Mission: Andromeda's Chain
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.01.03
(USS Exeter - Bridge - Ensign JG Matthew Fuller - 0307)
Matthew was concentrating on trying to figure out the object as well as
scan the transmission when he felt a presence beside him. He then heard a
very loud voice and turned to see Commander Merek standing there not
looking very happy at all
Keira stood as she walked over to the OPS station, “Mister Fuller. On
*this *vessel we respect the chain of command. When you contacted Commander
Bracken directly with out immanent harm to the vessel or Federation
citizens in jeopardy you violated Starfleet protocol. Even *if* this signal
turns out to be a distress call, I had the bridge at the time and was the
correct person to report it to.” “Future violations of protocol you may
find yourself relieved of duty until the next duty day, do I make myself
clear?
Matthew nearly fell out of his chair as he tried to stand, both to try and
lean away from her and also to stand at attention.
"Ma'am! I apologise Ma'am! There was no violation intended Ma'am. I guess
the excitement and the newness of everything got to me and I panicked and
did what I did" Without pausing he continued. "Won't happen again Ma'am!"
"As you were"
He watched walk away and continued standing at attention until she had
moved well away from where he was. Taking a shaky breath he looked around
the bridge, everyone seemed to be looking at their screens so he slid down
into his chair and tried to concentrate.
(Reply Bracken)
More conversations went back and forth as the departments were comparing
data.
" Captain." Ravok said, loud and clear.
(Reply Bracken)
A visual of the cylindrical object was placed on the main view screen.
" As you can see the object is cylindrical in shape, with structural
malformations as if it were once attached to something else. The object is
roughly 8.7 meters in length with a diameter of 2.7 meters. Tactical
analysis shows nothing that could be assessed as a threat. My professional
analysis is space trash. "
“If someone survived in that, that would be impressive.” Keira noted.
" Might I suggest showing more interest in the transmission we picked up.
Even though the language is unknown, the tonality of the voice and
linguistic structure seems to sound desperate, but that's just my input. "
Ravok concluded.
“…and I would suggest looking through the logs, after we arrived here and
during the time the computers were gummed up. There may be a second, or
should I say first transmission. Universal Translators work better with
more information. Another transmission would double the amount of data we
would have to work with.” Keira said.
Matthew had been listening to what the officers had been saying and despite
still feeling embarrassed and wanting to disappear from the Bridge and be
as far as possible from the current environment, he had had an idea and
slowly stood and cleared his throat.
"I don't mean to speak out of turn and I'm aware that after my mistake
earlier you may not want to hear from me for a while, but there is
something about that object that just doesn't sit right with me. I'd like
permission for myself and if you want a more senior person to supervise me,
to study the object a bit more"
He stopped and stood at attention waiting for a response.....positive or
negative...
