Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express
Day: 3
Stardate: 2445.12.03
(USS Exeter – Deck 9, In front of Holodeck 3– FO Cmdr Ailynn Bracken – 0032)
"Ok so Arbor, Ravok and Dr. Kruze are going to go in, Commander Bracken,
you and Lt. Smith Guard the door. Nurse Drake, will stay on standby just in
case. That alright with you Commander?"
Ailynn’s full attention was immediately turned toward Trip, a thousand
words immediately ran through her mind. She opened her mouth to object, but
Trip was already speaking To Lieutenant Corsica. She let the conversation
between the two of them run it’s course. Trip then continued.
"And before you gear up Lt. Ravok, I'll be leading the rescue team, not
you. My people are in danger, and dammit, I'm gonna get them out,"
“Captain, I must object.” Ailynn looked toward her old friend, now
superior. She remembered an old argument that she’d had at the Academy with
some of her classmates. ~True loyalty,~ she had thought, ~was knowing when
to object to a superior on an action that one felt was incorrect, not a
blind following of their orders.~
(Reply Trip)
“Captain, I must object to your being a member of the away team, I
appreciate its your prerogative, however standing regulation says that it
be me. Your responsibility is to the 490-odd souls of the ship that remain
out here, not the 7 in that room Sir.” Her tone was gentle, but firm, she’d
drawn herself to a stance that was less slouchy than she’d been.
(Reply Trip)
She smiled gently. “Besides, if you think I’m going to let you hightail it
into there, get your arse killed, then leave me to explain to Ash what's
happened, and moreover, look my as yet unborn cousin in the eye why they
don’t have a father, then, respectfully, you need to think again. Sir.” She
was all too aware of the other officers around them, some more junior, but
hopefully they’d learn a lesson about the interplay between high ranking
Command staff, especially the relationship between First Officer, and
Commanding Officer.
