"I am Sekal. Thank you for answering my call. We will be getting underway very shortly and I will be piloting. Please stow your gear aboard while I run the preflight Inspection. Ensign Verin should be along momentarily." Carson nodded in response and moved towards the runabout beside his fellow security officer. He was relatively happy to find that the runabout was comparatively well stocked and in a decent shape of repair, when compared with the base itself. He made himself comfortable, in a seat nearer to the pilot’s cabin that the rear of the ship and stayed silent whilst Rebecca also situated herself. He was in no rush to start up a conversation this early in the morning and it seemed that she was just as comfortable with the silence as he was. He patiently watched as Sekal moved around the runabout preparing it for launch and just as he was ready to do so another science officer came into view, clearing running later than she’d have liked to be as she was moving towards them at a good pace. She quickly stored her gear aboard and when the runabout began to take off she turned to the two security officers and with a light frown offered, “I can't wait till we have the transporters up and running. I'm assuming you are security, although I'm not entirely sure WHY we have to have security with us? Can you guys fill me in?" I'm Sienna Williams-Verin, life sciences and botany. I'm Trip Williams' twin, if you have met him, he tends to be the more personable of the two of us." Carson had a slight smile on his face as he watched the words just tumble out of her. Before he could respond, Flagg flashed a massive smile across her face and responded, “Well we hear to prove some entertainment. I am Rebecca Flagg, Security but I am ex-marine, combat engineer and EOD specialist. So I should be some help.” ~Perhaps she knows twin? ~ Carson thought to himself, unable to figure out what had gotten Flagg so smiley. He didn’t give it much thought and instead introduced himself to Sienna. “..and I’m Carson Peters. I’m not sure what entertainment I can provide” he said glancing and flashing Flagg a quick smirk, “I’m not much of a dancer or singer.” Carson shrugged. “I agree, getting around the base quickly will be much better once the transporters are active. Though…” and he paused for a second internally debating whether to continue with the sentence, “… I do believe the runabout has a working transporter. If you’d asked, we could have used them to get you here.” He said the last part of the sentence with a hint of joyfulness, so to portray he that he was not being rude. “Either way, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance Sienna. I’m here so I can get a good look around more of the shipyards, the ships, see if there is anything useful out there and of course to keep you safe by order of the Admiral.” (Reply Verin-Williams, Flagg, Sanok IYW) As the runabout got closer to its initial destination, Sienna called out and asked Sekal to move slowly around the dock so they could get a closer look at the ships. He did so, but also gave a warning that he could sense an entity and a powerful one at that coming from the Mystique. “Looks like I will be earning my dinner tonight. When we go in follow my lead, it probably nothing but I will be happier to know you’re all on my six.” Rebecca said from behind Carson. He turned away from the window to look at her. She had another massive smile on her face. ~It is either a front, or she is genuinely looking forward to facing off with an ancient entity~ He tapped his comm. badge as Flagg began running through the marine rules of combat. “Ensign Peters to Security, I’m currently en-route to the Mystique in the dock yards. Ensign Sekal has detected a yet unknown entity within the ship. Dispatch back-up officers and put the ship into containment protocol. Nothing in or out. Coordinate with Defence Perimeter” (Reply any in Security/Flight Ops) Carson returned his attention just as Flagg was reminding them to remember their training and to stay sharp, he nodded in response as Sanok put the runabout down and began preparing the runabout for the departure of its crew. (USS Mystique - Science Officer- Ensign Sekal - 0717) It had taken Sekal only a moment to set the systems of the Runabout to standby mode, ready to be reiniated in an instant if needed. He had then left the pilot cabin and followed Verin and the security officers into the Akira class heavy escort. His warning had turned out to be apropos as the other member of the science team fell to her knees. "Please stop." Sekal himself at that moment was at the rear of the group with his hands over his face at the bombardment of rage, pain and noise that was assaulting his mind. He gritted his teeth at the agony which after a moment was cut off as quickly as it had begun. "Help. Please, I need a ..." He then heard Verin begin to scream as he too fell to his knees at the renewed and redoubled attack. (Reply: Flagg, Peters) His face in his hands moisture began leaking from the corners of his eyes though he didn't cry out or vocalize in any way through tightly clenched teeth. Outwardly he was in no better shape than his compatriot though inwardly it was another matter as he was fighting the bombardment back little by little by erecting his mental shielding. It was an interminable moment frought with pain before he threw his head back and gasped then took a deep gulp of air. The pain though agonizing had been greatly reduced. (Reply: Flagg, Peters) His eyes opened to little more than slits due to the depth of concentration he was using. Verin's screams had abated in volume but were still present. "I ... can...manage....this." He drew in another breath. "She needs a ...Psilosynine inhibitor. There will be a... medical kit on the ....runabout." (Reply: Flagg, Peters) (Posted by Charles Gatling) (USS Mystique - Docking Platform - SECTAC Ensign(jg) Carson Peters - 0718) Flagg had taken point on departing the shuttle and leading the team onto the Mystique. Nothing had happened as they had docked with the larger ship, everything seemed powered down and life support was active. Carson had shouldered his rifle and had it at the ready in case it was needed and followed behind Verin-Williams, who in turn was right behind Flagg. Just when they’d walked a few meters into the platform and Carson was wondering whether he’d overreacted by calling in for a containment protocol, Verin-Williams quietly asked them to stop. Her hands went up to her ears as if she had heard something loud, Carson looked around, briefly taking everything in around him and could not see the source of any sound, nor could he hear it. He put his hand on her shoulder, just as she fell to her knees and began screaming. He knelt beside her, unsure on what he could do to help. He placed the rifle over his shoulder and went to move to pick her up in an attempted to get her back in the shuttle and away from whatever was assaulting her mind. It was then when he noticed that Sekal was also on his knees and clearly dealing with a similar assault, just without vocalising his distress. "I ... can...manage.... this." Sekal drew in another breath. "She needs a ...Psilosynine inhibitor. There will be a... medical kit on the .... runabout." Carson looked around to Flagg, he didn’t want her to move from the defensive position she’d taken up at the head of the group. He quickly decided to stand back up and head back into the runabout for the medkit. After rummaged through the kit quickly to find the required inhibitors and then dashed back to his distressed colleagues. He rushed back past Sekal and knelt back down in front of Sienna, he looked her in the eyes to comfort her and at the very least show that he wasn’t a threat. Whilst doing that he injected her with the inhibitor and waited for it to take effect. He looked from her to Sekal and asked, “Do you need this?” (Reply Sekal) As the chamber quietened down, Carson said “Are you OK?” he looked from Sienna to Sekal as he stood back up and offered his hand as an assistance to help Verin-Williams back to her feet. “What was that?” he added, whilst looking around the docking platform. (Reply Verin-Williams, Sekal, Flagg) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (USS Mystique - Deck 7 - Science Officer- Ensign Sekal- 0720) The security officer named Peters had gone to pick up the drug that Ensign Verin needed while the ex-marine held her forward position in order to meet any physical threats from within the ship. By the time the man had returned Sekal was gaining better control over his pain level and while feeling able to keep it manageable he held no illusions of it dissipating entirely.. “Do you need this?” The security officer was offering him a shot of the drug he had just injected into Verin. Sekal shook his head and spoke in a stronger voice. "It will not work on Vulcans due to differences in our physiology from Betazoids." And this was true, it might even have some negative side effects. Sekal had to use his hands to leverage himself to his feet and he was initially shaky but grew stronger rapidly. If he chose he could induce a trance that would almost entirely block out the pain but there wasn't time for it here and while extensive it was no longer debilitating. Seeing that Sekal was mobile Carson returned his attention to Verin “Are you OK?” Then helped her up. Once they were all back on their feet he asked. "What was that?” While looking around for a physical threat. "That..." said Sekal "...was a psionic attack of extensive magnitude and strength." He gave a twitch of his head and a blink of his eyes at another painful flare which he willed away. "The drug you gave her has suppressed her telepathic abilities so that the entity can no longer affect her and so she is shielded from the pain." (Reply: Verin, Peters, Flagg) "The pain is extensive but Vulcans are better equipped to deal with such attacks and I am exerting control over it. While some does get through my defenses I am well able to function." While speaking he had returned to the at rest position with hands cupped at the small of his back. (Reply: Verin, Peters, Flagg) He moved to pick up his tricorder and began taking readings as the others turned and moved off. With another twitch he followed. (Reply: Verin, Peters, Flagg) {Posted by Charles Gatling) (Mars Facility – Admiral’s Office - CO Admiral Remae Ktell – 1050) “Come.”, said the Admiral when the alarm on his door sounded; it looked like he wasn’t getting out of his office anytime soon… but, he didn’t mind, this was the job. “Ah, Ensign Alyl, come in and take a seat.”, he said, switching into Counsellor Mode. Remae stood up and came to the other side of the desk and sat down on his couch… he managed to find a few items around the base while he had been exploring but it was better than nothing. “How are you feeling?”, he asked the Trill. The question would have been laughable, given the nature of the Ensign’s recent trauma but, it was imperative that the Science Officer attempt to resume a normal life, as much as that was possible. He added quickly, “I came by earlier this morning but we didn’t get a chance to speak, so thank you for coming by.” (Reply from Alyl, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Mars Facility – Admiral’s Office - Jaton Alyl – 1051) “Come.”, said the Admiral when the alarm on his door sounded; it looked like he wasn’t getting out of his office anytime soon… but, he didn’t mind, this was the job. “Ah, Ensign Alyl, come in and take a seat.”, he said, switching into Counsellor Mode. Remae stood up and came to the other side of the desk and sat down on his couch. "How are you feeling? I came by earlier this morning but we didn’t get a chance to speak, so thank you for coming by.” Jaton sat on the couch opposite the admiral. "Well-- wait, ensign? I'm confused. Before this... incident I held the rank of lieutenant. And I'm not even sure if that commission still stands. After all, up until yesterday, I was dead." (reply Remae, room for more) "As to how I'm feeling, well... that's a bit complicated. I woke up to find that 25 years had passed before my eyes, and I'm now in a world that I frankly don't recognise. The Federation is collapsing. My homeworld has seceded. I find out that I not only have a son, but he greets me by breaking my nose. How should I feel?" (reply Remae, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Hades – Bridge – SECTAC, Ens(jg) Carson Peters – 1111) Sekal had been leading them through the Hades turbolifts, it was tough work as they were all wearing EVA suits as the ship had no life in it what-so-ever. Instead of heading to the Science area, Sekal headed in the opposite direction. The rest of them followed without question. Carson assumed they were heading in that direction to see if they could get any of the ship powered up. Sekal moved into the Bridge first and as Carson made it in, he had already began moving towards the centre of the Bridge, with no concern for all of the broken components and rubble on the floor. "Lieutenant Maraht report please." He called out. Carson looked at him confused, but Sekal seemed to be ignorant of his presence. “I’m sorry, Ensign. What?” he got no direct reply, he looked towards Flagg and pointed to the other side of Sekal of the one he was moving towards. "Mr. Keswick any news on running down the saboteur?" Sekal said as he turned towards a different ship station to the one, he was looking at before. Carson looked back towards Sienna and noticed that she was recording what was happening on her tri-corder. Now Carson was closer he could see that Sekal was clearly not seeing what they were, he was looking straight through Carson as if he weren’t there. "Inform me immediately when you know something. I will be in my ready room." Sekal said, before he spun around quickly and began marching at pace towards the open door which lead to the ready room. Seeing and hearing where he was heading, Carson jumped ahead of him to clear anything on the floor from in front of the Ensign to make sure he wouldn’t trip on anything and injure himself. Carson had decided to let this play out before requesting medical personnel presence as it didn’t seem like Ensign Verin-Williams seemed to be concerned with what was happening. NRPG: I envision Carson frantically kicking things out of Sekal’s path in a comic looking attempt at making sure there is nothing that could impede his path. RPG: Once inside the ready room Carson had to give up trying to assume Sekals path and settle for keeping a close eye for anything dangerous around him. Suddenly everything changed, Sekal went to press something and then collapsed on a heap on the floor. Alarmed, Carson dived in an attempt to catch him, but the EVA suit caused him to be too slow and resigned to kneeling down beside the Ensign and checking over his suit to make sure there were no immediate issues with loss of pressure or air. Sekal shouted that he was fine and tried to move himself out of his and Flagg’s grip and then shouted through the comm, "Security to the shuttlebay now. It's a diversion! He will be trying to make his escape!" NRPG: I didn’t think it was a stretch to assume that if Saleke would have tapped his comm. badge to give this command, that Salek would have also made the same movement and therefore opened up a channel to Security in our time RPG: Carson looked alarmed, it seemed that whatever was happening in Saleks mind was spilling out into reality. He tapped his own comm. badge, “Security, belay that last order.” He offered no other explanation to whoever was manning the closest security sub-station, he would update them once he knew what was happening. (Reply Flagg IYW) About the same time, they managed to get Sekal back to his feet, was when Carson followed his gaze and noticed a crystal in the Ensigns fallen kit glowing. Before he could ask what, it was or what it was doing Sekal began talking again, “My apologies, I appeared to be elsewhere and in another time. I am quite myself now." Sienna had begun running the tri-corder over Sekal in way, which Carson assumed, meant she was checking him over medically, so he released Sekal and stepped away. “Fascinating” Sekal exclaimed, as he moved to recover his toolkit and the crystal. He clearly knew what it was. "It is currently radiating a harmless energy form." As he studied it intently. "The more we learn of the crystal the more mysteries we encounter and the deeper the enigma becomes." "Ensign Sekal," Sienna began speaking, "The security officers here know nothing about the crystal. You did not want it to be general knowledge, remember?" She then turned towards Carson & Rebecca before continuing, "The crystal was a gift from the Ensign's father, who apparently commanded this ship and had the crystal here once. As a result, it appears that the crystal caused a phase displacement in time, where Sekal was in another time as well as this one." Sienna then turned her tri-corder around so Sekal could read what was on it, "You were in both times it seems. It would be very interesting if you could contact your Father and inquire about the incident you just experienced, see if he felt anything, ah unusual at the time. I know that Vulcans are telepathic with each other, but it requires touch, even among family members?" (Reply Sekal, Flagg) Carson had taken a deep breath; he was no scientist, but he was able to follow the gist of what Sienna & Sekal were talking about. He shook his head, “Well it seems like today is just going to be one of those days.” He looked around his three colleagues as he spoke. “Is there anything else we should know about this crystal before continuing? Honestly, I would have preferred a heads up, that we were carrying such a mysterious and dangerous object around with us before it assailed one of us.” (Reply Sekal, Flagg, Verin-Williams) “Does the crystal have some sort of sentience? It seems like it’s guided you here to the bridge to view what you saw, when I thought we were heading to the Science labs?” Carson said, as he tried to grasp all the information on the crystal and decide on a threat assessment. (Reply Sekal, Verin-Williams, Flagg) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (USS Hades – Bridge – Science Officer, Ensign Sekal – 1115) Sekal lifted an eyebrow and turned his attention from the crystal in his hand at the rebuke from Verin. He listened with interest as she spoke pointedly to their security escort then turned back to him. Her comments were concise, pointed and logical which he found intriguing. Past her emotionally immature exterior it appeared she might have a wealth of potential. (Reply: Flagg) “Well it seems like today is just going to be one of those days.” The comment came from the one called Carson Peters and he turned his eyes to him. “Is there anything else we should know about this crystal before continuing? Honestly, I would have preferred a heads up, that we were carrying such a mysterious and dangerous object around with us before it assailed one of us.” Sekal could feel the weight of the mineral in his hand as he shook his head ever so slightly. "There has been no history of *danger* in reference to the crystal though some of its properties are largely unknown. I had no logical reason to assume that it might become hazardous to this mission therefore felt no need to apprise you on possibilities that might not exist." (Reply: Peters iyw) "The crystal and its kind is also the centerpiece of an extended and sensitive research of which it is not necessary that you be fully briefed at this time though that may certainly change in the future. The fact that it *was* here is fortuitous, everything I learn about its nature is essential to unlocking its secrets." (Reply Flagg, Verin-Williams) Peters to his credit refused to be lightly brushed aside. “Does the crystal have some sort of sentience? It seems like it’s guided you here to the bridge to view what you saw, when I thought we were heading to the Science labs?” "Your assessment is flawed." The Vulcan noted dispassionately. "The crystal has shown no signs of sentience despite extensive testing and it has been thoroughly proven that temporal anomalies exert strong influences over those that come into contact with them." (Reply Flagg, Verin, Peters) "Why me only? Logically I have been in near contact with it continuously which the rest have not therefore was pulled into the phase distortion alone." (Reply: Flagg, Verin, Peters) (Posted by Charles Gatling) (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Williams-Verin Family Quarters – Pilot - Ensign (JG) – Ire Williams - 11:20) "Boys, this is going to be a fun partnership. We have a crap ton of work to do. May I make a suggestion? We each take charge of our own squadrons and are responsible for getting them fully operational. Checking in with each other with updates. We'll get to R01 when we get our squadrons operational. And since it is based on the USS Republic why not call R01 the Patriots squadron." Ire nodded and smile at the name. “Okay that sounds good.” (Reply Ravok) "The other thing to address is that our department has no head. So we dont really have anyone calling the shots. So how about this idea. When dealing with our squadrons we call the shots. But for department decisions we make the calls via committee. Until the time which a department head shows up." “That makes sense. The last thing that we need is for one of us to do something unforeseen that might affect the others in some way.” (Reply Ravok) (Reply Ire, Ravok) (Posted by Robbie) (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Williams-Verin Family Quarters – pilot - Ensign (JG) –Ravok - 11:21) Ravok nodded his head in agreement "I like the name , very fitting for the Republics squadron. I am going to call a staff meeting with my squadron shortly and address them and assign chiefs within my squadron." Ravok stands up with his padd in hand and adjust the collar of his uniform "Gentlemen, if any of you need my assistance at any time I'm a combadge inquiry away around the clock. " He stops for a second and tilts his head to the side and points his finger ever so slightly at Ire and Tripp "I know we just met but is it ok if we are on a first name basis? Considering both of you Share the same surname? And we all share the same rank ? " (reply Ire, Tripp) (posted by davis) (Martian Ground Facilities – Main Computer Core – Engineer – PO3 Castile – 1201) "Ensign sir!" an experienced Petty Officer approached and handed over a PADD. She saw he was standing at attention. "At ease Petty Officer.” She said before taking a look at what was on the PADD. "Repair team 1308 has been working around the clock to get things done, if I had known my boys and I would have lent a hand with this. I am Petty Officer 3rd Castile, senior damage control specialist. Its nice to see they are sending folks here who aren't just security experts. That PADD once I get authorization from you contains important work orders that I need an officers approval to do, security subsystem repair work, retrofitting the armory and fabricate sensor suite packages for the shuttles. It just says Officer authorization required. You are the first engineering officer I have been made aware of since being here." He explained the contents of the PADD, it’s nice to have context. She saw the document that he was referring to, and also saw the slew of completed “tickets” indicated by the margin of his PADD screen. She looked up from the PADD and saw the man standing before her. Really looked at him. There was a tiredness in his eyes, a fatigue she had not seen since finals at the Academy. Many of her purely human classmates had stayed up studying multiple nights in a row to cram as much information as they could. “Mister Castile, I always appreciate the experience a Non-Commissioned Officer like yourself can bring to the table.” She started. “ It looks like you and your team were quite busy looking at your completed tickets. I grabbed the three teams I did because they were sitting around the crew’s mess, to use an ancient Terran Naval term, skylarking.” "Working around the clock as senior team, we set the example. As you can see there is tons of work that needs to be done. At first I thought I was going to be patching and jurry rigging everything." He said with a rath relaxed tone to his voice. “As for the work order….I will happily sign it.” She paused. “However, I have noticed that you seem quite….fatigued. How long have you gone with out sleep?” she inquired. "Sometimes double or tripples, you know how it is getting things done. Sometimes you don't have the luxury of resting not when there is so much to be done. But the repair teams are coming down off an eight hour rest peroid prior to a double, I did a tripple and logged out after that. So its just a matter of the coffee kicking in enough?" "He said almost on the sheepish side. “I see. The work is important but so are our crewmembers,” She said. “but I know how important accomplishment is. You and your team pick one of the three tasks you’ve shown me to complete now. Nothing that could be a hazard, so nothing that goes “boom”.” She signed the work orders as she spoke. “After that, get some shut-eye. Report to your bunks, I don’t want to hear or see you or your team until the start of the next eight hour shift.” "I assure you its not pride or hubris that motivates me, its getting the work done, making sense out of the chaos. What I just showed you is a list each team is having to do, I got teams doing cordinated repairs on everything from getting the science labs working to retrofitting replication systems and most of this can't be done without an officers prior authorization." He said. The fatigue was kicking in and the eight hours was clearly not enough. “Your dedication to duty is exemplary, however not sustainable.” She said handing the PADD back. ”If your team is working multiple shifts, then others probably are too. The fix is mandatory work-rest cycles and allowing crewmen to sign up for two shifts in a day, making the third a mandatory down time.” "Operations passed a note down to the repair teams when we got here, double shifts are mandatory, Tripple allowed followed by the mandatory eight hours down time. Everybody has been running on fumes. You said it earlier, sixty hour work weeks and little support. Thats been us. I haven't had an Engineering officer to report into since getting here. So its been following orders, trying to do things by the book but when there is no ranking engineer to sign off on repair orders.. Its frustrating." He said, he really hoped this Ensign wasn't a hard case. “Good work tracking me down.” She complimented him again, “Though work orders don’t necessarily require an Engineering Officer. For instance with these work orders for the Armory, you could have gotten a signature from a Security or Tactical Officer as the regulations don’t specify a department. If they want it done so bad, they can sign the authorization ticket.” "Every since the heavy stance Starfleet has taken, its not the Federation of old, All orders have to be countersigned by an Engineer and the master at arms, that way if the team decides to arruinarlo, there is a massive paper trail. But alright just be sure you note the instructions in the duty logs so that way I don't get yelled at. I am already getting asked how a medical replicator appeared in sickbay when I didn't have the authorization to load the patterns on it." He decided at this point the Ensign was alright, She was new. But alright. “Dismissed.” Castile looked at La Chance and Schummer, "You two heard the lady go get some down time. I think I am going to check back into the bunk. La Chance hold all my calls." Containing three flights or three fighters and one shuttle. Designated Havok one, two three, four respectively.” =^= Copy that Havoc One Alpha. What are your intentions? =^= “Martian Orbital Control. We have 6-hour patrol time planning to do orientation flight around the system as well as manoeuvres and training over.” =^= Copy that Havoc One Alpha enjoy=^= Ire grinned in himself as the fighter transitioned from the atmosphere of mars to the cold blackness of space. “Okay Havoc flights get ready to turn to the new heading. We are going to do a few orbits of mars and then go for a round around the system.” =^= Havoc Flight Two Copies=^= =^= Havoc Flight Three Copies=^= =^= Havoc Flight Four Copies=^= Ire watched the sensor closely as the squadron all turned into his new heading. He gave a small sigh of relief that they had made it to orbit without losing anyone. It had been a mental start when he had arrived at the hangers. All the squadron personal were making sure everything was ready. He had cheated by taking all the alert ready fighters who were ready to go which meant that there was not a lot to get ready. The Type 11 shuttle had not been given the up grades that Trip had talked about, but he was not surprised about that. They had all come to attention as he arrived, he had said a few words to his squadron personal it was not amazing by any means, but it got the message across. Senior Chief Petty Officer Tyrol who oversaw the squadrons support personal was a no-nonsense character who had told him that one of the fighters was not flyable and that they would have to get one out of storage. Ire had nodded and told Tyrol to swap his allocated fighter and he would take it. He saw a slight pause from Tyrol and he had handed Ire the PADD. Ire suddenly realised why this fighter had been put in storage and that this was a test on Tyrol’s part. His new fighter had the seriol number of 1302313 which meant that for superstitious pilots no one wanted to fly it but he had nodded to Tyrol and accepted his fighter. He had kept an eye on the fighter’s system, but nothing had happened up till now. He thought about the other aviators and flight officers who were flying with him most of them had been in his class and a couple he knew personally. He felt strange being put in charge of so many people so soon espeshaly when there were people he thought would be better suted for the job, but he had been selected for the position and he was not going to let any one down especially no the people flying with him. "Havoc One Alpha to all flghts we will do a fly past of Utopia Planecia we head out. Take a good look as we are going to be spanding alot of time around there in the future." (reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Sol System – Peregrine Fighter 13 – Pilot - Ensign (JG) – Ire Williams - 12:40) He had begun to put the squadron through their paces by doing some formation flying as a large group as well as in their respective flights and he was pleased with what they were doing. There had been a few rough moments as everyone had worked out where they were supposed to be but as they had done a lazy loop past Utopia Planica they were where they were supposed to be. Even his fighter was behaving itself which he was also happy with. He glanced again over the information that he was receiving from the 13’s sensors and nodded. ~Okay let’s see what we can do~ He though clicked the comm system. “Ensign Williams to Ensign Merek?” (Reply Merek) “Hi Keira. You mentioned this morning that you were going to test the perimeter sensors. He needed to take some of the frustration he felt out and while he preferred to be in an ice rink he didn’t think anyone would like him using a holodeck with the power issues. Kasian pulled on a clean black tracksuit and sat down at his desk. Pressing a few keys on the thermal in front of him he opened a secure channel. He needed answers and he knew one person that would be able to get him everything he needed. =/\= miss me already =/\= Arvos voice came in then his smirky little smile. Kasian wasn’t sure why this amused him so much truth was he did miss his brother this was only the 2nd time they had been apart since birth the first was when Kaz went off to medical school and left Arvos alone to finish his degrees in whatever sciences he did choose. “I’m sending you a file, and yes I know, but it can’t be he looks so young. I need you to check the information and finding that Ailynn has told me.” Kasian didn’t want to explain anymore then this he sure didn’t want to tell Arvos he let his temper get the better of him. =/\= Ailynn BRACKEN, shes with you. I knew I should of joined starfleet.=/\= Kasian laughed he wanted to tell him how much of a mistake this was for him to do and how he should of just took the job on Trill. Just as he was about to have something smart to say back to his brother a voice came in over comms. =/\=Bracken to Trei, Poldan and Solice. Can we all meet for lunch in Staff Room 2 adjacent to Triage entry. Be nice to touch base with everyone.=/\= Kasian rolled his eyes as he looked at his deck and the combadge. “Anyways Avos I need you to look into those things for me I would do it, but the computers here are so slow.” =/\= its trill business I will get the reports to you in a few days.=/\= Arvos said Kasian didn’t want to bring any of this up to his brother but he really needed more answers he needed to know more. He did trust what Ailynn said to a point but he hadn’t done any of the research. He knew he should trust her, but he just couldn’t right now she had kept so much from him even if it was for his own protection’. =/\= KASIAN=/\= his brother yelled over the comms “yeah, what” Kasian replied =/\= Lynn has she asked about me.=/\= Kasian couldn’t help but laugh he had forgotten that Arvos had a major thing for her when they were younger. He thought that was a thing of the past now that maybe he had grown out of it but from the sound of the question and his ton he could tell it wasn’t. “Of course, not you idiot she been to busy making my life a living hell to worry about you.” Kasian said Seeing the look of disappointment on his brothers face made him regret saying it like that. “Look, I’ve not had much time myself to even talk to her. Its not like we are still those same kids, or friends even its different now. Just move on.” Kasian hated how easily Arvos let his feeling show it was one of the major differences between them. “I’m late I have to go or I will never hear the end of it.” (Mars – Mars hangar- meeting room – Pilot - Ensign (JG) – Ravok - 1300) Ravok is in the Hangar meeting room with all the staff of his squadron gathered. Most of them standing. Ravok stands in front of them with his PADD in hand. " Good afternoon , as you are all aware I am Ensign jg Ravok Shara. I am The commander of M03 currently assigned to Delta shift. At 1800 we will be going into our first full rotation and as many of you know half of you will be right back in for the last 3 hours of gamma shift. While the other half reports for the first 3 hours of beta shift. I know this may be difficult for some of you but we will work through this process together. " Ravok places his padd and hands behind his back and starts walking back and forth looking in the eyes of the men and women positioned before him " Each and every us of you owe the federation our absolute best . We will make the safety of this operation our top priority at all times. WE ARE ON STAND BY AT ALL TIMES. Here are the rules we will adhere to each and every moment of each and every day. " He stops pacing and faces them all straight on " First We will all follow orders as they are given to us. And we will follow them to the letter. Secondly Admiral Ramae is extremely busy and should never have to worry about what the hell we are doing here. He shouldn't have to worry when it comes to reading any reports from our daily duties. Third let's not do any thing stupid and get us or anyone else hurt or killed. And finally for all my pilots , We never fly alone anytime you take flight you will have your assigned flight officer with you. Is that clear?" " YES SIR " the m03 staff responded " Our squadron is M03 , M01 is commanded by Ensign Ire Williams and m02 also k own as the red dragons is commanded by Ensign Tripp Williams. R01 is the squadron completely dedicated to protecting The republic is also known as the patriots. We do not have a name yet because the squadron hasnt earned that right. We will earn our name and when that day comes people will remember that name" " What about the Warbirds! " yelled one of the staff. Ravok snapped his head and looked at the crewman and looked at his padd "Crewman Baker , what made you think of that ? " Ravok asked " well you are romulan and I think it's only fitting " replied crewmen Baker. With a smirk Ravok glared at Baker " Front and center Crewman Baker " exclaimed Ravok Baker nervously stepped forward and faced the staff Ravok looked Baker up and down then glared at his squadron " Crewman Baker has named just named us the warbirds ,simply because I am Romulan. Crewman Baker thinks this is a fitting name for a squadron. This will be our name until we earn our name" Ravok stated"Sir permission to speak freely " asked Baker. Ravok nodded his head "I am not comfortable serving under or with a romulan. Romulans murdered my grandfather . They stole him away from my family" responded Baker. Ravok took a deep breath and looked at the floor "My grandfather was killed by Brave klingon warriors, They were so Brave in fact they killed my unarmed grandfather and the two little girls he was protecting. The two little girls were klingon, their father had angered the klingon warriors and they slew him in cold blood and they proceeded to kill this Klingon man's entire family. They tracked the two little girls to a civilian star base near the neutral zone. And killed them. To my grandfather it didnt matter that the girls were klingon. he died doing the right thing. But those brave klingon warriors killed my grandfather slowly and made him suffer because to them it mattered that he was romulan." Ravok paused and cleared his throat " I have never held any resentment towards a single klingon nor will I ever because A person is not their race. I will never judge anyone because of their race. But you judge me and that's fine my code is not yours. I can respect that , but you made a choice to serve starfleet and that Racism of yours is forfeit. " Ravok hold up his Padd and looks at it " Crewman Baker you are no longer a pilot in this squadron, you are now a flight officer , my flight officer. You will assist me in every flight and every drill . When I fly you are with me .You sleep when I sleep and you eat when I eat. You will also help me make the warbirds as efficient as possible. Is that clear ?" " Yes sir..." responded Crewman Baker " Ravok looks at his staff" I have sent each of you a list a procedures and objectives. Ailynn smiled, and pushed the plate of pesche di prato across the table. This was going to be a big conversation in itself. “The civilian wing and clinic are both at about 20% operational, medical research is all but nonexistent the labs haven't been touched in years and it shows. I,however, do not think we need to worry about the labs yet we just need to get this place ready incase we have a mass medical emergency. ” Kasian looked around the table he sounded so negative and that wasn’t like him at all, He general kept himself pretty neutral on thing never super positive or super negative. The technicians were already hard at work placing M03 on the sides of the vessels. And making any pretrip preparations. He even noticed a few flight officers assisting in this effort. Ravok smiled and started assisting in the work wherever he could. Not to soon after a young human woman approached Ravok. She seemed a little nervous " Um sir, I am .. I mean I'm sorry to bother you but I'm Maria Reyes , you assigned me as your chief technician. I just wanted to thank you for the chance to work with you. And for trusting me to handle the care of the vessels" Ravok chuckled a little bit and cracked a smile at her. " Its ok , you are no bother at all and I trust you because your records indicate you are the best in this squadron at the position. I am the one who should be thanking you , getting the technicians together so quick and and taking on preparations before schedule. " Ravok replied Maria smiled back at him and then leaned towards him and with a low volume to her voice said " sir just so you know I have absolutely no problem with you being a romulan. Your the first one I ever met and to be honest your not all that different looking from a human and Vulcan hybrid. " As she said this to Ravok she seemed like she was slightly afraid " I'm sorry I am prone to putting my foot in my mouth. Please dont make me a janitor for saying the romulan stuff , oh crap I did it again". Maria sighed. Ravok laughed " No no you are fine. I have a rare genetic condition that mothers pass to their children, It causes my physical appearance to not have many of the romulan physical features. " Replied Ravok as leaned towards her looking her in the eyes " and just so you know I have absolutely no problem with you being a human " Ravok said with a smile. " keep up the good work. I am around if you need me " said Ravok and Maria nodded and walked away. Ravok made his way over to one of the fighters its designation was M03-53012-1117. Ravok put his hand on the side of the fighter and smiled like a Ferengi finding a bar of gold pressed latinum under its pillow. " This is the one " He said . The transporters around Mars were non-functional although independent transporters were running, those on the runabouts as an example. Usually, every dock, base, ship and monkey’s uncle would have a working transporter but for now, the Starfleet base was struggling for working parts and maybe the Admiral should have waited but that wasn’t in the Bajoran’s nature. ~ I wonder if anyone else has contacted the civilians and looked into their transporter systems? ~ The Admiral was going to make a note of it, but his pod docked with its destination, Dock 1, which enveloped the jewel of the Martian crown, the USS Republic. (Spacedock 1 – Walkway Alpha - CO Admiral Remae Ktell – 14.15) The glass walkway that led to deck 4 exposed the view of the Republic in all her glory. That glory was somewhat dampened by the fact the port nacelle was detached from the ship and attached to an inner gangway, obviously undergoing external repair, or at least, it was until the project had been seemingly abandoned. He walked slowly along the walkway, taking in as much of the Republic as he could before arriving at a computer terminal and the inner door to the ship. The computer screen flickered to life, just. It was working on a reduced power mode but it was enough for the Admiral to rest his hand against the screen, for his authorisation to be read and for the doors to the ship to open. By being told to open, the doors to the ship had unlocked but refused to open… the Admiral had to manually open the doors using brute force. When they slide open, it was clear that there was no power, at all, the entire ship was dark and even with the external power lines to the dock attached, it was still devoid of energy. The entire dock around the ship was running on low power mode and not providing any to the ship. Emergency, Auxillary and any other power sources from the ship itself were offline. He had brought one of the old fashioned palm beacons with him and when it was switched on, the extent of the mess was clear. There were missing parts from just about every computer system, from the walls, the consoles, the doors, everything. Someone had stripped her down for parts. Some good news, many parts were on the floor… they had been removed and left behind. (USS Republic – Deck 1 - CO Admiral Remae Ktell – 15:00) He was sweating… it wasn’t that big of a climb, up 4 decks? Was it? He wasn’t as young as he once was and it was clear he had spent too many lunches at HQ. Climbing up to the Bridge, the Admiral had made it to the nerve centre of the ship. He forced the doors open and stepped onto the command centre, his beacon sweeping the deck, the controls until he noted a flashing button on the OPS console, down by the large view screen. He walked down the central stairs of the Bridge until he reached the console and pressed the button. He had to be careful, the entire bridge seemed to be in parts on the floor. Lights came on in places across the ship, maybe 1 in 5 lights came on. Computer terminals began to flicker and externally, some of the external lights came on and some power began to flow throughout the ship. Remae had seemingly activated the last remaining and functional auxiliary power unit. ~ That’ll save time climbing up ladders across the ship ~ [[ Beep Beep ]] A computer terminal was beeping and Remae headed over there to take a look. The Admiral sat down and pressed the button which stopped beeping for a moment before an audio message crackled through the speakers, it was someone making a log but Remae couldn’t make it out the date, or time, or who it was but the intent was clear… =^= … damn the Andorians, they swept through the ship taking whatever they wanted and no one stopped them… I was ordered to step aside while they pulled… someone needs to do something… =^= The message stopped as quickly as it started. ~ Someone needed to do something all right, 20 years ago ~ Remae looked around at the three central chairs, standard configuration with the usual First Officer chair on the right side of the CO’s chair and another chair on the right side. Before he knew what he was doing, he was sitting in the CO’s chair. A ship that couldn’t go anywhere but it didn’t matter, this was his ship now and this is where he wanted to be. “Hello ship.”, he said. The ship declined to respond but as he took in the majestic sight of what the Federation was capable of producing, what was capable of at its height… what it was capable of so many years ago. He stood up and headed back to his ladder and headed back to Deck 4, he was going to clear the engineering teams to start the work on the Republic, the ship would be restored and become a symbol again of what Starfleet could do when it was at its best. The signal just fired up from the Republic.”, said an aide, waving across a PADD at his superior. Admiral Donovan Cayne wasn’t just the Commanding in Chief of Starfleet, he was a history buff, and he was enjoying this diversion as much as possible. “Did the message play?”, he asked, looking at his aide and when a nod was received, the assistant added, “Shall we send the orders now?”, his hand hovering over a button. “No, not yet… it's only been a couple of days, let’s give them more time. Continue sending the supplies and personnel to Mars, and we’ll wait.”, he said before waving his hand in dismissal. (Reply from None) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Mars Base, Security Check In, Sec/Tac Ensign jg Taya, 1635) Taya was in line at the security check in station. The personnel in front of her were all enlisted, so they asked her to go ahead of them. Waving them off, she would wait her turn, like everyone else. It was a long journey getting to Mars. The first obstacle was receiving permission from the Andorian government to join Starfleet. Since she was from an influential family with decades of service in the Imperial Guard, and because her mother spent time serving in Starfleet, Taya was allowed to join. She was certain there was more behind the decision, but she didn't question their motives. She was happy to be going. The next hurdle was the people in charge of Starfleet approving her application. She was certainly qualified, but with Andor no longer being a member of the Federation, there was some concern. She figured they let her in, hoping this would lead to more Andorians applying and eventually Andor rejoining the Federation. Talk about pressure! Taya's first day on Earth was filled with people staring at her. Some made rude comments or told her to go home, though no one was ever violent and no one crossed a line. She expected some resistance, but none of that bothered her. She didn't understand why people were blaming her for a decision other people made before she was born. Taya's first year in the academy was more of the same. Not one to run from a challenge, Taya kept going and eventually, she was accepted. After graduation, everyone in her class received an assignment, except for Taya. When good-byes were said and people were gone, she was still on Earth. Command had four years to decide what to do with her, but it seemed they hadn't made up their minds. Someone finally figuring that out, was why she was now on Mars. "May I see your orders, ma'am?" "Hm?" said Taya. "Your orders?" "Oh! Sorry. I was lost in thought." "Yes, ma'am." She handed him her PADD. The petty officer read the orders and tapped the keyboard of his computer. He handed it back to her. "I need to see what's in your bag." Taya unslung her capacious backpack and carefully emptied the contents onto the desk. She had a few family pictures, a special pair of shoes, and her ushaan-tor. The sharp blade was in a leather cover. The security officer eyed the weapon suspiciously. "I need to see if that's authorized to be on the base." After a moment on the computer, he nodded. "Welcome to Mars, ma'am." "Thank you, Petty Officer," said Taya. "You're to report to Admiral Remae. I uploaded a map of the base onto your PADD, and the location of your quarters." "Thank you." Taya returned her belongings into her pack. As she walked, she accessed the base layout. No one said anything, but there were many odd looks. That didn't stop her from saying hello, waving, or nodding to everyone she saw. The condition of the base surprised her. There was talk it wasn't up to standards, but she hadn't realized exactly what that meant. Dust, lights out, scattered debris in some of the corridors. She even saw a bird fly down a side hallway. There was a lot of work ahead. "The admiral will see you now, Ensign," said a yeoman. "Thank you." Taya got up from the chair she was in. Smoothing the front of her uniform, she left her backpack in the waiting room and entered the office. Standing at attention, she announced herself. "Ensign Taya reporting for duty, sir!"
