Charles purchased the ranch as part of an estate sale when one of his mentors died years prior. He also got to keep anything and everything found on the property which included an old Starfleet runabout and a custom shoulder holster harness with twin disruptor pistols made to look like pistols carried by soldiers of the American Civil War, and a pair of Bowie knives; all of which were sheathed in the harness. As a civilian, Charles worked as a Private Investigator and as a Bounty Hunter; but he was also a Starfleet Reservist. While sitting in his favorite rocking chair talking business with his friend, Keoki Gabriel, from the Federation Department of Law Enforcement, Charles noticed as set of slowly descending toward their location. Keoki was working on a PADD, double-checking some documentation as he spoke, “Chuck, I don’t get it. Why do the P.I. thing and the Reserves when you make so much hunting down low-lifes?” As the descending lights get closer, Tamblyn begins to recognize it as a Starfleet shuttle and thinks to himself ‘oh, crap. This can’t be good.’ Turning and focusing on his friend, he replies “The ranch isn’t intended to earn anything, the P.I. gig more than pays ALL of the bills, Bounty Hunting is fun money and retirement, and the Reserves just gives me a one weekend a month change of pace.” The shuttle lands far enough from the house that the dust kicked up doesn’t disturb anyone, and a figure in uniform gets off the shuttle and begins walking toward the house. As Tamblyn watches, he gets up and walks around behind the beverage bar. As Keoki was about to respond, he looks in the direction that Tamblyn is looking and follows his friend to the bar where Charles is putting three glasses on the bar and pulls out a bottle of whiskey and begins pouring the drinks as the uniformed figure gets to the first step going up to the porch. Charles recognizes the uniformed man as Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael Ipock. As he steps onto the porch, Ipock says “Chuck, Keoki; how y’all doing this evening?” Charles and Keoki respond in kind and shake hands with the man. As he turns to Tamblyn and begins to say something, Charles holds a glass of whiskey out to the Senior Chief and says “Mike, I’ll buy you a drink if you do not say anything for the next two minutes.” With a nod of his head, he accepted the drink. “Keoki, is that ready for signatures yet?” Charles asks as he pours another round of drinks. Keoki turns the PADD toward Charles, “Here you go Chucky, 75-thousand. Not bad for a day’s work.” Charles laughs as he replies, “It’s 100-thousand. Read the fine print; there is a 25-thousand bonus if he can still talk.” At which point Keoki smiled at his friend and pointed to the bottom line that showed the total of 100-thousand credits. Charles looked at the number, smiled, and placed his thumb on the PADD using his thumbprint as his signature. With their business completed, Charles and Keoki turned toward Mike. “So, what’s up?” Keoki asked. Ipock handed Tamblyn a PADD and says, “Chief Tamblyn, I am here to inform you will be going to the Mars Facility.” “And why in the hell would I want to do that?” Charles replied as he starts reading the PADD. “Chief, I am not here to argue with you. Those are your orders; you have 62 hours to report to the Admiral.” As he refilled the three glasses, “Roger that, Senior-Chief”. Charles then raised his glass and added, “Gentlemen, for God and Freedom.” The other two raised their glasses as well and all three downed their drinks. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles (the other one)) (Runabout – Rear Cabin - SO Ensign Sienna Wiliams-Verin– 12:17) Sienna listened as the Admiral spoke. She was staring out the window, seeing ships that she had heard about in the past. The Mystique, the Hades, the Spectre... Ships her parents and their friends had served on. Historic ships. She stared particularly at the Mystique, remembering something that her mother had once mentioned. She would need to see what shape that ship was in and if she could get aboard it before she mentioned it. Sekal was speaking about a crystal that he had been given that would solve all heir power needs if they could make it work. He was more what the Admiral needed, not her. Sure she was okay at a lot of things, but she was not the specialists that the admiral was looking for. She felt intimidated by Sekal and worried about her place here. Her face must have reflected that because the Admiral then turned to her. "Ensign Williams-Verin. I overheard you mention that you specialised in botany. I was hoping that I can persuade you to take up a different kind of challenge. I’ve recently learned that our other senior science officer, Ensign Alyl is in sickbay so I am afraid you are both more short handed than before.”, he paused for a moment before adding, “I am afraid this particular area of science is a little bit out of my league but I’d like you to investigate setting up a Life Sciences Department on Mars. Some goals could include improving our food supplies. Plant sciences could be a focus, as we’re receiving large numbers of new staff, I’d like them to not rely on just replicators or shipments from Earth.”, The Admiral said it like it was a suggestion, but she had enough experience in her life that this was more an order than a thought. Could she do it? She might be able to. Things were an absolute mess on the base. "Admiral, I'm sure that you have noticed the large number of lab animals that are loose on the base. Not just animals, but other science specimens. We need to contain those first. But as for improving our food supplies, I can do that. We have the bays already to do so, and many of the grains and soy based products would do wonders for oxygenation. Dual purposes as it is." The Admiral continued his orders. “I am also open to any suggestions from you about our environmental impact on Mars. It has been partially terraformed, as you know but the environment impact of our increasing its population is something I know little about. Could you help with that?”, he concluded what he wanted to say but then added, “Of course, we need your expertise on the environmental systems of all our ships, stations and base facilities. We need to bring them up to speed.”, he said finally finishing. Sienna nodded again, ideas brimming n her mind as he spoke, "I did a lot of research into environmental systems in the academy in the hopes of retrofitting the technology. " She reached up and scratched her nose, which caused some of the dirt to flake off. "I was working on the algae system the base used before the meetig, sorry I couldn't take time to clean up. There is some work that needs to be done with the refresher units as well. At least the ones that I've seen run off -water- and I'm not sure that is good for the ecosystem, I don't know what the purifier units look like yet. Likely they will need work too." She sighed. "I can see the vision that you have for this place, Sir but it's going to take months of hard work to get there. " She had been always told by her parents that you were supposed to tell the truth, even difficult truths. "I really want to be a part of it though. This is going to be pretty amazing when it's done. Do either of you know the state of Betazed? They have some newly developed plants I would like to get access to." Sienna sat back as she listened to them talk, thinking hard. She turned back to look outside, seeing a lake. Was it stocked? fish was an excellent protein. But then another thought occurred to her. And she needed to voice this worry. "Ah, Admiral Sir? What about the politics? Do we have the support of most of starfleet at least? I know we won't have all of it, but... are they ...the ones that caused the incident...how likely are they to sabotage us? I'm sorry, Sir, but I'm scared." Her Mother had always told her that it was a good thing to admit your fears in order to acknowledge them and move past them so that they didn't cripple you. (Reply Grek, Trip, Ire) (Posted By Andrew Rock) (Mars surface- Officers Mess and Arboretum- SO- Ensign Sienna Williams- Verin and Ensign Sekal- 1305) The two veered towards the officers mess, to order their lunches. Sienna was in the mood for comfort food, so she ordered a 3 grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato, and a crock of tomato basil soup. She was really hungry, so she added apple slices with peanut butter and a covered mug of mocha coffee. She replicated a basket to put her food and utensils in. She added a blanket as well, glancing over at Sekal who was using another replicator to order. The Vulcan had considered the choices carefully according to his dietary needs which had been made more difficult by the hubbub of raised voices as he had expected. The 'cacophony' as he had formerly described it was very much in force but either it had died down by the time he made his choice or he was becoming used to it. The replicator opened to reveal an Italian medley of vegetables drizzled with a light extra virgin olive oil on a platter that was larger than expected. The smell was not unpleasant. He had considered trying his father's favorite of orange juice but opted instead for unsweetened iced tea. His choices were unusual certainly but this was his first day and he had chosen to 'Go Roman' in every sense of the phrase. Platter and glass then in hand he followed his compatriot. She led him down through the five foot passages between the airlocks that were no longer necessary and into the large, more airy sciences building, then to the park. It was a beautiful place, about two acres of overgrown forest. She spread out the blanket by the pond and sat down. There were sounds of insects and animals in the grass. When this place was cleaned up, it would be a wonderful place for the officers to relax and recharge. Not quite shore leave but a good place. The arboretum space here was more a research than a place for the masses. He placed his choices and silverware on the blanket, considered the available space and sat with his long crossed legs on the opposite side from her so that their food was between them. "Can you tell me a bit about what you were talking to the Admiral about? Was it something your Dad discovered? Who is your Dad anyway? I guess we should get our impressive pedigrees out of the way before we get down to serious talks." She began to unpack her lunch, arranging her food around her, sipping the soup before taking a bite of her ooey, gooey, yummy grilled cheese. She could taste the butter it had been grilled in. Someone had programmed that replicator well. He looked over at her as he considered the questions. There was no choice to be evasive since he had decided that the crystal was now in essence StarFleet property. Whether his father would agree with that assessment remained to be seen so he attempted to answer them in order. "The Anelurian Crystal as it is called was discovered by Vulcans manning a research ship called the Nahru. My father's parents were aboard it as was he. This was before he entered StarFleet. The crystal was given to him by the science personnel on that ship and was then merely a curiosity." "Much has been discovered about it since that time however." "Before I answer your other questions I must first gauge your knowledge. "Do you understand how a dilithium crystal functions in the matter/antimatter intermix chamber?" Sienna nodded, "Yes, my Dad's an engineer. I'm not a warp mechanic specialist but I understand the basics." She was eating rapidly, and for such a small being she was putting away a large amount of food. She sipped her mocha, the chocolate in it soothing the inner betazoid. "You haven't told me your father's name yet." She was getting ahead of him, her mind seeming to move rapidly from one concept to the next. The terran term 'flighty' came to mind. "Then you will understand that a nearly twenty five percent efficiency improvement over dilithium crystals is a significant step... however the crystals have another property that has been documented which serves to enhance the power increase by multiplying it by a factor of ten." But..." He held up his hand to forestall her inevitable questions. "...the interaction of those two properties is not..." He lifted an eyebrow. "...logical." "My father has classified it as an enigma and until it is understood the development of technology around it has been forestalled." He held up his hand again. "I will explain everything in a more convenient setting such as the labs." "As for my father. his name is Saleke and he is formerly a Captain in StarFleet but now serves in the Vulcan Defense Fleet. He began his commission as a science officer as I have." Sienna's eyes widened, "NO WAY! Your Dad's THE famous Captain Saleke of the Hades? Really? We read about him in school. My Dad, Admiral Duke Williams knows him, I think. My Mom's Captain Sophie Verin, strat ops. She is doing a lot with the refugees and orphans from the Incident." Sienna had a sad look as she remembered the incident and her brother losing his best friend. He shrugged. "My father would certainly disagree on the term famous. He was the Hades initial commanding officer but there are others who have distinguished themselves on her as well." An eyebrow rose as he repeated the superscription contained on the plaque on a wall in his father's home office. "And I looked and behold a pale horse, and he that sat upon him was called Death and Hades followed with him." "From a terran holy book I believe." He considered taking a moment to eat but now was not the time. "Your father an Admiral and your mother a captain... an impressive... I believe the proper term is pedigree though I understand it may also be applied to animals and can be construed as offensive." "Did you lose anyone in the Incident?" Soon enough all the food was gone, at least on Sienna's side. They still needed to talk about the labs and the mess there, but she appreciated getting to know this stuffy, intimidating Vulcan. "No, all of my family was on Vulcan at the time. My mother is an ambassador to the UFP but was on her off cycle." He surmised that the look on her face denoted an emotional response to the subject and deduced she had known someone or perhaps a number who had lost their lives. "Have you seen the labs? They are worse than other places here, but with a lot of help we can get you a warp lab up and running. Unless you would rather work on one of the ships. I bet one of the ships has what you need. I think I even saw your Dad's Hades." He shook his head. It appeared the change of subject may have beneficial in raising her mood. "First we must restore power to the labs followed by cleaning out the environmental systems." "If we work quickly we should be able to get them running sufficiently that we can inventory the labs tomorrow." He had been too busy answering questions to even lift his fork. "Tomorrow will be even busier than today, until we get certain labs running first to verify the findings of record that I have copies of any time spent on the warp drive applications will be wasted. As will a visit to the ships." With that he picked up said fork and began taste testing the cooling vegetables on his plate. And stopped cold. The ships... "I may possibly have been in error. The labs on the ships will have older technology but if IT has not been picked clean we might be able to gather some useful replacement parts or equipment." And he knew where to look. "But first we will have to determine what is needed here." (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles and Melinda Gatling) (Runabout, Rear Cabin, Sec/Tac Ensign jg Sanok, 1313) Ktell said, "Mr. Sanok? Comments? Suggestions?" Sanok didn't expect the admiral to directly address him, though he supposed it was logical. "Sir, I do not have anything to add at this time," said Sanok. "Your orders and instructions were clear, and the others have asked logical questions. Once we have studied the base and its records, we will have much to ask and report." Sanok was direct and to the point. It was his desire that his response was acceptable to the admiral. Sanok also realized, that he had been among his own people for the past 25 years, so he was not accustomed to speaking to people with emotions, and they might not be comfortable with the Vulcan way. Since he had once lived with his emotions, he would need to adjust to be more accommodating, though that would take time. (Sekal Respond please) (posted by Robert H) (Mars surface- Science laboratory annex- Science Officer- Ensign Sekal - 1339) The Arboreturm was near to the science labs and after disposing of the remains of his luncheon he had procured a torch as well as some basic tools and made his way there. As he entered the front portal with it's now unused airlock he noted that there was some dim lighting from strips at regularly spaced intervals which were operating at reduced efficiency. The solar panels which were once the primary source for lighting had no doubt been largely covered by decades of accumulated dust blown about by the often harsh martian winds. At one time before terraforming had taken hold according to the background information he had studied before coming here the thin atmosphere which had been primarily composed of carbon dioxide had routinely carried dust storms that blanketed the entire planet for months at a time during its summer season. Their effects had greatly abated with the introduction of plant species which served the added benefit of minimizing wind erosion of the surface but violent storms still appeared though proper warning would protect those on the ground here. Sekal made a mental note that meteorological services also needed to be restored post haste though it would be ancillary to the departments function but still a vital part. Orbital platforms such as Utopia Planitia would be instrumental but without a central nexus to process the data it was largely useless. Starting day conditions had been near flawless but that weather pattern could change with very little notice. The front of the labs boasted a reception area to which he paid little mind as he passed, the computer terminal behind the desk would not as yet be functional. He opened a manual door which exposed a corridor that he then followed while often using the torch to highlight the lettering above the doors he happened upon and wiping dust from them to determine their intended use. It took a great deal of exploring to locate the storage rooms and the generator annex. Why a generator assigned to the science labs? Some applications required enormous amounts of energy like the warp drive research facility and particle physics labs. It must be stated that a warp bubble could not and would not be created on the planet's surface due to the inherent dangers however components used for the systems were tested under tremendous loads of energy in order to test their durability. The generator could not supply for those needs alone but would supplement the base's primary source in order to not draw down its main supply too heavily and disrupt operations elsewhere. However at a time when the base itself was in need of power it would be more than sufficient to begin the process of putting the labs in order with a great deal beyond that. The generator appeared intact from a visual inspection and took up half of the space in the room. It would be fed from the base's water supply and reinforced tanks would hold the fuel gases. It's design was simple, durable and effective and consisted of two parts. With the introduction of a catalyst into the fuel gas reaction chamber the water would be broken down into its component atoms and the gases would be fed into the tanks for storage. when sufficient gas had been produced the main generator reaction chamber would be activated by a small current which could be stored in a battery pack or initiated from current supplied by the solar panels. In order to store up enough current he opened the junction panel and manually routed the incoming power such as it was to charge the battery pack. The beauty of using water for power was that it was plentiful and its components consisted of hydrogen which is a highly combustible gas and oxygen without which combustion was impossible. When combined they were the foundation of almost every known ecological system but apart they could be used as an efficient power source. He went over all of the systems thoroughly including the valves before satisfied. the tanks would be cavernous and stored underground. Now ready he introduced the catalyst he had fetched from a storeroom, introduced it into the reaction chamber and opened the valve to the water supply, it turned reluctantly but his strength was more than sufficient. That meant a little over 200 if they split into teams of 3 giving them each 100 or so enlisted personnel. On Earth, at the academy when she first arrived Starfleet Security found the weapons she carried on her person right away. When she arrived on Mars just a few days ago, there was none of it. She didn't know if it was lack of discipline or lack of equipment that was responsible for this oversight, but she was partly to blame because she didn't inquire on what the proper protocol was. It was time to seek out the experts and rectify that. She rounded the corner that would bring her to the main weapons locker. She could now hear a voice carrying through the corridor, singing. The song was unfamiliar to her, the voice singing it was quite good, possibly had training, or just a very talented amateur. As she approached closer she got a better sense of the style of the song. It was definitely Terran in origin she had trouble deciding if it was late twentieth or early twenty-first century. While she was mulling over that she made it to the weapons locker. "Excuse me, where did you learn to sing like that?" she inquired of the fire-headed woman in the weapons locker. (Reply Flagg) "I see. Who am I and what am I doing here? Ensign Merek, Keira if you want." She said the last part warm and friendly. "I came here to inquire about personal weapons. Since Starfleet regulations specify "at the discretion of security with the guidance of the ship or facility Commanding Officer." and no memorandum was posted that I can find, I came to ask the experts." she explained. (Reply Flagg, IYW, room for more) NRPG: I don't know if Flagg is the "ask permission" (call the Admiral) or "beg forgiveness" (Make a call as security and hope it wasn't different from the Admiral's vision) type, there is room for either. (Reply Flagg) "Well, on me I have this type one standard issue hand phaser." She said placing it on the counter. "Two kaleh-aen, you would call them throwing knives." she reached up her jacket sleeves and pulled out one from each sleeve a slender double-sided blade flared at the tip designed for throwing. "...and finally one kaleh-bhath Romulan claw knife similar to a terran karambit" she reached into the small of her back behind the issue belt and pulled out a folded knife that if extended would look like a large claw from a great bird of prey. Keira imagined security cadets sequestered in weapons lockers during training blindfolded and timing each other in competition to see who could disassemble and reassemble the fastest. The red-head seemed impressed she smiled easily “Very good, do you have a maintenance kit?” Keira almost giggled but it came out as a light chuckle. Repair teams have been working around the clock to get the base back up and running. the Senior Damage Control team has taken Engineering Lab four as the operational and primary repair center. Six replicators have been brought online and I setup an older medical replicator in sickbay out of spare parts. Crewman LaChance and Shummer have been working on getting enviormental systems back up and running, Operations sent us a thank you note for restoring air conditioning. The EMH had been used as a party favor by somebody. I also found that LaChance pulled a prank on me by informing me he found a passed out officer near a teraformer processor. I am on hour thirty seven of no sleep. I have asked Master Crewman Richards aka Crewman Ricky to take over repair duties while I get some rest. The worst part is I don't have the seniority to set repair priorities. So for now its Power, Enviormental systems, replicators then shuttle fabrication. We have two Yellowstone Runabouts the Samson and the Delilah that are operational, though Samson is missing its replicator. Fabrication order issued for weapons sleds for either base defense or transfered to the Republic. I have made it mandatory for all repair crews to work double shifts until a senior Engineering Officer belays my orders or we get things working. For the time being I am now off rotation for the next eight hours. Then its back to eighteen hour shifts. The Sovereign, the Galaxy, the Odyssey, all had their birth take place here among the brightest minds the Federation could muster. He had come here once as a child, back when he was about 7. His dad was working on a project with Utopia Planitia, designing a new ship class. She would be a versatile cruiser, primarily intended for short range exploration, but could be outfitted for scientific missions, border patrol, and would make a great frigate. But her primary purposes would be to inspire hope and innovation in a time when many thought that the Federation had lost his way. She would hearken to an earlier age. Her design would be similar to that of the constitution class, but upgraded to appear more similar to the Odyssey class. All of the interior would be more modern, following a more modern layout, and would be similar to the Odyssey in terms of hardware and software. The plan was to take the Odyssey and put her in a smaller package. His dad had been taking a Sabatical from his role as Dean of Engineering at the Academy to head up what was being called project Exeter. It was going to be his father's magnum opus. Then the Federation brass had other ideas, and Utopia Planitia was closed in 2431. His father, Captain Duke Williams returned to the academy disillusioned. The prototype of the Exeter class, the ship many hoped would be commissioned as the ship of the line the NCC-1672-A USS Exeter was about 75% complete. Everything for the exterior was done. She was space worthy, but still needed weapon systems, operations software, a warp core, an a whole list of other details to be capable of being commisioned. But when the shipyards closed, she just sat there, gathering dust. But when the Admiral told him to check the Spacedocks, see what he could find, and the prospect of finishing his dad's project made him very excited. So once he was able to escape from Mars Station he beamed himself up to the ship yard, found the Operations center, checked the registry of which ships were where, located the Exeter project and made his way to where she was located, finally he beamed himself over to the bridge of the NX-1672. He was wearing an EV suit and as he beamed over, he floated over to one of the consoles. He then entered in the startup code he had taken from the operations center and began to power up the ship. Lights turned on, though dimly lit, the oxygen began to flow, the artificial gravity to effect. She was on minimal power, just the bridge. Trip didn't want to start her up completely, in case something went boom while he was on it. He stood in the center of the bridge and looked out. Most the consoles were there and seemed to be in working order. However all the chairs were missing. He could see where the Captain, first officer, and extra bridge chair were supposed to go, but it made sense that the aspects of comfort would be last to be installed. However he had approval from a Starfleet admiral to check the spacedocks and see what he could find. There was plenty of opportunity to convince people that getting some of the other ships up and running would be a good idea. The primary focus was going to be the Republic of course, but even if he was going to have to beg, borrow, or steal, he knew what he needed to do. He had spent his life running out of his father's shadow, trying to be his own man, and with it he didn't always show his father the love and respect he deserved. But if he could bring his father's magnum opus to life, well he could think of no better gift that a son could give his father. It was not a large internal space but it had been placed at the furthest part of the Small Vessel Docks. It had taken him time to find it but as he looked up at the Endeavour which was parked with its sails all folded into transport configuration he did not mind. He smiled sadly at her as he always felt that she appeared constrained when she was not going as full speed with all her sail unfurled. Martian Orbital Control had seamed very happy when he had told them that he would be putting her into storage as he was being assigned to Mars. They had taken her from her assigned berth and placed her here in Zeta 295 for long term storage. He gently ran a hand across the surface of the ship. “Don’t worry I won’t forget you. Its only for a little while until I know where I am going then I will get you out again running fast as you were meant to be.” As he walked around her making sure her sails were not damaged during the move. He also began to look at the other equipment that had been stored in the dock. There was a lot of bits of fighters and shuttle parts scattered around the aft part of the dock like someone had pushed them to one side to fit in the Endeavour. Which Ire realised was probably what they did. He opened a small access hatch on her underbelly and pulled out the small micro port cable and attached it to his data port. He paused for a few moments scanning the system to make sure everything was shut down right for the hibernation. He paused as a strange file popped up. It was a comm file which had been uploaded after her had left her at the Martian Orbital Control and before she arrived at Zeta 295. He accessed the file and familiar voice came out of a small external speaker near him. =^=Hallo Ire. I wanted to give you your graduation present. I have an understanding that you might need them. There is a small hatch at the back this dock, the pass code is your security code. Now remember that I will always be here for you and go and make me and your parents proud=^= He turned as saw that there was small hatch at the back of the dock which was a partition to a second bay and was partially hidden behind a read end of a shuttle craft. He moved closer close and saw that beside the hatch was a small control panel. “Ensign Junior Grade Ire Williams security code India Charlie Romo Charlie One Nine Eight Two.” He had no idea whether it would work but he had given it go and to his utter surprise the door open. He stood there for a moment before he stepped though into the second hold. The light blinked on as the door shut behind him. He spun round but could not see a control panel. Suddenly the whole hanger was illuminated with bright white light which sent the shadows fleeing away. He turnback slowly to see that they room contained six large low profile, sleek design craft about 10 meters long which made it about the same size of a type 10 shuttle craft. They were arranged in a line across the back wall resting on their own transport support cradles. He stared at the for a moment before he realised what he was missing. There was no front window for the crew to look out of and as he stepped closer, he could not see any access hatches. There was a small PADD siting on a box in front of the closest craft and he picked it up. It powered up to his touch and a single sentence appeared. Happy Graduation from Aunty Coleridge Ire frowned at the words but before he could say anything the image changed. Solo Flight Project: UMTSC (Wingman) All thoughts of what crazy scheme his Aunty had planned left his mind as his eyes suddenly widened as he realised what they were. “No way I thought the UMTSC program had been ditched?” The Unmanned Multimode Tactical Support Craft was a pilotless craft designed to be deployed as tactical escorts to a mother starship, patrol craft for star bases or planets. The project had been started with the disappearance of the 51st fleet when they had done their five years jump. It had been decided that the need for mass attack craft would help fill the gap left by the fleet’s disappearance. They were also looking at a deep space reconnaissance and exploration model before the program had been shelved due to difference in tactical doctrine as well as the reappearance of the 51st fleet. The UMTSC or Wingman as they were more commonly referred to had one matter-antimatter propulsion system which feed the two nacelles and two impulse systems. It had a cruising speed of warp speed of 8 and was armed with two compact phaser cannons and two quantum mini-torpedoes launchers. The Wingman was controlled by a micro data port link implanted into the pilot which gave the pilot the ability to control up to six wingman fighters at one time with computer assistance. He remembered that his mother had mentioned that her ship the USS Serenity carries six Wingman that could be controlled by one pilot. His hand unconsciously rubbed his data port on the back of his head. “Thank you, Aunty they will do well for, shipboard deployment as this makes a six craft flight all on its own but I dread to think how you go them here.” He sat down on the box and began to read the large amount of information it contained. Trip was basically still in his uniform, except with the tunic and jacket off, basically in after work down time apparel, where as Rebecca's closed showed that she had set her "phasers" to stunningly beautiful. ~Did I read this wrong. I thought everything was supposed to be casual. I thought tonight was supposed to be casual. But here she is, all made up and I'm dressed like there is nowhere to go.~ "Welcome to my humble abode," he said sheepishly, embarrassed that he wasn't dressed nicer. "I hope you approve?" Trip nodded his head, "You look amazing." Moving closer to him, Rebecca gave him a kiss on the cheek and placed a bottle in his hand. "Thank you." Trip nodded as he then took the bottle to what he had turned into the bar and placed it next to the other bottles. "Can I pour you a drink?" He asked. (Reply Flagg) He poured them both a drink, he made sure that he got himself a glass of the green stuff and headed back to where Rebecca was. "Please have a seat." he said handing her her drink. The living space was designed to be welcoming, there was a large sectional, with a coffee table in the middle. To complete the square, was a comfy single chair for lounging on both of the other sides. Trip sat in one of the single chairs. He thought that it would be better for conversation if the two weren't sitting next to each other. Part of him wanted to just cuddle. It was weird. He found her physically attractive, and he definitely felt at ease with her, but there was just something, missing. Not that he didn't want to have fun with her, but he just wondered if all that was going to happen was, "fun". Regardless that was ok, because right now, in her presence, he felt safe, safer than he had in awhile. But he wondered, if that feeling of safety could last. Besides, as much as he was trying to be in the moment, he was distracted. Maybe that is why he kept feeling something was off. He was here, but he wanted to be on the Exeter prototype. He had spent an hour combing through her systems, seeing what she needed, seeing what was missing, and making a shopping list. He know understood why his father had fallen in love with engineering. But while his father was eager to make things, Trip wanted her up and running because he wanted to make the Exeter prototype go. "How was the first day on mars?" Trip said as he brought himself back to reality. ~Small talk, really, come one Trip you're better than that.~ (Reply Flagg) (reply Flagg) (posted by Will Banowsky) (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Williams-Verin Family Quarters - Sec, Ens JG Rebecca Flagg - 21:05) “Well it did have one good thing.” "Oh and what was that?" Trip said with a smile. Trip knew what the best thing in his day was, and that was sitting foot on the Exeter prototype. The thing that, other than the twins, was supposed to be his father's legacy. “Well……… Meeting you this morning.” "That was pretty special." Trip said. Though he felt guilty. It was great meeting her, but the truth was, his mind was more focused on where he was going to "borrow" a warp core than on the beautiful red head in his living room. “Why don’t I relax a little. I would be happy to sign, maybe a dance…..” As she spoke about dancing Rebeccas hand grabbed her fan flicking it out cracking the fan and then as she looked at Trip she flicked her wrist tossing the fan around and catching it before reversing the action. “Or I been told I give a good massage.” "Or," Trip said with a mischievous smile, "we could just drop the pretense, and you can tell me what you want." Rebecca was a little surprised at his last comment, she had had been off on how she had been reading Trip and needed to adjust her plan on the fly. She could see his mind between the two things her and his core, there was one thing she was sure that she was not dressed to climb around decommissioned ship looking for anything tonight. Taking a larger sip of her drink “Then lets fill our glasses and curl up on the sofa and have a search.” Trip then stood up and walked right up to her. He then whispered into her ear. "I trust you, whatever you want of me, it's yours." Rebecca let her body melt into Trips her hand guiding hand on her back lower to her bottom as she glances up to Trip with a content smile, one that truly comes from the heart. She was not use to opening up her feeling to anyone as most of the time it was just a facade. “I want this, to feel you hold me and the way you make me feel cared for. I want to wake up in these arms.” (reply Trip IYW) Rebecca raised her head and gave Trip a kiss. “I will do a lot for this.” (reply Trip) There was things that could not be said in an embrace and Rebecca felt that she had to be upfront with Trip after all he had said to her, she hoped he was not to naive to realise what she was like but she did not want to hurt him more. Slowly Rebecca took trips hands in hers and then slowly stood back a hath step still, so she was looking into his eyes, her look a mix of passion and worry. She had very rarely done this before anything had happened. She would not admit it but his openness had got to her. “Trip, I don’t want this to end but I feel that you need to know what to expect. I promise you a will never lie to you and you will be very speshail to me. But I not a woman than can just be with one person, I hope that is something you can embrace or at least cope with.” Rebecca looked into his eyes trying to gage his reaction and what questions where going to come, even less than a second could feel like a very long time when something important to her was at stake. On the surface, he appeared fine. But on the inside he was unsure of how to proceed. He got himself into this predicament and he wanted this. But he didn't have any desire to pursue a relationship with Rebecca. The attraction, the desire, it was all physical, all chemical. He wasn't the kind of person to sleep around, but in this moment, he just wanted to give into the temptation. Just feel safe, feel whole for a moment. He could sort of the rest later. But his brain and his heart were at odds. Trip was to wrapped up into his own thoughts to realize that she had moved away from him. “Trip, I don’t want this to end but I feel that you need to know what to expect. I promise you a will never lie to you and you will be very special to me. But I not a woman than can just be with one person, I hope that is something you can embrace or at least cope with.” Trip took a few steps back. He might have found an out, out of this situation. He knew that whatever happened, somewhere down the line someones feelings would be hurt. The kind of free wheeling casualness that Rebecca was implying required a certain vulnerability that trip didn't know if he could give. "So, if I understand you correctly, this is just a casual fling. No strings attached." (reply Flagg) "You just call me up whenever you need me and just melt into my arms like some human teddy bear whenever you feel like it." "You just call me up whenever you need me and just melt into my arms like some human teddy bear whenever you feel like it." Rebecca could not resist a little smile when he mention melting into his eyes. She had normally found it easy to push a lot of lovers away but he was different. She felt that he had wanted it to more than just her body. "Not quite like that, I would be a support to you when you need it. Be there for you." "I mean, I get it, we all have needs, and I'm not saying no. But before I become just a conquest or a hook up, a notch on a belt. I just need to know. Are you only here because of what's on the outside? Rebecca made a slow step forward hoping Trip would not back up. "If you where just a conquests I would have already bedded you, and then let you find out later. It is true I have several notches as you put it. But at the same time I have had special lovers, that I care for as much as my husband or wife." Trip remained silent, he was thinking of what to say, that feeling of safety was still there, but his gut was beginning to make headway on what his mind was saying. Something just didn't sit right. He felt more comfortable with a one time fling then an open relationship. What she was proposing, well, he had seen how bad it could end, and his mind went to the memories of being held by his best friend in his arms, crying, because of a similar situation. "It will be as intense or more than if we where together permeability but with out some of the problems. What do you say we have a look through the registries and give you some time to think." "I don't need time to think. and I'm sorry." (reply Flagg) "I don't have a problem with the one time thing, we all need to feel wanted, to feel whole. I can even learn to be ok with being a booty call. But, the kind of relationship you're proposing, the giving everything without full commitment. Yeah I've been there and it doesn't end well." Trip moved away to the bar, poured himself a shot of bourbon and downed it. He remained silent for a minute.(eply Flagg) "You know, you enter into a relationship, and half way through, you both decide that to figure out if this is the right fit, you need to date others right." Trip said still facing the bar, "So you continue date, continue to be everything and anything to a person, but you're also free. Free to explore, free to be open to what is coming. Right, and you convince yourself it is a good idea, because you are young, because it doesn't matter, because destiny will keep you together." (reply Flagg iyw) "But then it happens. Inevitably one becomes more attached than the other. One falls deeper in love, the other revels in the freedom, in the chase. And you sit there, becoming angry, becoming depressed. You fight every urge not to be jealous. Every notion not to spy. Because you hurt, and it sucks, and everything sucks. But you stick it out, even after declaring your love, because she says she is only doing it to be able to feel about you the same way you feel about her. So you stick around, even though it is killing you, even though everyone around you tells you that your sanity dictates you get out. But then she says things like, 'I feel like I am making the wrong choice by not realizing that you are the right choice.' So you cling to hope. (reply Flagg iyw) "Then she goes to study abroad right. There is an archaeology program on Bajor that has an exchange with the University of San Francisco, and she decides to go. She asks you to wait for her, to still be there when she gets back. Of course the relationship is still open, and you could move on, break free, leave, find someone new. But the whole time you were free to be with others, you stayed true to her. Because you loved her more than she loved you." Trip tried to hide it, but he was beginning to cry. (Reply Flagg iyw) "So she goes, and you know she is going to date, you know she is going to find romance, but you let it happen, because you think you're great, that no one else like you exists. She has to pick you. Because you think she is the one. Because you love her even though it hurts. And in her first few weeks on Bajor, she meets a guy and they start dating. You find from the grapevine that they are always together. But she still calls you almost every day, still wants you around. 'I just need to know.' she says. 'I want to feel about you, the way you feel about me. But I can't do that if you're the only boyfriend I've ever had.' Bullshit! It's all bullshit!" Trip poured himself another shot and downed it. He then moved away from the bar and sat down at one of the chairs around the ding table. He brought the bottle with him. "So you cling to hope, but it's wrecking you inside. You don't feel like yourself. Her mom calls you to give you hope, saying that she isn't gonna fall for someone she just met, from a different world. You remain polite, even though you know it's bullshit, because you are the children of two worlds, and your dad fell for your mom almost at first sight. But you soldier on, and then the bullet hits. She thinks she's pregnant. You know it's not yours, you haven't seen in her in four months. She still wants you around, and you ask yourself, can you raise someone else's child. But you don't think she is ever going to pick you so you start to gain the courage to leave, the courage to walk away. You find out she is pregnant, and even though you know you could stay, even though you want to, she doesn't give you the sign you are looking for. She isn't willing to commit to you, but she needs you for the emotional support, she wants you for the physical support. She wants you to keep waiting for her. But you are done. Being in an open relationship damn near killed you, and you can't take it anymore. So you tell her there is no hope and you walk away." Trip then took a swig straight from the bottle. (reply Flagg, iyw) "So yeah, I can do a one time fling, I can do an occasional hook up. But I'm not getting emotionally attached, I'm not opening up myself to someone in that way who might be opening up themselves to someone else emotionally as well at the same time. I've been there it absolutely wrecked me, almost left me a cynical mess. And I just can't do that. I'm sorry." Trip then got up and walked back over to the couch. The man let Jaton go and he slumped to the floor, tears welling in his eyes and mixing with the blood pouring from his nose. “Computer apply force fields to this area.” he said the computer beeped in response, and the field went into place. "Get Dr Bracken.” Pressing his combadge “Poldan to Ktell” (Reply Bracken, Ktell) “Sir I’m sorry for the time, however, I need you in sickbay.” Kasian said when the admiral answered. "Poldan. You've been joined? Oh I'm so proud of you." Despite the recent exchange and the fact he could no longer touch the man purporting to be his son, Jaton felt the need to try and form a link with him. (reply Kasian, Bracken, Ktell) (posted by Spencer) (Unknown - Unknown - Jaton Alyl - Dreamtime) "Don't mess with the syndicate," the sinister voice hissed. A burning iron was pressed on Jaton's temple. In front of him he could see his parents and a starfleet officer he didn't recognise. He handed them a folded Federation flag and faded from his vision. His mother collapsed to the floor and her wails cut right through him. The pain in his head intensified and got worse. He felt the heat burrowing through his temple and into his skull. He could feel his brain matter beginning to liquefy and then start to boil. He reached out his hand towards his mother. "ATSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Sickbay, Intensive Care – Jaton Alyl/MO Ens jg Kasian Poldan– 00:47) Jaton woke in a cold sweat. He could feel his chest heaving, breathing rapidly. "Atsa! Atsa!" Kasian looked up from the thermal he was trying desperately to reconfigure. He was having no luck and his office was right across the hall for the ICU. ~Atsa? He speaks trill.~ Kasian tried to pull up the file on their guest but his termal was still not responding quick enough. Kasian saw a nurse rush into the unit. Standing he walked out of his office. “Is everything okay?” he asked “His heart rate elevated it was probably just a nightmare, but figured I should check” The nurse said as Kasian walked towards her. “I got it I need a break.” Kasian said his comment was returned with a blank look. Kasian walked in the room stopped in the doorway his interest mostly peaked over hearing his native language, and now something else hit him. He felt sick, he knew his heart rate was raising now he could feel it beating in his chest. Poldan twitched in his abdomen. Kasian had forgotten why he had come here at this point whose ever sick joke this was it wasn’t funny, and they would pay. Kasian was always a pretty calm person the voice of reason till he was crossed once that happened his temper could get out of control quickly. Kasian walked across the room quickly grabbing the man by the shirt pulling him off the bed holding onto the shirt. “Who the HELL are you!” Kasian screamed easly alerting anyone in sickbay. "Lieu-lieu-Lieutenant Jaton Alyl, of the Paladin." His heart was beating at half impulse speed at this point. He could barely speak he was so rattled. "What's wrong?" “LIER JATON ALYL IS DEAD.” Kasian could feel his rage his blood was boiling Jaton looked at the man, shocked. "Dead?" He then thought about it for a minute. And what he had seen in his dream. "That phaser blast. It was set on kill. I died. But if that's the case, what am I doing here? Is this the afterlife? The Rite of Emergence?" Kasian listened to the man ramble this seemed to annoy him even more. He pushed the imposter back so his back was against the wall Kasian held onto the man his face white drained of color. “Who are you to talk about the rite of Emergence, to show up here wearing my father skin. Did you think you would get away with it is this some secret mission to deal a blow to the federation.” "What are you talking about? What's happened to the Federation? Why would I lie about who I am? I'm just as confused as you are." Jaton claimed “You see it’s simple your either a shapeshifter planning to kill federation officers, or a deadbeat dad who has been gone for 25 years. So what one is it.” Kasian words where hard his emotions going crazy there no way his mother would have lied to him his father was dead this he knew. “Before you answer just know I’m going to kill you either way so you might as well tell me the truth. There is only one way this ends for you.” his words came out full of hate and bitterness. Jaton's train of thought stopped in its tracks as the weight of the man's words hit him. "Dad? I have a son?" “No Jaton has a son” Kasian left the fact that he was a twin out he didn’t need to give this thing anymore information the he already had. Jaton felt himself choking up. "Oh my boy. I am so sorry. I don't know what happened to me, but I just want you to know I would never have left you if I had the choice. But you have to believe me when I say I don't know what happened. The last thing I remember before waking up here was the hostage situation on Dureth Station." He slowly raised a hand towards the man's face. He was clearly distraught, and if what he was saying was true, he could use this comfort as much as Jaton did. Kasian felt the man hand in his face this didn’t help matters any at all. Kasian right hand made a Fist hitting Jaton right on the noise he felt the bone crack under the pressure. He wasn’t sure if it was his medical training or a past life on how he knew how much pressure to put to break the noose and. It cause any other damage. For a split second Jaton felt a warm energy radiating between them. Then he felt the cartilage in his nose give way and heard the sickening crunch from inside his own skull. Kasian let the man go and fall to the floor. “Computer apply force fields to this area.” Kasian said the computer beeped in response, and the field went into place. Kasian looked at his throbbing hand seeing a few drops of blood hit the floor. Looking how at the nurse “get Dr Bracken” he said as he pulled and cooking pack off the shelf for his hand. Pressing his combadge “Poldan to Ktell” (Reply Bracken, Ktell) “Sir I’m sorry for the time, however, I need you in sickbay.” Kasian said when the admiral answered. "Poldan. You've been joined? She closed the channel, and then looked at the time on the display next to her bed, and sighed once more, pulling off her nightwear, and pulling on the fresh underwear and surgical scrubs that she left by her bed. It had been her mother’s first lesson to her in medical school. She left the room, at a brisk pace, fitting her commbadge and rank pip. Surprised at the amount of people who were around at this time. (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Sickbay, Intensive Care – MO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken – 0120) She strode into the intensive care unit, and saw the duty staff nurse at the desk. The nurse smiled and after grabbing a PADD off her desk, fell into step next to Ailynn. medic.” “Bracken. You called? Chief? Ailynn was pulling her hair back into a pony tail, but realised she hadn’t brought a band, or clip with her. “ Carter Sir. Duty Staff Nurse. Thank you for coming Doctor. Ensign Alyl had an episode about an hour ago, perhaps a nightmare, Dr Poldan was the duty attending.” She’d seen Dr Bracken search irritably one handed for something to hold her hair back, and smiling to herself, pulled a spare band off her left wrist and gave it her. “Bless you. Thanks. I wish we’d have had time and the scans yesterday to sort this out. That Alyl’s results?” She motioned to the PADD. Carter nodded, and handed it over, having to skip slightly, as Bracken’s legs took her at a far faster pace than she was used to. Ailynn opened the PADD, and scanned the information, Carter watched as her eyes flew over the screen, taking in more information in those few seconds that she would have thought possible. “Oh good grief can this get any more…” She handed the PADD back. “Ktell been called?” Carter answered the affirmative, “He has Sir. They’re in the bay at the end.” “No no, stay with me. I might need more.” As they entered the bay, Ailynn saw the Alyl restrained behind a field with blood dripping from his nose, and Poldan, obviously furious. “Carter, inform Security, have them make ready to attend, but we don’t need them yet.” She reached Kasion. “Dr Poldan, stand back. You’re angry I get it, but this is not the way. Stand…down.” Her voice was firm, her tone full of steel, her professional manner wrapped around her like a blanket. (Reply Poldan) “Use your brain instead of your fists.” She snapped at him. “Does he look 53? WELL? Because if not, something else must be happening, yes?” (Reply Poldan) Her tone irritable, she carried on. “While you’re calming down I’m going to check my patient.” She turned, and having released the restraining field, helped Alyl to the biobed where she gently felt the bone of the bridge of his nose.” (Reply Alyl) “Broken nose, associated cartilagious damage. Carter give him a local and standard anti-inflammatory. Take him through to bay two, scan and prep. I’ll fix his nose while I’m up. Grab me a surgical tray if you could.” “Aye Sir”. Turning back to Kasion “Okay Kaz. We need to talk. There’s a room back here. Coffee I think.” (Reply Poldan, Alyl, Ktell as previously messaged) (Posted by Mark) (Mars Facility – Admiral’s Office – CPO Charles Tamblyn - 0930)(Mars Facility – Admiral’s Office – CPO Charles Tamblyn - 0930) Charles waited patiently for his turn to see the Admiral. So far, he had witnessed a string of “hard-charging wiper-snappers” fresh out of the academy look excited as they entered the office, and most of them looking crushed as they walked out with some of them complaining about their assignment after the door to the inner office closed behind them. As he sat on the couch patiently awaiting his turn to be seen, Charles couldn’t help but go over the events of his arrival to the Mars Facility. Fortunately for him, many of the fugitives he had tracked down over the years tried to get to Mars to find transport on assorted types of cargo ships. As a result, Charles was well known to and welcomed by, the members of the local law enforcement precinct. As a result, Tamblyn’s personal Danube-class runabout, Errant, was expediently granted a place to land. After taking ownership of the Errant, the only major modification Charles had made was converting the payload modules stasis pods for holding captured fugitives. Otherwise, the Errant was a standard 41-year-old Danube-class runabout. Tamblyn snapped back to the present when he heard a voice call out, “Chief Tamblyn, the Admiral will see you now.” The yeoman said to him. With a nod of his head in acknowledgment as he got up and headed to the door. As he passed the yeoman’s desk, Tamblyn heard the yeoman whisper under his breath, “Why the admiral would want some slacker reservist is beyond me.” Charles stopped as the door opened, turned to face the yeoman and stated, “Perhaps I bring more to the table than you are aware.” As he finished his comment, the door opened and closed behind Tamblyn as he stepped through. Once the door closed behind him, Tamblyn proceeded smartly to the desk and stood at the position of attention, “Admiral Ktell; Chief Petty Officer Charles Tamblyn reporting as ordered, sir.” (Reply Ktell) (posted by Charles)
