Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express
Day:03
Stardate: 2445.12.03
(USS Exeter – Deck 3- Merek /Shara shared quarters – 2O/CEO Lieutenant
Commander Keira Merek &
CTO/3O Lieutenant Sg Ravok – 0227)
Ravok wasted no time hurrying back to their quarters. Rayna was sound
asleep. He jumped in the shower opting to use the water option and not the
sonic shower.
He finished in the shower and got out and dried off. He looked at himself
in the mirror, leaning over the sink. He felt nauseous. He snapped himself
out of it when her heard Keira enter the quarters
Keira heard movement in the lavatory after she entered their quarters. The
cadence of the movement let her know it was Ravok.
He walked out the bathroom and flopped on the bed with the towel still
wrapped around his waist. He didn't care about modesty at the moment. He
was just thankful to be in his bed.
To her he seemed a little, not quite himself. Based off of a glance earlier
at a casualty list, he likely was devastated with the passing of his
cousin. She couldn't deny, in the brief time she knew her even Keira felt a
distinct loss. The woman had a bright future, snuffed out by a mad woman.
She was so intelligent and kind, and Rayna idolized her.
~ Oh, Freya, Rayna, how are we going to tell her?~
She approached him, laying there on their shared bed. She was unsure of
what to say or, how exactly to say it.
He looked down at the foot of the bed, looking at Keira and smiled. He was
happy to see her. His mind was in a million places but knowing she was home
now made him feel better.
"You made it back to me Lathuel," she said quietly, but still full of
relief. "Rough day?"
Ravok sighed. " Yeah you could say that. Erin was down , Nesha is dead.
Ensign More collapsed. She's gone. "
"Yeah, I heard." Her face turned to a frown. "Are you?….how are you?…. I'm
so sorry for your loss."
" I don't know to be honest. I've lost so many people that I cared for. I
guess I just feel the need to care for the ones left even more. It's hard
to explain. I'll mourn their losses in my way." He responded
Feeling a panging need to comfort him she kicked her uniform boots off,
removed her singed jacket and climbed into bed with him. ~ Please don't
shave your head and don the tattoos of mourning…~
" The past 24 hours have been absolutely insane. I know we lost only a
handful but it may as well have been dozens..hundreds. " Ravok remarked his
voice almost cracking.
She settled in laying beside him, her head in the crook of his shoulder
and her hand on his bare chest. "If it makes you feel any better, I
planned on decking her real hard when you brought her out in binders." She
said trying to lighten the somber mood.
Ravok laughed slightly. " Well it seems like Ire handled business in there
and got to her first.
"Really? Ire?" Keira said, astonished, "What happened in there?"
Ravok shook his head. " I don't know. A full report hasn't been done yet.
At this point I can only speculate from what I saw."
“I’d certainly like to read the reports when they come through.” Keira
admitted.
" I'm sure you'll be briefed commander." Ravok stayed with a laugh.
“I was about to pour myself something to drink, when you came in. Would
you like something too?” Keira asked.
" I should say no, but I definitely need one right about now. " He said as
he motioned for her to get up. Keira grinned, the ability to have a very
duty driven man do things that he knows he shouldn't, made her feel
powerful in a risqué way.
"What'll you have, then?" She asked after she rolled off the bed and
plopped up to her feet.
" I'll have what you're having." Ravok answered as he went to the dresser
to get some sleepwear to throw on real quick.
"Well, I had an appointment with a finger of Aldebaran Whiskey, before this
whole mess started." She said now already at the replicator. " Aldebaran
Whiskey," she ordered and then elaborated, "two separate single servings."
She rounded the dining table going clockwise instead of just returning the
same way she came, carrying two tumblers of pale green cloudy liquid. She
handed one to him.
He took it from her and drank it without hesitation.
She swirled the liquid in her glass before taking a sip. "How are we going
to tell Rayna about her Auntie Nesha?"
Ravok looked at his glass. " Her own mother abandoned her. I came into the
picture and her aunt left her life. She's had to deal with so much change.
They say it's better to deal with drastic changes early on, but I see how
she looks at the...world around her. She takes in every detail. She may not
be able to put it into words or even know what words to use, but she
understands things." Ravok took another drink.
" I am going to tell her the truth. I don't lie to people, you know this so
why start with her? No , I am going to tell her the truth. Nesha is dead
because there are bad people who do bad things. Hopefully she uses her
ability to understand things to decide to be a good person who can grow up
to stop bad people from doing those bad things."
"Oh, I didn't mean telling any lies," Keira said, shaking her head. "I was
referring more to timing and word selection, but it seems you have that
more under control than I would."
" I know this sounds strange, but I have this feeling in the pit of my
stomach that this entire thing isn't over." Ravok said.
"How so?" Keira asked out of curiosity.
He took another drink.
" When the transport sequence finalized I heard a voice in the holodeck. I
shrugged it off as my only objective was to go in and see if people were
ok. The voice said something about being just a footnote in history. Call
it being exhausted, paranoid or even call it being a romulan ,but I feel
like there is a storm coming. One that we are nowhere near prepared for.
The attack on earth 2 years ago, the attacks that lead to our battles in
the fighter wing. Tyko Nix was murdered for his knowledge of the mind
swapping technology and for all of that to end with a death game on the
holodeck. It's too messy, too convenient. " He said standing up quickly and
consumed the rest of his drink.
"I see what you're saying," she said finishing her own drink. "She had Tyko
killed for knowing too much, the game was just her taking the time to
gloat."
He walked over to the dresser and turned away from her. " We aren't ready"
he turned back and looked at her. " I'm not ready."
"Do you think what you are talking about is what Mom said was coming? Do
you think they could be the same thing or related in some way?" She said
and collected the glasses to recycle.
Ravok shook his head.
" I don't know maybe. " He laughed, feeling somewhat embarrassed for
sounding like an idiot.
" Maybe I'm just tired. I've been looking for answers all day ,perhaps my
mind just needs to shutdown and relax."
Keira punched commands into the replicator that disassembled the two
glasses atom by atom in the blink of an eye converting them to energy and
reabsorbed into the ship's power grid.
"Rest would do us both some good," she admitted.
" Yeah, your right."
Keira picked her jacket off the floor before Ravok said anything about it
and removed the pips, communicator and the two long stiletto-like throwing
knives she kept hidden in the seams, placing them all on her night stand.
She threw the now bare jacket in the recycling hamper.
"You don't have to wait up," she told him. "I think I'll hop in the sonic
shower to knock the yuck off me. It would take too long for my hair to dry
and I don't want to go to bed with wet hair."
Ravok sat back down on the bed.
" I don't think I'll get much sleep, but I'll try."
As Keira walked to the shower Ravok looked out the window. The ambient
noise of the ship around them was relaxing, but it couldn't ease his mind.
