Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express

(USS Exeter – Science Labs – Ensign Janice Hammerfield – 2227)

" Good Evening Ensign Hammerfield " Ravok said as he made his way near her.


"Good evening,” she let out a small yawn as her eyes followed him across the room, “Can I help you?” Holding her tricorder she moved around the side of the table to work on her device and put a bit of distance between them. She knew that maybe someone might be coming to stop her and didn’t fancy being in arms reach.


" I was just coming to check on you and…"


Janice followed his eyes briefly, “A bit tired but nothing a big mug of tea wont sort... and?”


" I bet you would feel better with your rifle?" Ravok asked smiling as he crossed his arms and leaned back against a countertop.


She smiled a bit out of the corner of her mouth at Ravok and took the opportunity to make sure he kept his distance, “I assure you my hands are equally as deadly at a range of five feet - rifle or not. Besides a rifle of that size wouldn’t really be suitable in here. Far too bulky to manoeuvre.”


" Ensign T'Kel mentioned an engineer checked in a modified phaser rifle. To be honest sounds like something another engineer I know would do " He said laughing.



Janice’s vision didn’t leave Ravok for a moment, “That would be right. That’s my girl,”


" What modifications did you make ?" He put his hand up " Now this isn't an investigation.  I'm just asking out of curiosity. "



“You’ll find that they are mostly to help with technical tasks,” she continued, “A rotational lens system helps mode selection between standard fire, flare, welding, cutting and heating. You’d be surprised how often I’ve had to use them. Nothing that’s going to blow a hole in the side of the ship if that’s what you’re worried about.” Janice lifted up her tea and took a small sip from it. Asking questions about her personal weapon and saying its not part of an investigation when a killer is onboard – she wasn’t buying that the inquiry was benign as Ravok made out it was. She would likely be doing something similar if she was still in security.

“Id be happy to let you take a shot or two with it when we have the murder apprehended,” she added.
