You… how? I've tried for so long…" Erin glanced at the plant on her desk and sighed happily. The memory of the aroma from her family's farm where the flowers grew in the yard filled her nostrils and she sighed happily. “ Actually it was all to do with the soil.Ya see at first I though the Exeter’s wee gravity. Was causing the problem. With the Lapageria being essentially a climbing plant. Then I remembered it is also known as the national flower of Chile. It grows mainly in the Central Valley of the country. The soil there has some unique nutrients. Whoever planted the ones on your families farm. Must of added them to the soil. When they planted it.” He explained "Thankyou. Seriously, Thankyou Ensign. Oh, whilst I remember… I received a communique from Starfleet. We have a returning crewmate joining our team. Ensign Adala Michaels. " In Stan’s head he tried to not only remember her face. But also if she was someone he had upset. When he was in Tac/Security. “ That’s great news.” Stan said "She'll be meeting us on Risa. I'll arrange a meeting with you all. Call it a science department drink. Perhaps get in touch with the Risan government and see if they would allow us to take some samples, cuttings etc. To see if they have any medicinal benefits. But, before you do take any back on board, you must run it by me. I will need to inform the Captain if we are bringing anything on board and run a full scan to make sure there are no contaminants." She pressed the buzzer and entered as she was called. (reply Stan) (Risa– Suraya Bay Resort, Beach - Spc Lt jg Greta Smith &ACFO, Lt(jg) Trinity Frost - 1403) Sitting on the beach, Greta closed her eyes and sighed. The last three weeks had brought into sharp focus some things for her that she hadn't realised. The last three weeks had also been tinged with shame. Shame because of how she had allowed her emotions, specifically her anger, get the better of her at the cost of her relationship. At a moment when she should have been more understanding, more calm, she had flared, let her anger take over and it had cost her. The realisation of this had hit her hard. After a particularly difficult conversation with Ire, she had admitted her failing. Admitted that she had led with her heart and not her head and apologised. As she had said to him, she was sorry for her actions and promised to give him space and time. And she had stayed away. Stayed away from him and, in the few eventualities when they had crossed paths, she had been civil. Taking this time as a learning curve, Greta had also begun to see the counselling team on a twice weekly basis. To understand where the anger had come from and how to deal with it. How to chanel it, recognise it and how to not react rashly. During one of these conversations, the talk had turned to her past, things that she had not talked about for a long time. The work she had been doing had impacted on her duties and she was calmer, more focused and able to deal with the high stress that came with being a tactical bridge officer. The counselor had helped her realise that the anger had been controlling her. She was still the same person she had always been. Still the same 'McHavok' but now more able to use reason in her thinking. It was during this time that she had rediscovered a love for dancing. When she danced, Greta forgot the world, forgot the stress and shame over her actions and was just able to be. One night, whilst on the holodeck with a fellow officer, he had suggested to her a form of dance that would help channel her emotions and work them out in a healthy way. Unsure of this, she had been reluctant at first but soon found that he had been right. Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art that fused music, dance and acrobatics had become a firm favourite. Allowing her to work out, dance and get fitter whilst allowing her a safe way to express her anger. Smiling to herself as she stood on the sand, Greta fixed a small set of in ear headphones into her ears, set her music to play and began moving. Using high kicks and a series of sweeping movements, she instantly lost herself in the rhythm and the moves, feeling at peace as she moved. Trinity had left the bar a while ago, deciding that if she didn’t, then she’d make a similar fool of herself as she had on DS9, whoever that had been. She sighed happily, considering her position. The girl that had left home with just a change of pants had come a long way, and although her attitude hadn’t changed, her confidence, and her persona had grown, and blossomed. She’d made some good friends on the way too, ~one of whom seems to be…~ Stopping to watch, she rested on a low wall, the sun bouncing gloriously of her rich, auburn hair. Not realising that she was being watched, Greta stopped for a moment, breathing heavily and wiped sweat from her forehead. Taking the ear buds she had been using to listen to music with out of her ears, she turned, saw Trinity and jumped a little, "Don't sneak up on someone like that." “If you’re in the middle of a fight, they’ve run off and you won.” She said to Greta. When she’d arrived at mars, short on flight hours to qualify for a rating on the peregrine and Valkyries, Greta had stepped in, and taken her under her wing; the two of them becoming fast friends. Laughing, Greta walked to her friend’s side and perched on the wall. Grabbing a drink of water from her bag, she looked at her friend. The younger woman who had been unsure of herself and everything when they had first met was now a confident woman. "It's not fighting. Not really. Capoeira. It's a fusion of martial arts, dance and music. It's… helped me a lot these past few weeks." “I heard you had a time of things. You okay slick?” Trinity asked, removing her sunglasses, and tucking them in her bikini top, so she could properly talk to Greta. “Sorry I haven’t come to see you, just not had time, what with...well. Everything.” With Lieutenant Williams being in the brig, her and Ronnie had picked up a lot of extra bridge duty. It was one of the reasons that they’d both been promoted. Sighing, Greta took a sip of her water, "I won't lie and say it was nothing. What happened, shouldn't have done. Paying for it now. But, I'm dealing with it. For the most part." Trinity nodded. “Look, you helped me when no one else did; I’d be a poor friend if I didn’t return that. If you really need to vent?” "Vent is not the right word. I'm seeing the counselor right now. " Greta responded, looking out to the ocean. A heavy sigh betrayed her calm exterior as she saw Ire’s face flash in her mind. “I understand.” Trinity said. “So long as you are, and you’re doing you.” She said, Greta was always so strong. “You move well, as much as I know about it, you dance much?” "Ballroom mainly. But this has been a lifesaver for me. I realised that I'm quick to anger. Hard to believe I know." She said with a slight smile. “You?” she said. “Never… I won’t hear that said against you.” She smiled. "You would be the first one." She replied. “So...what’s the plan? Have you spoken to…?” Greta shook her head, "Not for two weeks or so. Sure, we have exchanged pleasantries but, spoke? Not really. He needs space. I do. I'm not good to be with right now." “That...sounds arse about face…” Trinity said. She’d settled and blossomed, her true nature had grown. “Now I know you don’t mean that to mean that this is in some way down to you?” " A good part of it is. He went through something… I could have stood by and I chose to slap him. Not right. Not right at all." “No that bit wasn’t. I notice you’re not wearing your ring. Why don’t you tell me what happened. You're fiery sure...but not so much that everything is on you without extreme stress.” So, greta told her. Told her the whole tale. ".... so, I slammed it on the table saying that when he knew what he wanted, he could give it back to me and I left… " she sighed and looked down at her feet. Trinity grimaced. “He actually said that...in those words?” "Then I guess it's for worse…. Yeah. Still, shouldn't have done what I did. Let my heart rule my head." “Greta...I appreciate that I don’t know him really that well, but he adores you...we all know that. That doesn’t sound like him.” Trinity sighed to herself internally. So much was happening today, and she was either too many drinks in or way way too few to make sense of it all. “Anything you need from me? Other than friendship and support?” "Time. I feel lost, Trin. But, I'll get there. I've fought my whole life to get where I am. Only daughter with two brothers. Fought to become a pilot and now, I don’t have that. But, maybe I will find a different me. A better me. In answer to your question, time and a shoulder. That's what I need." Trinity, by nature wasn’t a very tactile, huggy type person. Her parents had loved her in their way, but outward gestures of affection were rare. However she could fully feel what Greta was going through, and pulled the older woman into a gentle hug. "I'm always around for you to lean on. You know that." She whispered, giving her a sisterly kiss on the cheek. Smiling softly, Greta looked at the younger woman and nodded, "I know. I do." Sitting straighter Greta dropped an arm around her shoulder and smiled, "So, any fun for you?" Trinity shrugged, I'm...I'm happy. Just strolling. There's a secluded bay down the way, I'm going to get some sun to my pasty white backside. Then this evening…might hit the more lively bars " "Sounds like fun. " "Yeah...I know I don't hunt but...Honey Badgers on the prowl." She winked outrageously. "You?" "No prowling. Not for me. Gonna head back up soon. Need a shower before bridge duty." “Bad times.” Trinity said, mock scowling. “I have one tomorrow” she said frowning. “Look, when we’re both free next, we’ll do something. Maybe get some underwater kit and check out the reefs?” "Sounds good." “I’ll let you carry on with your dancing. Take care won’t you.” Trinity said, giving Greta another sisterly peck on the cheek before stepping away and walking down the beach. Smiling as she watched her friend walk away, Greta sighed. She knew that she had penance to pay. Knew that, For a lot of the crew, she had been the bad guy and they were right. So, she stood and picked up her bag and said to no-one in particular, "Maybe this is the start of my redemption arc." Smiling at that thought, she tapped her combadge and said, "Smith to Exeter. One to beam up." (Reply none) (Risa - Galartha, Rock climbing area - CMO, Lt Gabe Vespers and ACFO, Lt. Ronnie Winters - 1500) “How you doing champ.” Ronnie said as she walked over to where Gabe was. “Are you ready to cimb.” Ronnie was ready to go, dressed in her rock climbing gear, which was a big departure from the bikini she was rocking on the beach earlier. She wasn’t much of a rock climber, but it was Gabe’s idea and she wanted to spend time with him. Her empathic abilities weren’t strong, but she could tell that something was off with him, so while they were on Risa she made a promise to herself. She would do whatever Gabe wanted. "Ready to go, shouldn't take more than a few hours. I've got a little picnic for when we get to the top, nothing elaborate, so if you need to shoot off, you can." Gabe smiled his always fake smile ~because you always just leave~. “Nah, I don’t have anything else to do, except be here with you.” She said with a sweet smile. Gabe grabbed the kit and started unpacking checking everything over and over again "you do know how to use these?" He asked handing her a harness. “I think so.” She said trying to put the harness on. "Well this one goes here" he harnessed Ronnie up, making sure to run his hands over the harness and grip her waist. Not as an advance but as a show he would protect her from the climb. “Thanks.” She said cheerily. “Here we are, together in paradise. You ready to go?” "I was born ready Ronnie" Gabe took the guide rope and tied them together "I'll lead off, then if you want you can lead for a bit, then I can admire the view" Gabe laughed It was a genuine laugh, he enjoyed Ronnie and she always had a habit of relaxing him enough to forget his troubles. Picking up the pics he thrust them onto the rock and started the climb. “You would love to stare at my ass, wouldn’t you Gabe.” she said with a chuckle. "You know me too well, now focus for a bit, let the rock know you're here and you're not afraid of it." The wind had picked up a little as they continued up the rock face coming to a little ledge Gabe took a moment to look around as Ronnie caught up. ~one step~ he shook his head and took a deep breath taking in the sharpness of the air. As Ronnie arrived the the ledge he smiled at her and handed her a small water flask from his belt. "Take three seconds, one for the water, one for the view and one for me" “Only three seconds. Either you disvalue how much I need water, or you don’t realize how cute you are.” She said with a laugh and took a drink of the water. "Metaphorical, but water is very important, but you don't need me to tell your that" Gabe laughed and touched Ronnie slightly “Do you climb often?” Gabe sat on the edge, his legs dangling over the edge. "I used to on earth, all the time, some great views when I was growing up it was the only thing that kept me sane, maybe I should start again" “You never really share much about your childhood you know.” She said as she reached out and grabbed his hand. He sighed, "it's a long story, I was brought up believing my dad had died in a blaze of glory, it was just me and mum. Although some childhood memories of Ailynn, that picture on my desk is a summer we spent together, although none of us knew we were siblings. Our parents did, some childhood being lied to all the time, then we just stopped hanging." “Sounds like the Bracken way. Gran, Dale, I mean, isn’t as bad as Aimee, but the Brackens can be as bad about secrets as Romulans.” She squeezed his hand. “I’m sorry that you grew up not knowing you had family.” Gabe looked at Ronnie and held tighter. "We all have secrets, keeps the world moving, talking of moving, this mountain won't climb itself, you ready to lead?" “You know. I didn’t really know my family either. But I now have a second chance to know my mom and dad. Of course they aren’t really my mom and dad. Genetically sure, but not in this timeline. But I’m not gonna waste the opportunity to have the family I always wanted.” "Alternate timeline babies, another Bracken trait." Gabe laughed “Don’t waste the time you have with Ailynn. Enjoy every moment with her. You have family now.” She said as she stood up and began to start the lead as they made the way to the top. Following on Gabe lifted off the platform, the wind had died down a little trying not to look up that much Gabe was given his cue “How’s the view?” "Breathtaking, just makes me wanna reach out and grab nature in all its natural goodness" “You can look, but don’t touch. Well not until we get to the top. Don’t want to fall.” She said. “So natural goodness, is that all you got?” "Well you asked, I'm not a poet you know! But the experience is very well rounded. Won't be long until the top, but be careful rounding up, you'll be heading outwards soon, plus the air'll be getting thin." “Heading outwards, Gabriel Vesper, did you just call me fat.” She said giggling. "No I called you well rounded" he laughed again, the weight of the world slipping away. Gabe felt the softness of the rock under his hand "be careful, some of the face isn't stable" “Now you’re calling me ugly.” She laughed again, to show she was joking as she kept on climbing. "Typically you Ronnie" “Hey I forgot to ask, are you staying on the planet or on the Exeter?” "Oh I'm here, I don't plan on going back to the Exeter until departure, I've got a hut booked on the beach front, I need the time off after being stuck in my quarters. You?" Gabe took a deep breath as the air thinned “Don’t know yet. I think Mom and dad have an extra room, might crash there. I’d crash with Ailys, but I think she’s bunking with Caity, so...who knows. Maybe I’ll just sleep on the beach.” She said with a smile. “Any big vacation plans?” "I have a date with Ailynn but I plan on cooking most nights if you want to help?" “Ummm, of course.” She said smiling. She then paused to catch her breath before climbing some some more. “I love cooking.” "So do I, I'm hoping the sunset inspires some fusion." Gabe realised what he said but let it hang anyway “How much further towards the top?” "Just over that ledge and you should be there" “Perfect. My arms are getting tired. I’m built like a model not an athlete.” She said with a smile. Gabe watched as the pair reached the top. He walked slowly taking in each footstep, each breath, he was in heaven. The air blew his hair, the smell drifting up from the beaces filled his nose turning he saw Ronnie taking off her harness. "I love you too Ronnie." “Gabe?” she asked. “Is everything ok? I just...it’s a feeling I have. Like something with you is off.” He swallowed "just a few bad days is all, the inferior feelings coming and going. I just need a break. Why?" “Just… just you feel off. I’m not a full empath, but sometimes, I get, whiffs. Not like smells, but small sensations, and well just...feels like you have a rain cloud over your heart. And I’m just worried about you that’s all..” Gabe looked at her for a moment and wondered what had gone wrong, it was probably Ronnie getting used to Gabe more than anything else. He set the back down from his back and spread out the blanket, sitting down he tapped the floor "Ronnie, it's just a rough time of year and being couped up with only your thoughts for a few days is pretty depressing.” “Well you don’t have to handle them alone. I’m more than happy to listen, to be here, to help with your burdens. We’re a team, Gabe. A good one. Team Goonie.” "You need to work on a new name, look, I'm fine, tired but fine." He wanted to say how dark his thoughts had been but knew she would run if he did. He wasn't sure she really did feel for him what she said she did. But that could be his mind. “Well, I’m not gonna pry. Whether you’re fine or not fine. It’s not my place to force you to share when you aren’t ready.” She took his hand, “When you are, I’ll be here.” Gabe looked at her again, why did she stay, he was a horrible person who had a worse reputation but she kept coming back. He squeezed her hand longer than he needed to, but deep down hoped it was long enough to send a silent message ~thank you~ "Now, I took the liberty of getting champagne, sandwiches, somewhere in here are some olives and I got some haspirate, because, tradition. Oh and I got a transporter on stand by so we don't need to climb down tipsy. Tart?" Gabe hesitated for the joke and eventually handed her a tart. “Why thank you.” Se said taking the tart. “And good call on the transporter. I’m pooped.” She said as she took a bite and then laid down on her back with one hand behind her head like a pillow. “And thank you for not getting synthehol. Probably the worst invention ever.” Gabe took the moment in, he made sure to take every moment and locked it away in his mind. He laid down and clinked the glasses. "Yeh, sometimes only the hard stuff will do. Do you ever wonder what your life would be like if you weren't here?" Gabe suddenly realised who he was asking as soon as he asked.it. “Yeah. My gran would still be alive. I’d probably be in Starfleet. But the world would be sadder. They’d be 20 years past a cataclysmic event in which the majority of live in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants were wiped out. People still moving forward. Klingons in the Federation, believe it or not. Tragedy is a great unifier. Who knows where my life would be. But I don’t think I’d be as complete, as whole.” "Go on" Gabe deflected back “I came to this time as a scared 18 year old, with some of the making of who I would become sure, but my time in this timeline made me confident, self assured, and me. I became who I am because of being here. So would I even be me back there? Plus I have my mom and dad here, Trip even taught me how to play baseball. Plus, you’re here. And that is definitely a plus.” "You're deluded if you think I make a difference" Gabe laughed, covering the truth. He refilled the glasses and took a triangle of sandwich the corners of the red and white cloth blowing in the breeze. "It's annoying everything has to be just perfect here, there's something about rain I find refreshing, but Risa won't get any." Looking at Ronnie he took the plunge "you can always stay in my hut, there's a spare bed, that's if daddy will let you stay out past curfew." “I don’t have a curfew, you ass.” She smiled. “You know he likes you right. He thinks you are prickly and too grumpy for your own good, but he genuinely likes you. Not because we’re dating or because you’re Ailynn’s sister, but because he thinks you’re good people. His words, good people.” The comments gave Gabe a little boost, he was happy to hear it was him and not his family that gave him status on the ship. "Fairly the crew is ok, I just prefer to work alone, everyday is a new lesson I guess" Gabe said sipping the drink. “I mean you put up a front, but I think that’s because you’re afraid to let anyone know the real you. The you I know, the you I hope to know more about. If you’d let me, if you’d let all of us. I get that, you know, there are things you want to keep hidden or maybe you’re afraid to be vulnerable, but there are those of us who don’t think you’re the cold grump everyone says you are.” "Ha, you've figured me out then, I protect myself because I've never had anyone else too. I guess inside I'm just a scared little boy wanting to get out. But it's a big thing, one second I'm an emergency doctor, the next im running two departments; one of which I know nothing about. But I guess I have some people around to support" Gabe smiled, he considered for a very brief moment to turn off the implant, but knowing Ronnie was an empath he didn't want to scare her. It was clear that somthing wasn't right with it as she kept pushing the subjects of opening up. Clearly Gabe needed to hide more, he needed to think and balance things up. “That’s the thing though. You have people and support. So you don’t have to be some gruff person around us.” ~around me.~ She thought to herself. "Amazing people yes, totally closed off though" Gabe looked away and across the sea “It’s obvious this is a touchy subject. I’ll drop it.” "I'm just not used to being the patient, sorry" “View is amazing though.” Gabe looked back at Ronnie. He placed a hand on her cheek "yeh, it is" She kissed Gabe and smiled, "me or the planet?" Leaning in Gabe looked again "both" "Gabe," she said with a caring tone. "Sorry if I treat you like a patient. I just care thats all. I just want you to feel free around me. But I get it. Your whole life you've been lied to. You were given the crap end of the stick. Ailynn got the glamour. So I'm gonna stop prying. I trust you and you'll open up when you're ready." "Move along now" Gabe smiled and sat a little closer to her "So what’s next in your bag of tricks. You have me all alone in paradise." "Exactly where I wanted you" Gabe laughed and kissed her again his hand running up her leg as they both lay back. (Reply none) (Risa Suraya bay, botanical gardens- CTO/3O Lieutenant commander Ravok & Civilian Ashlyn Williams- 1510) Ravok beamed into the botanical gardens where Ash was. He spotted her and approached. " How are you?" Ashlyn looked up, pulling her attention away from the exotic flower in front of her, to see Commander Ravok near her. “Ravok.” she smiled, lifting herself up, placing a hand at her lower back. “How are you sweetie?” Ravok watched her stand. " Are you ok ?" He asked out of concern. “I’m fine, just walking upright and pregnancy do not go hand in hand.” she smiled. “What can I do for you?” " I spoke with Trip a few minutes ago. I asked him for a favor , a personal one. " “Oh? What do you need?” " I need someone to watch Rayna tomorrow night he said yes but to ask you. I guess he needed his bosses final approval " She giggled, and motioned down the path, resting her arm in his. “Hope you don’t mind. I love this place. Where I grew up there were no plants. Only at school.” " The first time I saw real plants was on Bajor, I was 9 years old. found out very quick that I had horrible allergies, but enough of that. So will the two of you do me that favor? " “Of course We’ll do that for you, we’d be honoured to help out a friend.” Ravok smiled. " That's great. I'm reserving Ozano beach for tomorrow night. It's going to have a private tent and a wait staff on call to serve our needs. I'm hoping Keira likes the idea. She tends to be pretty conservative in matters of romance." Ashlyn smiled, “If there’s one thing I know little about its Romulan Romance.” but I think all girls like to be wooed surely?” Ravok laughed. " Keira knows very little about romulan romance her father is too rigid and her mother is well … she's her mother. " “Well, what do your friends suggest? What do you feel is the thing to do?” " I tried asking Trip but he is such a ' man ' in his lack of details, how is everything going with the baby? Are you getting excited?" She touched her swelling abdomen. “Excited, scared, happy, worried, hungry; and that’s only before breakfast each morning.” She smiled. “In all honesty, I’m excited. If you were to say to me only a couple of years ago that I’d be here, surrounded by this, married and with child. I’d call you insane.” She turned to him. “How are you fairing?” Ravok sighed. " As well as I can. To be honest I'm feeling like a fish without water...I mean a fish out of water. There's so much going on you know. I'm just trying to prioritize my career and being a father. I didn't expect it and I certainly didn't expect it this way. In many ways I'm a single father. Keira has no obligation to Rayna. She self her imposes her obligations onto herself. She's great with her and the girl loves her. Rayna is my sole responsibility. I just want to make sure that I do right by her. Give her a life she can be proud of ." “You seem negative toward Kiera accepting Rayna? Or do I misunderstand?” Ravok laughed slightly. " No not at all. Keira is amazing with her. What I was saying is that Rayna is my responsibility no one elses. Everyone who offers to help me is doing so out of their own desire to help , not because of an obligation." “Ok.” She said, allowing Ravok to talk at his own pace. " Nesha ...Nesha helped me alot. She would take care of Rayna anytime of day. She taught her so much over the past few months. She's toilet trained because of her. Can count backwards from 20 and knows two different alphabets." She nodded, but said nothing, taking his hand in hers. “I wish I could say I understand, but that would be an insult. All I can say is that we, I’m always around yeah?” Ravok smiled. " Thank you and it wouldn't be an insult. We all have lost someone or something in our lives. We all deal with grief in our own ways. Who am I to say anything you or anyone else feels about loss is an insult. You and only you know your pain. " Ravok laughed. " Sorry." “No apology necessary” She smiled. " It's just that you have always had this tendency to be the 'mother' we needed from time to time. Both you and Trip are going to be amazing parents. That I'm sure of " “I hope so. The more I find out the less I know.” she chuckled. “So Rayna, what do I need to know?” " I will bring Rayna to around 1700 hours tomorrow. She is self sufficient. I will have her properly bathed and fed before her arrival. She sleeps with her Llama but if she likes you she'll let you sleep with it. She's very self sufficient." “I’ll read her some stories. I used to run a children’s story session back on Mars. “Bedtime with Ash” was quite popular.” She smiled. Ash opened her mouth and closed it again, forcing her need to interfere back down. Instead she motioned to another flower, an almost identical colour to Kiera’s eyes. “What do you think of those?” she asked innocently. Ravok looked. " Keira would love those. Should I take them? " he asked quietly “Do it...there’s no one looking…” She winked. Ravok picked a half dozen. " I gotta go, don't tell the captain " He said motioning his head towards the flowers and laughed. Smiling Ashlyn crossed her heart with a finger and giggled. “Go! Before someone sees you stealing them…see you soon.” Ravok nodded with a smile and quickly beamed up to the Exeter ( reply none) (Risa - Suraya Bay Resort - Turtle Lounge -SOPS, Lt. JG Billy Alexander and aACMO Ensign SG Heinrich Kruze - 1540) A round green building laid just off from the pool complex. The Turtle Lounge was a high class establishment often rented out for conventions and other big to do’s. It was the sort of fancy Heinrich did not care for but has to put up with for much of his life. But in his somewhat inebriated state all he saw were more libations. “H-hey, want to check out the Turtle Lounge?” He asked Billy. "Turtle lounge. I like Turtles." Billy replied. “Who doesn’t?” "Maybe they have food. It almost 1600 and we're both drunk as skunks." “Oh yeah, come to think of it I’m starving.” They approached the door the lounge. There was a fold up sign that said “Turtle Convention.” “Look at that,” Heinrich said, “they got a Turtle Convention.” "Oh my goodness. I love this planet." “Wonder if they have turtle soup.” "Wouldn't that be cannibalism?" “No, because I’m not a turtle.” Heinrich paused to think, “at least I don’t think I am a turtle.” As they approached the door the bouncer looked at them. He was a 7 foot tall humanoid turtle. Though he was neither mutant, teenaged or ninja. "Turtles only." He said. "Huh?" Billy asked. "Only those native to the planet Terrapinia may enter." “OH! Because it’s a TURTLE convention!” The bouncer looked at the good doctor with a mixture of confusion and annoyance. “Are you already drunk?” “Maybe.” Heinrich admitted sheepishly. “I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you two to leave.” The bouncer did not budge, and certainly was not one a normal human would want to tussle with. “Excuse me,” a dignified voice called from behind the off duty officers, “they are with me.” Heinrich turned around to see an elderly humanoid turtle with a monocle and scarred shell. Though Heinrich had never met a turtle man before, he immediately sensed a grandfatherly energy from him. “Yeah, we’re with him.” Heinrich quickly said. "Yes he's our grandfather. Adopted of course." Billy said giddy as a school girl. "Right cousin?" Heinrich’s grin was as wide as a Cheshire Cat. “Of course!” "Shall we gramps?" Billy snorted Even the elderly turtle was laughing, “yes, yes, come children.” He led them triumphantly through the door much to the bouncer’s chagrin. Inside was a spacious bar filled with greens and browns. The bar itself looked like it was made of emerald. There were humanoid turtles of various sizes and ages walking about, all looking very dignified and important. After soaking the scene in Heinrich turned to his new adoptive grandfather “Thank you for letting us in Mr…” “Turtle. You can call me Mr. Turtle.” He said. "That seems oddly…." Before he said something stupid Billy nodded. "So what can we do for you Mr. Turtle?" “I’m glad you asked, why don’t we sit down.” Mr Turtle directed Billy and Heinrich to a booth near a window. It took him a while to fit himself in comfortably. But once he did he gave his speel. “It’s not all sunshine and roses on Terrapinia I’m afraid. I’m involved in, well, it doesn’t matter the specifics. It won’t matter the specifics as long as I have you around. What I want you to do is stay around me. Make it look like I have a Starfleet entourage. In return, you can have all the booze you want on me.” Heinrich’s face positively glowed. "I mean, we're already pretty drunk as is. We should probably sober up " “We can eat first. I’ll buy you whatever you want.” "And I need a full contract stating what we're getting and why and intricate details on what exactly it is you need us for, why you need us, and what you need protection from. Or else no deal Squirtle " Mr. Turtle stared at Billy. There was no malice. No fear. A poker face. Heinrich nudged Billy and whispered “c’mon man, free booze.” "I may be a slacker, a joker, a midnight toker, but I'm no fool. I want a contract and I want it sent on a priority communication to my attorney Williams S. Alexander esq. On earth for confirmation." “Well I certainly have no time for that.” Mr. Turtle said. “I guess, then, I’ll have to ask for you to leave.” "Then I guess we have no deal." “I’m afraid not. Oh well.” "Anything to add Kruzey?" He hated being called Kruzey. “... #$%@ you.” (Reply none) ( USS Exeter - Bridge - Lt Jg Greta Smith - 1600) After returning from Risa, showering and changing back into her uniform, Greta had grabbed a small bite to eat and now walked onto the bridge to begin her shift. As she relieved the in duty tactical officer, she stood at the console and sighed. As much as she had enjoyed being on Risa, being back on the ship and doing her duty shift felt like home. The last few weeks, she had found a new zest for her work, an ability to focus on what was needed of her and what she needed of herself. Taking a breath, she began to run diagnostics on the weapons systems. Making sure that they were operating at peak efficiency was a priority. Even though there was a skeleton crew on board and most of the command staff were on Risa, she knew that she had something to prove. That she wasn't what the ships gossipers had her pegged as, that she was and would always be a capable officer first and foremost. (Reply any on bridge) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Conference Center- CO, Captain Trip Williams and Civilian Addison Queen- 16:04) After his run, Trip had showered, changed, and made his way to the conference center. He was wearing sandals, khaki slacks and a white linen button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He wasn’t looking forward to being in a lecture, but it was the sacrifice he was willing to make so that his crew could unwind. Of course he was weary with the romantic atmosphere in the air, and was a bit worried about how many messy interpersonal dynamics were about to be created. The issue between Ire and Greta was lingering on his mind. It was a rather public breakup, and while it didn’t disrupt Greta’s workflow, it had caused Ire to lash out, punch both Ravok and Trip, and spend 21 days in the brig. But on a ship of 500 people, hook ups were going to happen. It was inevitable. Still as he walked through the conference center lobby, and walked by a giant dance floor with people his age, scantily clad, having fun, he couldn’t help but feel like a giant bore. He wanted to ride jet skis, swim with Risan sharks, play with monkeys, bungee jump. But he had work to do. He hadn’t felt that itch in awhile, but as he walked through the conference center, he couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if he was young and not tied down. Could he pick up any stranger on the planet? He sat down at the lobby bar for a Risan Sangria when he noticed a familiar face. “Addison, hey, what are you doing in the conference center lobby?” Addison turned delicately, somehow, the top half facing him before her legs. Even then, they swung round with a grace that belied her station. “Oh! Please...forgive me Captain. I come here as the bar is open all evening, the art is reflective, and once all of you are in your silly conference, I have the entire building to myself.” “I guess it does have the shortest line at the bar. How’s your vacation?” She motioned around. “It’s amazing. I’ve seen beaches aplenty, but I love these kind of things, it’s a far cry from what I grew up with.” She smiled carefully. “Yeah, and what was that, if I can ask?” Addison’s face drifted out of the room. “Pictures that everyone deemed ‘perfect’, but all of them lacking expression.” She waved around. “Same subject, but all of them are so different in their execution. It’s beautiful.” She looked at the Captain. “I’m sorry, i lose myself. Are you okay?” “Sorry, just trying to get some exciting questions out before the conference. I hate conferences. Sure I am a science major, astrometrics, lots of boring lectures there, I cut my teeth with flight missions. No need to go to conferences when you are flying valkyries.” Addison smiled. “You’re a fish out of water.” she observed. “Here.” She handed her drink over. “I’ve not touched it.” “So what are we drinking?” “Something I read about. ‘Risan vodka, Trillian Ultra-dry Vermouth, a shot of lilet blanc and Terran Sicilian Lemon peel.’ I’ve had nine of them, the barman keeps looking at me really weirdly.” Addison looked puzzled at the Captain. “Are you drunk Addison?” Trip asked as he took a sip of the drink.” “No.” She shook her head demurely, “not yet. What do you think?” “It’s tasty.” He said smiling. “May I talk to you Captain?” she asked. “Isn’t that we are doing right now.” “You seem like...Ah...what’s the expression? Like you’re stuck ‘twixt a rock and a hard place?” “Well I’m the youngest one here. Only took it because I had to and wanted my guys to have a break. Everyone is running around scantily clad, and I’m here in a conference with a very pregnant wife in a bungalow a few meters to the west. And I’m wondering, man, why did I never come here single.” Trip took another sip. Addison raised an eyebrow. “I am single, believe me, this place is a blast but it’s all an illusion.” She regarded him. “Do I smell regrets? Even over the over-shaken vermouth?” She lifted her glass, and sunk number ten. “Sorry, I love my wife. Just, feeling my age. Young and stuck.” “Permission to speak to you informally?” “Shoot.” He said trying not look lower then her eyeline. It was hard because he was so much taller. “Strikes me that everyone wants what others have? Possess? It’s...basic biological necessity, procreational need. Puritanical morals were a method of control.” She motioned to the people around them. “So what you’re saying I should dip my wick in more than one wax?” “You’re worried about being an old man in a young man’s body.” “Well when you have a young heart and mind, in this body, yeah.” “Here’s what you need to do...may I whisper?” she moved closer, her chest pressing briefly against his, her breath on his ear. “Don’t let it go stale.” “Excuse me?” he whispered back, unsure what she was talking about. ~Is she hitting on me? Am I hitting on her?~ Addison nodded to the barman as she stepped away, regarding him. “A lady likes knowing that she’s desirable, no matter what.” she winked, then turned, every step supermodel perfect, a foot placed along a line with the previous. Curious Trip followed her. But also, he felt like he needed to set boundaries. Had he been single, they’d probably be in a closet somewhere, or a quick beam up to the Exeter. But he wasn’t, he was married, and he was feeling guilty for how alluring he found her. “Addison, err Miss Queen wait up.” “Trip?” She turned and regarded him, her skirt twirling around her upper thigh. ~Don’t look, don’t look.~ “We umm, need to talk.,..about boundaries.” “I don’t understand?” Addison flicked her eyes up. “I thought you were asking for…” she nudged her head. “Advice?” “I do. I mean I did. I mean yes. But...just look. We’re both two very attractive people. But I have a very pregnant wife. Whom I love dearly. Who is your boss. And while you are easy to talk to and we could surely be friends, some of your advice is well...suggestive, and I can’t tell if your, coming on to me.” “Captain...I...don’t…” she looked at him “And I’m an empath, and I know….emotions. Just want you to know, as much as I value your company and advice, your insight. This, you and I, not gonna happen. So boundaries. Unless I totally misread this.” ~But I didn’t I can sense her emotions. But at the same time, they’re off. Like they’re here, but not.~ “I’ve been a bother, and I’m sorry, I thought that I could help you.” she blushed horribly. “Please forgive me.” “No wait.” He said, feeling guilty, maybe he had misread her. “I should go. I’ve upset you.” she looked at him, then half turned. “My...apologies.” she smiled gently, before swinging around and stepping back toward the bar. “Hey look, its on me anyways. I misread. I’m sorry. I’ll let you get to it. But I misread. Sorry for being a pig.” Trip extended his hand. She took his hand, “If she were me?” “Yes?” Smiling with some naughtiness, “spice it up, let her out for the evening, and try and pick her up. Let loose. If you lose and not pull her, you still get the girl, but you have to work for her…” she smiled. “That could work.” He smiled. “Anyways, I need to go sign in. Thank you.” “Have fun Captain.” “And Addison, have fun. For the both of us.” “I will Captain.” she picked up the drink that the barman had passed her “L'chaim.” Addison turned to the barman. “Do you know anything? Never shake a mix of spirits, STIR ONLY!” ~I'm surrounded by incompetants~ (Reply none) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Conference Center- CO, Captain Trip Williams and FO, Ailynn Bracken- 16:45) After talking with Addison, Trip was feeling unsure of his place when he spotted his FO, for the time being, from across the hall. Running up to her, he smiled. “Back row or front row? Where are we sitting?” Ailynn motioned. “Toward the back, but not all the way, I want to be able to see, but not be too close that we’re looking right up the lecturers nose.” She looked around the room at the other attendees, smiling a greeting to a few of them, recognising a couple of faces here and there. “Hey listen, I don’t mean to pry, but any thoughts on the Hood yet?” “I think that I’m going to accept it…” she said quietly "Oh...congrats...I guess?" “However five minutes ago I was going to turn it down and in five minutes time I’ll be doing the same. I just...I hate this." "You could just flip a coin?" She laughed,“don’t tempt me. Maybe I should have stayed in medicine, back there it was simple brain surgery.” Ailynn said somewhat whimsically "Not Sure I'd call brain surgery simple." Trip laughed. She looked down a couple of rows of seats to a slightly older woman, perhaps mid 30s. “Hi again. You okay?” The woman nodded a yes, smoothed her skirt under her and sat down. "You know her?" Tril asked. “Oh, she was in the head with me, ended up with her skirt tucked into her panties. Rather fabulous zebra print.” "Sounds like we both had exciting afternoons." “Oh?” she asked. "Ravok beamed down to ask me a question and miscalculated my speed and I ran him over." Laughing gently, Ailynn let him carry on. "I'm also unsure, but I kind of think one of the waitresses at the Starlight Lounge wants to get into my pants." “Oh? Who?” She asked. “Actually don’t answer that, I’d be forced to tell Ash, or she’d trick it out of me or something.” "I May be wrong. And I set boundaries. I think. I'll tell Ash. Better from me." “I know. I was teasing. I trust you.” "I had game once. Only girl I hit on that never said yes was you. So i guess if she's into me I'm flattered." She looked at him, and shook her head. “Waaay too much information, but yeah not my type I’m afraid.” "Real talk, being a captain is great, but one risk at our age, it forces you to go from 23 to 40 overnight. Figuratively speaking. Food for thought." “I know, and I know it isn’t the same thing, but First Officer was more of a shock to the system, I always thought it was a top down job...but it’s like the entire Ships command structure pivots on the FO. lower ranks up, through me to you, and vica versa.” "You'd have a great FO. You know Chris from school. He's a good officer. Even if he is my cousin." “I remember him.” She sighed, and cast her eyes around the room again. "You tell your mom?" Ailynn shook her head. “Haven’t spoken to her in a few days. I told Caity earlier. At the moment, her and you are the only people whose opinion I worry about at the moment.” "I get that. I honestly didn't tell Ash until I said yes. So you're a step ahead of me." “It isn’t that I’m worried that I can’t do it...I know that I can. That’s the weird bit. It’s…” "You should talk to your mom. She had a ship, gave it up. So did Dale." Ailynn nodded. “Yeah I know, same one ironically. I went onboard just before we left Mars. Sat in her seat and read her last logs. I know I have to talk to mum, I think we just lock horns a little sometimes.” "You should definitely catch up. One because she loves you, two because she's wise even though she can be cranky and three because my Dad told me your mom Just moved in with her boyfriend." She turned to him, and shot him a half hearted death stare. “I don’t need a reminder that my mum is getting more action than I am.” she chuckled. “I will, there’s a lot I need to work through first. Besides, better than average chance that all the Admirals already know and have a sweepstake on it.” Trip laughed. "Have you met the guy. Really interesting story." “Briefly, and chatted to him a few times when I called mum. Seems okay.” "Good. He's...he could be good for your relationship with Aimee. A buffer for you. A stabilizer for her. Anyways enough about that." “I hope that this is as interesting as the brochure suggested.” Ailynn said as she looked round the room. She watched the crowd, seeing that there were very different responses from everyone. Some bored already, some reading through the course material intensely, some chatting amongst themselves. She noticed though that some were looking around, like her, themselves reading the room, the reaction of other participants. Trips cousins and pants lady amongst them. "I have comics loaded on my comm device. I'll be ok." He said with a wink. She laughed, her mood lightening rapidly. “You never disappoint me, do you know that.” she nudged him with her shoulder. "Is that a challenge?" “You are not tricking me into daring you to do stuff again. I think the shouting at I got from mum is still causing Tinitus.” She smiled. “Why? You after a double-dare no backsies?” she bickered gently, amused. "Nope. Just don't Like dealing with absolutes." “Ah...of course.” she sighed. "Well, looks like people are going in. Ready to be bored?" “I really want you to be wrong on this one but I have a really odd feeling in my water that it’s going to be a shuttle wreck” Ailynn sighed. "Quick shot before we go in?" Ailynn shook her head. “I’m sober this evening. Taking Caity to dinner later, and she and I need a very serious chat...about...well. You know.” "Hood. Got it " He winked. "Well shall we." Ailynn nodded, “Yeah lets go.” (Reply none) (Earth - Starfleet HQ - DirAeroCmd Adm Dale Bracken - 1705) Dale sat down with a sigh at her desk, so many thoughts and worries on her mind. SHe picked up a picture off her desk, with herself and Aimee, both in uniform, flanking Ailynn, newly promoted to Commander. From what scuttlebut she had heard, maybe for not much longer. She was so proud of both her daughter and granddaughter, but she worried deeply about Ailynn. She’d always been such a driven girl, thankfully though, it seemed that she had begun to settle, and allow herself to be distracted from relentless work. “Evers.” she called out, “get me a channel to the cabin where Ailynn is staying please?” Her aide nodded, and opened a channel, making the connections. “You know she’s at the…” “Yes I’m aware. I know what I’m doing. Good reminder though, thank you for telling me. Get going home. Go play with your children.” “Thank you Ma’am. I will.” A few seconds later, the channel connected, and she waited for the call to be answered. (Risa– Suraya Bay, Cabin -9D Manager Caity DuBois and DirAeroCmd Adm Dale Bracken - 1710) Sitting on the comfy sofa, fire warming her, the chime of the com chanel broke her concentration. Putting down the well worn copy of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Caity pressed to answer the call and immediately, a confused look flew onto her face. Dale smiled warmly as the channel connected and an attractive looking brunette appeared, perhaps looking slightly confused. “Good evening dear. Miss DuBois I assume? I’ve heard a lot about you, may I call you Caity?” "Well, I suppose… who are you exactly? If you're calling for Ailynn.." Dale shook her head, and her innate sense of playfulness suddenly bubbled to the surface. “I’m afraid not Caity, you see this is a bit more serious.” "Oh…" Caity responded, "What did I do… to get called by a Starfleet Admiral.." “Standard security call for any Civilian who is dating a senior Fleet Officer. I do apologise.” Dale smiled gently. Caity’s eyes grew wide, "it is? I hadn’t realised…." Not being able to keep her face straight any longer, Dale giggled. “I am so sorry, Admirals don’t have much fun. It’s Dale, Ailynn is my granddaughter. Seems that she’s told me more about you than you about me. I just wanted to put a face to the name I hear so much about.” "I swear I am going to have words with her when she gets back." Caity replied, still a little nervous. Having never met anyone’s family before, she made a mental note to choose her words carefully. Dale smiled at the younger woman's outwardly flustered appearance. No doubt Ailynn would get it in the neck later, Dale could see that underneath Caity’s exterior lay a core of steel. "Ma'am…" she began and then paused, looking at the woman on the screen, "...she's talked about me?" “She has, Dates you two have been on...things like that. Nothing that you wouldn’t want her to have shared. Forgive me my teasing, and please, it’s just Dale, too many call me Ma’am. You don’t work for me.” she winked. "Okay… Dale. I have to ask… why now? Ailynn isn't here…" “I know, its why I chose now actually. I wanted to meet the real you, and maybe ask things that I wouldn’t if you were sat next to Ailynn.” Caity’s eyes narrowed, "Like what exactly?" She could tell that the woman was protective, but so was she. “Did Ailynn tell you the dilemma she has at the moment?” "Depends. Did she tell you?" “Caity...I understand. It’s okay. I’m not asking you to break confidences, and I’d think less of you if you did. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.” "She is her own woman. If she makes the choice that takes her away from The Exeter, then that's fine." “I wasn’t always a boring Admiral sat at a desk. I was once a young and more idealistic CSO, later I worked undercover SpecOps. I just wondered your take on things, Ailynn’s decision will affect you after all.” "That's true. But we are a team. Where she goes, I go. Although, with life in the fleet as it is… if the choice were reversed, I wouldn’t expect her to stay in one place." Dale nodded, liking what she saw. “You’re being guarded, and protective. I like that. I can see why she’s fallen for you.” "She has now, has she?" Caity asked with a smile. "Feeling is mutual. She's a worry wart though.." “Ailynn is…” Dale sighed. “...well...you know her well enough by now. Just don’t let her nature drive you crazy. Bracken girls can be high maintenance.” She winked. "That's one word for it." She grinned. “Anything you want to ask me?” She ventured. "Ailynn has told me some of her past. Not all. I know things were not good for her at one point. That I can tell. I… did you look into me when you heard my name?" Caity asked, crossing her arms across her chest. Dale smiled. “I was tempted, not going to lie, there are rules in place to stop that kind of thing, but you don’t get to where I have or where Ailynn is without learning where the cracks are. However…” Dale shifted in her seat. “I love my family, and I know you and her are a serious item now. I wouldn’t and couldn’t do anything that would affect your relationship with her, or indeed any possibility of one with me. So short answer no I didn’t.” "I'll take that. I appreciate that." “You are correct. Ailynn...some people, I think...aren’t suited for certain ages. Ailynn struggled as a late teen, too old for childhood, too young for adulthood, and under that the intellect that she possesses; that must unnerve you? Certainly does me. So, she had issues. Any more is up to her. Don’t worry, I suspect she’ll open up fully now you two have complete privacy.” "Sometimes it does. But we all have our skills. Me, I read people. I have to. Comes with the job." Caity smiled softly. Dale nodded and smiled, "good skill to have." She said. "Look, I'll not take any more of your quiet time. I know how valuable it is. If there's ever anything you need, don't hesitate yeah?." "How's your pull with customs?" Caity asked laughing. "But I appreciate that. Ailynn loves you so your opinion matters to me." Dale smiled gently. "Thank you honey. I appreciate the sentiment. I'll see what I can do." She winked. "Cracks in the system remember." "Oh I know. I just hope that I help her some. She carries the weight of the world on her shoulders." "I've seen the strongest people torn apart by the stresses of the job. She's lucky to have someone like you. I expect to meet you in person in Tuscanny when your next our way yeah?" "Would you take it as an affront if I said I was a little nervous? Ailynn is one thing but I have heard Bracken women are a force to be reckoned with." "We have moments." Dale laughed. "But you're more than strong enough." "I should get going. Ailynn will want feeding when she gets back." She winked. "Take care sweetie, love to everyone." "I'll pass that on. Thankyou. She winked, "Bracken out." (Reply none) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort – ACMO – Ensign Dural Methor DrPH – 1833) Dural transported down just outside of the main walkway. He decided to wear something appropriate. After discussing with some of the others in sickbay they said what they called a Hawaiian shirt was appropriate. Given, that Risa’s climate was very much like a series of Islands in the Earth’s Western Hemisphere of the same name. Khaki shorts and leather sandals completed his outfit. It was the first time in a long time he got some shore leave. He never did beam down from the Mystique to Trill Prime in his first out of academy mission under the command of Admiral Remae. He thought it important that everyone else get some shore leave. Even his shore leave to Cardassia Prime was cut short when he got orders to join the crew of the Exeter. Others told him that he needed to take time for himself and spend some time planet side. There was a warm breeze coming over the island’s mountain to the leeward side that put a spring in the Cardassian’s step. As he walked toward the nearby structure. Many times “Welcome to Risa!” could be heard, he said “Hello,” to each and smiled pleasantly as he walked at first the wooden pier, and then the cobblestone walk way heading towards the large stone structure. He made his way now to a covered walkway leading into the building. The sun was just setting and to his right on a large square platform could be seen with a large group of people were gathered. Dural turned to someone tending a curio stand, “Excuse me, kind sir. What is that gathering?” “Welcome to Risa!” The Risan man said out of habit, “Oh, that is the collective dance event. Some of the guests call it the dance competition, though no one wins and no prizes are awarded. It happens every night. Are you interested?” Dural waived his hand, “No thank you. I’m not much of a dancer.” “Of course,” the Risan answered. “As you wish.” “What do you offer here at this establishment?” Dural asked earnestly. “Certainly!” The man said with practiced welcome, “We have a Dabo table downstairs, private rooms, the bar is upstairs we have a balcony..” “A bar? Perfect. I thank you for your time.” Dural said. “Thanks are not necessary, all are welcome here on Risa.” “For your assistance I should purchase some of your wares, I would like to buy one of these wooden curios.” Dural said picking up one of the small wooden carvings. “Certainly,” the Risan said with a smile, “Currency or credit?” “Credit, unfortunately I didn’t bring any latinum or Cardassian Lek from my previous shore leave.” Dural explained admiring the carving. “Which line of credit?” He inquired. “Starfleet, USS Exeter. Place it under Doctor Dural.” The Cardassian said. “Enjoy your stay on Risa, Doctor Dural.” The man said pleasantly. Dural made his way to the bar. (Reply none or any) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Lounge – ACMO – Ensign Dural Methor DrPH – 1842) Dural made his way up the stairs and to the bar, carrying his newly purchased statuette. It was still late in the evening and he found the bar area with only a few customers. He approached the bartender and was welcomed. “Welcome to Risa, something to drink?” the friendly woman asked. “You wouldn’t happen to have any kanar?” Dural asked hopefully. “Don’t get many of requests for it…” she started. “Ah, that’s a shame…” Dural answered. “…but I do have a small selection in the back.” She responded with a grin. “Excellent. I’ll take a bottle.” Dural said. The woman smiled and nodded and headed to a door behind the bar. She returned shortly with a tall fluted conical brown bottle. “It’s a twenty-two,” she announced. “We also don’t get many Cardassians here. I suspect that number will change now that they are officially part of the Federation.” “No doubt you are correct young Miss.” Dural agreed with her. “I am after all the first to graduate from Starfleet Academy and also the first to graduate from Starfleet Medical.” “Well, congratulations!” she said happily. “Thumb print here, for the bottle, Doctor.” The Cardassian obliged and pressed his thumb to the device. “Is there anything else I can get you?” She asked. Handing him a tumbler to go with his Cardassian liquor. “No, that will do. Thank you!” He said grabbing the bottle and glass and and walked toward the balcony. He quickly found himself a seat near the edge, overlooking the ocean and sat down. He placed his statuette on the table and then he peeled the foil seal and carefully pulled on the stopper until the surface tension gave way with a hollow pop. He poured himself two fingers worth of the syrupy liquid and took a sip. ~Excellent vintage. That bartender knows her stuff.~ He spent some time alone gazing out at the ocean lapping at the beach. The regularly irregular rhythm was soothing in its own unique way. Entranced by it he had lost track of time and had at some point finished his glass and poured another. Before long he was interrupted. “Excuse me, you seek jamaharon?” The soft voice broke the hypnosis of the water. He turned to see a Risan woman with soft features, a pleasant smile and piercing green eyes that seemed to look into Dural’s soul. “What now?” Dural asked. “You display the Horga’hn. It signals those wishing jamaharon.” She explained simply. “This curio? Has cultural significance?” Dural asked. “Yes.” She said with a giggle. “I’m not to familiar with Risan customs. Would you like to elaborate?” Dural asked. He was eager to learn their customs. “Jamaharon is better shown than discussed.” She answered, “I have a private room if you’d like to know more.” “I’m always eager to learn about other’s customs. Lead the way.” Dural said. “What’s your name?” “My name is Jemma.” She said and picked up the bottle of Kanar, she took a draw straight from the bottle, and handed it back to him. He took the bottle, and the statue, downed the glass and left it. Jemma took him by the hand leading him to a private room. We're not being written by anyone. So stop dilly dallying and tell Caity or I'll introduce Caity to your mom. Lord knows aimee will spill the beans in 30 minutes." "I'm keeping Caity away from the Bracken coven for as long as possible. I'm not worried about them liking her, quite the opposite,.I actually think they'd prefer her." She giggled. "I doubt that. My guess is your mom will tell you about some doctor she knows that'd be a better fit." Trip laughed. "But maybe she'll surprise me. Rumor has it she's a lot more mellow since she…." Trip then winked at Ailynn. "I beg you don't finish that sentence. My near 60 year old mother should not be ge…" she stopped. "Im not saying another word." "So. Same topic kind of, different subjects. How do I tell Ash the employee she's mentoring, who has come over to eat with us two or three times, may or may not be wanting a piece of me. I felt the emotions related to lust. But frankly I've been feeling that everywhere I go on this planet." Ailynn smiled, keeping her thoughts in check this time."Yeah...I can kind of see why. As to your problem...Ash knows, loves and trusts you. Just tell her. She's no empath but she may as well be where you're concerned, she'll smell the unease on you anyway." Trip sniffed his armpits. "I don't smell that bad." "You're an oaf. You know what I mean. Who was it? Where they drunk?" "Addison. Yes but.. " "But?" "I've been picking up vibes for a week now" "Addison Queen? Possibly not very drunk, she has a liver function mutation, produces an extra protein." "I dunno. Its all...I mean….is it wrong that I was tempted. For a nano second of course. But i was tempted." "Of course it's normal. I've seen a few girls, received a few glances, and yeah, the atmosphere is oppressively romantic. You didn't act on it. Just speak to Ash, you've known her long enough." "Would you say then I should rip the bandaid. Honesty is the best policy. Dont drag it out?" "Men! You're overthinking. Just tell her what happened. If Addison tells her first then it's worse even if untrue." "I see…" he paused. "Then you better make sure you take your own advice and don't chicken out." "You arse." She said smiling gently. "I might have set you up for that." "Fair point though; and you're right. Tonight after dinner." "You better." "I have a table at the cappacio at 8. I'll let you know what the food is like." "I on the other hand am not sure how tonight will go. But thats part of life right?" "Hey...me either, but yes, yes it is." Trip then turned to the fourth wall and winked. Ailynn shuddered. "That being the case my writer seriously needs their head examined." "Fortunately for us. Or unfortunately. But thats part of life right?" "Hey...me either, but yes, yes it is." She smiled half-heartedly, then turned away and left the conference centre, her stride easy, but purposeful. (Reply none) (Risa– Suraya Bay Resort, Tropical Sunset Cafe - ACTEO, Lt. Cade Blackwell and ACSO Ensign Senior Grade Adala Michaels - 19:00) [Adalas room, Suraya Bay Resort] Adala, now dressed in a pale green sundress and sandals, gave herself a once over in the mirror. Her hair pulled back in a ponytail, held back with a cloth tie, which matched her dress. They'd agreed to meet at the cafe. She was nervous. ~Adala get over it~ she chided herself as she let out a sigh and left her room. It didn't take her long to get to the cafe and she smiled as she stood near the door. The cafe Cade had chosen was beautiful in it's simplicity. The light from the torches which were tucked into the walls, and along the outdoor deck sending a low glow and giving a romantic feel. Each table held a vase with flowers and a candle centerpiece. The breeze from the bay below caused the flames to flicker slightly. The horizons glowed slightly with the setting of the suns and the rising of the moons. Cade waved at her from their table. He was wearing boat shoes, khaki shorts and a white linen button down. His vibe said I'm casual but I can also be fancy. "Addie over here," he waved. Adala smiled hearing him and walked over to the table where he sat, a table on the deck. She was glad he had chosen a table outside rather than inside the small cafe. “Nice” she said as she gave him a once over as well as their table. "So. I hope you don't mind if we do something grounded and not like tame tigers or something." Adala sat down across from Cade and shrugged. “I don’t mind at all.” her eyes roaming from him to their surroundings. “What’s on the menu?” "I hear the seafood is really good. Risan sea bass with lemon and ginger. With steamed veggies on the side " Adala nodded. “That sounds delicious.” "But the chicken salad is also good so they say." “So many choices.” "What are you in the mood for?" “What are you going to order?” “Me, I dunno. I think the shrimp pasta sounds delectable. It’s Risian shrimp, similar in taste to earth shrimp, but smells like honey. Or so the waiter said. Supposedly they also use special seasoning to give it a spicy kick.” Adala thought for a moment. “I think I want something with a little kick. I’ll have the shrimp pasta.” “Unless, you would prefer I eat something that won’t give me a stinky breath.” “Be daring Cade. You only live once.” She laughed lightly as she spoke. "Well isn't that the paradox?" He said with a smile. Adala laughed and shook her head. “I suppose it is.” "You only live once. Do you risk it being short but full of adventure. Or do you try and make it long but with no risk. Which one is a life truly lived." “I live for the thrill Cade. But I also am careful with what I do. Yes I push the envelope. But ….” she let voice trail off to silence as she watched him, a slight glint in her eye. "Both have merit. I prefer the middle way. Grounded life with calculated risks." “Grounded works as long as you are the one keeping me there.” She said with a slight smile. "Stinky breath but delicious food or kissing you but bland food. That's my calculated risk." Adala reached across the table and touched his cheek lightly. “I’d kiss you regardless of your breath Cade.” her eyes meeting his. "In that case." Cade called the waiter over. "I'll have the spicy Risan shrimp, over fettuccine, with a garlic and jalapeño Alfredo sauce." "And for the lady." The waiter asked. Katie turned to the waiter. “I’ll have the same. Thank you.” "And to drink?" "A bottle of the house white." Cade replied. "Of course, right away." As the waiter left he turned to Adala. "You're going to regret letting me eat that pasta." “I won’t regret it anymore than you will Cade.” It felt good to be here with him. He gave her the balance she needed. "So tell me Addie, I feel I know the daredevil you, and the you that was afraid to leave the lab. But what about the you that dreams. What's your greatest goal or dream?" Adala settled back in her chair and gazed across the table at him as she pondered his question. "That's a good question Cade." She bit her lip while she thought of her answer. "What's my greatest goal or dream?" she grew silent for a moment. "I really don't know. I suppose I have been too busy living for each moment, for the next thrill." "Surely there is something." Adala reached across the table to take his hand. "If I have to be honest, especially with myself. I guess you are my answer to my dreams. You've given me something I haven't been able to find, something I have needed." she smiled slightly. Cade was taken a back. "Me? How, why? What do you mean?" She squeezed his hand. “You’ve given me a reason to not be as reckless and daring as I have in the past. Yes I enjoy the thrill, but you’ve given me something I haven’t had in my life, not for a long time.” She knew she was probably talking in circles but didn’t really know how to explain how he made her feel, or what he gave her, by his presence in her life. Her past had been surrounded by rocks, a lonely, secluded life and he had brought laughter, a brightness into her dark, lonely life. "So are you saying I'm boring, is that it?" He said with a mischievous smile. “I didn’t say that Cade.” She watched him puzzled as he turned to the waiter. Cade turned and got the attention of the waiter. "We're going to need our order to go." The waiter nodded and informed the kitchen. Cade then stood up and picked Adala up into his arms. "I'll show you less thrills." He said laughing as he carried her over to the pool. Adala laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck knowing what he was planning. Then almost on instinct he jumped into the deep end with her, both fully clothed. “Smart move.” she stuttered as she bobbed on the surface. She splashed him and laughed harder. "We should probably go before we get kicked out" He said. She glanced around the pool and shook her head. “Hell we’re the entertainment.” She splashed him once more and headed for the side of the pool. "How far is your hotel from here?" “Not far.” she bit her lip as she pulled herself out of the pool. She turned to watch him from where she sat on the edge. Pulling himself out Cade laughed. "We uh need to head out quick before we get a cold in paradise. Dripping everywhere and what not. Didn't know I needed to bring a towel" he said as the waiter brought them their food and wine in a basket to go. Cade signed for it, smiled, then sneezed. "Sorry." Adala laughed as she stood and rang out her hair. “Come on before you catch a cold.” She said as she took his hand and led him from the cafe. "I hope you don't think I ruined the date?" Adala laughed. “Of course not, you just made it more interesting.” "Continue it at your place?" “Of course.” she said as she led him out of the cafe and towards her lodging. (Reply None) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Conference Center-Lexington CO, Captain Jimmy Hart & Exeter CTO/3O Lieutenant commander Ravok- 1905) Ravok arrived at the conference center at the request of Trip. He walked in, looking around he saw a lot of commanding officers walking surrounded by various members of their crews. ~ Can't say I envy them~ “Commander Ravok, over here.” Jimmy said as he waved over the Exeter's chief tactical officer to his table at the bar. “Can I get you something to drink?” " I'm still on duty at the moment so I'll have an apple juice Sir." It was his favorite non alcoholic beverage. “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I’ve cleared this conversation with Trip.” Ravok sat down and looked at him with curiosity in his eyes. " You have my attention Sir." “You know I was disappointed when you took the position of OPS chief on the Exeter. I was hoping you would have stayed with the fighter wing. You were a great FSXO and I was jealous that you left for a lesser position. Honestly, had you stayed you might be the FSCO instead of my cousin.” Ravok looked at his drink. " Well to be honest I wanted to get off mars. I'm not too fond of being on a rock hurtling through space. The fighter wing meant alot to me. I experienced a lot of first. I'm sorry Sir, what is all of this about?" Ravok asked trying not to stray off topic. “I’ll be blunt. I need a First Officer. I asked Trip, he said ‘you sure as hell aint taking my chief engineer’ but you can talk to Ravok. Of course he informed me you were involved with the chief engineer. I think he’s trying to give me a qualified FO candidate, but one who will definitely say no.” Ravok took a swift drink of his apple juice. " I certainly wasn't expecting this. Oh man." He was knocked off his feet by the thought of being a first officer. “So, Lt. Commander Ravok Shara, I’m offering you the position of First Officer of the Lexington. No promotion, not yet. But you would be first officer.” " Sir, I have a lot on the Exeter. " Ravok said. “I know. But I had to ask. You really are one of the best candidates. I mean the Hood FO, my brother, he was FO on a small science vessel before getting the Hood. He was qualified. But so are you. XO of the fighter wing. Familiarity with the Exeter as both Chief Operations officer and chief tactical officer. And Trip trusts you like family. Figured I’d ask you first, before you say no.” " You didn't need a chief Engineer did you? " Ravok asked , laughing nervously. “I did, but Trip was adamant, he can’t part with Commander Merek. He could part with you.” Jimmy paused “Not in a bad way. He thinks you are a big fish in a small pond. He thinks you deserve the chance.” " I need some time to think this over if that's ok with you Sir?" “You have 48 hours. Gives me time to get a second choice before leaving, gives Trip time to get a new CTO if you accept.” Ravok tapped his foot almost out of his boot. " Ok I understand. If I say yes I would like to meet Trips new chief of Tactical, if time permits. I would hate to leave without making sure the Exeter is in good hands. Every ship has it's own soul." “If we have time. But the first person you should talk to is your wife.” " We are not married Sir." Ravok corrected him, hoping not to offend. “Sorry, most of have misunderstood Trip. Still you’ll be apart for some time. It would be imprudent to say yes without consulting her.” " I will have a talk with her Immediately. You understand that if I accept I am bringing my daughter?" "And I'm bringing my son." Ravok laughed " That's good. I will be in touch Sir. I promise not to keep you waiting too long. " Ravok said as he stood up and reached his hand out to shake Jimmy's. "I look forward to hearing from you." " You will Sir, you will." Ravok said as he walked away and outside of the conference center. He stopped and looked back. Every part of him wanted to run back in there and tell Jimmy yes, but he wasn't thinking about the big picture, yet for the first time since the academy he would possibly make a decision to benefit himself. ( reply None) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Private Room 6 – ACMO – Ensign Dural Methor DrPH & Risan Hostess – Jemma – 1913) They had been discussing culture for quite some time. The similarities and the differences between Risan and Cardassian culture. What Dural had experienced growing up as an orphan on Cardassia Prime, and what Jemma had experienced living a life of making luxury for others. From what Jemma could tell he seemed to be beating around the bush. He kept asking questions and seemed to be having a good time, usually everyone was done with her by this point. ~Was he nervous about it?~ She thought to herself. “Do you want to learn about jamaharon?” Jemma asked. “Yes, please show me.” He said. “Very well,” She said. ~It usually isn’t this awkward.~ She leaned in and gave him a sensual kiss. Dural’s eyes opened wide in surprise. He placed his hands on her hips and pushed her away gently until their contact broke. “What’s wrong?” Jemma asked, clearly startled by the unforeseen turn of events. ~This has never happened.~ “This is what Jamaharon is? It’s a mating custom?” Dural asked. “Yes. I thought that was clear, I’m terribly sorry. Am I not pleasing?” She asked. “I’m sure you are, just not to me.” He answered. “Should I fetch a host, would that please you?” She asked, a little bewildered, as this was the first time it has happened. “That would not, no as I’m not attracted to anyone sexually.” Dural answered evenly. “How…?” She asked. “Just never have been. I have friends, and I can enjoy their company, I’m just not attracted to anyone in that way, but I have quite enjoyed our conversation on culture.” He held up the Kanar bottle. “We still have one quarter of this left. I would like to talk some more, if you aren’t busy.” “I would like that. It seems most people only come here for Jamaharon.” Jemma admitted. Dural took a drink from the bottle, and passed it to Jemma who did so as well. “Excellent, now where were we?” Dural asked. “You can tell me of Cardassian courtship, you know of it?” Jemma asked. “I’ve seen people do so. I’ve found that when Cardassians court one usually starts bickering and arguing with one another, to show their interests.” Dural explained. “Fascinating.” She said. (Reply none) (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, Waterside Bungalow- CO, Captain Trip Williams and Dir. R&SE Ash Williams- 19:30) “Honey I’m home.” Trip said as he entered the bungalow that he had booked for Ash and him to relax. Ashlyn smiled as she heard her husbands voice from the door, and walked through into the spacious lounge area. She reached him, and slipped her arms around his waist, and kissed him, “Hey babe.” she said as he moved to the couch. She moved toward the fridge and got them each a drink, passing him his favourite beer. As he plopped down on the couch, mind tired, he sighed. “Ash, are we old. Did we throw away our youth?” “Okaaay?” Ashlyn said, sitting in the corner of the large, luxuriant couch. “Where did this come from?” "Confession time." “You’re wearing my pants?” she’d been napping, and was suddenly awake and in a silly mood. Trip laughed. "I think Addison is into me and I may have accidentally flirted with her." “Addison? Addison Addison?” she looked puzzled. “Where?” "Yes, You're Little protege. Umm anytime I run into her when you're not there. It's my fault. I've been super open in confiding with her. And about my fears about growing old too fast and I may have given her the wrong impression. I'm to blame, I think, and I'm sorry." “Okay, Trip, you’re giving me an awful lot all in one sentence. Why don’t we start at the beginning.” "I set boundaries and she knows how much I love you." She gave him a gentle look, and lifted his feet onto her lap, rubbing the balls of one foot, then the other. “I know you do, and I also know that you wouldn’t do anything to hurt or upset me, us. So talk to me. You mentioned being old?” "I guess, I imagined this age being a young Ensign, able to make mistakes. Go to Risa and take a stranger home." Ashlyn smiled, and nodded. She new Trip well enough to let him finish offloading the things on his chest. "Instead I'm married to a wonderful woman who is beautiful and smart. Kid due in like four months and I'm a captain. Its just that ever nagging thought. Did I grow up too fast" “Your empathic abilities are only just at normal, but now you are surrounded by a hedonistic paradise. I get that. I really do, and you see the trade off that you had to make?” "Its..just…" “I know, I’m not suggesting you have regrets.” she smiled. "I don't. Only when have naked women hit on me." He winked. “Wait; Addison was naked? Where were you?” "No. A very revealing dress. But this is Risa, everyone is in bikinis and she's not the only one to hit on me. Just the only one who made me...unsure of what was going on. Everyone else is easier to ignore." “I get that. Humans, Bajorans, Betazoid, are all highly charged, highly emotional beings.” "Addison whispered into my ear don't let it go stale. I wasn’t sure if she meant my relationship with you or my umm sex drive" Nodding, Ashlyn smiled. “Does it matter? What do you feel? Do you feel stale? Do I?” "I don't feel stale around you. Even with you five months pregnant we still have a good sex life." “But…” she squeezed his toes. “You can say it, how long have we known each other.” sme smiled gently "But….I just… dunno. Maybe we could spice things up." “Well I’m not quite as bendy as I was.” she winked. "Addison had an idea." She turned her head slightly, “where’s this going?” "Not a three way." Trip laughed. “Right answer.” she chuckled. “So?” "We get fancy. Create aliases. Go to a bar separately and I try to bring whoever you're pretending to be home and into bed." “The thrill of the chase?” "Yup. And you get to make me look foolish if you want." “And I get to pretend to be a cheap bar girl like you and Ailynn chatted up on your stag do? Don’t think I don’t know about that.” She winked. "I didn't though." He confessed. She laughed. “I’m teasing. Relax.” she smiled. “I like it.” she held his hand. “Trip. digressing slightly, This is about more than just picking up girls in bars isn’t it.” "What do you mean?" “You’re twenty-three. The youngest Captain since whenever. You not only outrank your peers, you transcend them. Ailynn too. Your meteoric rise through the fleet is bound to set your balance off. Do you regret it?” "No. But its hard. I can't have friends the way everyone else does. Not the way Ire and Ravok are bestie. Even with Ailynn, its different. She has Ronnie now. And there are things I can't tell her or anyone because they'd lose confidence in me. The only person I can let my hair down with on the Exeter and really be myself, is you. Even with the other civilians I'm still captain Williams. Hell even calling my sister is hard because of how far apart we are" Once again, Ashlyn let Trip talk his frustrations out, she watched him gently, with a quiet, loving, understanding eye, a gentle look of concern on her face. "With Addison, I opened up because I wanted a friend. But I guess even then...Im … maybe I'm jealous. Jealous of everyone being able to make friends and mistakes that won't kill 500 people." “And that is where she may have thought you were into her, some people, and I’m not saying that she’s one of them, some girls, like those with power, they’re attracted to the influence and status that that kind of relationship is perceived to have, and actually don’t see the strain, the stress that I see you bear each and every day. They don’t see the trauma that you have to burden for those 500 souls.” Trip just nodded and listened. “I get you and Ailynn aren’t how you were, but I see you together, she trusts you like I’ve never seen her trust anyone, and you her. I see the times that you’re working, and you have entire conversations with each other in a single bloody glance. So yeah, she isn’t the friend you want.” Ashlyn smiled, “She’s the friend you need, and the one that you need to offload too more. She’s stronger than you let yourself think.” "She's also the friend under an ethical and moral duty to relieve me from my post if she thinks I can't handle it." “And would you trust anyone else with that burden?” "Just you, her, and Sy. But obviously I couldn't have my sister as FO." Ashlyn nodded, and smiled, stroking the back of his hand with her fingertips. "I told Ailynn I don't want her to go to the Hood." She nodded. “She isn’t going to go.” "How do you know?" Ash shrugged. “Ailynn is a lot of things, indecisive is not one of them. Everything that she does she is absolutely certain about. She has an almost supernatural belief in her own success and ability. However, if she’s taken this long and hasn’t told you she’ll do it, then she’ll turn it down because she had to go away and think about it.” she paused. “Does that make sense?” "Maybe." “Any better?” "Yeah. Im going go change then head out. But I won't see you until the morning." He winked. "If you still want to play." Ashlyn’s eyes twinkled. “I might head out myself. See if there’s any greasy fighter Jocks around.” she giggled “I’ll see you tomorrow dear.” she leant forward and pecked his cheek. “I love you.” "I love you too." (Risa–Suraya Bay Resort, The Sunset Club- CO, Captain Trip Williams and Dir. R&SE Ash Williams- 20:30) Trip walked through the outdoor club looking for the bar, he wanted a drink, something sweet, but he’d settle for the love of a good woman. He was wearing the same clothes he had to the conference, but his shirt was unbuttoned showing off his abs and pecs. He was a lion on the prowl and then he saw her, sitting at the bar, with a special glow. “Hey there beautiful. Name is Tristan Steele, and you are?” Ashlyn had spent a while getting ready, and strode into the sunset club. She ignored the line of people waiting to get in, and slinked straight to the doorman, who lifted the rope and gestured her through. “Pleasant evening ma’am” The thronging bodies were an assault on her senses, the music wasn’t loud, but the sexual tension in the air was treacle thick. She managed to reach the bar and motioned to a bartender to fix her a cocktail, alcohol free. “Isolde Lexington. So...you’re about to tell me I’ve lost that lovin’ feeling?” "You think I'm a pilot, what gave me away?" He said with a laugh. “Isn’t that what all the boys dream of?” "Mind if I sit down?" She motioned to the seat to indicate it was empty. “So a pilot huh? Shuttles?” "Nah. Valkyries. Fighter pilot. Combat. Where the real men play." “I always liked those, used to live near the end of the launch strip at Mars.” "So Isolda huh. That'd make us Tristan and Isolda. Fancy that." “Fancy.” She replied, actually impressed, and smiled. "So...Tristan. How long are you in dock? Girl in every town?” "I've been around, but never met anyone as charming as you. Plus tonight, we have a chance to change history." “Well, I’ve never heard it called that before.” Her eyes widened, a smile erupted on her face. “How so? Dare I ask or am I to much a fair maiden not used to such matters?” she couldn’t help herself giggle. "How familiar are you with prose and legend from 12th century Earth. Particularly Britain?" “It’s been a while, and my ancestry isn’t solely Terran, but I dabble in literature?” "The legend of Tristan and Isolde. Tristan was a valiant knight, nephew of the king of Cornwall who had raised him like a son. Tristan was tasked to go to Ireland to bring back the fair Isolde, an Irish princess, back to Cornwall to marry his uncle. Yet on the way the two accidentally ingested a love potion and fell madly for each other. Yet Tristan was honor bound to respect the man he loved as a father. So he brought Isolde to his uncle and she soon became the bride of the king of Cornwall." “These legends and the love potions. I doubt there were ever two people who ever just loved each other like that without a potion.” She smiled "Yet the potion stirred the two to be together. And in secret they shared their love until the king found out and sentenced Tristan and Isolde to death. Tristan escapes in daring fashion, swooping in to save his love but they are pursued." “And then?” She knew the story, but was impressed at ‘Tristan’s’ retelling of it. "Eventually the king finds them and they reach a truce. Tristan is banished and Isolde is then forced to remain with her husband the king of Cornwall. Yet by doing so they both keep their lives." “How sad. Poor Isolde "How bout tonight we change their story and give them a happy ending?" “Mr Steele, you are assuming an awful lot. A few lines of poetry doth not a notch on your bedpost make.” she smiled, drinking from her glass. "It was worth a shot. But you strike me as one less interested in muscles and stories of daring and more interested in someone's soul." “I like stories. Facts become legend becomes myth becomes stories.” she sipped her drink once more. What are stories? Perhaps an assortment of words that has never before existed? Or perhaps a pathway through someones train of thought, taking you on a journey of their design.” "That is true." “However, yes, I adore people. Maybe, people are their own stories? Their own narrators?” "Then I have a story for you. If I haven't bored you yet." “pray...continue.” "There was a young pilot named Tristan who walked into a bar and gazed on the Visage of aphrodite herself. Confused and befuddled he made his way over. Not a care in the world." “Aphrodite?” she smiled. “Good start.” "The young pilot was confused, he was normally confident, headstrong, and rash. Yet upon seeing her, he felt as cowardly as a little child." “And how did he confront his fears?” "Well he could not woo her with his abs. Nor his knowledge of tales. So he took a gamble a shot in the dark. And took one last chance at impressing the goddess." “And how did he do that? He couldn’t have known that the goddess really fancied a dance.” she motioned to the patio, where a slower tempo of music was playing. Ash slid off the barstool, a flash of stocking top as she straightened her dress. Catching his eye she said nothing, but her eyes twinkled and her eyebrow raised an eighth of an inch. "Well then my goddess I shall play your game, but save my final gambit in case I fail." He took her hand and led her to the dance floor. Feeling his hand wrap around hers, her heart leapt as the cooler night air hit her. She then felt his arms start to lead her in a dance. "Ash?" Trip asked. “Trip?” "That pilot already gave the goddess his heart. I don't need to pretend. I'm just happy you accepted my heart when I gave it to you." She blushed, and smiled. “And me likewise. You made this chick from the wrong side of 5th and main a happy girl. I love you.” "I love you too." “I have a question…” "Yes my dear." “Do I count as a notch in your bedpost...or do you count as one in mine?” her eyes twinkled naughtily once more. "Both/and baby, both/and" she pulled him into a deep kiss, it was just the two of them, alone in the universe. (Reply none) (USS Exeter- deck 3- Merek/Shara shared quarters- CTO/3O Lieutenant Sg. How very….Romulan.~ “It was deck seven’s turn on the rotational maintenance, so I spent most of it on deck seven. Truth be told, if Trip hadn’t insisted on an overhaul of the hologrid we probably still be ironing out the kinks in that now, but instead it’s back to routine maintenance. Typical day. I’m guessing you don’t want to talk about maintenance.” Keira said. He grabbed his chair and slid it over to her and sat down. " I just got back from the surface a little while ago. Her joking smile dropped, “What about you?” " He offered me the chance to serve as his first officer. I have 48 hours to deliver him a decision." Ravok said, looking her in the eyes. She could tell he was nervous about what she would say how she would react. “Well, what did you say? What are you leaning towards? Does he also have a spot for a Chief Engineer? I don’t want to leave the Exeter, but for you I would certainly consider it.” She said. She was speaking at a faster pace, like she usually did just before an emotional outburst. He had replicated some dry clothing and had hung up his wet clothes to dry. He still felt really cold and was wondering if jumping in the pool was a mistake. Adala stood in the doorway of her sleeping chamber and watched Cade, before tossing him a blanket off her bed. “Wrap up in this, you’re not allowed to catch a cold while on vacation.” "You're not mad about the pool thing are you?" “Not mad at all. The pool did look inviting.” She pulled another blanket out of the closet and wrapped it around herself. “Let’s eat.” she said as she motioned to the balcony. “Stay away from the railing. I don’t want you to get any ideas of tossing us in the pool again.” "Im done being adventurous for the day." He said as he took his dinner and took a bite. "This has good heat " She sat down across from him and took a bite of her own dinner. “It will help warm us up.” "How'd you become a daredevil anyways?" “Growing up onboard ships I had to find ways to keep myself occupied. Plus the search and rescue work I did, the places I have had to get people out of.” She paused and took a bite before continuing. “I guess it just adds that spark to life and the adrenaline rush.” "I guess. Might be why I went into tactical. Dad was a marine. Grew up around it. I wanted to be a soldier. But I also wanted to explore. So here I am on a Starship rather than on a planet in barracks somewhere." Adala took a sip of the wine before responding. “So you do have a little of that ‘adventure bug’ don’t you?” her eyes twinkled slightly "So, any evil exes I should be aware of?" She shook her head. “Nobody has wanted to take on this daredevil.” "I find that hard to believe. " Adala laughed. "Actually I take that back. My guess is no one knew where to find you because you kept yourself locked away." “Nobody knew what to make of me, I kept to myself out of fear I suppose. It was easier to talk to the rocks than to people.” She let out a sigh and grew silent. "Everything ok? I hope I didn't touch a nerve, or hit a vein?" He said making a a geology joke. Adala leaned over the table and kissed him. “You didn’t.” she smiled slightly as she pulled away. "Something feels wrong. Why are you pulling away? Should I go?" Adala stood up and moved to his side of the table to look down into his eyes. “I don’t want you going anywhere. You have made my life complete.” "Well then. I guess I rescued the princess from the tower she was locked in." “I think you have.” she said as she sat down again. "So. (Reply none) (Risa– Suraya Bay Resort, beach - CSO Lt Erin Cortez & Lexington CO, Captain Jimmy Hart - 2014) Walking along the beach, Erin kicked the sand gently as she walked. Having spent the day exploring Risa, she had earmarked a couple of places that she wanted to visit. Sunset on Risa was an event all of its own. Stepping off the sand, she stood watching the people walking by, heading out for the evening or heading back to their accommodation. Smiling to herself, Erin pulled a shawl around her shoulders and sighed. After a few minutes of crowd watching and walking through the crowds, Erin began walking back along the sand towards the small condo that she had rented just off the beach front. The night air was full of the aromas of the cafes and bars along the beachfront plying their wares and the sounds of the crew and the others mixing with the Risan natives made for a happy and content soundtrack as she walked. After a few moments of walking, she stopped and gazed out at the ocean. Thinking back to where she had come from, the academy and now the Exeter, she thought to herself, ~funny how life can turn out. I would never have.thought that I would be doing a job that I love with a crew I admire, and seeing the universe in the way I am. But, for all the hardship and the bad that we have gone through, he crew is stronger together now.~ Erin smiled as she watched the sunset. No longer afraid of allowing people in and being by herself, she.looked around fir a moment and took off her shoes. Walking down to the water's edge, she dipped a toe in the oceans walk waters. Closing her eyes, she smiled widely as she walked a step into the water and felt it lap around her ankles. Feeing at peace, she took a deep breath in and opened her eyes looking at the stars. "Wonder which one is home?" A quote popped into her head and she chuckled a little. Her father's voice, in her mind, ~second star to the right and keep going until morning. You will always find home.~ “You wouldn’t be able to see it from here. Too far away.” Jimmy said with a smile. Turning, she smiled. "You surprised me." “Sorry couldn’t sleep, so I decided to take a walk.” "I understand. When I can’t sleep I tend to read. Helps me to calm the mind so to speak." “Reading makes my mind too active. My imagination goes bonkers. Walking, movement, thats what does it for me.” "It is beautiful here. Have you ever been to Risa before?" She asked, gazing back at the fading sunset. “Once. A long time ago.” Jimmy paused. “It’s kind of where Tommy came from.” "Oh… " Erin replied, "How is the little guy? Missing his dad I bet." “Depends on the day, and depends on the answer to the question, can I have a cookie?” Erin smiled, "Sounds like a character. So is he excited for his daddy being a Captain? Big starship and all that." “It will be nice. His mom is taking a position as a civilian consultant on the ship. Which means he gets to come with.” "Great adventure. Kids are an adventure so my mom tells me." “He is my greatest adventure.” "I sometimes feel that I've yet to find my adventure. Although the Exeter doesn't disappoint." Jimmy just nodded. "You know, standing here, looking at this view, makes me feel small." “Everyone’s adventure is different. But I think, I think, for me, it needs to be more personal, more introspective. Yes going through the stars is a great adventure. But the greatest adventure is smaller.” She looked at him and nodded. ~he's right. I suppose I am on my greadventure when you put it like that~ “Family, Erin, family is the greatest adventure.” "I'd love to have a family. One day. Right now, I'm content to work on myself. And no hokey remedies this time. Just me. Making myself better." Jimmy nodded. “I haven’t been fair to you.” "In what way?" “You’re young, free, got a whole lot of life to explore. Me, I’m focused on family, my kid. Then I ask you to give up that up. The youth, your journey.” "Hey,..." She began, taking his hand gently, "What you asked was a surprise. I won't lie." “Not fair of me, and I’m sorry. I have a family. You’re not ready for one. But my kid is a packaged deal. Not fair of me to force that on you.” "How can you know that? When we started this, I knew what I was getting into. That you and he are a package deal. I accepted that. I wouldn’t have been stood here if I didn't. I'm not some fly by night kid who just wants to have fun and move on. What I want…" “You literally just said, and I quote. I’d love to have a family. One day. Right now you want to work on yourself. But being with me, its more of an instant family.” "I forget that you have a good memory." Jimmy just nodded. "You really want to know what I want?" “Sure.” "Yes, I want to work on myself. Don't we all? I am trying to be better, not stronger but to let people in. Maybe that's you… I'd like to think that…" Erin paused and sighed, "...But i also want family. People are always a work in progress. They grow and change every day. I don't have an idealistic image of family. What I want is a true partnership. Someone that can support me and someone that I can support back. So, if that person has family already. That's fine by me. Family is what you make it. It's not perfect, it's what you make it. If that means building it from the ground up, great. If that means building on already existing foundations and making them something different, something that will grow then that's great too." Realising she had been rambling, Erin stopped and looked out at the ocean. “That’s not what I meant and you know it,” He said. Looking at him, she took a breath, "then what did you mean?" “Its not the blended family, its if your ready for it. Im not gonna be your weird Romulan mind game, or what have you. Thats not fair to me, to Tommy to you. What I asked you, to leave your journey of discovery, for me. Yeah, i cant force that on you.” Taken aback, Erin took a step back. Taking a moment, she turned away from him and took a breath. ~and there it is. That is never going to be forgotten. Damn it. That Erin is going to follow me. ~ Turning back to him, she took a deep breath, "Okay, firstly, you didn't force anything me. I walked into this with my eyes open. If I didn't think I was ready then this, whatever this is or is going to be, would have been over by now. But, the fact I am still here, still wanting to do this, that I still want to be with you… " she paused for a moment, ".. that…. That person who did that Romulan thing… that's not who I am now. But, I understand that you have to protect your son. What I want? I want someone to see me for who I am… not who I was. If that's you then fantastic, excellent. If you are that person willing to give me a chance, then I'm here. " “Erin….we both are and are not the choices we’ve made. We are not who they are, we change, we grow, we adapt. But we are. We live with them, they define us good or bad, and they stick with us. You will always be and will not be that person. But the more you say you’re not….you have to own your mistakes, not just say I’m done being that person. That’s how we grow. The quote-unquote old you also said many times they weren’t said person. Own it. Own you are that person. Don’t say you aren't that person, be that person, but better.” She nodded. Not knowing quite how to respond. “Look, I’m tired. I love you, but I’m tired. We can talk in the morning. I want you there, I want you on the Lexington with me. But I don’t want to rob you of your growth, of learning who you are, of your youth. That’s my fear.” "i understand. " “Look, tomorrow. We’ll talk tomorrow.” "Go get some sleep. I'll find you tomorrow." Jimmy smiled, gave her a hug and left. Ewan had enjoyed his first day on Risa and it had been nice to get away from work and responsibilities for a short while at least. He spotted the beginning of a fire on the beach between him and the resort. It was far enough away not to disturb the people at the resort but close enough for people to see it if they wanted to go over. As he got closer, he saw the barmaid that he had spoken earlier, and she was with a small group of people. He began to walk further up the beach so that he would not disturb them, but she called out to him as he passed. “Hay Trumpet man we are about to have a play come and join us.” He paused for a moment with indecision but turned and headed towards them. As he got closer, she introduced the other members of the group. Her name was Jiasre and her friends were Lanhi, Deraan and Unaad. “He maybe a brass player but don’t hold that against him.” He grinned back. “Thank you very much.” He looked at the burning bonfire and the sunset. “This is nice.” She smiled at him. “Yes, we do this often. It’s a nice way to relax after a long day. You ready.” She pulled out a what looked like a violin from a bag she had by her feet and sat down on the sand near the fire. The other three pulled at a mixture of string instruments and sat down beside her. Ewan smiled and sat down as well. He opened his case and pulled out his pocket trumpet which was a compact version of a proper sized trumpet which made it easier for traveling. He blow down the trumpet and pressed the valves a couple of times to make sure that they were not sticking or blocking it. “Okay?” He nodded. “Okay so we will do an easy one for Ewan to get settled okay….good. Let’s play .” She looked over at him a smiled. “It’s a Risan classic from my part of the world. It’s a folk song, so we won’t be going to fast and its lots of verses, so listen to and then join in when you are happy.” Ewan nodded. He watched her nod to a Unaad with a guitar. “Okay. When you are ready.” Unaad strummed his guitar and began as the others joined. Ewan sat there for a moment listening to the music with the soft braking of the waves. With the setting sun and the crackle of the fire. ~Nice~ There was a soft nudge and he looked back at Jiasre who was playing. She grinned at his and indicated his trumpet. He nodded brough the trumpet to his lips and began to play quietly with the others. He saw movement out the corner of his eye as he saw people begin to move towards them across the beach. She knew that there was something about him that drew her in and some that annoyed her but it was the later that was occupying her thoughts. ~What he said, he brought up that part of my past that i regret. Yes, i chose to go a route to try and deal with what i was going through that was not the correct way. But surely, we all make mistakes? I mean, i know that he was right in the same vein. When i said that that part of me was not who i was now, he was right to say that it was. It always will be. Am i bothered about that? Yes. Because i know that i went the wrong way. However, that he brought that up just goes to show that i can’t hide away from it. That Erin is a part of me and always will be. Is it who i am now? No. I was a kid back then. I tried to find the easy way out and that wasn’t right. Now, the question that is bothering me really is why am i sat here, in the sand, wondering what the hell do i do? Why is he getting to me so much? The past is the past. It always will be a part of me and i recognise it now. I’ve figured it out now. I don’t need the quick fixes. I don’t need to be the weird one, the one that tries to use anything and everything to deal with what is going on. I need what i already have. My work, my friends…..~ Erin took a deep breath in as she realised something. Rubbing her head a little, she sighed, ~I’m an idiot. I am such an idiot. I know what my problem is. I worked my whole life just to get right, just to be me and now i get it. I realise now. Everything i need is on the ground. I need to share, to be more open. I need to let him in. With Billy, i wasn’t ready. Wasn’t ready to be that open with someone, to share the pain and the struggle. With Jimmy, i can do that. I can be that open. I need to do that because… oh… oh no… i get it… damn it. He said it…. I … i’ve fallen for him. And now, i need to tell him that. I get that he wants to protect his son, that is something i would never push. I need to just take time. Take it easy and just show him that i want to be with him. Damn that man. "Ladies, enjoy the rest of your evening. The meal was to your satisfaction?" The maitre d asked as they left. Ailynn nodded "the lamb was divine, thank you" She pulled a fine shawl out of her bag, she'd picked it up in case it grew cooler after dusk, and offered it to Caity as they walked. "Warm enough honey?" "I'm fine." Caity could tell that there was something on her mind but her years as a barkeep had taught her not to push. So they walked, arm in arm. Ailynn led them slowly toward a small pier that offered tremendous views of the sunset over the bay. "I've heard this is quite the place for views," She said, as they reached the end of the pier. Ailynn slipped off her shoes and wiggled her toes. Caity giggled, "Not one for shoes are you?" "Hate the things. Four inch heels puts me up to 6'6. Not dainty at all. You have heels and I'm still taller. She smiled. "It's good that it isn't a deal breaker. I've known people where it would be." "So, why here…. Why now?" Ailynn smiled, and pulled her gently into a hug, feeling Caity's warm hands on her back through the luxuriant silk of her dress. "Views...and a talk." "And there it is. I can read you like a boom, young lady. So talk." Caity said, fixing her with a look. "Maybe," She sighed, releasing her and resting on the rail. "You remember when you told me of your loss? It's time to tell you about my troubles, and I'm not presuming, but it isn't fair on you for me to let this evening progress and me keep something from you that could change your mind about things, and me." She spoke gently. Caity sighed, knowing that this was going some place that she had already been. Some placed she had lived and the question entered her mind, ~do I want to go there again?~ Hearing the sigh, Ailynn stopped talking, standing for a few minutes in silence, wondering if she should start again, or if she should just swallow the pain, and just call it a day. Ailynn could feel her own barriers being quickly thrown back up, defenses against her own pain. She knew that the one person that she was shutting out, was the one person that she wanted to open up to. Caity looked at her, knowing that she didn't want to say something and just watched her for a moment. The pain on her face was obvious, "What's wrong?" “I’m cold.” She said, “and don’t feel great. We can talk another time.” Her voice full of the pain she now felt she couldn’t express. "Okay, no. That doesn’t work for me." Caity said, turning to look at her. "Can I make an observation?" “Of course.” Ailynn murmured, “dammit Caity I love you you don’t need ‘permission to speak’” "I… apologise for the sigh. I just.. I can see this whatever it is Is written all over you. Ever since I told you about Sara.. it's like there has been a barrier. A wall that you don't want to pull down. So, observationally speaking, I'm stood here, in love with you and you need to talk. So talk. I'm not going anywhere." “Caity...this isn’t exactly what you may think.” she sighed. “You may think it’s because of what you told me about Sara, and...it sort of is, but not because I’m judging you, or her, but…” "But?" “Caity, I was her...I was an addict, I suppose I’ll always have that millstone around my neck.” tears had erupted from her eyes, the relief of releasing her pain, tearing apart her dams. Pulling her close, Caity wrapped her arms around her and just held her close. Not saying anything, not wanting or needing to, she just held her. Stroking her hair gently as she held her. “Thank you.” She managed. Ailynn dabbed her eyes and gently pulled away gently, but held Caity’s hand. “It started after school but before the first year of the academy. I was doing so much extra, work got on top of me. I just needed a bit more time each day. So Caffeine stopped working, eventually I hit the Bennies. Then after a while, I needed a couple at a time, then I stopped sleeping, so needed downers to sleep. Then the party chems happened. I hit rock bottom so quickly. You have no…” she smiled sadly, "of course you do. It was so easy to fall into, and hard to get out, I knew what I was doing was soooo bad.” Knowing that this was something she needed to say, even though it pained her to stay quiet, Caity did. ~let her talk~ “Then there was a new thing, it was made on a ship in the neutral zone, a new thing called Hex. bad batch hit earth. I overdosed, big time. It was only because mum had found out that I survived. Hit rehab straight away. Clean since.” The pain of knowing that the woman she loved had been where her sister had been was tugging at Caity’s heart. “Caity...I am deeply in love with you, and it has caused me pain holding this back. I wanted to tell you so much sooner, certainly before now, but then you told me about Sara, and I was so ashamed of myself, of my failure, ashamed of my shame, that the barriers that I’d let down came back up again.” Tears still escaped her eyes. “I was so scared that you’d see me as a burden, that…” "That I'd hate you?" “Yeah, pretty much. I’m sorry.” "Okay." She responded Ailynn looked at Caity, “Please hold me?" She asked, a gentle, sad, shy look on her face. "One condition. " Ailynn nodded silently, a tear still running down her cheek. Eventually she was able to whisper. "Anything." "Don't ever go there again. I can't lose another to that. Not again." "Believe me baby." She said quietly, "that was all a long time ago, a different me." "Can you promise me that you will always be open with me? " She nodded. "I promise, if there's something you promise." "Of course." "That you understand what sacrifice you're making by being with me, I can't tell you where my career is going, but I won't turn away from the danger, I need you to promise that you understand me? That I'm not just a trophy? And that you truly love the neurotic mess that I am, not the rank, or position I may hold." "If I loved the rank, the Ash would have problems." She replied with a wink. "I love you." "I know." She said happily, slipping her arms around Caity's waist. "So, now that is out in the open, what next? I could go for a vat of ice cream the size of that bath tub in the condo." "Mmmm." Ailynn said appreciatively. She then looked deeply in Caity’s eyes. "Caity?" "You haven't filled the tub, have you?" I need to talk to you. " Ire sighed, he really did not need this now but he new that Ravok would not go away. “Okay.” He opened the door stepped back to let Ravok in. " I'm not here to dredge up...you know our incident, I'm just here to tell you that I'm sorry and that If a part of you sought my forgiveness you have it , you've always had it." Ire stamped down the anger and irritation that was building up inside of him. He took a breath and controlled it as he spoke to Ravok coldly. “Good, now leave.” (Reply Ravok) (USS Exeter- Williams quarters- CTO/3O Lieutenant commander Ravok- 2204) " Good, now leave" Ire said to him. Ravok backed up and the doors opened behind him. " That's nice Ire, real nice. " he turned to leave and stopped , turning around and looking at Ire. " When your done being a complete f^(&!%# a$$#@/& I'll be there for you." ( reply Ire iyw) Ravok turned and left. He could not believe Ire. ~ How is he still on duty? ~ He thought as he made his way back to his own quarters. When he arrived he walked in and was greeted by not only his dog but his daughter as well. (Replies Ire) (USS Exeter- Williams quarters - CFO - Lieutenant – Ire Williams- 2206) " When your done being a complete f^(&!%#a$$#@/& I'll be there for you." He stood there looking at Ravok. His irritating growing. Why could people just leave him alone to do his work. They just kept coming and bothering him. “Whatever.” He watched Ravok turn and leave his quarters. As he the doors closed, he shook his head and walked over to the replicator. “If you had not been such an a$%£&%e I would not have been put in the brig and so behind in everything.” He ordered a brandy and took it back to his chair. He sat back down and picked up the PADD again. “Right then crewman Castle you want to do a small craft drop course…..what to become a marine drop pilot. A jarhead trucker….” He rolled his eyes. “…Well if that’s what you want….” He sipped his drink, certified the course and moved onto the next. “Crewwoman Madani…” (Replies Ravok, any) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< End Compile >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
