Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express
Day: 2
Stardate: 2445.12.02
(USS Exeter - Crew quarters corridor - CTO/3O Lieutenant Ravok & CFO
Lieutenant Ire Williams- 0556)
Ravok opened the doors and stood up as Ire entered. " Good morning,
Lieutenant "
~Lieutenant. So its official then~
“Good morning Sir.”
He saw Ravok nod his head towards the several illuminated blue strips on
the wall panels of his office.
"This is being recorded. If however there is anything you wish to say off
record just tap the button right there."
Ire saw him point to a small switch and nodded.
“Understood.”
"Have a seat." Ravok said.
“Thank you.”
Ire sat down at the chair offered which was across from Ravok and waited
for him to start.
Ravok opened up the replicator menu on his terminal. " Want some tea?" He
asked.
“Yes please.”
Ravok ordered two teas, Ires appeared in from of him , Ravoks in front of
him.
“Thanks you.” He picked up the tea and sipped it slowly-
Taking a sip of his tea Ravok sat his cup back down. " Well Lieutenant, I
am sure you know by now that Commander Tyko Nix is dead. "
“Yes. Greta just told me before Ensign T`kel arrived.”
" A minor oversight within my department alerting Greta, that alert was
sent before I realized that you had a conversation with him yesterday."
Ravok mentioned.
“Yes I spoke to him briefly but it was only in passing.”
" Policy mandates that I talk with everyone he had contact with. That is
why you are here. So with that being said Lieutenant, what can you tell me
of your last conversation with the Commander ?"
He paused for a moment as he recalled what had been said during that busy
day.
“I was in the main shuttle bay.I had just come back from acargo run from
Freedom. He came into the shuttle bay and said he was doing the rounds. He
made some offhand remarks about the Captain promoting friends and family
over others. As well as thinking that my lieutenant rank was due to being
friends with the Captain and that I would be...what did he call it...that I
would be `second fiddle` to other members of the command staff.”
He sipped his tea again.
“But you must have this on record. As all conversations, especially on the
shuttle bay are recorded by the computer. So you know what we said already.”
Ravok looked at him. " Yeah" He paused.
" I heard it. " he said and shook his head.
" The commander had a reputation for stirring people up, this much is
known. Did you notice anything odd about him? Anything unusual? "
Ire thought about it.
“Yes he did and he was good at it. I don't know if I can't put my finger on
it. The way he was talking he was trying to push my buttons but he shook my
hand and also saluted me before leaving which in itself is not odd from
another officer but from him and what he had just said seemed a bit
disjointed.I am sorry if that doesn't make sense it's the only way I can
describe it.”
" I understand. Could you tell me of your whereabouts last night between
midnight and 0200?"
“My whereabouts?”
" I'm just trying to piece the puzzle together. While the cause of death
has yet to be determined. I am being proactive in trying to rule people
out." Ravok stated.
“I had trouble getting to sleep after the party and the crazy day we had
getting ready for the launch. I needed to clear my head and get my mind
into order as I had the morning shift. I did not want to wake up Greta so I
went for a run which normally works.”
" That late? " Ravok asked.
“It's not the first time I have done it on Exeter. I would do it on Mars as
well as at the academy.”
" I see, what time was this ?" He asked Ire.
“I left at about 0100 and ran for about an hour and the chrono said 0205
when I got back.”
Ravok sat forward in his chair.
" Along the way did you stop anywhere? Access any terminals ? Replicators ?
"
Ire paused knowing that what he was going to say would not look good for
him.
~You have nothing to hide~
“No, I mainly ran around the deck and I bought my own water bottle. I was
planning on going down to deck eight to do a longer circuit but I did not
want to be climbing back up the decks via the jeffires tubes.”
"On your run did you notice anything odd anything that seemed off ? Anyone
suspicious?"
Ravok knew there was no way that Ire could have done this if it was in fact
a murder. Perhaps Ire saw something.
Ir shook his head.
“No nothing seemed off but then I had my headphones on so I would not have
heard much anyway and before you ask yes my route took me past Commander
Nix`s quarters. I did not see anything suspicious when I passed. It was
just empty corridors for the whole run.”
Ravok thought about the security breach. ~ wait a minute ~
" Is this your usual route? " Ravok asked optimistically.
He sighed and shook his head.
“No sorry. I just run to clear my head. I randomly go left or right at the
junctions. There was no plan for my route.”
Ravok nodded his head. " I see. Is there anything else you wish to add ?"
He paused as something materialized into his mind. He concentrated on his
tea for a moment as he concentrated on it.
“There was something.... at the junction near Commanders Nix`s
quarters…..the console on the wall, it fuzzed as I ran past. I only saw it
out of the corner of my eye and I thought I imagined it as I was tired but
after what happened to Commander Nix it might be something.”
Ravok raised his brow. " It fuzzed?" This was particularly interesting as
Ire knew nothing of the security breach and definitely didn't have the
computer knowledge to pull off a hack of this magnitude.
" What time was this ? If you had to guess ?" Ravok asked.
“Umm I had just finished my half way song so around 130 give or take five
minutes.”
~ That fits the coding dilations that Ensign Zot discovered. ~
" Thank you Lieutenant Williams." Ravok said.
" I believe that is all I need from you. You are free to go " Ravok said.
“Yes Sir.”
He finished his tea, stood up, nodded to Ravok and left the office.
After Ire left Ravok thought about how the information that Ire provided
put him in the worst possible location according to the timeline of things.
Yet Ire noticing the glitching of a terminal fit with the reloop cycles of
the biometric sensors that Ensign Zot discovered.
The main issue besides the obvious death of Tyko Nix was the fact that for
two hours the biometrics collected false readings. So if this was murder
the culprit had the ability to tamper with highly safeguarded programming
and the willingness to take life. Or even worse the culprit wasn't acting
alone…
