Victoria Corsica - 1915)
As 1900 came and went, Trip waited about fifteen minutes to give Janice
enough time to arrive. She was the only invited who hadn’t arrived, but he
figured there was a good reason. Janice was a good officer, but seemed to
be a tad introverted. Still, the Operations department was represented with
Ensign Fuller. Trip had a lot of hope for the young officer. He showed a
lot of promise. Plus, even before inversion, the ACOO, Ensign Zot kinda
creeped him out.
He was excited to see his house full of life. The land was deeded to him by
his parents as a wedding present, and the house and building were built
while the Exeter was on her first few missions. This was Trip’s first
chance to really see and enjoy it. It was much bigger than his house on
Mars, but they were two different types of houses. One more set for urban
living (Mars) and one that would be more for a retreat from the stress of
life. This gathering was as much a christening of the house as it was meant
to be a stress reliever for the staff. At the end of the day he was still
young, and still wanted to let loose and have fun.
Looking at the dining room, but knowing that he still needed a bit more
time with the smoker, he rang the bell to gather everyone into the dining
room and at least welcome them and give them a bit of free reign for a
while. He rang a bell that permeated throughout the house and the yard,
hoping that people would get the hint and begin to gather in the dining
room.
Ailynn heard the bell and winced slightly as the sonorous tone rang down
her ear. Smiling happily though, she picked up her glass and stepped
through into the spacious dining room, the large table the centrepiece of
the room. The room oozed welcome, with hints of many celebrations and
dinners with family and friends to come. She moved around and sat about
halfway down, chatting amiably with those around her as they all found
places. The moment for her was bittersweet, as Ailynn knew that her time
with the crew was limited, and this may be the last time that she would see
many of the Senior staff, certainly in one room.
Alex followed the others through, genuinely impressed at the house, finding
the rooms that they passed through welcoming, and warm. He found himself
relaxing as he picked up another beer on his way through the kitchen. After
bumping into Lieutenant Cortez yesterday, he sat and watched the other
Officers, listened to conversation, and traded greetings with a number of
others, introducing himself. He’d watched Commander Bracken with interest,
the playful smile evident on her face as she chatted and joked with others.
There was an obvious edge to her though, her outside may look fluffy and
playful, but underneath that he could see a core of steel and, her sheer
command presence was to say the least impressive. Not for the first time in
a few days he readjusted his view of Fleet brats. He’d met the Fleet
Surgeon General a time or two, and found her daughter perhaps even more
intense and obviously driven. The visual similarities between Ailynn and
Ashlyn, the Captain’s wife, were startling. There was no way that each of
them could disown the other that was for certain. Had this been formal he
would have waited for either the Captain, or his wife to enter and sit, but
given the relaxed nature, he took his seat, and watched the others around
the table.
Ire paused at the sound of the bell and watched as the people around him
began to move towards the dining room. He nodded to himself as he followed
the other through the house. The dining room was filling up with the other
guests and Ire spied a seat near the middle and headed toward those empty
seats.
After talking to the Captain and realising to his great embarrassment he
was overdressed, Matthew went and found the nearest out of sight replicator
and changed into a nice pair of jeans and light blue collared shirt, with
black laceless shoes. He grabbed a drink, something light to start with,
and looked around to see who he could talk to. He heard the dinner bell and
after a moment realised what it was for. Approaching the table he saw a lot
of senior officers either already sitting or preparing to be seated.
Swallowing nervously but also remembering the Captain’s words about
relaxing and having fun., he walked forward, nodded in greeting to the
nearest person, nearly saluting in the process and took his seat.
When it was time to gather in the dining room inside the house, Jori
followed the others, making sure to brush off her clothes of any dust, and
wiping her cowgirl boots on the welcome mat. As gorgeous as the house was
from the outside, the interior was even more beautiful. She felt out of
place in something so lavish. Before sitting in one of the empty chairs,
she took off her cowgirl hat and set it, and her gift bag, on a small table
along the wall.
After hearing an unsightly loud bell, Keira made her way into a spacious
dining room with what looked like more than enough room for the Captain's
own nuclear family, but just barely enough for the thirteen place settings
at the table. It reminded her of the harvest celebrations they'd have every
year back on Carraya IV. She finished her beer in one swig and placed it in
the bin to be recycled. She picked a place at the far end of the table from
where she entered. Before she sat down she tipped the wine glass paired to
her place setting right side up and poured a healthy serving of wine.
Hearing the bell, Erin smiled and walked into the dining room. Nodding her
hello to everyone, she took a seat at the table and poured a glass of
orange juice. Leaning back in her chair slightly, she took the chance to
glance around the room at everyone assembled. The crew of the exeter. It
had changed a little since they had launched. But this crew was one of the
best in the fleet and, as she looked around at everyone, a wide smile grew
on her face that they had made it this far.
As Heinrich wandered the Williams’ Retreat he remembered an old saying back
on Alpha 5: “Everything is bigger in Texas.” The ceilings were far higher
than anything he knew back home. The rooms were spacious, and despite being
there with the whole staff Heinrich didn’t feel crowded at all. He had
picked up a beer from the kitchen and was absent-mindedly marvelling the
oak interior. The home gave him a sense of deja vu, as if he had once
dreamt of it. In the dream, he recalled, the hallways would never end. So
it seemed. He was admiring a portrait when he heard the bell. Luckily for
him he was not so far from everyone else that he didn’t see others make
their way to the dining room. He followed and made his way to a seat.
Tyrek noticed others were moving towards the sound of the bell. He was
unsure of its intended purpose , but chose to follow others who had taken
notice and began their advance towards the dining room. Upon entering the
large dining room , Tyrek looked at the table before him, seeing that
others were promptly taking their seats. This put Tyrek in an awkward
situation. The proper etiquette that he was accustomed to would have him
standing in wait for the host to sit. No one wanted to be the first one to
sit at a Romulan dinner party. He approached the table and stood behind an
empty chair located to the left of the man he recognized from the crew
manifest as Lieutenant Ire Williams the chief flight officer. Tyrek stood
straight with his hands clasped together in front of him , a habit that is
second nature to many Romulans to show that they have no ill intentions and
all can see their hands. Tyrek stood and waited for the others to arrive.
Although he couldn't help but notice that the Chief Engineer had already
taken her seat and already filled her glass. He was not surprised...
Jack entered the dining room, taking note of where everyone was seated. He
found seating choices interesting. Where people sat often signaled who they
preferred to have a conversation with, or who they wanted to cozy up to.
Out of curiosity and a desire to watch people, he stood in the corner,
waiting to see where everyone decided to sit before taking a seat.
The bell ringing was loud enough to begin with but the noise was nearly
painful to Victoria’s catian ears. She followed as everyone who was
gathered made their way into the large dining room. Taking a seat at the
large table that dominated the room, she watched as people quickly took the
seats to her left and right and waited patiently for the festivities to
begin.
