Mission: The Murder on the Exeter express
Day: 03
Stardate 2445:12:03

(USS Exeter - Deck seven - Counselors suite - COO LTjg Paul Sleeford 14:13)

"Well the good news is that Lt. Cortez is making a full recovery." Jack
said with a smile.

Sleeford let out a sigh, that was the first piece of good he'd had since
yesterday, "That's good to hear"

"So you carry around this knife. Do you think it is a habit or more of a
crutch or a security blanket?"

Laughing Sleeford smiled, "Habit pure and simple, it was something drummed
into during training, 'Never be without a means to fight back' I can still
see the instructor, an old Klingon warrior, snarling with disgust that none
of us had a blade on us at the start of boot camp. Mind you in retrospect I
think it may have been because he was an old Klingon Warrior, may I ask
why?"
|
"Because sometimes, there are certain things we carry around as habit,
something that felt so normal. Other times, those these can be a crutch or
a tether. Something holding us back from moving forward. What do you think
the knife serves as?"

"At the present, its a bulky item under my shirt, it the past it's been a
means to make kindling for a fire, remove bones from game and fish. Most of
the time it reminds me of old comrades gone on to other things. I'll be
honest it serves no real purpose, it's just there. I wonder sometimes why I
carry it, I suppose like my cane its a useful item to have if I need it"

Placing the glass on the table Sleeford looked across the desk, "If
there's nothing else? I'm sure there's far more interesting cases then me."
