Taking off his lab coat and dropping it on the station beside him. “I’m not sure who put you up to this, but come on might as well show our face so the captain isn’t mad.” He said as he walked towards the door of sickbay. You’ve only banned that game because you lost to a girl.” She said bitterly, trading a greeting with passing officers. “This place looks amazing, food looks to die for.” "Hopefully the senior staff and other show up. Ash put in a lot of work, selfishly I want this to be a success for her sake. Anyways, care for a drink?" “You kidding? thought you’d never ask,” She caught the eye of a waiter, and took two glasses of Champagne, passing one over to Trip, tilting the other toward him. “To the Exeter.” (reply Trip) "Anyway, these are my spare duty trousers, and I can remember the ice-cream parlour vividly." Galu turned at the sounds of his name being called from across the Starlight Lounge. He turned to see Kyros standing beside a human ensign. He nodded and began to weave himself through the crowd until he reach them. "Galu did you know that these buffalo wings are actually chicken? I mean I knew earthlings named things weird, but I wonder why they decided to name a chicken wing, a buffalo wing. They should have named them a pig wing, and played into the when pigs fly phrase." Galu nodded and gave a polite smile. “That I did not know but I am not surprised as its not that only strange food name that they have.” He turned and looked at the human as Kyros introduced her. "By the way Galu, this is Ensign Adala Michaels. Adala, this is Galu, he's an engineer and a swell guy." Adala nodded to the young man who had joined them. “Hallo Adala. I am Galu Vozi.” "Well this is awkward, but I need to head back to sickbay, I only came to eat the delicious finger foods, then need to go back on shift. Hopefully in a few hours I can sneak away for some more of these, not buffalo chicken wings. Farewell." "Maybe I will see you later. I am not sure how long I will be staying. Thanks for the nice chat." “Nice to chat with Kyros. I hope your shift goes okay.” He looked back at Adala. “Which department do you work in Adala. Perhaps you should invite Nesha.. I owe her a lot.” Erin remarked, going silent for a second and then a thought occurred to her, “Does Ravok even cook? I remember him trying at the academy and it did not go well.” “Ravok, cook?” She laughed again, “Not yet, no. I mean he can order from the replicator, which is honestly the type VIs we have on the Exeter are better than the Type III we installed on Mars over a year ago.” She paused “Damn, that was only a year ago, seems like a lifetime, you know?” “It certainly does. (Reply Lavorre) (Posted by Alistair) (USS Exeter - The Starlight Lounge - Chief Tactical Officer Ensign Dareshaa - 1702) The captain had setup a party for the crew. The captain was young, and he certainly had his own unique way of doing things. Dareshaa, one who enjoys parties, felt it was a decision that many captains before Commander Williams would not have chosen. Never the less the party was set and thrown. There was no doubt in Dareshaa's mind that some officers felt that they had to be here rather than wanting to be. The Chief Tactical Officer was officially off duty and she no longer donned her official uniform, but rather wore something more to her personal taste and appropriate for a party. As she enjoyed her drink and mingling with other guests someone bumped into her which spilled her drink over her shirt. "Oh excuse me," Billy said apologetically, "I wasn't paying attention, are you alight?" "I am, but unfortunately, I'm all wet now." Dareshaa said with an even tone. "Good, I'm glad." Billy said, "Names Billy, Billy Alexander, Strategic Operations Analyst, I do not believe we've met yet." Using a napkin Dareshaa soaked up the liquid from her chest. "It's a joy to meet you Billy. I am Dareshaa, the Chief Tactical Officer. Don't worry, I'm not going to arrest you." She placed her hand on Billy's upper arm laughing. (reply Alexander) "I would be happy to take another drink. The next thing she heard was Paul Sleeford's voice once again, “The counsellors free Stan." followed by a man's voice she didn't recognise, “Ouch! Could Jester tell he was hiding something? What if she had him in her office for a counselling session and the truth came out? Would he be ordered off the ship? When the real reason he joined Starfleet academy came out? Was to cure a broken heart. A proper reason to become a Starfleet Officer? Taking a sip of his drink. His thoughts went back to a few years ago. Gale had been the love of his life. They had been sweethearts when they met at high school. So it was only natural that he proposed to her. When they where older. If only he had been wiser. Two days before the wedding. Two days. He had left work early to surprise her. Stan caught her with another man. The guy actually told him to apologise to Gale for calling her a rude name. Seconds later her new lover was on the floor. Nursing a broken nose. Stan now nursing a bruised hand and broken heart. Walked out. He never saw her again. But for a big city Edinburgh. Was a small place for a broken heart. So he quit his job at the Royal Botanical Gardens as a security guard. Taking the advice of his younger brother Boris. He joined Starfleet. Stan took another sip of his drink. Returning his attention to the people around him. He saw Greta making a bee ling towards Trip and decided that he needed to give them some space. He had an inkling about what she was going to ask but would ask later. He had not stuffed himself as that would have been unseamly for a department head but he would make his way back round again to try those Betazoid chocolate things. After Erin had left, Keira had once again started patrolling for individuals to converse with. She spotted Ire at the buffet. ~ Perfect timing.~ She swooped in before her target could move positions. "Hey, Ire, I hear congratulations are in order!" She said enthusiastically and lightly punched his arm. Ire smiled. “Thank you very much.” "I was so happy for you two when Greta let me know." She said honestly. “Sorry I did not tell you everything has been crazy during the work up.” "We've both been busy, but I am actually looking for you for a different reason, and it will take longer than standing at the buffet," she said. “Okay sure.” "Go ahead and finish getting your food." Keira said pointing, "I'll meet you at that table over there." Ire nodded as he saw the table Keira indicated. “I’ll be finished in a moment.” "Great," she said and grabbed a cherry tomato off of the buffet. "See you in a bit." She tossed the small fruit on her mouth and walked over to the bar. “Okay.” Ire smiled and was intrigued with what Keria was going to tell him so he finished his plate and napped a small cheese thing and headed over to the indicated table. The buzz was wearing off. "I’ll take a rum and cola please, and that package I gave you to look after earlier." Keira said after finishing her one fruit. “One rum and cola." The bartender said grabbing the rum and the fountain drink dispenser. She poured them both in a tumbler waiting on the bar with a flourish. Keira noticed she didn't appear to watch what she was doing but still managed to stop at just the right time. In the blink of an eye an impossibly short straw and a garnish cherry went into the drink. The barkeep handed Keira the glass, "One drink, and one package, lieutenant. Have a good evening," and then the wooden box. "Thanks, you too!" Keira said with a smile. She walked over to the indicated table sipping her extremely well made drink on the way. She sat down and waited for Ire. Ire came over and sat opposite Keira finishing whatever the cheese thing was. “You really should try this cheese thing. It's very good.” "That does look good, I may have to take a visit over there and get some food, more than a single tomato anyway." Keira admitted. “Yes you need to make sure that you are eating properly we can’t have our chief engineer fainting now can we.” He smiled as he finished the cheese thing. “So what this all about?” "Yes, it's about the box." Keira chuckled. "When I first met Ravok he had fought one of those enemy pilots in hand to hand. It had almost cost him his life. Thinking about the inherent mortality of of our condition, brought on because of his near death experience, I made him a knife. In case he ever found himself in that situation again. It's especially important now as I want him to come home to me." The blonde explained. "Though I feel differently about you Ire, as my friend I still kinda want you to hang around. It would suck if you died prematurely." Ire smiled at what she said. “Yes I think Greta would have a few choice words about my premature demise.” His mind flashed back to that battle. It was the first time he had deployed with his squadron. They had been very lucky that day Ravok had got stabbed and wounded badly. He and Greta had been launched into space trying to escape their attackers. He realised that she was still talking so pulled his thoughts back to the present. "As such, and like the rest of my pilot friends that could put themselves into harm's way, this is for you." She said and slid the light colored stained box over to his side of the table. Ire looked at the box as she passed it to him. “Thank you.” The smooth wood varnished box was opened to reveal a roughly 30 cm long from tip to pommel survival knife. It was made in the style of Air Force pilot survival knives, having a straight razor sharp blade with a clipped point and sawtooth spine and a two thirds length fuller. The metal of the blade itself has an alternating yellow & gray flowing pattern reminiscent of the currents of a strong river with a satin finish. The handle was as one form of them traditionally made of dark stained stacked leather giving it a comfortable but solid grip. Finally the pummel was the same metal as the blade with a brass butt-cap. On it was the Seal of the USS Exeter and it's motto on the bottom "Semper Fidelis" but on the top was another inscription. "Firmum est cor meum". Ire was stunned looking at the exquisite blade. He carefully picked it up and rotated it and saw how the light caught the metal in the blade. “I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much it's beautiful. What is the metal in the blade?” "Iridium mined from Bajor. Ravok got it for me, though not that slave labor stuff from the occupation, no blood ore for me, this was sourced fairly, with some Martian ore pattern welded in. I didn't know this before but apparently when you do this the result is not as strongly magnetic as a typical ferrous metal would be." “And you did this all yourself?” "Yes. The majority of the metal work was done at the foundry on Mars that Castile had set up before he left. This took me longer than I thought it would, but I started before we began construction on the Exeter. Finally got around to finding the time to finish." “It's beautiful.” He looked closely at the inscription on the blade. “I know that Semper Fidelis means ‘always faithful’ but what does Firmum est cor meum.” "My heart is steadfast/firm" she answered. "Remembering our first conversation, about your parents being lost to the subspace river, so I used that in the underlying theme. The phrase suggests that you'll never forget them, and the pattern welding is reminiscent of a flowing river. The metals used are Bajoran and Sol system origins like you are." She paused, "you can't see it here, but if you take the back of the blade the sawtooth pattern looks a little different… that's because the pattern is wave-form of the energy output of the river." Ire paused for a moment getting emotions back under control. He swallowed hard and then nodded. “Thank you so much for this. It means alot. It must have taken you a long time to get everything and make it.” "We do things to keep our friends in our lives. It just so happens my hobbies and my origins melded well to make…" she gestured to the box, ".....that." He ran his finger carefully along the sawtooth pattern and felt that uneven pattern. ~I need to get her something in return~ “This is a fighting blade not something that is ornamental?” "It's pretty, but functional. It will hold that edge against most things. I wouldn't recommend using it to try and cut your way out of the brig or against any spacecraft metal if you can help it. It will work as a fighting / survival knife, with enough force it will pierce most species combat armor. Let's hope you don't have to use it." Ire grinned. “Right so no cutting through doors.” He became serious. “Yes I hope I don’t have to use it. I was lucky on the fighter but it could so easily have been me getting injured.” "Yeah, who knows?" Keira said, turning a little attention to her drink. “Looks like I need to spend some time in tactical so that I can get more proficient in its use.” "I could imagine you waiving it around like some barbarian from ancient stories." She said with a grin, taking the little straw from her drink and waiving it around then stabbing the drink returning it to the original resting point. “I did basic knife combat in the Academy but I have not had the opportunity to practice recently” "I see." She said earnestly. "Please realize I was joking. If you want any lessons or I can recommend some programs on the holodeck." Ire smiled. “It would be a fun idea but at the moment I am just trying to make sure that I don’t crash the ship and my department functions. I don’t really have time for much else.” "Well there's the one Erin and I went through. It has an adjustable difficulty level, but the learning curve is steep. I'd recommend knowing what you are doing before attempting that one." She said. “Okay I may give that a look.” "I cracked three ribs, my humerus and had multiple cuts and bruises. I don't know if Greta would kill me for suggesting it…." ~ Or kill you with lovemaking for surviving it ~ Keira left the last part unsaid. “Greta can take care of herself. She would probably enjoy it more then me.” "Doug Marcaida was a fine blade master before WWIII on Earth he ended up teaching the allied forces and built their program. There are probably simulations based on his style, you can try that." She offered a good medium alternative to the deep end crucible that was the "Calisthenics Program, Lt. Worf" she had mentioned before. “It would be interesting to try something different. Most of my training has been in zero-g martial arts which is a totally different way of looking at things.” "Yes it is." She agreed. “Do you have a technique that you use?” "I was mostly taught by my father, he learned in service to the Romulan Empire. I don't know if it has a name. If it does he never told me. Mostly it involves keeping and maintaining advantage over your opponent and different ways of going about that. For instance, with what you told me just before you get in a fight it would be advantageous for you to shut off the gravity plating just before you fight someone. Your familiarity with movements under zero G would give you an early advantage in a fight." Ire smiled. “That might be true but I will have to make sure the gravity is turned off first but I can transfer some of the technekes. Did your father teach you to make the knives as well?” "No. I started with metal working when I was twelve. Hanging around the smithy , picking up odd jobs. Mr. Jordan was actually the one who taught me the majority of it." She explained. He looked down at the knife and carefully put it back in the box before he stabbed himself or dropped it. “This is so beautiful thank you." "It comes with a sheath that will attach to your flight suit, but my leather working skills are sophomoric, so I replicated that." Keira explained. Ire looked from the knife back to Keira. “Thanks you.” "The four of us should do dinner some time," Keira said. She put the now rum soaked marichino cherry and bit down on it. “That would be great. We have not spent enough time together during the work up. I’ll chat to Greta and try to work out some time that would fit all our work schedules.” "Good talking to you. Enjoy the knife, I'm going to go find Ravok." She smiled as she got up, taking her drink with her. For what they were able to scrounge together. Three Saber class starships were spead out just on the rim of the badlands. To took Tel some time but she was able to configure the sensors of the small ships to deal with the uncertainty of the badlands, it was amazing what one could accomplish when they had nothing but time. She wanted to be with her father. To her there was no one more important. He was going to return Bajor to peace and prosperity. Reunite her people and make them a force to be reckoned with. No longer would they have to bow before the Federation, Cardassian, or any other race. 'Cardassia a Federation member world.' The thought still felt like a slap to the face with all her people had endured at their hands. She cared not if it was before her time or not she refused to let it go. "Commander," called one of her Lieutenants. "Enemy ships entering our sector." Tel'ni'li nodded before answering. "On screen." The screen before her flashed to a small group of frigates. They were armed but no where close to the point of the small saber class warships. "All stations red alert. Scan the ships for any Bajorans." Another crewman answered. "We are reading five Bajoran life forms among the enemy vessels." Activating a comm channel. "Teleport room one target our brethren and bring them aboard." She turned to the rest of the bridge. "Prepare to engage the enemy we will take all we can and leave no true we were here. Saber 2, Saber 3 strike teams ready." She called into the comm. It wasn't long before they answered in the affirmative. All eyes turned to her as she gave the order to begin the operation. Three supply frigates moved peacefully on there way from Bajor. They hulls were loaded with precious metals, food, and replacement parts for various components and ship systems. Alarms flashed as three small ships dropped out of high warp right between the figates making targeting difficult because if they missed they ran the possibility of hitting one of there own. The Sabers however cared little and unleashed an onslaught of angry beams against the hulls of the frigates. Key systems were disabled as assault teams beamed aboard. It was a planned done to the minute everything was taken into account, and soon the crew of all three frigate surrendered. After all they were not warriors fighting for a greater purpose, they were pawns in a much larger game. If they surrendered there was a good chance their lives would be spared. "Commander all Bajoran crew members have been transferred to the brig. What do you want done with the rest of the crew." She looked at the woman manning the communication console. If they were not of Bajor then what did they matter. When she spoke her voice was ice emotionless. "Space them." In less than an hours time the attack was finished and they were safely back in the badlands leaving nothing behind but the bodies of those who were less than deserving of a new life under her father's vision. "Computer, begin recording daily log." =/= Begin when ready.=\= The Captain's long lanky stride carried him across the distance from door to desk in a moment. " Put it on screen" he ordered. What appeared on the screen was a vessel that was the epitome of the adage "form follows function". The were no sleek lines or elegant curves like on a Starfleet vessel. It was rugged, but not at all aesthetically pleasing. Compounded by the plumes of ignited deuterium wafting out of it and countless scorch marks from weapons fire, she was an ugly duckling. "Hail her." "Channel open, " came a response from the bridge. "Red Lotus, this is Captain Phillips of the USS Aurora answering your distress call. Please respond." Terry looked over to the Ops station and gave an inquiring look. ~Come on, anything?~ The Ensign at the station shook her head with a frown indicating no response. Captain Phillips was not a man of contemplation, he was a man of action. "Sensors? What's her status?" There was a pause. The officer's hands danced across the old controls. "It's stable. Life support has dropped ship wide by 5%, but otherwise unchanged from the distress call." "Meyers, away team. Take only four including yourself. Keep an open channel. Be ready to beam back in case those pirates show back up. Priority is on that survivor. Then the logs. Maybe we'll be able to figure out what happened to everybody. I'm less concerned about the actual ship. Regular reports, keep me in the loop." Meyers nodded in response to the Captain's order. He pointed to the security officer manning tactical and left the bridge to assemble the rest of the team. "Sir, activated escape pod." Ops called out. "Beam the survivors aboard." "Can't, some kind of interference from probably the deuterium plasma fires." "How many Pods?" "Just one." "Life signs?" "It seems to have some sort of sensor reflective hull…" The Captain nodded, "Some of these merchant vessels knowing escape pods will largely be ignored by pirates will stow valuable cargo in large life rafts equipped with a sensor reflective hull. If they get attacked by pirates they jettison the pods to get ignored and when the pirates leave they just go pick up their cargo." "What if they destroy the pods?" " Well then the pirates just denied themselves a big payday." The Captain says smiling. "Bring it into the cargo bay, we'll open her up in there. Maybe Tanaka isn't dead." (posted by Todd) (USS Aurora - Shuttle Bay- DC Team 1 - PO1 Tanya "Tanny" Sawyer – 0430) Tanny was the kind of NCO that was more of a participative leadership style. It made her team a very close knit group, because they knew she wouldn't have them do anything she wouldn't do herself. At only 23 she was young for a Petty Officer First Class. It also meant she wasn't much older than those she was leading. It made for an "older sister" kind of dynamic. It also meant that they would often talk about things that weren't exactly professional. "The things I would do to that man." Tanny said with a chuckle. "Who the Captain?" The young female crewman inquired. Their voices echoed in the small shuttle bay devoid of people, save for now themselves. Tanny nodded, "That salt and pepper beard, dark skin and low baritone voice, he's fine." "He's old enough to be your dad!" The junior crewman blurted. Tanny, "So?" "EEEEW, gross!" The crewman said. She moved like there were invisible spiders in her skin as they walked across the shuttle bay nearing the pod. "Can we just get this job done?" One of the males on the team asked. "They've got over two weeks of life support in an undamaged pod. What's your hurry? You got a hot date?" Tanny asked. "As a matter of fact…" he mumbled. "Ooooh!" Two of the females plus Tanny said. "Can we get this done?" He said nervously. "Fine spoilsport." Tanny pouted. "Hand me that spanner will you? Their sensors should be telling who ever is in there it's safe to come out." The tool was handed to her, it had an insulated handle and a snake head looking tip with two prongs sticking out that looked like exaggerated fangs. In all the tool was over thirty centimeters long. "Maybe they need some help from old "snakey". She inserted the tool into the port and deftly popped the mechanism manually. "Welcome aboard the USS Aurora, I'm Tanny I'll be your tour guide!" She started a friendly greeting as the hatch opened. She was not greeted by desperate freighter workers in need of rescuing, she was greeted by a whole mess of mechanisms, blinking lights and eight dual sets of person-sized containment tanks where people should be. In the middle of it was a small old-style Starfleet PADD, from decades ago. An image came on it. An older man, a Bajoran with a funny elaborate red earring popped on the screen, he began to speak. =/= For far too long this sector has wallowed in moral filth. Tanny impatiently slammed on the console that was older than she was desperately trying to make it go faster. She could hear the electric hum of the forcefield. Now the only thing holding back the deadly vacuum of space. She closed her eyes, tears leaking out of her eyelids and said her last words. "I love you all so much." She pushed the button. The blue glow of the forcefield went away. For a fraction of a second everything was still. Commander Trip Williams, Director of Starfleet Intelligence Vice Admiral Katherine Knight, Chief of Starfleet Security Vice Admiral Jono Janeway - 0900) The Exeter had been cruising at warp 8 towards Bajor for the last two weeks. Their original estimate was 18 days of travel, the Chief Engineer’s suggestion and reminder was that the sustained cruising speed was 8.4, but Trip wanted to maintain the Warp 8 course not to push the Exeter too hard too fast. It was mid morning, and the Exeter was probably a few days from Bajor. Trip didn’t know what he would find there, but he was ready to answer the call. What he didn’t know was that at that moment he would get a call that would change his course and mission in ways he did not expect. He was a part of the Vedek assembly before being excommunicated and disagrees with a large portion of what they currently stand for. We then had intelligence that he and his ship were leading attacks and raids within the Bajor and neighboring sectors, so an attempt to take him in was made. The ship escaped through the wormhole.=/\= Trip wasn’t sure how he felt about having his ship diverted to the Badlands. They were a new ship, a new crew, and they would likely see combat. Still Trip had a feeling like they could handle it. Though unfortunately the possibility existed that not all the crew would make it back alive. He began rubbing his right hand on the back of his neck, near where his implant was, that created the nanites that were currently attacking the neurological disease that would otherwise ravage his mind in the next 20 years. His reminder that he was normal, mortal. But he had seen combat before, on his fifth day after arriving on Mars he left the fighter wing during a battle at the Kupier belt. He had led them into battle other times as well. Life was precious and sacred. But he had confidence in his crew. “And now intel says he’s back right? And we’re being diverted to the Badlands to find him and bring him in?” =/\=Not only him,=/\= Admiral Knight responded. =/\=Also any higher Lieutenants under his command.=/\= “What other intel can you give me, is it just the four ships? Any leads on where in the Badlands? From our present location, if we ramp up the speed, we could be there within 12 or so hours if we increase speed to warp 9.” =/\=Just one more piece of a larger puzzle. He has a ex-wife on Bajor. They had a daughter brilliant yet problematic she has recently vanished. Little is known about her. But she might be working with her father. If that's the case his ex-wife might be a good start to gather some information.=/\= Knight replied “Do you have her name, way to contact her?” =/\=The wife is ex-Starfleet, Captain. Her name is Kozos Jebesa. If she’s involved you’ll need to be extremely cautious, she’ll be able to anticipate any moves you make. My gut says she probably not, I’d hope so anyway. There’s something else you should be aware of, the Bajor government has made us aware and asked for help dealing with some form of virus pandemic which seems to have started in the High Temple, crippling the Vedek assembly.=/\= Janeway paused for a moment, =/\=knowing Trentins attitude towards the Assembly, the possibility that all of this is a combined effort is high. Captain Sekal and the Illuminar are being diverted to help the Bajor government deal with the outbreak.=/\= “Understood, of course even if they aren’t related to what's going on planet side, that kind of chaos is ripe for a terrorist insurrection.” =/\=Spot on Captain. Either way the quicker you can complete the mission the better.=/\= Janeway said. “Alright, so that's my mission then, find Trentin, stop his operation, and make sure he can’t take advantage of a dire situation. Is there anything else I should be aware of?” =/\=Watch your back. This family has a lot of experience fighting in wars. That means they know how to take advantage of a situation. Either the virus on Bajor or during battle you give them any room to maneuver they will take it. Be safe and use the weapons and technology you have on hand. To include experimental prototypes such as the quantum slipstream drive and dark matter technology. We’re sending you a full intel brief to your terminal.=/\= Admiral Knight spoke coldly as she analyzed the situation. “Acknowledged, Trip out.” He said as the comm channel closed. ~Never a dull day. But using the Quantum Slipstream will get us there as fast as possible.~ (posted by Will, Todd, Jono, Matthew L.) (USS Exeter - Bridge - CO, Lt. Commander Trip Williams - 0930) After studying the brief that he had been sent my Admirals Knight and Janeway, Trip walked solemnly onto the bridge and sat down in the Captain’s chair. He then opened a ship wide channel. “All hands this is the Captain, we’ve been given new orders by Starfleet HQ. This is going to push us to our limits, but I know that this crew is up to the job. Your department heads will brief you on your assignments. You have performed admirably to this point. I fully expect all of you to continue to do so. Captain Williams out.” Trip then opened a channel to engineering. “Lt. Merek, this is the Captain, I need you to bring the Quantum slipstream drive online.” (Reply Merek) “Yes I know we haven’t used it yet, but I have explicit orders from Admiral Knight to use everything we have, that includes the Slipstream Drive.” (reply Merek) “Excellent. Williams out.” He then looked straight at Ire, “Ire I’m going to trust you here, don’t break my ship.” Trip said with a smile. (reply Ire) “I need you to set course heading to the Badlands, maximum speed, and I by that I mean, engage the Quantum Slipstream drive.” (reply Ire) Trip then opened the shipwide comm channel a second time, “All hands prepare for activation of the Quantum Slipstream Drive. Will all department heads report to the observation lounge immediately.” Trip then closed the channel and looked at Ire once again. “You’ve got this buddy, Engage.” (reply Ire) Once the drive was engaged Trip stood up, “Ensign Alexander, you have the bridge.” Billy nodded from the StratOPS station and made his way to the captain’s chair. Trip then made his way to the observation lounge in silence. (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - CSO office - CSO Lt Jg Erin Cortez & ACSO Ensign Adala Michaels - 0931) Sitting at her desk, Erin looked over at Adala and smiled, “uh uh, not a chance. I am not doing it.” Adala laughed and shook her head at Erin “Why not? It’s only a small cliff. The safeties will be on. I wouldn’t do anything that would hurt you.” "It could be the smallest cliff in the world and still nope." Erin replied with a smile as a voice broke through their chat, =/\= All hands prepare for activation of the Quantum Slipstream Drive. Will all department heads report to the observation lounge immediately. =/\= "Well, here we go." Erin stated, "Come on Adala, you head to the bridge, seems I have a meeting to go to." Adala nodded. "Have fun." She said as she stood and followed Erin out of the office, heading for the turbolift (posted by Jackie and Kathleen) (USS Exeter – Bridge – aCoS En. Paul Sleeford - 0932) Sleeford stood at the security station to the right hand side of the bridge, with More at the tactical station. It was unusual to have all three of them on the bridge at the same time, the CMO had ordered light duties so while on the trip Sleeford had used his reduced workload to devise training for security, do an armoury check and run the requalification drills for most of the crew, with a few of the senior staff left to complete. . Watching the stars fly past the ship on the view screen, as they headed towards Bajor, a planet that Sleeford had never been to, from, his academy training e knew that Bajor had suffered under Cardassian rule and again when the Dominion had taken over a third of the alpha quadrant. It’s only real strategic advantage was the stable wormhole leading to the Gamma quadrant Hearing the ready room door open Sleeford glanced to his left to see the captain walk towards the centre of the bridge. “All hands this is the Captain, we’ve been given new orders by Starfleet HQ. This is going to push us to our limits, but I know that this crew is up to the job. Your department heads will brief you on your assignments. You have performed admirably to this point. I fully expect all of you to continue to do so. Captain Williams out.” Sleeford looked at More and raised his eyebrows, something serious was going down and it would more than likely turn ugly, which meant he and his team would have to go and sort out the mess, hopefully with little or no damage. Trip then opened the ship wide comm channel a second time, “All hands prepare for activation of the Quantum Slipstream Drive. Will all department heads report to the observation lounge immediately.” Sleeford looked round the bridge then back to the captain, so the shit was going to get real, if the QSD was going to be used in anger before field trials. Walking to stand beside Dareshaa “You’ve got this buddy, Engage.” (reply Ire) Once the drive was engaged Trip stood up, “Ensign Alexander, you have the bridge.” Watching as Ensign Alexander took the centre chair Sleeford nodded once as he changed places with Dareshaa, no doubt sometime through the course of the day, the shift leaders would be briefed and then the teams would follow, as it went in the military, top down. Sleeford had already picked his own team in his mind if the crap hit the fan, he’d take More, Smith and Sytuk Ryakna, three people he knew he could rely on, even after reading Sytuk Ryakna ‘s files (Reply none) (Posted by Alistair) (USS Exeter - Bridge - ACSO Ensign Adala Michaels - 0935) Adala was still getting used to being a prominent figure on the bridge during her duty shifts. He tapped the activation icon and the Exeter leaped into slipstream. He watched mesmerised by the swirling tunnel that appeared on the view screen. It took him a moment to realise that Trip had handed the bridge over to Billy and that he had a meeting to go to. He paused not wanting to pull himself away from piloting the ship going this fast, but Trip had called for all department heads. ~Some times it was better being a lowly pilot. He had taken time to shower and find a clean uniform before heading for Engineering to answer the call of Lieutenant Merek. As he stepped through the doors of Engineering the sound of the warp drive met his ears. It was a sound he found comforting, almost soothing. He looked around and saw the Lieutenant, and made his way in her direction. She pressed a button and a holographic representation of the Exeter and all her systems sprang into being. She waived her hand scrolling through several system sub-sets before settling on propulsion. She pointed at each of the power generating systems in turn: “Warp Core,” it was situated in the center of the stardrive section. It glowed blue when she touched the hologram, “ Impulse,” She pointed to a pair of protrusions of the aft of the saucer section which glowed red as she indicated it, “Auxiliary,” four small disks glowed yellow two were in the aft of the stardrive section and two were in the saucer section, one port, one starboard, “ finally, Emergency power,” a network of small nodes that were situated all over the ship saucer and stardrive glowed orange and like the rest, returned to the pale hollow colors they were when the display was brought up. Keira didn’t want to feel like she was insulting their collective or individual intelligence, but thought this was worth repeating, because it told them why. “ Collectively the other sources can’t generate the amount of power that the warp core can. They would barely have enough power to even start up the QSD, then we’d be scrounging for power to work things like gravity, with our partial main power. So remember that.” (Reply Ensigns Vozi, Williams, or Kryx) “The QSD is situated here.” She stated and pointed on the hologram. You’ll probably also hear an angry buzz. As you can see, we had no problems.” (Reply any Engineer Ensign) “Good question. Jaelle had recognized one of the security algorithms she knew well enough if Adrmial Knight saw it pertinent to leave whatever high level, top secret, experiment she was elbow deep in to make this briefing herself that things were indeed bad. He felt almost qualified himself, but knew that he could never even come close to her level of brilliance. Ravok entered the observation lounge and took his seat third seat from Trips left and angled his chair to face Trip. He nodded his head at his captain. He could see the nervous looks of those around him. Their inexperience mirrored eachother, but Ravok knew with every fiber of his being that there was no finer crew in starfleet, with no finer captain. Ravok sat his pad down on the table, his left hand hovered over it, ready to do real tile research and take real time notes throughout the meeting. Ravok had become pretty good at this "in the moment" multitasking from his experience as Trips second in command in the fighter wing. Experienced and highly able officers all of them, she suspected that there would be few amongst all of them who would say they were free of nerves. “Good morning everyone” She said as she moved around the table. Catching Trips face, she wondered how he was carrying literally the weight of the entire ship on his shoulders. When the wave crest goes over the base and doesn’t collapse there is a small tunnel that sometimes can form. The Exeter looked like it was in that tunnel. She sat next to Ravok. Commander Trip Williams - 10:00) As the senior staff gathered around the table, Trip sent the details of the briefing to the holographic display at each of the individual seats. "Late last night, mission time, a group of frigates were attacked just outside the Badlands. To our knowledge, there were no survivors. The USS Aurora arrived too late to render aid. Instead they encountered one solitary escape pod. When they brought the escape pod onboard, instead of finding a survivor they located an improvised explosive device. Starfleet Intelligence believes that we are dealing with the resurgence of a cult known as the Prophet's fire. This cult has it's genesis in the feelings that were present when Cardassia was brought into the Federation." Trip paused as more information appeared on the screens in front of the officers. "We are being asked to head to the Badlands, locate the cult, subdue them and bring in it's leader and lieutenants. Our Target is Trentin Jost. Trentin is a former Ranjen of Bajor. Records show that sometime before 2434 Trentin made contact with fringe groups of the Bajoran faith. This ground began attacking and destroying freighters. He has under his command a Denorios class interceptor and three old saber classes. From a fire power perspective, we should have the advantage. Trentin disappeared into the Gamma quadrant close to a decade ago. We don't know what has caused him to come back, but with a dicey and sensitive situation on Bajor it seems that time might have been right to to come back and bring chaos." Trip took in a deep breath, "Among his forces is the group formerly known as the Cult of the Pah Wraith. They were a Pah Wraith worshipping terrorist group that was active between 2417 and 2420. They believed or rather might still believe that the prophets have abandoned Bajor and that the planet was in need of purification, the only way to do so was by the purifying flames of the Pah Wraiths. Their most heinous act was the assasination of the Bajoran ambassador to Cardassia, Ronal Ashalon after an impassioned speech in front of the Bajoran senate for the inclusion of Cardassia in the Federation. His assasination had the opposite intended effect, as the Bajoran senate withdrew any objection to the inclusion of Cardassia in the Federation. They made a Martyr out of Ambassador Ronal for the cause of unity. Bajoran Militia and Starfleet Marines then worked to sweep up and eradicate the remnants of the cult. In retaliation the small cell that remained systematically killed the entire of Ronal Ashalon's family. Swearing to eradicate his descendants and all those who stand in the way of the purifying flames of the Pah Wraiths." Trip paused to let the information sink in. "Trentin absorbed the cult to his cause when he began his actions in earnest. Renaming it the Prophet's fire. They had been silent for years. But the current attack reeks of their modus operandi. So that's why we are heading to the Badlands. I'm including all the information in the file at each of your terminals. Under quantum slipstream we have three hours to prepare. Lieutenant Foxglove." Trip then turned to Jaelle, "Trentin has an ex-wife on Bajor, Kozos Jebesa, former Starfleet. I want you and Ensign Dareshaa to give her a call, see if she knows anything useful about Trentin's operation." (reply Foxglove, Dareshaa) "Ensign Dareshaa, I'd also like you to have Ensigns Sleeford and More ready the ship for combat. We don't know what kind of tactics we'll see. They need to be ready for ship to ship combat, and get tactical teams ready for boarding." (reply Dareshaa) "Lieutenant Ravok, Lieutenant Cortez, I need the two of you to get your teams together. We need our sensors operating at peak efficiency and able to handle the environmental disturbances of the Badlands. We will most likely need to go in and explore, I need the ship functioning as peak as possible." (reply Ravok, Cortez) "Dr. Vesper, I need you to get sickbay ready for casualties. The group's MO is brutal, leaving no survivors. We don't know what we might encounter, what injuries our crew might suffer. Make sure we're ready, and that if it's needed there is a designated triage area." (reply Vesper) "Lt. Williams, right now, we are going to need you to fly your damndest. We need to maintain slipstream, or well, kaboom. Plus as a former fighter pilot, I know you will know what do when we get in a fight. But I want you in constant contact with Lietenant Merek. We've nout used the QSD before, so I need you guys to be in communication every so often so we can avoid uny unhappy surprises." (reply Williams, Merek) "Lt. Bracken, when we dismiss, I need to speak with you further on our plans and next steps." (reply Bracken) "Now then any questions?" (Reply all) (reply Bracken, Merek, Williams, Dareshaa, Foxglove, Ravok, Cortez, Vesper) (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - Observation Lounge - CMO - Ens Gabe Vesper - 10:05) Gabe soaked the information in. Bajor was always an issue, he never knew his Bajoran side, his heritige; looking at the other Bajorans in the room he thought he sensed worry from them. Hearing his orders he reponded, trying to hide the tone of his voice. "Response time from the trials we had is at 73% for status Beta, bringing off duty Doctors and senior nurses on duty. Shuttle Bays have worked well for emergency triage. I can set up a triage area in the Star and Drive sections, I'll lease with operations to get the needed space. I've no doubt we will perform. Emergency response teams will be standing by if needed and placed in key areas of the ship; including one on deck one, just incase." He gave the Captain a knowing look. and listened to the rest of the briefing. "Now then any questions" Trip asked "When do we arrive and how up to date is the intel, are you certain on the ships? Thats a pretty good fire power and the Bajorans are well known pilots. Im assuming we're on our own?" (Reply Williams, any) (Posted by Mat) (USS Exeter – Observation Lounge – CIO 3/O Lieutenant jg Jaelle Foxglove - 1009) Lieutenant Foxglove." Trip then turned to Jaelle, "Trentin has an ex-wife on Bajor, Kozos Jebesa, former Starfleet. I want you and Ensign Dareshaa to give her a call, see if she knows anything useful about Trentin's operation." "I will get right on it." She spoke the gravity of the situation already falling upon her like a crashing wave. Dealing with violent terrorist groups where always difficult. Because they were all committed to the cause, willing to die for what they believed in there would be little chance of engaging them without violence. She listened to any the rest of the briefing. Before the CO asked if there was any questions. Jaelle looked to him and calmly. "Do we have any word on tactics, this group favors? Any information on any of his Lieutenants and who they might be? You also mentioned these terrorist being able to survive prolonged in the gamma quadrant which means what possible upgrades could those ships handle? We need to have an ideal on what we might be up against, the worst case scenario. Also for this group to be underground so long means they have a base of operation somewhere if we don't hit that they will only return more fanatic than before." She analyzed the entire briefing knowing other departments would need to ask their own questions. But with only three hours to work in it meant with in 24 hours they could very well be engaging the enemy. She overlooked the concern faces of the gathered. "Captain. If you, or anyone else for that matter." She looked over the gathered. "Need my expertise for anything else all you need is to ask." It was the one thing Jaelle could offer that the others lacked Jaelle was at her core a warrior, and a survivor. She hoped that a calm demeanor from her experience in they eye of chaos would be calming force. We need our sensors operating at peak efficiency and able to handle the environmental disturbances of the Badlands. We will most likely need to go in and explore, I need the ship functioning as peak as possible." Trip ordered. Ravok typed Trips commands onto his PADD along with the notes he had been taking. Ravok glanced across the table to Erin and smiled slightly, nodding his head. His head filled with the dangers of the badlands. Nearly 10 years ago aboard his father freighter they had to pass by them, It was a dangerous region of space. Ravoks father always told him stay away from them at all cost, and here he was now on route to the very place his father warned him about. " Yes Sir, we will have sensors adjusted accordingly based off all available up to date intelligence" Ravok replied. ( reply Erin) As trip finished giving the other department heads their task he asked in closing "Now then any questions?" Ravok shook his head. He himself had no questions, he knew what needed to be done and he would have the task before him completed to the letter. ( reply any as you will) ( posted by davis) (USS Exeter - Bridge - CMO - Ens Gabe Vesper - 10:15) Gabe stood along with the rest of the officers and flowed out the room. They now had a mission, a purpose, a destiny and Gabe had a fear. Walking across the bridge he looked at Ronnie sat at the helm, he felt a little lost, he wanted her to know his feelings, he wanted her to respond, but it seemed that he was alone in this. sighing he tapped his badge "Vespers to all senior medical staff, report to sickbay for mission briefing." he closed the channel and entered the left. (posted by Mat) (USS Exeter - Sickbay - CMO - Ens Gabe Vesper - 10:20) Striding into the room he motioned to have all the staff into his office. "I'll get to the point, we're being diverted from Bajor to the Badlands in search of a Bajoran terrorist sect. The ship is in Slipstream but im sensing that the command team arent too confident of our exit. We're to go to readiness stations. I need a tiriage centre set up in the cargo bay three and shuttle bay 1, we will need to divert medical teams to key areas across the ship to drive down the response times. I want a small team to the Bridge one to Engineering all three decks. Larger teams stationed in the emergency bays; I dont want a repeat of the poor response times from the scenario we had, understood? Any questions?
