(Escape Pod Triskelion, Section Alpha – CSO – Dr. Fave Itel – 1147)
He heard the brief whine of the transporter and fear shot his carefully laid ambush to hell. He peered around the corner to look at his destruction before it came for him. Itel not being a man of tactical acumen had no trigger discipline and as he saw the man materialize, the hand holding the weapon squeezed in surprise, it was enough to fire the weapon. An orange beam lanced out missing the man but hitting the nearby bulkhead. Sparks issued from the console hitting him in the shoulder just as the man materialized.
Fave gasped in alarm and ran to the nearby hatch into Section Beta, the only real way to hide, but still with the cramped quarters too close to hide for long.
“I am Lieutenant Ire Williams of the Federation Starship Exeter. Come out where I can see you.” Itel thought the man had anger in his voice, but maybe that was just Fave projecting.
~No use running now, he will eventually get me.~
Itel slowly came out as the man fully came into view, the scientist realized he was still holding the weapon and he looked at the pistol and imagined Lieutenant Williams holding a phaser leveled at him.
“Aaah!” Itel vocalized and dropped his own weapon as if it were made of hot metal. He kept his hands in clear view.
~I’m surely dead.~
“Identify yourself?” Williams asked.
“Doctor Fave Itel, Chief Scientist of the.. former Prophet’s Truth.” He answered.
The man seemed off-balance, like he perhaps was struck in the head, but Itel knew he did no such thing to him.
“You seem wounded Lieutenant are you OK?” Itel took a step closer.
~Maybe I can help him and he’ll take pity on me?~
“Stop don`t come any closer or I`ll fire.”
Itel froze in place keeping his hands up and in view.
“You… you’re part Bajoran?” Itel said just now noticing the distinctive nose ridges.
“Chip him.” Williams said.
Itel heard a humming behind him.
~I wasn’t paying attention~
“I formally request asylum!” Itel blurted out, begging for mercy as the transporter took him.

“The only way to defeat fear is to tell it 'No'." No - we will not take shortcuts on the path to righteousness. No - we will not break the rules that protect us from our basest instincts. No - we will not allow desperation to destroy moral authority.” - Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery
“No, I’m from Iowa, I only work in outer space.” – Adm. James T. Kirk, “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”
