As with many chairs away from Caitian space and that of a handful of other species, the furniture was not particularly suited to a tail. This was something M'Rurrh had learnt to cope with long ago, whilst taking every opportunity to 'fix' the fittings wherever she went. ~Job #1 when we get to Mars... Check the chairs.~ “Welcome aboard.”, said the Admiral, with almost feline indifference as he glanced through a computer display. ~I've probably arrived at a bad time. That would explain the very unusual rendezvous point.~ “You’ll be working with Ensign Kiera Merek, our Acting Assistant Chief Engineering Officer. We’ll be arriving at Trill today so you have the option to stay onboard or visit Trill or both. Please discuss it with your Chief.”, he said and then looked directly at her. "Acting Assistant Chief..." M'Rurrh hastily covered up her surprise at the lack of assigned senior positions aboard the Mystique. "Sir, yes sir." ~Please, not another plague ship!~ “Unless you have any questions for me, Ensign, you are dismissed – you can find your quarters and then head for Engineering at the start of the shift.” "Thank you, Sir." M'Rurrh stood, recovered and shouldered her bag, and departed the Admiral's room. (USS Mystique, Main Engineering - OPS, Ensign M'Rurrh - 0635) Having stowed her kit, and given the fur a quick grooming, M'Rurrh had gone in search of Main Engineering and Ensign Merek. Her excitement had grown with proximity to the thrum of the ship's warp drive and M'Rurrh fairly sprang into the wider space that was the ship's engineering space - the locus for its beating heart. "Ensign Merek? I'm M'Rurrh, new officer reporting in." (Reply Merek) (Posted by MCD) (USS Mystique – Main Engineering – aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 0637) Keira was about midway into her morning checks. It was something that she had to work at in the beginning, now it had become routine. Now that they were close to their destination, anyway. Having completed her spot inspections, she had rounded the corner following the railing and stopped at the main display to have a “look at the numbers”. She picked up PADD that the Gamma shift lead had left for her. That meant that the were finishing up some task that would not allow her to get a direct report. She tucked her blonde hair behind her pointed ear while she concentrated on the report. "Ensign Merek? I'm M'Rurrh, new officer reporting in." Keira looked up from her report, the new arrival almost startled her. ~Not many can sneak up on me.~ She saw a Caitain roughly six inches shorter than her, but no less imposing. Her tortoise colored marking she believed the colloquialism was, probably made an excellent camouflage. She possessed the grace of a predator, which was all too common to most of her species. ~Oooh. Kitty! Must not pet…~ “Yes, I’m Ensign Merek,” she looked at her single rank pip, “Fresh out of the academy? Which class?” (Reply M’Rurrh) “Good ol’ ’44.” She said “Largest class from the Academy in some time. I guess things are looking up?” (Reply M’Rurrh) “Quite right. Shifts, what you’ll be doing. We have a standard Alpha-Beta-Gamma 24 hour shift schedule, Alpha starting at 0800.” She said and put the PADD on the counter top. “We’re at the tail end of Gamma now, Alpha starts in a few hours. Show up for shift change 10-15 minutes early to allow passing of any pertinent information.” She held up the PADD, “This is from my Gamma shift leader, it also lets me know that the task he’s performing won’t allow for him to make shift change. I’ll call him if I have any questions, I usually don’t. His reports are pretty thorough.” (Reply M’Rurrh) “Good question. I was going to leave that up to you. Alpha is full up, but Beta and Gamma could be moved around to accommodate a new Officer. With the eyes I was thinking Gamma, as Gamma typically runs with 20% lower lighting, but it’s up to you.” She said. (Reply M’Rurrh) “Great. I’ll put in the adjustments to the watch bill here shortly. We are shortly due in Trill space. You are more than welcome to stay and observe as long as you like to see how we do things.” She offered. (Reply M’Rurrh) “Good. I work Alpha but I’ll be around all the shifts I check in with all of them, so I’ll see you tomorrow definitely. If you want to go down to the planet, it’s authorized as long as conditions and the Admiral allow.” (Reply M’Rurrh) “ I’m due on the bridge here shortly. Give me a call if you have any questions.” (Reply M’Rurrh, or any others in Engineering) (Posted by Todd) (USS Mystique, Main Engineering - OPS, Ensign M'Rurrh - 0639) M'Rurrh straightened her tunic whilst the acting Assistant Chief Engineer cast an appraising eye. "Yes, I'm Ensign Merek. Fresh out of the academy? Which class?” The question caught M'Rurrh off-guard, expecting a less direct and personal conversation. "I... I graduated with the class of '44," she stammered. “Goodol’ ’44.” The ACEO smiled, adding “Largest class from the Academy in some time. I guess things are looking up?” "Yes, it was certainly a larger class. Something in the ether seems to have been calling 'the Best and the Brightest' back to service in Starfleet at last." M'Rurrh's tail twitched as she remembered her Academy classmates, their scent of their shared endeavour. "Quite right. Shifts, what you’ll be doing. We have a standard Alpha-Beta-Gamma 24 hour shift schedule, Alpha starting at 0800. We’re at the tail end of Gamma now, Alpha starts in a few hours. His reports are pretty thorough.” "I understand. And which shift am I assigned to until our return to Mars? My brain's still in limbo from the shuttle ride out here, but I'm ready to get stuck in." "Good question. I was going to leave that up to you. Alpha is full up, but Beta and Gamma could be moved around to accommodate a new Officer. With the eyes I was thinking Gamma, as Gamma typically runs with 20% lower lighting, but it’s up to you.” Unsure if she'd just been complimented or slighted, M'Rurrh opted to believe the former. "Gamma it is, then. That'll give me a chance for some bunk time!" "Great. I’ll put in the adjustments to the watch bill here shortly. We are shortly due in Trill space. You are more than welcome to stay and observe as long as you like to see how we do things.” She offered. "Thanks, but for now I've got a whole new ship to acclimatise to. Won't take long, but I like to have a bit of a scout around. Just born curious, I guess. I'll come back to Engineering later, though." "Good. I work Alpha but I’ll be around all the shifts I check in with all of them, so I’ll see you tomorrow definitely. If you want to go down to the planet, it’s authorized as long as conditions and the Admiral allow.” "Thanks but there's enough up here to keep me busy and I think someone said we'd be meeting up with an Andorian ship. I wouldn't mind catching a look at that if we get close. Not seen one of those since... Well, that's a longer story and I'm rambling on now and you're trying to get ready for your shift." "I’m due on the bridge here shortly. Give me a call if you have any questions.” "Thank you, sir. I will." M'Rurrh backed away before exiting the way she'd come, ready to explore and unravel some of the mystique of the Mystique. (Reply any, none) (Posted by MCD) (USS Mystique - Sickbay – aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken - 0716) “Hello?” A voice called out, pulling her away from the report that she’d been reading. She stood up from her desk, and looked out onto the main sickbay. “Sorry, quiet in here at the moment. Can I help?” “Ah…hello…yes. I’ve not been feeling all that well lately and thought I’d better get checked out.” He started. Nodding gently, she smiled, “Of course. Please.” She motioned to a nearby biobed, and nodded at a passing nurse, who passed her a tricorder. “Tell me about what you’ve been feeling, how long for?” “I can’t shake this cough…its gotten bad over the last half a day or so. My energy is down, achy, etc.” Scott replied. “lie down, please. Let’s see if we can’t figure you out. Nurse, standard sats, get me a set of bloods. Passing the tricorder over the patient, Ailynn frowned slightly as the results appeared on the screen. “Core temperature depressed, white cell count elevated. Nurse, get him a blanket, we need to warm him up, increase his fluids too. Then I’d like a biosweep, skip the toxscreen, his kidney function is excellent.” “Yes Doctor.” The nurse passed on the orders to the other nurses nearby, and Ailynn was gratified to see that they instantly started carrying them out; a blanket appeared almost instantly, and draped carefully over the patient. Scott seemed drowsy as his body temperature began to slowly warm up. (USS Mystique - Transporter Room 2 - Ensign Stennin - 08:00) Stennin blinked his eyes for a moment as the light from the transporter dissipated out. He looked at the room around him, a rather standard Starfleet transporter room. He nodded as the transporter chief welcomed him, and tugged his backpack tight. Stennin had received clear instructions for his new job. He went straight for the bridge, lingering would be illogical after all. As he walked through the corridors to the turbolift, he was greeted by some other crew of the ship. He noticed a Bajoran and a Terran conversing. He nodded at them. He found it agreeable that Starfleet and indeed the whole Federation was returning to its roots of international cooperation. After all, it was the mutual interest in exploration, trade, and also defence that had driven the creation of it in the first place. (USS Mystique - Bridge, Ready Room - Ensign Stennin - 08:08) His mind wandered, until the turbolift stopped at the bridge and opened. He was greeted by a human engineer who entered as he left. He noticed the small crew that was present on the bridge. Undoubtedly doing their work, as he needed to as well. He walked slowly to the ready room, which he was told was where the admiral was located. He stopped and tapped the button. He awaited a reply. (Reply Remae) Stennin watched as the doors swished open. He walked in and stood still. He looked at the Bajoran man with interest. A smile appeared to be present on his face. Stennin resisted the urge to raise his brows, but made a mental note. (Reply Remae) " That is correct, admiral. My name is Ensign Stennin. I was sent here to assist the scientific department." (Reply Remae) Stennin reached around for his backpack, opened a side pocket, and pulled out a PADD. He reached over to Remae. " All the details are present in my personnel files, as well as my academy transcript. Admiral, may I inquire, what is my purpose here at this moment?" (Reply Remae) " That is agreeable, Admiral. I will return to you in the morning to meet my new senior officers." (Reply Remae) Stennin nodded softly, and closed the backpack. With a firm hand, a rather strange conduct for certain, he bade the Admiral goodbye. He turned for the door, which swished open again, and left the ready room. He turned back for the turbolift, to get to his newly assigned quarters. (Reply Remae) (Posted by Yoerik van Heugten) (USS Mystique - Sickbay - Ensign Scott Matrix - 0935) “Urodelan flu?!” Replied Matrix. “How in the hell did I catch it and can you get rid of it?” He continued. (Reply any in sickbay) “Yes, I’ll lie down again, but I’ve been in here for almost two hours.” Said Scott. (Reply any in sickbay) Scott stayed put while the medical team did their thing. He wasn’t too worried about it, but he’d never heard of Urodelan flu before. ~I guess I’m bound to catch something once in a while.~ he thought. “Other than this annoying cough and a bit of dizziness I’m feeling okay.” Replied Scott. (Reply any in sickbay) (Posted by Steve) (USS Mystique - Sickbay – aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken - 0936) “Ensign Matrix. Good to see you come round slightly. You’ll be pleased to know we know what’s wring with you. Urodelan Flu…rather nasty strain.” “Urodelan flu?!” Replied Matrix. “How in the hell did I catch it and can you get rid of it?” He continued. “Second question first, yes I can…are you going to lie down like a good patient or am I going to have to be grumpy with you?” Ailynn leant on the arm of the biobed, reading the results screen. “Yes, I’ll lie down again, but I’ve been in here for almost two hours.” Said Scott. Smiling gently, she shrugged, “and you’re going to be here a few more I’m afraid. You need a course of anti-virals, standard analgesic, and a shot of vitamins tailored to your blood chemistry, amongst other things. How are you currently feeling? Aches, pains?” “Other than this annoying cough and a bit of dizziness I’m feeling okay.” Replied Scott. Ailynn nodded, understanding, and taking a hypospray gave him another shot of an anti-nausea drug. “You know…” She turned to him, genuinely puzzled, “Your first question was actually the only one I can’t answer. I’ve looked at all the reportable disease ledgers in the nearby systems, and none of them have this strain…anywhere. Not been close up with a sick Urodelan I assume?” (Reply Matrix) Ailynn sighed, “Pity…I was kind of hoping you were going to say yes to that one to be honest. Okay, change of tack, assuming that nowhere you’ve been is classified, I’m going to need a complete history from you, currently you are still contagious, and are at the moment contained in a bioscreen. That will have to last…” She screwed her eyes up, doing the calculations for the antiviral capability in her head. “…until just after lunch. You’ll still feel about 6 out of 10, but the contagion will have passed.” (Reply Matrix) (Posted by Mark) (Trill, Golden Sun Cafe – Pilot Ensign JG Ire Williams - 1340) "I mean what if they are realizing what they are missing out on by not being a part of the whole. I mean it could be all coincidental that it happened to be while Starfleet was ramping up. The Federation has a lot more to offer than protection. I think that is the only category in which the Andorians have us beat." “They do but maybe some people here are seeing our ramping as too little too late and have liked being independent for the last twenty years that the idea of returning back to the Federation could feel like they are being stifled or restricted.” (reply Any) "It is odd though, I mean the urgency of it all. Yes they gave us time to gear up and get ready to go, rather than just take a delegation on their ship, I mean the ceremony is good and all. But they didn't phone ahead. I remember their arrival being a bit of a shock to us all. It's kind of odd. Why not just call and say hey listen, can we talk. I don't know. Maybe something forced their hand, like you were saying. I mean if there is a crisis here, it doesn't look like the people know about it. Plus, I was on the bridge when the Andorians called. I got the sense they were about as surprised we are here as we were surprised they are here. Something just doesn't feel right." “The Trill Ambassador did kind of appear out of now where and ask us to come back with him. Maybe the reason why everyone was so surprised was that most people did not know where the Ambassador was going or who they were going to return with.” (reply Any) (reply Cafe people) (posted by Robbie) (Trill, Golden Sun Cafe – CONN Ens JG Trip Williams- 1341) Trip took in Ire and Boone's comments. He ran his hands through his hair, which was slightly damp due to the humidity in the air. He was thankful for the lighter clothes he was wearing, though the occasional breeze felt wonderful on his skin. "I don't think that our arrival here is necessarily a surprise. I mean obviously that the ambassador came for us shows that the government at least wanted us here." Trip took a sip from his water, hydration was key. "As for what we should do about anything, I think we just play it smart. If we're not acting in an official capacity, keep our heads on swivel and lay low. Act smart, stay out of trouble, and stick together. Buddy method." (reply any) "I don't expect things to get violent, but we don't know. Like those kids are our age, well at least look like mine, I get that some of you are a bit older than me, with a bit of good life experience. But like, I feel very passionately about Trill coming back, and the Federation being and looking strong. I'm sure those guys feel the same about Trill's independence. And judging by the chants, I don't know if they'll listen to reason." (reply any) "So yeah, lets just keep a low profile and stick together. We don't want to be caught alone if the crowd becomes a mob. Am I right?" (reply any) (reply cafe) (posted by Will) (Trill, Golden Sun Cafe – aASEC, Ens(jg) Carson Peters - 1343) Carson had been taking a drink whilst listening to the others talk "I don't expect things to get violent, but we don't know. But like, I feel very passionately about Trill coming back, and the Federation being and looking strong. I'm sure those guys feel the same about Trill's independence. And judging by the chants, I don't know if they'll listen to reason." "Anyone insighting violence would be an idiot." He put his drink down and pointed over above the cafe building, to a hovering drone, "The reporter's drone's are following key member of Starfleet staff around. It'd all get caught on camera." He said whilst laughing a little. "So yeah, lets just keep a low profile and stick together. We don't want to be caught alone if the crowd becomes a mob. Am I right?" Carson nodded, "Sure. Anyone got anywhere they want to go?" (Reply any at cafe) (posted by Jono Bradley) (Trill - The Science Ministry Building - Kazran Batol- 1417) “Scans from the ship were still being compiled when I left. As for your other question..." he settled back comfortably, "Federation member worlds have not stood still since the contraction of StarFleet and there are a number of planets that have made advances." Raising an eyebrow, Kazran matched the Vulcan’s stance and sat back in his chair, “For Example?” "Take Vulcan for instance, we are on the verge of a breakthrough in power generation that will result in a quantum leap forward in interstellar economic conditions and it is a technology that will be made available to all Federation member worlds." Thinking to himself, Kazran nodded slightly, “That does sound interesting however i am concerned over what you expect ourselves to share with you.” "The Trill Ambassador brought a number of refinements over current technology available to StarFleet of which the Federation is thankful and your people have already been helpful. I wish to make this clear. Over the long run however I believe our cultures will logically be of greater benefit to one another." Scoffing, Kazran looked at this man and shook his head, “Benefit? Whilst i can honestly say i am not an isolationist like some of our people, i wonder what you mean by benefit?” (Reply Sekal) “My feelings, personally, will never impact my work or my belief in our president. However, was it a benefit to my family when Starfleet sent my brother on a mission that lead to his death?” (Reply Sekal) (Reply Sekal, Any) (Posted by Jackie) (Trill - The Science Ministry Building - Office- aACSO(R)- Ensign (jg) Sekal- 1418) “Benefit? Whilst i can honestly say i am not an isolationist like some of our people, i wonder what you mean by benefit?” It was obvious the Trill had little interest or was it trust in the concept of the free flow of scientific knowledge. This was an illogical stance by a scientist in Sekal's estimation. The benefits were obvious. "I would think it would be self evident Minister. The history of scientific advancement on every planet is rife with examples of achievements due to the cooperation of many scientists. The reason being that there is always someone who can add a new perspective or fill in portions of the research which led to a breakthrough. The same thing has happened through the cooperation between member worlds and I am using that precedent to continue the research I referred to earlier. With the help of the science team available to me and their varied insights the odds of finishing it are astronomically increased." The Minister's next words were enlightening. “My feelings, personally, will never impact my work or my belief in our president. However, was it a benefit to my family when Starfleet sent my brother on a mission that lead to his death?” Sekal now knew the reason behind the Minister's illogical stance, it was of course emotional which was to be expected. Even men of science were prone to such a weakness. Sekal could have dodged the question or downplayed it but didn't do so, instead he met it head-on. "My condolences Minister..." he brought his hands together before him and steepled his fingers in contemplation, "... it is a logical question. Many lives have been lost with Starfleet beginning from its inception even on peaceful and exploratory missions due to the dangers of that which we do not know or understand and it was always with the knowledge that space travel itself and the actions of unknown lifeforms could have unforeseen consequences." He watched the Trill closely knowing that this was not the issue. "The civil war is another matter and millions died on Andoria alone. Members of StarFleet from almost every planet including Vulcan lost their lives and families all through the Federation were adversely affected and many worlds beginning with Andoria cut ties to that body. But the Federation still remains greatly intact, those worlds that remain understanding that being a part of a greater whole advances not only themselves but all those others who are a part of that whole. This is the benefit of a free flow of information, the knowledge that like cells in a body every person is contributing in their own way to the health of that body. Scientific knowledge itself is another facet of that." (Reply: Kazran) "As an example myself and Ensigns Seienna Williams-Verin, Adala Michaels and Jaton Alyl, a native of your own planet who was recently revived are working together to complete the research begun on Vulcan" (Reply: Kazran) (Posted by Charles G) (Trill - The Science Ministry Building - Office- Kazran Batos - 1422) "The civil war is another matter and millions died on Andoria alone. The scientific community has always been one of the more cooperative communities.” "As an example myself and Ensigns Sienna Williams-Verin, Adala Michaels and Jaton Alyl, a native of your own planet who was recently revived are working together to complete the research begun on Vulcan" Hearing the name, Kazran took a deep, steadying breath and nodded, “That is good. What research is that?” (Reply Sekal) “At present, most of our scientific community has been focused on solving a specific problem particular to our homeworld. We are in need of help but i am concerned as to what that will cost us.” (Reply Sekal) (reply Sekal, Any) (Posted by Jackie) (Kir Kumari - Conference Room one – aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 1423) Billy then sat as instructed. He then leaned over and whispered to Merek, "Penny for your thoughts?" Keira’s eyes narrowed in confusion for a moment. ~Penny? What is a penny? Oh, right!~ She thought, remembering stories of Earth of old and where the term came from. “Hmm?” she said. (Reply Billy) She took the information that he had given her and internalized it, not responding for now. There was a short exchange of pleasantries between the Admiral and the Andorian staff. There seemed to be something there in the exchange. His gaze had lingered for a moment on the older Andorian male and who was introduced as the Ambassador, at that Remae looked over to Billy. It would take some time for Keira to catch on to their non-verbal cues. (Reply Billy) The Admiral then returned to his diplomatic conversation, then he dropped a very forward political bomb. "How would Andoria view such an arrangement?", were his exact words. She spoke back to him just as directly. "I'll be blunt here Admiral and the Ambassador will back what I tell you. First let me say Sei Lara is here unofficially as an observer and has no authority during this meeting." ~Is this an Andorian thing? Whose antennae are bigger?~ Keira thought, none the less the Ambassador nodded agreeing with her statement, she then turned back to the Admiral. "We were invited here and came at their summons but the political situation has been chaotic at best to put it mildly. As to your question...," she leaned forward to emphasize her point, "... our aims are peaceful and the Trill are free to pursue their own goals. We brought no ultimatums or forcible intent and I'm sure the Ambassador could easily factor a similar stance into his own negotiations with the Trill. That the Trill have some form of relationship with the Federation does not make them enemies of Andoria." There was more back and forth between the Starfleet Admiral and the Andorian Captain. From what Keira could tell, neither were holding much back at all. Which was quite different than what her father had told her of Romulan “negotiations”, if you could call it that. Something was always held back in reserve, to borrow Earth sayings, you never showed your whole hand. Information about you could be used against you. The Admiral’s communicator went off, it was Ravok with a report of the absence of knowledge of the whereabouts of our Andorian officer. One of the members present instantly became concerned with this news and asked to be excused ~Politics and diplomacy are really weird.~ She thought but remained silent. (Reply Remae, Billy, any Andorians present) (Posted by Todd) (Trill - The Science Ministry Building - Office- aACSO(R)- Ensign (jg) Sekal - 1424) Sekal had been watching the science minister closely and noted a reflexive and involuntary reaction to something he had said. What had caused it or the connotation he was unaware. “That is good. What research is that?” At this moment giving away too much would be unwise as well as illogical. A Federation member outside of Starfleet could not be unequivocally trusted, even within StarFleet itself it would be inadvisable to speak of it openly outside of those he could personally account for so generalities would have to do for now. "An improvement by nearly a third in efficiency over current matter/anti-matter power generation systems that will both decrease the amount of anti-deuterium fuel used along with a far greater energy output. Fully realized it could run a colony with a relatively small power source." Was his reply. This seemed to 'break the ice' with the Trill who offered an ever-so-small glimpse into an issue his home planet was dealing with. While he gave no specifics what he said was enough to open the door. “At present, most of our scientific community has been focused on solving a specific problem particular to our homeworld. We are in need of help but i am concerned as to what that will cost us.” An eyebrow rose. "Indeed." His interest was piqued. "My speciality is research and we have a variety of disciplines in the science department represented aboard the Mystique. I would offer my help while we are here without expecting compensation. It would cost you nothing." (Reply: Kazran) (Posted by Charles G) (Kir Kumari - Conference Room - CO - Admiral Remae Ktell - 1450) Kar Sheia was explaining that they were here by invitation as well, Trill had invited them and here they were, pursing similar goals, trying to make alliances and with peaceful intentions. Reasonable, to the point, Remae could see himself even been friendly with the fellow Captain. They had been hurt by the Federation, the same as the Federation had been hurt by them. "You heard? It appears Trill is an issue for both of us at this time.", said the Kar, once again, Remae nodded in agreement, he ran his hands over his chin. Commander Tesha headed out the door but not before bowing before the Admiral and excusing herself. For himself, the Admiral was a little confused about what had happened. Ensign's Taya's condition now took precedence over his interesting conversation with the Andorian CO. The Bajoran wanted to go and check but he took a moment to stop himself and looked at the Kar directly, "Thank-you for taking care of her, Ensign Taya. I'd like to know more about what happened.", he said and then reopened his comm-link to the Mystique, "Admiral to Mystique, Ensign Ravok, Ensign Taya is here on the Kumari - stand by.", he said and then returned to his meeting. Each of the remining people in the room looked at each other. ~ Where to from here? ~ "The President seems very interested in Trill re-joining the Federation but. I need to look into the other factions that we've been speaking about, the other side. do you know anything about that, Kar? You see, if they go ahead and rejoin, if the planet isn't ready. would be unreasonable to assume that a civil-war would breakout?", he asked carefully. Perhaps the Kar knew more about the other side of this coin that he did, one thing was for sure, if Trill rushed back into an alliance with the Federation and the entire planet wasn't ready, it wasn't going to be pretty, for any side caught up in the mess. (Reply from Sheia, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Kir Kumari - Conference Room - Kera Sheia - 1455) She waited while the Admiral contacted his ship to report that Taya had been located and took that time to consider what was happening. Trill was pacifist in outlook as a government which always led to the idea that its people would be as well, this had been proven false. As an individual the peaceful, non-violent Trill were not so. They were like any other being in fact, prone to emotional upset to the point of violence if aroused. Had Taya done anything to bring it upon herself? Probably not since from reports received from the surface demonstrations had begun against both Andoria and Remae's people. Chances were she had been targeted because she was an off worlder. Since Sheia had a small number on the planet the circumstances concerned her, the Admiral however had many times that. Since they would be investigating the incident she would get the information from them. Technically since Taya was on her ship she had every right to conduct her own investigation but little precedence and forcing herself into it would be a guaranteed way of ratcheting up tension. For now she would take extra precautions as soon as the meeting was over if Joral had not already done so. Kera Sheia realized then that the room had gone quiet and jerked herself back into the present in time to catch Remae's eyes again before he started speaking. "The President seems very interested in Trill re-joining the Federation but I need to look into the other factions that we've been speaking about, the other side. do you know anything about that, Kar? You see, if they go ahead and rejoin, if the planet isn't ready. would be unreasonable to assume that a civil-war would breakout?" He had spoken slowly, his words chosen with care. She pursed her lips and sat back as she considered the question which was a reasonable one. Was that part of the reason Andoria had been called upon? Had the faction that had sent the message then dithered as they sat in orbit hoped that an Andorian presence would drive off the Federation delegation then cow the legitimate government into bowing to their demand? She turned her head to look past Drizzt at the Ambassador again who was frowning. Was he thinking the same thing she was? She turned back to Remae. "This I believe is a question best put to Sei Lara who has had far more exposure to members of the opposition than I have." She turned back to Sei Lara. "Ambassador would you answer the Admiral's question *briefly* please?" Sei Lara did his best to look offended. "That is a terrible stipulation to put upon a diplomat Kar, brevity is not in our task description and besides I'm not certain my superiors wouldn't find that a breach of protocol." He regarded her glare mildly for a few seconds before waving his hand and giving in. "All right, all right. I will speak unofficially, completely off the record. If this goes outside this chamber expect me to be forcibly retired and that would make me very unhappy." He turned his attention to Remae and leaned forward with his elbows on the table and a sober look on his face. "What you seem to have arrayed against your efforts Admiral are a number of minor officials, mostly regional in nature though their reach no doubt extends into the planetary government since we wouldn't have been called here otherwise. As to the concept of a civil war." He stroked his chin thoughtfully as he settled back into the chair and looked away for a moment before turning back. "Those sorts of things can be very hard to predict from an internal standpoint but had they that intention I'm certain they would have tried to enlist us in their cause and the subject never came up." He muttered darkly. "Not that they didn't have a number of opportunities with all of their nattering about." (Reply: Remae, any) "The populace is a different story and I can't speak for them but the outlook isn't good. Demonstrations and attacks on off worlders is a sure prelude to riots if the government doesn't crack down. If they do nothing then the citizenry will be emboldened to further and more outrageous acts but if they crack down too hard it could foment a civil uprising. There's no way to know at this point how they plan to respond and that darkens the ice. Could it happen? Certainly. Will it? It's too early to tell." (Reply: Remae, any) (Posted by Charles G) (Kir Kumari - Conference Room - CO - Admiral Remae Ktell - 1505) Remae was listening the Kar and again, the Andoiran was continuly surprising him. Was he even interested in Trill? "There's no way to know at this point how they plan to respond and that darkens the ice. Could it happen? Certainly. Will it? It's too early to tell.", said the Kar. "I agree.", said the Admiral and stood up, "Can I see my officer now?", and he added, "Thank you Kar, your insights are appreciated but tell me, before I go, what are your plans for your new Andorian Planetary Alliance?" (Reply from Sheia) (Kir Kumari - Conference Room - Kera Sheia - 1507) "I agree.", Admiral Remae rose to his feet as this meeting wound down, "Can I see my officer now?", Kera Sheia stood to her feet as well. "Of course, one of the guards outside will show you to medical." "Thank you Kar, your insights are appreciated but tell me, before I go, what are your plans for your new Andorian Planetary Alliance?" She gave him a slight smile. "I would think it obvious Admiral, our intentions are peaceful to those who wish peace." She watched the Federation delegation file out before tapping her communicator. "Medical this is Kar Sheia, the Federation Admiral is coming to see his officer. See that he gets full cooperation." =^= Yes Kar. =^= "Lieutenant Joral what are we doing to safeguard our crew?" =^= Orders were sent down to be vigilant and transport up at the first sign of trouble.=^= "New orders are that no one is allowed on the surface after dark. They will return to the ship by 1900 local time but may transport down again at 0800 tomorrow." =^= Understood Kar. I will have the orders transmitted down.=^= She signed off.. "That was all very magnanimous of you." Sei Lara said as he stopped on the other side of the table. "If I didn't know better I would think you were intent on full cooperation with the Federation." Kera Sheia met his eyes solidly. "Ambassador it is evident even to you that we were brought here under false pretenses else you would not have been so open to the Admiral. We have been used as a bargaining chip by an unruly faction of their planetary government in an attempt to gain power. Was this fact revealed to your superiors? Were you told to help initiate a coup in the Trill government?" "Absolutely not!" He sputtered. Her look was grim. "Then we owe them no support or allegiance and I for one have no issue with undermining their efforts. I will not be a part of a proxy war with the Federation initiated by a supposedly peaceful delegation. We are not Tal Shiar or Obsidian Order here Ambassador, we are Andorians sent to Trill for a singular purpose." Sei Lara's laugh started as a low rumble before he leaned forward in open mirth. After a moment he straightened up while wiping the tears from his eyes as he spoke. "I would not enjoy being your enemy I think. So what are your plans? Are you going to forcibly whisk me back to Andoria?" "Of course not Ambassador...," she said with mock sweetness, "...we will remain in orbit and you will continue to treat with the Trill government." Her eyes sparked. "The true Trill government if they are open to some form of negotiations. I presume that you will have to communicate with your superiors to decide how that should best be handled." "Yes you are correct, I had best be going." Sei Lara left the chamber leaving her alone with the Guard Commander who had been silent but observant the whole time. She turned and met his gaze. "You have permission to speak freely, I want your insights on what has happened here, whatever you may be thinking." (Reply: Drizzt) (Posted by Charles G) (Kir Kumari - Sickbay - CO - Admiral Remae Ktell - 1515) Escorted into Sickbay, the Admiral noticed that Ensign Taya was in a biobed receiving treatment and Tesha was nearby. "Ensign -- how are you, what happened to you?", he said with concern as he walked closer to the treatment area. (Reply from Sheia, Taya, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Kir Kumari, Sickbay, Tactical Ensign jg Taya, 1518) The sickbay door opened and Admiral Remae and his small entourage were escorted in by an Andorian. When Taya saw him, she sat up quickly and hopped off the biobed. She felt a steadying hand on her arm from her shreva, but she wasn't light-headed anymore, though there was still some pain in her right side. "Sir!" said Taya as she stood at attention. She felt her cheeks warming at the admiral seeing her in shorts and a tank top, with her hair a tousled mess. "Ensign. How are you? What happened to you?" Admiral Remae didn't seem to mind Taya's appearance, so she relaxed her posture. "Just a little disagreement with four Trill. It didn't go so well for me, but two of them know better now than to start something with an Andorian!" As Taya beamed with pride, she felt a discreet rap on her right thigh. Glancing at shreva by moving only her eyes and antennae, she saw a stern expression from Tesha. "The Trill told me to leave their world and take the Kir Kumari with me, sir. I tried to walk away, but they wouldn't let me. I'm not clear on all the details, but some others helped me and had me beamed here." "Ensign Taya was treated by our doctor," said Tesha. "She's going to be fine." Shreva must have sensed something from Admiral Remae about why she had left the meeting. "Ensign Taya is my daughter. I'm her shen mother." He had though of little else in fact through the entire day, and now that it was just about time of the building to close up for the evening he decided to make his move. He had to know if Kazran recognised him. If he’d accept him back into the family. As such, he knocked on the door. Looking up from the display infront of him, Kazran raised an eyebrow. ~That damn woman has gone home early again and not told me.~ he thought to himself. Walking to the door, he opened it, "Can I......" he paused. A look of shock flew over his face, ~No.... it can't.......~ Jaton nodded his head in deference. A sign of deference not only to his brother's political position, but also the fraternal piety he owed Kazran as the head of the Batos family. He then deactivated his communicator and its universal translator. "I apologise for the intrusion, Minister," he said in a soft and reassuring tone of the Treshi dialect that he and his brother grew up speaking. "I was an acquaintance of your parents, and, having been offworld for some time, just recently heard of their passing. I was hoping, with your permission as the new head of the family, to pay homage to them and their memory at the Batos shrine." ?Kazran looked at the person in front of him and fought down a rising anger in him, "An acquaintance.... of what sort? A friend, work colleague or a son." Jaton sat in one of the chairs across from him. "I... I think you know the answer to that question already.” ?"Do I? My brother died. We mourned him." Kazran sat opposite him, "And yet now here you are. Or at least an imposter. " Jaton sighed. “I know. And I must apologise wholeheartedly for my long absence. If I had an explanation I would give it to you. But I remember nothing between being shot in the head and waking up in the Utopia Planitia sickbay nearly 25 years later.” Kazran stared at this man in front of him and shook his head, "Apologise? Really? Is that all you have to say? I'm not even sure you are my brother. The brother I knew would have contacted us immediately. Told us he was alive. I mean, what proof do I have that you are even him?" “And I probably would have, had my first encounter with the family not been Kasian breaking my nose upon finding out who I was,” Jaton replied, his voice rising ever so slightly in anger. He stopped himself and sighed. “If it will help prove who I am, you can order the ministry to perform whatever scans or tests you wish. But I promise it’s me.” "I... don't know if I can believe you. I mourned you. Mourned my baby brother. How am I supposed to reconcile that with the fact that, purportedly, you are sitting here ." Jaton hung his head. "I know it's hard. Believe me it was hard for me to adjust to as well. The fact that I had 25 years of my life robbed from me. To be told upon waking that I was dead." He was quiet for a moment. "I would like to find some sort of place in the family once again, but if you believe that I don't deserve one, then I'll bow to your wishes as the head of the family. But I would at least like your permission to visit our shrine." Looking at him, Kazran felt something. ~This man in front of me, this person, the way he looked, the way he bowed his head when he felt guilty for something that wasn't his fault.... Could this be....~ Taking a breath, Kazran softened slightly, "I.... this is a lot... I need to be sure. I need to be absolutely sure you are him. You can understand that, in my position, it's not been unheard of for people to try and lie and cheat our family." "I am well aware. You'll notice I turned off my universal translator before I began this conversation." Jaton then leaned in slightly and lowered his voice. "Avusturya'dayken bir yabanc?yd?m." Almost immediately, Kazran answered, "?imdi kendi ülkemdeyim ve yine bir yabanc?y?m." Closing his eyes, Kazran took a deep breath, opened his eyes and looked at Jaton, "I.... jaton.... brother.... " Jaton smiled, tears in his eyes. "It's me," he said offering a hand to his older brother. Kazran reached for his hand and then stopped. Looking at this man, he turned his head away and sighed, "How must I look to you? I'm old, aged, not the man you remember. " Jaton smiled. "But I see the young man that I remember in there. The man I looked up to as a boy. The man I still look up to." Jaton stood and moved around the desk, his arms opening for an embrace. Looking at him, a flood of emotions filled his very being. Hos brother, hos baby brother was back. Wiping a tear from his eye, Kazran drew his brother into a tight embrace. "Don't ever do this to us again. You understand me?" Jaton felt a warm feeling for the first time in a long time. The feeling of acceptance. "I promise." "I never thought I would say this but I am grateful to Starfleet for bringing you back to us. If there is anything I can do to repay this favour, you call me." Jaton smiled and chuckled. "I'll be sure to pass that along." (reply none) (posted by Spencer and Jackie) (Mystique- Holodeck - Science officer Ensign jg Adala Michaels - 1835) Adala had been working non-stop in the labs for several hours ) and finally had a chance for a break. She at once headed for her quarters. Several minutes later she stood before the door of the holodeck, now instead of her regulation uniform she wore a pair of tan slacks, and a matching long sleeved top, pockets adorned the legs of her slacks. The pockets held a simple first aid kit and a small chalk bag among other things. On her shoulders were battery powered lamps, she wore no helmet, never did, found them to be cumbersome and in the way. Adala tapped the panel by the door “Computer initiate program Adala 08” She had worked up ten programs, each one harder than the one before. They were meant to be ran in order from easiest to hardest. Each program lasted an hour. They were all intense physically and mentally. As the computer initiated the program she thought about her new posting, so far all she’d done is been stuck in the lab. Not to her liking. She’d much rather be doing something … out there. But she also knew that the work she was doing was important. The computer finished initializing the program and the door slid open. She stepped inside, the door closing behind her. The scene before her was a panorama of cliff dwellings, she stood on the floor of a large cave. The openings to the dwellings above her, fading into the blackness above. The only light from the lights she had attached to her shoulders. They swayed with each movement, back and forth. What would she find above, she wondered. She never knew because she’d input many things that could happen, all or none. That is what made these programs so challenging. You didn’t know what to expect. The only constant was the climbing. She moved towards the cliff face with confidence, a confidence she didn’t always carry with her outside of her rock climbing, but one she knew she had to portray. She looked up and found her first mark. A doorway about 10 feet up and off to the left. With that in sight she reached up for her first handhold and boosted herself upwards. She climbed like this for several minutes, taking the time to find each handhold, to think about each move. Above her, eyes watched as she climbed. A smile spreading across the creatures features. -It’s about time- (The Unknown - Holodeck - The Voice - 1845) His hands moved over the console before him, the smile on his face much like the smile the creature in the holodeck. ~Keep climbing, come to me~. (Mystique- Holodeck - Science officer Ensign jg Adala Michaels - 1845) Adala paused and glanced upwards, then sook her head and continued her climb. ~Knock it off Adala there is nothing there ~ Although she knew her program had surprises she didn’t remember ever having this feeling of being watched. She moved steadily until she reached the door and pulled herself inside. She turned in the doorway, the light from the flashlights illuminating the inside of the structure. There was nothing of interest in the outter room, just piles of debris from the crumbling walls. She slowly moved towards the door on the far side, deeper into the cliff face. What she wanted would be there, deep within the cliff itself. The rocks strewn along the passageway beyond took on earie shapes as the light passed over them, sending strange shadows flitting along the walls. The corridor was about 10 meters in length and she’s walked about half of it when the flashlights began to flicker .. she was about to stop to check the battery pack when she was plunged into darkness. His steps were slow and thoughtful as he glided across the deck. He was more synthetic than man now, possessing capabilities that the Borg collective could only have conceived in their fondest electronic dreams but that would not save him from the displeasure of his Masters though they were temporally far removed. The door ahead of him swung open with a muted whisper and he stepped into the darkened chamber which was lit only by a thick pillar of electronic wizardry which dominated the center of the room. It's gauges and diagnostic panels were backlit in red and sat at eye level. He stepped forward in trepidation and spoke. "Meta, six, four, five, alpha reporting." From the pillar two beams of green light washed over him, beginning at his head and slowly continuing until his whole body had been catalogued. The voice that issued from every corner of the room was decidedly not human or any other humanoid form, sounding more alike to the gamesters of Trisklellion. "Identity confirmed. Your failure is evident, there has been no change in the time stream." He dropped to one knee trembling before the power and menace embodied in the voice. "The window of opportunity is slowly closing. If that window is missed then our destruction is assured. You have two point three months to accomplish the mission. Your quarry must be eliminated. Every second you waste draws us nearer to oblivion." His trembling only increased. "He is gone now but they will return, there will be time." "Why did you not follow?" "Even in a cloaked ship secrecy would not be insured. There is a machine intelligence aboard that could undo all of our planning and expose me." The pause was pregnant. "Yes. Your secrecy must not be compromised lest it corrupt the time stream. This mission they are on will not last long. When they return you must strike. With every failure more assets are lost in your future, our present." He fell upon his face, groveling in fear. "You have given me every advantage. I will succeed. The bomb in his office failed and he survived the crash of his fighter but there are many other ways he can be destroyed." "Only do not allow yourself to be discovered, like a cascade of destruction it would travel through the time stream and we would cease to exist. You were sent back for this purpose. Do not fail us." "I will not fail." His voice was a tormented cry. He heard footsteps from the darkened corners and screamed. "Remember the pain...," the voice continued as he was grabbed by many hands and dragged away, "...for every failure it will grow." A door open and he was carried through struggling, the buzz and clicks of sinister machinery growing behind him. " Rejoining the Federation has been the biggest goal of my presidency. We need them now more than ever. There have been rumors and speculation surrounding the pools within the Caves of Mak'ala. Researchers at the highest level of their fields have identified a highly infectious virus within the pools named the Kopin Virus. This virus is lethal upon direct contact to any symbiote. We have Isolation barriers in place quarantineing the infected pools. The barriers are not a permanent fix but merely a temporary solution. We have a solemn duty to protect the symbiotes we share our great world with. The only hope for the survival of our symbiote population is to rejoin the Federation to prevent further loses. The Trill disease and virus contamination task force has been granted huge financial resources to investigate any possible solution to the Kopin Virus. A cure has been discovered. This cure can only be obtained from the Federation as a member of the federation, Trill would have free trade with other member worlds in a successful effort to combating the virus. For the first time in over 26 years, Jaton was with his family and a part of the family once again. And of course, still being young, there was a little bit of talk about securing an advantageous match for him. But Jaton had laughed it off. But he wasn't laughing now. The family had gathered in the main common room in the house to listen to the president's address. The sun had long since set and the younger children had been sent to bed hours ago, but it was still streaming through behind the president's figure. He had gone back to Leran Manev, the traditional seat of government. This must be serious. As the president first spoke of his intentions to rejoin the Federation, there were mixed expressions on his family's faces. But when the speech turned to the explanation of the Kopin virus, all faces in the room went stony in fear. Jaton and Kasian exchanged a worried glance; they may not have been on the best of terms still, but the fact of the matter was that they still cared enough about each other to express concern over each other's well-being. They were the only two members of the family that were joined. They didn't know what this would mean for them just yet. But it would mean needing to restore the working connections between Starfleet, Trill, and the Federation as soon as possible. The speech ended, and Jaton pulled Kazran aside.
