She wasn't taking the bribe of chocolate cake. Sy was not sure how she felt about Cortez. "You mentioned Luma. Do you feel that, interacting with her so much has been a good thing?" Sy did not answer until she sat back down with her food, "Have you met Luma? Interacted with her much?" Sy asked in return. (reply) "She's different, not at all human. Her race is long lived and she is the last of that race. She's been abused by Starfleet Intelligence and abandoned by the Fleet in general. She knows so much about the universe and about civilizations that no longer exist. I'm truly glad that I re-discovered her and that she's temporarily bonded with Ensign Sekal until we can find her an appropriate bondmate. She needs counseling though and Counselor Solace has been working with her. Quinna's doing a great job." Sienna nodded, as if ticking off something in her head. (reply) "I think the question you are wanting to ask though is - Do I regret not being able to be her bondmate and the answer to that is yes and no. Yes because it would be an incredible scientific opportunity and no because as an acting chief I have a great deal on my plate and being her bondmate is a full time job." (reply) Sienna ate while waiting for Erin to reply. (reply erin, any) (posted by Mel) (Mars Facilities - Counselor's Personal Office - Ensign JG Erin Cortez - 1721) "Have you met Luma? Interacted with her much?" “I haven’t. I’m not at all sure who luma is or what she is.” Erin answered truthfully. "She's different, not at all human. Her race is long lived and she is the last of that race. She's been abused by Starfleet Intelligence and abandoned by the Fleet in general. She knows so much about the universe and about civilizations that no longer exist. I haven’t had the chance to speak to many of the assigned people on this base. Those that i have have all been welcoming and friendly. It’s good to hear that a fellow counsellor has been making progress with Luma.” "I think the question you are wanting to ask though is - Do I regret not being able to be her bondmate and the answer to that is yes and no. Yes because it would be an incredible scientific opportunity and no because as an acting chief I have a great deal on my plate and being her bondmate is a full time job." Making an note on her Padd, Erin nodded slowly, “So, that is a regret of sorts. We all have them, some more than others.” Taking a breath, Erin allowed herself to calm. ~I’m not sure she likes me much. I just hope that she doesn’t say anything to Billy.~ she thought to herself, “I will admit that i was nervous to do this evaluation with you for obvious reasons.” (reply) “If i may speak freely and off the record.” (Reply) “Well, you are Billy’s cousin. Whatever is between billy and myself is… well, it’s new and i would like it if it is kept between the two of us. I understand that you are trying to protect him. Believe me when i say that the last thing i ever want to do is hurt anyone. I have been on the receiving end of hurt and i know what that does to a person.” (Reply) “That said, i think we are done here for now unless you have any other questions or anything you wish to say?” (Reply) (reply Williams-Verin, any) (Posted by Jackie) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mission: You Can’t Go Home Again Day: 13 Stardate: 2444.06.13 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Mystique -- Counselor's Offices - MOPS Ensign JG Billy Alexander - 11:03) (USS Mystique -- Counselor's Offices - Mission OPS Ensign JG Billy Alexander -- 11:17) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mission: You can’t go home again Day 13 Stardate: 2444.06.13 (USS Mystique -- Counselor's Offices - MOPS Ensign JG Billy Alexander - 11:03) “So what are you missing?” "That is a very interesting question, I'm not really sure what I am missing. I guess I haven't really been on this assignment long enough to know what it is I am missing." “Seems like your placement here is all positive, so what is your icing on the cake? What is the one thing that would make it better?” "A hot tub in my quarters would be nice." Billy said with a laugh. "Honestly counselor, I really don't know. This is actually my dream assignment." (reply Solice) "I majored in Human Resources, was in the Operations department track. I wasn't going to be the best on the computer and software aspect of it all. Was probably going to be mainly quartermaster type stuff. I was good enough to get into the Academy, to graduate, but my career advancement wasn't going to be to, present, so to speak if I was in an OPS position, would have been outperformed by a lot of folks." (reply Solice) "My best bet would be a desk job like the one I have now. I'm well organized, could at seeing and memorizing data. I'm just not the best at math and engineering and the like. However if you have a desire for the ops position, the math and the engineering will soon become second hand. Just be happy.” "Oh I have no doubt that I would have success. This just feels like a more natural fit for me, for my talents. I am happy here. It's a good place to learn." “I heard you say you are now seeing Ensign Cortez. You have not been here lone, how did this all start?” "I met her in the academy as a freshman. She dated my roommate for a bit. The we were on the same shuttle over here and we reconnected. It just started with the some playful bantering and a bit of sophomoric humor. I guess we just felt an instant attraction and just, I dunno, followed it to where it was going to lead." “What have you discovered about her that you really really really like?” "We've only been dating for a few days, there is still a whole lot to be discovered." (reply Quinna) "But other than the fact that I find her absolutely gorgeous, there is a kindness there that I feel drawn to. I mean, there are other things that will be hurdles sure. She's a bit insecure of herself, of her surroundings at times. She's very hard on herself. And that can be draining for me. I'm not perfect, but I know who I am and I am comfortable with who I am, and it can be a bit frustrating you know, when she has on of her moments, were she thinks that here past or whatever is going to drive me away, and it's like, give me some credit, alright, everyone has baggage, just because you have some doesn't mean I'm going to bolt." (reply Quinna) "Sorry I'm venting and yes this is a conversation I'm going to need to have with her. And I know her insecurities come from trauma, it always does. I'm, not trying to be insensitve, it just is what it is. But to your question, she's playful, she's energetic, she has a good heart, she cares. She may care too much what other people think, but that isn't a big deal. I guess I'm excited to see where it goes, because I think this adventure will be worth it. I think she will be worth it. Some part of her watched them all, but she was enjoying. She was not alone. She was surrounded by multitudes of people who were beginning to understand her, and she reveled in the contact. It was almost like being back with her first generational ship. Not as chaotic but as beautiful. All the life made a tapestry of indescribable beauty. Luma monitored all the speech within the ship and she particularly watched the Foxglove who she did not trust at all. So she knew that the Foxglove and Sekal were speaking and Luma felt slightly betrayed by that. If they were discussing her, she should have been involved. But Sekal wanted to speak to her and he had done it properly so she would focus on him as he wished. Having gotten her attention he removed his hand. "I have spoken with Jaelle Foxglove. Perhaps you know of this? The feud between the two of you is illogical and she recognizes this." =^= Luma knew that you spoke to the Foxglove. Vex’ahlia says that it is not customary to monitor private conversations, so Luma did not -listen actively-, she just recorded as she was told to do. Luma is not pleased that you spoke to the Foxglove without Luma’s involvement since you spoke of Luma. =^= Luma did not understand the concept of a feud. Foxglove was duplicitous and untrustworthy and Luma did not trust her, at all. He was nonplussed at her criticism. "You have only to review the logs to know what was said. Private conversations are private for a valid reason and that is so involved parties may speak freely. As I have nothing to hide I have no reason to desire what was said to be kept secret." He picked up the mug and took a drink of the water it contained while she reviewed the dialogue with Jaelle. "As I have already stated secrets are necessary in her line of work. Neither you or I approve of secrets, they defy logic. Having said this there are real world applications for them." =^= Luma does not understand the need for duplicity =^= "Consider this…", he continued, "Jaelle Foxglove or whatever her true name believes herself to also have been misused by the Federation. Her loyalties then are arguably tainted however she is doing what she can to better hers and by extension then our existences by working with us." He set the mug down again. "The recriminations between the two of you have dual foundations, both personal and professional and your personal suspicions are based on the professional aspects." He set back in the chair and steepled his fingers. "Luma you must understand that Foxglove logically does not answer to you but to the Admiral. He has the information that you sent him and with it will form his own plans going forward. It is not in your power to determine her guilt or innocence." =^= That is why Luma is to watch. =^= The ship replied after a moment. =^= Carefully. The young small ones can be easily harmed.=^= He nodded. "Watching out for the crew is a logical extension of your duty. Foxglove does not desire your professional differences to cloud your personal judgement. This is a reasonable request." Placing her stew on the table. She took a small bit as he spoke offing an introduction. “I am Ensign Ire Williams from flight ops." She smiled she knew well enough who he was reading the reports from the mars base well enough that it gave her a good grasp on who most the crew was. "Yes, I'm Ensign Jaelle Foxglove from intelligence." She responded in kind "Might I ask what brings you here at such an early hour." “I am on the graveyard shift. So technically it's my lunch.” He gave a slight smile and looked around the mess hall. “But if I may ask why are you here I thought people have the day shift.” She nodded. "To put it simply intelligence is to short staffed. So to monitor all the shifts I work a rotating schedule and I'm always on call. In case something happens that I need to oversee." Takes a bit of her stew, "however right now it's perfectly nice and calm. If you want to have a conversation you don't have to worry about having to talk over every one else." Ire nodded. “Yes it's totally crazy at breakfast or dinner but it's nice to come and just be able to relax.” "So you mentioned you were a pilot how are things going there." Ire gave a lopsided grin. “The Wing has been going fine. We took out some pirates by the belt and have been on non stop patrol of the system since we arrived.” “Me personally has been having a few problems with my Lucky Thirteen.” "I've heard." She spoke softly. "But things will get better, as for the pirates. I heard a old saying once 'no plan survives contact with an enemy. You all did the best you could." “We were lucky. We were flying with out of date fighters against shuttle and raiders if they had, had anything more modern it would have been different but we have a very good wing from the newest rookie to the boss himself.” She smiled, "you know you don't have to be shy you can ask me anything you want." He nodded for a moment before not trying to ask the most obvious question and failed miserably. “Why did you choose intelligence as a speciality?” She sighed before answering it was a valid question and o e she was sure many wondered about. "Truth is I didn't have a choice in the matter. I have a skill set most don't have and intelligence was hurting just as bad as any other branch of the Federation. When Intelligence came to me they left little room to say no." I”I guess it was one of those offers you could not refuse.” He gave a slight smile. “Fortunately for me my skill set involves some thing that I enjoy which is flying but I don’t think i could really do anything else. I knew someone at the academy who decided to pack it all in to become a scuba diving instructor and from what I heard she is doing really well.” "Scuba is nice, and I can enjoy it as a past time but not as a career." She quickly changed to focus off her. "I'm glad you love what you do. There is a certain thrill when it comes to flying, an unbound freedom that only fighters can give. That's what I enjoy." She smiled “That is true there is nothing more fun than blasting through atmo going orbital strapped to a fighter feeling the Gs as you maneuver…. but for me the best is when it's all slowed down. I have a lightship based on the old bajoran design. She is not fast in fact she is slow to start but once you get enough light pressure behind she goes at a fair speed. It's nice to just float in zero-g and just watch s every thing is going at breakneck speed. It gives you a perspective that is very unique nowardasy.” "Its also nice just to slow things down. Sometimes life just gets to busy to hectic. To many people dont know when just to slow life down. When you been in as many bad situations as I've been in you know when to stop and smell the Rose's." “Yes it's all about go here, do that, we need this by yesterday or why have you not done this yet I gave it to you five seconds ago. Unfortunately as I am incharge of a squadron crazy I know. I have been given the unenviable task of all the squadron’s admin which I now realise that I need to deliage more but no matter how much I try there is alway more and I really hate it.” "It doesn't get easier when you have to deal with the needs of a section or an entire ship for that matter. You will learn to deal with the difficulties. Most pilots cant stand not being able to do something that drive allows them to excel. While you many not like it now, you will grow into the responsibility." “I hope so. I was not supposed to be a flight squadron officer of the Void Haunters. I was supposed to be the newest Rookie in the Squadron and now I am in charge of sixty five pilots, flight officer and support staff which is a huge jump in responsibility. I am getting used to it and being away on the Mystique is helping me get things into perspective.” "It does. Honestly, I hate keeping secrets. I thinks it one of the worst things I person can do. Yet my life is built around them. But you never know something will come along and put things in perspective." Running a finger over her ear to pull back a loose stand of hair back under her flower. "What else do you enjoy." She was deliberately keeping the conversation away from herself and the unpleasant memories of her past or having to leave the life she once knew to rejoin the Federation. “I do enjoy some Mok’bara and Tai Chi but I guess what I like doing more is zero-g martial arts. I guess I should find some hobbies that actually involve interacting with other people but it's not alway that easy.” "A hobby is a hobby because it's what you enjoy. Not what everyone else enjoys. No if you find someone who shares those enjoyments then more power to both of you. If you ever need a sparing partner please ask. Not all my hobbies involve others, in fact every few do." “That would be great. I would be nice to spare with a real person rather than just a holo program. What disciplines do you do? "Several Small Circle Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mo tai Kickboxing, karate, and bushido. Plus several types of dance. Which have allowed me to develop a unique fighting style." She responded. The conversation was well received and she enjoyed it to the point she didn't even realize the bowl before her was empty. It stayed as she folded her hands over it waiting for a response from Ire. “Blimy it looks like I am in for a run for my money.” he smiled realising that he was not joking as the styles and disciplines that she had mentioned meant that she probably wipe the floor with him with ease, but you learn by getting back up again and so he would learn something new each time. “But yes anytime you are free that would be great.” She nodded letting herself get caught up on the conversation. "I love martial arts the way one movement flows into the next. I tend to study new styles till I've nearly mastered them then move to another. To me it's like a song using the body other than words. As beautiful as it can be deadly." “That’s why I like zero-g martial arts. It's very precise movements which balance out each other so that you can strike or move where you want to be rather than spinning all over the place in the wrong direction.” "Other than than that I like to sing." She stopped realizing she went to far. She did not want the crew finding out about her past career. It was difficult but she had purposely kept from singing, even though it brought her the most happiness. “You sing.” he smiled. “Can carry a tune but I would not be winning any contests.” "Yes, I do…" she chuckled sweetly. "I'm rather proud of my voice. Although I dont sing much since joining the Federation again." Again she let her past slip. "When I sing now it's more reserved for when I truly want to express myself. I love to sing and when I do. I consider it a great gift to give someone something so personal. As the saying goes 'the entire width and breath of a person can be given in a song.'" “So you were part of Starfleet before. What made you want to leave if you don’t mind me asking?” "There were many reasons" she spoke softly remembering the children from that dark mission. "Let's just say me and the Starfleet didn't see eye to eye." Ire nodded at that. “I can understand that.” “How are you finding Mars and the Mystique is it all you expected? *in seeing what happened after I left Starfleet I was not surprised by Mars or the Mystique. I'm settling in, the intelligence base as given me a place to work in peace." She purposely stayed away from any mention of Luma knowing that would be a touchy subject. "How about you? Is everything as you expected?" “Not really. I knew Mars was going to be hard and that we would be building from the ground up but I am flying fighters that are over seventy year old. They are a death trap waiting to happen to some else. But they are what we have and we will use them to the best of our ability although it would be nice to have something more modern. I guess if we wanted an easy life we would have join the Federation Naval Patrol.” "Hopefully you'll be getting new fighters shortly. But, I know the feeling that's why that base is so important there are secrets that have been hidden out in the depths of space, and I will find them and bring them back to mars and the Federation maybe once Starfleet as regained its former glory it can be done with me." Ire paused for a moment before asking. “What type of secrets do you think are out here?” "New Technology, weapons, shields, the list is endless." She did not wish to bring up a sensitive subject like SFI knowing that Luma might be listening. "But here is not the place to be talking of such things." “That makes sense and also having new teck would mean that we are not as defenceless as we are at the moment. So that we can defend ourselves but also have the ability to go back out into space agai like we did before.” "We will get there." She sighed as looked around the mess hall measuring the antiquated ship they were on. "First we need to become relevant again. Cut the amount of time done and catch up on our research, and are ability to defend what we discover." “Yes we can’t just go wandering off into the deep black. It would be the quickest way to get use all killed and then where would earth be a wing of depaidated fighters. I know that slow and steady will get us there in the end but it would be nice just to go out now. I know that we are going Trill but to go for deep exploration again like Starfleet did in the past would be wonderful.” "We may just be there sooner than expected. We cant stay at Mars forever, but we need to move smarter now more than ever. The dangers we will face will be great but also the rewards. I know people you know were hurt or worse when the pirates attacked Mars. But that is only the beginning more will be asked to sacrifice and to accomplish extraordinary feats. I know because I have walked in those shoes. Some feelings never go away, and once you've lived though enough of them you can recognize certain patterns." “I guess when we get the Republic out of dock it will help a lot. It will be good to have another starship in orbit and I hope that we can get more of the ships out into space. I am sure that there are hulls in Utopia Planitia that we can get space worthy quickly.” "There are the entire fleet needs to be brought up to date. Which in its self is a vast undertaking. If we take things one step at a time we will continue to move forward." "But enough of that, how are you getting along with our fellow ensign's?" Ire paused for a moment. “I am lucky to have a good group of pilots that I work with. Unfortunately I have been working like crazy since we arrived in Mars so I have not had a chance to meet people outside my department which is why it is nice to meet other people like yourself.” She smiled. "It is nice to meet new people. I'm just surprised at how quickly people have already fallen into relationships." Ire smiled back. “I know what you mean. As people seem to be getting together very fast. You think there must be something in the replicator or something.” She laughed because she felt the same way. Jaelle learned long ago to take matters of the heart slowly, and five it the time it needed. She missed the feeling of having someone there to stand beside her to tell her everything was going to be alright. Anything more than that was a dream she gave up on so long ago. "I just hope they are careful we dont need new cadets that badly." “I hope medical have it covered or we will have to get a creche on the ship and open a nursery on Mars” He grinned. Her hands dropped to her stomach, "yeah a nursery." As she spoke her voice trailed off. Truth was she was envious of the other female ensigns they would grow old have families. Things that Jaelle would never know. Ire noticed her gesture and realised that he had mentioned something that Jaelle might not want to talk about. “Um how was your stew.” he said trying to change the subject onto something more neutral. "It was good. How was your curry? I'm sorry something's are sensitive and they always will be. It's not your fault." “Every one of us has our own burdens to carry. Some we can share and some we will keep till our dying breath but only you can know when the time is right. Don’t worry I understand.” he smiled sadly at her. "These are things I've learned to live with." She sighed. "I heard the counselors are going on a head hunt. Did they get you yet for your psyc. eval." “Yes I had a nice session with an Ensign Cortez who did my eval. I am still here so they did not find anything too crazy or maybe that are just so short on ensigns and desperate that I got through….what sort of head hunt do you mean?” "I don't care much for counselors since most of them want to poke around in my head. Which quite frankly I've had enough of." “I can understand that someone in your line of work would not be happy with people poking around your head. Unfortunately for me I have to have them quite often as it's not good for someone flying a starship or a fighter going off the deep end and doing something crazy.” Nods. "I understand they have a place but I just don't trust them. Same reason I have issues with medical. After you've been poked and prodded long enough get tired of it all and no longer wish to deal with any of it.” “I can see why they could be the case. I guess though as we are members of starfleet there are some standing orders that we can’t get around even if we wanted to.” "That's true." She smiled. "Never told me how was your curry. I smelled delicious." “It was a recipe of the friends of the family and when I am needing something to think of home I always get it." "So, what's going on that is leaving you feeling homesick." “My parents were fleet. I grew up on the USS Roadrunner with them before it was lost during the Geneva evacuation but I was away with my Aunt at the time. They would have loved this trip to Trill, us being back out traveling the stars going to new places and exploring new civilisation. I know Trill is not unexplored but most of us on board have never been here. So for us it's an unexplored world.” “I have been in no less than three first contact situations. There is a certain amount of excitement about the unknown and exotic. Like you said while Trill is not a new race it's still a place most of this crew have never been to." “Have you been to Trill before. My Aunty never had a cargo run nearby but never actually got there. I hear it's quite a fascinating place.” "No I've never been, most of my time was spent on the outer fringes of Federation space." “So it looks like we'll be exploring Trill together.” Ire smiled. “Unless they don’t let us off the ship. Intel I can understand but I am one of the backup pilots so I will probably be sitting up here in orbit while everyone else has a party down be low.” He gave a slight grin and shook his head. "I'll do what I can do get you down there, if there is gonna be a party you will be part of it." “That's very kind but I will have to clear it with the Boss before both of us are planet side. I mean we do have other pilots in the team but there are shifts and other people going planet side to consider.” "True, but everyone deserves a chance to experience something new." “That is true but we will have to see when we get into orbit. There could be any number of reasons why we can’t go down.” “I realised that I have not asked you how you are finding the other Ensigns. Sorry I have just been talking about myself.” "I tend to keep to myself. Most are just starting out there careers and I have such a history. It's kinda hard to relate at times. But a I've talked to a few. I get to know more of the crew once se reach Trill or back on Mars." “I do find it a bit hard sometimes when some of the crew who have not left the solar system get so excited about every little thing. I know it makes me sound like a grumpy old man and I know that I was just as bad when it was my first time. I think part of it is that it should not have taken this long for us to be back out here and it's a bit sad that this is all new and adventurous when it should be almost routine but it's a start” "We should of never left, never should have abandoned our morals to create such a power vacuum. Taking so long to learn for or mistake was criminal." “ I totally agree maybe it was the fact that I have been away from earth alot more than I have been on it but from the outside it was easier to see the collapse of the Federation or at least its aftermath. I guess distance has its perspective that living on earth people might not have had.” "The collapse of the Federation effected everyone differently. It created a new sector hierarchy in a short amount of time. Such big changes normally leave things volatile." “Yes but not just for earth but for all the planets in the federation that were relying on mutual dependency when then had to fend for themselves when it all came tumbling down and they were left out in the cold. It makes for some dangerous enemies who feel bitter and angry about the situation that they were facing and how much it was the federations and earth fault.” "Exactly I'm sure we are on more than one planets hit list. I just wish there was more that could be done. I hope this mission goes well and we can reestablish ourselves. What do you think?." She stood from her seat to stretch her legs and get a drink walking over to the replicator she looked back to Ire. "Did you want anything?" “Yes it would be nice to have more friends. Can I have a lady Gray tea please.” She nodded As she placed an order into the replicator. "One water and one Lady Gray tea, please." Their drinks appeared in short order and she crossed back to Ire placing his tea before him. Hopefully I can be counted among that group." Ire smiled as he sipped his tea. “Yes of course but it depends if you want a crazy pilot as one of yours.” "Sometimes crazy is needed." He grinned. “Hopefully not too often but when you do I am here.” She checked the time on her PADD she had already stayed to long and needed to make rounds before getting a little shut eye before the morning shift. "I'm sorry but I have to go, but it really was a pleasure talking to you Ire." He smiled “You too. It was nice having lunch with you but you are right I also need to go back to the bridge before my relief starts thinking that I have disappeared. Have a good night.” They both parted their separate ways as friends. In a place in time when people needed all the friends they could ask for. "If you ever get a chance to visit Echo Earth you can, but it's expected no technology be brought to the surface, and you wear appropriate attire. Even when I go back, I'm not allowed to wear my uniform." Ire nodded. “It must be nice in a way to go back to basics and not be reliant lots of technology.” Quinna in the past spent most of her time focused on her education. She never experiences more that outside her little small town with her grandmother and brother. She had heard of communities that stayed pure of technology, however she never experienced it. She just sat back and listened to the conversation with nothing to contribute. “Echo Earth sound very similar to Carraya IV, the colony where I grew up, they had pushed away advanced technology at first, but opportunistic groups sought to take advantage of them. They needed a certain level of technology to repel pirates and raiders, that sort of thing. The galaxy is a very different place once the Federation retracted.” She said as she hefted a spoonful of chicken soup. (Reply Foster) “Tell me, Boone. I made a Romulan knife for Ravok, the blade was ba’akonite. We also have a reasonable supply of duranium and tritanium as well as Martian iron. When he hasn't been on duty he has been here checking in on you. Though, I think I told him about 3o minutes ago he needed to go to bed. The poor idiot, was here during the procedure with his sister, before going and pulling a 12 hour shift on the bridge." Ailynn tried to shift herself into a comfortable position, but failed, the ‘pins and needles’ hurt way too much. Slowly, and rather painfully, she felt herself come back to a semblance of normality, “anyone else?” she was afraid to ask, though she had no real reason to worry. “Sienna?” "As for the sister, well I can't be certain, but I'm not sure she ever left. She may even be in the waiting room right now, not certain. I've been in the on call room in the back, napping periodically throughout the day. The other doctors and I have taken turns monitoring sick bay and monitoring your vitals." “Okaaay…Soooo…Let’s not sugarcoat it. Hit me.” Ailynn said, shrugging as she still tried to shift her body. “Damned beds are….” "Now then, on to the technical aspects. You have a severe food allergy to Trill grains. So, next time you are on Trill, you might consider a diet of fruit, vegetables, meats, and no grains. It was rather severe. Caused inflammation throughout the body, and damage to your medulla oblangata, just as you suspected. Your stem cells were damaged, and any replicated ones ran the risk of incurring the same damage to the system, even after flushing the grains out. You needed a transplant to repair the damage and repair your own cells. We found a donor, and were able to get everything back to normal. It is safe to say you will make a full recovery. All thanks to your old classmate and fellow bajoran, human chimera, Ashlyn Jones." “Ash? How…I don’t…Look…” She regarded Ryelle. “I’m stupidly tired, and I need to see my…” Every sentence spilled out of her mouth at once. "Now then, you are free to go visit with your friends, get something to eat, but we'd like to keep you in sickbay overnight for observation. Also, please avoid all grains for the next two weeks as a precautionary measure, give the body time to heal. Now then, go tell the worry worts you still live." She nodded, “Ryelle…We’ll talk properly when we have leisure; but thank you.” (Reply Ryelle only IYW) After Ryelle left, Ailynn pulled on a set of her standard underwear and habitual scrubs, both from the replicator within arms reach. Then, barefoot, she slipped off the biobed, and out the bay, slipping into the adjacent family room. Her girlfriend, it still gave her a tingle to even think it. Sienna had dozed off, a victim no doubt of how much worry and stress. Ailynn smiled, and stepped over to the replicator, and tapped out the order for Sienna’s favourite coffee. The drink materialised on the shelf, picking it up, she carried it over to the futon, and after sitting down, carefully held it under Sienna’s nose. Smiling lovingly as Sienna began to stir. But having been among humans for so long, you can call me whatever you like, as long as you don't call me late for dinner." Ryelle smiled. He loved that old Earth joke. What did they call it, a dad joke. "Yes, I have heard it a few times before. Yes, it is a bad joke. Sorry sir." Ohitika repled "It's kind of quiet at the moment, and our acting department head is indisposed at the moment. Why don't you take the evening off. I hear ten forward is a pretty happening place right now. We've got the rest of the journey back to Mars to put you to work. Go have fun, unpack. Rest." The computer chirped that the program was ready so she entered. The gymnastic floor reminded her of the one back in Betazed when she trained for Cheer-leading and gymnastic competitions. She said to herself that the program was good. She wore a pink and purple competition leotard.with sparkling glitter all over. She started to warm up by doing some a string of handsprings on the floor. She did a few more runs with a full layout or two then returned to the edge of the floor to drink some iced. There was a lot still to do when I left and it is still there to be completed. We have had what seems to be a fairly successful trip to Trill, although I suspect the Admiralty may see it a different way. The line that the Admiral has toed, which gains us favour with both the Andorians & the Trill without bringing either back into the fold officially is bound to ruffle some feathers, but it has my backing. I have already began planning what it will look like for Mars to supplement this new base, once it's build with Security & Tactical provisions if they're needed. A job which is now a much easier task due to the extra personnel that have been send to Mars under my command by the MAJCOM. It seems Lt. Colonel Tillwell has included several extra squadrons worth of Starfleet personnel, along with allowing for civilian contractors to also take up several of the postings which will only add a level of experience which will be sorely needed. A Mr. Sytuk and Mr. Caonrobh seem to be the civilians with the most experience and I am planning on meeting with them as soon as we return. I have also been impressed by Ensign Saarsgard and will be recommending to the Admiral that he becomes a permenant addition to the Security staff." Carson paused and thought about why they'd been asked to complete the Departmental Head Logs for the Admiral and realised he hadn't spoken much about the goings on throughout the mission, "Returning to the matter of Trill, the only things I can think to make note of is the SIR that had to be filled in for Ensign Ire Williams and questionning of Ensign Erin Cortez in relation to the same incident. However naive I believe Ensign Cortez was in allowing herself to be pulled away from the public eye I do think that both she and Ensign Williams acted in the correct manor and have stated so in my report. Upon travelling down to the planet and speaking with the Police captain in charge of the precinct dealing with the complaint from the two adolescent Trill, I was able to speak with them and pass over the footage which exhonorated both officers and doomed the adolescents to an inevitable hardship in the eyes of the Trill people. Not only did these two young men, attack and an injur a Starfleet Officer who was trying to help them, they almost succeeded in throwing the Diplomatic efforts of people far superior to themselves under the figerative bus. Ensign Taya was also attacked whilst on the planet and I passed on my sincerest apologies to her that I was unable to assist in anyway to keep her safe during that incident. I have now reviewed off-ship shore leave protocols for Starfleet Officers whilst we are in orbit around non-Federation controlled worlds. The buddy system is to be used in all circumstances and personnel are required to check in on a 2 hourly basis via the comm system. I will not stand for any of my colleagues to be attacked and vulnerable like this again." Carson took a breath and looked around the office, twisted his neck and then finished, "End Acting Assistant Head of Security supplemental log and save." His gaze was intense as she solidified and when the transport was complete he nodded. "So you're Rosen I presume? His voice was rough and the syllables clipped. “Ensign Ansia Rosen if you don’t mind” she replied. She was not at ease with this individual. The entire situation did not feel right.. "Good…," he replied, "... you're a little early but we can accommodate you. We don't get sealed cases to hand deliver often. I'll have it brought in and you can leave." He activated the comm as she stepped off the pad. "Ensign Rosen is here to make the pick up, bring the case in." “Thank you, I would love to get back to Mars.” she replied as she stood off to the side to wait. It was a couple of minutes before the door opened and another man entered. He walked toward her with a critical gaze, his bald head was tanned as though he spent a lot of time in the sun and he had piercing blue eyes. "Ensign Rosen it is. Thank you for coming so speedily." “Your name pls? It seemed that the transfer was needed urgently, so I came.” Her mental abilities were tingling as she could feel danger. “Do you have the case so i can return pls.?” "The case? Oh yes the case." The thin smile didn't reach his eyes. "The case was a ruse to get you here and I prefer not giving out my name." He lifted his right hand and exposed the small phaser he had palmed. He was well out of reach. "You are going on a little trip with us. The phaser is set to heavy stun as is the one my compatriot is now holding. "All will be made clear in time and don't worry, you will be safely delivered to my employer. No improprieties will be allowed. You are going to be well taken care of though you won't remember the trip" “I am not of any importance why are you taking me?" The phasers whined almost in unison and she was dropped in mid movement. The bald man stepped over and removed her combadge then searched her and removed any other devices before turning to the other. "See to her sedation and lockdown as per the agreement. Continuous surveillance." He activated a comm and spoke as the big man was picking Rosen from the floor. "Cut lateral thrusters." He then opened a channel to the station. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles and Kierya) (USS Mystique – Sickbay, CMOs office– Dr. Kyros Ryelle, Dr. Quinna Solice, Dr. Ailynn Bracken, and Ashlyn Jones- 1700) This was going to be an odd conversation for Ryelle to have. Especially since it involved his boss. But it was a medical mystery and he was interested in solving it. Especially since it seemed like neither of the two women involved knew what was going on. Luckily in his time as a monk he had done some spiritual direction for pilgrims and he felt like he could handle this situation. The reality is, both women would need to see a counselor when all was said and done. Normally Ryelle wouldn’t give this information with a counselor present, but the Admiral recommended it and Quinna was both doctor and counselor. Bringing her in made sense. Quinna sat reading the PADD she had in her hand. She looked at Ryelle. She noted that he did seem rather calm, but wondered what was really going on inside. He was about to deliver news of a lifetime. Quinna tried to picture the support she needed to supply. She tried to think what it would be like if she received the same news. She thought of too many possibilities. “Dr. Bracken, Ms. Jones, thank you for meeting with us.” Ailynn had sat down next to Ash. She was still horribly tired, thankfully, the procedure had gone well, and her scans seemed to be slowly returning to normal as the damage was repaired by the transfusion. Ash herself was more subdued than normal, but in her own quiet way, she sat back and despite looking a touch worried, embarrassed even, was just herself. Dimly, Ailynn wondered why she had never noticed how strong a character she had always been. “Now, you may be curious why I asked to meet with you both, why is Dr. Solice here. Well, lets just say that there have been some developments since we began testing, something that both of you need to know. Dr. Solice is here, because while I know how to explain the science, but not the emotional aspect of it all.” Ailynn winced slightly as she sat down, her body was still stiff; the muscle atrophy hadn’t yet properly gone. She smiled gently, uncharacteristically shyly at Ashlyn. They’d known each other for a long time, of course, but it was only in recent days, and weeks that she’d truly got to know Ashlyn. “Ash…” She spoke gently, shrugging at her abnormal loss of words. “Thank you.” Ash had taken her seat, more than puzzled at this. Ailynn was sat to her left, and seemed at ease. Ash herself wasn’t but reached out and squeezed Lynn’s hand when she spoke her thanks. It had cost Ash nothing, but she’d been more than glad to help. For this moment though, she was ill at ease. "Miss Jones, Dr. Bracken, there is no easy way to say this, so I'm just going to pull the bandaid off so to speak." Quinna sat silently. She was watching for reactions. "Miss Jones, you told me that you were not related to Dr. Bracken and that your mother was Bajoran. However given what we discovered, for future health issues it is important for you both to know this. Miss Jones an analysis of your DNA indicates that your mother was human and father bajoran. Not just that but based off of the mitochondrial DNA and other genetic markers, the data indicates that you are in fact Dr. Bracken's maternal aunt." Ailynn shook her head. She turned to Ashlyn and watched the blood drain out of her face, Ash's complexion had gone deathly pale. It's not possible Ryelle" Ailynn spoke. "Mum's an only child and her father had no other family, he was lost with the rest of the crew of the Onyx." “Ash would be your mother’s half sister Dr. Bracken.” Quinna at that moment heard the preamble to an explosion. She put her PADD down as she waited. Ailynn picked up the PADD on the table and opened it, running through the report at her normal high speed. Becoming irritated, she put it down, before picking it up again and reading carefully. She turned quickly round to Ashlyn and snapped at her. "Did you know about this?" Ashlyn sat, still deathly pale, shaking her head. Her whole body was cold, clammy and trembling. "Ailynn, I swear…" Ash looked at the two other medics, her voice cracking and filling up. "Mum wasn't mum?" “Lets take a moment before look at the facts.” Quinna started. Anything after the news they were given would only seem dimishing. “We can find out the details later but right now you two found out you were family.” These things always seemed to be close to an old Hallmark movie where the impossibilies are real. “Focus on the immediate relationship.” Replies for Ash and Ailynn “You two found a new relationship in eachother. Before we can deal with the hows, deal with eachother.” Quinna suggested. “And Dr. Bracken, I did the research, Miss Jones would have no reason to know she was your aunt. All her paperwork would point to her being the biological daughter of Mr. Osirin and Mrs Kadaya Jones.” Ryelle paused, “Look I’m a doctor not a counselor, which is why Dr. Solice is here. I’m more apt to counsel the spiritual realities of change, not the psychological. But yes the reality is, you are family and, Dr. Solice I hope I’m not screwing this up, but I echo what she said, you are in the together. This is a mystery, but a mystery that you are not alone in. Yes your reality has changed, but you are not alone. You have each other. You have your friends.” Ailynn nodded, her face showing the tiniest of smiled though largely impasse, turning round she looked at Ashlyn. Ash's face was sad, forlorn, Ailynn saw a blush fill her neck and enliven her cheeks. ~does she?~ Ailynn found herself wondering. Qunna nodded in agreement. “The counseling staff is at your disposal. Miss Jones we will make an exception for you as a civilian and allow you full access to Starfleet counseling staff. However if you prefer to switch to a civilian counselor when we return to Mars, I understand completely. I also recommened telling your close friends the news. Your friends love you, and care for you, and want to be there for you, you just need to let them. Dr. Solice do you have anything to add?” “I think we need to give you time to talk to each other wihout us,” Quinna indicating Ryelle and her herself. “My door is always open if you need to talk.” Ashlyn shook her head, "no, please, if it's okay with Ailynn I want to hear the facts, I mean she gets to read it all, but I don't? I'm not clever enough because I don't have a fancy job title and a rank?" “Miss Jones, no one is saying you aren’t clever. You have a sterling reputation amongst your peers…” Ryelle said before being cut off. "No you listen." A feeling had stirred in her, a feeling that she was trying to suppress, but was failing. She’d always been jealous of her 'friends' though now she spat the word with as much venom as yesterday she would have done love. She snapped her head round to Ailynn, she was furious. "Guess I'll just make it easy on your beloved familie's conscience. I'm out of here, I'm gone. You had all the opportunity the support, the love. I had all the abuse, and guess what, you've taken the one good thing I had and killed her. Well good for you, I'm going as soon as I can. I'll be out of YOUR way. I can only imagine the disgust that YOUR PRECIOUS BLOODY FAMILY holds me in now. Well guess what dear neice…" her temper utterly snapped. "THE FEELING IS MUTUAL." the last sentence was shouted a foot away from Ailynn’s face; and she looked petrified. Ash stood up suddenly. "Out of my way." She snapped to noone directly, before striding straight out the door, still ablaze with anger. Ailynn let the tears run fully, and fell to her knees, bawling her eyes out. She managed a sentence, awkward through the emotion. "I swear...I...didn't...know…" she held up a hand to the closing door. "Ashlyn?...please…?" “Miss Jones?” Ryelle said, hoping she would turn around. “I recommend finding a friend or someone to talk to. You are valued, do not suffer alone.” Dimly, Ash heard voices emanating from the room she had just left, but she didn't hear or listen to any of them. Ryell then turned back to Ailynn. “Dr. Bracken, I don’t think she meant what she said. You have to understand. The only family she ever had, has been in a way taken from her. She needs time to stew. Dr. Solice, I assume this is normal behavior, correct?” “Problem is, this is not a normal situation. But the reaction is not unexpected. I think right now she needs to cool off.” Quinna offered, “I will go check up on her in a couple of hours.” “Give her time, maybe you should go get some rest. Ok?” Ryelle asked concerned. Ailynn nodded devoid of any happy feeling. Her mood was sinking quickly. Her family had done something, something so bad she was deeply ashamed of her name. Beyond that, she had seen someone, a girl she had grown up with, the gentlest, kindest soul she had ever met, reduced to utter inarticulate fury. That cut her to the core too. "If I may? I need time." She got up, smiling a thanks to each of her colleagues, then left. As Ailynn left, Ryell turned to Quinna. “I could use a drink, do you want a drink, I could use a drink.” “Maybe we can make it a double,” Quinna retorted. Ryelle walked to the replicator and came back with two glasses of Saurian brandy. "I honestly have no idea where they go from here. Was telling them the right thing?" Ryelle handed Quinna the glass. Taking a wift of her drink, Quinna looked up, “You could not hold it from them. They had to know,” After a small sip, “Don’t let their reaction ever doubt that.” "You're a good person, Quinna, with a good heart. I'm glad you were here with me." “Any time.” (Reply none) (posted by Kris, Mark, and Will) (USS Mystique – Personal Quarters(sep locations) aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken and Civ Logistics and Liaison Ashlyn Jones - 2330) (Personal Quarters - Ailynn) Ashlyn stormed into her tiny quarters, her mood, still furious, and grabbed an irreplacable handmade glass vase, and threw it at the opposite wall. She had no idea why Ailynn should be the focus of her wrath, but focus...she was. She began pacing. THat in itself irritated her. She wasn’t on balance of it all, a pacer.
