Mission: The Flames of Purity
Day: 16
Stardate: 2445.09.16

(Gamma Quadrant Planet – Power Supply Structure Exterior – 2O/CEO – Lieutenant Keira Merek – 1108)

The team had halted just outside of the perimeter of the place that was housing the power unit for the Dominion technology in the area. With Ravok’s impromptu reconnoiter by weapons fire they were now able to see the actual structure underneath. A structure that sensors of a Federation Runabout from the last century’s seventh decade had no hope of finding. This is how the Jem Hadar had managed to surprise a veteran of Wolf 359. Leveling several hundred meters of rock also had the added bonus that tricorders now penetrated it’s outer shell. She was getting readings now, from inside, even at this distance. She could hear members of her team speaking even over the soft hums of the tricorder scanning.

"One, looks like standard phaser rifle." She whispered to the rest.

“Maybe…” to Keira, it didn’t look right. “If you had an abundance of personnel and the enemy landed a ship less than one kilometer away, wouldn’t you send out a team? There’s been no response. Why are they just waiting for us to show up to the party?”

"We need to get in and pull the plug on that generator. Otherwise the other team is going to have a hard time getting Lieutenant Bracken. " The chief science officer said.

“Not disagreeing with you on any point.” She said to the Science Officer.

"Suggestions on how we do that?" She asked.

Zot tapped her frantically " That's a hologram. The guard is a decoy. "

“You’re sure?” Keira asked testing him. She had her own reasons in believing the guard wasn’t real, she wanted to hear his.

" Yes , I am sure. The guard is not breathing but otherwise mimicking the signs of a living being. Scan the area, this place is on high alert after The Leonardo fired its weapons. " Zot said.

“Also for someone who survived a low orbital bombardment from a Starfleet shuttle craft, he seems rather clean. Where’s the smut and dirt on his face from the explosion? The tears in his clothing? The disheveled hair?” Keira said agreeing with him.

Keira knelt down to avoid casting a silhouette and stayed behind some surviving foliage. “Can anyone disrupt the hologram with equipment we have on hand? I want to make sure that the rifle is a hologram as well,” she said knowing that either a real weapon in the hands of a hologram or a holographic weapon with out Starfleet safety protocols can kill. It was best not to take the chance.

(reply either, any)

Keira listened as they explained their plan. When they were finished, “Your theory is sound. Prepare your plan. We’ll move when you are ready.”

(Reply any)

“Once the plan is executed, I will move forward while the remaining two of you cover me from here. Once I’ve established cover for myself and started distracting the enemy with my own fire from cover, you three will advance to cover, and return fire as you are comfortable and able.” She explained. “Everyone ready?”

(Reply any)

“The only way to defeat fear is to tell it 'No'." No - we will not take shortcuts on the path to righteousness. No - we will not break the rules that protect us from our basest instincts. No - we will not allow desperation to destroy moral authority.” - Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery

“No, I’m from Iowa, I only work in outer space.” – Adm. James T. Kirk, “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”
