(USS Exeter - Ready Room – COO Lieutenant Janice Hammerfield – 1201)

"Good to see you Janice," Trip said as Hammerfield entered his ready room.

"Sir – you wanted to see me?” She said entering the room having just straightened her uniform outside.

"I don't know if you heard, but Lt. Sleeford has asked and been given a transfer. Which means the Exeter needs a new Chief Operations Officer."

"I’d heard the rumours about that – but its not something I really pay close attention to,” she nodded.

"So, as of right now, you're the Exeter's new COO. I know you aren't keen on promotions, but you are the best for the job."

"Understood – thank you sir,” she replied thankful he remembered her aversion, “Ill try do it as best I can. Was there anything else?”

"Have you had a chance to visit with Ensign Jefferson's family."

She looked down to the side a little then back up, “Understandably they didn’t exactly want to see me. They understand how and why, but im still part of the reason hes not with them,”

“Somethings like that you can’t fix, but I at least feel like i’ve done the right thing trying to explain to them,” one side of her lip curled up a bit emphasising how there wasn’t anything else she could reasonable do, “and they accepted my letter – small steps.”

“Of course – right away,” she smiled back and made her way to Operations now. She was starting to feel like a bit of a jack of all trades recently.
