Nrpg. My bad typo.
Mission: Auld Lang Syne
Day:01
Stardate: 2445.12.28
(Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Conference Center- CO, Captain Trip Williams and
FO, Ailynn Bracken- 19:00)
“Well that was a bore.” Trip said to Ailynn as they left the conference
room. “Honestly, the guy is comparing ancient empires from different
Federation worlds, but the way he spoke about the Persians and the Romans,
I don’t think that Zakdorn archaeologist has ever set foot on earth. Did he
seriously say the Roman’s favorite dish pasta amatriciana? Tomatoes were
not native to Europe, they were imported from the Americas What’s next,
the ancient Celts ate french fried potatoes daily, even though potatoes are
from Peru. At least the Bolian and Rigelian archaeologists seemed to be
more grounded. I’m surprised you didn’t put the Zakdorn in his place.”
Ailynn was fuming.
“Absolute incompetant. Conclusions drawn self referencing his own work. The
temple at Salaxia couldn’t have been 25th dynasty; because the 24th dynasty
development was built on top of it!”
"No shit."
“As well as that his translations of the cartouches ignore the fact that
the words for acolyte were unilaterally male. So female acolytes at that
period are completely impossible.”
"What if this whole conference was one big practical joke. Like so bad to
piss us off."
Ailynn stopped in her stride. “I would actually have to salute the person
who is so committed to that.” She smiled.
Trip looked around as he saw Ravok sit at a table with his cousin Jimmy.
"And another one bites the dust."
Ailynn followed his gaze. “Really?”
"Lexington needs an FO. Jimmy is gonna offer it to Ravok."
“I see that. He’s a good officer, held back slightly by Kiera and I being
above him.”
"Had he stayed on Mars, he might be FSCO right now. But he followed me.
He's a good choice. Especially because I blocked Keira from going. Can't
lose the best engineer in the fleet."
“No, we can’t.” She agreed.
"Plus I'm taking a gamble."
“Oh?”
"Please don't be mad."
“I won’t be, honestly.”
"I'm betting on you saying no."
Ailynn nodded. “I respect your honesty; thank you.” She answered.
"You'd make an excellent captain and I don't want to hold you back. So you
should say yes...but…"
Ailynn turned to him, glad he was able to speak his mind. "...but?"
"I'm not ready for you to go."
She smiled. "And I'm not ready to go. There's a bunch of reasons why it
would be stupid to pass up, and nearly the same amount to turn it down."
"Yeah. What did Caity say?"
"That she and I are a team, and she'd follow my lead?"
"Is following your lead a question?"
She shook her head. "No, though I appreciate it sounded like one."
"One nice thing about dating Civilians, if you don't Work out, easier to
transfer." Trip said with a wink and a laugh.
She smiled. "I hope it does, but there's so much I need to sort out with
her."
"Such as?"
She raised her eyes and looked to her old friend. "She lost a sister, to
the same things that…"
"You don't need to finish that statement. I know."
"I haven’t told her my past yet."
"Dammit Lynn. The longer you wait, the harder it will be."
"I know. The time I was going to She opened up about Sara. Now I have this
decision over me, and I have to tell her about everything this evening."
"I umm… want me to tell her for you?"
Ailynn laughed. "I love that you offered, but I think that it may look
badly coming from you. It'll be fine." She smiled at him.
"Well what if we fake a transporter accident . A body swap. And i pretend
I'm you."
"That sounds...like the plot of a terrible, yet watchable film."
"Says the person whose mother is dating a guy who is a walking transporter
accident. Whose mind is a transporter duplicate trapped in somebody else's
body." Trip laughed. "Its like our world is being written by a bunch of
people with overactive imaginations." Trip then turned to the fourth wall
and winked.
Ailynn shuddered. "That being the case my writer seriously needs their head
examined."
"Fortunately for us. Or unfortunately. We're not being written by anyone.
So stop dilly dallying and tell Caity or I'll introduce Caity to your mom.
Lord knows aimee will spill the beans in 30 minutes."
"I'm keeping Caity away from the Bracken coven for as long as possible. I'm
not worried about them liking her, quite the opposite,.I actually think
they'd prefer her." She giggled.
"I doubt that. My guess is your mom will tell you about some doctor she
knows that'd be a better fit." Trip laughed. "But maybe she'll surprise me.
Rumor has it she's a lot more mellow since she…." Trip then winked at
Ailynn.
"I beg you don't finish that sentence. My near 60 year old mother should
not be ge…" she stopped. "Im not saying another word."
"So. Same topic kind of, different subjects. How do I tell Ash the employee
she's mentoring, who has come over to eat with us two or three times, may
or may not be wanting a piece of me. I felt the emotions related to lust.
But frankly I've been feeling that everywhere I go on this planet."
Ailynn smiled, keeping her thoughts in check this time."Yeah...I can kind
of see why. As to your problem...Ash knows, loves and trusts you. Just tell
her. She's no empath but she may as well be where you're concerned, she'll
smell the unease on you anyway."
Trip sniffed his armpits. "I don't smell that bad."
"You're an oaf. You know what I mean. Who was it? Where they drunk?"
"Addison. Yes but.. "
"But?"
"I've been picking up vibes for a week now"
"Addison Queen? Possibly not very drunk, she has a liver function mutation,
produces an extra protein."
"I dunno. Its all...I mean….is it wrong that I was tempted. For a nano
second of course. But i was tempted."
"Of course it's normal. I've seen a few girls, received a few glances, and
yeah, the atmosphere is oppressively romantic. You didn't act on it. Just
speak to Ash, you've known her long enough."
"Would you say then I should rip the bandaid. Honesty is the best policy.
Dont drag it out?"
"Men! You're overthinking. Just tell her what happened. If Addison tells
her first then it's worse even if untrue."
"I see…" he paused. "Then you better make sure you take your own advice and
don't chicken out."
"You arse." She said smiling gently.
"I might have set you up for that."
"Fair point though; and you're right. Tonight after dinner."
"You better."
"I have a table at the cappacio at 8. I'll let you know what the food is
like."
"I on the other hand am not sure how tonight will go. But thats part of
life right?"
"Hey...me either, but yes, yes it is." She smiled half-heartedly, then
turned away and left the conference centre, her stride easy, but purposeful.
