She was still unsteady on her feet, so she was grateful for Ravok’s help. She wasn’t sure exactly where they were inside the facility, so she let Ravok lead. It was heading into the night shift, so there weren’t many people in the corridors. She saw someone from security that she recognized, so she waved and said hello. Ravok nodded his head to a few people they passed along the way. "We'll get you back and get you in bed.” “Get me in bed.” Taya let out a sputtering laugh. Ravok nervously laughed. “You'll sleep this off and in the morning. You'll be good as new" He said trying to reassure her that she was gonna be alright. They rounded the corridor, they finally made it to her quarters. "Is this it?" he asked. Taya pointed to the name plate on the door. “Yup. Ensign Taya. See? It says right there.” He read the name plate. "So it is" The doors whooshed open and he helped her inside. He looked around her quarters. They were neat and organized like his. "This is nice" he said, complimenting her quarters. “Thank you,” said Taya. “Can I get you something?” This was the first time she had a visitor in her quarters, so Taya wanted to be a proper hostess. Ravok shook his head. "No I'm fine. Let's get you to bed. You need to relax." He said as he assisted her to her bed. He had dealt with Keira on the Mystique and made sure she was ok. Even though Keira was his girlfriend, Taya is a fellow officer. She doesn't need medical attention, but she definitely needs someone to look after her. Taya let Ravok guide her into the bedroom, but she didn’t know what to do next. She had done the polite thing by asking him if he wanted something. She knew she needed to sleep, but that would have been rude while entertaining a guest. She decided the best course of action was to do nothing. He looked at her outfit, it was soaked in vomit. Was Ravok staring at her body? Was she supposed to show him her gratitude for bringing her safely to her quarters? She had never had sexual relations, and Ravok was a handsome man. He looked for her dresser. "You need to change out of those clothes, where are your shirts?" he asked as he motioned to the dresser. Taya pointed to her dresser and watched while Ravok rummaged through the drawers. She giggled when the first drawer he opened was the one with her underwear. Ravok shook his head as each drawer he opened just happened to be the wrong one. ~Oh great, good job man. Just put the underwear back and find the shirts.~ Finally he found the right drawer. It was full with undershirts. He grabbed one out and sat it on the bed next to her. "Here you go. I'll wait out there. Let me know when you’re done" he said feeling a little awkward, he had just touched her underwear. Taya watched Ravok hurry out of her bedroom. It seemed he was embarrassed. She sat on the bed and bent over to take off her shoes. After almost falling over, she noticed she wasn’t wearing any. She looked around the room, but didn’t see them, and she didn’t remember taking them off. She shrugged her shoulders. A few minutes later, Taya stepped out of her bedroom. She was wearing the shirt Ravok found, but it was on backwards. She had also changed into a very skimpy and tight pair of shorts. “I’m all changed now,” said Taya with a smile. Ravok turned around and looked at her. ~Maybe she was getting hot. Andorians do prefer colder climates... Keira would look great in those~ he thought with a shrug. He had a large glass of water with a straw in it in his hand "Good, you look... comfortable, now let's tuck you in. This water is for you to remain hydrated " he said as he motioned for her to return to her room. He was seeing more of her than he expected to this evening. When Taya accepted the glass, their fingers touched, sending a sensation like electricity through her and causing feelings in parts of her she never experienced before. Though intoxicated, and with lowered inhibitions, she was still able to understand what was happening. Ravok had a lot to drink as well. If she made an offer she was one step away from making, and if he accepted, it could be something they both regretted for a very long time. Taya and Ravok had a friendship she treasured and didn't want to lose, and he was seeing Ensign Merek. Taya had to end this. "Thank you, Ravok, for everything you've done for me, and not just tonight, but I can tuck myself in." He nodded his head. "That is acceptable and you are welcome, if you need anything I'm always a comm badge inquiry away." he said. As he noticed she was looking at him rather odd. ~Please don't throw up again.~ There was an awkward moment of silence. "Good night, Ensign Shara." "Good night, Ensign Taya" he said as he exited her quarters. After Ravok had left, Taya stared at the door. Sighing, she took a long sip of water and padded barefoot to her bedroom, her mind still trying to figure out what happened to her shoes. (reply none) (posted by Brown & Davis) (Mars – Geneva Memorial – Pilot Ensign (JG) – Ire Williams - 0009) He saw angry with his self for not coming here sooner. He had tried to before he had gone on the Trill mission but had just not gotten the chance due to the work setting up the wing and the squadron. He had realised that the Canton Bar was near to where it was so when everyone had headed back, he had decided to try and find it. He needed to go for a walk to clear his head and get his thoughts in order. The monument was not huge by any means, but it was simple and respectful with a plaque. It was dedicated to the fallen of the Geneva Disaster when the Sub Space Tunnel had collapsed and the Starbase Geneva had to be evacuated. He looked at the plaque which named the ships which had destroyed and the wounded that has died that day or after resulting from their injuries. There was a similar one at Starfleet headquarters which he had visited while at the academy, but Mars was where they had built the ship that became his home. He scanned down the list until the found the one he was looking for ‘USS Road Runner’. He paused running his finger across the embossed lettering carved in the plaque. She had been lost that day, doing an exploration mission deep in the Subspace tunnel. The report on the incident that had been released afterwards had stated that the Road Runner had sent a message informing Geneva of the tunnels collapse but had not reached safety in time and was presumed lost with all hands. He took a slow breath and centred himself. “Mum, Dad.” He spoke into the darkness of the memorial and the sands of mars.” I hope you are proud of what I have accomplished. Made it through the Academy and got to Mars. Made me a Squadron leader, me that crazy little kid that Jennifer thought would stall every time I took the shuttle off the hanger deck. I am responsible for a whole squadron of men, woman and fighters. I have good friends here and not all of them in the Wing but Ravok, Greta……. ,Reena and our Boss Trip whose parents worked on the Spectre strange isn’t it” he paused “I would give my life for all of them in a heartbeat.” As stood there for a moment looking out over the dark sands of mars and sighed. “Things have not gone great for me. I have been involved in the loss of three craft, survived an explosion in my office as well as causing a diplomatic incident while on Trill since leave the academy. Then there was that misunderstanding about reliefs, I do think that Trip thinks that I am a menace to the Wing. I know he tries to hide it, but I think that if I was shuffled off to a nonpilot position it would make his life easier. I only met Reena who seems a nice person and Ravok and Greta are good people, but I know that I must vex them as well some time. I did notice them when Trip talked about the belt. They feel that if I win that I will feel vindicated and that I am good pilot not some cursed idiot that keeps doing wrong things. I would like to win it, but I do not need it to prove to myself that I am a good pilot. I would not be here if I was not a good pilot. The Fleet might be desperate to get back out in the dark, but Trip would have grounded me in a heartbeat if I was unfit to fly and a danger to the squadron or the Wing but I should be adult enough to ground myself before it came it that.” “I have also been given a nick name crash bandicoot has not helped and the fact that I got allocated a new flight officer who is a contractor no less and not even fleet. I know that Niki my squadron second in command and Chief Tyrol my Senior Support Staff have been rotating the new flight officers so that they can get ‘experience’ with the boss. More like my routine flight officers think that my nick name is prophetic and that they will die when I crash. So, I now have Sonnlo a loudmouth ex-marine, but she has experience and knows what she is doing.” “I got the Endeavour in orbit. Not been out in her for a while. It will be nice to get away from everyone, just have the sun in the sails and travel through the system. Just to slow down and take things at a slower rate especially after all the speeding around I have been doing.” A small smile came across his face. “But I will have to have a chat with the Boss about it first.” ~I’ll try and grab him after the meeting and before we go and start the contest~ He would bring his flight plan long with him. He turned back to the plaque and touched the ships name again before standing back. “Mum, Dad.” He straitened to attention. “For my old family.” With that he turned smartly away from the plaque and the memorial. He looked towards the Mars complex and could just make out the 1st Fighter Wing’s complex on its far side in the distance. “For my new family.” He then started the back. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Mars Base- Ensign Mereks Personal Quarters-Pilot Ensign jg Ravok -0029) Ravok left Tayas quarters genuinely worried about her and hoped she was going to be ok. He noticed people were snickering at him helping her walk down the hallway and giving them weird looks . He found this odd because he was only helping a fellow officer and a friend. He decided to go to Keiras quarters. He needed her company right now. Even if he sat on the floor while she slept. He just needed proximity. He walked up to her door and chimed the PADD. A few moments passed before she responded. ( reply Keira) "Its me Ravok, I'm sorry to bother you. Can I come in ?" He asked . Through the door. ( reply Keira) He entered he quarters. " Hi, I need someone to talk to" ( reply Keira) He removed his jacket and sat down on her couch. " I just left Ensign Tayas quarters. She was pretty drunk. " ( reply Keira ) " I was on my way back the bar and as I approached the complex she outside drinking. She seemed sad and kept calling herself the swan of dishonor. I guess that's some Andorian figure of speech. She fell over and vomited everywhere. Soni helped her up and escorted her to her quarters. She couldn't stand without aid. So along the way I helped her walk...people were snickering, pointing and laughing. It was rude and uncalled for. " He explained. ( reply Keira) " When we arrived at her place helped her inside and found a shirt for her to change into. She emerged from her bedroom wearing the shirt and small pair of shorts. I'm pretty sure she was overheated and was trying to cool off. I handed her a large glass of water to keep her hydrated than I left." He said and paused " I hope shes ok " ( reply Keira) (Posted by davis) (Mars Base – Personal Quarters – aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 0030) The door chimed. Luckily she had just made it in but had not made it to bed yet. She was going to change out of her gym clothes, recycle them probably take a shower and go to bed, that may change depending on who was at her door at midnight. She hadn’t had time to install anything yet. “Who is it?” She asked through the com unit. =^= Its me Ravok, I'm sorry to bother you. Can I come in ? =^= ~What is he?~ She hobbled over and keyed the release. He entered her quarters. " Hi, I need someone to talk to." Keira blinked. “Sure. Come on in.” She said welcoming him into her spartan-esque quarters. The lights were still low. He removed his jacket and sat down on her couch. " I just left Ensign Taya’s quarters. She was pretty drunk. " ~You’re telling me this because?~ “Continue.” She said evenly. " I was on my way back the bar and as I approached the complex she outside drinking. “You did a kind thing. Are you sure they were laughing at her and her drunken state?” She said there was a pause, “…and?” " When we arrived at her place helped her inside and found a shirt for her to change into. She emerged from her bedroom wearing the shirt and small pair of shorts. I'm pretty sure she was overheated and was trying to cool off. I handed her a large glass of water to keep her hydrated than I left." He said and paused, " I hope shes ok " “….and that’s all that happened?” she said. (Reply Ravok) “No, of course I believe you. If I didn’t I would have lead with the accusation.” She admitted. “Computer lights up 50%” The lights went up enough for him to see the state she was in. Her face with a multitude of cuts and abrasions, the large tear in her shirt on her left shoulder. (Reply Ravok) “I just got back from the holodeck. I met your friend Erin.” She said. (Reply Ravok) She laughed, “Ow. That hurt.” She said, “No, I was going through a program I got in the Academy. A fighting program. I dispatched one enemy and she came in and wanted to try too. We then fought two more together. I ripped a bug’s head off and she shot a bird creature with an arrow. We both kinda got banged up pretty bad. Did you know she knew archery?” (Reply Ravok) “No, it was news to me.” She then switched subjects, “Taya is a tough girl, though. I’m sure she’s fine.” She said, but like on the beach Ravok wouldn’t let it go. (Reply Ravok) “Well, there you are, ever the white knight. We can call her at 0800, so she has time before the meeting to get ready, make sure she’s doing OK. Will that make you feel better?” she relented. (Reply Ravok) “No. For me, it’s weird. For you it’s who you are and I understand.” She admitted. “Now since you are here, could you be useful and help me take off my shirt?” She giggled, “Ow!” (Reply Ravok) “No.” she said, “Not, yet. I was going to take a shower and I’m banged up enough to not be able to do it myself.” (Reply Ravok) She presented one of her sleeves, her right one, which she pulled her arm out. Before she presented the left one she reached up underneath and pulled out two throwing knives she had tucked into what looked like decorative ribbing she had along the abdomen of the shirt. Both knives clattered to the floor. She presented her left arm, she winced as she pulled that one out of her sleeve with his help. As he carefully peeled the shirt up a multitude of bruises could be seen now forming. Largest of which on her left humorous it was about the size of his hand wrapped half-circumferentially ending at her bicep and triceps. She gave him a peck on the cheek. “Thanks, flyboy. Were you going to stay?” (Reply Ravok) “If you can speak loud enough to talk over the shower, and on the other side of the door.” (Reply Ravok) (Posted by Todd) (Mars Base – Personal Quarters – Pilot Ensign JG Ravok – 0031) After explaining his night to her, in detail. “….and that’s all that happened?” Keira asked. " Yes, of course thats all that happened. You dont believe me?" Ravok asked. “No, of course I believe you. If I didn’t I would have lead with the accusation.” She responded “Computer, lights up 50%” Keira ordered Ravok was in slight shock. Kerias face had cuts and abrasions, and a large tear in her shirt on her left shoulder. " What the hell happened to you?" he asked as he looked at her wounds. “I just got back from the holodeck. I met your friend Erin.” She said. He raised an eyebrow and laughed slightly " You got beat up by a counciler?" She laughed, “Ow. That hurt.” “No, I was going through a program I got in the Academy. A fighting program. I dispatched one enemy and she came in and wanted to try too. We then fought two more together. I ripped a bug’s head off and she shot a bird creature with an arrow. We both kinda got banged up pretty bad. Did you know she knew archery?” " Wow, sounds like the two of you enjoyed yourselves. Erin was the highest ranking Cadet in the archery program at the academy all 4 years, you didnt know that ?" “No, it was news to me.” “Taya is a tough girl, though. I’m sure she’s fine.” She said, switching the subject back To Ensign Taya. He looked off to the side and nodded his head. " Yeah, she is tough. I still worry though" he said. He looked back at Keira " I still worry though, it's just what I do" he said laughing. “Well, there you are, ever the white knight. We can call her at 0800, so she has time before the meeting to get ready, make sure she’s doing OK. Will that make you feel better?” she relented. He shook his head " That's not necessary. Does it bother you that I'm concerned ?" “No. For me, it’s weird. For you it’s who you are and I understand.” Keira answered “Now since you are here, could you be useful and help me take off my shirt?” She giggled, “Ow!” Ravok smiled. " Going to sleep?" “No.” she said, “Not, yet. I was going to take a shower and I’m banged up enough to not be able to do it myself.” " Yeah, sure . I'm happy to help. " he said as stood up to help her. As he helped her remove her shirt she removed two knives and dropped then to the floor. He shook his head and laughed. He body was bruised an beaten. If she was this banged up. How bad off was Erin he thought. After helping Keira she gave him a peck on the cheek. “Thanks, flyboy. Were you going to stay?” " Yeah, if you dont mind. I wanna hear more about your day." He said smiling at her. Even all bruised she was still the most beautiful woman on the entire planet. " I also want to tell you about our Pilot battle simulation tomorrow." “If you can speak loud enough to talk over the shower, and on the other side of the door.” She responded. " Yeah sure, I think I can do that" he said as he followed her towards her bathroom and sat down on the floor against the wall as she entered the room by herself. " So tell me more about this bug you decapitated" he said loud enough for her to hear him. He was genuinely interested in her story. Perfectly happy to let her rant. As he sat and listened to her talk he closed his eyes and relaxed. Not falling asleep but just relaxing as she went through the brutal process, joy in her voice... (Reply Keira) ( posted by Davis) ( Mars Facility-Gym- Ensign jg Ravok & Ensign jg Lacey Jacobs-0500 ) Running on the treadmill, Ravok was working on keeping his endurance up. He found this helped him keep with his mental focus. Also his sparring regiments with Keira had reached advanced levels. Trip had given him some tips to help him reach peak Endurance levels. Strapped around his ankles were density increasing units. He finished his work out and decided to hydrate himself. As he drank from his water bottle Lacey Jacobs walked up to the treadmill he had just vacated. She gave him a look. " I'm done with it, all yours " Ravok said to her while wiping the sweat from his brow with a towel. " First time seeing you here" she said and pointed at his black gym shirt with Spartans written across the chest in red lettering. " You're one of pilots aren't you ?" He nodded his head " I usually come here around 0300 and yes I'm one of the pilots" She started the treadmill starting with a slow jog speed. " Your Commander comes here alot." " Trip? " he asked. " Yeah tall bearded handsome guy " Ravok raised an eyebrow " Yeah that's him I suppose " " So you agree ? " she asked smirking but looking ahead " Agree?" He asked confused as to what she was taking about . " Him being handsome...it's ok I wont judge"Lacey replied " No, I mean he's a good looking guy for being a...you know what no " he responded. " Relax flyboy, I'm just having fun ruffling the feathers of the friendly Romulan officer." Ravok sat down on the bench next to the treadmill and looked at his Commband on his arm. " Trip is a good guy you know " She looked over and down at him " Yeah he is , we talk sports all the time. He knows his stuff" she said as she thought about her previous interactions with trip. ~Sports, gym, and both enjoy ruffling my feathers...wait !~ Ravok had a brainstorm. Trip seemed down in the dumps lately and very isolated focusing on work almost endlessly. Ravok considered Trip family and was beginning to worry about him. " You know maybe the two of you should hangout sometime. " he suggested to her. She stopped jogging and placed the treadmill in standby mode and stepped off. " Hangout? Like a date? " she asked him with her hands on her hips He finished taking another drink of his water. " Sure, I didn't say a date, but why not ? Both of you are single and like watching athletes beat the hell out of each other" he laughed. Lacey pondered this idea for a moment and bit her lip " Well he is something" she said as she put her hand up " I mean he's into the same things I am. Who am I kidding? he's hot" she said smiling. " I will talk with him and tell him. " Ravok said. He eyes widened " No, no don't tell him it's me, surprise him. Like a blind date " " A blind date ? But you seem to have sufficient eyesight " he replied Lacey laughed. " Umm. I mean he goes into the situation unaware of who I am. I know men like him. They ooze confidence, and I love confidence. I want him to pump himself up for the unknown. I don't want him prepared for the girl from the gym who can almost lift as much as him." Lacey said giggling. Ravok nodded his head " Understood, I'm going to head out. I will talk with him today." He said as he stood up. " I will contact you later with his response " " I'll be waiting " she replied as she stepped back on the treadmill and powered it up and resumed her workout. Ravok walked away toward the exit. ~ Now all I have to do is convince Trip~ ( reply None ) ( posted by Davis) (Mars facility – Void Hunters Squadron Leaders Office – Pilot Ensign (JG) – Ire Williams /Flight Officer - Sonnlo Caonrobh- 0630) Ire looked across the table at where Sonnlo was sitting across from him. He had made his introductions and showed her the Void Hunters world of Hanger 2 and some of the important places in the Wing’s complex as a whole. “So how do you find our home?” Sonnlo shifted in her chair. “It is good Sir.” Ire hid a smile and nodded. “Okay so first a few rules while you are my Flight Officer. While we are out of the cockpit, we rank applies but when we fly together, I am Ire and you are Sonnlo okay.” “Yes sir.” “I expect high standards from my people, but that does not mean that I am a dictator. If you have a suggestion, comment, query I have an open-door policy so please come and see me.” “Yes Sir.” He glanced down as his PADD. “So tell me about yourself and your flying experience?” Sonnlo shrugged. “There is not much to say. I am a marine just like my brother. He went into Special Maritime Exploration and Recon Force and I joined their Aviation section as a pilot. When the federation fell apart we both left Pacifica looking for jobs and became contractors. Tagh my brother along with a friend called Sytuk got work in security and I managed to get a place in the squadron.” “What type of flying did you do when you were in the Special Maritime Exploration and Recon Force and afterwards?” She paused for a moment before talking. “The Aviation unit was split into different Groups dealing with space and atmospheric combat to lift transport to recon and strategic bombing. I was lucky to be given a space on the highly coveted Electronic Warfare Attack Squadron of the 100th Intruder Support Group.” Ire thought for a moment as the name rang a bell. “The Growlers and Prowlers Squadron?” She nodded. “Spent time as both pilot and E-War officer in the squadron. When we left, I flew anything we were contracted to use which was a wide variety of craft.” “Thank you, do you have any questions for me?” “Is it true that we are going on a contest with the other squadron leaders and we are using MK5 Valkyries?” “Yes, we are doing it today and we are using the MK5s. It’s on the holodeck as we only have enough for the squadron leads at the moment. Have you much experience with them?” “I have flown in MK2s and know the systems and capabilities of the MK5s.” Ire nodded. “I have flow the MK2 and MK5s” He paused looking around the office. “In the main complex they have tactical holotable that can display the data better. Shall we go and have a better look at MK5s capabilities.” “Yes Sir.” Ire stood up with Sonnlo and headed for the main complex. (Mars facility –Tactical Simulation Display – Pilot Ensign (JG) – Ire Williams /Greta Smith/Flight Officer - Sonnlo Caonrobh- 0640) They had a large holographic display of the MK5 Valkyrie on the tactical table which was slowly rotating as they talked. “Sir as you know the MK5 sensor suites and electronic countermeasures are very adaptable. Linking them into targeting suites and using a few tricks here and there we might be able to….” Ire and Sonnlo turned as doors opened and some else entered the room. Walking into the room, Greta spied the two men at the holotable and smiled, ~aw, he looks kind of cute when he's concentrating ~ she thought to herself as she walked over. Dressed in her flight suit, Greta stood next to Sonnlo, "So, what's the plan? Because you know we have to take down that pair of pretenders. I want a chance to beat the boss." Ire nodded. “It's not going to be easy. Ravok is good and with that Romulan heritage behind him he’s quick. I am not sure about Reena but she seems a shrewd one and then we have the asteroids to deal with as well.” Raising an eyebrow, Greta winked at Ire. "You just have no vision do you? If we're gonna win, we have to out sneak the Romulan. Sure he's okay at flying but you have hundreds of years of Scottish ingenuity on your side." Ire eyed her cautiously “And what does your centuries of highly honed Celtic warrior instinct tell you?” "Simple, one of us stands out in the open, the other hides, strikes from behind. " “You think that they might be ready for that?” "Something that simple? No. They're gonna be expecting complicated battle tactics." Sonnlo spoke up. “It might work Sirs. We might be able to spook them in thinking that there is another fighter hiding in one place while the second fighter attacks them from a different direction. If we reconfigure the ECM suites along with a tactical sensor suite it could fool them that there is another fighter in hiding. Until they get close enough for the sensor to spot it for what it is.” Smiling, Greta hit Ire lightly. "See, listen to the ladies. We know what we are talking about." Ire rolled his eyes. “Greta don’t be silly of course you both know what you are talking about.” "So, now the question becomes who hides and who becomes the sacrificial lamb so to speak?" “It depends on if you want to come and save our asses or do you want us to be your shining knights in armour?” "Could you handle a woman saving your ass, mister?" “I have got no problem with you saving my ass.” he grinned at her and then went back to being more professional as he glanced at Sonnlo. ~I bet you don't ~ she thought to herself, allowing her gaze to linger on him for a second to long and then turned her attention to the holotable. "So, let's make this easier. Ire, sorry Ensign Williams, you hide. Then you can save my ass." Ire shook his head. “No, your plan is fine and any way if Sonnlo is going to set up the decoy it will make sense for us to be the bait and you come sneaking in and get them in a trap.” "Fine. If your Male ego can handle the little Scottish woman saving your behind, ladies." She replied with a wink. “My male ego has no problem with that, thank you very much.” as he sighed and looked at the two woman. Winking at Sonnlo, Greta looked back at Ire and flashed a smile, "I need to go take a shower. You two work out a plan and I'll meet you, young man, in the pilot's lounge in an hour or so." “Remember we have a general meeting at 0900 with the admiral. You don’t want to be late for that.” He watched as Greta walked out of the room and there was silence which seemed to emanate from her absence. “Sir is she always like that?” “No but Greta was my flight officer before she became squadron leader. So we have spent a long time in fighters doing patrols and missions.” “So you got to know her well Sir?” “Yes I think I know her quite well.” Sonnlo turn and looked at his with her head slightly tilted. “Sir If I was a smart woman and I am not. I could come to the conclusion that you saw each other socially?” Ire turned to look at her. “Excuse me!” “The way you were both were just now. I am sure that she is interested in you and I am sure that you are interested in her.” “Now just wait a moment. That is not funny.” “But Sir it's true don’t you see it?” “Is that your way of humour in Pacifica?” “Pacifica is very liberal in their relationships and also I am a Marine and as you know if you could not take a joke you should not have joined.” “You're not in the marines now?” “No Sir but as they say you can take a girl out or the marines but not the marine out of the girl.” Ire groaned. “Is this how our working relationship means to go on?” “What me Sir. I am pure as a new pearl sir.” “Come on let's get things sorted before something else happens.” “Yes Sir, of course Sir.” (reply None) (Posted by Jackie and Robbie) (Earth – London - Greenwich – Science Officer – Ensign (JG)- David Clarke - 0700) David stepped out of the house and onto the pavement outside. It was the middle house of a trio of large, semi-detached Victorian houses that he had spent the last couple of years doing his research on temporal mechanics after graduating from the Academy. He slung the duffle bag over his shoulder and was about to take the short walk to the shuttle port when the door opened, and Clare his research partner stepped out. “Hay David. You not saying good bye.” He grinned at her. “ I already said good bye you twice.” She grinned back. “Okay one last pop quiz.” “Go on then.” He smiled, Clare had enjoyed her pop quizzes which had passed some long nights in the research labs waiting for results. “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift... that's why they call it present” “Can’t remember but knowing you, it’s from some old cartoon.” “It was from Master Oogway. How could you not know that it’s not like we have not watch it many times.” “Of course it was. ” He smiled at her and gave her a small wave as he headed towards the shuttle port. “Stay safe. Time and tide waits for no one.” He saw her smile back as she went back inside and he walked off to the next chapter in his life. (Mars Facilities- Security Complex- Petty Officer (2nd Class)- Steven Hammons- 0700) Steven was reporting for duty a little early because he could foresee some issues. He checked in at the front desk to get waved through by the officer of the watch then made for an area where there were some unoccupied offices. Since the case he had been asked to investigate had been the purview of the senior officers only initially it was obvious to him that it would not be looked upon favorably for him to pull it up in the general security area where just about anyone could lay eyes on it. The office had a working terminal, he knew this because he had been here a number of times before between rounds to take a break and unwind for a few minutes. He grabbed a mug of hot coffee, the good kind which was a straight single estate kona facsimile and sat down at the desk then started pulling up case files. He knew the case only in general terms under the infiltration/espionage file which was available to any in security who wanted to view it or rather to view the case name. There was no way to actually open the file unless you had the proper clearance. As expected his clearance for it hadn't made it through the system yet. This was the main reason he had come in early. He took a sip of the hot brew which he often called liquid crack because of the way it *wired* him up, boosting his alertness and thought process along with sometimes making him jittery. "Ah. Good stuff." He smacked his lips, took another pull then set the cup down and made the call he had been avoiding. "Security admin I need a rope." The viewer came alive as admin picked up the call. =^= Admin, Skyles here. What's your issue?=^= Hammons had seen Skyles around but really didn't know him very well. "I need temporary clearance to open a case file I've been assigned to." =^= And what case would that be? =^= "The Jade Lady." Skyles looked him up and down for a moment, taking in the two stripes on his sleeves which were visible as he was leaning toward the viewer. =^= Name? =^= "Hammons." =^= You're Steven Hammons aren't you?=^= At Steven's nod he said, =^= I've seen your name many times on the books for breaking up brawls detaining drunks and booking inciteful conduct. This is way out of your league. =^= He sighed. =^= Look Hammons I'll give you a chance before I say not a snowball's chance in hell for you to explain why you want to look at that file and it had better be good. =^= "Chief Peters assigned me to it yesterday." =^= Of course I've got to verify that. =^= Skyles' fingers began moving nimbly about his interface, either he had blanked Hammons' picture on his end or minimized it while he checked the database. It took a couple of minutes before Skyles nodded and gave Steven his attention again. =^= Okay the order came through this morning so you're legit it just hasn't been posted yet. I'm about to take care of that...done. I'm sending you the access code now. =^= The code appeared on Hammons' monitor and he downloaded it onto a PADD he had brought with him. "Thanks." =^= Sure thing but a word of warning. =^= He looked at Skyles. "What's that?" =^= Be careful what you use that access on, it could get you into a lot of trouble. Keep to things pertaining to your case and stay out of things that will get you flagged. I'd better not see you jockeying around with it or I'll cook your goose. =^= "Understood." After Skyles went away Hammons picked up the coffee again which had cooled a bit and took a few sips then smacked his lips again. "Time to get to work." He pulled up 'The Jade Lady' again and downloaded the access from his PADD which gained him entry. The file opened and pages of reports appeared. "Wowzer!" He exclaimed The report dates began the very day after they had arrived on Mars with any and every unauthorized transmission leaving or entering the base. He scrolled down through hundreds of them before sitting back in disbelief. "That cant be all. It will take me weeks to go through all of these. There's got to be something more to this." Sure enough there was another section that had been broken down into unauthorized coded messages incoming and outgoing. This report was much shorter. "Hmmm. We may be getting somewhere." All of these coded messages were shown as *Unknown and unauthorized* except for the first two and the name on those was. "Sekal? The Vulcan science officer now acting assistant chief science officer for research was using unauthorized coded messages his first two days here? What the hell?" This was shocking, what was the Vulcan into? Hammons checked the time and saw that an hour had already passed and all of the senior officers had been called to a staff meeting with the Admiral at zero nine hundred. There were a lot more pages to dig into and he knew he had only brushed the surface but it seemed a good idea to catch the Vulcan quickly if he could and see if he could pry out of him the reasons behind these transmissions. With Sekal in a hurry he might let something slip ... if that was possible for a Vulcan. Steven closed the file, took another decent drink of his coffee and slapped it on the desk then hurried out with the PADD. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles G) The Warbirds were up in the sky running their standard procedures. Ravok remained on the ground to finalize some operational reports and to attend the 0900 conference that the admiral had called. The Warbirds had made it nearly a month without him in the air, what was another day. He decided this would be a good time to talk with Trip about his earlier discussion with Lacey about the blind date… He walked to Trip's office and the doors opened before he could chime his arrival ~ I guess Trip is in a good mood this morning~ Ravok thought to himself. He had noticed that when Trip wasn't in the mood to be bothered his office door was typically locked. When the doors opened freely Trip was usually more laid back and more inclined to being 'Bro Trip' as Ravok referred to him. " Excuse me Sir, Do you have a moment ?" Ravok asked as the doors shut behind him “What’s up? Yeah take a seat.” Trip said barely looking up from his Terminal. " Thank you Sir " He said as he took a seat. “So what do you got for me?” " The reports are going good, Operational systems are looking better than they have in weeks." Ravok replied “That’s good. That’s good.” Trip said half listening. " I have a personal matter to discuss. If you have the time " “Ok. Is this about the mandated day off tomorrow. Take a real one, I know I am. Going to Earth tomorrow. I hear rumblings from Billy that there might be a group going with the Admiral, but I’m ducking that and going solo. Need a breather, some fresh oxygen so to speak. I’ll be picking up some wine for the Red Sands from a vineyard I like in Italy. Might even stay overnight. Whole day of no work, no Mars. Just a day off." Trip began laughing. " I'm actually heading to Earth later to my house in Alaska for the day, so trust me I'm taking my day. " he chuckled. “So what’s this personal matter. Did Ensign Merek wise up and dump you?” Trip paused, “I’m just kidding.” Ravok straightened his posture in his chair. " No not yet she hasn't wizened up yet. I know you told me to work on not being so...observant of people, not watching their every move but , I am concerned. Not too much but still concerned." “What did Ire do this time?” " No , Ire is fine. Atleast last I checked he was. I was referring to you." “Me, I assure you Ravok, I’m fine.” ~Other than hiding a deep secret from my sister and best friend and about to take my friend to meet her birth mother for the first time, who also happens to be my mentor.~ " I have noticed you are really into your work the past few days. Which is understandable, but I wanted to suggest you take some time possibly tonight and join me and Keira on a date." Ravok said waiting to slip in the catch “Not free tonight, unfortunately. After the exercise I have Got to get paperwork taken care of so I can leave tomorrow.” Trip then paused replaying what he had heard in his head. “Wait, did you just say join you and Kiera on a date. Thanks but ’m not into umm, that kind of thing. I mean if you and Keira need to spice things up, thats fine, but I don’t want to be part of some weird triangle thing. Remember I’m your superior officer, and I just, umm yeah no thank you.” Ravok raised his hand " Whoa, your not either of our type." He said laughing. " Ire on the other hand.." he said jokingly " I was suggesting something called a blind date. Nothing serious, just someone I think you'd find interesting. The four of us get drinks and dinner and maybe a little Romulan ale driven karaoke." He laughed referring to the week before when Ire decided to drink more ale than he should have and insisted he storm the stage and sing some tunes. “I see.” Trip said looking at his PADD pondering the question. " If you need help with paperwork, I am more than capable of helping you. Take some time and relax, have fun. You are off all day tomorrow and I will handle anything you need me to take care of. " “Tell you what bud,” Trip said putting down the PADD. “Not sure I’m up for a double date right now, but tell whoever it is you were talking to, I’ll meet her for drinks at the Sands. If it works out, then sure, we can double date. But I’d rather get to know the person first before that. Three nights from now, does that work?” Ravok nodded his head " That works for me. It's probably better that way, I wouldn't want you being put to shame with my awesome dance moves. You maybe have the command and muscle but I definitely have the groove " he said laughing. “Whatever helps you sleep at night Ravy.” " A pet name Sir? I'm just kidding. Look I'll tell her to meet you at the red sands 2000 does that work for you? " “Yeah, sounds good.” ~What the hell, why not, might help with the stress.~ " Good, it's settled." Ravok said as he stood up. " Oh one other thing, wear pink. It worked for me " he said with a wink. “If you say so, but I’m not gonna have you dress me.” Ravok laughed. " Yeah it's probably best you don't. See you later Sir and remember let me know if you need any help with the paperwork, just shoot it my way " he said as he walked out of Trips office. ~ Well that went well, Lacey is gonna be pleased.~ As Ravok was leaving Trip yelled out, “don’t be late for the meeting at 0900!” Trip then turned back to his paperwork. He was putting the finishing touches on the simulation. There was also the briefing the admiral had planned to consider. It was going to be a busy day. (reply none) (posted by Will Banowsky and Rob Davis) (Mars Facilities- Science Annex- Floor 1- Petty Officer, Steven Hammons and Science Officer Adala Michael's - 0815) Steven stepped through the entryway and entered the science annex and it was a completely different world from the last time that he had been on Mars. While the Security offices were in much better condition the walls and floors here almost gleamed and he wondered if it had something to do with having a perfectionist Vulcan department head in-house. Would Steven himself be that worried about cleanliness with a Vulcan looking over his shoulder? He gave a short laugh at the thought. He was currently looking for said Vulcan to clean up an irregularity he had come across. Instead he stepped right into the path of a female ensign who nearly ran him down. "Oops. Pardon me." He gave her an apologetic nod. "Sorry for walking in front of you like that." Adala was still getting acclimated to her new surroundings and pulled up short. "It was entirely my fault. I shouldn't be rushing around like this." Her to-do list was a mile long and only so many hours in the day to get everything done. "Is there something I can help you with?" "Oh I don't know…", he said, ",...I'm looking for Sekal. I was hoping to catch him before he ran off to the big officer's meeting that the Admiral is holding at 0900. Have you seen him around?" "No I haven't ..." She stopped in mid-sentence and stuttered. "Meeting ...... I completely forgot, got so busy around here." "Oh it's nothing…," he lied, ",... just thought about chewing the fat." He gave a genuine chuckle. "I think the Chief may still be mad at him for going after that telepath on the Mystique by himself. Chief Peters firmly believes in taking along backup, a straight by-the-book guy. That's what makes him so good at his job." She shook her head as he continued speaking. ~Dammit Adala you're gonna get yourself in trouble ~ She thought to herself before speaking again. "I completely forgot about the meeting. .... Um, can you take me to where it's being held?" Her cheeks grew hot as she asked for his help. Not only had she forgotten about the meeting but she still didn't know her way around the place, and knew she'd get lost without it. ~ Miss 'do-everything-yourself' you FINALLY had to ask for help ~ Her thoughts teased her as she waited for his reply. "Sure…", he said and looked at a chrono, "... you've got a few minutes if you need to finish up or pick up something. I'll wander along with you if you don't mind the company." Adala wasn't about to admit she wanted more than his company, but also his ability to find his way around the place. She tapped the Padd she had in her hand. "I have what I need here." "The place has really undergone a makeover since we left." He looked into a lab as they passed which appeared to be well stocked with equipment. "The last I heard they had to throw away nearly everything because it was so gutted by the purge." "I'd love the company." she said with a smile. "Lead the way." She thought of all the time she'd spent restocking as if reading his thoughts as they passed one of the labs. “Yeah, restocking this place has been a chore.” He led the way out and across the grounds. The lawn was a verdant green against the backdrop of the red Martian soil. "I saw you on the Mystique after we left Mars.. Did you get to the base right before we left? I don't remember seeing you around before then." "I haven't been here long. Still trying to find my footing. It's so different from being on the ship." she replied as they walked along. There was a noise like thunder above as a shuttle descended toward one of the two landing pads on the other side of the base. They passed the Arboretum which the other department head in Science administered then hooked a left toward the main building in the complex which overshadowed everything. "That's the administrative complex." He motioned toward it. "The Admiral's office is there along with a bunch of others, conference rooms and administrative offices. Plenty of space for more top brass when they get around to moving here." Adala took in her surroundings, being sure to take note of landmarks and where specific buildings were. She knew it would take time for her to get it all down but also knew she was up to the task. "That's where he holds his meetings with the senior officers so whenever you get tagged for one head there. The security offices are on the right side of the main building." He turned his head to watch the shuttle disappear behind one of the dome-like base housing units. It would be touching down any second. Hammons picked up the pace a little to make sure she made it with plenty of time to spare. Adala quickened her pace “I really appreciate the tour and the escort.” she said with a smile. Steven glanced back and gave her a thumbs-up. "You're welcome. I pull a lot of guard duty and patrols and you'd be surprised how many people I've had to give directions to." He laughed. "And that's just when they're sober. It becomes a whole new challenge when they're drunk and me and Boyles have had to drag them back to their apartments or the brig." Adala laughed and shook her head. "Good thing I get drunk, when I get drunk with friends who can get me home, hopefully in one piece and save you the trouble." He pointed to the left side of the complex as they neared it. "That's where Engineering has their offices and workshops. Any work orders get sent here. They've got vehicles inside a bay in the back so they can get around quickly with their equipment." She took note of the many places he pointed out to her. She never knew when she might need to find these places again. The walkway took them another couple of hundred yards from there to the large central plaza which was circular and paved over. The Federation seal was set into the center of it. The plaza had been meticulously cleaned and maintained since the base had been reopened and the blue and white stood out in stark relief. He veered around the edge of it as was common practice. People avoided the seal out of respect. She followed him, at his heels, her eyes roaming the building and taking in everything in view. They soon pulled up to the outer doors of the administrative complex and he stopped and turned toward her. "Inside the doors is a wide hall, take the first left off of it and Conference Room A will be on your right after a short walk. The rooms are all clearly labeled." He snapped a salute out of respect. "A belated welcome to Mars sir. I'm sure I'll see you around the base again." She smiled and nodded. “Thank you again for the impromptu tour and escort.” she said before turning and heading inside and to the conference room. (Mars Facilities- Conference Room A-Science Officer - Ensign (jg) Adala Michaels - 0852) Adala walked in and noticed that the expansive table in the large hall was starting to fill up so she moved toward where those in her department were clustered. Sekal was near the head of the table to her right and nodded a greeting as she approached. Sienna was about halfway down on that side clustered with her family. Adala set down her PADD a couple of chairs past the Vulcan and took her seat then waited for the meeting to start. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles G and Kathleen) (Mars Facilities – Operations Center – aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek & Medical Officer – Ensign JG Dural Methor – 0837) Keira walked into the her face looking down at her PADD. She had gotten straight to work early in the morning, despite having stayed in the holodeck fighting imaginary beasts until the star date changed over. She was sore enough that she didn’t feel like taking the stairs. She could remember the carpet and tile patterns enough to navigate through the hall and to the lift, with out the need to look up. She started hearing heavy foot falls. Rhythmic. She looked around but saw nothing. ~What the hell?~ “Did you hear that?” she inquired of the receptionist. “No. Hear what?” He replied. She disregarded it this time and continued to make her way to the lift. ~My Romulan ears playing tricks with me.~ She made it into the lift. “Mezzanine.” She ordered. The doors began to shut and she heard someone call out. “Hold the lift!” “Hold.” She told the computer the doors opened again. In stepped a Cardassian in a Starfleet uniform. “Thank you very much.” He said kindly, with a smile. “I don’t believe we’ve met.” “No, we haven’t.” she said flatly. “My name’s Dural. Doctor Dural, and yours.” He said. “Ensign Merek, Engineering.” She said. “Merek.” He recalled the information he saw on a roster, “Don’t be so modest Ensign Merek, you’re the Chief of Engineering, aren’t you?” She shrugged, and corrected him. “Acting Chief.” “Still, elevated above your peers!” He said smiling, “you should be proud.” “Did you just make a turbolift pun?” she said sounding annoyed. “I suppose I did.” He said beaming with pride. “I should tell you about myself.” ~Please don’t, I’ll go another round with the skull beast.~ she thought, but let him continue. “I’m an Epidemiologist in addition to a General Medical Officer, I study communicable diseases, their causes, vectors, and of particular importance how to treat and cure them.” ~Are we even moving? Curse you Loki, I’ll be stuck in here forever!~ She thought panic was creeping on the edge of her consciousness. “Mezzanine.” She ordered again. “Oh, were we not moving? Got lost in conversation, I hadn’t even noticed. I love turbolift conversations.” He said. ~Obviously because people are trapped and can’t get away.~ She screamed at him in her head. As if on cue, just then the lift stopped. The lights went out briefly, replaced by the yellowish glow of emergency lighting. “Fvadt!” {Romulan: Northern Dialect: Damn!} “What’s the problem?” He asked “Lift stopped.” She answered him. “I know that.” He stated. “Then why’d you ask?” she said annoyed again. She banged the side of the lift wall. “No need to get angry.” He said. Just as the panel she hit opened to reveal an Engineering kit. “Sorry.” He apologized for accusing her. She opened the case and took out the tricorder. The warbling hum filled the space. “Looks like the breaks just actuated.” She said, answering his earlier question, “ then the lift motivator shut down to avoid catastrophic malfunction.” “That’s good?” He said, “Can we do anything about that? Can we release the brakes?” “Then do you know what would stop the lift?” She asked he shrugged but didn’t really answer. “Basement.” A surprised look went across the Cardassian’s face and he realized that meant they fell. “I have a plan.” She announced. “Good.” He said getting visibly relieved. “But I need your help.” She said. “My help? I’m a doctor not a repair technician.” He said. “When I signal you, I need you to actuate the emergency release.” She said calmly. “You just said we’ll fall!” he said alarm in his voice. “The mechanism that normally arrests the fall is the lift motivator. If we supply our own and release the brakes manually we can bring us up the remaining floor, and open the door safely.” She explained. “And I suppose you have one lying around in your pocket.” He asked. “No, but I have the next best thing.” She pulls out a type I phaser that was tucked behind her belt. “A hand phaser? What are you going to do with that, shoot me?” He asked. “Don’t think the thought hadn’t crossed my mind, but no. The turbolift motivator is magnetic, it rides between two magnetic strips, one pushing down, the other up. To go one way or the other the motivator strengthens one of the magnets and you get pushed in that direction, the stronger it is the faster you go. With this hand phaser on setting Heat II, I can heat up the “down” magnet making it non-magnetic, leaving the only influence on the lift car the “up” magnet. Once that happens we you release the brake and we get pushed up.” She explained her plan. “I don’t know.” He seemed unsure. She opened two more panels, this time with a tool from the kit, one for the emergency break release, the other a small access panel closer to the floor that revealed the wall of the turbolift shaft. “When I tell you to, grab the handle, twist and pull out.” She said. She made another scan to determine the correct magnetic strip to fire on. “Ready?” He hesitated, “Yes….” She took aim and fired at the left electromagnetic strip. She held a constant beam and the metal took on a reddish orange glow. The car lurched slightly. “Now.” The large Cardassian cringed, closed his eyes as he twisted and pulled hard releasing the brake. The lift car slowly ascended. Keira maintained phaser fire on target for a few minutes. “Activate the brake.” She said. Dural at that moment just realized his eyes were still tightly closed. He opened them and pushed the lever in and twisted the handle counterclockwise. There was a sound of grinding metal, and Keira released the firing stud. “That should be about right.” She said. She closed both panels, and put away her phaser. “What if it’s not?” He inquired. “If we’re on a floor we get off and just take the stairs. If not we do this for a bit longer until the floors line up.” She said. She then opened a panel near the door. A small handle was inside. “Ready?” Dural nodded. She grabbed the handle with both hands and pulled hard. The doors opened revealing the floor they wanted, put the floor was 30 centimeters off of alignment. “Do you mind?” “Oh, no, go ahead.” He said, he didn’t mind having to squeeze through, and waited for the doors to open more. “Put your hands in there and push the doors open!” She said, “I’m just releasing the doors, there’s no power, so no door motor.” “Ah!” he said approaching the door. He placed his hand through the door, palms outward and gave them a shove. The doors opened quickly. The engineer released the handle and the doors were held in place. She picked her PADD off the floor, he did as well. She stepped up and ducked under the top of the elevator exiting. Dural exited the car, executing a similar but more severe maneuver. “That was thrilling.” He said with a smile. “We should do that again.” Keira’s eyes narrowed as she glared into his soul. “No. Never. Again.” She said and walked off to the meeting. (Reply none) (Posted by Todd) (Mars Complex - Operations Center Conference Room - aACSO, Ens(jg) Carson Peters & Eng, Ens(jg) Vex'ahlia Jordaan - 0845) Vex'ahlia had not slept, that was obvious from the way she'd looked. Having tossed and turned for a few hours once she'd settled in to some quarters on the base, she'd then decided it was no good. Then tenuous link she now had with Luma, them being so far apart, was driving her crazy and now she'd experienced what it could be like if they were bonded as closely as they had been, going forward she now realised she needed to put some effort in to make sure if it happened again, she didnt actually go crazy. Not being able to sleep she had spent the night going through the specifications for the device which was to be used to help transfer Luma to the base later on in the day and then trudged down to the computer core to beggin setting the procedure up. It was only when a bewildered Science and Engineering duo of Petty Officers came into the core to find she'd already done most of the job they'd been assigned for the day when she realised their was an Officers meeting within the hour. Vex then ran back to the her Quarters, showered and changed and made her way to the conference room. As she rounded a corner she ran head first into the bases Security Chief and they both fell to the floor. "Whoah" Carson said as he grabbed onto the padd in his hand and got back to his feet fairly quickly. He looked down at the Ensign who had barralled head first into him and realised it was Ensign Jordaan, "Are you ok?" he offered her a hand and helped her back to her feet. "Yes. Sorry. Didn't see you there." she offered whilst dusting the uniform down. "Really, sorry. My heads a bit of a mess." "Don't worry about it," he replied. "No harm, no foul." almost out of habit he pushed a smile on to his face to reassure her. "Are you heading to the meeting?" his arm pointed out towards the corridor. "Yes." she nodded and they began walking. The silence between them was strange, Carson had no problem with it, it was normally a tactic he used in Interrogations to put the person he was interviewing at unease, but Vex seemed equally comfortable not speaking. As they walked Carson kept glancing sideways, "You sure you're OK? You look, unwell." A smile crept onto Vex's face, "What a lovely thing to say." she frowned. "My turn to apologise," Carson offered. "I didn't mean it in an offensive way, more a concerned way. Is everything going well with Luma?" He wondered whether the transfer from the ship to the base had somehow gone poorly. "If you need to know, I spent all last night prepping for her movement. I've not slept. Which is probably why I look so horrific." she emphasised the last word. Carson nodded and they want back to the silence, they turned the next corner and were presented with the odd site of Ensign Merek climbing out of what looked like a broken elevator. Too far away to offer much help, they both kept walking forward to see the Cardassian Dr. Dural follow her out, they had a brief interaction and then Engineering Chief stormed off down the corridor. He wondered whether the reason Keira was in such a poor mood was because she'd heard the rumors going around the base about Ravok & Taya last night. Taya hadn't been in her office this morning, so Carson had been unable to warn/ask her about the situation. Carson & Vex looked at each other, Vex sighed and Carson shrugged his shoulders. They continued in silence to the Conference Room, Vex didn't need to look around the room, as they'd gotten closer she realised she could communicate far more clearly with Luma than before. Sekal was already in the room with the crystal and she made a beeline to be as close to the Vulcan as was possible with the seating arrangements. Carson let her go, something had clearly troubled her. He went and sat down in the nearest empty seat, not bothing too much about where it was. (reply any) (posted by Calvin Capps) (Mars Facilities- Science Annex- Floor 1, Lab 3 Office- aACSO(R)- Ensign (jg) Sekal- 0800) He had gotten up early to check on the progress of the technical staff on integrating the change to the computer core Luma required. It was much like the setup on the Mystique with three standoffs like claws which would hold the crystal, they had been shaped and tacked to the top of the main core overnight. Once the were fully welded and the wedge shaped slot cut into it then Luma would transfer her life force. Had they another one of these crystals Sekal would have no issue with leaving it in place. Until they had a replacement however it would have to remain a temporary "body" for her. Once they had more he would allow her to choose her preferred home. The upcoming meeting had made the time of the departmental meeting uncertain therefore he sent out a message to the senior science officers that a change had been made. The departmental meeting would now be held at 1400. Having sent that out he began making preparations for the general meeting. (Mars Facilities - Operations Centre Conference Room – aACSO(R)- Ensign (jg) Sekal- 0848) The Vulcan walked into the conference room and took the same seat at the table as last time. There was a monitor there but he had no plans to use it. Since Luma now had a functional mind bondmate and the crystal was on his person there would be no need for a comm channel. He set the toolkit down and opened it then set back to wait for the meeting to begin. Her morning handover to Alpha Shift had become more involved as they all adjusted to the changing scope of their duties. The operation of a fixed base was much different to a starship mid-mission, never mind the considerations of a growing base and one expected to serve multiple visiting ships as needed. After a night spent unlearning much of the foundation and routine from the Mystique, which had only been developed very recently, M'Rurrh was ready to hear what the Admiral had to say before some much-needed sleep. She stretched her neck as she moved over to the replicator, and ordered a strong coffee which she picked up from the dispenser. Stepping over to the large table, she nodded a greeting to the New Caitian Ensign who was already seated. (Reply Bracken) (Posted by MCD) (Mars Facilities - Operations Centre Conference Room – aACSO- Ensign (jg) Sienna Williams-Verin- 0852) It had been about two weeks since her Imzadi had nearly died, and they had begun the long, slow trip back to Mars from Trill. She had worked via subspace link in the long trip home with Betazed to secure enough of the herbal remedy to help the Trill. The Betazoids were eager to be helpful, they were a peaceful people who longed to make the universe a better place. It was not until the more recent decades that Betazed had even had a sufficient defense force to protect the planet and it's colonies. She had spent literally every moment that she could spare with Ailynn and eventually meeting Ashlyn who it seemed that her twin found intriguing. It bothered Sy a bit but she also was so pleased that Trip was taking it slow with her, and not rushing ahead. She knew that her relationship with Lynn bothered Trip too, so the feeling was mutual. It was not until Lynn had secured Trip to literally pick Sy up and toss her out of their shared quarters so Lynn could have some time to herself that Sy had gotten the message. Lynn was getting better, she was enough of herself to not really need Sy as much. Would Lynn's feelings change? Sy wanted to talk to her Mother about everything that was happening but she KNEW that as soon as Sophie found out, Sophie would be talking with Aimee and Dale and then the women would show up on Mars and demand to mother their girls. Dad joked that Sophie would show up in uniform, cowgirl boots, hat and phaser rifle to defend her children, all of her children including the adopted ones, and Sophie was a phenomenal force which was why she was in Special Operations. Her Mother had a lot of power and enjoyed her job greatly. She would never become an Admiral, but she was happiest as a Captain working at SFHQ. Sy really was tired. She had taken the day before to drop Kenna off in the shared quarters with Trip, and leave her luggage. She had taken care of a lot of accumulated paperwork in her office for the rest of the day. She was very, very tired. She wanted to sleep for 24 hours. Her skin was itching and she knew that was a sign that her meds were not quite right. She was going to have to skedaddle to Sickbay then to the science meeting that Sekal had scheduled. She wished he had asked, but she knew that he was used to being in charge and that she was much better at the paperwork than he was. They had very different strengths and did usually work well together. He even seemed to understand that she needed that time with Ailynn while she was ill and had silently picked up her responsibilities to let her stay. She had not thanked him in words, instead leaving a small box of cat toys on his office desk. Slipping into her seat, Sienna realized that it was the same seat she had taken the last time she had been here. She began to pour coffee for herself mixing it, then she poured water with fruit for her brother and, not knowing what Lynn would want, Sy waited. But she would be getting Lynn's drink too. Sy sipped her coffee and waited for her family to join her. For once she was on time. There was no microphone, so the Admiral had to project his voice, "Thank you all, apologies for the sudden change of venue. it wasn't intentioned but, as often the case in the service of the Federation, circumstances change." "Firstly, I want to debrief you all a little more on the mission to Trill; President Zon has asked me to pass on his thanks to you all. He nodded at them, "I present, your department leaders.", and paused for a moment before nodding at them that it was to head off the raised platform and back to the rest of the assembled officers. Everyone was still at attention and Remae suspected it was taking a toll, "Thanks all, you can now stand at ease for now.", he said and gave the assembled officers a chance to relax, "Let's continue. in prior conversation with your heads of department, I have received recommendations for promotions from with each department and on this occasion, I take it on myself to approve those promotions too. However, in the future, these will become the responsibility of those heads.", he said and picked up another PADD. (Reply from Boone, Matrix) Remae waited for a moment, took a sip of water and was very aware of the time that was passing but he wanted to be fair to all and continued. "For Science, Ensigns JG Alyl and Michaels are hereby promoted to Ensign Senior Grade.", he once again laid out the plans of the Science department heads and then, as each of them took their new pips, Remae mentioned the department changes, "Ensign Alyl, you are to become a specialist in Research, as Science Officer (Research) and Ensign Michaels, you are to be a general Science Officer. Also Ensign V'qsha. you are also to be a specialist in Research.", he said looking into the crowd to the new Ensign. (Reply from Alyl, Michaels, V'qsha) "Thank you.", he said and then paused for a moment, "Finally, Flight OPS on Mars, Lt Williams has informed me his recommendations, so, Ensigns JG Shara and Williams, you are hereby promoted to Ensign Senior Grade.", he said and he continued with his final set of congratulations and the announced the department changes, "Ensign Shara, you are to become acting Flight Squadron Executive Officer (aFSXO) and Ensign Williams, acting Flight Squadron Second Officer (aFS2O).", he said and then, there was one final piece of information. The promotions and department changes were the biggest he's ever overseen directly were finished and it would be the last time he would arrange the departments in such a way, it would be up the fresh Department Heads now to manage their departments, and the Admiral would now be able to rely on his new Lieutenants to help him in command. "We have other department changes while we are on ship-duty but they can wait. also, I've received award recommendations but they can also wait to another time.", he said and then he stepped sideways. he was about to call the group back to attention when a puffing Billy ran up to him and gave him another PADD. Confused but realising it must be important, Remae looked at the PADD for a moment. he scanned it and then looked again at the order, it read the same as the first time. He looked up to see Admiral Jana Bell walking onto the stage, she just appeared without word or comment and she came to rest at his side, she looked extremely unhappy. Remae was conscious of the entire company of the crew watching them in silence, Jana nodded to Billy and he read the contents of the PADD to the ensembled officers. (Reply from ALL) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Mars Base, Mess Hall, SPC Medical Yeoman CPO Kathy Miller, 0915) Kathy was sitting alone, eating oatmeal with blueberries and drinking coffee. It was the first full day since the Mystique returned from Trill, so she expected things to be very busy. She had gone in at 0600 and intended to work a double. The senior ensigns were in a meeting with Admiral Remae. so she had taken a quick break. She learned a long time ago, that in medical, you always took advantage of some quiet time, as you never knew when, or if, it would happen. Kathy watched as Yeoman Carol Martin from operations got a tray. When she saw Kathy, she hurried over and plopped into the empty chair across from her. "Good morning," said Kathy. Carol looked around and leaned close. She spoke in a quiet voice. "Have you heard the latest?" Kathy frowned. Carol was 20 and on her first assignment from yeoman training. She was good at her work, but she had the habit of trying to be in the know of anything and everything happening on the base. "You know you shouldn't believe anything you hear, right?" said Kathy. "Yeah, yeah, but this time it's a big one." Carol could barely contain herself. "Fine. What have you heard?" said Kathy, realizing she wasn't getting out of this. "It's about Ensign Taya. The Andorian. Last night, Ensign Ravok was in her quarters for two hours!" Kathy frowned. "Who told you that?" "Everyone knows," said Carol. "I'm surprised you don't. It's all over the base. Around midnight, they were in each others' arms. They went straight to her room." "If they were together, and that's if, it's their business and not yours," said Kathy. "You know how things get blown out of proportion." Carol harrumphed. "Someone from security saw them. They're a reliable source of information." Kathy shook her head. "Gossip like this can ruin someone's reputation. You really need to stop doing this." She looked at the time. "I need to get back." "But you haven't finished your oatmeal." "I'll take it to go." Kathy grabbed her tray and got up. "Please be careful." As she walked away, she muttered under her breath. "Children." (reply none) (posted by Rob Brown) (Mars Facility - Gym - CSRD, Lt. "acting Assistant Chief Science Officer (Research), Ensign JG Sekal is hereby promoted to Lieutenant JG Sekal and is ordered to take up the new role of Chief of Scientific Research and Development." The Admiral looked up from his PADD as Sekal handed the toolkit containing the crystal and Luma'Lenai to Vex who was standing beside him to remain in close proximity to Luma. There was no safer place for the Lenai in his estimation outside of his own hands. He then walked with long, easy strides to the podium to face the Admiral. Once there Admiral Remae pinned a new "full" pip to his collar beside the black "empty" pip and handed him a PADD then extended his hand. "Congratulations, Lieutenant.". Sekal quirked and eyebrow but extended his own hand as he set his mental defenses to their maximum. The handshake was fortunately short. Having received his new rank and orders he moved behind the Admiral to stand beside "Trip" Williams after giving him a nod of greeting and whispered, "Congratulations are in order Lieutenant." (Reply: Trip iyw) The rest of the department heads were called and came forward with Sekal nodding to each of them in turn as they took their place behind the Admiral including Sienna Williams-Verin who now headed general sciences. Following that more promotions were given and the departments reorganized with Stennin and Alyl joining him in Research and development as he had already discussed with Ktell. He also mentioned the trip to HQ for the next day and he was glad that HQ was showing their gratitude for what they had achieved. He had decided not to go to that one as showing up to HQ as the person who caused a diplomatic incident was probably not a good idea. He listened to the Admiral list the promotions. He was happy that for Flight OPS Trip got promoted to Lieutenant and was now the Squadron commanding officer. He really hoped that he would give Trip less headaches then he had recently. The Admiral confirmed promotion to Sekal to Lieutenant and then the department heads as well as small changed with in each of the departments. He had gotten through all the others and Ire was wondering of Flight would get promotions as Ravok deserved to get one. "Finally, Flight OPS on Mars, Lt Williams has informed me his recommendations, so, Ensigns JG Shara….” ~Yes good for Ravok full Ensign cool~ and Williams, you are hereby promoted to Ensign Senior Grade." ~What me too….thank you Trip~ "Ensign Shara, you are to become acting Flight Squadron Executive Officer and Ensign Williams, acting Flight Squadron Second Officer.", ~Good plan to have Ravok he would have been my chose too, but wow I am now Second Officer of the Squadron~ He followed Ravok up to get his pin. “Thank you, Sir.” He then moved over to Ravok and then back to where he could hide back in the crowd. As he returned to his place in the crowd, he saw Billy come hurriedly across the stage and hand the Admiral a PADD. ~He does not look happy~ After a moment a Female Admiral he did not know entered the stage as well and stood by the Admiral. ~No, this not good~ He was about to ask the others when Billy stepped forward and began to read the contents of the PADD. The room had been getting full and Carson privately wondered why the Admiral had called such a large meeting. He'd followed the crowd through, with lots, of "Sorry's", "No, you first's" involved and eventually the crowd settled around a small stage upon which the Admiral stood. Admiral Remae began by proving a small debrief on the mission to Trill, the construction of the Starbase was intriguing and it seemed like Starfleet was finally heading in the right direction again. He mentioned about the shuttle back to Earth in the morning for those who would be accompanying him, Carson was yet to check whether he'd made that list and created a mental note to double check after the meeting. There was a short pause and then the Admiral launched into another speech, one that perhaps many in the room weren't expecting. As he called for "Attention to Orders." Carson snapped to attention as did everyone else in the room. If he hadn't seen it hundreds of times in the few years he'd been apart of Starfleet and in the Academy, it would have been an impressive sight to behold. The Admiral began handing our promotions to those who deserved them. First came Trip and then Sekal, both promoted to Lieutenant and to full Section Chiefs of their relevant departments. Carson applauded enthusiastically for both promotions, he'd worth aside both of them and they were both incredibly talented. The Doctor, Ensign Bracken was next in line for a promotion, this time to Ensign Senior Grade and the same title bump the previous two had received, full Chief of the Medical Department. "acting Assistant Chief Security Officer, Ensign Carson Peters is hereby promoted to Ensign SG Carson Peters and is ordered to take up the role of Chief Security Officer." Carson smiled and began moving through the crowd so he could make it up onto the stage. He wasn't sure he'd done enough really to expect the promotion to Section Chief, but he'd take it and run with it. The promotion to Ensign Senior Grade was also a welcome addition, he'd been in-line for the promotion over a year ago until the incident happened and he'd had to take time off. Once he'd approached he allowed the Admiral to replace the pip on his collar whilst he said, "Congratulations Chief" and then shook his hand vigerously, "Thank-you, Sir. This means the world." Carson said, unexpectedly emotional. The Admiral once again said, "Congratulations," and then Carson moved off to the side to stand next to the three previous recipients of promotion, a padd in his hand with this newly acquired orders and title included. The meeting continued from there with Ensigns William-Verin & Merek receiving the same promotions, this officially put Merek in charge of both Engineering of the base, but also the ship building which included the creation of the new Starbase which had previously been mentioned. The Admiral was placing a lot of faith in his Ensign's. The next promotion caught Carson off-guard. He watched as the Intelligence Agent, Ensign Foxglove was handed a promotion to Chief of Intelligence. Carson saw this as a big move by the Admiral, he was saying here and now that Intelligence would have a big part to play in their future. Admiral Remae then called for everyone to relax, he then continued on with a bunch of departmental changes which included a large portion of the people here. Carson kept an eye on Taya, he knew what was coming after the Admiral had asked for recommendations- "Department changes, as per Ensign Peters: Ensign Taya to take on Martian Tactical Duties in the role of Acting Assistant Chief Tactical Officer (aACTO). Congratulations, Ensign.", said the Admiral. (Reply Taya) Once all the department changes had been process the Admiral said, "We have other department changes while we are on ship-duty but they can wait. also, I've received award recommendations but they can also wait to another time.", Just then, the admirals aide ran towards him with a padd outstretched. The Admiral read the information and then re-read it, the crowd around him becoming a little restless. "For Science, Ensign JG Michaels are hereby promoted to Ensign Senior Grade." She was startled to hear her name among those in her department and moved forward to recieve her new pips. Adala stood at attention as the new pips were attached to her collar. "Ensign Michaels, you are to be a general Science Officer." She saw how packed it had become with all the senior staff of the base crowded in one spot. It was something Jaelle cared little for and wanted nothing to do with. So she stayed outside of the madness and waited for the Admiral knowing that a change of venue would be in order if one wanted to have kind of control of the meeting to take place. It didn't take long before the Adrmial made his appearance and the venue was changed to a nearby gymnasium. She followed and got lost in the crowd as the group moved to the more suitable location. She paid attention as the Admiral got on stage and called the group to attention. She nodded, smiled, and applauded has other officer were promoted and given control over operational sections. She was surprised when her name was called to join those ranks because of the nature of the role she had been cast into. People were distrustful and wary of intelligence. But casting her as the new CIO gave legitimacy to her operation and those that would come to serve under her. It was a bold step. Taking her new charge and rank. She shook the Adrmial's hand as she spoke softly that he needed to speak with her. She nodded in acceptance of his order. The meeting continued with more surprises but none more unexpected as a second Adrmial taking to the stage it seemed that changes were taking place all around the base. Which was to be expected as the base became more organized, with more staff the need for a diverse staff was going to be needed. Where things went from here was anyone's guess. The meeting continued though its paces until they were dismissed and the crowd broke up. Jaelle stayed waiting her turn with the old Adrmial now Captain. "You wished to talk to me sir." Smiling to the person next to her, Erin was about to make a comment when the Admiral spoke again, "For Medical, Ensigns JG Ariel Trei, Quinna Solace and Erin Cortez are promoted to Ensign Senior Grade.", he said. Erin's eyes grew wide and she fought hard to keep the look of shock off her face as she walked up and received her new pips. "Thankyou, Sir." She replied as she stepped to the side. As people got up and headed out, she made sure she was the last one in line. When they assembled in the new location, she stood in the back, hiding behind Ensign Sekal because he was so big. The admiral talked about Trill, the new starbase, and how things would be moving forward. After that came promotions. Taya was happy for everyone promoted, though she didn't openly react. When Carson was called up, she smiled and was proud. Things continued until Admiral Remae said something that caught her off guard. "For Tactical and Security (on Mars), Ensigns JG Taya and Saarsgard are promoted to Ensign Senior Grade." Taya stood still for a few moments. How could she stand in front of everyone? Saarsgard was already heading up, so she had to move as well. Moving quickly, her eyes facing the floor, she went up the steps. As Remae gave her a new pip, she did her best to not look directly at him. She didn't want him to see her bloodshot eyes. After thanking Remae, she wanted to get off the stage, but there was more. "Department changes, as per Ensign Peters: Ensign Taya to take on Martian Tactical Duties in the role of Acting Assistant Chief Tactical Officer (aACTO). Congratulations, Ensign." Taya smiled, still not looking directly at Remae. Thanking him again, she rushed back to her place in the back row. When the festivities ended, another admiral walked onto the stage. Taya recognized that it was Admiral Bell. Taya was curious, but she was certain Bell was there to see Remae and to view the ceremony. Her head was aching again, so she wanted this to conclude so she could sit down. That wasn't to be, as Bell nodded to Remae's aid, who began reading from a PADD. She had watched her mother, and both Grandmothers, play Fleet politics at the highest levels. She had grown up next door to Trip and Sienna, who, she knew, had watched the same thing. Remae was first to the gym and quickly, he headed for the small stage that was there. A few NCOs took one looked at the assembled mass of Ensigns coming in, they cleared out quickly. It was standing room only, but as each Ensign approached the stage, they quieted down to listen to their Admiral. There was no microphone, so the Admiral had to project his voice, "Thank you all, apologies for the sudden change of venue. it wasn't intentioned but, asoften the case in the service of the Federation, circumstances change." "Firstly, I want to debrief you all a little more on the mission to Trill; President Zon has asked me to pass on his thanks to you all. Trill has become a protectorate of the Federation, so we're going to look after them and as part of that arrangement, we're going to assist in the construction of a new Starbase, which is actually the first construction of its kind in many years. We're going to lead this project and I look to our Engineers led by Ensign Merek to design and assist in the construction of this base, we've tentatively named Starbase Freedom.", he said and then he looked at his notes. "Thanks to all who have shown interest in the trip to Earth; it seems that HQ want to throw a shindig for us as thanks for our successful mission to Trill, attendance is not compulsory but, for those going, it will be Dress Uniform. Shuttle, which I've heard will be called the 'Party Bus', will leave tomorrow at 6pm.", he said smiling and then moved onto his next topic. "In my capacity as your Commanding Officer, a few events come along that inspire me to continue to led such a dedicated, talented and extraordinary group of people, it could be a wedding, commissioning of a new ship or department or, as today, a promotion ceremony.", he said and then, barked an order to his group, "Attention to Orders.", he said, and as a group, everyone came to smart attention. It was automatic, it was drilled into them, literally, at the Academy. Remae looked over his group. He read from the PADD: "The Secretary of Starfleet has reposed special confidence in the fidelity, abilities and leadership potential of the following members of the Mars Defence Perimeter and associated facilities. As each name is called, you are to take up your new rank and, if applicable, new departmental responsibilities. Signed Remae Ktell, Admiral, Mars Commanding." "acting Assistant Chief Medical Officer, Ensign JG Ailynn Bracken is hereby promoted to Ensign SG Ailynn Bracken and is ordered to take up the role of Chief Medical Officer.", he said and then, the Admiral waited for the new CMO to approach the stage, receive their promotion pips and orders to assume, in an official capacity, her new position of responsibility. The shock must have been palpable. This was not something that she’d expected to be happening for a year at least. Standing up, she strode toward the Admiral, pulling herself up to her full height, proud. The worry would set in later. Chief Medical Officer on a base such as this was not an easy gig, thousands of lives now sat in her palms. As the Doctor approached, Remae pinned the new pips to the Ensign (Sg) and PADD with their new orders. Extending his hand, Remae said, "Congratulations Doctor Bracken." "Thanks all, you can now stand at ease for now.", he said "Let's continue. in prior conversation with your heads of department, I have received recommendations for promotions from with each department and on this occasion, I take it on myself to approve those promotions too. However, in the future, these will become the responsibility of those heads.", he said and picked up another PADD. "For Medical, Ensigns JG Ariel Trei, Quinna Solace and Erin Cortez are promoted to Ensign Senior Grade.", he said, and as each came up for their pips, Remae spoke to each and offered congratulations and messages of encouragement. Ailynn clapped her hands, knowing that those under her had earned everything and more. "Additionally, Lt Bracken informs me of the department changes, Ensign Cortez becomes Assistant Chief Medical Officer (Counsellor), ACMO (Counsellor) and Ensign Solace's role is to become acting Assistant Chief Medical Officer also within the sphere of Counselling, aACMO (Counsellor). He shook the Admiral's hand, and then was caught off guard again when Admiral Remae named him Acting Assistant Structural Engineering Officer. "Thank you sir," was all he replied. He allowed his mind to wonder for a moment, and thought if he would be allowed to design a new and enlarged Conference Room. A few more people were after Boone, but the most surprising news of all happened after all of the celebrations, and the news wasn't a celebration at all. He felt he had worked as hard if not harder than some of those who had received promotions, yet he was still an Ensign Junior Grade. It would have been easy to let the that eat at him, especially given that is cousin had received a double promotion. Still Billy took a deep breath and reminded himself that a lot of it probably had to with academics. Those that had been promoted had been higher in rank academically at the academy. The key example of this were the fact that Sekal and Trip were the valedictorian and salutatorian of the graduating class of 2444. Quick promotions don't fall to the guy who graduated near the middle of his class. Still he would do his best to prove himself worthy to be promoted in the next round. If not he could always fall to plan B, move to the Andes Mountain range and raise llamas. Before he could even ponder what he might name his hypothetical llamas when the PADD he was carrying received a ping. Looking it over his jaw almost dropped. ~Oh no, oh no. The Admiral is not going to like this.~ He ran over and gave the contents to the Admiral. Billy tried his best not to look at the scene unfolding with the Admiral and his wife. It was awkward enough what the orders had said and he didn't need to be an empath to feel the tension and awkwardness between the two. It was at that moment Jana nodded at his direction to read the contents of the PADD. She had been making comments to Luma and discussing with her every promotion that passed, whether they thought it deserving or not. Just being able to connect with her as easily as it had been on the Mystique was a blessing whilst they were this close. (Reply Luma iyw) As the meeting came to a close, Vex reminded herself that she really need to ingratiate herself to the-now official- Chief of Engineering. They'd had passing conversation whilst on the Mystique, but since Vex had, had very little time to actually work within the department since receiving her orders around Luma, there was much more building to be done around that relationship. Infact last night, had been the first night she'd spent sleeping on the Mars base and once Luma was situated in the Mars core, there would be nothing stopping her going about regular duties, with the caveat that she may be needed to sort some form of mis-communication between Luma and anyone else at any given moment. As she refocused and began scanning the new Section Chiefs, she noticed that the Security Chief Carson, who'd she'd bumped into earlier seemed to have taken a step forward, as if he'd noticed someone who wasn't expected and was taking a defensive stance. At that moment, Carson had noticed an Admiral he didn't recognise enter the gymnasium and boy, she did not look happy. He was sure that a Starfleet Admiral meant no harm, but her posture alarmed him unnecessarily and he realised he'd taken a step forward and had his hand hovering around about his holster. The Admiral had taken the padd handed to him by his aide- Trip's cousin, Billy and read it for a longer period of time than it felt was needed. ::What's going on?:: Vex asked Luma. She didn't expect the entity to know, but she needed to verbalise her confusion without actually saying it outloud. (Reply Luma iyw) From his vantage point, Carson saw the female Admiral- which now he came to think on it, seemed familiar to him, but he still couldn't place her- nodded to Billy who then read aloud from the padd Admiral Remae had handed back to him. Carson took a step back and began to mask the shock which he was sure had been present on his face as he could see it in those around and in front of him. He looked back and forth from the Admiral- no, Captain and- now that he knew who she was, his wife Admiral Bell and waited for her to speak. ~Why would they demote him? (Jg) Sekal - 0948) Standing beside Ensign Jordaan with his hands cupped at the small of his back and unarmed the Vulcan heard the rising commotion from one section of the crowd of officers before he saw it. What appeared to be a very downcast Admiral's aide appeared and mounted the podium. The Admiral himself looked shocked and confused by what had appeared in his field of view and out of the corner of his vision he saw a number taking aggressive postures. As there was no phaser fire or sound of a scuffle yet he remained balanced lightly on the balls of his feet in the same posture. Outwardly it looked relaxed and unprepared but Saleke had taught his son how to use it to his advantage in case of hostilities, he could snap into an offensive/defensive posture or be on the move quickly. "Billy" Williams' voice was not overly loud but reached his hearing easily. The contents of the PADD were formal and detailed denoting Admiral Remae had been reduced in rank and replaced as acting head of the Mars project. This elicited a raised eyebrow. Such changes in command according to his understanding were rare though they did occur in extreme circumstances. The only conjecture would be what had brought this circumstance into being. At this early point he had no basis upon which to formulate an hypothesis therefore refrained from taking guesses. The emotional beings around him registered largely confusion or anger while he stood to his full height unmoved. Eventually a female in Admiral's uniform entered his sight range and mounted the platform and Sekal awaited new orders to be forthcoming. With a change in command it was only logical that current standing orders might be changed as well. On her collar she had the rank pins of a Master Chief Petty Officer which was the only rank that she had actually earned during her training rather than the ones that she had to assume legends when going undercover. She asked looking over Faust shoulder the the console before her. (Reply Faust) "I was able to get a clear picture of the man who abducted you we can cross reference his face with the intelligence database to see if anything comes up." Which is all good and fine but I don't want her here. Access to the intelligence computer core will be restricted. Only the deep space sensor net will be made accessible to the rest of the base. She didn’t know why they had put this new flag officer in charge of Mars, Admiral, correction Captain Remae had, in her eyes done nothing wrong. He had come back from a successful mission, more so in that he had brought two separate cultures, two worlds back to the negotiating table, and no amount of explanation would make her think otherwise. His subsequent demotion, now that she understood. You had a number of officers and crew totaling in at least the hundreds if not the thousands, accustomed to his leadership style, probably even loyal. To place this new Admiral in charge there had to be no question of who was senior. They could have dropped him down to Commodore, and still made the same point, but the brass is nothing if not ostentatious. "Sir," M'Rurrh said, "I would like to request a transfer to the new Operations department." The Caitian had somehow managed to sneak, no, sneak is not the right word, that shows intent. Regardless, she had managed to make it into the office and Keira had not detected her, until she spoke. ~That was quick.~ The positions hadn’t even been up a full 24 hours and she had a transfer request. “Ah, Ensign M’Rurrh, I noticed that too.” The Romulan said about the new positions available on the roles, and pulled a blue isolinear chip from her neatly arranged storage rack, and inserted it in her PADD as she picked it up off the table. As she pulled up the Starfleet form 4187, Request for Personnel Action, she asked already knowing the answer. “You’re sure this is what you want?” (Reply M’Rurrh) “Fair enough.” She said filling out the particulars of the request. Soon she passed the PADD to the Caitian. “If all the information is correct, thumb print to sign.” (Reply M’Rurrh) Receiving the PADD back she gave it one final look over and pressed her own thumb print to the reader, indicating that she endorsed the request. “Next stop, Admiral…. sorry, Captain Remae.” She said handing the whole PADD back to the Caitian. “I’ll be putting out a meeting schedule for later today, you’ll get it. You are of course still welcome to attend, but feel free to ignore it. It’s not likely but if the transfer is denied, I can always back brief you so you don’t miss anything.” (Reply M’Rurrh) “Absolutely, good luck. See you around.” She said with a smile. The notification from the prison was still weighing heavily on her mind. Ailynn had swung past the counselling suites, looking to pass on her congratulations to everyone, especially… “Erin?” She’d tapped on the open door, but it had gone unheard. She continued, she’d always been good at reading people. “Now...that is not a face that I expected to see quite so pensive. Perils of Command hun?” Looking up, Erin sighed, "it's not that… " beckoning her inside, Erin closed the door behind Ailynn and said, "How much do you know about my past?" Ailynn nodded gently as she sat down, choosing the couch and motioning to the seat next to her. “Only what you told me, you know after the interview?” There was a niggle in her mind, cursing her slowness, she pulled off her commbadge and rank pip and placed them on Erin’s desk. “Better?” Taking a seat next her, Erin took a breath, "The… ex. The one who gave me the scar on my shoulder… when I heard about the party bus going to earth, it got me thinking… I need to put ghosts to bed… so… I.. " “Calm down honey.” Ailynn’s voice was soft, almost a whisper. “I’m here. Calm down. It’s okay. What did you do sweetie?” "I … I made a request with the penal colony and.. they granted it. Tomorrow morning, I face my demons. Figuratively speaking." “Erin…” For a moment she wished that she’d done even more extra units. Counselling was not her forte. “Erin...I see why...but are you sure?” "That's a loaded question. In some ways, yes. I need to do this. I can't keep living in this shadow, this state of almost perpetual fear. But in others, no. Am I ready to face the man that broke me, figuratively and physically? Am i ready to look at a face that has haunted my dreams for nearly seven years? Ailynn, i don't know. All i know is that, because of what he did, what he made me into, I nearly wrecked something that should be the best thing in my life." Ailynn nodded carefully, a gentle, neutral expression on her face, hopefully inviting, open to talk. Deciding that she was hopeless at that, she just flipped over, and let her heart speak and act for her. “You’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own issues, but nothing like you have. If you’re sure...I’ll be right behind you every step of the way…” "I know. " She shrugged. “Not going to lie, I didn’t want to go back to Earth, not at the moment, it’s not my place. But for you? I’m your right hand girl.” Erin closed her eyes and drew a deep breath. Opening them, she looked at her friend, her boss, "i cannot honestly say what that means to me. However, this is something i need to do myself. I can't move forward, i can't be the person i should be, the person i need to be, the person who …. Damn it. The person who Billy deserves to be with if i don't do this. That son of a …. He has already taken so much from me. I'll be damned if he ruins this for me. I need to see him. I need to look him in the eyes and tell him that he tried to break me down and, in the end, it didn't work. " Ailynn smiled, “That’s my girl.” she squeezed gently with her cool, delicate, surgeons hands. Smiling softly back, Erin nodded. “Look. I have no intention of speaking to a President. I’ve met Admirals by the dozen, and seen a lot of them drunk at mums. But you want me...with you...on Earth? I’m there baby. Get me?” "I do. I was planning on going to… before the party bus leaves. In and out. I don't want or need to spend anymore time there at the prison then I need to." “Well...that’s sorted. You got me as a travelling buddy.” As Ailynn laughed, her nose curled up slightly, putting wrinkles where there weren’t normally any. No one had ever told her it was her true smile of happiness. “You’re just lucky I always have a fast bag packed....Assistant Chief…” She wiggled her head teasingly. Smiling, Erin nodded and laughed a little, " I still think that's an almighty prank. I don't deserve it." Ailynn laughed gently, “you calling my medical judgement into question there Ms Cortez?” She raised an eyebrow, in mock insult. "No…. That's…. I just.. " biting her lip, Erin smiled. "I have a hard time believing in myself. Just like you have a hard time slowing down. " Ailynn laughed gently "you know me a bit too well." She shrugged, admitting her fault. "You forget, I know. I led the crew evaluations, although I doubt anything will ever come from it." Ailynn stood up and stretched, and picked up her commbadge and rank pip and refixed them. "Let me know if you need me, about anything." She squeezed Erin's shoulder gently "I might be your boss but I'm also your friend. Smiling, Erin looked up at her, "I know. He had spent a lot of time here rousting drunks and troublemakers and they served good bar food and iced tea which currently sat almost untouched before him at his table in the corner. As soon as he seated himself he had turned on the PADD and started nibbling on his beef, bean and cheese nachos as he booted up the Master investigation file. This file was a day by day, hour by hour summary of the case pertaining to the investigation into the transmission which was circumstantially tied to the medic. It included surveillance notes and observations along with the negligible amount of personal deductions by those assigned to it. Of the most interest though was the summary of participants which was logged at the very top which he went back to after skimming. As his eyes followed his right index finger down the list he gave a start then went back to the beginning before reading through completely followed by another look. What he saw sent an involuntary chill down his spine followed by cold beads of sweat that broke out upon his forehead. He quickly wiped them away with a sleeve. It wasn't because of the hot sauce he had drizzled on the nachos either! ~Taya transferred out to tactical, Flagg after the Mystique left, Darpeg during the mission. Tamblyn transferred to Operations just before we left. Rosen kidnapped before we returned.~ Every single officer assigned to it was gone including two other Petty Officers, one first class and another second class like himself. Four lower ranking security personnel remained on surveillance working twelve hours on, twelve hours off but they were the grunts, the eyes on site. He suppressed a shudder. He had been assigned to what looked to be a kiss of death, a monkey's paw, the black hole of a sewer for a chosen career. His face lost its color and he leaned back in the chair, his appetite had deserted him but the cold swallow of unsweetened tea wet his suddenly dry mouth. "Geez and crap, what have I gotten myself into? And here I thought I was doing a good job." His voice had been little more than a murmur and wouldn't have traveled far in the bar. He couldn't very well walk up to Chief Peters and tell him. "Thank you very much sir but this case is not to my liking." He had been assigned to it, was stuck with it. If he tried to back out at this early stage it would follow and humiliate him for the rest of his life. "I've got to figure out a way to stick." What were his options? To use an alias in the report? That was no good, he was already associated with the case. He had been logged and posted to it. Skyles knew among others. This set his mind on an obvious tangent. If this case was being watched by someone who didn't want it followed up on then who might that be? Was it Skyles? As PO 1st class and security admin he was in a perfect position to monitor the case. He had also made a threat and a veiled warning. ~This is way out of your league.~ Had Skyles been trying to warn him off or alert him to danger? He smiled broadly at the metaphor. "Not like the Chief would actually do that but it's been chewing up and spitting investigators out left and right." What I want out of it is closure so I can…" she blushed slightly and looked away. “If you feel like this is the only way for you to get closure, then I think it is a good idea. But just be careful. Ok. All it took was one reporter showing you a video of him and you became an absolute mess. You have to weigh the benefits here. If this is what you need to close the chapter, then I think this is a great idea. She activated it and read its contents. A new nurse. Unsure if he wanted to speak with the head nurse or the new CMO, Kathy decided to go right to the top. She tapped a comm console on her desk. "Doctor Bracken, this is Kathy at the front desk. We have another arrival." She handed the PADD back to McDonald. "You can have a seat. Doctor Bracken will be with you shortly." (reply Bracken, McDonald, any) (posted by Rob Brown) (Mars Base - Medical Centre - Nurse – Ewan McDonald 1407) Ewan handed over his PADD to the Yeoman Miller and waited for her reply. "Doctor Bracken, this is Kathy at the front desk. We have another arrival." "You can have a seat. Doctor Bracken will be with you shortly." “Thanks, you very much.” He moved over to a chair and took a seat. He had worked with colleagues who were ex-star fleet as well as from the Naval Patrol and other Federation organisations as well as a few that were not. The Albatross Organisation took people who were good at their job as well as being able to cope with rapidly changing situations. His last deployment with a surgical team was to Mundra 4 where the planet had, had continent spanning earthquakes and eruptions. They had arrived as fast as their ships would deploy and send teams across the effected area which his had been one of them. They had deployed in what had been a city but was now a makeshift refugee camp. With in two hours of landing they had set up their shelters, unpacked their equipment and began working. With the help of local staff that had arrived to help they had to spent long time hours the operating theatre putting the patients back together. There had been more touch and go moments then he would have liked to remember but slowly their wins had outstretched their failures as the second and third waves of teams arrived. He paused from his mental wandering as some one approached. (Reply Bracken, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Mars Base - Medical Centre – CMO Ens(sg) Ailynn Bracken - 1410) Ewan handed over his PADD to the Yeoman Miller and waited for her reply. =/\=Doctor Bracken, this is Kathy at the front desk. We have another arrival.=/\= “Thank you Kathy. On my way. Bracken out.” Ailynn finished pulling on a change of ivory scrubs, denoting her status as a neurosurgeon. She then picked up the padd that was on her desk and left the room, headed down the corridor the twenty or thirty meters or so to the desk. “Kathy?” (Reply Miller) “Thank you Kathy.” She passed over the padd. “Could you see to these. Transfer authorisations, repostings, and rosta changes. On top of that. I’d like another set of scans done from the trauma patient in bay 2. That wound is too close to major vessels for any error. Lastly, can you message Haversham at the City Hospital, and tell him he needs to open a lateral transect, rather than going through the posterior section. The shrapnel will be easier to get to from there, and tendons won’t be in the way.” (Reply Miller) “Thank you Kathy. You’re amazing.” She turned to see a tall looking, Dark haired male sitting nearby. “Welcome to Mars. Ailynn Bracken, Chief Medical Officer. My office is just down the way. Shall we?” (Reply McDonald) (Posted by Mark) (Mars Base - Medical Centre – Nurse – Ewan McDonald - 1413) Ewan saw woman walk up to the Miller who he assumed was Dr Bracken who was coming to meet him. He realised that there was a large proportion of young-looking staff and mostly all were Ensigns. ~Blimy I know that this was a start-up mission for Starfleet but they look so young~ He noticed a few older looking staff work on the other side of the room. ~Well at least there are people of my own age and I won’t feel like parent~ He remembered what his old mentor had told him when he had first started his carrier with the mobile surgical team. 'Remember Ewan that as a Operating Theatre Nurse you will have to look after the two children and the patient when you are in here. You may find that you are younger then your surgeon or anaesthetist but you will have to be the parent of the group some times.' he gave a mental chuckle that over the years working with different teams members that statement had been the acception rather then the rule. He noticed the woman who was talking to Miller turn and head towards him. He pushed his wondering mind back on to purpose and stood up as she stopped in front of him. “Welcome to Mars. Ailynn Bracken, Chief Medical Officer. My office is just down the way. Shall we?” “Ewan McDonald. Thank you very much it’s good to be here.” He followed Bracken down the corridor and into an office Ewan assumed was Bracken’s office and too the offered seat. (Reply Bracken) (Reply Bracken, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Mars Complex –Engineering Department- Archivist – Aleese Akess -1425) Aleese entered the Engineering department. She had been searching through her schematics and documents ever since the gossip mill had reached her down in the Vault that Star Fleet were thinking of building a Star base at Trill. She had found notes about a Juggernaut class Mobile Repair Dock and had headed to Engineering to talk Merek about the things she had found. “Is Ensign Merek here or some one who I can talk to?” (reply Merek or some from Engineering) (reply Merek or some from Engineering, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Mars Complex – Engineering – CEO – Ensign Keira Merek – 1426) Keira began scanning the first of the satellites she was getting ready to send into orbit. Not that she didn’t trust her build team, they had certainly accomplished quite a bit while she, the other officers and 1/3rd of their staff was away. Nearly every system on base was up and running at a functional level. She wanted to make sure the satellite hardware was good before she wrote the software that was going to run them. Each unit had two phaser array rings giving it nearly 360° of coverage, twice, a point defense system to shoot down incoming torpedoes, a tactical sensor suite, a small shield generator able to absorb one shot at best, all powered by a miniature fusion reactor. Normal running was in standby mode until they are activated by tactical down on the planet. In the event of another attack, each individual unit would be no match for a star ship, but depending on which angle they attack from 16-64 units each firing 2 phasers would be enough to give anyone’s shields a run for their money. At the very least it gave our pilots enough time to get to their ships and they could use the additional weapons fire as something to push an invader against and gain advantage on even capital ships. Keira heard a new set of footsteps walk into engineering. “Is Ensign Merek here or some one who I can talk to?” “Aleese, back here.” She called out. (Reply Aleese) “It’s been about a month since I saw you last. How you been?” Keira asked, she looked up from her scanning. (Reply Aleese) “That’s good. My trip to Trill was…. eventful. Got some scans for you. Bright shiny new Andorian battle cruiser.” She said and handed her a yellow isolinear chip.” It’s not as good as actual plans or blueprints, but you could at least start an entry.” She said with a shrug. (Reply Aleese) “Something tells me you aren’t here for a social call.” She said. (Reply Aleese) (Posted by Todd) (Mars Complex – Engineering – Archivist – Aleese Akess – 1428) Aleese smiled. “Its good to see you back home again.” She said as she walked over to Merek. “It’s been about a month since I saw you last. Got some scans for you. Bright shiny new Andorian battle cruiser.” Aleese took the isolinier chip she was given. ”It’s not as good as actual plans or blueprints, but you could at least start an entry.” Merek said with a shrug. Aleese paused for a moment thinking of the Andorian battle cruiser’s she knew. “This might be a Zephon Class Battle Cruiser. I heard that they were building them but I never got to see it. Thank you very much showing me this I will take this to the vault and see if I can find for you.” “Something tells me you aren’t here for a social call.” Merek said. Aleese smiled and nodded. “I heard that we are going to build a star base in Trill orbit.” She pulled out a PADD and handed it to Merek. “Here is all the data and schematics I have in the vault about stations. From what I can see is that once you have the design you want it’s a step and repeat process. Which makes it easier than starships.” (Reply Merek) “I found information on a Juggernaut Class Mobile Repair Dock. Some crazy person decided that they wanted to move an orbital dock along long with the war fleets to do major repair work on the move. So they put impulse engines on it, along with a warp core and a deflector dish and send it into warp. I have the schematics here and there was a rumour that there is a damaged and mothballed one some where in mars orbit. I was thinking if it is possible to find it and get it to work it could be sent to Trill and be used for assembly of the station.” (Reply Merek) (Reply Merek, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Mars Science Annex - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Stennin - 1500) Stennin nodded a final time to the lab technician as he handed over the PADD. For the past hour, he had been busy with filing supply needs for the annex. Most of the equipment was here, but there were multiple items that were needed. He greeted the Tellarite technician and left his small office. He straightened his jacket a little, and then proceeded to return to his quarters. He noticed in the corner of his eye that a terran man approached him, and he stopped. “Excuse me. I am Ensign Clarke. Do you know where I can find the department head?” Stennin rose a brow, but then nodded back. "Lieutenant Sekal is the head of R&D. His offices are located on the third floor, at the department head suites, near the astrometrics labs. Ensign Williams-Verin is the Chief Science Officer. She is stationed on the same floor, across from Sekal." (Reply Clarke) Stennin nodded. "My name is Ensign Stennin. I am one of the science officers assigned to this station and the crew of Adm...Captain Remae." (Reply Clarke) " It is agreeable to meet you, Ensign Clarke." Stennin pointed towards the turbolift with his hand sideways. "It would be only logical that I accompany you. My station is on the fifth floor. I can accompany you to the chiefs." What if she thinks I am an idiot like others? What is she laughs at me it will make it so awkward to work? I care about her lot. Who would have guessed that I would find someone that I would want to spend time with longer then a fling~ He glanced forward out of the cockpit to see White Skull One ahead of him in formation then double checked his position within the formation. He had, had flings in the academy but they were people who wanted to get to know him because he was Nova Squadron leader which they assumed would increase their standing with in their group rather than wanting to know Ire as a person. Greta seemed to like him for who he was rather then what he who he represented. They were friends and colleagues and he did not want to destroy that by getting it wrong. ~But…..~ There came a slap on the back of his flight helmet as Sonnlo reached forward and hit him. “Hay get your head back here. This not a time for you to be thinking of Greta. Do you hear me.” “Yes.” “Yes what!” “Yes Sonnlo.” “Dam straight. I am not having you crash this fighter on our first flight coz your mind is wandering around thinking of her.” There was a pause before she spoke again. “So you got feelings for Greta but don’t know what to do. Suck it up butter cup and go and ask her. If she says no, then learn from it and move on there is more people out there who would be the right one for you. You need to ask her soon coz I am not going to fly with you when you head is not 100 percent here and now. I know this is not real combat where you mistake matter. This is a training program, where you can go home to tea and biscuits when it’s all over, but you can still crash us into an asteroid if your mind goes of wandering.” “Yes Sonnlo………………Sonnlo?” “Yes” “Do you talk to all your pilots this way?” “Only when its needed.” “Thanks, Sonnlo.” “That’s what I am here for, to kick you up the back side when you are being an idiot but then I am not the only one who can do that.” “Sonnlo.” He said sternly. “Yes Sir.” He could hear the laughter in her voice from behind him. As he pushed those thoughts of Greta from his mind and prepared himself for the hard battle to come. They had to be loose if he was to pull of the next project. He looked at his kit once more, testing both the kick and the toms. He fine-tuned them some more, and then deemed it agreeable. "Computer. Execute program, Stennin V13D, variance 2." The holodeck was transformed into an arena, which Stennin knew was reminiscent of Wembley Station. Just as he planned, four men came on stage. One with a mustache, who quickly roused the stadium. Stennin knew that was Freddy, a legendary human singer. "Computer, fast forward by eight minutes, fourteen seconds." The computer complied, and the holodeck changed slightly. Suddenly, Freddy cried out. "Eeeeeeeeeeeeyoh!" the stadium returned in full voice. Stennin rose his brows at the sheer sound of it. "All right!" Freddy concluded. Then, he turned to Stennin, and said. " Hey hey hey. Hammer to Fall!" The man with the guitar, who Stennin knew was Bryan or something, started in. Stennin had been practising this song for some time now. He quickly hit all the queues, and then began the complicated drum riffs. Four minutes later, Stennin ended the song with a loud crash. Freddy made some provocative motions, which Stennin could not entirely understand. ~Primitive human. But he knows how to make a show.~ "Computer, end program." The holodeck faded, as Freddy waved to the crowd. The metal lining of the deck came into view. Stennin held his drum sticks firmly, and exited the holodeck. (Mars Facilities - Swimming pool 2 - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Stennin - 1640) Stennin looked up from his PADD as he walked past the open air swimming pool. He heard the sound of splashes, and indeed found a woman swimming. He noticed the blue collar of an uniform tossed on one of the beds, and the emblem of the crew of Remae. He stepped in, and waited for the woman to notice her. Her motions told Stennin that she was an experienced swimmer. He rose his brows. (Reply Quinna) " Greetings. JG Trip Williams, CSEC, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara, aFS2O, Ensign SG Ire Williams, Flight Officer, Ensign JG Reena Dezza, Flight Officer, Ensign JG Greta Smith - 16:00) The wait was over and the time for the operation to commence had begun. Trip and his fighter were in a holding pattern not too far from the battle field. He would be monitoring the battle from his fighter along with his temporary flight officer, Ensign Carson Peters. As the head of security for the base, Trip was curious to see how his team would react in this combat and he thought Carson would provide a unique perspective. The Samson was in the area monitoring the combat and they were using the drones, being controlled by the Samson, to record video of the combat for study later. Essentially for game film. This would be Trip’s first official action as the new and official Flight Squadron Commanding Officer. Ravok was no his acting FSXO and Ire his acting FS2O, both full ensigns. “What do you think C-Money, should we get this party started?” “C-Money? Is that my call sign?” Carson said smiling, he was intrigued to see how this would go and appreciated the invite from Trip to oversee it. “Let’s get this party started.” he said as he got himself comfortable. “No, not your call sign. Let me think of a good one for you.” Trip then began broadcasting to the combatants. “Alright then Sparatans. On your marks, get set, go!” Ire looked over at Sonnlo and nodded. “Let's get started.” He pushed the fighter’s impulse engines into full. And pointed towards the battle field. “Okay let's get the sensor up to full. As we are going to lose them all when we enter the asteroid field.” He aimed for a patch of asteroids which were large and slowly rotating. “Anything?” he glanced over at Sonnlo who was bent over her monitors looking for any signs of the others. They entered the asteroid field and began to weave through them making sure he had routes out in case of getting jumped by the others. “I have movement on the sensors. Turn right past this asteroid then dive under the next.” Ire turned the fighter in a long ark making sure he had good clearance on either side as he then dove under the next one. As the fighter pulled up from the bottom of the slowly revolving asteroid he saw Reena’s fighter appear in his front view port. He activated his phaser and pressed the activation icon. “Firing.” It was said even the best laid plans can fail when contact with the enemy is made. Reena moved into the asteroid field surrounded by rocks much larger than her fighter, she also knew Ravok was close by. The floating boulders masked her approach as she flew among them at half impulse, but she was not fool either; she throttled the impulse controls to allow for maximum acceleration at the drop of a hat. "You ready," she called back to her flight ops as the game was about to begin. Alarms flashed as her small fighter registered a targeting lock. Slamming her controls to the left she fired her side maneuvering thrusters as she put her ship into a spin. That would bring her to a predetermined flight vector and slammed into full impulse speed. Hoping Ire would follow and give chase. Trip had the feed from the drones beaming into his screen on Ares One. It seemed like Ire had the drop on Reena, but thanks to some fancy flying by their newest member, she was able to avoid Ire’s phaser fire completely. “Well Carson, looks like Razzle Dazzle has some fancy piloting skills.” Trip said to the Security chief who was monitoring the battle with him. Keeping track of who was who whilst they were using their call signs was a little more disorientating, but he was getting used to it. “Fancy, but will they be effective?” Carson replied as he tapped a few buttons on the screen to get a closer look. “While you’re out here, you need a call sign. How about Carson “Stud Muffin” Peters?” “If that’s the best you can come up with” Carson smiled, he knew Trip well enough by now to be able to joke with him. “I mean, shoot, I mean mine is Lover Boy, because of the, well, you know. Anyways, we can discuss later. I want to see what happens next.” Transitioning from one maneuver to the next as to not present a target she called, "Fire aft phasers keep his attention pinned on us." She called to her ops. As the aft marks came alive. She didn't care if she hit or not she wanted him to follow right to where Ravok was waiting along her flight path. She wondered if Ire would figure it out that he was being led into her partner's firing vectors Ire threw the fighter into jinks and dives trying to keep out of Reena’s phaser fire as well as trying to keep himself from getting his fighter spattered across the closest asteroid. Collision alarms screamed as the computer reported unsafe distances to objects. “Make sure that the sensors are ready, there might be an opening up ahead and that the shields can take some of the incoming fire. I need to know where Ravok is as that crazy Romulan and Reena will be leading us into a trap.” Due to some fancy piloting, Ire was able to evade the fire from Reena’s aft phasers. However he flew a little to close to the Asteroid, causing no structural damage to the craft, but damaging the paint job and leaving a nice large scratch. ~Oh come on Ire, these are brand new.~ Trip thought to himself. “Ire, likes a risky maneuver doesn’t he?” Carson said out loud, not particularly looking for an answer. Ravok was monitoring his sensors and Ire was right where he'd expected him to be. Playing air hockey with asteroids. Ravok flew into position. Reena flew past Ravok. He had maneuvered himself a safe distance away from any asteroid. As Ire was recovering Ravok knew this was prime time to take advantage. " Locking phasers on target" Baker locked phasers on target "Target locked" "Fire!" Ravok ordered as Baker pressed the button. Sonnlo’s console screamed a target lock as Ravok appeared behind them. A grin appeared on Ire’s face. “Okay just a little bit longer. Keep the shields up as they are firing on us from both sides.” He looked at the distance icon from Reena’s ship in front and Ravoks fighter behind and he tried to keep the fighter in one piece “Just a little bit longer…. Come on Greta where are you. Come and save my ass.” Within instants Reena and Ravoks trap was sprung to perfection, as Reena led Ire right into Ravok’s waiting jaws. Ravok’s attack was on point, doing a good deal of simulated damage to Ire’s shields. Greta grinned savagely as she came out of the shadow of an asteroid. She had watched all three fighters scream past and slammed her throttle forwards as she slid in behind Ravoks fighter. She saw the damage that had occurred to Ire’s fighter and grimaced. “Lock on target and prepare to fire.” ~This going to be tight~ “Fire.” "On our Six" Baker said calmly. Ravok threw power to his thrusters and slammed his engine into full impulse pulling his fighter into a vertical ascent, in an attempt to loop up and over Gretas fighter "Evasive maneuvers" Greta’s attack struck true, but was not as on point as she would have hoped for thanks to some fancy flying from the Romulan wonderkid. “Well looks like Reena and Ravok have Ire where they want him.” “It certainly seems that way, doesn’t it?” Carson said as he adjusted the screen in front of him and took a few notes. “Do you think that Ire and Greta can turn the tables. Being in sync is key, and The Puppy Love/Razzle Dazzle combo seems to be more on the same page. “I think there’s a reason they’re both professional pilots,” Carson said with a grin, “anything could happen yet.” “We shall see.” (reply None) (pposted by Will, Jono, Robert D., Robbie, Jackie, Matt L.) One more good hit and we are out of it.” Ire’s flight officer chimed in. “Tell me about it.” Suddenly the fire from Ravoks fighter, which was zipping past Ire’s fuselage, stopped. “Wow Greta must have arrived. Just in time.” He looked at the flashing warning icons on the console. “We really need to get out of here…..Push out the sensors and find us a way out of here just because we are being Reena won’t save us from her fire.” Sonnlo was furiously tapping at her console. “Got it, we have a turns up a head, whichever one she doesn't take we can go down.” “Good be ready to plot the course and keep firing until we turn.” Reena was pulling a course straight toward an asteroid. Now it has been said that her brilliance or madness. This was one of those maneuvers. She entered a high speed bank, killing power to her warp nacelle and allowing her inertia to carry her fighter into the maneuver. Forcing Ire's targeting lock to overshoot her position as she laid in his flight path allowing him to come close. Two things were evident as Trip watched Reena brilliantly dodge Ire’s latest attack The first is that she was definitely a good pick up for the squadron. The second was that she had definitely earned the name Razzle Dazzle. With Ire closing dangerously close she called back to Valera, "End him, weapons free." As all forward phasers opened fire. Ire saw Reena maneuvering out the way of his phaser shots. A part of his mind applauded of her pulling off such a maneuver but the other part cursed as she came back towards them. “Sonnlo keep what’s left of the shields facing Reena as we turn.” “Ire turn right now, now, now.” Sonnlo called out at the opening appears between two asteroids. Ire pulled the fighter into the opening and Reena’s fighter disappeared from view. However, as Ire tried to be crafty, Reena’s fighter was on his trail, firing phaser shots, they were all direct hits and Ire’s shields were completely down. The next triggered the simulation sensors indicating that his craft would no longer be able to turn left. Still Ire was able to beautifully maneuver the fighter to avoid contact with any more asteroids. ~Come one Ire~, Trip thought to himself. ~Pull it together. Get yourself above the belt. Don’t break our new toys.~ Ravoks loop above and around Greta was large enough to place him about 40 meters off of her 6 but low enough to where he could clear see the belly of Ires fighter, nearly 70 meters off from his current position "Sorry bud" he said as Baker locked phasers on Ire "Target locked" Bakers said once again very calmly. "Fire!" Ravok ordered. “Target lock high. It's Ravok.” Sonnlo called out as the target lock screamed. “Where the hell did he come from!” He pulled the fighter up hard hoping but knowing that it might be hopeless but it was the only maneuver he could pull so that he could clear the asteroids and get into open space. The last thing he needed was to die in the game and then smear himself, Sonnlo and the new fighter across some asteroid. As Ire tried to avoid Ravok’s phaser blast, however he wasn’t able to maneuver well enough. The hit was true and the simulation sensors indicated that the fighters external sensors were down. Greta followed Ravok up into his climb. She saw him manoeuvre as she saw Ire’s fighter appear. “Ow Ire no.” She pushed her engines fast as Ravok fired. Greta yanked the fighter into a firing position and lined up on Ravok’s fighter. “Kill him.” She said angrily. After Ravok opened fire on Ire he flew right out from under Greta ignoring her completely and still heading toward Ire "Baker lock phasers" Ravoks sensors went off, Greta had a lock on him. Just as he had planned. She may shake him up a bit but she wouldn't stop him from taking Ire out the game. Ravok boosted power to the vertical running retro thrusters in cascading effect and initiated a spin spiraling himself like a football toward Ire in an attempt to make her miss. If her hit was off and didn't hit him Ire would take friendly fire. "Thunder 2 to Thunder 1, get ready to pick up the package" Ravok said over the comm to Reena. Ravok was able to evade the onslaught by Greta, but just barely. Had his reaction timing been just a hair slower he would have taken damage. But instead he made it through free. However, his hope of Ire taking friendly fire were dashed when Ire was able, just barely, to maneuver out of harms way. Trip smiled. His squad leaders were performing well. Though it seemed like the team with the better synergy was that of Reena and Ravok. Perhaps it was because Ire and Greta had spent the prep time flirting with each other rather than putting together a solid plan. Trip didn’t know. “So Reena “Razzle Dazzle” Dezza was definitely a great pick up don’t you think?” “She’s a real talent, to be sure.” Carson said, lavishing on his praise of the pilot. Trip then flashed an impish smile. “You know, I don’t know if she knows who you are, maybe you should see if she is immune to the Carson signature smile.” “I’m not sure I’d be tough enough for her!” Carson joked back. He continued to keep an eye on her fighter as the fight continued. Trip laughed. “Alright, let’s see if Ire and Greta can mount a comeback.” (reply None) (posted by Will, Jono, Robert D., Robbie, Jackie, Matt L.) (Sol System - Asteroid Belt - FSCO, Lt. JG Trip Williams, CSEC, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara, aFS2O, Ensign SG Ire Williams, Flight Officer, Ensign JG Reena Dezza, Flight Officer, Ensign JG Greta Smith - 16:15) “Ire that last hit nearly took out our shields. One more good hit and we are out of it.” Ire’s flight officer chimed in. JG Trip Williams, CSEC, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara, Ensign JG Reena Dezza- 17:00) After Reena and Ravok had taken a short breather, Trip got back on the comm system. “Alright, you guys ready, let’s see who is gonna take round two.” Ravok powered his engines and flew off at full impulse toward Reena. He spotted her coming at him. "She's coming in hot," Ravok said. She was using the asteroid field for cover. Ravok maneuvered around an asteroid, to the side of it and over another one chasing her through the field. ~Safe distance, Safe distance~ Ravoks targeting sensor lit up. "I have you now” he said as Baker opened fire. She put the fighter into a hammer dive as the space filled with phaser fire. Transitioning into a split S that would allow her to come up from under Ravok. While Reena tried to get in position on Ravok, Ravok was able to get a small hit on her, weakening her shields. "There's your opening Valera," she called as her ops officer cursed in Vulcan at the force of the maneuver. But she had her lock and fired. Reena opened fire on Ravok he dipped down and under an asteroid that was headed straight at the two of them hoping it would block her shot and also hoping she'd be wise enough to move out of it's way. Ravok’s gamble paid off as he was able to dodge her attack thanks to the asteroid. Ravok flew towards another asteroid and hard banked around it pulling power from his engines allowing his fighter to slingshot around the asteroid. Hoping he could emerge and have her in his line of fire. His sensors went off; she was now behind him hot on his 6. He looped over the top of another asteroid using full power to his engines, emerging from under it he had a shot, a small window but still a shot "Fire" he ordered She tracked Ravoks flight path. Knowing openings were gonna be hard to find. She put her fighter into a hard roll to shake off the phaser fire. Reena was a good pilot, that much was for sure, but Baker was one of the best gunners in the squadron. Reigning down fire, he connected enough to take her shield points to 0. Reena's shields flashed and disappeared. It was a maneuver she didn't like to pull because of the difficulty she reversed the ship's momentum causing the small vessel to flip over its horizontal axis. "Valera fire, as he passes." "Emergency maneuvers" Ravok said as he slid his hand across his holographic interface controls and he swung his ship far to the side and around a small rock not big enough to block his ship, but big enough to wreck him if he hit it. His proximity alarm went off as he passed it. Ravok was able to use the asteroid to his advantage, hiding from Reena’s attack. It was a bit of a close call to the asteroid but he was able to get by it without hitting it. The advantage was now his. He banked around the small asteroid and was now face to face with Reena. He dipped his nose down while moving toward her and got within 5 meters of the belly of her fighter. "Fire" He ordered as he flew under and passed her at such a high speed. That she was almost outside his targeting vector. Reena pulled another high speed bank. She was breathing hard as the space around her filled with phaser fire. The zero point turn left her breathless as the force of so many hard maneuvers were starting to take their toll. She had to keep it together a little longer. The zero point turn was enough to spare Reena from the brunt of the blast, but Baker was able to get enough of a hit to register on the simulation sensors. Reena’s engines were slowed. It was a calculated risk as soon Ravok figured out she had lost speed; he would attack her at distance using his advantage to stay out of reach. "Valera, change in battle tactics." Reena spoke, catching her breath. "Set phasers for wide angle dispersion fire." She maneuvered keeping her back to the safety of the stone wall, while skirting an asteroid Ravok favored to hide around. Once he entered her strafing run Valera opened fire. Knowing that he would try to dodge but with the wide angle fire that would be even more dangerous. "Where is she? The asteroids are interfering with sensors" Ravok said as he flew around trying to get a lock on her. He picked up a small energy reading 90 meters out. He flew to its location trying to get a visual. As he approached a rather large asteroid the energy reading spiked. Suddenly his alarms went off and she had him. Ravok tried pulling away to avoid the hit but he knew it was too late. The hit was near perfect, draining about half of his shield power with one blow. "That's it I'm done, I've had enough" He said to Baker as he slammed his thrusters hard and banked back toward her. She was moving away but slowly. He angled his flight path and just before he reached her he banked hard left "fire" Reena knew he would close the distance, and took the opportune shot. She smiled. "Valera fire sensor probes and chaft. That should play pretty with his targeting sensors.” Reena tried her best to mess with the shot, but Ravok knew he had the best flight officer in the Squadron. With his steady hand at the controls and Baker's excellent aim, Baker was able to shoot true, disabling Reena’s sensors. Reena knew this game if she didn't even the odds it would mean the end. "Valera use the main nose rig to base our shot we will only get one chance." Ravok had made one misstep; he got close. Reena slammed on the break coming to a full stop letting Ravok overshoot her. It was their last chance to make something happen. She hoped as she watched the red Lance's dance toward Ravoks small fighter. Reena swore she would not go down without a fight. She stopped suddenly and Ravok flew right by her, exposing his 6. His targeting alarms went off and he pulled back hard arcing up vertically, hoping to clear the hit. The fire from Reena’s fighter connected, slowing down Ravok’s fighter. He no longer had the speed advantage. Ravok looped left and back down towards Reena's fighter, Baker locked on phasers and fired. Coming within meters of her ship, his proximity alarms flashed for a brief moment ~Damn alarms~ He thought. They were dog fighting. Swirling around each other in the asteroid belt. Two pilots giving it their all. She smiled, the maneuver would either be brilliance or suicide. Using only her maneuvering thrusters over the outer hull of Ravok's fighter. Unfortunately for Reena, Baker was darn near surgical and did enough damage to end the simulation, with her screen flashing, you are dead. “Alright Razzle Dazzle, game over. Head back to base, consider your time off Starting now.” Trip said, impressed with his newest pilot. She was already breathing hard, she had pushed hard, and was left wanting. Never before was she able to fly an actual fighter. She was able to fly and pull maneuvers she only dreamed about. She wanted to go all the way to win. The fire that burned inside her demanded nothing less. Tears began to flow from her face she was angry with herself. For not being better, the fighter's autopilot kicked in and she was pulled back to base. “Ravok, take a break, 5 minutes. When we restart, you should be back to full.” "Yes sir" Ravok responded over the comm. He switched the comm channel to Reena. "Thunder 2 to Thunder 1, you did great. I couldn't have made it this far without you" She dried her eyes before opening the comm. "Same to you Thunder 2, Thunder 1 signing off." “Alright Carson, it's time for us to enter the fray, I pray you don’t let me down.” “Let’s crack some heads!” Carson agreed. “Teach Ravok a lesson, eh?” “What do you think of my pilots so far? “Impressive… it’s much more impressive seeing it up close than over the sensor logs. I had a feeling that Ravok would be who we’d be up against.”. “This won't be easy, I’m easily the worst pilot of the five of us here, and Ravok is tenacious and Baker is on his A-Game, so we’re going to need to bring it.” “Worst Pilot? Well I didn’t know that when signing on..” Carson laughed a little, “We’ll be fine. Let’s give them a good show.” “Good Man.” (reply None) (posted by Will, Jono, Robert D., Matt L.) (Sol System - Asteroid Belt - FSCO, Lt. JG Trip Williams,CSEC, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara- 17:15) The time for the final exercise had come. It would be Trip vs Ravok. Ravok was more warmed up, but in a way Trip had the advantage as he had seen Ravok already engage in combat. Still, now that Trip was the official FSCO, pride was on the line. He already felt like the inferior pilot, he wanted to show that he had earned his position, not just based on grades or his mind, but because he had the skill to back it up as well. “Alright Carson, the exercise is about to begin. What do you recommend for our opening salvo? You’ve had a chance to see how Ravok operates. What do you think?” “He seems to really enjoy using the asteroids, hiding behind them and then surprising the enemy. Keep that in mind, for when he disappears off your scope. Could either deploy the same tactic, or keep him as far away from anywhere to hide and go for a tie to toe fight.” “Fair enough.” Trip smiled, keep your fingers on the phasers. Baker is a great shot, so I need you to be surgical back there.” “Don’t think he’d beat me with a phaser, we’ll see how I am on this.” Carson tapped the controls, he was getting excited and began to calm his mind so he could fire within an instant. "It's alright, I have an idea." Trip then opened the comm channel. "Alright Ravok. Engagement commences now." "Yes sir….good luck" Ravok replied over the comm. Trip then began calculating the best course through the asteroid. Ravok may be the better pilot but Trip knew his math was better on the fly. He accelerated towards the asteroid belt coming within firing range of Ravok. "Carson you'll get one good shot before we enter the belt." As Trip deftly flew the fighter towards Ravok, Carson began lining up several different shots in his mind, depending on what he’d be able to hit. “Aye, I’m ready.” Trip had clearly been underselling his flight skills, he was tremendously talented and they came up on Ravoks fighter far quicker than Carson had expected. “Firing now” he said as the aiming computer showed him a lock on the aft side of Ravoks craft. “Shots fired.” He reported. Trip came within firing range quicker than expected. He was flying straight at him. Like he had something to prove or perhaps he was simply that insane. Ravok didn't break coarse And flew straight at Trip. "Diverting emergency power to Shields." Ravok said as he slipped extra power to the shield relays, just as Trip opened fire. "Hit this," Ravok said as he slammed his fighter into a full reverse. Making his fighter appear as if it were sliding backwards on a sheet of ice in an attempt to make Trip under shoot him. In the process alarms started going off. Trip didn’t adjust his course, he simply checked his calculations against the computers flight path and continued onward knowing that they wouldn’t collide. Proximity alarms were going off, but Trip trusted his math and his skills, and the approach vector indicated that he would pass 15 feet over Ravok, maybe a little too close for comfort, but enough to where they’d get a good shot in. As they passed over and were clear, Carson fired a burst of shots from the aft phasers taking down Ravok’s shields to half strength. Trip then increased velocity at an escape vector and then entered the asteroid belt. ~Come on Ravok. Come and chase me.~ Thought to himself as he checked his course heading. ~Not bad for an opening salvo,~ Carson thought to himself with a grin on his face. "Work on our shields, We can't take many more hits." Ravok said to Baker. “On it," Baker quickly responded. Ravok followed Trip towards the asteroid belt but broke off to the right at the last second, flying parallel to the outer edge of the belt. It appeared Ravok was disengaging. “Well look who is being a cheeky devil.” Trip said as it seemed like Ravok was breaking off his pursuit. “Cheeky devil?! I didn’t realise you had some English in your locker, Trip.” Carson said as he monitored Ravok’s reading on the console in front of him. Trip chuckled, “My best friend is Dr. Bracken, her and her family are super English, somehow I picked up a few phrases. Anyways, what’s your assessment? What do you think he’s trying to accomplish?” “Probably trying to interfere with our sensors, drop off and then come at us from a different direction. He’s used the tactic previously. Keep an eye on the asteroids around us and be ready to divert course.” Carson said, remembering Ravok liked to creep around and jump on people when they least expected it. Trip nodded. “That is what I was thinking. Its alright, I want him behind me, and if he doesn’t want to be behind me in an asteroid belt, then let’s get some elevation. Then I’ll spring my trap.” Trip then changed course exiting the belt. "Sir… What are you doing? The fights back there" Baker asked very confused. "Target their phasers and only their phasers. This simulation is set up by Lt.Williams. He has the advantage. Let's change that." Ravok replied. He suddenly pulled up in a steep incline going nearly vertical at full speed. Flying high above the asteroid belt. He pulled hard left and looped down and towards the asteroid belt. Spotting Trip on his sensors. Trip was on the rise "We meet again" Ravok said with a smile as he flew wide right of Trip on a decline towards the belt. "Fire" Baker locked on and took the shot. “Here he comes,” Carson stated as Ravok made his move. “Carson divert shield power to aft shields, we want them as strong as possible. Trip maneuvered to where they would be directly in front of Ravok as soon as both ships leveled out. Once the two were in line Baker’s shots came in. Tapping on the console in front of him, he diverted as much power as he could without drawing too much from the thrusters as Trip requested. “Done, hopefully it’s enough.” Carson said. The shots came in. They all hit as Trip knew they would, but the shields were holding and the weapons systems were still online. “Alright, we’re gonna do something fun. When we are inverted over Ravok fire.” “inverted?” Carson repeated, somewhat surprised. “That’s right I said inverted.” “I’m not sure that’s what I signed up for,” Carson joked, “I’ll be ready.” he began to load up and hold charges in the weapons and decided to take inspiration from Ravok’s previous move and target their weapons systems. If they got a good hit, it could really leave them high and dry. Trip then led Ravok on a bit of a chase before accelerating to give himself enough distance. Trip needed to make sure he had accelerated to sufficient speed to perform a loop in the aircraft. He was going to start an Immelman Maneuver. Once he had reached the speed he needed he began to pull the fighter into a climb and continued to pull back on the controls. Keeping everything straight, Trip initiated a half loop and began heading back towards Ravok. The fighter, once it had passed over the point at which the climb was commenced, was at this point inverted. “How are we doing back there Carson?” “All good… not sick at all.” He spat out. “Alright maintain weapons lock.” “Weapons locked and ready, targeting his weapons systems” Carson’s head spun around as he checked the console to his left and then back to the targeting system. The fighter then sped towards Ravok at an inverted angle. “Fire once we are past him.” “Aye, aye.” The fighter then passed over top of Ravok and Trip gave a cheeky salute from his cockpit as Carson fired. As the weapons fired and raced towards Ravok’s fighter, Carson couldn’t help but momentarily let out a laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation and how much enjoyment he was getting from it. At this point there was little Ravok could do except barrel roll his fighter in an attempt to avoid the hit. The shots hit, leaving Ravoks shield at the minimum possible level they could be without going out. They were still holding at near 5%. As Trip sped away, he leveled out and was no longer inverted, wondering what Ravok would do next. Ravoks shields took a massive hit, but he engaged Trip following him at full speed. Performing the barrel roll placed Ravok right within Trips' direction of travel. Ravok was gaining on his Six but pulled up and initiated a Split S maneuver to envelop Trip’s Travel path. At the halfway point of the split S arching out in front of Trip, Baker waited until they were 75 percent done the maneuver that took them up and over their flight path and positioned them down and away at 45 degree angle, to open fire. "Target lock...firing" Trip tried his best to shake the phaser fire, but he knew his best bet was to just take the hit. “Divert power to forward shields, we’re going to take the blow.” “Diverting,” Carson said as he tapped the console once more. The power only just diverted to the forward shields in time, as the ship shook with the blast received from Ravok. “Looks like shields are still holding. Dude is fierce. We aren’t going to be able to hold him off forever. Any thoughts Carson?” “His shields are almost gone, if you’ve got any more of them fancy maneuvers so I can get a clear shot then this would be the time… how about using his own tactics against him? Go play hide and seek, we only need a small chance to finish him off.” The two flew past Ravok and Trip began accelerating. “I don’t know, Ravok is smart, he knows he is wounded, he won’t take that bait. We’re going to have to do something absolutely…..bonkers.” Trip smiled. “Torpedos! No one has used them yet, but they are part of the simulation program.” “I’m not sure I’m capable of making the torpedos non-lethal.” “Everything is run on sensors, we’re not using real phasers right, its a computer program shooting out a modified beam that if it registers with the simulation program that it's a hit.” “I fire torpedos though and they’re actually going to hit him.” The conversation was moving incredibly fast, it was interesting to Carson seeing Trips mind working at a higher speed than is required on the ground. “So this baby isn’t currently loaded with torpedos, right, but the combat simulation between all the fighters are linked. So if you were to get a targeting lock, right, it would then let Ravok’s simulation know you had a torpedo lock on it. If you hit fire, it would let Ravok’s computer know it was being fired at by Torpedos. Based on his actions after the computer recognizes its been fired on, the algorithm will determine how much damage he has taken.” Carson semi-shrugged, “As long as I’m not about to kill them.” He said morbidly, “seems like a good way to win, no one has used anything like it through the afternoon.” “This trick will only work once, because I don’t know if he knows this yet. So we are going to have to go balls out on this. Once we have him in range, establish a torpedo Lock, and fire everything.” “Everything it is then, he’s not going to feel cheated by this?” Carson suggested, “The thing is, those guys, they’re all pilots, they want to test their limits, who is the better fighter, who is the better tactician. Who can out gun who, who can out maneuver who. These are trained fighter pilots with pride on the line. Those guys didn’t use torpedos because it would be to easy." “A wins a win in my book, if this was a real fight torpedos wouldn’t be off the table.” Carson said, ~Use whatever advantage you have~ “If this becomes a pure dogfight, eventually Ravok will run circles around me. Like I said, I know these guys are better pilots. But me, when it comes to math, to science, to equations. I like seeing the bigger picture, that is where I excel. So I have no qualms going all out, because at the end of the day, this isn’t about skill, it's about testing the fighters capabilities. “It’ll make Ravok and Baker better in the long run as he’ll now remember to keep his eyes open for torpedos. Always a learning experience to be had.” Carson laughed a little and continued to set up ready to fire. “Plus, I’m an over competitive jerk who wants to win.” Trip then performed a Split-S maneuver to begin back in Ravok’s direction. “You’re cleared hot Carson, once you have a lock on him. Fire a torpedo burst. I want to see what he does, and well hopefully he forgives me for this one.” Ravok began his return approach to Trips location. "Alright Baker, when you get a shot take it" he said to his flight officer. He saw Trip coming right at him. "Full power to Phas…" Suddenly the interior of his fighter flashed red. “Locked on… and firing.” Carson said “One volley… and a second volley away.” " A DAMN TORPEDO LOCK!!!" Ravok fired his starboard thrusters in an attempt to evade the torpedo... Ravok did his best to evade the simulated signals of the torpedo lock, but it was too much for him to take. The screen flashed, You are dead. “Sorry Ravok,” Trip said over the comms. “Time to head home.” Ravok shook his head and opened the Comm. "Nice flying Boss, Let's head back" He responded. Carson tapped his comm unit, “Good game, Ravok. Better luck next time, I need to see you once you’ve landed bud.” " Aye Sir" Ravok replied to Carson Trip smiled. “All Fighter wing personnel, head back to base. Well done everybody. Well done.” (reply none) (posted by Will, Jono, Robert D.) (Mars Facility- 1st fighter wing complex- Warbirds Hangar - SCO, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara- 17:55) Ravok exited his fighter. And climbed down the side of it, leaped to the ground. "See ya later Baker, good job out there" Ravok said to Baker as they both removed their helmets. "Back at you Sir" Baker replied Ravok tucked his helmet under his arm and headed to his office to meet Ensign Peters. ~I wonder what he wants to talk about~ Ravok kept thinking… (Mars Facility- 1st fighter wing complex- Ravoks office - SCO, Ensign SG Carson Peters, aFSXO, Ensign SG Ravok Shara- 17:57) Inside Ravoks office was a desk, a view screen, a small couch and shelf on the wall with a few Model starships he had put together himself. As he waited for Carson he was still wearing his flight suit. He was going over tactical data from the simulation, curious about the abilities of his fellow squadron leaders. ~Ensign Dezza is amazing. Her execution is damn near flawless ~ he thought as he scanned through the files on her performance in the simulation. After thanking Trip for the invite and congratulating him on the win and having such a superb team of pilots to lead, Trip had pointed him in the direction of Ravoks office and Carson had hot footed it over to and now stood outside the office. He could have easily let himself in, but he hit the chime instead to be polite. Ravok looked up at the door as he heard it chime. "Come in," He said. Walking in, Carson took a quick look around the office- Security Officer habit- and then moved towards Ravok’s desk and said, “Evening Pilot, an excellent show out there!” Ravok stood up and walked around his desk and reached out for Carsons hand to shake it "Great job sir, also congratulations on your promotion. Well deserved. Please have a seat Sir ." “We’re in your office Ravok,” Carson said as he sat down, “You can drop the formalities and you the ‘Great Job’” he chuckled a little, “You’ve got to be a little bit annoyed we used the torps?” Ravok laughed as he sat back down in his seat. " Not annoyed, just surprised. We typically hold off on those in simulations. Torpedoes tend to finish the job quicker than phasers" “Listen… I heard a few rumours this morning before the meeting about yourself and Taya… I’m not normally one for gossip-mongering, but I need to know if any of it’s true and if it is, whether it would impact you working alongside her during Ship duties?” Ravok raised an eyebrow at him. "Oh, so you heard? I was hoping for her sake no one would talk about what they saw. I have to admit I'm rather embarrassed about it myself" “You don’t have to tell me what happened, you and Ensign Merek are still… ?” Ravok nodded his head "Of course we are. When I was finished with Ensign Taya, I went to Ensign Merek's quarters and told her everything. She's ok with it and understood completely. She knows it's in my nature to do those things.” Carson’s eyebrow twitched in shock, “Oh, well. That’s good to hear and Taya is good with that arrangement?” "Well I'm sure she wouldn't want me talking to people about it. She's not known for behaving like she did, but I had to tell Ensign Merek, because from my understanding it is only right to tell your girlfriend when things like this happen. A few nights ago on the Mystique I left Ensign Merek on holodeck to go to Ensign Cortez's. Ensign Merek even insisted that I go there." Ravok said. He was completely clueless about the rumors swirling around. “Multiple women, Ravok? I didn’t have you pegged for that kind of thing.” Carson said, he’d learnt more about Ravok than he’d anticipated. “Anyway I only ask as one of the positional changes the Admiral… damn it, Captain had prepared before this morning's meetings is to increase your ship board responsibility within Tactical if you’re open to it?” Ravok smiled. "Well I have few female friends and I would drop almost anything to help them. I'd do it for you too." He said as he pointed a finger at Carson and without skipping a beat said. "I'm open to anything that would increase tactical operations on..” “Whoah, HANG ON.” Carson cut before Ravok could go any further, “You do realise the scuttlebut is that you and Taya… enjoyed a romantic evening together? We’re friends but I don’t think we’re that close.” Carson said seriously, but also whilst fighting off a fit of laughter. "Are you serious?" Ravok asked with his bigger than the asteroids they had been dodging a short while ago. "Oh no no no." he said as he quickly stood up and started pacing . He stopped and looked at Carson. "Look it's not like that. I was on my way back from the bar last night and I came across Ensign Taya outside drinking and talking about being the andorian swan of dishonor. She threw up and fell over, I picked her up and walked her to her quarters. She could barely walk straight. People were snickering and laughing at her. I was furious but remained determined to help her. When we got to her quarters I helped her change and gave her a glass of water to keep hydrated and Ieft. I wasn't there for more than ten minutes." Carson heard parts of what Ravok was saying through his howling laughter which had erupted as Ravok had begun pacing. “I’m sorry Ravok, that’s great.” Taking a deep breath he then continued, “That's good news, seriously. Perhaps not great for Taya. Are you OK?” Ravok placed hands on his head and tugged at his hair and grunted before placing his hands on the desk and leaned forward. "No I'm not ok" he pointed his finger to Carson. "You, you are the chief of security and and...and I demand that you help me lodge a complaint for defamation of character on Ensign Taya's behalf." Ravok said as Carson's face was blood red from laughing. Ravok was clearly talking crazy. “How noble, though I don’t think you want to go down that route, the fact that I am the Chief of Security is why I hear these things quicker than most. Filing a report means everyone begins to hear about it quicker. If Taya wants to file a report, she can come see me.” He’d finally managed to get his breath back. Ravok looked down and took a seat "Look, you don't know me that well, but those who know me and I mean truly know me, know that I would never do anything like that. Ensign Merek and I haven't even...done that. For us Romulans it's different. There's more passion involved more...time to learn about each other. No offense but you humans have little to no impulse control in such things." He said as he looked back up at Carson. "I wasn't serious about a complaint. I was ranting. I would however like to arrange a personnel resource meeting with her to talk with her about this. I can't imagine she will take this well at all.” “Taya’s strong, I’m sure if it becomes an issue for her she’ll deal with it in her… unique way. Anyway, back to business, how far did I get? Oh right. One of the departmental changes that was talked about earlier is moving your to acting Assistant Chief of Tactical when your Ship-side. Thoughts?” Ravok smiled. "Yes, of course. I accept. Thank you Sir." Carson nodded, “Excellent. Well, then, that’s that sorted.” He handed Ravok a padd with the assignment information on it. Ravok took the PADD and stood up to shake Carson's hand. "Once again thank you. I won't let you down" “I know you won’t. Congratulations. I’ll leave you to it.” After Carson left , he sat back down and gently slammed his head on his desk a few times. "Fvadt, fvadt, fvadt! " He said each time he banged his head. "Are you serious?" Walking in, Carson took a quick look around the office- Security Officer habit- and then moved towards Ravok’s desk and said, “Evening Pilot, an excellent show out there!” Ravok stood up and walked around his desk and reached out for Carsons hand to shake it "Great job sir, also congratulations on your promotion.
