(USS Exeter – Sickbay - CO, Lt. Commander Trip Williams - 22:00)
Trip had been sitting next to Ailynn for the last hour. He had been
reading to her from one of Ash's books. A small novella for 12 year olds.
The Brighton Sisters and the Great Diamond Caper. It was recently published
and was written as a way for Ashlyn to explore what might have been had
Ailynn's mother Aimee never been sent backwards in time, and if Ashlyn had
never been given up for adoption. It told the story of sister Amelia and
Ashley Brighton and their detective agency. Of course the neighbourhood boy
who was always causing trouble was a young precocious whipper snapper named
Trey who may or may not have been based on Trip.
Still he was certain that somehow Ailynn could hear him, that hearing the
story would comfort her. He felt powerless, but he knew it was just a
matter of time. Just a matter of waiting.
"As the two sisters entered into the secret room, just off the grand
ballroom of Brackington Manor, Ashley felt frightened. The room was dark
and damp, and she thought she could hear a rat squeaking in the corner.
'I'm so scared Amelia, do we really have to go into the room. I mean, mum
told us to hang tight.' Their mother, the great Dallas Brighton was the
most famous detective in Manchester. She was on the case, surely the
sisters didn't need to investigate. 'Don't worry Ashley.' Amelia replied
bravely as she reached out and grabbed Ashley's hand. I'm here by your
side. As long as we are together, you have no need to worry."
Trip took in a deep breath and placed the book down. He reached out and
grabbed Ailynn's hand, the left hand with the scar on the palm. The hand
that they clasped together years ago, cementing their relationship not just
as best friends, but as blood brother and sister, a solemn pact.
"I'm here Ailynn. Please, wake up soon. I need you. I can't do this without
you." A tear began forming under his left eye. "We are in sync, when it
comes to this. You get my command style, anticipate my movement, thoughts,
better than anyone. You are my best friend. And sure, Ash gets me more, of
course she does. It's because she's Ash. Buy you're my best friend, you're
my family, literally and figuratively. We've been training for this since I
was 8. You and me. Plus, your mom scares me, so you have to pull through."
Trip released her hand and looked at the clock on the wall. "It's getting
late. I'm gonna go and get some rest. But I'll check on you in the morning
okay Lynn." He said as he stood up and grabbed the book. "We have so much
to talk about. I'm having a son. We're gonna name him Drew. Sorry, Ailynn
just doesn't sound like a boy's name."
Trip then leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.
He then centered his mind. His telepath was improved, at least for the
moment and tried to see if he could send a message to Ailynn's mind.
::Don't stop fighting Lynnie the Pooh. Don't you stop fighting. You are my
nearest, dearest, and most beloved friend. I love you dearly. Don't stop
fighting. Drew is gonna need his cousin to help him learn all the things
Ash and I don't want to teach him. Don't stop fighting.::
Trip then left the room headed back to his quarters.
(reply none, Ailynn's dreams iyw)
