Mission: A new day dawns

Day: 2

Stardate: 2446.01.29

(Earth- Home of Trip and Ashlyn Williams -side patio – SOPS/3O Lieutenant
Commander Tyrek Na'Re & CFO Lieutenant Ire Williams -2150)

Tyrek stepped outside and laid his communication device on a ledge and
quickly opened a communication to New Romulus.

A holographic image of a woman in robes appeared. It was his aunt Nakira,
his mother's half sister.

" I don't have time for formalities and I'm limited by what I say to you. "

=/\= I can sense the urgency in your voice. Is everything alright?=/\= The
woman responded.

Tyrek took a deep breath and explained as much as he could about the
situation in a way that didn't compromise Federation security. As he
concluded his explanation he patiently waited for a response.

The Romulan woman on the other end of the communication stared at him and
raised her eyebrow.

=/\= And this Commander Merek will welcome our help? =/\=

Tyrek shrugged his shoulders.

" I will have her contact you and state her case. It fits your criteria for
a lost cause, does it not?"

Nakira nodded her head one time.

=/\= Yes but it is her lost cause. She must present it to us herself. If
she does not then the matter hasn't been spoken at all. Do you understand?
=/\=

" I understand aunt Nakira…Thank you " He replied with a smile.

=/\= It was good to see your face again. Even if it is a little hairier
than I have been accustomed to. Be well. =/\=

Tyrek smiled and ended the transmission. He grabbed his communication
device and placed it back in his pocket. He turned around to Lieutenant Ire
Williams standing behind him.

" Lieutenant Williams …" Tyrek nodded awkwardly.

" How long have you been standing there ?"

Ire paused as a voice broke through his thoughts. He had been looking out
over the land that belonged to Trip thinking about Ravok. He looked over at
Na'Rel as he was pulled out of his memory.

“Ow I am sorry Lieutenant Commander Na'Rel. I was lost in my thoughts. I
didn't mean to pry on your conversation. If you want me to leave I can.”

Tyrek sighed after a short pause.

" No it's alright Lieutenant. I do request however that you keep whatever
you heard to yourself."

Ire nodded. “I will keep what you said to myself as long as it does not
compromise fleet security but honestly I didn’t actually hear any of it.”

" And risk an interstellar incident ? Not to worry Lieutenant, I don't
have any intention of breaking trust with Starfleet or the Federation. Not
to mention it would likely lead to my execution by my government." Tyrek
laughed slightly.

“There has been enough talk about tonight for that to happen.”

" Commander Merek and the others seem to be shaken by the news of their
friend. For that they have my sympathies. I just don't want anyone
jeopardizing their career or personal safety because of it." Tyrek
explained.

Ire nodded. “Yes emotions are running high. Ravok was close to a lot of
people on board including me but especially Keira who they were together
and had a child with-.”

" I wasn't aware that there was a child involved. That certainly worsens
things. For what it's worth, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, and the
circumstances from which it happened. " Tyrek said with a heavy heart.

Ire gave a sad smile and nodded. “Thank you. That is appreciated. He may
have….passed away in bad circumstances but he had been by my side since we
graduated from the academy and I classed him as one of my closest friends.”

Tyrek shook his head.

" I understand, I recently lost someone close to me as well and the truth
is it won't get any easier. The pain will always be there. We just have to
find our own way of managing the pain. Everywhere I looked on my last ship,
I saw her. She was the Chief Engineer, so every system, bulkhead, door,
turbolift...even the walls had her touch upon them. " He smirked.

" I couldn't escape her, no matter how hard I tried. I thought joining the
Exchange Program would get me away from the memory of her, but here I am
and I can't help but think about what she would have thought about dinner
or her opinion on the night sky above this Texas ranch. I guess I still
have to learn that she is still with me and so is the pain of losing her."
Tyrek explained, dropping all personal restrictions at that moment.

Ire gave him an understanding nod.

“I have learnt from painful experience that the loss of people you love and
hold dear is hard. Over time the pain will ease and the bad memories will
fade over time so that only the good happy ones remain. This does not mean
that the pain is gone or will ever truly leave you but it will get better
when you think of her.”

Tyrek smiled.

" Well I certainly hope it gets better, and I hope things get better for
you as well. " He wanted to shift the conversation to a more upbeat topic.

Ire smiled back.

“Yes I hope things will get better for both of us.”

" Do you play billiards Lieutenant?" Tyrek asked

Ire paused. “Billiards? Um no I have not played that.”

" I believe some terrans refer to it as a pool. It's surprisingly a rather
popular leisure activity on New Romulus. I have found that it brings
clarity and focus to the mind. I noticed that Captain Williams has a table
in his house. "

“You played it on New Romulus?”

" Yes, we play Terran games. We know more about Terran culture than many
people are aware of. For centuries Terrans were our adversaries and it's
wise to learn about your enemies. So about 150 years ago Romulan agents
gathered information on Terran leisure and social bonding activities. We
are also fond of the card game blackjack. " Tyrek explained.

“Blackjack”

Ire smiled.

“I am not good at blackjack but I will give you a game of billiards. If
it's like pool then it's just about angles. If I can do astro navigation
calculations I should be able to play some billiards.”

" Blackjack is a game of strategy and risk. Pool however is a game of
kinetics and trajectories, I promise to not judge your abilities." Tyrek
said with a smile and hesitated his hand towards the house.

“Okay then. I will take you up on your challenge as long as you don’t wipe
the floor with me too badly.” As he headed back towards the house.

" I wouldn't dare , you'd make an awful mop." Tyrek joked as the two walked
in the house together.
