Penny Mc Taggard - 19:46 ) Penny told the FO about herself and her family. As the XO replied Penny began to wonder about this cousin. Who was supposed to be in Starfleet. ( Flash back - Starfleet Academy) Penny entered the mess hall carrying three padds. Her hair was a mess and there were red rings around her eyes. She ordered a large mug of Raktajino and sat down. She put her forehead on the table and whimpered. “ Hey what’s all this for? “ Her friend Cadet Trudy Somers asked. “ T’su. I swear she must be a Romulan in disguise. Announcing we are to have a exam today. On everything we have learned so far in biology . I mean why? I am going to be a yellow shirt not blue. What’s the point on teaching us about that?” Penny asked “ Because it helps to know what makes the enemy tick. So you know how high to set the stun setting.Without killing your foe. Why don’t you get a study partner? “ Trudy asked “ Because the only one available is the creep.” Penny replied “ Who? “ Trudy asked “ The creep. That bearded guy who never talks to anyone. They say he killed his fiancée when he caught her cheating on him. Got off because his late grandfather was a war hero.” Penny said. “ Like your grandfather you mean. Maybe his some distant relative.” Trudy said with a smile. “ Trudy please. I have enough on my plate. Without having to worry that Stan the creepy man is a cousin of mine.” Penny said looking up. ( End of flashback ) Penny jerked back to the present. “ Sorry ma’am. I was just thinking. Have you ever heard of a Stan More? “ Penny asked. ( Reply , Siena ) ( Posted by:- Norman 🐨) (USS Illuminar, Deck 2 - FO's Office - FO Lt. Sienna Williams-Verin - 19:50 ) “ I decided to have a holiday on Bajor. I had just arrived when I saw your people in a wee scrap. At the academy our instructors told us. That once we take the oath all people who wear the badge. Are connected to us as brothers and sisters. I could nee turn the other cheek. So I went in to help. Luma’lenai is a quite interesting person to speak to.” Sienna was enjoying both the accent of this newly assigned Officer, but also her enthusiasm. Penny reminded Sy of how she and Trip had been on their ride from Earth to Mars on that crowded shuttle. Before Sienna could say anything, Penny was literally bouncing in her seat, and the emotions Sy caught were all positive ones. Sienna should be worried that her shields were patchy enough to be sensing all this exuberance, but she was tired, and she was missing her twin more and more as the distance between them widened. She needed to get some help from someone who knew Betazoid traditions better than she did. “ Um.......did I hear you correctly? I am assigned to the Illuminar? Ma’am..” "Indeed I did, Ensign." Sienna called up the orders and turned the screen so that Penny could see them. "See, counter-signed by my Dad the Admiral who runs the Academy and Admiral Vanyssa Winters who runs Fleet Operations. Huh. That's my Mother's signature as well, Admiral Sophie Verin. Mum runs Strategic Operations. If she's tapped you as one of hers, that must mean that you have something special to you, Ensign. I look forward to seeing it." Sienna smiled, but then noticed something about the Ensign. Her emotions had turned darker and her eyes had that glassy look of remembrance, one that Sy had seen in trauma before. Sienna sighed softly, reaching over to pick up a set of gloves, which she slipped onto her hands before she touched the Ensign's hand to gently try and bring her back to the present. Sienna had learned the hard, difficult way not to touch anything or anybody without silk between her skin and theirs. "Ensign, please focus on me." Sienna used a soft but firm tone. "Eyes on mine. Whatever you were seeing was in the past, not here." “ Sorry ma’am. I was just thinking. Have you ever heard of a Stan More? “ Penny asked. Sy frowned lightly as the Ensign tried to play off what had just happened. "Luma, access Starfleet records for a Stan Moore please." Sy reinforced the command telepathically to catch Luma's attention. "While Luma is checking on that, I want to reiterate something, Ensign. Most of our crew is used to Luma, many of them were aboard the Mystique or at Mars with her. She IS the ship. She IS the computer. She is also millenia old, and she takes the protection of her people very seriously. And we are ALL her people." Sienna thought a moment, then continued, "She calls us her small ones. It is not because she sees us as less than her, it is that because to her, we are. Our lives are short and not as long. She does not like death, and actively fears it. But just because she does not possess a corporeal body does not make her any less of the crew. When needing to address the computer, feel free to address her instead. Especially while the ship is on the ground. Luma has not been on a planet since her own was destroyed and several of them transitioned to become what she is now." Luma was staying quiet, so Sienna took a moment to say, "Ensign, whatever is in your past, you need to see one of the Counselors aboard about it. I would rather you saw them on your own, but if you do not, I will order it. Something is bothering you, and as a security officer that could end your life. The CMO and her assistant are both Counselors, and we have another who is a diplomatic aid more than a Counselor, but she's also rather skilled. So you do have a choice in who you talk with." Sienna kept Penny's gaze until Penny acknowledged that she would. Luma broke in then, =^= Sorry the Penny, Our Sienna. Luma had to contact the Exeter but that person is stationed there, aboard Your Trip's ship and is a security officer with a decent record. Does Luma need to speak to Your Trip or Eimsanna Ailynn? =^= Sienna smiled. Lynn would always be her Imzadi. "No, Luma. Thank you. I believe my Brother is busy with the other side of this investigation as well as being newly married. But thank you for talking to the Exeter for us." Sienna turned back to Penny. "You will explain to me who this man is and why you wished to know of him. If he is a danger, I need to know. My twin commands the Exeter and my foster sister and Imzadi are aboard as well as my new Sister-in-law." Again that gentle but firm tone that said that Sienna wanted the truth. "I am also a Betazoid Ensign. I can sense your emotions, which at times are particularly strong." Sekal looked from Alyl to Solice his two Lieutenants to a relative newcomer on the ship in Ensign Gregory who had been working tirelessly to come up to speed on ship operations. He heard the turbolift doors open and quirked an eyebrow at the sight of his first officer. He then turned back to the officers and spoke. "I realize this is early in the investigation however I called you here to get an updated report. StarFleet Command is highly cognizant of the importance of this mission and are following it closely." The bridge was lightly manned at the time since the ship was not in flight, his navigator and pilot Lieutenant Grey Wolf for example was currently in the flight operations center. "Lieutenant Solice have you received an updated report on the Kai's condition from the medical team you have rotating into the temple?" (Reply: Solice, room for more) He then turned his attention to the others. "Lieutenant Alyl, Ensign Gregory what is the latest data on the energy field you have been scanning that is originating in the temple?" (Reply: Alyl, Gregory) He looked to his right. Ensign Murdok is a Benzite and loves a puzzle, as you know Benzites do.” “We’ve run several hundred simulations based on the data and have some proposed modifications to the Transporter. Specifically, we have identified a range of frequencies to test and filter out in the angular confinement beam that appear to be scattered by the field. We also believe we need to increase the power to the Heisenberg compensators once we identified the proper frequency . Last, we would propose the to increase the multiplex pattern buffer capacity by 20%. While we don’t think that is critical, since we’re trying to punch through this strange field, having that extra capacity will help while we solve the problem, and provide a redundancy when we start transporting crew back and forth.” “With your permission, Sir, after Science has reviewed our models and data, I can start working with the transporter chief to test the parameters. We should have an answer to the dilemma within two hours of starting.” (Reply Alyl, Sekal) (Posted by Tim) (USS Illuminar- Deck 1, Bridge - CMO- Lt. She spoke the truth but omitted that just did not leave the temple last night. “I am in the mist of separating the viral cells from the Bajorian Cells. After than I should have a better clue what we are looking at.” He then turned his attention to the others. "We picked up an energy field in the monastery that seems to be localised to the reliquary and is concentrated around the orbs. Previous records showed that the energy field only showed up slightly before the first reported symptoms, as confirmed by Mr. Stevens." He nodded towards Dr. Solice in gratitude. "We believe that something has changed about the orbs, and that something in their protective casings may have degraded. I'd like permission to get an engineering team to conduct a full metallurgical scan to see what they pick up, but that is my current hypothesis." (Reply Gregory, Verin, Sekal) He looked to his right. "Lieutenant Verin did you have something you wished to add?" (Reply: Verin, Solice, Gregory, Sekal, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Illuminar, Bridge - 2O, Lt. Carson Peters - 0810.5) Sleep had not come easy. The adrenaline still coursing through his veins from the excursion onto the planet and the worry and frustration surrounding the assault on Taya’s away team and her subsequent disappearance had kept him from getting much sleep at all. He’d tried to temper his frustration that he was unable to get back out onto Bajor and lead the search for her whilst discussing it with Vex. She had enough on her plate and had only returned to their quarters for a few hours between shifts. With Taya gone, she was in charge down in Engineering and was clearly taking to her work to keep her mind occupied and away from what was happening to her boss. There was a stillness to the Bridge, an eerie silence as the officers around him got on with their work with the due diligence that was expected from them. Looking down at the screen in front of him, he could see the figures flowing into the terminal that he’d asked for a few hours ago. "Is the report on the attack at the hotel completed?" Sekal said as he turned to Carson. Without looking up from the screen, “Just a few more pieces to put together before I’m happy that it’s ready to be sent in and it won’t be 100% until I can get in to speak with the Dean Vedek and his team once again. I’m not comfortable with any of our teams being planet side until we get to the bottom of the mystery, as regards who the attackers were.” He saw Sekal nod slightly before responding, "Send it to the ready room when complete." “Yes, Sir.” Carson responded before returning his gaze to the terminal screen. The Bajoran security forces weren’t being particularly forth coming with any findings they had on the assault on the Hotel yesterday evening, but he had all the Illuminar’s scans, crew interviews and his personal notes put together for the initial report. Previous records showed that the energy field only showed up slightly before the first reported symptoms, as confirmed by Mr. Stevens." He nodded towards Dr. Solice in gratitude. "We believe that something has changed about the orbs, and that something in their protective casings may have degraded. I'd like permission to get an engineering team to conduct a full metallurgical scan to see what they pick up, but that is my current hypothesis." “Sir,” Gregory said, “Before we go interfering with a member states internal belief system, perhaps we should exclude other possible causes first. Occam’s razor would suggest that if there was a slow degradation of the Orb arks, which have been around for thousands of years, signs should have shown up sooner, especially since such a degradation would be caused by the proximity to the elemental particles that are emitted by the orbs. “ “Before I joined the Illuminar, we had been tracking strange omicron radiation vectors that were coming out of the Dennorios Belt, on a direct line vector toward the station. Before I left, some of this radiation interacted with the station, the vector passing through the Bajoran temple on DN9 and causing an explosion in the area of Quark’s Bar. One Bajoran was killed in the explosion. Oddly, he could not be identified. Since that explosion, the vector had disappeared.” “We have three probes up there, that were tuned to Omicron radiation. I could give access to science and let them search the probes recording to see if there was a similar turned up. A call to the Ministry of Science might not be our of order.” Gregory paused, and looked around at the officer’s present. He was an Ensign, newly assigned at that, but the Chief on the station always told him to speak his mind. Something bothered him about the whole situation, and poking at the Orbs seemed an overreach unless there was some other clear reason. (Reply any) “I’m sorry sir” he said to the Commander, “Permission to be dismissed to work on the transporter problem” (Reply Sekal) (Posted by Tim) (USS Illuminar- Deck 1, Bridge - CO- Lieutenant Commander Sekal - 0813) Sekal listened closely to each of his officers, each brought with them a different in sight and experience and all had valid reasoning. Ensign Gregory was the last to speak and brought forth a cautionary note. Sekal nodded to him. "Agreed Ensign, liase with DS9 and continue the research from that angle, it must be determined if the omicron radiation affected this location or was induced by it. You have leave to continue your research." He then turned to Jaton. "That question needs to be answered Lieutenant but you may take an engineering team to study the orbs. For now you will not use any invasive procedures. Between science and engineering I will expect to see some concrete evidence before you consider touching the orbs themselves. It has been theorized that the energy of the orbs would be debilitating if the protective fields themselves are compromised but we need to show beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is indeed happening." (Reply: Jaton) He then looked at Quinna. "Thank you doctor." He could see that she appeared disheveled and red eyed. "Turn the samples over to your medical team and take four hours off. Have them notify me when they are done." (Reply: Quinna) Lieutenant Verin had demured on intersecting into the conversation earlier so he sat back and nodded to her once the others had left. We have a problem that I’m hoping you can help us with. =^= Gregory went on for several minutes explaining Lieutenant Alyl’s theories and the Commander’s orders. =^= Well Ensign, that is a bit of a crazy situation you’ve landed yourself in. I’ll start working on the probe data and try to liaise with your ship’s science team. If you want, I’ll reach out to the Science Ministry to see they will give us access to their records. Check in anytime. =^= =^= Thank you Lieutenant. Your plan is acceptable. I have procured type 4 transporter test units for this work.” ~Big eyes. Kind of disconcerting. ~ “Great, so let me hook up my gear so I can make the adjustments and hopefully we can dial in the right conditions. Jaton shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other. "Understood, sir," he said hesitantly. It seemed Sekal hadn't heard about his encounter with the Orb of Time. And he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. "With your permission, I'll head to engineering to set up our coordination." Also I suggest getting with Ensign Stennin to see if he has any further information. That is all, dismissed." He stood up and walked with Lieutenant Solice to the Ready Room. (Reply: None needed) (Posted by Charles Gatling) (USS Illuminar- Deck 1, Bridge - FO- Lieutenant Sienna Williams-Verin - 0819) Sienna had stood back, and listened to the reports. 0800 had come far too early after far too little sleep and the look that Sekal had given her when he saw her on his bridge made that very clear. She needed to talk to him, but away from the others. She held a lot of guilt over the deaths of the crew and the fact that Taya was missing. And she had an idea. She had been given certain psychic powers by the Q for some reason and in her rather interrupted sleep this morning an idea had came to her. "What was the reason for reporting to the bridge Lieutenant?" Sekal asked her, one eyebrow quirked in that way that Vulcans did. Sy nodded towards the ready room and the two had been together long enough that they did not need to speak. He led the way and she followed. (USS Illuminar- Deck 1 - Ready Room - 0822) Sienna stopped at the replicator and ordered orange juice for Sekal and apple juice for herself. She would have liked coffee, but coffee was a terrible idea when she needed to go back to sleep. Carrying the drinks over, she set his orange juice down in front of him. "To answer your earlier question, I'm not sure. I felt a need to be here and to hear what the others were saying. Reading a report is one thing, but being able to hear and see is different, and it tells me more. I got woken up by a rough dream after about two hours of sleep and I think what the dream was telling me is something that I need to do, especially after hearing that Alyl believes that there is a breakdown in the orbs casing. I would like to enter the Temple and touch the Kai as well as the orbs. The psychometry that Q gave me allows me when I touch things and people to see memories and their past. There might be a clue there to help us." She sipped her juice as she thought. "I feel responsible for Ensign Taya's disappearance, and the death of the crew member in that terrorist attack. This is the first time that a crew member has died because of my orders. I know that it is a right of passage for all command officers, but Sekal, I also know that if I had pushed Bajoran control harder, maybe we could have gotten the net set up sooner and known..." She sighed, tears in her eyes. She was a Betazoid and with the increase in her empathic abilities because of the Q she had not been dealing well. She was not entirely sure if she was asking her commanding officer or someone that had become almost a friend in spite of the differences that divided them, differences that made them an ideal command team. Why would he pull her. She was in the middle of lab work, experiments, and needed to start producing bio samples. Quinna took a deep breath. She was not about to let her emotions of anger over take her. After a few moments when she was composed she turned to the Captain. “Sir, can I talk to you for a moment?” (Reply Sekal) Hoping that they would go the ready room , Quinna did not find it appropriate to challenge the Captain’s orders in front of the crew. “I prefer to go to your Ready Room.” (Reply Sekal) (USS Illuminar -- Captain’s Ready Room -- Deck 1 -- CMO Lt. "I will be with momentarily number one." “I prefer to go to your Ready Room.” He quirked an eyebrow at the Doctor who had echoed his thoughts and led her to his office. (USS Illuminar -- Captain’s Ready Room -- Deck 1 -- CO- Lieutenant Commander Sekal-- 0823) He seated himself and motioned to a chair. “Permisson to speak freely, Sir?” "Of course Lieutenant, continue." “Sir, I don’t need a nap. I need to be back at the temple. Why would you pull me from my work.” The Vulcan nodded. "Take a seat Doctor. It is only logical that you be fully informed." He waited until she did so then continued. "Some aspects were left out of the briefing due to their nature and had an impact on my decision so I will fill you in. On the surface our mission here was quite benign, make an appearance in a show of force and solidarity with the Bajoran people and assure them of our intentions but the undercurrent you are not aware of is that Commodore Remae himself had an encounter with Q with a dire warning for the future." He leaned forward with his arms upon the desktop and regarded her. "Bajor at this time stands at the brink of a civil war doctor with no way to know what steps or missteps might ignite it. I myself have taken steps to mitigate it, even to softening my stance with the head of the Vedeks to avoid starting it." He steepled his fingers. "My reasoning was this, I need every officer at the apex of their ability in every aspect of this mission. Your part of the mission is no less important than any of the senior officers or department heads. You are overseeing the medical care of one of the most influential people on the planet and I have no trust of the one who might displace her. I need to know you are alert and focused to meet any eventuality." “I have valuable testing going on. We really just started on testing the blood.” He nodded. "I have no doubts to your ability or the validity of your findings and I trust you to do what is necessary." He stood to his feet. "You may return to the temple Doctor Solice and I will await an updated report. " (Reply: Solice) (Played by Charles G) (USS Illuminar- Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Lieutenant Commander Sekal- 0827) After the CMO left his office First Officer Verin had entered which gave them an opportunity to discuss what had brought her to the bridge in the midst of her off cycle. "Thank you." He stated as she set the glass of OJ on the desk before him and took a seat then began speaking. I know that it is a right of passage for all command officers, but Sekal, I also know that if I had pushed Bajoran control harder, maybe we could have gotten the net set up sooner and known..." He shook his head as she trailed off. "It is unnecessary to question your actions Lieutenant. Emergency conditions such as the shooting at the hotel allow us greater freedom of action and having the sensor net active earlier would have made no difference. It was already in place when Ensign Taya was taken captive." The Vulcan had made no effort to pick up his beverage yet. "Your request to examine the Kai is approved however I suggest you do so only after you have further rested." Sekal still recalled vividly her collapse upon Mars when they had been walking to the medical center, he had carried her the rest of the way. Medical issues owing to her mixed heritage were exacerbated by exhaustion and protecting her from them was necessary, especially in front of the crew. It was far easier here on the ship where Luma was ever-present. The door opened as she got close to it and instead of waiting, Vex strolled through into the CSO's office. No viruses, no bacteria, no mold or spores and no other organisms that were using the Kai as a host. Was it boredom or inspiration that caused him to change the test parameters? Perhaps it was desperation, this grasping at straws but after the sample was scanned he checked it and gave a start. "This can't be right. What are you doing here in a test sample?" Turning around, they saw Ensign Mc Taggart try to phase through the doors, and failing. To her credit, she bounced right up and entered the room. “Sorry sir thought I were late,” She said apologizing. “Hello Ensign,” Devers said. “First order of business, I call you Sir, or actually Ma’am. I’m only a petty officer, and only a newly minted petty officer.” Turning to Lannis, “Lannis is also a petty officer, so you’re the ranking member, Ma’am. ” “If you no mind a mug of Raktajino would be treat. If I may?” Penny asked. She moved towards the food slot and ordered. A mug of Klingon coffee. Then walking slowly so she could not spill any. Penny took a seat. “Ma’am, anything with caffeine is the hourly drink for us down here in tactical and security. I don’t know if Lieutenant Hammerfield will be joining us, as the Assistant CMO was a bit aggressive when I went to pay my respects.” Lannis sat down with her own mug of coffee while Devers pointed to the map. “Seems our Chief of Engineering, Lieutenant Taya, is missing. There was an explosion in a tunnel her team was exploring last night, which killed another member of her team. She is missing and her comm badge was found. Scans looking for an Andorian have not revealed anything. Ensign Saarsgard wants us to go find her and bring her back. He also wants her captors brought back to stand trial. So this is a search and rescue mission, into hostile territory, with little/no chance of backup as the tunnels seem to prevent communications. Rules of engagement are to get Lieutenant Taya first and foremost. Second is to get her captures, alive preferably, but to take no chances and protect ourselves.” Devers looked at Lannis and then to Mc Taggart. “Ma’am, that’s all I know. I would recommend we draw SAR packs from the armory as well as phasers. I’m not sure how easy it will be to wield a phaser rifle in those tunnels. Unless Lieutenant Hammerfield is discharged, you’re in charge Ma’am.” Devers drew himself to attention, waiting for the young Ensign to give her first command. She started crossing she stopped halfway through her stride as her commbagde went off. "Doctor Solice this is med tech Palmer. I've just stumbled across something you'll want to see." “Hey Palmer, What do you have?” Quinna answered. "No ma'am it isn't a pathogen but almost certainly evidence of poisoning ma'am. You'll understand when you see it." “In my way, wait there. Solice out” Quinna could possibly go into overdramatic mods. Quinna hit one of those OMG moments as she bolted into a dead run into the temple. The stairs to the next floor were steep and seemed to multiply as she could only take one step at a time. She was suddenly there in front of Palmer. Breathing hard, “So…(panting breath, panting breath)...What…(panting breath, panting breath)...did...(panting breath, panting breath)...you...(panting breath, panting breath)...find?” Quinna finally asked, as she was trying to catch her breath. Quinna found out that she was extremely out of shape. (Reply Palmer, Jenkins) With Quinna catching her breath, “Show me.” Quinna peered at the sample. “Oh……. He made sure to hide the triumphant gloat at finding a metaphorical needle in a haystack. “How...the…” "How did it get on Bajor?: Palmer allowed a small smile to creep out before launching into the spiel. "The Cardassians brought it over during the occupation." He paused for a second then continued. "Selenium di-chloride. It is lethal to Cardy's in even small doses. I first heard of this from my father who once served on DS9. They came across the stuff in the databank on the station." He pulled up a chair for Dr. Solice then started up again. "It was originally targeted as "crowd control" via aerosol or water supplies and they "tested" it in some of their prison camps. Fortunately the Bajorans physiological differences make them somewhat resistant to anything short of a high dose of 30 cc's. Since it wasn't very effective the Cardassians abandoned the trials. It's not a stretch to believe they left some behind stashed somewhere. It doesn't break down very quickly and remains in a body or ecosystem for weeks before breaking down." (Reply: Solice iyw) He shook his head. "She didn't just happen upon this stuff. It's been out of the environment for years, someone had to introduce it to her and at such a low level it wouldn't make her sick, she would barely it. My theory is that whoever poisoned her wasn't very good at it and possibly gave it to her after she became ill. In other words it looks like someone was trying to hasten her death. Put me on the witness stand and I'll testify to it." “Alright lets rerun the test on another sample. We need to check if this is present in the others that share the same fate as the Kai.” "Excellent idea, I've already got someone collecting the samples. We should know in less than an hour. Ensign Hammerfield took the engineering drill while Lannis and he put on the SAR packs. After checking his phasers and asp were in place, he took his position on the transporter. The comforting hum of the transporter whisked them from safety to danger. As he materialized on the surface of Bajor, Devers went into danger close. Eyes moving, ears straining for anything. (Bajor – Tunnels – Security PO3 Hercules Devers - 1045) After about 100 meters or so, he came to a branch. Bending down, he looked at the area, using the tricorder to see if there was any signs. After a few seconds, the tricorder pinged. “Ensign” he said softly, “I have a bit of dried blood splatter here. Andorian blood according to the tricorder. The Lieutenant must have been injured the blast. Unfortunately, I had to almost be on top of it. These damned tunnels are messing with the tricorder at distance.” ~Not good she was injured, but if there were more splatters.~ Devers started down the tunnel again. All crew killed.] Bebe looked at Vic as the voice from Control filled the simulation chamber. “OK Raid, that’s the 10th time you have found to destroy the shuttle and kill yourself in the process. Why don’t you just accept that the Engineers and Ship Designers set the minimum standards for a reason.” “Seriously Control? You believe all that? What about military emergency launch sequences? I bet they were too lazy to try to figure those out.” “Seriously Raid? Come on, you mean the idea of launching the aerowing from a stationary ship landed on a planet is a critical mission parameter.” Vic hit the console. He was sure he was close. The last run almost made it. Looking at Bebe, “You up for another go? Check the telemetry of the last run,” he pointed to the data on the screen. “Right here is where we generate that vibration that causes the imbalance in the stabilizers throwing the maneuvering thrusters off here and here. If we can isolate the cause of that vibration, we can launch this shuttle.” Bebe looked at Vics data, and pulled it up on her own screens. “Computer replay time sequence 00.30 to 00.45. Highlight vibrational data.” The computer replayed the sequence several times, with the vibrational energies going from green to red. However, they were on the outside. “Right here Raid, it’s not the shuttle, it’s the failure of the aerodynamics here. It looks like as we drop from the ship, and get the maneuvering thrusters working that we’re causing an inversion layer, which is results in an imbalanced pressure front. That’s what’s causing the vibrations and the crashing. We’re making out own pressure front.” “I see that, good thinking Gunsmoke. How do we prevent that?” “That, Raid, is the million latinum question for you to solve Mr. Hot Shot Pilot.” “Control, reset simulation.” “Copy that. Simulation reset. Either way I canna tell what is ahead.” Penny said. Devers privately conferred with Lannis while the officers disucussed things among themselves. It was clear that tricorders were only good for a few meters at best, and it was damned lucky that they found the drops of blood. If Hammerfield was right and there was some light that could cause the Andorian blood to show up easier, he was all for it. Lannis pulled out a multispectrum light from Devers SAR pack and bent down where the blood was. “Ensign,” she said as she shined the light at the blood trail. After a few adjustments, “You had a great idea, don’t know anything about the blood either, but here it looks like it’ll shine yellow with this light.” “That’s not that bright, so well have to travel with red light” Devers replied. “We should give our eyes a rest to get accustomed to the red light.” (Reply Hammerfied, Mc Taggard, IFW) Devers put his tricorder away, and took the light from Lannis. Light in left hand, phaser in right, he started moving forward again, looking for flashes of yellow as he swept the light across the path. The going was slower, but with the light, they were able to follow a consistent trail. At each intersection, Lannis made a mark towards the bottom of the wall. (Bajor – Tunnels – Security PO3 Hercules Devers - 1152) The path turned to the right. It was clear that these tunnels were designed to confuse anyone. ~Must have come in handy during the occupation.~ Devers thought. Devers slowed his pace. Putting his hand up to signal stop, he paused. The tunnel had opened into a large chamber, probably 10 meters in diameter. There looked like a table in the room, some odd junk. As he stepped over the threshold, he heard a click. Turning around as an explosion went off, he was thrown forward, knocking over Ensign Mc Taggard. He rolled to the side, dazed and confused. (Reply Hammerfield, Mc Taggard) (Posted by Tim) (Unknown Location - Acting CEO, Ens(sg) Taya - 1055) Her head was burning, vision was blurry and her arms were clamped down. Unable to move as she awoke from a painful night, panic began to blossom in her chest. A cough escaped her mouth, but she could barely hear it. Had she gone deaf? What had that monster done to her. Remembering the torture she'd endured over the past hours, her breathing quickened and the panic took over. The pain from her cut antennae was no longer as overwhelming as it had been, but it was ever-present. She reminded herself that if rescued, or if she managed to escape they would grow back with time. Escape? What an odd thought for one locked down in a dark compressed space. What an odd thought for one with no balance to have. She'd have to crawl out and hope she had enough luck to bump into a kind soul. Time passed. How much time? She found herself wondering. It was impossible to know. Where am I? Where had she been? On the street with Paul, her ever faithful partner in crime. What had happened to him, what had happened to the team? Panic swelled once again and threatened to overwhelm her. Breathe. Another few minutes passed. Had the rest of her team also been captured? Going through this same torture, or had she been the only one to survive the booby trapped bomb? For, she was sure, that's what it had been. There was no way, the conduits that she'd been handling had enough power in them to blow up in the way they had. So now if she could escape, she needed to spend a little time looking for her team before making the big crawl away. She sighed. Was that a sound? She tried to move her head. PAIN. The raw nubs on the top of her head brushed against something hard. Trapped. More time passed, she could begin to hear her own breaths. A loud clunk echoed, somewhere outside and somewhere in the distance. Footsteps? She thought she could hear footsteps. How did this happen? After some thought, she concluded that becoming an Engineer on the Illuminar had put her in this situation. As a Tactical officer, it seemed unlikely she'd be tied down, trapped in the dark. She was trying to avoid thinking or notioning towards her stomach. Aware that she could be being watched by her torturer, she didn't want to give him the knowledge she wanted to guard in the hope of an escape. Tears began to roll down her face. Time is a funny thing. How long had she been awake? 5 minutes or 12 hours? Footsteps. Definitely. The sound of a lock being opened and then suddenly LIGHT. Her eyes struggled to focus for a moment as she saw the outline of a man staring down at her. "Ah. Good." the voice said, this was her captor. "You're awake. Just in time." What did he mean by that? Her eyes focused on the two antennae he'd stuck to his head in some strange way. It took a full moment to realise that they once belonged on her head. A wave of sickness erupted through her body. "I'm sorry you've had to go through this." the man said without sounding particularly apologetic. "This will be over, very soon. You will be the sacrifice which helps the rebirth of Bajor. The forced messenger of the new prophets." he paused, "Thank-you and good-bye." A sharp pain in the side of her neck and then once again she drifted into darkness. I’m going to push the port maneuvering thrusters at full when we clear the drop. You count out when we’ve fallen 5 meters. I’m going to angle the port thrusters 45 degrees downward angle. This should start us up. After a 5 second burst, I’ll fire the top thrusters to push us further away from the ship before resetting the port thrusters. If I’m right, this will put us about 30 meters off the starboard side of the Illuminar, with a 90-relative angle. From there, fire aft thrusters and use the bottom thrusters to put us level.” “All in 15 seconds?” “Give or take.” “This works, we’ll call it the Raid Release,” Bebe said, “Get your own maneuver named after you.” “Don’t kid the maestro when he’s working.” (USS Illuminar- Deck 10, Main Shuttle Bay – Pilot Vic ‘Raid’ Montero – 1105) “Flight control, this is Hillary. Changing the angle of the thrusters, the shuttle started up at a diagonal.’ “Four meters… Three meters… two meters. One meter. Plus one meter. Plus two meter.” Vic activated the top thrusters while feathering the port one. Soon the Hillary was off the starboard side of the ship, and as predicted, 90 degrees relative to the ship. “You got it Raid,” Bebe said. “Not yet. Finishing maneuver. Bringing shuttle to parallel to surface.” Vic made a few more tweaks of the thrusters and soon the Hillary was at 0 degrees relative to the Illuminar and moving away while gaining altitude. “I’ll be a son of a gun,” came the call from the flight control. “Looks like I’m buying tonight there Raid.
