Keira's forte was not long range combat, but she was a fairly decent
marksman. She thought it curious when Fleet Command invited her to test out
new prototype phasers, but accepted the invitation anyway. She needed an
excuse to exit her self-induced seclusion. She began by looking at the
display pieces they had near the entrance. Interactive holographic models
were displayed so that technicians could explain, demonstrate and answer
questions. She had just begun her conversation with one of the technicians
and some ruckus could be heard from the attached obstacle course. People
were cheering for someone's accomplishment, but Keira was trying to
concentrate.

She didn't notice as one of the officers backed right into her.

"Oh, sorry sir, wasn't looking." the man said. He was wearing a
ridiculous looking hat, reminiscent of the "Ancient West" of Earth, and two
prototype phasers one on each hip.

"No, you weren't." Keira snapped back. She had to hold back the reflex to
strike him. Her fingers were curled ready for a palm strike.

"I'm sorry. I've just been on edge lately, shouldn't have snapped at you.
Commander Merek, Exeter, and you are, Lieutenant?" She said, offering her
hand out to shake in a customary Terran greeting.
