Mission: The Flames of Purity

Day: 16

Stardate: 2445.09.16

(Gamma Quadrant Planet – Shuttle Michaelangelo – SPC Comp Ops Ensign Sg
Zot – 1208)

Ensign Zot entered the shuttle and took his seat. His thoughts weighing
heavy on him. He had used a weapon and used it on another person to cause
harm. This was not the way of his people. His people had a stipulation to
their service in starfleet and it involved no direct use of weapons. Yet he
had just violated this stipulation.

Taking a seat next to him, she smiled softly and spoke, “Ensign, you did
really good down there.”

The Science officer speaking to him broke his thoughts. " Thank you
Lieutenant. pleases me that we all made it." Zot replied.

“I know that what happened couldn’t have been an easy position to be put
in.” She said.

He turned his head and looked at her.

" No it wasn't and it wont be for a long time. I have violated the
tradition of my people. A tradition that dates back 12,717,886 of our
recorded years. That's 24,618 years and 8 months in the measurement of time
you use." He said with a monotone voice.

“Look, what i know of your race is minimal. I know that I don’t like using
a phaser. I know what it feels like to be hit by one" The Lieutenant
paused. "….. I also know that the decision to use one is not one we take
lightly. The choice between saving your crew mate or your cultural ways…
It’s not an easy decision to make.”

He nodded his head one time." Are you saying I should ignore cultural
aspects of myself and billions of my kind for the preservation of one
fellow officer ? Because I am willing to do what I have to do to preserve
life, no matter the cost. But not at the cost of another life. Life, all
life is unique and precious." Zot said to her.

“What i am trying to say is that we have people here that can help you if
you are struggling with your choice. Personally, I find it easier to talk
to someone I can trust. A friend perhaps.”

He smirked slightly. " I have no friends. People tend to stay away from me.
Not out of fear, but I suspect it's out of them finding me odd. Which is
actually very fascinating to me because I find all of you very odd. Do you
have many friends Lieutenant Cortez, Erin Julia?" He asked.

“My two closest friends are down there at the other site. One trying to
save the other. I’m sat here wondering whether they are both okay or they
are both not. It hurts. But, this is what we chose to do. This is the life
we chose to lead. What we do with that is up to us.” She remarked.

" I hope that your friends are fine. If the traditional pair bonding of
friends your race exhibits comes to its fulfillment. Then I suspect your
friends have a bit of the courage and leadership you demonstrated on this
mission. Simply put if they are like you , I am sure they are fine. " Zot
said.

Smiling, Erin nodded, “The best thing is when you find someone willing to
walk this path with you. Me, not found that someone yet but i do believe
that there is someone out there for everyone.”

" walk the path with me ? The path of life, to enjoy time and comfort with
another sentient being and have them enjoy my presence as much as I enjoy
them? I can only hope I am as fortunate to find such a

' Someone' like that. Someone to share the deepest parts of my emotional
bonds with and have them do so in return. One day perhaps when I return to
my world." He responded.

“Don’t struggle in silence. Take it from one who did… trying to fight
battles yourself is going to break you.”

" Take it from you? You mean heed your advice , trust your insight? I will
Lieutenant Cortez Erin Julia" he said thankfully to her

Nodding in acknowledgment the Lieutenant left his side and took her seat.
