Not because he was bored, but because he'd been putting in insane hours. But he thought he could muster some down time with the crew and enjoy something other than looking at logs or repairing power conduits. Or worrying about his special project. There were more here than he expected, but anything sanctioned by the command staff usually had a good turnout. As he made his way to the bar, he acknowledged and spoke with many. Several congratulated him on his promotion. He managed to squeeze his way to the end of the bar. The bartender was extraordinarily attractive. He gave her a smile and ordered his usual dirty vodka martini. Returning with his drink she smiled back. "I'll be back to check on you." She added. Scott smiled and took a generous gulp as he turned around to view the mass of crew members who had gathered for this occasion. ~Now who here do I recognize?~ he pondered. Lieutenant T'Mur prepare a series of full power blasts for the command facility only.” T'shalaith didn’t speak but quickly transferred the firing solution to T’Mur’s station. Her knowledge of the Vulcan Chief Tactical Officer was limited, but she had an unusual sense of foreboding that she felt from the woman. For T'shalaith, it was always an experience navigating relationships with other Vulcans. (Reply: T'Mur) The Acting Chief Science Officer retreated to her own thoughts as the orders and conversations continued on the bridge. Instructions and confirmations were exchanged. T'shalaith wondered in the depths of her mind what the future held onboard the Illuminar with as many Vulcan as there were serving. She was a patient Vulcan, and was in no hurry to try and make what humans called, ‘friends’. It was an unusual foreign concept to her and was going to require her attention as time went on. She returned to the present as the captain spoke out the next order. "Lieutenant T'Mur fire when ready." (jg)T’Mur – 1400) “Captain, I believe I have discovered a solution to the power grid weakness scenario,” the new ACSO announced. The view screen showed the scenario as an opportunity to draw power from the stations main grid over one of the buildings, creating an imbalance of power, in essence weakening the shielding for the second building. "Send the data to tactical for a firing solution. Lieutenant T'Mur prepare a series of full power blasts for the command facility only." . T’Mur looked at the data as it came up in her screen. She began making the adjustments in power and targeting The ship moved into firing position and the Captain ordered the fighters from the area. “Phasers ready,” T’Mur called out. Looking around he nodded, all was in readiness. "Lieutenant T'Mur fire when ready T’Mur tapped the fire key and she watched her sensors as the phased energy struck at the single building. The energy drain on the faculty’s power source grew dramatically. And as predicted the power fluctuated from the secondary building to shore up the shields of the primary target. “Captain,” T’Mur said, “the shield generators are reaching critical output. I predict shield failure in 3.7 minutes.” (reply Sekal, any) (Posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Sigma Draconis VI – South building - Outer storage bay - SO PO1 – Steven Hammons - 1402) Having personal shields had been a selling point of their armored suits to Hammon's knowledge and its presence was paying dividends. The Petty Officer 1st class would have bitten alien dust on numerous occasions in the last few minutes had one not been present. The fire had been hot and heavy since they had charged through the door following flash bangs and stun grenades. The enemy had numerous crates and cubbies to hide behind so the armament hadn't been as effective as it should have and playing whack-a-mole would have been much more difficult so Hammons had made good use of his defense in the charge. He had also made good use of the strength assist as well as the phaser built into the right wrist of the suit. There were only 3 caught or fallen out in the open who had been stunned and himself and Devers had made short work of them, stunning them into insensibility. The rest they were having to work for. Hammons took the left wall and Devers the right. The first combatant was dug in behind a crate and the security officers weren't digging in but charging. You don't blitzkrieg by hiding behind the Maginot Line. The Andorian fired as Steven rounded it but his left-handed backhand knocked him into the middle of next week and deep into unconsciousness. From there Hammons charged the next goon using a pillar tied into the outside wall for cover. This guy tagged him twice before he covered the distance, Steven fired which caused him to duck for cover then got him with the phaser point blank which slammed him back against the wall. Energy beams were hitting him from from many angles as he charged forward from there and his shields were taking a beating but holding strong so far. Five were down to his knowledge and he couldn't let up on the attack, there was still too much ground to cover. He tossed another flash band at a knot of 3 ahead which caused them to duck back and scramble. One guy tried to run for it and Hammons dropped him, the other two had changed position. The helmet and HUD protected the petty officer who charged forward as it exploded. There were screams ahead, one goon stepped around a corner and tried to brain him with a metal rod which he caught with his left hand. He put his wrist almost in the guy's abdomen and fired. The Orion was thrown back 15 feet by the energy discharge and lay silent and unmoving. ~May be dead, not sorry.~ The bad guys at that point realized they were ten pins staring at a wrecking ball and a few started running which exposed them to the guys following who started picking them off as the insertion team methodically took down the remaining knots of resistance. It took only a few minutes before the defenders were routed. Hammons shields at that point were down to 26% so he shut them down as the insertion team regrouped prior to pressing forward. The scientist and unshielded members of the squad were bringing up the rear. Hopefully they would be of help in bringing the shield down if the ship was unable to do so. I predict shield failure in 3.7 minutes.” The CO looked down at the mini screen on the chair arm and agreed with her assessment. The partial strength firing had been designed to weaken the main power supply over time with this sort of maneuver as the end game if efforts on the planet were unsuccessful. In the end it made no difference how those shields were taken down, only that they were in the end. There had never been any doubt that they would eventually come down, the marauders had no way to wait out the starship and no one to drive off or destroy it. Their long range communications array had been destroyed by the fighters so they had no hope of rescue. And with the Hades and Tolliver watching the system there was only one way this scenario played out. The king was in checkmate. It was therefore no surprise when he got a call from the operations station. "Captain I'm receiving a local transmission from the surface. They want to talk to you." "On screen." The image was grainy but cleared quickly as the officer cleaned it up. Sekal remained seated. "This is Captain Sekal of the USS Illuminar. Who am I speaking to?" The Orion's shoulders were slumped. =^= I am Prefect Rekar and I wish to discuss my surrender. =^= The Vulcan gave a slight nod. "A logical step. Your shields will be down in 2.8 minutes." Rekar drew in a deep breath. =^=Cease your bombardment and I will lower the shields.=^= "And if you then refuse to do so no further communications will be accepted." The Orion threw up his hands. =^=What hope do I have of holding out Captain? You can keep this up from orbit at your leisure. I'm not a fool. You've managed to keep the Controller out of the battle somehow and this base has no offensive weaponry. My shields will fail and my time is running out. But I can't lower my shields while you are firing at me.=^= "Logical." The Vulcan agreed. He turned to Tactical. "Cease fire." (Reply: T'Mur, any) With the bombardment ended Rekar spoke to someone off screen. =^=Lower the shields.=^= (Reply: T'shalaith) The Orion turned his attention back to the communication. =^=Our shields are down.=^= Sekal motioned for the comm to be paused momentarily. "Ensign T'shalaith send the coordinates to their control room to transporter room 2. Have a security team transport down to secure it and take the prefect and his control group into custody." (Reply: T'shalaith) Sekal then turned back to the monitor. "Continue the communication." The officer complied immediately. "Order your troops to stand down Prefect." Rekar nodded solemnly and turned away. =^=Do as he says.=^= When he turned back it was in resignation. =^=The order has been given. It had been illogical that they had thought they could outfight a Starfleet vessel, never mind the other ships that were in the system. There was a maniacal hope that seemed to run through the blood of underdogs in these moments, and if the Vulcan science officer had been human, she would have been amused. Instead, her mind went to the game of chess that had been played and how each player viewed the board. Perhaps the Prefect believed he had just the thing to take out a Starfleet ship, or that somehow he would escape. As clinical as the game of chess could be, it still had the ability to surprise. . =^=Our shields are down.=^= The captain turned his attention to her. "Ensign T'shalaith send the coordinates to their control room to transporter room 2. Have a security team transport down to secure it and take the prefect and his control group into custody." “Acknowledged, Captain.” With the shields down, the sensors were alight with data that had been hidden. She pinpointed the control room, collected the map of the room, and tapped her console. “T'shalaith to Security.” (reply security) “Captain Sekal requests a security detachment for immediate engagement in securing the enemy control room and putting the prefect and his people in custody.” (reply security) She tapped her console, “The information has been sent to you and transporter room 2. This base is yours.=^= If she had been human, she would have smiled, or even perhaps thrust a fist of celebration in the air. Instead, her confidence in her abilities was validated in how the plan had played out and that she had played a part in the successful mission. She would eventually sit down in her quarters and record her first official log as Acting Chief Science Officer. That would be the time to reflect on her response times, and identifying paths to improved thinking and logical processing. For now she shifted her station to monitoring the ongoing ceasing of hostels and ensuring there were no surprises waiting on the base. If the energy displacement went much longer this was going to come to an end in a manner that humans might consider… dramatic. Surely the administrators of the facility were seeing the forgone conclusion. It did not take a full minute before the incoming message from the surface came in, and the Orion Prefect offered his terms of surrender. “Cease fire,” Sekal ordered. T’Mur tapped the key and the phasers stopped. =^=Our shields are down.=^= “Confirmed,” T’Mur said as she noted the power level on the shield generators went below a level in which they might ever be likely to power up again. At least not without some work. She raised an eyebrow when Sekal asked T’shalaith to order a security team to secure the facility. She was curious how that did not fall into her purview, however, she was certain he had a reason. This might be a question for later. However, for the moment, Lt. As soon as they had overcome the resistance they went to work on what was inside. The door had led them to the shield generator, their ultimate goal. Taylor knew that there was only one thing to do. He looked at Devers and a feral smile grew across his face. This… was going to be fun. As he approached the generator he could feel the heat coming from it. It was overheating from it’s out put. He wondered what, exactly, the Illuminar was doing out there, but he could feel the ground around him vibrating, so he knew it was probably something horrible… for the Orions. This made him smile even more. He pulled off his backpack again and rummaged through. He had something special for this occasion, and pulled out two blocks of something that will produce an adequate amount of destruction. He liked to call it C4Yourself. The placed the blocks by the generator, a little worried that the heat might cause the explosive to destabilize and blow early. He inserted the detonators into the blocks and then took a step back to admire his work. He looked around the room then at the others. “Yeah…. We may want to step out of the room,” he suggested. Everyone took a step away from the generator then they all filed back out of the doorway and hid behind a corner. Suddenly the ground stopped humming. =^=Illuminar to security teams. No, he wanted to get his boom. He worked hard to get it, and by God he was going to get it. He quickly thought of an idea, taking from his belt, a couple of flash bangs grenades. Then threw them into the fighting group. The grenades explored lighting up the passage with a bright flash. The Illuminar security officers were protected by the flash as their helment hubs automatically darkened. Not so for the pirates who were suddently all blinded by the flash. Lee and the rest of team quickly took advantage of the situation by overcoming their opponents with their fists and their hand phasers. With a matter of moments, it was all over. “Well done, Johnson!” called out Lee as he stepped over the bodies. The armoured suits with their personal shields were a contribution to saving the lives of the team. Lee looked at his team members, their suits covered with blood, dirt and gore!! P’Rah and Galk following Lee who had his phaser carbine extended in front of him making their way down the passageway They came to a passageway leading around a bend, culminating in a door. Again, the team paused long enough for Lee to take a scan, and his finger gestures told his comrades that there were several life signs on the other side of the door. He held up four fingers to show that his scanner showed four weapon signatures. Lee didn't have to say anything as he positioned his hand over the door activator. When he saw and confirmed that the others were prepared, he mashed the button, and the door slid open to reveal a mess room.. Lee kept the team moving, and as they proceeded down the passage this way, zig-zagging. They approached a corner and Lee risked a quick glance around the corner, and saw the ceiling-mounted turret. He raised his weapon and let loose with maximum setting, and before the automated disintegrator ray could target her in, the sheer volume of Lee’s firepower reduced the weapon emplacement into a slagged heap of molten metal. Immediately he waved through the rest of her team, covering the last fifteen meters. Their advance was painfully slow. Every corner could hide a foe and there was no shortage of corners there. The lighting system was down and the team had to rely on the lights on their helmets They emerged into the rear cargo bay; a two-tiered chamber split by a catwalk. They moved out of the passage and stood on the rail less walkway, as the sound of the throbbing machinery echoed around them. Lee paused to check for readings and there were lifestyles below when he felt the impact phaser blast upon his chest. Thank goodness, his shielding saved him but it was painful. Lee rolled over into a prone firing position, and began firing in short, controlled bursts back in the direction of the attack, which was a shadowy alcove below. His senses were sharp and his brain was running a real-time analysis. He was trying to figure out the exact position and strength of the opposing force. At least they were in an advantageous high position. The space next to his head was hacked by the impacts of phaser fire, sparking and bursting behind the team. "Can you see them?" asked Lee between shots. (reply) "On a count of three," Lee said. "I'll go low, you go high." He raised his phaser carbine and edged closer to the corner. He could see other shadows moving “Fire!” (reply) Lee spotted a darting figure moving through the shadows and fired at the running figure but missed. He quickly glanced at his team firing their phasers “Pick your targets!” (reply) The entire encounter, from first phaser blast to last, was over in less than fifteen minutes. The area deck was now littered with fallen enemy crew, and the din of battle faded back into a nether worldly silence over the susurration of the machinery. T’Mur could feel her sensuality streaming through their connection. But the corridors of deck 11 had many people in it so there was no way to release their tension. Even the turbo lift gave them little privacy. However, they were able to play games with each other. T’Mur would lightly touch Sienna’s hand and send a mental image of the two of them locked in a passionate embrace. Sienna’s reaction sent waves of pleasure through her own mind. Sienna kept her hand twined with her mates as they stood in the back of the turbolift that was crowded with several other people. She was the FO, so she had to be decorous as they made their way to their quarters. ::I love you?:: Sienna asked quietly, needing the reassurance. Her emotions had been all over the place this night and she was looking forward to being back in their quarters, just them. It had been a long night indeed. Walking through the corridor T’Mur noticed that for the first time they were alone. She stopped and pulled Sienna into her. Feeling through her mates passion she placed a hard kiss on her lips, pushing her against the wall to press deeper, physically and telepathically. ::How much do you love me?:: Sienna whimpered as T’Mur put her against the wall and the two slowly began to merge into one, the moments that Sienna enjoyed the most when they were making love. ::More than my twin, more than family. I love you.:: She reaffirmed. ::And I you.:: T’Mur sent back entwining her thoughts of love with Sienna’s until it was difficult to know whose thoughts were whose. Suddenly the Vulcan’s ears picked up the sound of a door opening, and T’Mur managed to extricate herself from her mate. She looked around to find Michael Weston leaving Quinna’s quarters. There was no way to shelter Sienna from the sight and prepared herself for the options of what would happen next. Sienna turned and with a bellow of rage crossed quickly to Weston, “What the Ever-Living VITH where you doing INSIDE her quarters?” Her emotions had been all over the place since the bonding with Luma and the displeasure of having what was beginning with T’Mur interrupted by HIM. “Ummm...Good evening?” Weston replied, not exactly sure what was going on. “Commander, Lieutenant. Is there a problem?” The sudden rush of violent emotions from Sienna through their connection had an effect on T’Mur. It was as though a part of her barbaric heritage began to bubble through. She worked hard to control the feelings of rage that her mate’s emotions brought on her. She had poised her body for a very violent confrontation. If Sienna were to order it now, she is not sure she wouldn’t kill Weston. Sienna pulled up right in front of Weston and pushed him, hard on the shoulders with the force of getting across to the door. Sienna was up in Weston’s face, hissing at him, “Answer me. What were you doing IN her Quarters? If you took advantage of her, I will castrate you and then flay the skin from your body.” Yes, Sienna despised Weston and thought the absolute worst of him. Weston raised his hands defensively, trying to back up. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down there Commander. First of all, what Quinna and I do are absolutely none of your business. Secondly, did you see her leave the party. Even if I were capable of doing what you’re accusing me of, not much would have been capable. And C, no, I would never do something like that… to anyone, least of all to Quinna. Believe it or not I do care about her.” “IF you cared about her, you would have kept her out of your bloody mess. IF you cared about her, you would be staying far, far away from her. And lastly, I am the First Officer of this ship and she is under my protection so you will stay away from her or I will deal with you.” Sienna could not believe how incredibly angry she was with him, and this level of anger was not at all normal for her. Sienna’s anger drew Luma’s attention and that would not be a good thing. Michael shook his head, still looking a bit confused, “Look, have you met Quinna. If she decides she’s going to do something then she’s going to do it. You don’t think I tried to talk her out of it. Captain Sekal tried to talk her out of it. And as much as I can appreciate that you want to protect her, I’m pretty sure I can take care of her protection. If you have a problem with me, I suggest you take it up with the Captain. Otherwise you and I are going to have a long trip the Altair system.” Sienna pulled her fist back, intending to strike Michael’s chin. Her rage boiled higher. Luma’s presence grew stronger around them. T’Mur had managed to regain her composure and caught Sienna’s hand, ::Sienna, we have company.:: Sienna turned her attention to T’Mur and turned away from Weston, letting her mate tug her away from the man. ::Luma will hurt the bad man!:: Luma cried out telepathically and that cooled Sienna’s temper, like ice water on a burning inferno. ::No, Luma, no. Leave him be. I know he looks like a bad guy but Sekal trusts him.:: ::Luma DOES NOT TRUST.:: The Lenai roared back, echoing Sienna’s earlier anger. ::It’s fine, Luma, I promise. We’ll talk to Sekal before we do anything, all right?:: Sienna had not realized how entwined she would become with Luma and it was not something that she was particularly skilled at. She gave herself passionately to anything, and Luma’s emotions on top of her own were not acceptable. Weston watched as clearly something was going on between the Betazoid FO and the Vulcan CTO. They were locked in some kind of telepathic conversation. He’d seen Loron do something similar. But there was more to it than he was seeing. Sometimes he would like to have been telepathic just to hear certain conversations. He thought, that this might, perhaps, be a good time to take his leave, besides, he had to recover Quinna’s uniform before Galk stretched it out. “Look ladies,” he said, “I’d love to finish this enlightening conversation, but I have places to be.” Slowly he made his way around the two women and started to walk towards the turbolift. As he walked he heard the sudden hum and stopped as he tapped the energy field separating him from his escape. “Uhhh… so…. I’m not leaving?” Then it dawned on him. “Am I headed for a time out?” Sienna stayed quietly beside T’Mur, concentrating on calming Luma’s emotions. Sienna needed T’Mur to help her. T’Mur focused her mind and centered herself, wrapping her calm around Sienna’s turmoil. ::Be at peace my love. Breath and calm yourself.:: Then she found a new link. One that had not been there before. T’Mur felt that she had known every part of Sienna’s mind but this part… this part belonged to Luma. Her first response was surprise. Then there was a moment of … disappointment. That which had only been hers, she shared with another. ::Sienna, what have you done?:: That moment passed as the immediate emergency took precedence. :: Luma, it is not our place to judge this man, nor punish him. He operates in a different way than we do. His rules are different. We do not have to trust him. But we must leave him to his way.:: Luma’s unhappiness was palatable and Luma trapped Weston between two sets of force-fields that caused him to be zapped if he breathed too deeply. Luma held it for about fifteen seconds, then both of them disappeared. =^= If that Weston touches Luma’s Quinna, that Weston will live in the BRIG. =^= Luma threatened before the sense of her faded and Sienna leaned heavily against T’Mur. “Go, Weston.” Sienna ordered. She needed to be alone with T’Mur. This was the talk they hadn’t had time for the night before, and it needed to happen. That flash of disappointment had hit Sienna like jagged pain. She wanted T’Mur to be pleased with her, she needed them to be happy to keep her equilibrium. Weston shook his head and tentatively reached his hand out to make sure the security field had actually disappeared rather than by some cruel joke just moved a few inches from him. Once sure he began to walk away. Before he left their view he turned. “For what it’s worth,” he said genuinely, “I do appreciate you looking out for your friend. But I am not here to hurt her.” The turbolift door opened and Michael was gone. T’Mur put her arms around Sienna and held onto her tightly. Then she withdrew. She took a step away and turned her body. “Let’s go home.” They walked the rest of the way to their quarters that way. The intimacy that they had been sharing previously had completely disappeared. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 2 - Personal Quarters -- FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin & CTO Lt (jg) T’Mur- 2315) They entered their quarters and T’Mur went to the sofa and sat down. Nobody had turned the lights on. She sat in the dark waiting. Sienna stopped by the door and curled up on the floor. “I didn’t know she needed a bondmate in order to do that jump. When we practiced them during the space trials, we had Vex. And the bond should have defaulted to Sekal but it couldn’t I guess. I don’t know why it was me. I didn’t ask for it and I… I don’t want it, I can’t be her bondmate.” Sienna rambled in a very small voice, wrapping around the pain. T’Mur took a deep breath and said plainly, “And yet you are, apparently.” She shuddered at her own coldness, still dealing with the raw emotions of both Sienna, Luma, and herself. “The problem is that nothing is complete. Our bonding is not complete yet. And now there is this. I understand how it happened. But why did you keep it from me?” Sienna looked up, confused by that question. “Sekal said it would fade. That if I didn’t want it, that it would fade. And I didn’t keep it from you, not deliberately. Just other things happened.” She sounded utterly miserable. “I’m the girl who was stuck with bonds that never faded and turned into pain.” She was so terrified that yet again she would be left alone. Her emotions were so raw and so vivid. T’Mur sat in the dark, quietly for two minutes. Then she reached back through the bond, gently touching the frayed ends of her bond with Luma. Noting the violent tearing and connecting that had occured. The she reached through their own bond, sensing her fear and loneliness. ::Come to me, my love.:: she called out to Sienna. ::Nothing has changed the way I feel about you.:: She pulled the Betazoid towards her through the bond. Sienna crawled slowly forward, doing as she was bid. Crying softly, as if she had lost everything. “We need to complete it then. Do whatever is necessary so that I’m not so scared that you will disappear too.” She spoke out loud. As the two touched, T’Mur could feel Sienna’s resolve to calling the Betazoid who had helped her in the past. T’Mur reached out and pulled Sienna up to her. “It is not that simple. What we need is time. Something we have not had in abundance as of late.” ::But believe me when I say I will never leave you. I know you’ve been told this before, but know this. My need for you is more than physical. I have never felt for anyone the way I feel for you. A Vulcan’s love is eternal. Even in death.:: She reached out with her hand and touched her mate’s face, and drove her mind deep into Sienna’s. She opened herself completely. Everything she was she gave to her love, her heart. Every though, emotion, her history, she was the open book. ::Look to see. I share with you everything.:: Sienna opened herself completely to T’Mur and the batte memory stood between them. The tactical error that had caused her to have the Illuminar in the wrong place. That she had ordered Luma to make the jump to prevent the Illuminar from being destroyed. The disorientation and the pain when Luma had forced that bond into being to anchor them in the time/space continuum. And Luma’s immediate apologies as she drained the Illuminar’s phasers to get the power she needed to complete the jump. How much pain Sienna had been when she emerged from the blackout on the Bridge. Sienna cried on T’Mur’s shoulder. ::I didn’t know what else to do.:: ::You did what you felt you needed to do to save the ship. You used the information you had available to you at the time. You made a decision. It was the right decision but had unknown consequences. I am proud that you made it. :: She pulled Sienna forward and kissed her gently at first. Then passion began to boil again and her kiss grew with it. Sienna’s mind was still working in overtime. She was nervous and scared. The passion was coming back, it always did when T’Mur was kissing her. The contact made their bond flare higher, and she began to merge with her mate. ::What if I do something wrong? What if I lose you too?:: She knew that she needed counseling on the subject, her anxieties around T’Mur were not at all logical, and the wound she carried from her earlier life often broke open and bled again. Usually at the worst times. ::I wish Reea had a better ability to counsel but I’m also glad that she was reassigned. I hope we get a decent counselor to replace her. Alaya’s my friend and talking to her isn’t the same. And I don’t think I can talk to Quinna about it, since she is part of the problem.:: Sienna broke the kiss to lay her head on her mate’s shoulder. Here she could show her doubts and insecurities that she kept locked up. T’Mur was rapidly becoming her best friend and her confidant. T’Mur allowed herself to enjoy her appreciation of the sensation of her mates position. She liked snuggling with Sienna. It was when she felt she belonged. But the bleeding of her negative feelings from her past relationship failures created an emotional response somewhere in her more violent Vulcan nature. ::I can only continue to reassure you that you will not lose me. We are not two connected, we are one that temporarily separates. It will always be so.:: Then she turned to another thought, which calmed her more aggressive side. ::You have often said that if it were not for my past we would not be together, and because of that you could forgive my father. I will say the same. If it were not for your past, and loss, we could not be together now. So I wonder … do you think you would be happier with … her, than you are with me?” ::NO!:: Sienna screamed the word instantly from the depths of her soul. ::NEVER.:: Her words were fierce. ::I know it doesn’t make sense. It isn’t logical. And I need counseling about it, to accept. I buried and avoided and now it has come up again and that worries me. And this thing with Quinna, I know it wasn’t real but it felt real. It clawed open that wound in me. I hope that in time it will heal, and it will scar over. I knew that I wanted you the first time I saw you. That night I had a dream about you, me and Tempest Grey Wolf in one of her shuttles.:: Sienna provided the appropriate images to accompany that statement which were indeed intriguing. ::I just knew that I wasn’t what a Vulcan woman needed, and from what little I knew about the culture, there was little chance you were not bonded. But I got lucky and I have you. This thing with Luma, that flash of disappointment you had in me… I would never hurt you deliberately. You are my love and my life.:: T’Mur pulled Sienna in tightly, as if she were trying to merge their bodies as they had their minds, ::As you are mine. I will continue to assure you of that one belief. I am completely unable to consider a situation in which I would no longer be with you. And I have made such an analysis.:: She opened her mind to run through some fairly graphic scenarios that painted Sienna in a not so positive light. However through them all T’Mur’s resolution remained the same. There was even a scenario in which Sienna fell in love with another. And although it caused T’Mur some anguish, her feelings of love remained the same. She would have let Sienna go for her happiness, even if it were a discomfort to herself. ::The surprise of finding Luma’s bond with you was disappointing, but it was not really disappointment with you. If nothing else, it was a disappointment in myself that I could not guard you. I will share you… if I must, in order to keep you.:: ::I hated that it wasn’t something that I could discuss with you before it happened. I hated that it happened at all. If I had a choice, I would have said no. I know what Luma can do to a telepath who lacks strength of will and just the psychic strength to handle her. I’m going to call Dr. Mias and talk with him, and see if he can assist in terminating the bond with Luma. I’m going to request that he come with us for a month or two so that I can get the counseling that I need that I can’t get here. I worry too much. You have become my home.:: Sienna replied, her mental voice soft as she snuggled further into T’Mur’s body. ::I’m kinda looking forward to learning to defend myself, especially with Quinna joining us.:: The memories of when she and T’Mur had attempted to practice came back full force and Sy’s breath hitched in desire. ::You don’t mind that with you I feel safe enough to let the submissive side out?:: Her dark eyes looked up at her mate. T’Mur moved her head so that she could look deeply into her dark pools of eyes. ::I am gratified that you do feel safe with me to show me every aspect of who you are. I am still learning how to be the dominant personality that you are looking for. There are some things I am more comfortable with as equals. But I love your submissive side. It helps me… explore.:: Her hands began to move up and down Sienna’s back. Sy’s soft moans echoed as T’Mur explored her skin, “We should go undress. Maybe sit in the hot water. And head to bed, it is quite late...and we have an early morning.” Sy stroked T’Mur’s face gently with her hand and leaned in for another kiss. “I agree,” T’Mur said, grabbing the back of her hair roughly and taking the kiss she wanted, “but first, let’s explore… ::a little.:: And with that Sienna gave herself entirely to her mate. (reply none) (posted by Mel, and Al) DAY 11>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar Deck 3 - Gregory’s quarters -- 2/O Lt.Commander Dieter Gregory - 0430) Gregory finally made it back to his quarters at 0400. While the public wetting down ended around midnight, Reolra and an Ensign from medical kept him busy with some post-party celebrations. Sitting alone in his quarters, drinking water and kava juice. Alone with his thoughts, he contemplated that last week on the Illuminar, with all the action, loss and suffering, as well as the victories and yes, even his promotion. He wondered about the visit from his ghost. About the key. He felt compelled to show it to the good doctor, but why? He didn’t like not understanding, it didn’t make sense to his idea of an ordered world. “Luma, I would speak with you, if you are awake,” he said. It sounded corney, but he didn’t know if Luma slept, or rested in a way that humans might. That heavy sense of Luma’s presence grew stronger in the area, =^= Luma greets the Dieter! The Dieter had fun playing with the other small ones? =^= Luma sounded naively innocent of her definition of play. “The Wetting Down,” he asked, “It was indeed a most excellent time. Bohb’s contraption was a party favorite. As was the punch. I do hope that there were not too many people visiting sick bay.” “Or were you watching in the store room?” Dieter asks. =^= There were private things in the store room. Luma turned off the eyes. =^= She replied. “I appreciate your discretion Luma. Thank you.” Gregory replied. “Our conversation last time was interrupted, and I hoped to learn more about you, if you are willing to share,” he said. =^= Yes, the Dieter may ask. Luma may answer, or may not due to her wishes.=^= Luma sounded proud of herself. “Luma, forgive my forward question, but how did the Lanai procreate? If you are the last of your species you must be lonely. Is it possible there are others out there of your kind and perhaps we can find a way to find them? Not to brag, but I am pretty good at particle physics.” =^= There are no more. The last was killed by the Mystique. He was insane and wanted destruction of everything. If there were two Lenai, they would mingle and a new might form. It was rare on the planet, and few were created in the after. If any Lenai were still alive in the starsong Luma would hear them.=^= “What is this starsong?” Gregory asked, =^= Space does not sing to the small ones? The small ones do not hear the murmur of all the planets that merges into a symphony? The Lenai can sing and merge our songs with that of the starsong.=^= “Sadly that is not something I perceive. I can establish a computer program to measure the harmonics and play it back.” Gregory replied. =^= That would be interesting. Like the whales of the Earth Terra? Where the Gregory’s people come from? =^= Luma’s voice got almost jubilant. =^= Luma heard that there was once a Captain named Kirk and that he brought the whales back to Terra?!=^= Luma giggled, =^= Was this a True story? =^= Gregory smiled, “Indeed Luma, that was a true story about an amazing crew. I have never seen one, always buried in a book or electronics, but yes, the whale's song can travel for 100s of miles, at a frequency humans cannot hear so a similar approach would apply.” “I will be talking to Ensign Bohb shortly. I asked him to look into the cause of the crystal breaking when you were transferred for it into the Illuminar.” =^= Luma asked her Bohb to do this as well. The current thought is that the harmonics were incorrect.=^= There were things that Luma was not going to explain to Gregory. His clearance was not high enough. “My worry, Luma, is this. The Illuminar boasts some of the most advanced tech in the fleet, and as such, we have lots of crew and cadets cycling though our ship. And you are a very friendly and outgoing being. I am concerned that this will spread the knowledge of you around the fleet. The end result could be our own Star Fleet people trying to take you away from the Illuminar. Or some unfriendly government painting a target on the Illuminar’s back.” Gregory paused to sip his juice. “I would be remiss if we didn’t start thinking about some contingency plans in case the worst comes to bear.” =^= The Starfleet intelligence took Luma once and imprisoned her on the Mystique and abandoned her there for over 30 years. If Starfeet could not figure out how to BREED or WEAPONIZE Luma back then, they will not now. And Luma’s Father, the Vice Admiral Saleke has the Vulcan government behind him. He has told the other Vice Admirals on his Committee that if Luma is messed with, then he will take Luma, and the other Vulcans and leave the Federation. Luma is safe from Starfleet because of him and the Vice Admiral Vanyssa Winters who found Luma and was her first bondmate. As for the unfriendlies, that is why Luma is not allowed to do microjumps or time jumps unless it is a dire need like in the last battle. And even then it can’t be much. Luma is sad that the troubles were created. =^= Luma paused for a moment as if in deep thought then spoke quietly, =^= The contingency plan is for the Trei to take Luma with the Montero and flee to Earth and Mars if necessary. Is that what the Gregory means? The Illuminar can operate separately from Luma but the skin works much better with Luma in it. =^= “What would it take to make it easier for Luma to move from the Illuminar to the Hillary?” Gregory asked, “rather than through the crystal? Of course, the second question would be what might we be able to do to improve the speed of the Hillary to clear out quickly?” =^= 7.. No 9 of the bioneural gelpacks could contain Luma in an emergency. Those are heavy though and there is no current interface at the HIllary. The HIllary does not have the power needed to make those quick jumps, and it does not have what would be needed for a temporal jump. Luma’s bondmate would need to be there, since that would mean that Luma would be all alone, trapped in the packs. The crystal is easier since it has subspace links already in it. While the Trei is an empath and a warrior, she is not a strong enough telepath to assist Luma as a bondmate. Our Sienna is not strong enough but she is close.=^= Luma sounded...scared.. Of being cut off from all sensation and being stuck alone for so long. “Well, then it seems the order of business is to make sure you have a bondmate, and we’re going to Betazed, so hopefully that can be taken care of. Point two is making sure Bohb has some idea of the issues with the crystal. Perhaps those two new scientists can help him. Point three is to see about overhauling the Hillary for your comfort, as well as improved power and speed. I would, of course, clear it with the Captain, but I can get the operation pieces easy enough.” “Say, if we had another crystal, could we embed it in the Hillary, and provide a connection between it and the Illuminar to make it easier for you to move from one to the other?” he asked. =^=No. The crystal has access to a space that is limitless. There could be an interface for the Crystal on the HIllary, and that would be the safest way to move Luma. Perhaps a high energy conduit that connected to a crystal in the interface of the Hillary but that would take almost 30 of your minutes to move all of Luma. It is inefficient in a time where efficiency is of the most importance. Perhaps running simulations so that all may learn how to do this. It would need to involve THE Montero. =^= Luma’s voice now sounded dreamy like Montero was a holo-star and she a teenaged girl. Gregory chuckled to himself. It sounded like Luma might have a bit of a crush on the pilot. He had to grant that pilots did have better press than operations. “Of course Luma, we would want to make sure everything worked. With your permission, I’ll talk to the Captain to assemble a team to work on this and come up with an emergency plan. We will have to have a distinctive name for the plan so that those you trust can order it.” Luma’s voice squealed in joy. =^= Excellent! The Dieter has anything else he wishes to discuss?=^= “Not at the moment, Luma. It is late and I should get some rest. I’ll reach out to the Captain tomorrow with a proposal before bringing in others. But I hope we can talk again, it is nice to have the company on these sleepless nights.” =^= Does the Dieter know how to create music? =^= Luma asked hopefully. Gregory paused, wondering about the question, “No Luma, I have little musical talent. I can’t carry a tune without a wheelbarrel and my attempts to learn an instrument sounded like some midieval torture. I understand the math behind music, something that a writer from the 20th century discussed in detail, but my ability to translate that knowledge has so far been unsuccessful.” “Best I can do is ask for a song to be played.” =^= Would the Dieter like a lullabye then to assist in the sleepings? Luma has quite an extensive collection. =^= “Thank you for the offer Luma, but I am not sure that will help me. My mind has been a whirl of activity, which is keeping me up. I admit, I do like this time of the morning, when no one is away and you can get to think without all the hustle and bustle of the day,” he replied. “Unless, that is, you have a melody that is known to help the mind quiet itself.” Luma made a soft sound, =^= No, Luma will leave the Dieter to his thoughts and rest. Until another time.=^= And with that, the psychic sense of Luma faded. (Reply none) (Posted by Mel and Tim) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 2- CMO’s Quarters - CMO Lt. Quinna Solice/ SFI Michael Weston - 0530) Michael stood outside of Quinna’s quarters holding two cups of coffee. He was not exactly sure what her condition was going to be. Being a doctor she probably has every known cure to a hangover that existed, and she probably needed every single one of them. He also wasn’t sure what she'd remember from the conversation they’d had. She might just throw one or both of the cups at him. But he was hoping she’d, at the least, accept it as an olive branch. He reached out with his elbow and tapped the door chime. Quinna had been running about her quarters. She had been looking for something. “Come,” she yelled out and she had gotten on her hands and knees to look under the couch for her missing combadge. When the door opened, she turned her head to see the person who entered. She sat up and on her knees. A bit of confusion crossed her face, “Hi.” Michael smiled, “Hi yourself. I thought you might need a little pick me up after last night.” He held up one of the cups of coffee. “It's a special brew. Yes I actually brewed it. Not a replicated cup. Of course I did have to replicate the beans. And the cups. But it’s a little bit of mama Weston.” Quinna laughed a bit as she got off the floor and took the offered cup, “So is there something you can’t do better than I can?” She asked as she smelled the roast before she took the first drink. Her eyes grew wide as the hot beverage went down. “That is strong.” “I like to call it my stake out blend,” Michael said, taking a drink of his own cup. “It keeps you going when you don’t really want to. Can I ask what you’re looking for?” “Oh it is nothing. I seemed to have lost my combadge. No biggie, I have a replacement in my office. You are up early.” Quinna said as she sat and offered Michael a seat with a gesture of her hand. Michael nodded and shrugged, “You’ll find I’m up early a lot. It’s a habit from the field. I never sleep too long. However, I may be able to help you with your combadge issue.” He put his cup on the coffee table and made a flourish with his hands, producing the badge. “Is this your combadge?” he asked as if he were doing a magic trick. He came round the table holding her badge out. Quinna was impressed. Michael had impressed her. She took the combadge from Michael as their fingers touched. She let them linger a bit. “I am sorry I was rude to you before. I was angry about the operation. I was angry with you. But I don’t want you leaving without things being resolved.” Michael sat on the sofa and picked up his coffee. He took a sip before speaking. This was definitely a different situation than he’d been in before. He cared what Quinna thought about him. “I figured you’d be mad,” he said, “but it was necessary. I needed you to react exactly the way you did. Your emotions were all over the place and they needed to see it. If you had just cold bloodedly killed me, they wouldn’t have believed it. It wasn’t in your profile. I’m sorry you had to kill me.” “I see,” Quinna said as she put her coffee down. Quinna almost screamed but she was tired of being an emotional overload. “I am glad I was able to accommodate your operation. I see you were right. Your asset proved to be effective. You know deep down, I kind of thought there would be more between us. I know, but you warned me.” Michael listened, putting his cup down. He took a deep breath and turned to face Quinna. “It wasn’t that you proved to be effective,” he said. “I am not lying when I say what you did saved our lives, and the lives of others. You did exactly what you set out to do. And yes, I did try to explain the cost. But you weren’t having any of that.” He shrugged, allowing himself to become the focus of the problem. “You know, I am ok with it. All of it. The operation, saving the ship and family. My only regret is not living up to your expectation.” Quinna started. “I regret that I was not able to do what I needed to do so you could trust me. But aside from that, no regrets.” Quinna calmly spoke. “Great coffee. I assume you were able to get more information about your burn. When will you be leaving?” Quinna asked. Michael shook his head, as if he were trying to clear cobwebs. “Wow,” he said in disbelief. “You can change a subject fast enough. First of all, not only did you meet my expectation you exceeded it. And..” he realized he told her this last night but she was already unconscious, “I trusted you with my life. Did that mean that I had to play some of it close to my chest. Absolutely. In fact it was necessary. I’m glad you have no regrets. Neither do I. If trusting you with my life isn’t enough for you, then I’m not sure what would be.” He stood up and picked up his coffee. “And this is going to be a long ride for me to Altair since I’ve been ordered to stay with the ship for a while. And I like you Quinna. I haven’t allowed myself to truly like anyone for a while. But if all of that isn’t enough then I will make an effort to stay out of your way while I’m still on board.” Cup in hand he started for the door. Quinna closed her eyes, “Michael!” Quinna called out. “I am alive because of you. It tore me up have to “Dissengrate” your body. I had to keep cover and work hard on keeping those Raw emotions in check. I did not want you out of my life. I hurt when that happened.” Michael turned around and looked at the hurt in her face, “I know it hurt. But those people witnessing your pain… those are the people you wanted to stop. They allowed that to happen. But you were strong enough to keep going. You are far stronger a woman than you think you are. I wish I could tell you that it will all go away. I love it every day. And I pray that you never get used to it. The hurt will remind you that this is all real.” Quinna stood and walked over to Michael. She caressed his warm cheek with her hand, “It is a part of you, and now me. I don’t want to change anything now. I know I am strong enough to do it again when I have to.” Michael smiled returning the caress, “I just hope you never have too. But it is something you’re going to have to come to terms with. I’m here to help you with that part too. If you want it.” Quinna reached up and kissed Michael, “I am happy you are here. And I am sure there is plenty to learn.” Returning the kiss Michael’s smile grew, “I can think of a few things I’d like to teach you right now. But I believe you have to go to work.” “Hangover or not, maybe we can get together tonight?” Quinna asked. “I have a new duty to start learning.” “I believe I gathered that from last night, Dr. Third Officer,” Michael teased. “If you are a good girl, and play nice with others while you’re learning maybe, just maybe, I’ll have a special treat for you after you’ve finished with Beta shift.” “Ummm… What did you mean last night?” Quinna asked. It was Michael’s turn to look confused, “What did I say last night?” “I don’t know what you said last night. I did not see you last night.” Quinna replied back. Michael laughed and kissed Quinna on the cheek. “I saw you briefly at the party last night. You don’t remember? I think you’re going to see a lot of that today.” “I don’t even remember losing my uniform…” Quinna caught on. “Hence the combadge. Got it now. You better fill me in. Later.” “Just so you know I did risk life and limb to get that,” he touched a light bruise on his cheek. “But it was worth it. I will tell you whatever you want to know. Promise.” “Ok.” Quinna gave Michael one last kiss on the cheek, “I have to go. Can’t be late.” “Absolutely not,” Michael agreed. (Reply none) (Posted by Al and Kris) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 2 - Personal Quarters -- FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin and CTO Lt (jg) T’Mur - 0545) T’Mur had been poking at Sienna for the last half hour, trying to motivate her to dress for their meeting with her sister. However, true to form, she was unwilling to wake up to do something as mundane as getting dressed. “Do you really want to be late to meet with your sister?” she asked as Sienna pulled the sheets over her head. “Skyler would understand.” Sienna muttered, the blankets singing a siren song that meant more sleep. “Wait, what?” Sienna blinked sleepily as the words finally penetrated the fog and she realized what was said. “Skyler is...here?” Sienna asked, her eyes and nose emerging from the blankets just far enough to stare at her mate. “What’s Sky doing here? She’s on Sal...oh. He brought her to the Hades with him from the VDF?” She tried to remember if her parents had said anything about that. “You know Skyler and I are nothing alike, right?” Sienna dug herself out of the blankets and sat on the edge of the bed. “I’m glad I didn’t drink last night but wow, does my body hurt. And Counselor Reea is forcing me into sickbay to have those darned in-depth brain scans done. She’s worried about the forced bonding with Luma and the headaches I’ve had since.” Sienna paused for a second, “I wish I could reach Vex about it. I’d love to talk to her.” T’Mur gave Sienna a strange look. She was beginning to realize that speaking in bursts must be a family trait, although she did not get that from speaking with her father. “Remember that I did meet Skyler yesterday while on the Kang. We had a conversation in the Prancing Pony. Interestingly she likes grape soda. I did warn you about breakfast this morning. And yes, I do realize you are different people, but you do have several similar traits.” She grabbed Sienna’s hands and pulled her off the bed to a standing position. “Now get dressed or we will be late. She may understand about you, but not about me.” A grumbling Sienna turned to her closet. Uniform or civilian clothing. She didn’t want to look like she was going to work, but she also knew that she was technically on duty while undergoing the scans. “Uniform it is.” Sienna groused as she quickly dressed and twisted her hair into a low bun. A quick wash of her face and hands and she looked in the mirror for a moment. “You may have told me about it but my brain doesn’t wake up really fast.” She muttered to her vulcan mate and presented herself for inspection. “Do I pass? Or do I get a spanking for not waking up on time?” Her voice was hopeful. “There will be time for that later,” T’Mur said, straightening the creases of Sienna’s uniform. “For now your appearance should be acceptable for the Lt. Commander. However, it should be she who is concerned about impressing you. Yod do, after all, outrank her.” She picked a small piece of lint from the shoulder and smoothed it all down. With a final pat on her bottom, perhaps more forceful than intended she nodded. “You look as wonderful as always.” To finish her inspection she gave Sienna a small kiss on the cheek. Sienna leaned into the kiss, savoring the contact as their lips touched. “Let’s go.” Right as her comm badge chirped. =^= Commander, a Lt. Cmdr Verin from the Hades has beamed aboard. She is waiting in transporter room 2. =^= Sy tapped her comm badge, “Lt. T’Mur and I are on our way to meet my older Sister, Chief. Be nice to her, she bakes great chocolate chip cookies.” Sienna closed the connection. “Chocolate chip cookies?” T’Mur asked. “Oh yeah. She weedled Dad’s recipe out of him and she makes great cookies. Don’t worry, I won’t touch the kitchen. Setting fire to the First Officer’s quarters would not go over very well. I know my limitations.” “I will keep that in mind,” T’Mur said, keeping to herself her curiosity over the word weedle. “Let’s not keep your sister waiting.” She held out her hand and touched the back of Sienna’s hand with two fingers. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Bridge -- Deck 1 -- 3XO/ CMO Lt. T’Mur nodded to the woman she had met the day before. “Lt. Commander, welcome aboard, again.” Skyler stood at attention, dressed in a rather lovely olive and green pantsuit, her long blond hair down, pulled back with hair combs to expose her pointed ears. Her boots were the ones that the Vulcan Defense Force wore. Her hands were behind her back, in the stance many vulcans took, the tin of cookies at her feet. “Sky.” Sienna spoke, stepping into the room and basically throwing herself at her older sister, expecting Skyler to catch her. Skyler, used to the shorter woman’s impulsive actions, planted her feet squarely and absorbed the impact of Sienna’s body so that they did not even rock. “Hey Sis.” Skyler was much taller than Sienna and dropped a kiss onto Sy’s head. “T’Mur.” Skyler spoke, her voice full of warmth, unafraid to show it with her Sister. “Let’s go find some snackies.” Skyler spoke teasingly. “Sky!” Sienna exclaimed as the trio of women left the transporter room. The tin of cookies had been retrieved and shoved into T’Mur’s arms since Sienna was clinging to her sister. T’Mur simply raised an eyebrow as she looked at the round metallic container that had been put in her care. ~Chocolate chip cookies?~ Suddenly she had been left behind as the sisters walked down the hallway. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 4 - Prancing Pony -- FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin and CTO Lt (jg) T’Mur - 0610) The women found a table easily. Breakfast was not typically a busy time for the lounge. There were a few other couples eating, and one table was occupied by a small group who clearly had not gone to bed following the party. Sam, himself came out the table to take their orders. “Ladies, to what do I have the honor of three of Starfleet’s loveliest to come to my establishment this fine morning?” Sienna grinned at Sam looking more cheerful than the FO generally did in the morning, “Hi Sam! This is my older sister, Skyler. She’s visiting before the Hades scoots off.” “Ah yes, the ever enchanting Ms. Skylar, as I recall,” Sam said, “as charming as ever.” He picked up her hand and put his lips to it in a grand gesture of chivalry. “Am I to assume that you are actually here for breakfast?” “We are!” Sienna beamed as Skyler giggled and did not pull her hand back. She had spent enough time around non vulcans that she could tolerate the touch. “Sienna likes real pancakes with chocolate chips…” Skyler began. “Topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. And Skyler likes her pancakes made with buttermilk and blueberries, topped with maple syrup.” Sienna finished up. “Orange juice and one of my caffeine drinks and black coffee for Sky.” Sienna then looked towards T’Mur. T’Mur blinked, learning a great deal about both women, but especially Sienna. These two were clearly celebrating, so she thought she could at least gastronomically join in. “Might I have a yogurt and granola parfait.” She looked over at the expectant eyes of her companions. “With strawberries. And a glass of … orange juice as well.” Sam’s smile enlargened, if that was possible. “Absolutely. One CC cakes with the works. And a Canadian blueberry/buttermilk, and a Vulcan splurge, coming up.” T’Mur watched the man disappear behind the counter, “I am not entirely convinced that Sam is human. I am hypothesizing that he may be an android. He never seems to be tired and he is always here.” Sienna laughed, “Androids don’t have emotions and he does. And his file has plenty of the normal human kinds of mistakes on it. Nah, we stole him from Mars.” She was much happier than she normally would be in a morning. T’Mur could feel the joy from her mate. There was a warmth that she had not felt from her before. A lightness of thought that was new. She could appreciate the sensation. “Skylar,” she turned to the blonde woman, “what was Sienna like as a child?” Skyler smiled at T’Mur and initiated one of her favorite conversation topics, her mate. “She was precocious. Curious. Into everything. While Trip was taking things apart, Sy was outside. She was pretty into plants from a young age and I think you had your first real project at what age?” Sienna blushed, “Seven. I did a simple gene editing of flowers to make colors not found in nature. It won first prize at the science fair. Mom and Dad were ecstatic.” “Her love of chocolate was basically out of the womb. When she was a toddler she got into Mom’s imported Betazoid chocolate stash and ate the entire box. She was covered in chocolate smears and fruit fillings, and chortling in joy as she tried to get the second box out of the cabinet when Mom found her. T’Mur nodded, “I am very familiar with Sienna’s preoccupation with chocolate. She has tried to … addict me to it as well. So far unsuccessfully. Although I am getting an appreciation.” “She and Trip were inseparable until they started school, then they were always near but not joined at the hip. And they stood up for each other regardless of the issue, or who was right or wrong. She’s always hated physical exertion, unless it’s riding a horse.” “Horses are NOT exercise.” Sienna spoke, accepting her large dose of caffeine from Sam. “They are so!” Skyler laughed. “I left home when they were 6 or 7 to goto Vulcan for training but I was often home as Sol and Vulcan really aren’t that far apart. I was lucky that Saleke took me in, as he doesn’t have the prejudice most Vulcans possess about half-breeds.” “I have noticed the Captain’s acceptance of those that are not generally accepted,” T’Mur replied. “I am also aware of Sienna’s dislike for most physical activity. There are some activities that are very physically demanding that she excels at, however I’ve been told I shouldn’t talk about them.” There was a quiet “ahem” behind them as Sam arrived with the food. He placed each plate in front of each of the women. “The chocoholic breakfast delight for the Commander,” he said as he slid the plate in front of Sienna, “the classic for the classy lady,” he slid a plate in front of Skyler, “and the Vulcan breakfast special,” and he placed a glass cylinder in front of T’Mur. “Bon appétit ladies,” he said as he put the drinks in the middle of the table and stepped back. T’Mur picked up a spoon and dug it into the cylinder and began to eat. Sienna took the container of chocolate sprinkles and decorated her pancakes with it. Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. It was decadent and divine and she thrilled in the first few bites. Skyler was just watching her younger sister in amusement then glanced over towards T’Mur. ::She always does this when chocolate is involved. It’s like a sexual experience for her. I find it vaguely amusing to watch and a tad horrifying because she’s my sister.:: Skyler wasn’t sure if T’Mur could ‘hear’ her, but she figured she would try. T’Mur raised an eyebrow at the voice in her mind. Sienna had been the only person who’d been able to do that before. It was… intriguing. ::Indeed? A sexual experience? I am now curious. Although I am seeing the entertainment value of the experience. And I can sense her… arousal?:: Uncertain if Sienna could hear their conversation, and had the odd sensation that she was being unfaithful. She switched back to speaking, “And you say she has always been this way?” Skyler watched Sienna for a moment then nodded, “Yup.” “Yup what?” Sienna asked, taking a sip of her orange juice. “Your mate and I were discussing the love affair that you and chocolate have.” Skyler was trying to keep a straight face. “Oh. Well. She knew that going into the mating. Would have to share me with chocolate.” “I believe I may be losing that competition,” T’Mur said watching Sienna roll her eyes as she took in a mouthful of chocolate. ::You will never lose that competition. I would give up chocolate if necessary for you. I might miss it but you are worth all of the chocolate, anywhere. You are beautiful.:: Best thing about telepathy was that you could eat and still talk. Skyler let out a laugh, “Yeah you both got it bad, but I’m really glad for you Sis. I am. Kierin took my shift in science for me this morning so I could come over. He’s a good guy and I hope to drag him to the wedding.” T’Mur looked at Skyler then Sienna and shook her head, “Got it bad? What is it and why is it bad?” “Love, dearest.” Sienna spoke quietly. “It’s a human expression.” T’Mur shrugged her shoulders, “As I deduced. But I still do not know what it is.” Then in her mind she began to shine, ::But I think you are beautiful too, my rock star. And am gratified to know that you think I’m better than chocolate, even if it is just slightly.:: Sienna shook her head, “Do you know what the Hades is doing next?” Skyler mimicked Sienna’s shaking head perfectly. “Nope. Do what I’m told. Glad to be studying under a true Master like Admiral Saleke. Kierin’s pleased to be aboard as well. Well as pleased as a full blooded Vulcan acts outside his bondmate.” Skyler grinned and continued to eat her pancakes. “I do need to be back by 0800 though.” “Oh come on, Skyler! Don’t you have any curiosity about what you are doing next?” Skyler looked over her coffee cup at her much younger sister and prayed for patience with her. “I do and I don’t. Most of that wanderlust curiosity has gone into scientific research. That is what makes me happy these days, Sis.” “What are you currently researching, Skyler?” T’Mur asked. Skyler grinned for a moment then rattled off the DNA sequencing for the rare octopus that was on Trill and how she thought that it might hold the source of the symbiont virus. It was fairly boring stuff, and more a curiosity than anything else since Sienna had come up with the vaccine for the virus. As she wound down, Skyler stared at the pair, “It’s interesting to me. Who knows where the research will go. Everyone needs a hobby. Sienna’s is singing and rocking out on the stage though she plays classical flute really well. Mom said that even if we were fleet brats, we were going to be ‘well-rounded’ fleet brats.” Sienna groaned, “Sports, cultural events, music and art. Literature from all over the galaxy. She required us to pick a current language still being spoken and master it. Sky took Vulcan, I took Andorian, thinking that with them pulling out of the federation that it might be useful. And Trip..” Sienna laughed. “Trip studied traditional Betazoid. And I snuck in time with his lessons. I think maybe he picked it because he knew I’d want to learn it too.” “Intriguing,” T’Mur said. “It would be interesting to see the three of you together. I believe I would find the dynamic fascinating to observe.” She sighed, “I have no siblings to share such things with. I believe I will gain an appreciation for being a part of this … family.” She turned to Sienna, “If we have children will they also be brats?” “If we are so lucky.” Sienna spoke matter of factly then swatted her mate, “You really think I am a brat?” Sienna narrowed her eyes playfully at T’Mur ::You like when I’m a brat?:: ::A brat is defined as a badly behaved and annoying child. Maybe I do have an appreciation of some of your brat-like qualities. Should I punish you for them?:: ::Oh absolutely. Please do.:: Skyler looked between the two and laughed, “Yeah I know that look. You two go back to bed and I’ll go back to work. I love you both.” (reply none) (posted by Mel G and Al) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 2- VIP Quarters - SFI Michael Weston – 0605) After his talk with Quinna, Michael went back to his quarters. He was certain that now all of the excitement and partying was over, the ship would get back to business. He was certain that the captain would not have altered his schedule, and he needed to get to work, finding any information that put him in his current predicament. One of the strangest parts of becoming part of the ship was accepting the fact that he had been assigned a comm badge. He had refused to wear it unless he absolutely had to. He supposed that moment had come. He picked up the device and looked at suspiciously. The real issue was that his movements could be tracked while he was wearing it. At least he planned on being exactly where he was going. With a final sigh of resignation he attached the badge to his tunic and tapped it. “Weston to Captain Sekal,” he said, as if he were a child asking permission to go to an entertainment center. (reply Sekal) “Captain, I was hoping that I would have some time to root through the facility on Sigma Draconis, to see what I might dig up about who the Orions were working with.” (reply Sekal) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Quarters - Acting Chief Science Officer Ensign T'shalaith - 0800) Her morning meditations had been scattered and she was having a challenging time identifying the root of the cause. She was still young for a Vulcan and despite the mastery of her emotions, it was far from perfect. When she had entered Starfleet Academy there had been moments where her mind was given to distraction, and she had to employ something that would have resembled blunt force trauma in the physical sense...only she had done it mentally. It hadn’t been perfect and four years later she was still navigating moments where her meditation only could do so much. It had been a few months since her last wandering of the mind, and she was now sitting in her living area with the lights off and windows darkened as she took control of her breathing. Fifteen minutes later, she was still having mild disturbances in her control patterns. She chewed on her bottom lip. It had been nearly a year since she’d used the technique that always worked. Silently she went to the last container and began to unpack the items in question. It took her another half hour to install the custom-built holo emitters and an additional fifteen minutes to mount and run a system diagnosis on the programming control unit she had also built. She retrieved the program chip from a locked case in the container and slowly instated it into the control unit. It beeped. And whirred. A blue figure sprang into view and slowly coalesced into the figure of her father, Sath. He looked around carefully, his eyes searching the room. The color of his clothes normalized as he turned to see his daughter. He granted her a nod, “It is well to see you again, T'shalaith. You do not call upon me unless it is absolutely necessary.” He gave her a long look. She knew this look from the time he had been alive. It was a thinking look. It was also a look that evidenced the control unit was accessing the records she regularly uploaded as she went along. It included her logs, her experiences, her supplemental logs, journal submissions, and anything she had wrote, thought or said. It was exhaustive and necessary. “I...am having trouble with my focus and emotions, father.” “I sensed that, daughter. You are troubled.” T'shalaith had taken this project on as a personal mission to push the limits of hologram technology. She had installed a small sensor package that was allowed to scan only her physiological readings. It was necessary as her father had been able to sense things beyond touch, and it was a quality she had felt faintly in her life, but never to the extent or power of her father. “There is a creature on board this ship. She asked me a question. I was unable to answer it.” The Sath facsimile raised an eyebrow. “Your failed bond mate.” T'shalaith frowned with both brows. The knowledge of her failed bond mate was limited to her late father and her estranged mother. Not even her human friend Teresa had been trusted with it. “It is unusual to have experienced such an event.” Her father dropped his eyebrow, “It is not unheard of in Vulcan society. Unusual perhaps. You have not gone back to try again?” She gave him a quiet glance, “You are all too aware of my travels, assignments, and postings.” A sigh from Sath. His emotional control had been manually programmed by T'shalaith in accordance with his personality and behavior. As hard as he had trained his daughter in control, there were times where he openly expressed his emotions to her and others. She took solace in that these behaviors took place in the years of the disease that eventually took him away. “You are as stubborn as she was.” She noted that her father - hologram or real - would have declared her mother dead the moment she abandoned logic and the Vulcan culture she had come from. Her mother’s location was still unknown, but she was very much alive. “I am concerned my Pon Farr is a year early.” His face almost winced. He had never been good with her in this area. He had relied heavily on his wife to help guide her through the experiences as they came. He shook his head, “I do not believe this to be the case. I think the creature...”, he searched the databanks T'shalaith had curated, “...Luma has asked you a question that you logically are unable to answer and it has taken seed deep in your mind and grown rather quickly...and you cannot weed this plant of truth out. It demands your attention and your answer, daughter.” “And if I do not desire to confront this truth?” She did not look at him but choose the carpet to investigate with her gaze. Her facsimile father shrugged his shoulders. “I expect that this will destroy the heavily constructed walls and facades you have spent the last thirty-four years building with precise care and thought.” She sighed, and felt shame at the emotion that had slipped out of her, “I will lose all control, and will be removed from this posting being unable to control my emotional state.” “This is the logical conclusion, daughter. You must reconcile the failure. Accept it. Begin the search for a new bond-mate.” “You did not mention searching for Sertak to restore the bond.” She finally looked to him, finding the omission odd. “Sertak is dead, daughter. You must forgive this program you created. I reached out and found an avenue to search for him. He’s been gone four years. You must pursue another.” T'shalaith blinked. Twice. “You...went against your programming?” “You did not forbid this program from finding ways.” “I will correct that. It was agreeable to speak to you again, father. I will speak to you soon.” There was a quiet smile that she felt both hope and horror in seeing on his holographic face. “It was agreeable for me as well. Live long and prosper, T'shalaith. I will see you again.” “Computer, save program and end.” The holograph flickered and was gone, leaving T'shalaith in the silent and dark room. His advice was logical. And she did not enjoy it. The two spoke in hushed tones for a few minutes. Their conversation finished, Gregory turned to the command chair, “Sir,” he said, “If you have a moment, I would like to speak to you about a proposal.” The time was moving slowly so the Vulcan was deep in consideration of coming events. The Hades would be warping out in four hours followed by Illuminar. The delay was due to the continuing data dump from the marauder base, once it was completed he had been given permission to depart. He looked up at Dieter with his head cocked slightly to the right. "A proposal? What would that be, Mister Gregory?" “If you don’t mind sir, can we speak in private?” Sekal nodded and led the way to his office. Once in the Captain’s Ready Room, Gregory began. “Sir, in less than 2 weeks, we’ve had an assassination attempt on your life, been in two major space battles and one ground offensive. During the first battle, where the pirates' missile technology was deployed, there was a point where Commander Verin was considering shipping Luma off on the Hillary to protect her from damage or capture.” He paused, “When Mr. Bohb came aboard, I asked him to continue the investigation into the reason Luma’s crystal cracked as we were reintegrating her into the Illuminar. I will be checking on his progress later today.” “Circling back to the problem, which is to ensure, in the event of a catastrophic event on the Illuminar, how to get her to safety. The logical solution is to find a way to repurpose the Hillary, at least in part, to be the safety valve. Building out some systems to allow for rapid transfer of Luma from here to there, while beefing up the Hillary’s defensive and warp capabilities. Truth be told, I’d outfit the Hillary with a cloaking device.” Gregory paused. “And once done, work on drills to ensure the systems worked well and the crew could execute in an expeditious fashion.” The Captain stepped to the porthole and looked out as he considered the words of his second officer. This was not a subject easily dismissed but there were a number of factors to consider. The planet loomed large to the left while Sigma Draconis itself burned brightly to the right. "Wholesale changes to the Hillary are neither quickly nor easily accomplished Mr. Gregory as it is not just a simple matter of switching out an engine, StarFleet mandates must be considered as well." He turned. "Due to the rare nature of the crystals which we theorize were formed by an interstellar cataclysm in near contact with a subspace anomaly the decision was made that only ships of the line would be outfitted with the new engine. As you know shuttlecraft and fighters use the older dilithium crystal design… it is a proven technology and dilithium is far more abundant in comparison." He moved to the sideboard and leaned against it. "And should it be approved a new engine would have to be designed. Arguably it would be a simple process but after manufacture and installation the design of the electro plasma delivery system and power couplings and shunts would have to be changed as well, not unlike the redesign process undertaken on the Republic and Hades. Including design and manufacture of the engines, reworking of the power delivery systems plus upgrades would be a minimum of six months if it were approved. And considering the size of the Hillary it would be more logical to replace rather than refit it since construction of a new vessel could be accomplished in 85% of the time needed for a complete refit. Gaining approval for such a drive change is not assured. Transfer of Luma to the Aeroshuttle in itself is not an issue and will be rectified shortly. I have been considering an alternative delivery system should the Anelurian crystals no longer be a viable alternative." “I understand Sir,” Gregory replied, “Which is why the idea of providing a cloaking device for the Hillary might be a better option. Of course that means we either take the cloaking device recovered from the Klingon ship, or find another. Which in and of itself is its own issue.” Pausing again, “We are a science and exploration vessel first and foremost. However, as we get out of the comfortable confines of federation member space, or previous member space, I suspect it’ll get rougher. A more immediate solution would be to request the addition of fighters. With some effort, we could fit two, or perhaps 3 of the new fighters on the Illuminar. Of course, we’d need to request the addition of a couple of pilots as well. In that scenario, we would increase our fire power, and be able to project force more efficiently. Further, if Luma had to bug out, a fighter escort would give them more of a chance,” Gregory added. The Vulcan considered that thought for a moment. "What you say is logical. One type 9, a type 8 and 3 fighters could be housed in the main shuttlebay at minimum and the workbees and backup shuttlecraft in bay 2. I will forward a formal request to command. On the issue of cloaking the Hillary…," he looked at the far wall as he considered the permutations before looking back, "...the cloak we took from the Klingon ship would not be adaptable but one could be fabricated here on the ship that will do. Have engineering begin the process. Is there anything else?" Gregory shook his head, “No Sir. Thank you sir,” he said. "They are, needless to say, proud to be in Operations, and to be working under you. The Gamma shift could use some love though. I need you to lead a team to build a new cloaking device specifically for the Hillary. She started to read the report and noted that there many still had mandatory counseling to do. With a counselor down, Quinna thought she could put on her counseling hat and pitch in to get them done. She opened a message to Alaya Hammons as she did not want to interrupt any secessions. “How are the evals going. We lost Reea, so if you can get me a list of who still needs counseling? I will be happy to work with you to get them done. She beamed with a smile and motion to sit next to her. “Mason, I am glad to see you.” She reached over for a hug when he pulled away. “Why are you acting as nothing happened?” Mason asked. “You have been nothing but a bwitch to me and many of your friends and you want to give me a hug?” Quinna bit her lower lip, “You're right, I am sorry. Well, I really am not sorry but you deserve an explanation. All I can say is that I was doing a special project for Starfleet and I cannot tell the details.” “I don't buy it. You’re a Doctor, not a ….a...whatever you were doing.” Mason exclaimed. “It is a part of Starfleet. As an officer, I could be called to do any sort of duty. I am not going to let anything get in the way of my duty.” Quinna said and then added, “I hope you can respect that.” “I can respect that, but I do not have to understand why it had to be you.” Mason said, “I will let it go this time. I saw what happened to the other guy. Was that Weston's doing?” “No, it was mine. I had to do what I did to stay alive.” Mason shook his head, “There was a reason the family did not want you to join Starfleet. Remember that.” Mason said as he left the room. Quinna was once again alone in Sickbay. She took advantage to send messages to the crew about mandatory physicals. Afterward, she looked to her left and right and then stood herself and went to storage room 2. She sat on the floor and moved a stack of tricorders. She reached back to find her treasure box. T'Mur, and 3XO CMO Lt. Quinna Solice 1820) Quinna paced back and forth in her Quarters. She had to make up with people but First and foremost she needed to make up with Sienna and T’Mur. She thought about going to the Prancing Pony, but she did not want to go through any public displays. Then she thought about going to their quarters, but there were not any good memories there at this point. Quinna decided to send out an invite to them to join her in her quarters. She decided to make a full ado about it. A full pasta bar. She even had Italian-style wine produced on Altair if they wanted it. Quinna was not drinking. She did not have the taste for it. All she needed to do was wait for them to show. If they showed. T’Mur had received the invitation Quinna had sent for them to join her at her quarters. It was the first sign of friendship that had been offered by the doctor since she had gone undercover with the SFI operative Michael Weston. She told Sienna to get dressed and drug her out the door to go to the meet-up. Sienna quietly came with T’Mur, looking up at her beloved, “Is this going to go well?” She asked T’Mur, needing the confirmation of her bondmate and the safety that if this went badly, she would not be alone any longer. “Everything will be fine,” T’Mur reassured her mate for the third time. “I am confident that Quinna would not have called for us to meet if she were going to deliver bad news.” T’Mur put her hand on the door chime and waited for the door to open. “Enter,” Quinna called out as she emerged from the bathroom. She wanted to make sure she was not in uniform. So she wore her civilian clothing. “I am glad you two came.” T'Mur raised an eyebrow. First of all, Quinna was not in uniform. She was wearing an outfit that she had purchased on Vulcan with her father. A light and flowing top covering tight leggings. It was a rare occasion for Quinna to dress in anything other than her medical clothing. The second surprise was the fact that she immediately went to the conversation that she wanted to have. T’Mur had often noted the human desire for “small talk” and stalling procedures before getting too uncomfortable conversations. Not today. She could already feel the tension in Sienna. Quinna motioned for them to sit. She had all sorts of food laid out. She wanted to make sure that everyone was comfortable. She herself sat but did not get anything to eat or drink. Her stomach was already in knots about this meeting. Alaya reminded Quinna she needed to do this, but it was hard. T’Mur sat on the small sofa, and Sienna sat next to her, their legs touching. She could feel her need to draw strength before Quinna started to speak. “It seems like it has been forever since we got together,” Quinna said. T’Mur nodded, “Time is often suggestive and passes in relative comparison to a person’s perspective. I find the relativity of time to be fascinating.” Sienna poked T’Mur in the ribs, refocusing the Vulcan. “Of course we can discuss that later. We are glad that you invited us.” Sienna was curled up beside T’Mur, ignoring the food she had collected for the moment. She decided to take the initiative, “I’ve made no bones about the fact that I thought you didn’t belong in an intelligence op, Quinna. And I should apologize. My brain thinks like the First Officer first, then the friend second. I was mad at Sekal for letting you do this. I do not know if you know, but my Dad, the Academy Admiral, brought his flagship to the Illuminar when Trip and the Exeter were missing. Between my Dad and Sekal, they maneuvered me into a corner that the only way out of was to resign my commission. So, I had to choose between my family and my career, and it was difficult for me to do. I’m still not sure that I made the correct choice, even though the Exeter’s no longer missing. So I get it, I think. Why you thought you had to do this. But... But... You are not trained in this mess. That’s why I’m initiating the self-defense classes for us. I don’t know that you will ever get a chance to do something so damned dangerous again. But if you do, then dammit Quinna I’m not going to feel this helpless again! You will be able to protect yourself. You could have so easily been killed, Quinna.” Sienna’s emotions were raw and painful and she closed her eyes, reinforcing her telepathic shielding so she would no longer be projecting. “Sienna, I know you worried for me. The same arguments you make are the same I heard when I joined Starfleet. The sad truth is any of us could be called up for special missions. This one fell in my lap. I did not go out looking for it.” Quinna said, “I have no ambition to change my assignment from Medical to Intelligence, but if it happens again…” Quinna trailed off to let Sienna and T’Mur fill in the blank. T’Mur nodded, “You feel the desire to do what you can to protect the Federation… and the ship. I, of all people, can understand that.” “So, anything else you need to know, or can we discuss something else?” Quinna asked not only to want to change the topic but discuss something more pleasant. Sienna shook her head and applied herself to the food that Quinna had prepared. “Nothing but time is going to rebuild what we’ve lost, so time it is. If you want me, I’m still your friend. I wouldn’t want to punch that Weston so much if I wasn’t.” Sy finally admitted. “In other news… T and I had briefly talked about having children. Any suggestions on how we can do that? I figure with a twin who happens to be a guy that would be the easiest way, but how do I approach him? Yo, Trip can I have some of your swimmers to make some babies with my beloved mate?” Yeah. Sienna was deliberately changing the subject to the most off-beat thing that she could think of that would help change Quinna’s mind to something positive and challenging. “Babies huh? Oh wow. Babies.” Quinna’s mind was trying again. “That is a heavy subject. There is a lot to consider.” Quinna lets out a deep breath, “Umm baby. What about the wedding?” Quinna had to think. A baby would not be easy even if they had Trip’s little swimmers. T’Mur would have to be the one pregnant. It would be more natural. With T’Mur being overly protective, well there were things to talk about. “We still have much to consider,” T’Mur spoke up. “This is not an imminent endeavor. The wedding will have our top priority. But as we look into the future it would be logical to explore the avenues of our plans beforehand. It is both of our desires to have children. Sienna… we are just looking at the possibilities.” “Perhaps when you see Sienna’s Brother, you can discuss thoughts about the future.” Quinna encouraged. “It is something we can look into. Many things to discuss. But what about the wedding? How are those plans?” Quinna was relieved to get the topics away from her. “We have not had time to really plan out the event, beyond informing the family of the imminent event. My father has asked to participate as…” she looked at Quinna for the correct term, “ father of the bride? A position for which he is qualified. Will there be two fathers of the brides? And two maids of honor? Perhaps we need to invite Quinna as a role? She could be my maid of honor.” Sienna laughed, “If that is what you wish, then indeed Quinna can be your maiden of honor. Skyler wants to be mine and Alaya wants to be one of our bridesmaids. And Luma wants to attend, of course. I’m not sure how we will pull that off without the crystal or Vex. Maybe whoever is going to be her new bondmate would, ah, play along with us so she can attend.” Sienna stretched, putting the plate that once held spaghetti down beside her. It was empty, and she had loved it. “I need your spaghetti recipe, Quinna. It was fabulous.” Quinna smiled. She had not eaten anything on her plate. “I am afraid that’s need to know information. I think of it as job security. If I do not tell, then you will still need me.” Though she took a page out of Michael’s book for the marinara sauce, the alfredo was all her own. “Of course we still need you, Quinna. Don’t be silly.” Sienna patted Quinna’s hand as she thought for a moment. “Look into the literature about this? I know there have been a lot of hybrid children born, and my mother had a Betazoid/Vulcan daughter. I’ve got a lot of questions and my brain just will not shut up on the subject. It’s not like we are going to be thinking about having a child in the next year or two, but I just want to make sure it can happen. Dreams, ya know?” “I will definitely do my homework.” Quinna said, “But there is still a lot more to think about. But it will be a cute baby. And well-loved.” Quinna took a drink of water, “Let's get you two married first.” (Replies None) (posted by: Mel B., Al M., and Kris B.) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Personal Quarters -- 3XO/CMO Lt. However, she was part of the conspiracy to tear the Federation apart and that didn’t sit well with him. A more aggressive Star Fleet was not in the best interest of everyone. Still Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who watches the watchers. She had taken her locket and started to watch it swing back and forth on the chain. “When Luma brought me in the other day, What happened to you?” Quinna watched Dieter get the key, “You seemed to be in another world.” Gregory retrieved the key from his personal safe and joined Quinna. Sitting next to her, he placed the key on the table. “I am not sure you would believe me. Heck, I don’t believe myself either. Long story short, I was taking a couple days on Bajor to do some climbing and this giant of a Bajorian looked at me and said ‘It is happening again’, well I gave him a wide berth and went about my way. Problem was that I’ve seen this fellow several times now - on the Station and on the ship. When you found me, I was seeing him again. Maybe I should have my head examined.” Quinna took the necklace and into her hand and let the chain fall, “I wonder what he meant by, ‘It is happening again?’” Quinna handed him the locket, “Here, you should do the honors.” Gregory held up his hand. “No, Quinna, I believe this is part of your journey. I am just a conduit for that, and happy to do it.” “Our journey,” Quinna took the key and inserted the key. She closed her eyes. She turned the key and the locket cracked open. She looked at Dieter with bated breath and she moved her hand closer to him so he could see what was inside. She slowly opened the locket. A tear fell down her eye as the anticipation came to a climax. (Reply none) (Posted by Kris and Tim) DAY 12>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 3 - Gregory’s quarters - 2/O LCDR Dieter Gregory and 3/O CMO Lt Quinna Solice - 0001) Time seemed to stand still as Quinna inserted the key into the locket. As she turned the key, the locket cracked open a bit, spilling a teal-colored light into the room. Turning the key more, and the locket opened in half. Sitting in the locket was what could be described as a small marble, with a chip out of it. It glowed a purplish light, which filled the room. Gregory looked at Quinna and went back to the locket. The small crystal on the key was also glowing teal, but with streaks of red as well. “Huh.” Gregory said. Quinna looked at it. “ Is that what I think that is?” Quinna wondered, “It is not an orb, but it looks like one.” Gregory stared at the fractured globe. Peering into it, he thought he could see white swirls moving inside the crystal. Grabbing a tricorder, he began to scan the crystal. “There is a story of a fragment of an orb used in a small Bajoran village. It’s embedded in a bracelet.” He looked at the tricorder readings, “At first glance, this is emitting particles similar to an orb. I’d have to do more of an analysis to confirm. However, the color is not one that has been reported as emitted by the known orbs.” Quinna moved to touch it and then stopped. When they were on Bajor she hoped for an orb experience but did not get one. Not even when she personally took care of the Kai. At that moment she decided not to touch it. Quinna placed the locket into Dieter’s hands. She was scared to hold it at this point. She stood and walked a bit. “It is curious,” Quinna turned to see Dieter sitting on the couch. “What are you thinking?” Gregory looked at the crystal again, “It is very curious,” he said. “And somewhat alarming. How it got into the locket. How the fragment was attached to the key. The manner of discovery of both. The universe is in a constant state of chaos.” Gregory reached his finger out to touch the object. It was cool and very smooth. The color changed from Teal to an angry red. Moments later there was the sound of electricity and the smell of ozone in the room as Gregory yelped and pulled back his finger. “I don’t think it liked that.” Quinna could feel the heat. She moved back to Dieter and noticed some unusual views. “Dieter, look around.” Quinna sat next to Dieter. It was getting harder to breathe. She looked at the orb. “It is not complete.” Gregory started looking around as well. He felt his lungs burning from the ozone as if the crystal kept generating the gas after he touched it. As he looked around, he noticed that it felt like he was in a planetarium of yore where stars were projected onto a curved wall. He tried to get his bearings, but couldn’t find any specific markers, what planet the sky was being displayed from. He did notice a pulsing line moving from some stars. “Look around. It is a … map.” Quinna said she took the locket and closed it. The surroundings disappeared. “Umm….” As Quinna closed the locket, the view vanished, as did the ozone. He coughed a few times to clear his lungs before taking a deep breath of ozone-free air. “Indeed, a map. But to where, and starting from where?” he asked. “We’re going to have to get a better view of that map if we have any chance of following the map. But why? And Why us? Where does it lead? “ He looked deep into Quinna’s eyes, “I’m not crazy am I?” “No. If you are crazy then, I am too.” Quinna thought for a moment. “I wonder if...Now with me for a second, What if we open it up again in the holodeck. Maybe the computer can extrapolate the images so we can explore the area.” Quinna suggested. She then looked at the locket and then back at Dieter. “No one can know about this.” And there was Quinna’s spy side coming out. “OK, we have two crazy people with an unknown artifact of some power with a treasure map to someplace unknown. I don’t think I want to tell anyone anyway as they will lock us up for being crazy, or worse yet sit us in a room and have telepaths read our minds.” Gregory said. “Definitely keeping it secret.” Gregory rubbed his forehead, “That is probably the best idea. We may want to get some breathing gear as well, as that ozone or whatever it was burning my lungs pretty bad. “Gear would not be a bad idea. Quinna cleared her throat. “We were able to breathe but My throat feels raw. I keep a medkit in my quarters. I can treat you there if we want to keep it out of sickbay. We also need to keep the key and locket apart. When we are not together.” “I can keep the key in the safe here. You have a safe in your room as well, so that is a start,” Gregory said. “Not a lot of people know about either, so I doubt people will go looking. Then again, I didn’t think there would-be assassins on the ship either.” He shrugged. Something just hit Quinna. “The Locket was meant for my mother. She gave it to me before we were sent off to live with my grandmother. She kept the key. How did you get it?” “There was an explosion on Deep Space Nine. We had been getting bombarded with omicron radiation coming from the Denorios belt. Anyway, one of the pulses passed through the station and the Bajoran temple there. The next thing that happened was an explosion in Quarks bar, due in part to the shortcuts that had been taken. Anyway, there was this Bajoran there that I rescued. He gave me the key and told me to keep it safe and keep it secret. He later died. Oddly he was not in any of the Bajoran databases. A couple of days later some people claiming to be related showed up looking for something. “The Denorious belt, that area has been and relatively still remains mostly unexplored,” Quinna said. “I wonder…” Quinna started but Quinna then paused, “...If there is any place in the Denorious belt that had these environmental conditions,” Quinna Questioned. “That is an interesting question. We’ll need to better capture that map. I will see about reserving the holodeck in the coming days to start our research.” Gregory paused, “It is late, probably time to get to bed, as I know you’ll be standing shift with the Captain on the bridge.” “0500 will come faster than I think.” Quinna took the locket and gave the key back to Dieter. She turned and gave him a hug and then left back to her quarters. (Reply none) (Posted by Kris and Tim) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Luminar -- Deck 2 -- 3XO/CMO Lt. Quinna Solice -- 0101) Quinna left Dieter’s Quarter. It was indeed late and she had to be up, but how could she sleep now? She paced the corridor for deck 2. She walked to Michael’s quarters and stopped at the door. She wanted to talk to him badly about what he knew. She turned and walked away. She did not want to bother him. She continued to pace. She thought of that day on Deep Space 9. Her mother had put Quinna’s Go bag on Little Quinna’s back. She took her locket off and put it around Quinna’s neck. Her mother said that she would keep the key. It was a promise because the Locket needed the Key. While Quinna thought about it, she found herself in front of Sienna and Timur's Quarters. She was not going to disturb them. The Pacing continues. Her father held her tight. Normally he would make her walk but this time he carried her. She remembered his face being moist. She asked her daddy if he was crying. But he only held her tighter. The four of them arrived at the docking ring with other Starfleet personnel and children. Quinna stopped pacing again and found herself at Michael’s door. Quinna remembers screaming. She had been begging her parents not to send her away. She loved the mission and the adventures. She remembered her mother telling her brother to keep ahold of his Queenie’s hand. The crew of the starship loaded the kids onto the ship and that was the last time she ever saw her mom and dad. Quinna had stopped and found herself outside of Sienna’s and Timur's Quarters. Without ringing the chime, Quinna left. She went to her quarters and entered. She laid down on her bed fully clothed. She covered her eyes with her hands as she could do nothing but cry until she fell asleep. (Reply none) (Posted by Kris) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 11 - Engineering Lab -- EO Ensign Bohb, 2O/Ops Lt Commander Dieter Gregory- 1000) Bohb finally had time to work on some of his personal projects. The top priority of these projects was the work he had been doing with the anelurian crystal. His research had sent him down a path that he had not expected and was a little stuck. The last time he ran this experiment it had an … unsatisfactory result. He looked down at the blue liquified crystal in the charged container. He had found the way to create an LC container that was capable of withstanding the power transfer of a magnitude of a life form… of Luma’s life form. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a harmonic resonance issue that, shall we say, dramatically fails at the time of the transfer. He was convinced of the device, and had created a liquid crystal form of the anelurian crystal. But the power transfer was the problem. He was missing something, and he didn’t like it one bit. On top of that, keeping it a secret from Luma was becoming increasingly difficult. She knew he was up to something, and was beginning to become slightly suspicious of his activities. It would probably have been easier to simply tell Luma what he was doing, but he had the urge to surprise her. Curious to how Mr. Bohb’s research was going into the cause of the crystal fracture, Gregory checked with the computer to locate him. Heading down to the Engineering lab, he hoped there was a solution. The doors to the Engineering lab opened, and the second officer walked in. There he saw the engineering officer looking at a container. “Hello Mr. Bohb,” Gregory said. “I was hoping for an update on the status on your investigation into the fracture of the Anelurian crystal.” Bohb had been so focused on what he was doing he didn’t hear the door open to the lab. When he heard Gregory’s voice he nearly jumped over the work station. Grabbing his chest in a pretend heart attack he turned and smiled at the 2nd officer. “Sweet holy…, Lt. Commander, you nearly gave me a coronary.” He then went over to the man and grabbed both his shoulders. “Well you don’t seem any worse for the wear from you Wetting Down. I am certain the young lady that got you out of your wet clothes did an adequate job of helping you recover.” Gregory chuckled, “A gentleman never kisses and tells, Mr. Bohb. But you can rest assured I was out of the wet clothing so I didn’t catch my death of cold.” “I came down to check on the current status of the Anelurian Crystal problem and why it fractured. Solving that has become a bit more pressing, in my opinion, since the most recent spate of issues we’ve had. Have you made progress? Do you need additional resources?” Bohb nodded, “Indeed, I have had the same concerns, so I’ve spent most of my free time on this project. The cause of the crystal fracturing was simple. Stress. The transfer of Luma’s energy from the crystal to another location and back creates a high level of neurobioelectric energy, compressed into a small space. The fracture was inevitable, under any circumstances. The anelurian crystal, as you know, has a more direct relay to subspace. That’s what makes it superior to dilithium, where the subspace connection has to be forced.” He looked from Gregory to the table top and turned to his experiment, “So, in order to relieve some of that stress I have… created a liquid crystal form of the anelurian crystal. It relieves the stress of the solid form so shattering will not be an issue. However, the container has given me some… problems.” He indicated to the stains on the table… and the wall… and the ceiling…. and his uniform. Gregory looked around, “Ah, I see that. Well you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs,” he said. “That is a clever solution, I have to admit. Tell me more about this container.” Bob nodded and chuckle, “Why am I suddenly hungry? Anyway, I’ve been using a transparent aluminium polymer for the container, charged to create the crystal alignment. It seemed, to borrow a phrase from our Vulcan contingent, the most logical, since aluminium does not have a natural charge. It’s all in the power transfer and the harmonic resonance. Here, I can share my data on the trials I’ve done so far. At this point I’ll take anyone’s advice, even Cadet Taylor.” He pulled out a PADD and downloaded the data onto it, then handed the PADD to Gregory. “That will show you the harmonic levels I’ve been using so far.” Gregory took the PADD and began to review the data. “It will take me a bit to sort these out, so perhaps you should get some food and take a break. Have you considered reaching out to Science and see if they have someone who might be able to help you?” “To be honest,” Bohb replied, “this is a personal project for me. But I’ve seemed to reach an impasse between my knowledge and my research. Is there anyone you’d recommend?” “I would have to check with our new assistant chief of science. Unfortunately, she’s really new to the ship. Best I can recommend is those two new scientists we took aboard Drs. Penn and Teller. They have taken over Science Lab 3, if you want to loop them in.” “Well then, that sounds like the next order of business,” Bohb said. “Penn and Teller? Sounds like a lounge act. I haven’t met them yet. Guess it’s time to mingle. Care to tag along?” “Since I have not actually met them yet, this is as good a time as any.” Gregory replied. Bohb smiled and started walking towards the exit, “Then let’s go talk to Penn and Teller.” (Reply None) (Posted by Al and Tim) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DAY 13>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 5- Sickbay-CMO/3O Lt.Quinna Solice & SFI Michael Weston – 1600) Michael walked into sickbay with a purpose. Everyone was getting ready for shore leave but he knew exactly where he would find Quinna. It was almost as though she’d been avoiding him. When they were together it was like she had something to say to him, but just wouldn’t say it. And he did not want to press the issue. They were still repairing their relationship from the mission. Sure enough, there was Quinna, sitting in her office, most likely looking at some medical scans or setting up a series of regulation required physicals. But they were orbiting Betazed and she, of all people, needed the down time. He walked into the office and stood with his arms crossed, looking at her accusingly. Quinna was working on reports. The only thing she noticed was the bottom of her coffee cup. From her desk she called for a coffee from the replicator that was already to her specification. It was not until she stood did she notice Michael. She jumped as he had startled her. “Hi.” she crossed the room to him. “How long have you been standing there?’ She asked as she stopped in front of him. “Long enough to wonder just what you think you are doing,” he said, eyeing her. “The ordered shore leave was not so you could get caught up on paperwork.” Quinna had a disappointed look on her face, “Oh..I can’t go.” Quinna said, “I had a counselor leave that did not file any patient reports. I am trying to get it done since I have not been invited to go anywhere.” Michael shook his head, “Nope, not good enough. If you need an invitation to go somewhere with me then I have not been doing good enough.” He went over to the desk and shut down the display on the computer, “Go get your stuff, we have a date. Have you ever seen Lake Cataria. I’m told it’s amazing. It’s at the base of the Cataran Mountains, and I’ve been told that there might be some interesting places to explore.” “Your temptations are working on me.” Quinna said, “Well looks like I need to get ready for my date then. But I need to talk to you first.” Quinna thought for a moment. She took the opportunity to do something she had been wanting to do for a while. She put her hands on his chest. With a gentle shove, she pushed him on the couch and leaned over to kiss him. Afterwards she stood up. “Ok. We are good for now.” Michael closed his eyes and enjoyed the moment. When they separated he opened his eyes and smiled, “Alrighty then. I’ll just need a moment to compose myself.” Then he stood up. “I was thinking of a little picnic on the lake, and then some exploring,” he announced. “So you might want to bring a swimsuit, unless you care to go for the native tradition of swimming in the buff. Which I am not opposed to.” “Oh so tempting. But… I will meet you in the transporter in 20 minutes. Think you can wait 20 minutes?” Quinna said as she moved to the door. Michael sighed heavily, “I suppose.” Then he smiled. “Go, get what you need. If you’re longer than 20 minutes I’ll track you down and carry you out of here.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 4- Transporter Room 2 - CMO/3O Lt.Quinna Solice & SFI Michael Weston – 1620) So Quinna was a bit early. She waited for Michael. Wore knee length navy Capris and a sleeveless Floral wrap blouse that crossed her chest perfectly. Underneath She did have her swimsuit on. It was a teal one piece. It was not an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini but it did what it needed to do. Quinna really did not have anything sexy to wear. Michael strode in through the opening doorway and smiled when he saw Quinna. “I thought for sure I was going to have to come looking for you. You look like a lady going on vacation.” He was wearing cargo shorts and a dark blue button up shirt that was only halfway buttoned. He was also carrying a backpack with a few rolls of materials. He also wore some thick soles shoes. “Are you ready milady?” he asked, offering his hand to help her to the transporter pad. Quinna took Michael's hand, “My Lord.” Then she thought about how corney they just sounded. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Betazed - Kharzad- Lake Cataria - CMO/3O Lt.Quinna Solice & SFI Michael Weston - 1625) The transport pad was the only modern convenience that they could see when they rematerialized. The rest was lush greener and tall trees. In the background we’re the Catarina Mountains. Although to Michael they only resemblance to mountains was that they were the highest point of the area and they were rocky. But they were not very high. Although not as majestic as he had thought, they were painted against a blue sky with pink clouds floating above them. It was spectacular. “Spectacular, Is it me or are the colors more vivid on Betazed?” Quinna looked around and looked at the lake. The calm waters were inviting. Quinna moved a bit as she wanted to find a place to sit. Apparently she was hungry. “So. What do you have to eat?” Quinna asked when she turned back to face Michael. Her smile beamed from ear to ear as she was excited to be off the ship. Michael got slightly lost in the look of pure joy in her face. “Ummm… yeah, it’s because of the crystal formations in the rocks. It detracts the light and gives of those colors.” He began to walk down a path towards the lake, looking for a good spot to eat. He talked as he walked. “Lunch today will, hopefully be something different,” he said. “I don’t see it being served in starships too often. I’m sure there’s a reason. But then again, I’ve only been on a starship for a couple of weeks.” They made it to the edge of the lake after about ten minutes and he found a spot that looked across the lake to the mountains. “This looks like a great spot.” He dropped the backpack and opened it. Like a magician he pulled out a red and white checkered cloth, and opened it over the ground. He offers his hand to Quinna and led her to a place to sit. Then he sat down beside her and put the bag on the other side. Reaching in again he pulled out a 12x4 container and put it down. Next he pulled out a round container and put that beside it. Finally he drew out a smaller 4x4 container and put the backpack behind them. His final act was to extract a couple of plates and utensils. He looked at Quinna’s face as he opened the lid to the first container. “I hope you like fried chicken”. Then he looked at it questioningly. “At least it should be chicken. And we have,” the round container lid popped off, “potato salad. And finally, no picnic is complete without… watermelon.” Quinna looked at Michael, “You have thought of everything. You spoil me.” It occurred to Quinna that she had not done anything for Michael. He seemed to be doing for her. “You have made everything about me. But I want to know more about you.” Quinna put a little of everything on her plate. Michael pondered that for a moment and realized his life was a bit more secretive than hers. He nodded. “Today is a get to know you day. What would you like to know?” Quinna wanted to be on an equal standing. “What was your life like when you became ‘Secret Agent Man’? Any family?” Quinna started. “Parents, siblings, wife or kids of any sort?” Michael laughed, “No wife or kids, sorry, no such kind of drama there. Most of my relationships over the past 10 years have been mission related. My dad was in the MEF at the time of the fall of the Federation, and died in the ensuing rioting. So it’s just been me. My mom and my little brother for the last twenty years. I was a bit of a handful as a teenager but I was recruited by Mars Defense Force and was trained for Special Ops, and then I was recruited to SFI after a SpecOps mission, that I can’t really tell you about, but let’s leave it by saying I received a citation and many people are still alive because of my team’s actions. David, my brother, did not follow the same path. He’s a businessman. But we don’t talk much, so I can’t really say how he’s doing past the fact that I know he is still alive. As for Mama Weston,” he chuckled, “she’s a strong woman, she had to be to raise me.” He took a big bite of a chicken drumstick, savoring its flavor and looked at Quinna. After he swallowed he said, “My turn. Quid pro quo. What else does Quinna do besides save lives? Do you have any hobbies or things you’d like to do?” “Oh me. Well there is this whole undercover thing just recently. I am pretty much all over the place. I have tried many things. I personally enjoy a hidden pleasure with Romance Novels. Juicy Romance novels.” Michael gave a wry smile, “Really? Do you read the classics? Jacqueline Susan, or Harrold Robbins? Or are you more interested in EL Lewis?” “Actually, I prefer the unknown authors. Mostly, I guess you can better describe what I read are compilations of short stories. I usually read a story that I can complete in one reading. However, I have also been known to enjoy the writings of Jake Sisko.” “Jake Sisko,” Michael sounded impressed. “There is some heavy reading. Not exactly “juicy romance” novels. There’s a depth to Doctor that you like to hide from others. I find that interesting. Your turn. What else would you like to know?” “Well you did answer my question, when I asked the first one. It was like a twofer. You can’t be deep undercover all the time. What do you do when you are not the ‘secret agent man?’ You cook, roast your own coffee, which you have already proven better than I am at both. Is there anything that no one knows about you?” Michael looked past Quinna thinking. He wasn’t sure how to answer that question, since there was so much nobody knew about him. Even still, what he had told Quinna one could find with enough research and digging deep enough. He knew she was looking for something deeper. This was a part of himself he was uncertain about sharing. But he had allowed her to ask the question and his promise was to answer her questions. “All of those things you mentioned I learned because of the job,” he finally said. “And my mother, of course. Something that nobody knows about me… .” He let that drag out as he dug deep. Then he looked at her very seriously. “I suffer from coulrophobia.” “Really?” Quinna asked. It was not unheard of, but with Michael it seems out of character. “There has to be a background story. Can I hear it?” He dropped his head, pleased that she didn’t make fun of him over this very real, yet very unreasonable fear. “When I was a child my mom took me to the circus. It was put on by a company that comprised of many species from across the galaxy. And I had never seen a clown before. When this creature with a large white head and brilliant orange hair, with matching eyes came out. Everyone else was laughing but I found the character frightening. And bad things started to happen to it. It kept getting hit, over and over again. I didn’t understand why. Finally they put this clown in an old fashioned canon. They were going to fire him out of the canon, but suddenly the weapon exploded. I was beside myself with grief for this poor creature. Then the clown suddenly reappeared right in front of me. Needless to say, it scared… well it scared the crap out of me.” He paused his story for a minute and composed himself. “But that wasn’t the worst of it. I felt that I’d been lied to. I’d been made to feel sympathy for this poor, unsuspecting creature, and to have that sympathy turn to anger as it had lied to me at such a deep level. It went beyond the fact that I could never enjoy a clown performance again, but I couldn’t trust it. What else would it lie to me about. And nobody realized how deeply it affected me. That was until my mother decided it was time for my brother to have the circus experience. Well, that is when things kind of got ugly.” He could see in her eyes that Quinna needed to hear the rest so he continued, “When the clowns came out I began to feel a rage build up inside of me. Then when one of them approached my family, and my brother I… well… I sort of lost control of myself. I attacked the clown. By the time they pulled me off the Bolian clown I had broken his nose and kicked him so hard that he had to be carried out of the tent. Soooo… yeahhh.... I don’t like clowns.” “I would be traumatized too if I had your experience.” Quinna took Michael’s hand and gave it a kiss. “I am glad you told me. I promise, no clowns. Thank you for telling me. It is a lot to talk about your fears. Everyone fears something. It is how we live with it.” Michael smiled and kissed Quinna back. Then he turned and looked at the lake and then back at Quinna. “Do you swim?” With that he stood up and threw a corner of the cloth over the food. Then he stripped down to the swimsuit that he wore under his clothes and ran into the cold water. He began splashing at the shore. “Come on in,” he called, “the water is fine.” He knew it was a white lie, but he figured she’d forgive him. Quinna laughed as she watched Michael. She was surprised that he did not know already. She stripped off her clothes and ran to the water. When the water was deep enough, she dove into the water and swam underwater past Michael. She popped her head out of the water. She treaded the water and called out, “Are you coming?” Quinna waited for Michael to catch up with her. When he reached her, Quinna looked at his shoulder. It was the first time she had seen it since he was in sickbay. She gently ran her fingers on the scar tissue. “I can fix this. Is it still sore?” He looked at that at and smiled, “I don’t know, I kind of like it. Gives me … character. Besides, it’s a constant reminder of you. It gets stiff periodically, but no, it doesn’t give me any discomfort.” With that he dove under the water and grabbed Quinna’s ankles. With a tug he pulled her under. With both of them under water he looked into her face. He pulled her into a tight embrace and pressed his lips to hers and began a more enthusiastic kiss. Quinna fell into the kiss as he literally took her breath away from her in more ways than one. They resurfaced and were able to catch their breaths. She used one hand to keep afloat as she used the other to caress his face. His face shined as the sun illuminated the moisture. She saw him in a different light. “Like you are going to forget me.” She said as she moved in for another kiss. Michael laughed, “That is true.” He held onto the embrace as they tread water. “I better be careful,” he said as he finally backed away. “I could get to like this.” Suddenly there was a sound from the shore. A group of Betazoids had come to the lake. As was their custom they simply removed all their clothes and jumped into the water, whooping and yelling. Who knew what they were actually saying to each other. But very soon they had begun to engage is some, very personal activities. Looking at Quinna he shrugged his shoulders, “Well we can either join them or leave them to it.” Quinna was a bit timid. “I know ‘When in Rome’ but I am not sure I am ready for that.” Quinna said, “Funny seeing I am a doctor. You would think that Skinny dipping would be nothing to me.” Though it has never been brought up, Quinna thought Michael should know, “Actually I have never been that intimate with anyone.” Michael shook his head and smiled, “Then this is not the right time. It should be special and not rushed. Let’s go. We’ve got places to see.” He kissed her gently then pushed away and swam towards the shore. “Let’s go pokey,” he called over the shoulder. “We can’t explore from here.” Shaking her head, “If this is a challenge.” She said to herself. She swam to shore, passing Michael. She made it to the picnic site and she lay there until he caught up. Michael walked over to the sheet and kneeled down. “All hail the conquering hero. You swim… good.” He grabbed her and rolled her over on top of him, pulling her into a kiss. Then he released his hold and rolled her off. “Well, don’t just lay there,” he said playfully, “I want to make it to the base of the mountain in an hour. I’ve read that there are caves by the waterfalls that feed the lake.” He jumped up and pulled on his clothes over his wet swimsuit. Then he dried his feet and pulled on his socks and shoes. Looking at her shoes he looked critically. “Those shoes won’t do for the hike we’re going on. I took the liberty…” he reached into the bag and pulled out a pair of hiking boots that he brought that were sized to Quinna’s feet by the computer, try these on.” Then he proceeded to pack up the food and put it into the bag, leaving the watermelon on top. After she dressed, Quinna looked into her bag and smiled at the hiking shoes she had in there. She opted not to pull them out. She in turn pulled out a hair tie to put her hair up. “Hold up,” Quinna said as she grabbed a piece of watermelon before he put it away. “So to the Mountain huh? Lead the way.” (reply none) (Posted by Al Muir and Kris B) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Betazed - Temple of the Goddess - Federation Ambassador Dr. Riven Mias, Captain Sekal, FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin & Temas Laredo – 1630) The Captain and Sienna had beamed down to right outside the entrance to the Temple. She recognized some of the architecture from images that Luma had shared with her. The people who had created the Temple had come from the stock that Luma’s bondmates had been pulled from. The strongest telepaths often had issues with their powers and this place was where many of them came for help. “This place is beautiful. I wish I could have come here before.” Sienna breathed the words, and winced slightly as she felt Luma’s desire to be with them. Sienna’s bond with Luma was a mess due mostly to how it was created and forced open. “Luma wants to be here as well. She can’t see out of my eyes like she can on the ship, I’m just not strong enough to complete the connection. I hope Dr. Mias has a good choice for Luma.” Sekal nodded. "Indeed." He had spoken with Dr. Mias and this group was expected. Riven had promised to have the telepath available who was to become Luma's bondmate. Having a permanent mind bondmate for the Lenai would free up his time which had been eaten up by the necessity of being intercessor between Luma and the crew. Having a bond with Luma was profitable in the event of hostilities as he could direct her as needed but for daily activities her permanent bondmate would take over. This arrangement had been decided after hiccups had caused some initial confusion. The day was bright with thin, wispy clouds in the upper atmosphere. The temperature was hovering around 30 degrees centigrade, so mild to the Vulcan and with a moderate humidity. The smell of lush vegetation hung heavily in the air. They had materialized on a grassy swath bordered by brilliantly hued flowers near the front portico of the temple. The temple environs covered some 100 acres and included not only a number of buildings but pools, gardens and training grounds. Some of the buildings had multiple functions but the nearest to the main temple edifice according to his understanding would be for mind healing and meditation/instruction. Colorful birds took wing as the front portal opened and the mind healer and his wife stepped outside along with a younger man in tow who had a shaggy mane of blonde hair. Temas had been monitoring the pair that had invaded his mental peace. Clearly one was a Vulcan. Very controlled, with little vague or wandering thoughts. He knew immediately that he would like anyone that could manage themselves so easily. The other, however, was a little wilder of thought. Her mind was full of curiosity, especially around the flora of Betazed. Her thoughts were of the beauty and appreciation, but she was not nearly as focused as her companion. According to the dossier he had been given, this was Captain Sekal and Commander Williams-Verin. The captain and first officer of the Illuminar, which was to become his new home. Suddenly he turned his back on them and looked from Riven to Michaela. “I’m afraid, Riven Mias. You know what happened the last time I was with so many unguarded minds.” He sent a mental image of angry people yelling and crying. “Are you sure I’m ready for this?” Riven turned his head to him with a smile. "That was a long time ago Temas and you have learned control since you were a child. It has become as much a part of you as your talent. Control of your thoughts is much like a muscle in your body which is ready when called upon even when not consciously used. As we have spoken of in the past, trust yourself. Looking at the past can cause us to fear the future. Don't allow this to keep you from what the goddess has in store for your life." Sienna smiled seeing Riven and Michaella again. She waited patiently by the Captain while the new crewmember and Riven were talking. “I would like to be the first to say welcome to the Illuminar, Mr. Laredo. Dr. Mias and his Lady will be coming aboard to assist the crew for a few months, so you will not be alone as you settle into your hopefully new position.” Sienna spoke calmly. Michaella touched Temas’ shoulder, “You will like Luma, I believe. She is very outgoing and social, and quite protective of those she considers her people. And she has had a great deal of history with the Betazoid culture. I’m looking forward to working with her again to preserve some of the musical and oral history traditions that the early settlers had. It’s rather a fascinating field of study.” “Music?” Temas sounded intrigued, as he looked to Michaella. “You know how I enjoy music. It can be so soothing and stimulating at the same time. I’m looking forward to studying it as well.” Riven looked at Sienna and laughed. "A few? I thought you said two months Sienna, the more time that goes by the longer my stay extends. When they are ready to mothball the ship will I owe it one hundred more years?" His voice and smile showed clearly that he was in wonderful humor today even beyond his normal, affable self. He always found the prospect of going off-planet exciting and even though he was getting a bit older the wanderlust was still there. Had he not had the High Priestess to deal with he would be spending most of his time away. Sienna glanced up at Sekal for a moment, “Would that keep you with us? You are an invaluable asset to our crew, Riven.” She spoke happily, so pleased to finally be on Betazed. “And of course we like you, for you. We had a party the other night aboard to celebrate the promotion of two of our officers to command staff. I wonder if you could have thrown the ball and dunked the targets as well as Sekal did?” She provided the image of the dunking booth telepathically and the memory of Sekal throwing the ball to dunk Gregory. “It was great fun.” She was gently teasing Sekal. Riven laughed brightly while the Vulcan shrugged. "I've been to a few wetting downs in my time but none that used a carnival game to make merriment for the crew. I think your Captain would have me beat handily." He then sobered and shook his head. "The High Priestess would have my hide and position if I stay away too long, I've only just resettled into a routine here the last few years…," his eyes twinkled, "... a routine this ship is fond of upsetting though being an Ambassador at Large complicates things." Temas finally registered the welcoming statement of the woman. He managed a weak smile. She was attractive, but her mind was a turmoil of mixed emotions. “I am pleased to meet Commander Sienna Williams-Verin.” He paused for a moment and tilted his head slightly. Then his smile grew to genuine pleasure. “And may I congratulate you on your recent bonding with a … Vulcan?” He looked over at Sekal. “Yes, Lt. T’Mur is on the Illuminar currently. We have plans to stay at Janaran Falls this evening.” Temas smiled, “It is a lovely place for young lovers to visit. I am certain you and your mate will find it pleasurable. If your T’Mur feels pleasure?” “She does.” Sienna spoke simply. “I hope that you and she will get along.” Then he turned to the captain, and nodded in greeting, “And Captain Sekal. Your reputation precedes you. I look forward to being of service to you and your ship.” The last part was not exactly accurate. He was not exactly looking forward to it. However, he knew that it was time for him to… grow beyond the confines of the Temple. Sekal lifted his right hand. "Live long and prosper Mr. Laredo. I believe you will find Luma to be quite a … delight though very emotional. She is an ancient being but with a youthful exuberance." “I am used to … people being emotional,” Temas admited. “I am anxious to meet her. However, I have had to learn the concept of anticipation. What are your plans for your stay on Betazed, sir.” "We will be leaving in 48 hours after resupply and shore leave for the ship's personnel." Sekal replied. “Would you like to head to the Illuminar and meet her, Mr. Laredo? Or would you prefer to talk about her some? Her needs are quite demanding but Lt. Jordaan found the experience to be very rewarding. For instance, she has her own starship docked at Utopia Planetia that the two of you can take out if you would like.” Sienna hoped, hoped that this man would suit Luma and the bond that had been burdening her could be shut down. Temas was intrigued that the captain completely sidestepped his question. Then he remembered that Vulcans liked to get straight to the point. In many ways Vulcans and Betazoids were very similar. They both had an appreciation for the truth. Vulcans because the truth was the fastest and most direct way of getting to the solution of a problem. Betazoids because it was more difficult to hide the truth on a planet of telepaths. The truth just becomes second nature, as does being blunt. “I would like, very much, to meet Luma,” he admitted, “but I am also a trained diplomat, and there is more on the mind of your companion than just Luma… although there is something else there.” He could feel the mental check and admonition from Riven, and withdrew. He found the turmoil in her mind drawing. He also realized that he was stalling. He kept thinking, or hoping that Riven would come to his senses. But he knew that the truth was, it was Temas who needed to come to his senses. “Yes,” he said, “perhaps we should not put this off. I have read about her, of course, but we can talk as we walk to the beam out site.” He began to walk along a path amidst the trees. “Tell me what you consider to be her demanding needs, Commander Verin?” Sienna thought for a moment, “Luma has problems relating to others. Those she has the most issue with she puts in the ‘time out shuttle’. The Captain or I have to go and rescue whoever has drawn her ire at that moment and soothe the situation. If Luma has an active dislike of a person, they will usually transfer to get away from her. Those that get along with her, well, Luma takes very good care of those people. She is outgoing, like I said, very sociable, a huge gossip. She loves people and music. And uh. Well, I’m not sure how to say this, but with the depth of the bond, she will be able to see through your eyes, hear through your ears and experience food and touch and, well, any sense you can think of. For instance, Luma enjoys the sensation of brushing our Catian in security. She refers to him as her kitty.” Verin laughed a little bit. Temas did not join her in the laugh, until it was clear that he was supposed to. Then it just became an awkward laugh. “That’s very interesting. Those are the demanding needs? Captain Sekal, do you agree with the Commander’s analysis?” Sekal nodded. "The commander is essentially correct. The bulk of your duties will be as a mediator between Luma and the crew, answering questions and as an instructor in interspecies relations. When the matter is a tactical one or concerning the ship's systems I will deal with it. I am a temporary mind bondmate who had to resume the duties when Lieutenant Jordaan left the ship. If something arises you are not prepared to deal with you may ask me for counsel." As they continued to walk, Temas contemplated the information. He understood about having troubles relating to others. He did find it humorous that Luma would put people she had issues with on time out. And she does seem to take care of those she likes, as though they were pets. It was an interesting dynamic. “Can you explain more about those she has issues with?” he asked. “Some examples would be helpful. And the sudden loss of her current bondmate, Lt. Jordaan. How did this come about? Does Luma know why she is no longer available to her?” Sienna was going to leave the first question up to the Captain, but the second she could answer, “Yes, Vex sent Luma a holo explaining the situation and why she is unavailable. Lt. Jordaan is the sole owner of a family business now and those business matters kept her on Earth. Luma was very distraught by this and felt like she was being abandoned again. I can explain about that further either telepathically or when we are aboard the ship.” Sienna stopped for a moment then glanced at Riven. “I’m sure it’s been explained that Luma is considered to be an object of Starfleet Intelligence, that is classified. She is nominally in the care of Starfleet but in reality she has a home with the Vulcans.” Sienna did not need to elaborate any further. Temas was concerned about those words… abandoned again. There seems to be a pattern in her life, and he knew that he was going to have to create trust, for them to truly bond. But there was something even more concerning to him. “Luma is considered to be an object? It was my understanding that Luma is a living entity, not an object to possess, or do I misunderstand something?” “She is the last living member of her race. Which are non-corporeal space entities.” Sienna spoke calmly, “But due to her abilities she is considered classified. She would be an object of greed for many if the unscrupulous understood her.” “I bet,” Temas said, as they arrived at the transport station. He turned to Riven and smiled, “Any last words of advice?” Riven smiled. "A word of wisdom that was passed to me. Compliment Luma on the roses, they are her pride and joy. And don't think I'm gone for long, Michaella and I will be coming aboard tomorrow. In the meantime, relax and get to know Luma, she is a true delight." He then winked at Sienna. "Don't forget the grand tour in the morning, you'll spend a full day here." He then bowed respectfully to Sekal. "Captain.” Temas turned to Riven and Michaela and gave them both a hug. ::Thank you both for everything.:: He turned and stepped into the transport area, and looked at Sekal and Verin. He could already feel the influence of Luma’Lemai in orbit. “Let’s get this show on the road.” (reply none) (posted by Charles G, Mel G and Al) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Betazed - Kharzad- Lake Cataria - CMO/3O Lt.Quinna Solice & SFI Michael Weston - 1625) They had marched for nearly an hour, following the edge of the lake. They talked as they walked, it wasn’t as if they were in a hurry. It was all still an opportunity to get to know one another. Michael had told Quinna the story of the first time he had taken his brother camping in the mountains… without parental supervision. It was also the first time he’d seen a live bear. He didn’t even realize that they still existed in the 25th century. But they do. It was also the time he set a record of carrying 100 lbs up a tree. His brother could not get up to the first branch. When they returned home his mom didn’t know whether to punish them for taking off on their own or to hug Michael for keeping his brother safe. It always seemed to be that way with his mom. She just didn’t know how to treat him. Quinna absorbed the knowledge. She was happy to really get to know Michael. In turn, Quinna talked about growing up with her grandmother in upper state New York. Starfleet had been a forbidden topic in the home. She even had her father’s and her Husband’s Starfleet accreditations boxes up and placed in the attic She then went on about all the different things that her grandmother tried to get her involved in like pole dancing. “The view is absolutely breathtaking.” Quinna said as a breeze swept through her already dry hair. Quinna pulled Micheal closer to her and kissed him. “Thank-you for getting me out of my office.” Michael smiled, “You are quite welcome.” Looking directly into her eyes he added, “And yes, the view is breathtaking.” Quinna thought about bringing up the subject of her parents. She did not want to push it. She was afraid she may have pushed it at the lake, but he was still there and still holding her hand. She decided she would talk about it another time, when he would let her cook for him. “You know, I think I could use some more of that watermelon you brought. What do you say?” Michael quickly pulled off the backpack and fished out the container of watermelon, “As you wish,” he said, offering her the container. Then he pulled out a piece for himself and put the container back. The watermelon was very juicy and he had to slurp a little to make sure it didn’t dribble down his chin. He looked up to see that Quinna hadn’t been quite so lucky. There was a small stream of pink liquid from the corner of her mouth to her chin. He put his hand on her cheek and wiped the juice with his thumb. Then he leaned in and kissed her lips. “Mmm… you taste yummy,” he said. Something about that statement made Quinna start laughing. “That was quite…” Quinna laughed. Now Quinna was a mess. “I’m sorry.” Quinna apologized. Without thinking, Quinna leaned back over and started kissing him again. “Ok. We can kiss until our lips are chapped and worn out, or we could wrestle, or strip down to our suits again and swim behind the waterfall. Quinna then started to untie her wrapped blouse. Michael raised both his eyebrows as Quinna started to strip down. “All I heard was strip down and wrestle,” he laughed. Then he looked at the waterfall and saw the light outline of a cave behind it. He dropped his shorts and shirt on the bag and followed Quinna into the water. Once in he marveled how she moved like a mermaid, powerful and graceful. His swimming was all just power. They swam to within the range of the falls. The sound of the water pounding the water of the lake was deafening. He took a deep breath and dove down. He went down into the plunge basin and started up the other side of the fall until he erupted through the surface into a small hidden lagoon. When Quinna popped up he smiled and made a grand gesture, remembering a phrase he had once been told. “Ladies and gentlemen, I present the backside of water.” “Who knew this was here?” though it was obvious someone had to know. They swam to the edge of the lagoon and came up on a dark beach. Michael pulled a small palm beacon from his pocket and switched it on. He shone the light on the back of the cave and bright pink and purple light refracted around them in a spectacular display. ”Whoa,” he said, “this alone was worth the trip.” Quinna trained the water from her hair, “Let's have a closer look.” Quinna started moving to the wall. She felt some sharp edges of stone on her bare feet, “Be careful where you step,” she warned. She then reached out with her hand to touch the pink and purple colors of the wall. “The pink areas seem a bit warmer than the purple,” Quinna observed. That was the look on Quinna’s face that drew Michael to her. That look of curiosity and a need to know. He was as enthralled with that look as he was with the actual geological structures. However, her fascination with the crystals was contagious. He walked nimbly between the sharp floor rocks giving off a periodic ooch and ouch. He touched the layers of crystals gently and noted Quinna’s observation. The pink areas were warmer. Interesting. Since crystals grow faster in a warmer climate it would lead to follow that the pink crystals formed more recently, and are growing quicker. He’d be interested in coming back in a few months and see how it would look differently. He knelt down and picked up two of the larger rocks and dropped them in his pocket. Something to look at later. Then he turned the palm light around and activated the chip recorder. He took several shoots of the wall and then turned to Quinna. “Smile Doctor,” he said. “I need a picture of this.” Quinna turned her head to just see Michael take the picture. “You need to delete that.” Quinna said in her calm tone. Michael chuckled, “Not on your life. This one is getting framed and going on the wall of my quarters.” “Just remember, I know more about the anatomy than you do. I can make you submit.” Quinna winked at Michael as she lunged at him laughing. She tried to grab the device. Michael lifted his hand high. Being a bit taller than her he could easily keep it out of her reach. “Oh, you’d like to make me submit would you? I have some experience in that.” As she reached up for the device he wrapped his arms around her and held it behind her back. “You do realize I’m recording this whole thing?” That part was not true, although he considered it. “If you are planning on selling the video on the open market, I get 70% of the profits.” Quinna reached behind her to try and fiddle for the camera but she could not. Quinna calmed down and fell into his hold. She could hear his breath. She slowly pulled back from him. “We should come back with an exploration kit next time. I could spend at least a week exploring here.” Michael nodded, “I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m not really the science type but there’s something about geology that I can really identify with.” He looked at the chronometer on his device and then at Quinna. “We should probably head back soon, unless you want to spend the night under the stars.” “I could think of worse ways to spend the night.” Quinna said, “But you are right. I don’t have my pillow.” Quinna moved back to the water. She dove down and re-emerged outside close to their belongings. She reached the shore and watched for Michael to re-emerge. It was already starting to get dark. Once they were dressed again they started heading back. By the time they arrived at the transport station it was night. The only lights that could be seen were the ones around the station. They had chit chatted about what they had seen and various meaningless conversations. But before they called to be returned to the ship Michael pulled Quinna to him. He kissed her with passion. “Look, I made arrangements for us to stay at the resort by the Jarran Falls. It’s supposed to be a very nice place. And yes, I booked two rooms. I thought we might have a late supper, and check out a different area. That is, if you’re okay with it. Unless you’re in a hurry to get back to those medical reports.” Quinna was taken aback. She did not think she would be staying. She certainly did not pack for such. “I really want to say, ‘yes’ I really do. There is so much work to do. So screw it. Let’s go.” Michael smiled and stepped up to the computer. He tapped some keys and said, “Jarran Falls Resort.” He held out his hand and took hold of Quinna’s as the transporter affect took hold and sent them to their destination.
