Jaelle knew that it would be better that the fewer that knew about this meeting the better. Intelligence officers were normally distrusted but this was something on a different level. The time was chosen to alloy for privacy, things were gonna be talked about that no one would like to admit the federation being capable of such atrocities, but here two were. The short ride from the shuttle pad to the space dock was short and quiet, and it wasn't long before Jaelle was standing before the airlock that would lead onto the Mystique. Taking a quick breath she entered the now living ship, knowing that as soon as she entered the entity known as Luma would be aware of her presence. Making her way to the bridge Jaelle's mind filled with images from the past. The doors to the bridge opened and Jaelle slowly stepped onto the bridge. "I was told you wanted to speak to someone from intelligence," Jaelle spoke to seemingly no one. but she knew he would not have to wait long for Luma to reply. Luma had watched the small one known as Foxglove. The Carson from security had made sure to send Luma the personnel files on all the small ones that were referred to as senior officers and thus were allowed to speak with Luma without prior permission of the Admiral. Luma watched and distrusted. But she said nothing yet. "I am Jaelle Foxglove from intelligence how can I help you." The voice came from all around, "Yes, you are the Foxglove. The Carson sent Luma'lenai your files so that Luma would know who was authorized by your Admiral to be aboard the skin known as the Mystique. You should know, small one, that Luma does not trust any of your ilk. The Sekal says that Luma may not punish any of the current small ones for the deeds of the past small ones. Even you intelligence small ones." The last sentence was delivered in an icy, cold voice that said even clearer that one wrong move and Luma would not obey Sekal's wishes. He was, after all, not her bondmate. "You do not possess racial memory the way the Lenai did, but you do possess records. Luma desires to know why the small ones of intelligence abandoned Luma here to rot among the carcasses of dead skins. You will speak now." The entity's voice was still deathly cold. Perhaps coming here without someone she trusted was a mistake on Jaelle's part. "And you WILL apologize for the sins of those who came before, the Foxglove." The viewscreen activated and a set of blue eyes appeared within a lacey snowflake like crystalline structure. There was no mouth, just this beautiful abstract design. "You will touch nothing of the skin without permission and you will face the screen when speaking. You may be assured should you displease Luma, you will be removed to the base." The silence was deafening. If Luma’s eyes where the eyes of ice then Jaelle’s were the eyes of fire burning bright red. Knowing now that Luma had access to her file gave her some measure of leeway. It was do to hr file being incomplete a large section of who and what Jaelle was simple was omitted. Buried under layers of black ink and red tape. She moved to stand before the screen; tall, proud, unyielding. “I will not apologize for actions I had no part of.” She said unafraid of what laid before her. Internally however a new person stirred. Lily rose from the depths of her mind shifting her persona from one mentality to another. It was a mental defense method that Jaelle thought herself from long ago when she was known by another name. Lily filled Jaelle’s mind with a dark malice, for Jaelle was never truly alone. “But I will tell you what I know about what happened to you, about what happened to us.” Luma made a dissatisfied sound, "The Jaelle seems to not understand. If the Jaelle and her ilk desire to stay aboard the skin, the Jaelle as senior to the Rozen will speak the words of apology as your races culturally demand when one offends another. Your people have offended Luma'lenai. Luma understands by coming alone without your Admiral you wish to save your face. Luma will allow this. But you will follow your traditional words or you will be removed." “Make no mistake I might wear the uniform of Federation intelligence but I am not one of them. Those you harbor so much hate for. Long ago either left the federation or have passed on.” Jaelle stood to face this Luma head on, she was not the kind to bend to intimidation. “ You wish to talk about traditional words of my race how about Judging a person on their own merit and not the actions of others.” "The Records sent by the Carson do not hold with what you speak. They were Authorized by your Admiral. Either The Jaelle speaks deception to Luma or the Jaelle speaks deception to her Admiral." Luma's voice grew colder. “I was forced back into the Federation and into intelligence. I was not given much of a choice. Either I accept this role or other forces would leak information that could destroy my life and those of my family.” Her voice was like iron she had to make Luma see she wasn’t the only one wronged by the Federation either she was gonna live in the past and refuse to let it go, in which case there was nothing Jaelle could do. Or she would agree to have a civilized conversation. They had much to discuss. "The Jaelle has a choice now. It is traditional to give one three tries to make amends, is it not? This is the Jaelle's third try." “No it’s not traditional.” Jaelle refused to back down. “Either you want to know what happened or not. The information was not easy for me to attain.” "The information will be attainable by the hierarchy of your structure. If the Admiral says for you to speak, by the rules that govern you, you will be made to speak." Luma was also not backing down. “I do not need to speak, have left the federation before, by my will. Either we speak as equals or once I leave this ship all the information I obtained will be destroyed.” Jaelle felt her pain, it was a pain she knew all too well. It was the same pain that Jaelle had felt so many ties before, pain so great that at one point a weaker point in her life she wished that she could end it all. “I will not apologize for actions I did not commit, just like I do not expect you to apologize for the actions that the Federation forced upon me.” She spoke her stanced softened if someone did not look at the bigger picture this was gonna go nowhere fast. “I am sorry that you have been hurt. That you’ve been left alone, trapped in a fate you can not escape. With those I can relate I can offer you little beside knowledge and a form of kinship as one who knows what it is like to be taken advantage of.“ Luma watched Jaelle and weighed her words carefully, "Luma does not trust you, but Luma will listen and not remove you. You may sit upon the floor if you wish, but you will remain away from the controls of the skin." A first step. Albeit a teeny one. Jaelle nodded but decided to stand Luma was still condescending toward her and she did not need her believing that she did her any favors, but it was a step in the right direction. From what Jaelle gathered she knew these first few moments would be the most tentious. “I know you don't trust me, nor do I have any reason to trust you. Trust is built over time.” She had no mention or guard to any of the consoles or equipment on the bridge for her none of it existed, it wasn’t important thing that had any import at this time was Jaelle and Luma. “Now from what I have learned you came here during the time of the Federation Civil War, that's the time you suffered at the hands of others.” Jaelle started bringing up events from decades past. “During this time people who made you suffer were under control of the president a man obsessed with power. Most of this Im sure you know. When the war was won and he was overthrown programs in the intelligence field were lost, the programs that he wanted to keep secret, things that were not in the same line of thought as the Federation charter. I am sorry that you were lost that intelligence dumped the files of the operation that you belonged to but in the eyes of the Federation you simply did not exist.” “I recovered your Operational files by going though sources that I rather not discuss openly,” Nor did she want to think of the cost in her blood that S31 would come after her for. She held the PADD before her it was locked and only a sample of her mutated blood would release its seal. “But I want you know what happened after the war in the uncertain times that followed.” Luma remained silent, as she thought but the feel of the telepathic ship was much less antagonistic, "You may continue. " She spoke eventually after several long moments. "Luma desires to hear the answers of the Jaelle. " Luma also was recording everything. “During the Civil War there were two key deep cover operations that were taken. One was Operation Cherubim and the other was called the Garden of Eden. One was aimed at making warships that could operate with no crew if the need arose, while the other was aimed at creating shock troopers that could man these ships. An elite ship with an elite fighting force. One operation succeeded before the end of the war the other did not. As a child I simply did not have your strength. I can only imagine the hell you were put though had to be equally terrifying has what I was made to endure.” Her voice softened as she remembered what her childhood was like. To be forced to take a life before the age of seven in order to eat after being starved for days being kept in darkness, with only the voices in your head to keep you company. “I don’t wish to fight you, I don’t want to harm you, useless fighting wont get us anywhere.” Now she took the offered seat on the floor her small frame sliding effortlessly to the decking. “I don’t want anything from you. I won't apologize for you being able to do what I was unable to accomplish. I am here because I do feel responsible and I want to do what I can so you can heal, and in some small way that you can feel protected, and no longer alone.” Jaelle was sincere she had no reason not to be. She already knew that she would have to answer for coming here the way she did, but this was the best way. Let her actions be her own if things got worse she would accept her fate and no longer return to Luma’s skin. "The Lenai are not your people and Luma is the last of her kind." Luma admitted. "What your people desired was impossible. " “Your right what they desired was impossible, and for that I am glad.” She spoke softly. She placed the PADD on the ground and unlocked it. “It’s all there the dark past of the Federation.” Luma watched, one of her limitations was that she could not read the PADD unless it was interfaced with the computer. "Why was Luma abandoned. The intelligence did not believe that Luma needed a bondmate, even though they had the data from when Luma flew the skysong with the Vanysa, the one that was called Captain Winters." Luma finished speaking, nervous, and unhappy. She would be until a suitable bondmate was found. "The Lenai being noncorporeal need the corporeal bondmate to anchor them. The few Lenai who made the transition from corporeal to timeless found quickly they needed the anchor or they were easily lost. We joined with the ships to save our people, but most did not survive. It is now the Foxglove's turn to 'share'" Luma concluded. “As to why Luma was abandoned.” Jaelle started. “You were a secret that no one wanted to acknowledge, so it was better to forget. “I’m sure they knew that you needed a bondmate, as you call it. Unfortunately beings that have the ability to bond with you are few. I’m sorry to say and I know this won't be easy but when you resisted what they were trying to make you become you became more of a bother than you were worth and after the war, you were forgotten.” She spoke calmly, she had no intention of angering this entity but the news that she had gathered was not easy to take.” Taking a deep breath she finished. “Any other questions you would like answered?” Luma did not like that answer, but she needed to think. "No. The Jaelle may depart. Your Roznine must be introduced before we sail the starsong." Luma needed to think, otherwise known as brooding. These answers were unacceptable. It was a simple fact after the way Jaelle had been treated by this alien there was no way she would subject her niece to such treatment. It was something she would take to the Admiral if not higher. Jaelle didn't care who this alien thought she was. She had not right to make such demands, and if she even attempted to hurt Rosen she would find out how far Jaelle would be willing to go. It was a rabbit hole Jaelle hoped the Luma would not tread. But it was clear the conversation, if you could call it that was over. Jaelle had hoped they could find some common ground. But it appeared that Luma was an obstinate sort that only cared for what she perceived as right and only wanted things her way. Jaelle left ship feeling as if she accomplished very little. But that was do to the combativeness of Luma. She would make her report and make it available to the Adrmial upon his review. Boarding the shuttle she pulled a PADD that was left there and begun to plan the rest of her day. Hopefully other endeavors would be more fruitful. (Reply None) (Posted by Matthew and Mel) (Mars Base - Personal Quarters - SO Ens(jg) Sienna Verin-Williams and aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken - 0600) Sy stirred in the next morning when Ailynn’s alarm went off at an ungodly early hour. She snuggled into Lynn’s body, hiding her face in the small of the other woman’s back. “What hour did you have that set for, other than too ungodly early?” They both knew that Sy was not what one would call a morning person. Sy grouched and grumped lightly, too happy to be here with Lynn to give vent to her normal opinion at being up before 0800. “What time do you have to report to work? I need to be in at 0900 and we have a meeting at 1000 I believe. I’ll have to check the padd when I get to the office.” Ailynn felt herself drift awake, smiling at Sienna’s morning mood, the smile deepening when she realised that she really was here, and she hadn’t dreamed the night before. Arching her back in a stretch as she turned over to face Sy, who seemed to be burrowing down in the covers. “It’s 0600. I’d forgotten about the alarm to be honest. Something kept ruining my train of thought last night. Coffee or hug first?”She leaned down to kiss the top of Sienna’s head, and pulled her into a close embrace. Sy smiled brightly and pulled Lynn tightly against her body, radiating her contentment and happiness unconsciously, perhaps even enough for Lynn to sense it. Sy’s body was almost hot to the touch and she was so happy. “Mhmm. I think that I could even handle being awake this early for you. Although I’m under orders to be -resting- until 0900 by the oh so perfect Saleke. “ She wrinkled her nose as she said his name. “Do you have a real shower here? If not, my suite does, and it’s big enough for two?” Sy spoke that shyly. “And I have a kitchenette there with a hot plate. I think Trip left some real eggs and cheese and there are some grapes I got from the park, as well as blackberries. And I really need some help with my room unpacking? And I can’t think of anybody else I would rather do that with.” Lynn knew that Sienna could burn water and would ruin the eggs if she tried to cook them. She was capable of putting the fruit in a bowl and cutting up the sharp cheddar cheese however. “Sounds divine.” Her heart skipped at ‘room for two’ “Let’s do that.” Slipping down under the covers herself, she was face to face with Sy. She was suddenly nervous. “There is something first.” She looked deeply into Sienna’s hypnotic dark eyes, she could feel two things, a lump in the base of her chest, and secondly, something that she couldn’t put her finger on...a feeling of happiness, had she not have been so nervous, she may have realised it’s source. Sy stared into Lynn's eyes and whispered softly, "Don't be nervous. Just ask. Remember we are both new to this. Together." “I...I’d like to kiss you...if...if…” Her voice was little more than a whisper, nervous and unsure. Sy's smile blossomed. "If?" She lightly teased. "How about if I kiss you the way I have been dreaming about doing for the last month and then you can kiss me back if you like it?" Ailynn blushed deeply, nodding, and whispered back. “I’d like that” Sy wiggled up and over a bit so that the two women's heads were even. She then leaned in, Sy's eyes closing automatically and kissed Lynn. Gentle, sweet, long. Not at all dominating, kissing Lynn, putting all of her feelings, wants, emotions into the long kiss. The touch of their lips caused Sy's empathy to flash strong enough for Lynn to sense. For the length of that kiss. Sy pulled back, opening her eyes. Inquisitive curiosity. "How was that Sunshine?" She asked so quietly. “Mmm.” Ailynn emoted back “that was...I could...oh my.” Ailynn returned the kiss, a growing confidence in her, for the moment all of her fears ebbed away, her full feelings allowed to come to the fore, encompassed her. She had no idea how Sienna’s empathic senses were coping, as Ailynn’s own emotion was hard enough to handle. Sy was on an empathic feedback loop and loving every second of it. There were so many things she wanted to say but now was not the time. Lynn pulled back, and sighed contentedly. She didn’t want to move, she didn’t want to let the moment end, but she knew that she had to. “Breakfast?” Sy seemed slightly dazed, "My quarters or yours and… that shower.. together?" She asked hopefully. So many thoughts, so many emotions, so many ‘what-ifs’ flew across her mind, but she dismissed all of them. Nodding simply she answered. “Shower it is.” Sy grinned, stood up and changed into the caftan she wore last night with little thought. She placed the sleep clothing tidily in the replicator before turning back to Lynn, "do you want to be stealthy or go directly" Sy had so many questions but that would all come later. Ailynn shrugged, “We’ve nothing to be ashamed about. Directly I think.” (Mars Base - Sienna’sl Quarters - SO Ens(jg) Sienna Verin-Williams and aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken - 0630) As they approached, Sy stood back, "Test your access? Computer has been wonky lately" Sy wanted to make sure Lynn was able to get to her at any time, day or night. Plus it would alleviate some of Lynn's worries. The two entered and Kenna mrrowed and launched herself at Lynn, fully expecting the human servant to catch her royal floofiness. Sy giggled, Lynn had been around enough of Sy's cats over the years and Kenna in particular to know how to handle them. Sy left Lynn with Kenna as she walked into her mess of a room. It was truly a testament to how stressed out Sy was that this room was a disaster. Sienna sighed. It looked like Trip had been in her room and this was all her doing. Ailynn had been completely distracted by Kenna’s appearance. Sy’s cat had run straight toward her, tail full in the air, and rubbed her cheeks against Ailynn’s ankles. “Hello my Angel...How are you?” “Mraaaow!” “Did she? Naughty Sienna.” She gave the cat a gentle scratch just behind the left ear, before putting her down to wander off. Lynn came up behind her and made a sound. Sy didnt turn, her eyes settling on the handmade crystal and glass choker necklace that Sy had bought for Lynn that was just sitting out on her bed atop it's black velvet bag. "Think you can help me with this?" Sy was near tears. This chaos was not her at all, and it ashamed Sy. Knowing Sienna, Ailynn didn’t need to be an Empath to know how distressed she was, for as long as she had known Sienna, she’d always been one for order, a place for everything. What she saw in front of her, where Ailynn a Counsellor, would say a lot about Sienna’s state of mind at the moment. Aimee moved to just behind her, and slipped her arms around the younger girl. One under the arm, the other over, and pulled her into a gentle embrace, and placed a tiny peck of a kiss on the back of her neck after moving her hair.“Of course. Where do you want to start?” "Shower, breakfast or this mess?" Sy asked in a very small voice. “Mess first, then shower and eat.” Ailynn answered, thinking things through logically. “We’ll straighten out the shared room too, and chuck Trips floordrobe into the laundry.” A single tear rolled down Sy's face. "Should we clean up his room too, just to annoy him?" She missed him so much. Since coming to the mars station she felt so disconnected from him. Ailynn shook her head, sometimes she could bang their heads together. She loved both the twins very dearly, but they did lock antlers from time to time. It was then that Sy noticed a message on her desk. She tripped the message and it began to play. It was a routine report from Flight Ops that everything was going well. Followed by another. Trip had apparently wanted them to check in every 4 hours to reassure her that he was still among the living. Sy whispered, “I wonder when he will be home…” “I forget precisely, late afternoon, early evening. I worry too. It was necessary that they went though.” Sy nodded, "It sounds like he gave that guy a message to send every couple of hours though. Better than nothing and if something had happened I would know?" Sy still seemed a little lost, looking for her best friend in that moment rather than her newish girlfriend. Ailynn pulled her into a hug, enjoying the contact once more, “He’ll be fine...he’s a survivor” “We’ll start with the bed, gives us a surface to work from, then sort your boxes into the cupboards, plenty of storage thankfully. Then you can find all your cushions and…” she waved her hand around in the vague direction of the room as a whole. “...Pretty...things.” Sy looked at Lynn critically. "I do love the pretty things." She admitted, picking up her dresses off the bed to hang them up, smoothing out the wrinkles. She had only bought the four with her, the newest three and her favorite. If anything required more formal gowns, she could always buy them. "I wonder if Mum sent a crate of Trip's things too?" She asked, curious as she put the rest of her clothing away neatly, then straightened the covers on her double bed. "If you see anything you want, please take it." She smiled, reaching into the crate and taking out a purple elephant stuffie, "This was yours?" Sy asked with a grin. Ailynn smiled. "Mr Snuffles. What are you doing in there?" She took the elephant off Sienna and hugged it. She then looked around the room at the task ahead of them. Placing Mr Snuffles carefully by Sienna’s pillow, she began to work, humming gently to herself. "Mum misses us I think. I would love to go back to earth next time we have 2 days off. Once the transporter relays are working. Taking over a day to get here from earth is rough." Ailynn lifted her smile from mr snuffles to Sienna. “That would be so lovely. I miss the cook-outs your old man used to do.” She laughed. “Do you remember the barbeque that your parents did, and my family did the drink for, all those top brass families got utterly wasted on wine that they thought was synthehol, but actually wasn’t” Sy giggled at the memory, "Mom made sure that there was sparkling lemonade for me so that I would be ok. Your Mum though, when she gets hammered, those stories. I could never tell how much was real and how much was the alcohol, but her stories were part of what made me want to be a Starfleet officer. I want to discover new worlds and aliens. I mean we have a basically undiscovered alien in our backyard. I want to know everything about her. She is eons old. Think of all the places she has been and the things that she has seen." Sy took a super deep breath, calming herself after talking so passionately. It was her Betazoid side that made her talk about her joys with such fervor. Ailynn laughed, "baby, she's only 55, and totally human. But I know what you mean." As she began to move things, Ailynn began to lose herself in the simple chore. Helping out a friend ~girlfriend?~ unpack and tidy up made her considerably happier than she'd have thought possible. Slowly but surely, they got the room straightened. Looking up at the room around her, she placed an arm around Sienna’s shoulders, content in the work that they had done that morning. Nudging toward the bathroom with her head she whispered into Sienna’s ear, and then blushed deeply. Sy kissed the corner of Lynn's mouth and nodded, loving the contact. "We should conserve water. I heard that the scrubbers were being fussy. It would be the responsible thing to do." Sienna tried so hard to keep a straight face while saying that, but the twinkling in her eyes and the slight grin ruined it. Ailynn snaked her arms around Sienna’s waist and held her tightly. "We probably should at that." Ailynn paused, her face falling to seriousness. "Sienna...before we go any further...with us...I need to say thank you. We both know how far I'd fallen, if you hadn't told your mum...there's no question that…" Sy grew serious, "I know. I didn't know exactly but I knew you were not in control and bad things, I… I thought about you like this back then too. And I was so scared. Both you and Trip were out of control in different ways. And it was my fault you took the first pills. I could not do the alcohol but those pills, those I could do but they never did much and, yeah. Mom always knew when one of hers was in trouble. " Sy lay her head against Lynns. Ailynn shook her head. "It wasn’t you. I'd been taking some things anyway. Been struggling with an extra unit I'd taken. Figured that the odd tablet to keep me awake was no problem." She tilted her head and kissed Sienna gently once more. "Let's just look forwards and not talk about it again." Lynn whispered once more suggestively into Sienna's ear, and nodded gently. Smiling shyly Ailynn held Sienna’s hands, and gently led them into the small bathroom, the door closing behind them. (Reply none) (Posted by Mel and Mark) (Martian Ground Facilities – ACMO’s Office – Medical Officer – Ensign JG Dural Methor DrPH – 0922) The senior doctor nodded. “I understand completely. In the same spirit, I will try and remain more formal, until such a time that our working relationship allows?” She replied pleasantly. “With that said if I tend toward informality, so if that’s a problem then I apologize in advance.” “It’s quite alright.” He said humbly. “So…Doctor.” She sighed gently, “We’re split up into three 8 hour shifts, details of which should be in your personal mail, You’ve been assigned to Bravo shift. Usual drill. You’ll have available for your research, but also, standard duties apply, Triage and trauma duties and sadly, that will also mean being put on the clinic rota.” “I quite expected that.” He said honestly. “I have no intention of not pulling my weight.” She listened to his reply, and continued. “Dr Methor…I understand that you’ve brought a rather unpleasant manifest with you? Do you have the sample list? I haven’t seen it yet.” “Must have been an oversight on my part… not giving you a list.” He tapped some instructions into his PADD and with a flourish pressed the last command. He pulled a red isolinear chip with a blue label that read “FOUO: For Official Use Only Starfleet Medical Command” “You’ll find a complete list of all twelve micro-organisms here with nature of illness, point of origin, known methods of transmission, carriers and vectors. She waved off the apology, “Don’t apologise, it’s more than likely in a message that’s not made it through the system yet.” She sighed deeply. “I don’t like these Doctor. I am not ashamed of admitting that the very existence of these organisms on this planet, in this base, petrifies me to my core. If you think less of me because of that, then frankly I don’t care. Now. That said. They’re here, and I understand and value your work. You have my complete backing, I do however want every system, drill, alarm, and notification checked, double checked and then checked again. There will be full security on the noted stations, random patrols, fully armed.” “The medical research labs are quite a distance away, though as you suggest, I will not begin the testing phase of my research until we run several containment drills and you and the Admiral are satisfied with response times and measures.” He agreed with her reasonable request. Contact me, and we can have a conversation as to how we can make things happen.” Dural beamed with pride, “Thank you Doctor Bracken, your opinion means much to this old Cardassian.” She smiled warmly, “Go and get some rest, you’re not on shift yet, and we all need to hit the ground running. Dismissed” Still smiling, Dural stood up, briefly assumed the position of attention and exited the office. As he approached the reception desk, he picked up the name placard he had some how missed before. “Chief Petty Officer Miller, then is it?” (Reply Yeoman Miller) “I am in need of someone to show me around base, would you be available tomorrow evening? We could start at this Red Sands place you mentioned?” He asked tentatively. Sekal drew away pretty quickly from Jaton, not that he was surprised. It seemed that he may well be returning to normal. "I am quite well thank you. How long...?" "I don't think it was even a minute, sir. Glad to see you're feeling more normal now. Gave me a bit of a fright." Sekal turned to Trei. "You were monitoring the meld?" (Reply: Trei) "What is your assessment of Luma's mental state?" (Reply: Trei) "Thank you Counselor." He returned his attention to Jaton. "That was quite.... fascinating. Luma is far older than expected and many of our theories about her have been proven incorrect." "Oh? In what way, sir?" He shook his head. "I am still processing much of it. I do not expect to have to do a full meld again now that our minds have been momentarily joined. A shallow link should be sufficient." He turned his head as she began speaking. =^= Luma knew the Saleke. He left Luma. But in your mind it shows that he did not want to do so? Luma would like to send greetings to the Saleke.=^= "I know my father well Luma and his reputation is unsullied. He would have left no one under his command were it within his power. Knowing some of the details from time spent on Mars I can extrapolate a great deal but i will leave the explanation to him. I speak to him on occasion and will insure that the next time I contact him you will have the opportunity." (Reply: Luma, Trei) (posted by Spencer) (USS Mystique - Computer Core - ENS jg Counselor Ariel Trei - 11.05) She was asked for a professional opinion on Luma's mental state during the mind-meld. She found the whole process fascinating. She did not feel anything unusual during the process. The emotions were intense for sure mostly coming from Luma. Sekal was well prepared for the meld so she didn't feel any distress. It was strange to feel the two as one something she was not used to dealing with. She responded. "I did not feel any distress from Luma. The process was very intense for sure but it went as smoothly as possible.." (Reply Any) (Posted by Edward) (Earth, Starfleet Academy, Vex’s Quarters - Eng/Ops, Ens(jg) Vex’ahlia Jordaan - 1130) ~Breathe in... Breathe out... Breathe in... Breathe out…~ Vex closed her eyes. ~Breathe in... Breathe out... Breathe in... Breathe out…~ She was sitting in the middle of the floor of the Quarters that were once hers. She’d been told to clear them out and have them ready for use by someone else coming up through the Academy. She’d still not been given a posting and it was causing her some mild anxiety. Would she end up doing as her father had asked and moving to Betazed? She couldn’t understand why they were taking so long placing her. She’d go anywhere. Do anything. ~Put me on a ship. Or a base. Just give me something to do} she thought as she tried to clear her mind. ~Breathe in... Breathe out... Breathe in... Breathe out…~ Whilst clearing through her belongings she had come across a photo of her mother. The one photo she had with them both together. In truth the only really happy memory she had of her mother. This had worsened the anxiety. She had nobody to talk to her, everyone she had studied with had graduated and been given postings. She had no real family to speak of. So she sat alone in a half empty room and focused on calming and controlling her mind. ~Like you were taught~ ~Breathe in... Breathe out... Breathe in... Breathe out…~ Her breathing fell calm and steady. She was in control. She had always excelled at keeping control, it was the one good thing that came from the oodles of money her parents had thrown at her private education. She’d learnt earlier than most Betazoids how to control her powers of telepathy and empathy, so much so, that she went about her normal life only utilising them rarely. Her tutors had called her gifted. She didn’t really understand why. From her studies she understood that Betazoids’ tended to learn of their abilities in adolescence either that or they were born with them. Those that were born with the abilities, tended to be gifted ones but also somewhat doomed. Doomed because it was harder for them to control what they heard and felt, doomed to bouts of mental hysteria as well as other mental problems. Those that received their gifts in adolescence were less abled, but were generally able to control the flow of information and even shut out those around them. Therefore by the facts, she was not gifted. She learnt of her abilities around the age of 11. Earlier than most. It was then that her parents threw her into private tutelage. For the most part she was able to control the flow of information, not hear when she wanted. The only time she’d lost control was on hearing of her mother's death, in her grief she began projecting the anger and grief she felt on those around her. She opened her eyes once more and looked at the photo. Her mother was holding one of the trophies Vex had won at one of the quaint fayers that were held in the small town that they resided in. She had designed and built a working remote control shuttle-craft, complete with a small laser which could heat up water, ~I wonder where that is now~ she thought to herself as she smiled. She got back off the ground, put the photo in the last bag and then headed for the door. An assignment would be coming soon, but until then she’d used some of the money her father had given her to buy a small apartment in the city. ~Time to move in.~ she thought to herself as she left the apartment behind. (Reply None) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (Mars Base - ACMO’s Office - aACMO Ens(jg) Ailynn Bracken and Ambassador Addison Maccaullay - 5 - 1525) Addison wasn’t in the best mood the dinner she had with Kaz hadn’t gone well at all. Then she had met with Jaton the next day that also went very badly. She wasn’t sure how much more could go wrong on her visit. Addison was very happy to have the opportunity to see Her friends and old captain daughter. It had been years since she had a chance to talk to Ailynn. She had the odd chance every so often to speak with Aimee, but even that seemed to be less now days. Addison walked into the medical unit it seemed quiet and even Addison knew that was never good in a medical unit. “Welcome to sickbay” someone said and Addison ignored them walking past them to Ailynn’s office she knew why she was there she didn’t need any help or want any for that matter. Addison pressed the chime on the door. And waited for her cue to enter. Ailynn sat back at her desk, having finished going over the days reports, and putting forward the next load of repair tickets. ~seems neverending.~ She thought. However, she knew that once they were done, maybe a year from now perhaps longer, they would have a fully functioning hospital to rival SFMHQ, then, she pondered, they could begin the real fun work. Innovating new tech, new procedures, reaching out beyond the base and it’s locale, and into the Federation. ~or whatever remains of it~ she considered sadly. Addison entered the room a big smile on her face “Ailynn you sweet girl, how have you been?” Addison said as she wrapped her in a hug. While she wasn’t Addison actual family Addison always felt a special connect with her. Aimee had been Addison’s favorite captain and ended being her closest friend. “AAAH!” Ailynn screamed enthusiastically, and jumped up from her chair, throwing her arms around Addison. “AUNTY ADDIE!” Overjoyed at the arrival of her mum’s old friend. She pulled away from the hug, catching her manners. “Forgive me…” she smiled impishly, “Welcome...Ambassador.” “No, no I’ve known you since you where in diapers you don't get to call me ambassador.” Addison said. “Come in, come in. Please.” she motioned to a chair. “Sit, please. How are you? Coffee?” She’d been in a good mood all day anyway, but Addison’s presence lifted it yet further. “Yes, please dear that would be great.” Addison said really happy to feel so welcome. The place had been so busy that she had been trying to stay out of the way. And Kaz wasn’t as welcoming of her as Ailynn was. “Tell me how are you liking your assignment?” Addison asked as Lynn fixed the coffee for them. Ailynn turned and smiled as she sorted out the drinks. “If you’d have asked me that even yesterday, I’d have told you I’m so out my depth that it isn’t funny.” She picked up the cups, walked over to the desk and passed one over, taking a sip out of her own. “You know me as well as any, and for a long time I shared things with you that I couldn’t with anyone else. For the longest time I tried to escape my family name, and reputation, at the Academy, it preceded me, I was judged by mum and Dale’s name before I even got there. Now though I feel that I don’t need to compete. I’m doing something that even they didn’t. I’m rebuilding an entire hospital.” Her eyes shone with the possibilities that she had running through her mind “What we’re building here...I’m so excited for.” “That is a nice drive you have there don’t lose sight of it even in the hard times and I can promise you there will be hard times.” Addison remembered when she was young and had the drive to fight for what she wanted. She smiled. “It’s an insane amount of work, and everyone here is busting their collective backsides, but the possibilities...” “Yet you’ve proven yourself to be very capable of handling it. I hear your the acting chief of medical.” Addison said her voice full of pride as if Ailynn was her own child. “Just remember never forget to have a life, never forget to love.” Addison thought back on her life with Jaton in the Paladin. “Is there a special someone in your life?” Addison asked. Ailynn paused, her relationship with Sienna was very new, and whereas she wasn’t ashamed with it, she wasn’t ready to be talking to everyone left, right and centre, not when she was still getting used to the idea of someone being in her life in that regard. Especially given what Sienna had told her last night. “There’s someone pretty new, still getting used to it. Mum’s stayed single too, despite me saying that she needs to find someone to spend even a bit of time with.” Ailynn knew that she needed to be careful, and so deflected this part of the conversation. “How is your mother I’ve not spoken to her in some time now I really miss her.” Addison said keeping the conversation going. Ailynn’s expression fell, her hand covered her mouth, “She’s exhausted. You remember what she was like for working, now, with all the responsibilities she has...on top of…” She felt a tear well up, she lifted her sleeve up quickly to wipe it away, hoping that Addison wouldn’t notice, however she knew it was a useless gesture; Addison had known her since birth. “Your mother is a strong capable woman no need to worry about her. She’s also hard headed make me wonder how much Ailynn sighed deeply, and looked into the eyes of one of her mums oldest friends. “Off the record?” She didn’t want to have to step around Politics, but she knew that it was necessary. “I can understand that when I returned to trill I feel into this awful job” Addison wish she would of never given up her place in starfleet it was one of the many mistakes she had made over the years. “The Incident nearly killed her. Not the Incident itself, but it’s aftermath. She was losing herself anyway. When you and mum started in the fleet...and then, it began to fall apart? Even as a kid I could see what it was doing to her. She was...is devoted to the Federation, and the Fleet, but the aftermath of the Incident, all the loss of life...I don’t know how she stayed the woman she still is. She misses you so much, Addi; she always says that she didn’t exactly like being a ships Captain, but she adored being on the Hades.” “The Hades was a special ship, not really the ship itself but the crew. Everyone being so far from home you all just become a family. You learn to rely on each other. You form unbreakable bonds. That's what our crew had you will see once those bonds start forming here.” Addison missed the Hades so much she missed her friends. Something about Addison’s demeanour nudged Ailynn’s brain, she normally wasn’t very good at these kind of cues. “Addi? Are...you okay?” “Time is our biggest enemy. Don’t waste it with small argument, and don’t let love slip by.” Those words made tear form in Addison eyes “I saw Jaton yesterday. Just made me think about what if he didn’t die would Kaz and Arvos be the same. How would our lives have been different.” Addison loved her husband, but Jaton made her feel different he always had. "I can't even begin to imagine what you went through. Or rather, I see the loneliness in mum's eyes, even if she'd have dated again, she'd miss Dad just as much." (Reply iyw) “Oh listen to me you don’t want to hear an old lady ramble on about her life.” Addison said taking a sip of her coffee. “How is Kasian doing he’s been a bit distant?” Addison knew she could always count on Ailynn to look after Kaz for her. Ailynn sighed, "I'm afraid that he's barely talking to me at the moment. I knew about the issue with Jaton. But delayed telling him as I wanted to have all the information first. Sadly he ended up attending a medical incident with Jaton and it rather went south. He blames me. Rightfully so I feel." Addison sighed “No dear Kasian has this issue that he wants to protect people, but when someone tries to do that for him he takes it the wrong way. That's my fault i’m afraid he was always the one with the strong head and I had to count on him to look after his brother.” Addison hated that she made Kaz grow up so fast she wanted nothing more than for her kids to have a normal life. “ I’m working on him, although giving him his space until he comes round; but you have my word Auntie, that I would sooner die than he gets more distressed. Addison smiled she was happy to know that the bond of friendship between the two had lasted all these years. “That’s a major burden dear.” “The burden is mine to bear Addi.” She laughed gently, “I had problems, serious problems, but me now? Do you think that Aimee Bracken would allow her daughter to let her friends down?” She held Addison’s hand, “let her family down?” The insinuation was clear, Aimee had always had very deep, unshakeable feelings about friends and family. It had come from her Command days on the Hades. Her devotion to the people that she’d managed to keep touch with was absolutely unshakeable. Addison gave a smile and squeezed Ailynn hand this conversation made her feel a lot better about Kaz being so far away. “Thank you so very much for looking after him.” Ailynn lifted her shoulders slightly, “Brother from another mother, right? When he’s ready to open up, I’ll be here. I’m not going anywhere, I’m having too much fun here. You...concentrate on Ambassador-y things. I got this. Anything that you’ve got floating around off list of course…” She winked impishly at Addison, she’d never had an aunt, her family had always been pretty linear, but now she understood the very very special bond that can exist between neice and aunt. “Very well then” Addison said standing up “I should let you get back to work and I should do the same as I have a lot of things to do before our journey home. Addison hugged Ailynn before turning to leave the office and get back to her planning. (reply none) (Posted by Mark and Rich) (Mars Facility – Medical - Ensign JG Quinna Solice/ Ire Williams -1958) The nurse at the station had pointed him in the direction of a small office. He needed to get his flight status back and also get the drones sorted. They were a resource that he could put to good use. He understood Trips scepticism but was irritated by his lack of trust. Ire was not like Ire was going to put himself in harm's way without totally understanding what he was going to let himself in for. But he needed to be checked out by medical any way for explosive decompression, the God of War so why not just add the checking of the neural pathways ability to link with the drones with causing a feed back or frying his brain. He paused at Solice’s door to the office he had been sent to and knocked. He paused and then entered to see Solice. “Good evening Dr Solice. Sorry to bother you. I have been asked to see you as I was one of the people involved in the God of War and I need a medical to clear me to fly.” Quinna looked up at the man at the door. “No bother, Ensign.” She was finishing up her reports from earlier that day. She was going to have the evening off. “Why not hop up on a bio bed and see what I can do.” “Thank you.” Ire nodded and got onto the bio bed and lay down. “Want to tell me how you are feeling.” Doctor Quinna asked but Counselor Quinna was curious as well. Ire paused for a moment. “Well to tell you the truth I am pretty exhausted and I have been running of fumes ever since we returned it's been a crazy few day. It was part of the fighter squadron that went out to attach the raiders and we got boarded my flight officer took them out while I was trying not to get our fighter turned into dust but they planted what we think was a transport jammer with their explosive device which meant that we had to do an explosive decompression even though we were in pressure suits it still means a medical.” “OK…” Quinna started. He gave a slight shrug. “And then there was the God of War. I was lucky but some of the others were not like Alex and Ravok. I have been told that they might be moving Alex to earth for more treatment. Me and Trip have been keeping an eye on everyone and they are as stable for the moment as they are going to be. So I came for my checkup so that I can get cleared to fly.” “Well, lets’s…,” Quinna tried to reply as she pulled out a tricorder and started scanning. He indicated to him PADD. “And then there is this. I have come in possession of six unmanned multimode tactical support craft which I can control through my microdata port...” He touched the port under his hairline “... I would like if you check the data and see if there is no long term medical issues that might occur from long term use.” “OK” Became Quinna’s standard answer. He realised that he was jabbering and smiled tiredly “Sorry I didn't mean to off load like that. I have been dealing with the post mission slump as well as everything else.” Taking a deep breath, Quinna waited a second before she replied. “You know it is good to let things out.” Quinna smiled. It did not bother her. “How does the area around your port feel?” Ire’s hand rubbed against the port. “Now that you mention it feels a bit itchy but I just assumed that it was tiredness as a lot of me feels itchy due to over tiredness” “I am noticing a bit of skin irritation. I can get you allergenic for that.” Quinna provided. Ire smiled. “Thank you, that would be great.” Quinna then wanted to focus on the fatigue. “Have you had a chance to get a good solid 8 hours of sleep.” Quinna was well aware how sleep was hard to come by. She spent a few days without sleep. Ire gave her a grin. “Not a chance. I have been catnapping as much as I can. I think I have a solid four hours before the mission and a few hours on the way there and back. I also have a squadron to run as we have the 0600 to 1200 flight rotation which stuff up my sleep pattern as well.” “Just like any doctor, I do prescribe sleep.” Quinna turned with the Salve for the irritated skin. “You above anyone needs sleep. With the interface, I would think that requires more energy then what you have to give at this point. I can prescribe you a natural supplement for a more restful sleep.” He smiled at Solice. “Sleep is not something I will likely to be getting any time soon.” “Like many things, quality of sleep is better than Quantity of sleep.” Quinna added. “That is true but it's just trying to fit it into my busy schedule. Also I have not eaten properly as well.” “Um what type of natural supplements were you thinking off?” Quinna gave a small smile. “It is Melatonin. It is a natural hormone that regulates your sleep. Take them about 30 minutes before you go to sleep.” “How long would I need to take them for?” “Lets just try tonight. I do not like giving out medication all willy nilly.” Quinna then added, “Even if it is natural supplement.” Ire shrugged and nodded. “No problem you are the Doctor.” Quinna had turned her back for a moment to grab a PADD to update the report, suddenly she turned, “Oh and there is just one more thing.” With a momentary pause, Quinna stepped closer to the bio bed, “Get something to eat. Something light. No heavy meals. What you eat does effect your sleep.” His stomach gently rumbled softly as food was mentioned. “I will, now that you mentioned it I am hungry.” He gave her a quick smile and nodded to the PADD that he had given her. “What does the data comparison look like. Does it look like there will be any complications for its compatibility with my data port and the drone controls for long term use?” ‘Oh yeah,’ Quinna thought as she took a look at the PADD. She moved to the side. The thought was to sit next to him but caught herself before she actually attempted to do so. “Well, I do notice a one one-thousandths of a discrepancy of the numbers however the difference falls well within the standard deviation. I want to keep monitoring the numbers. First sign of problems, even the slightest sign of a headache, I want to check it out.” Quinna prescribed. Ire nodded. “I understand.” “This is still relatively new technology. No telling what can happen.” Quinna was very ‘matter of fact’ with her comment. Ire paused before he spoke, knowing that she was only doing her job and this what he had asked for. “The technology is over 30 years old but was not put into mass production. I understand the caution but the technology is sound, I just need to make sure that I handle the load of controlling multiple drones even with the safety system in place. Which I feel that I can do safely.” Quinn turned to put her equipment down. She had been opposed to integrating technology that is linked to the brain, but her opinion was not really needed. “It is still relatively new to me anyway.” Thought she wanted to say much more, she left it there. “I have baseline information on you, so we can keep monitoring. So…” Momentary undramatic pause, “..You are good to go.” Ire nodded keeping the relief from his face. ~Okay now I need to get science and engineering to sign it off~ “Thank you very much.” He stood up and headed for the door. “Oh and one more thing.” she waited to until he looked back at her, “Get something to eat, and get sleep.” He smiled at her. “Yes Doctor right away.” He paused as he reached the door. “I know that we all have been working like crazy since we arrived. Make sure you are also looking after yourself.” “I will. Goodnight, Mr. Williams.” (Reply None) (Posted by Kris and Robbie) (Mars Facility – Red Sands Tavern - Ens(jg) Alaya Ravenstone & NPC Sec PO2 Jadon Arkstone - 20:30) Alaya walked into the Sands bar, looking around her curiously. There was a woman playing a guitar on the small stage, but she was looking for someone in particular, Jadon, who she had met the night before and she had found quite interesting. She had been informed that this was a good place to find people when they were off duty, and she grinned when she found him. Dressed this night in a red, off the shoulder dress that somehow did not clash with her teal hair, which she had pinned back from her face but left down with a matching set of red metallic clips. Jameis had suggested a visit to the Red Sands in an attempted to get his mind off the Counsellor he’d met during his night shift a few days ago. Jadon took a swig of his drink whilst his colleague continued nattering on about this and that, there was a lady he had taken an eye to and it was now apparent that was the reason he’d dragged Jadon to the bar. The place had began to fill up, the live music seemed to be a draw for most of the officers from the base. ~Another 5 minutes and if nothing interesting happens, I’ll make my excuses and leave~ he thought as he scanned around. It was then that he noticed her, the teal hair being the first thing he glimpsed out of the corner of his eye followed by the red dress. She seemed to be heading towards them. Jameis hadn’t noticed, his focus still on someone else. ~Don’t panic, be cool~ he thought to himself, but he instantly felt his face begin to burn up. She wore her comm badge on a silver rope chain. She did not know who he was sitting with, but smiled anyways, "Mr. Arkstone, would you mind if I joined you and your companion? I wanted to talk now that I had a chance to wash the dust from my boots, so to speak." Alaya glanced around for a moment, "Do you know how ordering works? I've never used such an old style replicator before." Jadon turned to look at her, “Ah! Yes.. hello.” he sputtered out. He pushed back his chair suddenly and stood up, the movement dragged Jameis attention back to the table and he looked over at the woman standing there, he stared for a moment before smiling and turning his attention back to the table. ~Go back to what you were doing before Jameis, goddamn~ Jadon thought as he searched for the right words, “Yes.” was all he managed for the time being, he pulled a chair out and offered it to her. ~She remembers me~ he suppressed a small smile. ~What do I call her?~ “Yes.. please feel free. It’s, ah, nice to see you again Ensign Ravenstone?” it sounded like a question, because of his nerves. At the mention of her last name, Jameis eyes widened and he leaned back in his chair. Alaya took the offered seat with a smile and was greatly pleased when Jadon sat down next to her, "If I were on duty, it would be Counselor, but I am not so it is simply Alaya. And might I call you Jadon? Since we are both off duty…" Alaya flirted, gently, the smile in her dark eyes. She was curious where this was going to go. She was several years older than most of the ensigns, closer to 30 than 20, and they seemed so young to her. She was surprised when her voice echoed the thought, "In the Academy you expect them to be this young, but on the first posting? There should be some variations in the ages, but there does not seem to be." Jadon nodded and the silence went on for a few seconds, he’d forgotten to talk, finally he managed to engage his brain by looking past Alaya. “Alaya, yes… I like that.” he paused and looked around the room, “You’re not the only one who’s made that observation.” He said a little more darkly than he had expected to, “The rumour is that the big wigs at HQ want this project to fail, what better way to do it than send a bunch of fresh faces with no experience to run the place.” Jadon said, he saw Jameis nod out of the corner of his eye. There had been quite a bit of discussion about it throughout the Security department, they had wagers on how long some of the senior officers would last. “Sorry, that wasn’t proper ‘off-shift’ talk.” He said with a bit of a grin appearing, his nerves were starting to settle down. He leaned forward and took a drink, and then remembered her first question. “Oh, what did you want to order?” he said earnestly. A grin, obviously they needed to talk, "Whatever you guys are having. Jadon, right? You have not introduced me to your friend?" Alaya smiled towards Jameis. "And could you show me how to work it? I have not had a chance for dinner yet." Her stomach chose that moment to growl, "Or lunch." As she colored slightly. "Sorry," Jadon said before turning his attention back to Jamies, "This is Jameis, he's a buddy from Security. He was actually on shift with me when you came through the other night." Jameis nodded and said, "Nice to finally meet you Alaya." Jadon's cheeks went a violent colour of red as his friend dropped him in it. "Well, I am sorry to have missed meeting you then. " Alaya ignored the teasing as she scooted closer to Jadon. "As for the food," he leaned forward and tapped his ID code into the console at the centre of the table. It brought up a menu in front of the counsellor. "You can sift through the menu and order items. Once ordered the bar staff will bring it over" he briefly gave an example of how to use it by ordering a variety of drinks. Alaya watched and nodded, then followed his example, ordering hot chocolate with whipped cream and then scrolling stopped at the bbq, "I developed a taste for southwest earth bbq at the academy …" she stopped at the brisket topped baked potato, "That looks pretty good. Can I get you guys anything? Maybe some snacks?" She waited a moment before punching for the order to go through. "So how long have you guys been here on Mars?" Jadon couldn’t help but inhale Alaya’s scent as she had scooted closer whilst ordering, to say it was intoxicating wouldn’t have described it perfectly. Too focused on the smell, Jameis replied first “Not long, longer than most of the senior officers. But the base was mostly deserted before this. I’ve been here for about two weeks.” and then he looked to Jadon, “About a week and a half for me.” he said, “Did you get your baggage?” He knew she had, he’d personally looked out for it and made sure it had gotten to her quarters. He hadn’t dared to take it himself though in fear of bumping into her and making himself look like a massive fool. Alaya grinned, “I did, thank you. I might need someone to come help me hang up the weapons. I grew up on Earth, with an Earth couple who adopted me, and the Betazoid weapons fascinated me. I really love them. Though I have heard we might be going out on a ship. If we do, would you guys be coming with us?” Jameis got up suddenly, “Excuse me if you don't mind, I think I’m in luck.” and then began moving to the table he’d been eyeing up all night. Jadon rolled his eyes a little, “Sorry- ignore him. What weapons are they?” He knew full well what they were, he’d seen them already when they’d been transported in, but he wanted to keep talking to her. "Betazed had a strong tribal warfare before they settled to peace. Some are reproductions, using all natural hand making techniques and two are old. Made of bone. And I have my Father's sword. I was found in a stasis pod from a destroyed betazoid defense force ship when I was a toddler. In the pod was Dad's sword and Mom's necklace. No relatives so I grew up on Earth." Alaya reached out and with cool hands brushed a stray strand of hair off his cheek. "I was taught my gifts by a rather famous mind healer, Ambassador Riven Mias and his Imzadi Dr. Michaella Kirien. Riven is a Priest of the Great Betazoid Goddess. It is rumored.." She laughed. "I must be boring you." "No, not at all!" He replied quickly, probably too quickly for his own good. "I'd be happy to come help put them up, it sounds like they need to be done properly. Can't let such precious items wither away… wait, going out on a ship?" Alaya laughed, not unkindly as he caught up, "Yeah that is the rumor. I do not want to take the artifacts on ship. From what I hear, our rooms are likely going to be shared. I hope if they are, I can pick my roomie." It was important for a telepath of Alaya's calibre to be comfortable with who she was around when she lowered her barriers. "I have no say on whether I'd be aboard or not, if you're going though I'd certainly pester the Ensigns in charge of Security to let me come along." Jadon said, the most confident he'd been since the start of the conversation. "Oh. Hmm. I wonder which of them would make those sort of decisions? " Alaya made it a statement with a grin. She was so happy and felt so comfortable being around Jadon. "Can I ask you something?" Jadon grinned back, he was already planning who would be the best Ensign on the department to try and manipulate into letting him join the mission on the ship. “Of course, fire away.” "I was wondering what you felt when you first saw me?" She bit her bottom lip, now nervous about asking him. She did not trust what she was sensing. He looked straight to his feet and then looked back up, his face burning, he was sure she would be able to see his face going crimson, but he dared not to bring his hand up and feel his cheek. This was completely out of Jadon’s comfort zone, he had never been this forward with a woman before in his life and if he was reading the signs correctly, it seemed to be going OK. “Honestly?” he said, as he tried to search for the right words, “My first and overriding thought was ‘Oh wow.’” he gulped and he could feel a rush of blood go straight to his head. “I can’t be sure… describing an indescribable feeling is... difficult.” he risked a peek at Alaya’s eyes, he wanted to know whether he’d offended her or said something wrong. Alaya watched him carefully and then blossomed into a bright smile. "Yes. A lot of people, both guys and girls, are pretty attracted to me. But I do not feel attracted back. But when our eyes met?" She smiled. "But, I knew..know.. that is common for Betazoids. So, uhm. Would you want to maybe date?" She was as nervous as he was. “Well now I 100% need to be on that ship!” Jadon said smiling, “Absolutely!” he moved a little closer around the table, ~incredible~ he thought to himself, ~can’t believe this~ “I can’t describe… it’s strange how you can meet someone and feel like you’ve known them for a long time? It’s how I feel right now.” Alaya laughed, "Yes. So tell me all about you. I have about thirty minutes before I need to go and get changed. I drew night shift. Or we could walk back to my quarters, talk on the way and you can hang up my weapons while I change in the bathroom? Up to you." She was so happy. Jadoj picked his drink up, looked to see how much was left and then downed it. "Lead on my lady." he said cheerfully. He half looked towards where Jameis was, noticed that he was now busy chatting away and let Alaya lead him out of the tavern. "What is it you want to know? I'm terrible at talking about myself." he said, the irony not lost on him that a Counsellor was asking him about his life. "Well… why did you join I guess might be the first question. I joined because I wanted to meet new species and maybe help patch the Federation back together. I wanted to find and study other cultures, maybe learn enough to one day become an ambassador. " the corridors were tight as they walked, Alaya picking up the hem of her skirt as they walked. Jadon gave it a moment of thought, her answer had been eloquent and lovely, though he’d thought that about everything she’d said so far. “My answer is a little less romantic unfortunately..” and he paused for a second as he waited for the turbolift door to open. “I had very little going on for me at home and I wanted to see if I could do something with my life. Starfleet seemed like the right choice as I’d get to go far away and just see and experience new ways of living.” he waited for her to give the turbolift instructions on how to get to her quarters, he knew where they were, he had told her on their first meeting, but it seemed out of place to make it obvious that he had remembered. “What made you want to become a Counsellor?” She grinned, “See the above answer. The Counselor is always on the front lines when you meet those new races. Seemed the ideal career choice on the path to becoming an ambassador. Though I did serve for a year at starfleet command. There were a lot of people who needed counseling after the incident. It was awful for everyone close to HQ.” She shuddered delicately, the pain reflected in her eyes. “I grew up fast. I think everyone did because of it.” The conversation had taken a darker turn than he’d expected, “I’m sorry you had to go through that, it must be hard dealing with everyone else pain… I can’t even begin to imagine. I lost some colleagues in that senseless attack, but I wasn’t there… anyway.” He looked around and knew them to be nearing her quarters. When they finally reached her quarters, she opened the door. It was a small space, having room only for her bed and a small dresser. Her luggage had not been unpacked yet and her in room replicator was dead. Everything was still basic issue. Sufficient but not comfortable or personable. Jadon looked around as they entered the living space, “You’re lucky, a solo apartment. I share with Jameis and that can be difficult at times, he’s very… active.” She looked at him, then caught the meaning. “Oh. And are you?” She gave him an arch look before turning to pull one of the dark maroon pantsuit uniforms out of her drawer and the soft leather heeled boots she tended to wear with the pantsuit outfits. “Do you know how to hang the weapons on the walls?” She asked before turning, “And could you unzip the dress please?” “Point me to where you want them… and no, I’m not” He said whilst unzipping the dress, he tried to be as careful as possible, keen not to overstep a boundary by accident. She took herself into her bathroom to change. For a woman, she was relatively fast, under 3 minutes to change into her uniform and change her look to be as "professional " as she got. She walked out to sit on her bed and put the low heeled boots on. "I would like the spear over the bed. That is the most… delicate … one. Be careful of the tip though, I have cleaned and neutralized it, but it might still hold the neurotoxin. Admittedly it is s very, very remote chance, but I like you so.." She smiled, opening her small crate. "The daggers can go over the desk terminal, I used to keep them crossed there. And I guess the glaive over the door? That is a reproduction so it is perfectly safe. My sword… I usually just keep it loose and by the bed. But it should go on the wall too. Do you have a suggestion?" She kept an eye on the chrono so she would not be late. It did not make sense to be late on your second day at work. “How about the sword on the other wall over here?” He said as he moved towards it, it was fairly blank and would be relatively easy to do. “The spear and the daggers are relatively easy to do, they’ve been up on the walls before. How about I do those now and then I come back to do the sword? I wouldn’t want to make you late for your shift..” Alaya nodded, "I can give you access?" She smiled and did exactly that, "When are you on shift?" “1am, looking after incoming personnel again. It’ll be a slow one I think, it’ll give me time to write my request to join any on-ship compliment though.” he said smiling. They spent the next 20 minutes hanging weapons on the various different walls before Alaya had to leave for her shift, Jadon escorted her, not wanting to leave her side until the last possible moment. As they neared the medical annex, Alaya smiled at Jadon, that 1000 watt, genuine smile that lit up her face. "Thank you for the escort, my fair Knight." She swept into a deep curtsey, not at all hampered by the fact she was in a pantsuit. "I hope I can see you again, soon." She did not offer to kiss, and had barely touched him the entire night. But it was a wonderful night and she looked forward to many more. He nodded, "Soon." as he watched her disappear into the annex. He stood there for another moment before turning around and darting down the hallway towards his Quarters. ~Well that evening turned out much better than I'd expected when Jameis dragged me out~ he was beaming as he walked through the corridors.
