Stan was visiting Erin. He also discovered that she would be his department head. Providing the Captain allowed his transfer to Science.

Erin smiled,  "Sounds amazing. Myself, I'm more xeno linguistics and anthropology. Say, you're a botanist, you can help me with something. Call it a job interview so to speak." She replied.

“ Go ahead lassie I am all ears,” He said 

"I've been trying to grow a flower from my home."

“  Not all plants are easy to grow from cuttings on a starship. The artificial gravity puts quite a strain on the cell structure.” Stan said

"Lapageria. Commonly known as the Chilean Bell flower. No matter what I do, can't seem to get it to grow, let alone flower. We used to have them on the farm outside Santiago. Really miss the aroma."

Stan closed his eyes as his photographic memory kicked in.

“ Lapageria rosea also known as the national flower of Chile. Reportedly name after the sweetheart of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte Josephine. It’s really a climbing plant. That might be the problem.” Stan said

"If you could grow me some, I would be forever grateful. "

“ It’s not really a pot plant. But it may do better in the arboretum. Leave it with me lassie......hey isn’t that Dr Vesper....” Stan said
