(USS Exeter – Sickbay - ACFO, Ensign SG Ronnie Winters - 23:59)
Ronnie sat silently in a chair next to Ailynn's bed in sickbay. She had
been there for a few hours, keeping her company. Just one in a long line of
folks who had taken shifts sitting next to her, though Ashlyn had spent the
longest time next to her niece. Ronnie was deep asleep in her chair. While
it was an uncomfortable place to sleep, Ronnie had an uncanny ability, not
unlike a cat, to find a way to be comfortable anywhere.
She was worried about her cousin, especially because a lot of her knowledge
of the future was now useless, as it was clear that the timeline had
shifted sufficiently that she was either in a new timeline or a new
universe. Whether Ailynn made it or not she did not know. What she did know
was that Ailynn was her closest friend, her cousin, even though Ronnie was
from an alternate future, genetically the two were still cousins. Ailynn
was also the only one who knew Ronnie's secret, other than their
grandmother. Ailynn was Ronnie's confidant and she desperately wanted her
to pull through.
In a bit of a jolt, Ronnie was awoken from her dream as she fell out of the
chair and crashed to the ground. She had just had a nightmare in which she
was eaten by a giant deformed Duck and it startled her awake. Picking
herself up of the ground, she walked over to Ailynn and kissed her on the
forehead, then brushed some loose hair out of her face. It was at that
moment, as she looked down at her cousin with care and concern, that
Ailynn's eyes opened.
"Ailynn, hun, you awake?" Ronnie said with an excited but hushed whisper.
