Trip reached into his satchel with his off hand and handed a PADD to Ensign Merek. "It's the design schematics for a new Starship class my dad was working on before the shut Utopia Planitia down. The NX-1672, she was supposed to be the first of the Exeter class starships. Instead she's just sitting there, doing nothing. She was started post Andorian departure so everything is mostly new, just not finished. They got 75% of her done before the project was scrapped." She accepted the PADD he handed her. She had never helped with someone else’s pet project before. She skimmed the contents looking at the blue prints. ~Seems to be all there.~ "Anyways, I'm not really an engineer, I know my way around somethings, but not enough to basically finish a Starship. I know that a lot of resources are being put into fixing the Republic, but if you have any spare hands or parts, this might be something to look into." He explained. Keira didn’t know if he was reading him right but was he hopeful? “Promise I’ll look at it, when I have some free time. I’m sure we’ll be soaring through the vastness of space in no time and I’ll have tons of time on my hands. We can’t keep this pace up forever, right?” she said with a grin. (Reply Trip) “Thanks for stopping by, I know you didn’t have to.” Merek said. (Reply Trip, if you want. Or None) (Posted by Todd) Mars Facility – Engineering - Ensign JG Scott Matrix – 1101) ~Geez…finally found engineering.~ Thought Scott wondering in. Managing to get into the door through the rush of people and equipment he took a long look around. ~Mekek…I have no idea who that is.~ “Excuse me…” Scott started. The crewman was too busy to acknowledge his existence. The activity wasn't unlike a transport hub. People were moving about doing their own thing, in a rush to get to wherever they had to be. "Hello, can you direct me to Ensign Merek?” "Ah, yes I’m ensign Matrix reporting as ordered." (Reply Sekal) “Wow this place is hop’n busy.” Scott started. “Where would you like me?” (Reply Sekal) (Posted by Steve) Ensign Sekal & Luma’lenai – 1108) “Ensign Sekal, some of what I am going to say is not for your ears but, the situation calls for my flexibility. I am ordering you, therefore, to keep secret the details of what you are about to hear. Understood?” The Admiral spoke. Sekal nodded slightly. "Of course Admiral." “Luma, I understand you spoke to Ensign Foxglove yesterday. I need to know if you are going to allow her onto the Mystique or not.”, he asked. Luma was excited to have been included in the informational briefing about heading to the Trill place. All of the various small ones were young and were learning their way about but they had such passion and enthusiasm and that pleased the elder Lenai to no end. The Admiral, the Sekal and their friends had gone about rebuilding trust with Luma over the last few days since the Jaelle had annoyed Luma and had attempted to destroy Luma’s trust. But now, now they were talking about restoring access to the drives and Luma would be happy to sail the starsong again, and to find her purpose again after so long stuck. Entropy was the anathema of the Lenai, and the last few decades had been harsh in loneliness. =^= The Jaelle is duplicitous and should not be trusted. Yet if the Admiral and the Sekal vouch for the Jaelle, Luma will allow the untrustworthy intelligence aboard. Luma's dislike of those who speak untruths is less than her desire to seek the starsong again. However, Luma will watch them both. Intently. There will be no duplicity without the knowledge of the Admiral.=^= unspoken was 'Whom Luma likes' but it was there in her voice. The Vulcan shrugged his shoulders. "Those in intelligence are often hated or feared because of their need for secrecy and that need often calls for twisting of or alteration to the truth. This is unfortunate and undesirable but in their field of work it is sometimes necessary for survival. Unless her actions proclaim otherwise we must assume she is working for the good of the Federation. If evidence ever comes to light to the contrary it will of course be evaluated by those trained to do so." “Very well, We plan to escort the Ambassador back to Trill, a planet that is about 10 days away, stay a while and then return. This means many of the people who were just in this room will be onboard and will be the crew for this mission. They will be at various stations tied to their speciality: medical, science, engineering, conn, OPS, security, tactical and intelligence. I can see that from your point of view, once fully operational, your skin, the Mystique doesn’t need a crew, you don’t need a crew but we need you.” Luma was intrigued by what the monologuing Admiral was speaking, but she knew it was against the rules these small ones lived by to interrupt him while he was speaking. She wished that the Sekal could hear her more easily, but it was what it was. “Firstly, this crew, many of these people are very young and haven’t spent much time in space, they are very competent but this will be, for many, their first deep-space mission. They need time to learn how to operate a vessel like the Mystique and they need to be able to do it without your help so they can make the mistakes they need to make. The ship will be leaving our space and outside of our borders. We do not know what is out there and we need to be ready. 10 days of travel will give them vital experience and hopefully, learn the operations and mechanics of a ship.” Luma interpreted the pause to be a need for confirmation, =^= Luma will let the young small ones learn the systems. Luma will even let them damage them. Luma does not desire to let the young small ones destroy the skin's systems. While the young ones could hitch a ride home, Luma would be stranded and Luma can not spend centuries alone in the skin again.=^= Sheer terror infused Luma's vocalizations and her physical voice rose in volume as the Lenai spoke. "Luma you have no need to be concerned." Sekal spoke in his normal, unemotional tone. "Should the need become necessary we would be able to disconnect you from the computer core. You would then be taken where we go. There are many computer systems that use the gel packs." Sekal folded his arms. " You have no need to fear being abandoned." =^= The Sekal does not know if this is true. It is untried. Luma does not wish to try in the midst of an emergency. =^= Though she was calming some, the anxiety could be heard in Luma's voice. Sekal shook his head. "Vulcans do not lie Luma, you should have seen this from the mind meld. The technology has been used extensively and I have researched this. The gel packs, protected, will function as well as your former body." He paused only an instant. "They simulate neural tissue which is why your life force adapted so readily to being housed in them. They will be sufficient until we find a suitable interface." Luma was still disquieted with the whole situation but she was doing better. Her being silent as she thought was taken as a sign of her assent so the Admiral continued speaking. “This makes my next comment and request very difficult for me but, I need to say this. If we do this, I need to be in command of the mission and the Mystique." =^= Like the Vanyssa. Luma understands the Admiral. The bondmate the Admiral will find will clarify the inevitable misconceptions. It is a shame the Admiral is deficient in telepathy. It seems inefficient to operate this way. =^= This was Luma-speak for 'I do not like this'. “For a Captain, one of the ultimate decisions that could be made is ordering the destruction of their own ship. In rare and complicated situations, that sacrifice is sometimes asked for… every member of Starfleet understands this and understands they may have to give their lives for the greater good, of the mission and sometimes, without an explanation from their commanding officer. If I call for the destruction of the ship, Luma, will you follow that order and allow yourself to be killed and/or your skin to be destroyed, and possibly, killing all those on board as well?” Luma's sheer terror and anxiety spun high. She said nothing, only existed in a state of sheer terror and emotions. She was unaware that a loud keen was coming from her speakers. Sekal spoke up clearly. "Luma you must understand that what the Admiral has just spoken is something that is only used in times of dire emergency when no other alternative exists. It would be done with the intention to save others. StarFleet does not throw away the lives or its officers or crew needlessly." Luma cried =^= There is always an alternative to the death of beings needlessly before the entropy succeeds. It is the duty of all beings to walk the path of light and resist entropy. Luma long ago learned how to flee Entropy. Luma will not embrace it. Luma will protect the young, small ones.=^= panic, sheer panic. The concept of death was difficult for a race of people whose entire culture seemed to revolve around promoting life. And Luma was starkly terrified of death. "The Vanyssa which you hold in high regard would have done this if necessary. Every command officer must face the realization that at some point in their command they may have to order some to their deaths to protect many others. Death is an enemy and not to be cozened but all life at some point ends. We Vulcans understand this though our lifespan is greater than many others. If an answer can be found that negates such a sacrifice and death can be avoided then it shall." =^= Luma will not seek the void. Luma will live. Luma is the last of her people and Luma is scared. =^= As sometimes happened, Luma sounded more like a child than the eons old being she was. Luma was also not measurably calmer. She did not believe that Sekal's theory of moving her would work until they tried it, and she was very afraid. "Does Luma believe that the Admiral wishes to harm her?" This seemed to be the sticking point, the matter of trust they had been attempting to foster. =^= Luma hopes not. But bad people came and made holes in Luma. Luma wants the drive power returned and the bondmate secured. Luma is most worried when in the recording the Jaelle made it clear she was outside the Admiral's command structure. Luma fears the Jaelle and the dark bringer of entropy within her. Luma hoped that the Admiral's command structure will keep all of us safe. But the boom on Earth was bad and Luma is scared of the shadows at night that sent people to cut holes in her.=^= Luma was indeed very afraid and less than a week of trust just was not enough time to undo the decades of loneliness. "Indeed." Sekal noted. "It is true that the enemies of the Federation in whatever form they take have and will continue to subvert our efforts however we cannot shrink back from what needs to be done. If we are successful in our mission then entropy will have been resisted and pushed back to a small extent. All of our efforts now must be focused on continuing to drive it back and restoring order even beyond what had existed before. To fail to do so is to surrender to entropy and allow all things to continue an inexorable slide toward chaos." This made sense to Luma and Sekal could tell that she was calming down, =^=The Admiral will keep all of the small ones safe? And Luma?=^= She persisted, needing much reassurance. =^=What happens to the skin and to Luma when we return to Mars?=^= Sekal nodded. "The Admiral will do everything in his power to keep all safe including Luma. The skin will no doubt be mothballed as intended due to its antiquated nature however since you have expressed interest in joining the operation on Mars you could be moved to the primary computer on the base. It is a tremendous operation we have undertaken and your help would be invaluable to us." Admiral Remae listened to the dialogue going on in front of him, Luma may not have been a flesh and blood person but she spoke as if she was. Over the communication system, it was no different as if he was speaking to anyone else and that is how he intended to treat Luma. A pause had occurred so Remae spoke up once more. “Ensign Sekal, Luma? From what I can gather, the mission can go ahead?”, he asked as the work required on the Mystique wasn’t minor and plans needed to be made. “I promise to do everything I can to make everyone safe, to protect them, to treat everyone equally and to not allow anyone to hurt anyone else. You are my crew and your safety come before any other considerations.”, he said as he waited for any other matters to come up before adding one final piece of information. “Luma, we’ll be making sure all the systems of the Mystique will be ready, including weapons. We hope not to use them, but we need to be able to defend ourselves.”, he said the point was made and he didn’t want to labour it. Luma was pleased that the weapons would be restored. She would have a place, even if the Mystique was retired. She would have a proper bondmate. It had taken many years, but the promises of Winters and Saleke were coming true. =^= Yes! We will sail the starsong, teach the young small ones and reunite the worlds. It is a worthy goal. And there will be no deaths of the young small ones needlessly.=^= Luma was ready to go now, not several days from them. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles and Melinda) (Mars Facility – Operations Centre - Conference Room - Science Officer Ensign Jaton Alyl and Medical Officer Ensign Kasian Poldan – 1150) As the meeting wrapped up, Jaton entered the relevant orders into his PADD, and began to stand up. But as he did, he saw the figure of his fellow Trill and his son Kasian down the table. He looked intently at the man, trying to catch his eye. Kaz sighed he didn’t have the Entergy at all at this moment. He didn’t want to go home. He didn’t want to see all those trills again, however he was excited to be able to see his youngest brother and dad again he really missed them. Kaz stood noticing Jaton staring at him. Kaz rolled his eyes but waited outside the door after leaving the room for the other trill. As Jaton came out of the room Kaz fell into step beside him. “What!” Kaz said a bit more harsh then he intended to. "Look," Jaton said, "you might not have believed me when I told you who I was and you might not have wanted anything to do with me, but fact of the matter is we're heading back to the homeworld and we're going to have to work together on this as the only Trill on base. We need to find some way to work with each other without resorting to physical violence." Kasian rolled his eyes again.”fine whatever” Kaz had actually planned in talking to Jaton at some point, but he couldn’t bring himself to act like everything was fine it wasn’t he wasn’t even sure if it would ever be. “So Idetse told me tons of story’s about Jaton or you or you know it what I mean when I was growing up. I guess I have this vision in my head of the kind of person he was. So seeing you at 28 honestly is confusing.” Kaz didn’t like showing the Vulnerable side of himself at all, but he needed Jaton to understand how confused he was about this situation. "If it's any consolation it's just as confusing for me. The entire world I knew was ripped away from me in an instant and it's been everything I can do to concentrate on playing catch-up on 25 years of science, rather than what's happening with the people I love." He stopped and sighed. "I was so sorry to hear about my parents. And I know that it must've affected you much the same. Were you there?" Kaz nodded “I was.” Kaz didn’t like this subject he never talked about his grandparents. A part of him died with them. “If we have time I’ll take you to see them when we get home.” Kaz was trying to be nice remembering what Trip has said. This was his chance to get to know the man he wanted to know for so long. Jaton nodded, a small smile spreading on his face. "I'd like that." He then placed his had on Kasian's shoulder. "I am sorry that I wasn't there for you growing up, and I couldn't be a father to you and your brother. But I want you to know that if I could've been, I absolutely would've been. And I'd like to get to know the men who the two of you have become today. If you'll let me." Kaz shrugged “you were dead besides we have a pretty good dad…. Wait you know about Arvos?” Kaz was sure he didn’t say anything about him to Jaton and he wouldn’t be in starfeet records. "Your mother told me. She came to see me the other day. It was good to catch up. It was obviously hard, but at the same time it was good. Cathartic." “I see so you’ve seen mom. You know she trying to force me to marry this awful woman as well right. She a complete ice queen, and it’s all for political reasons like we owe that family or something.”Kaz wasn’t sure what made him say that it just came out Kaz still wasn’t sure how he was getting out of this marriage. "Ah, so she's carrying on in atsa's shoes." Jaton chuckled. "Have you met her yet? And what does Kazran think of all this?" “I have met her yeah she’s here mom decided to bring her on this so call diplomatic mission of hers. As for Uncle Kazran there isn’t much he can say mom has higher political standing at this point.” Kaz sighed “I just want to find love you know even if it’s just a stupid emotion I want to know what it’s like to be with someone who loves me and not my mothers power.” Kaz had now forgotten who he was talking he was just sharing his feelings like he would with any friend. "I can understand that," Jaton said. "I'm sure that if I had made it back home to Trill once more, atsa would've tried to match me up with someone just as your mother is doing for you. That is until she found out about Addison's rank. Then she might've let me alone. If I can offer some advice?" Kaz shrugged “sure I guess you are probably the only one who really understands.” "Maybe get to know this girl a little bit. Maybe she's not as cold as you think. And besides, marriage is for the long haul. Some might argue that it's better to have some soup that you heat up over time rather than a piping hot bowl that cools quickly. But if it's she's really as bad as you think, then I can talk to your mother and Kazran about it. Maybe get them to lay off you for a little bit." “So yeah let me be clear on this. I’m not some jerk who just passes judgment on a person because my mother likes them. We grew up together. I've been around her my whole life. I know her very well. She’s mean, cold, and spoiled. I also know she will not leave trill for very long so me being in starfleet works for now.” Kaz knew Jaton didn’t know him or the whole story about it. He also could tell he was trying to be helpful. "Ah," Jaton said, all of a sudden feeling slightly embarrassed. "So that method's not going to work." “Listen I got to stop by medical check on some things then I’m going to the gym. We should have more of a chat again maybe i can answer some questions for you.” Jaton nodded. "I'd like that," he said with a smile. "I'm glad we can at least talk to one another. (reply none) (posted by Spencer and Richard) Mars Facility – Operations Centre – Admiral’s Office - CO Admiral Remae Ktell – 1209) He didn’t like this other office, and he wasn’t set up correctly – how many offices did 1 Admiral need? He had counted 3 not including the Ready Rooms on the Republic or the Mystique. This one was full of boxes and was in desperate need to be sorted out, like the rest of the OPS centre. At the door, he saw Ensign Alyl wanting to come in and the Admiral waved his hand indicating the door wasn’t locked and he was welcome to enter. “Ensign. Come on it… how can I help you?”, he said, pointing towards the only chair that wasn’t covered in old equipment or dusty covers. (Reply from Alyl) (Posted by Anthony Keen) Ensign Sekal- 1232) “Ensign…My I call you Sekal?” "Of course Doctor... that is my name as you are obviously aware." “Sekal, I’m Ailynn please. I’m not here to tell you off, I’m not here to lecture you. There’s no need to make me feel assured. All I ask is a degree of…logic to your experimentation. Continue to explore new tastes, flavours, textures, but all I ask is that you maintain the levels of essential vitamins that you absolutely have to have.” "Understood Doctor." “There is one more thing, you mentioned that you were cold. Personally it doesn’t bother me, never has, but feel free to speak to Chief Carter outside, she feels the cold here, and has taken to wearing a thermal base layer, you know like those things mountaineers wear. Just a thought” "A thermal base layer sounds logical thank you. I see no reason to bother Chief Carter but will find something beneficial in the base's data banks. Thank you Doctor Bracken." (Reply: Bracken) It seemed that the visit was over and Sekal rose to his feet. Something seemed to have changed since the mind meld with Luma'Lenai however. Before he would have swept out without so much as a backward glance but this time he lingered just a tad. He stopped at the door on the way out after picking up the supplements she gave him. "Once again Doctor thank you for your time. It has been an enlightening experience." (Reply: Bracken) He then turned and left. There was time for a late lunch before he returned to his office. The timing of the Admiral's briefing on the Trill mission had thrown today's scheduled activities off by a significant margin. He had no idea as of yet what awaited him at his office either. (Reply Darpeg) The intelligence officer approached and said, "Where do you need me?" ~To the point~ he thought to himself as he got out of the chair and signed out of the terminal in front of him. All of the screens went blank. "I'll show you." he said as he pointed back past her and began walking in that direction, "The betazoid woman seems to have been the leader of the crew which infiltrated the Mystique. I have Taya & Darpeg interviewing other members of her team, but I thought your... unique skillset was a better way to go with this one. She's drugged, so the telepathy shouldn't be an issue." They got to the door, "I'd be interested to see if you can get any information out of her." "Computer, Activate advanced interrogation protocol. Intelligence authority Delta 1." The computer beeped its acceptance "If your squeamish you might not want to follow me down this path." She said as the door slid open as she stepped in. Carson smiled at the theatrics and headed back to SECOPS to continue to watch the interrogations live. (Mars Facility, Security Complex, SECOPS -Sec/Tac Ensign (jg) Garek Darpeg - 1850) =^=Somehow I think that they are all connected in someway, you have more data than I do right now.=^= "I don't disagree," Carson replied, "Keep up the good work and let me know if anything else comes up." Foxglove entered room. "I will see if I can get any more information from my subject." stated Darpeg, realizing that it was his cue to leave the room. Darpeg went to the terminal in his room and read several nonviolent methods of interrogation. The most interesting was the stare method of Garek Milos of Cardassia's Obsidian Order. He was able to get his subject to say anything after being stared out for four hours. (Reply none) Posted by Gary Dupree (Mars Facility, Security Complex, Ens(jg) Jaelle Foxglove - 1849) The shuttle touched down and Jaelle made haste into the security complex. What she saw looking over the record made her skin crawl. It was uncomfortable to say the least. This was indeed bigger than they knew, and more than likely involved key players on a much larger scale. A scale Jaelle needed to figure out. She came to Ensign Peters office, not wasting time with formalities they both knew why she was there she asked. "Where do you need me?" (Reply Peters) She fell behind the young Ensign as he lead her to the cell where the batezoid man was held, and due to his nature he probably knew she was coming her first action had to be direct, swift, and unorthodox. Reaching the door she motioned for Carson to hold a brief second. "Computer, Activate advanced interrogation protocol. Intelligence authority Detla 1." The computer beeped its acceptance "If your squeamish you might not want to follow me down this path." She told Peter's as the door slide open and she stepped into the room. When she arrived, the intelligence officer Foxglove was there. Frowning, Taya stepped into her office instead and prepared her report. This was also a good time to pass along something else she discovered. When Foxglove was gone, Bring a PADD, Taya went to Carson. "Got a minute?" Taya didn't wait for an answer. "Mister Bolek talked to me." She knew Carson probably listened in. If not, the interrogation was recorded. "Bolek is a mercenary hired for his combat and computer skills. His job was to go to the bridge of the Mystique and hack into the command systems and implant a virus that would destroy the Luma entity." Taya let that sink in. "He didn't write the program; it was given to him by the team leader. He claims to not know who hired them, but in one of their practice runs on a holodeck simulating the Akira class, he overheard the word Roanoke. He said he doesn't know what that means." Taya paused again. "I don't know if Bolek told me everything, but I'm inclined to believe him." Taya placed the PADD she was holding on Carson's desk.
