(USS Exeter – Ready Room– Ensign Janice Hammerfield – 0901)

"Thanks for meeting with me Janice." Trip said as he motioned for Hammerfield to sit down.

“Of course,” she said moving over to the seat and sitting down. She hadn’t really got as mush sleep as she wanted the previous night and the bags under her eyes were surely giving it away.

"Listen, before I get any further, I have set an appointment with you to meet with Counselor Jack Roberts at 1100 hours. Just to get a sense for how you are doing and your mental state. As I'm the one requesting it, I will have access to his evaluation, but other than myself and the counselor, it will be private and privileged. I also want you to set an appointment with Commander Bracken to give a statement. Is that alright?"

"That seems like a reasonable step sir,” she replied nodding, “Ive been through the process. Ill get somethings ready for it,”

"Anyways, with the business out of the way, let me get to the point of this meeting. Simply put Janice, I just want to know how you're doing, how you're feeling, and how you're holding up."

She let out a sigh, “Me – I’m sure if I said I was fine you would say I was lying. Honestly I’m exhausted.”

“I don’t know... maybe an hour – two? I wasn’t really watching the clock,” she held her hand up to her mouth masking a small yawn, “It’ll be ok ill see the meeting and catch up after it.”

“How is everyone else doing? I mean im not numb to what happened but they knew them a lot better than I did?” she enquired looking him in the eye. The question was mostly a deflection of the topic away from herself but she was sincere in asking about her colleagues as well.
