Mission: A new day dawns
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.01.28
(USS Exeter - outside Ready Room - Lieutenant Commander Tyrek Na'Rel -1658)
The moment Tyrek had been anxiously awaiting had finally arrived. He was
about to meet the starfleet captain that he would be serving under. Going
over the crew manifest of the Exeter the day before , he had tried to
familiarize himself with the crew as much as possible. But he was no fool,
Tyrek knew that people were always more than their record, sometimes even
less.
After being escorted through the ship and to the captain's ready room.
He turned to his Vulcan security escort, EnsignT’Kel.
" Thank you for your insistence on escorting me through your beautiful
ship."
T'Kel said nothing and stood in harsh silence , almost scowling at the
Romulan officer before him.
Tyrek noticed the look of discontent on his face.
" Well for what it's worth , I've enjoyed our time together. You have
certainly reinforced the Vulcan stereotype….but you really should smile
from time to time."
T'Kel took his leave without saying a single word.
Tyrek smiled then turned and stood outside the door to the office, running
his hands along his new starfleet uniform to brush out the wrinkles. He
adjusted his rank bar and pulled on the red collar. Compared to his Romulan
uniform , the one worn by Starfleet felt like he was wearing practically
nothing. He straightened his posture and firmly gripped a rectangular
wooden case under his arm with a Padd as well.

He pressed the button located next to the door to announce his arrival.
"Come in," Trip said, welcoming his next appointment.
Tyrek entered the room and stood at attention. "Shaoi kon" Tyrek said, the
formal Rihan greeting from an inferior to a superior.
"So you are our exchange officer, correct, Tyrek Na'Rel?"
His next words were rehearsed in front of the mirror plenty of times.
"Lieutenant Commander Tyrek Na'Rel , former Sub-Commander in the Romulan
Republic fourth fleet. Proudly reporting for duty as ordered Sir." He said
, standing as tall as he could.
"I'm glad you are here, and I'm glad the Federation has a positive
relationship with some of the Romulans. I know you are part of the group
that is pro unification and considering applying for Federation membership."
Tyrek nodded in agreement.
" Yes that is correct Sir." He responded.
He wouldn't have necessarily called his government a group to him; it
seemed a bit of an extreme understatement but ,Tyrek understood that to an
outsider the Romulan territories could be viewed as pockets of different
political factions vying for the right to be the worthy successor to the
Romulan Star Empire.
"I hope you haven't gotten stares, our last full blooded Romulan, the first
Romulan in Starfleet, left me for dead." The Captain said.
Tyrek was delighted to hear the sincerity in the young captain's voice.
" Only a few Sir, but it is to be expected, Sir. "
Tyrek replied with a gentle smile. Thinking of the look the Vulcan Ensign
had given him.

Tyrek stepped to the Captain’s desk, handing him the PADD containing his
transfer documentation and Personnel profile and laid the rectangular
wooden case on the captain's desk, turning it so the captain could open it.
( reply Trip)
" It Is customary for Romulan officers to give their service dagger to
their commanding officer to hold in trust between the two parties that the
subordinate shall not betray their commanding officer, if you have my blade
I can not stab you in the back. That is the closest way to explain it….Oh
and don't worry Sir, security has checked and cleared all my belongings
with a fine eye and undying diligence. " Tyrek said, stepping back and
resting his hands at his sides.
