She didn’t have the cargo transporters to work with, but she had the standard and emergency transporters to use. She wasn’t able to get a lock on even one whole group. She transported what she was able to lock on to. "How many did we get?" Trip asked after the explosion had died out. “Fifteen.” Keira answered with regret. She ruminated on that thought for a moment before being addressed again. ~Had I thought of it sooner.~ "Perfect,” Trip replied. "Merek well done on getting our people home." “Thank you.” Keira said not exactly joyously. She turned her attention to damage control procedures. (Reply any) (Uss Exeter - Bridge - ACTO Ensign Paul Sleeford 08:11) Standing staring at the screen as the war bird began to crumple and disintegrate, with hull plates tumbling through the vacuum of space. Sleeford wondered how many had made it out safely, the answer came from the central area of the bridge “How many did we get?" The captain asked the second officer, looking at the pair Sleeford could see the disappointment on both faces. The lose of life would be horrendous “Fifteen.” The answer shocked Sleeford, he realised that they had been ‘enemies’ but the extinction of that many lives made him feel sad. Hearing they’d been transported to one of the main transporter rooms Sleeford turned to Ravok. “With your permission sir” (Reply Ravok) Walking to the turbo lift door Sleeford tapped his badge. “Sleeford to Bergman and Jr’tek. Meet me outside transporter room One, side arms and armour. “ (Uss Exeter- Deck 8 - transporter room 1- ACTO Ensign Paul Sleeford 08:14) Arriving outside Sleeford saw the two requested security officers standing either side of the door, nodding to the pair he paused and approached the doors, as they slide open the sound of angry voices flooded the corridor. Walking it he could see the 15 survivors in a cluster near the young crewman manning the console. Approaching the beleaguered man Sleeford nodded, placing two fingers in his mouth he let out a piercing whistle, as the noise slowly died down he faced the crowd. “That’s better, welcome aboard the Uss Exeter. Who’s in charge here?” Waiting Sleeford looked over the group. ~ A right bunch of rag tags, the disaffected from all over Bajor~ “Ok you’ll be escorted to a medical facility, where you’ll be checked over for injuries, don’t try to do anything stupid, we don’t want to redecorate” Tapping his badge Sleeford called for back up just in case. “Sleeford to More and Sytuk. Report to transporter room 1 for escort duties” ( Replies More and Sytuk) (Posted by Alistair) (USS Exeter- Transporter Room 1 - Sec/Tac Ens. Stan More - 08:12 ) More managed to jump backwards as Vesper vomited. "I think you need to get me to sickbay before you see yesterday's brunch Ensign." Gabe rolled slightly to the side and gripped his side as another mouth of vomit landed on Nixs feet. Stan kept his face natural but inside he was laughing. More had been made to apologise to Nix by the Captain. But he still did not trust the guy. For all he knew Nix had been behind the kidnapping. But for now Stan buried that feeling. He would treat Nix just the same as the others. With care , consideration and concern for their welfare. "I can't say I'm sorry" Gabe said looking up Stan replicated some clean up cloths. He passed them out to Nix and anyone else. Who had been hit by the contents of Vespers stomach. “ Yer nay worry Doctor we’ll get yer to Sickbay. He replied as he began an immediate scan for the interceptor. As he was scanning Sleeford turned to him “With your permission sir” Ensign Sleeford asked. Ravok looked over at Sleeford's terminal, he was keeping an eye on the areas where the crew were transported. With his powers observation , Ravok knew what Sleeford was asking " Permission granted. Ensign " As Ravok continued the scans Erin spoke up. Ravok listened as she pointed out several energy build ups in the suspected area of Lieutenant Bracken. He listened to Trip and Erin talk. ~ I hope we get to her in time. ~ Ravok thought. Just as he did the long range sensors picked up a ship." Sir it's the interceptor, they're headed our way" (Reply Trip) ( reply Trip or any on bridge) (USS Exeter - Bridge – CSO Lt JG Erin Cortez – 0815) Erin sighed as the sight of the Bird of Prey exploding filled the viewscreen. Knowing their crew was safe was something but the thought of those aboard the klingon vessel that they hadn’t been able to save filled her mind. Even though they had kidnapped the crew of the Exeter, there had been hope that they would be able to take them on board and offer them a chance. Now, they had none. The fifteen that they had managed to rescue was something. Looking down at her console as they continued towards where Ailynn was, Erin’s brow furrowed. ~What the hell is that?~ she thought to herself. The data coming from the sensors was a little confusing but she knew enough to know that it wasn’t good. “Sir?” (Reply Trip) “Not to be the one to state the obvious but we have a problem.” (Reply Trip) “I’m reading several energy build ups around the location where Lieutenant Bracken is.” (Reply Trip) “I’m…. well, sir, i don’t know. "Oh forget this this Computer, site to site transport to Sickbay" (USS Exeter- Deck 6- Primary computer core control- ( spcs) - Computer Ops Ensign Zot and Ops officer Ensign Rylee page- 0818 ) Walking down the corridor, Rylee was feeling a little tense. Knowing that the ship was on alert and recovering their crew mates as she walked, she felt a little out of place not being involved but she also knew that she was told by medical to take it a little easy after taking the brunt of the power overload in the shuttle. As she wandered towards the computer core, having checked that was where her next shift was to be, her hands tingled slightly. A muscle memory of what had happened the previous day, ~Ire, i hope you get home safely because i may have to go into hiding if you don’t. I know she was okay with me in sickbay but if you don’t come back, i’ll be first in line for the blame.~ she thought to herself as she straightened her uniform and walked into the room that housed the computer core. Looking around, Rylee took in the sight of the inner workings of the main computer. It was hard for anyone that had not been down there to know what this place looked like. Rylee, herself, had only been down there once before and the sight of the belly of the beast still caught her. Looking off to one side, she noticed the figure. Tilting her head slightly, she took a few steps towards it. “Oh, i’m sorry. I didn’t realise anyone was in here. Ensign Rylee Page. My next duty shift is in here and I just wanted to take a quick look around before coming down here later.” He kept his face down looking at the interface terminal in front of him. Ensign Zot was the Computer Ops specialist on the Exeter, most of his time was spent working in or around the cores. Zot was a tall and slender figure, typical body type for those of his race. Eunepians were a relatively new addition to starfleet and the federation. He was the 7th member of his race to join. Their featureless faces made many feel uneasy. He didn't raise his head to look at her, only glancing at her with his upward peripheral site. " Ensign Page Rylee , age 34 years , Trill" he said finally raising his face to look at her. " Unjoined" He said. His voice was soft and welcoming. " I was expecting you here at 1600, Is this a practice of punctuality? " Smiling a little, Rylee nodded, "that's me. And no, this is me being interested in where my next posting is. I was going to grab something to eat before coming back." He titled his head." I haven't read your file in great detail, but do you have experience working in or around computer cores or their subcores , Ensign?" "Well, I have some knowledge of the computer core but nothing exceptional." She paused a second and looked at the person infront of her, "I'm sorry, if I am being a bit nosy forgive me. I haven't met anyone from your race before." Ensign Zot stepped out from behind his terminal and towards her. " I am familiar with this statement of being nosey, it implies that you are prying or questioning to gather information in a nonconventional way. Are you attempting to question me about my race, Ensign?" "Yes, I suppose I was. I'm just interested is all." " Everything about my race is available to read in the ships computer. Questions of a more personal nature can be asked to me directly and I shall endeavor to answer them in a manner that satisfies your interests." Zot responded, his voice still soft and welcoming. In fact the tone of his voice hadn't changed with anyone he had exchanged with her. "So, what are you doing in here?" He looked to his right and at the cores main interface. " The Exeter's computer runs off a AC-21 Bio-Neural super series core built by Krayne Systems, based on Bynar. I am currently simulating a recalibration of the Liquid helium loop used to cool isolinear storage system, if successful I can decrease cooling time by 31 minutes 11 seconds. Doing this will ease stress on several key operating systems and reduce power consumption by 4 percent " He explained. Raising an eyebrow, Rylee smiled widely, "Sounds like you know a lot more than I do. My computer knowledge is limited to say the least. I mean I can work them, they seem to speak to me sometimes but other than that… the technicalities of them.. not a clue." He tilted his head. " Computers speaking is not a unique thing. Many computers have a verbal interface. Ensign " He said looking at her face. Smiling widely, Rylee forced down a laugh, "That's not exactly what I meant but I take your point. " " May I state an observation Ensign?" He asked. Raising an eyebrow, Rylee nodded, "Go on." " 89 percent of the Trill population has an odd number of spots on the right side of their face and an even number of spots on the left side. You however have 18 on the right and 21 on the left side of your face. You fall into the 11 percent….Unique." He said as he turned his attention back to the core terminal. Blushing slightly, she took a breath. It had been a long time since anyone had realised that. Now, this stranger to her had pointed out what was one of her most unique features. "May I ask your name?" " My name is Zot of the community structure of Dormos , but here ,I am known as Zot. Currently Ensign Zot. " He replied "Ensign Zot, i must say that you are also one of the most unique individuals i have ever met." He turned his face away from the terminal and looked at her. His eyes looking at hers " Thank you, although back home we all look the same. Nothing...no one unique." "Then how do you tell each other apart?" Rylee asked before closing her eyes briefly and opening them, "I'm so sorry. That's such an insensitive question. " " Our body types are different. Some short , some tall. Our faces all look the same. But if we want to determine who someone is we look at the arrangement of veins on exposed areas of the skin, looking past the epidermis. The arrangement pattern of veins is comparable to thumb prints ." "Almost like my spots. Every Trill has different patterns although you ask any of the others and they wouldn't notice. " she replied. " Others? Who are the others" He asked. "It doesn't matter. Tell me what I can do to help you once my shift starts? Any … what's the word…. cultural differences I should be aware of when working with you?" He pointed to the wall 3 meters behind her. " Don't touch any of the isolinear storage units. But don't worry when your shift starts I will be here with you for the first 4 hours. Since you are general ops you can just make sure all streams are flowing above 60 percent and below 90 percent. I will explain later how to adjust the data streams. As for differences of culture, nothing but I am hard of hearing and wear hearing enhancement units to provide sufficient hearing capabilities. If not you would have to shout at me. " He said shrugging his shoulders Nodding, Rylee filed that knowledge away in her mind, "okay, thankyou. That would be appreciated." ~he is so different. Interesting ~ she thought to herself. She had known that she would meet different cultures in Starfleet, different beings with differing skills but Zot was the first crew mate she had met that was more than just a little different. " I should add you're ever talking to me and my eyes are not looking at you , I'm not ignoring you or being rude . I can see with complete accuracy in my side to side, upward and downward peripheral vision. I tend to have to stress this one a lot." He made a heartfelt sigh. " It has always fascinated me how people require eye to eye contact to feel validated or respected." He added. "I can understand that. It's something we value. For us, eye contact is…. Well, it's important. You can tell a lot about someone from looking into their eyes." " When people say 'Look at me when I'm talking to you ' although I'm not looking at them face to face, eye to eye, they are however mouth to ear with me. Which helps me a great deal and unbeknownst to them I am seeing everything they do in my peripheral" He said with a slight grin. "Good to know. So, no making rude hand gestures behind your back then?" She laughed. " I can not see behind my back, so feel free. Even if I did see them. I would not be offended. They are only hand gestures." He remarked. "Zot, if I ask a lot of questions, I mean it as no disrespect. I lead a sheltered life on Trill. A good life but sheltered. Part of the reason I wanted to join Starfleet was to be out here, exploring. " " There is nothing wrong with asking questions, asking questions is the search for knowledge " He said as he walked back to the center terminal and watched his simulation, checking to see the tolerances of the ODN pathways. He was still listening to her. " So you wanted to be an explorer?" "I'm curious. My father always said it would be my undoing." " In curiosity we find ourselves endeavoring to discover the mysteries of the universe, no matter how small. No matter how grand. A life lived without the pursuit of the unknown is a life not lived at all. " He paused and looked at her to make direct eye contact with his black orb like eyes. " I have heard the term curiosity killed the cat, but among my people. We have another saying for curiosity...Curiosity finds wonder." Looking at his eyes, Rylee knew she was staring and looked away. "That's beautiful. Maybe I should think of it that way? " If it helps you find comfort in curiosity then I advise you make the attempt to include that way of thinking into your life as an explorer. Ensign." Zot replied. "I should stop bothering you. This is your duty shift not stand here and talk time. " " Its, interesting having someone to talk too, if you weren't here. I would be reading something or thinking of another simulation to run or program to analyze." He said, maintaining eye contact because she said it was...important. looking at her eyes. He tried to see if he could see something beyond the material to see if he could learn something about her. With his vision focusing in he could see the details of her retinas. "Say, would you like to grab a drink after my shift? Nothing fancy. I want to hear more about your people as I am sure you want to find out about mine?" He snapped out of it. " A drink ? I should be sufficiently hydrated by the time your shift ends. Hopefully you are keeping hydrated as well." He said to her with concern. Chuckling, Rylee gave him a look of curiosity and warmth, "I meant get a drink and sit down to talk." " I see, you meant a social encounter. The consumption of alcohol to ease potential tension in conversation or to provide a menial social tool for developing a conversation. It sounds good. I look forward to hearing about your people. The relationship between humanoid structured Trill and symbiotic Trill is fascinating to me." Zot said with a hint of enthusiasm in his voice. "I can tell you what I can. Having never had a symbiont, I wouldn't know exactly how it works…" she replied with a hint of sadness on her voice. " Does that trouble you?" He asked. "It's fine. It's tough to become an initiate. I'd have missed out on all this fun.' She replied with a wink. " Perhaps your curiosity will one day lead you to the experience of being joined. You should get going Ensign." "Throwing me out already?" Rylee replied with a laugh as she headed for the door, "I see you, Zot!" She winked as she left. Zot watched as she left and titled his head. Then being rescued in the same way , they had been captured. But the guy was always difficult to talk to even pleasantly. As if Nix had had his being pleasant glands removed at birth. Taken a slow breath he walked over to Nix. “ How are sir? “ Stan asked Nix “ Do you need any help? “ ( Reply Nix , iyw ) (USS Exeter – Intelligence Department–Agent - MCPO – Rebecca Faust- 0835) Rebecca sat in front of the console looking at all the date that had been collected from the asteroid base as well as all the scan information from the two ships that had taken the crew. The fact that they were now orbiting a planet with a very strange power build up around the area where Lieutenant Bracken was being held. She had taken the raw data from the sensors that were being focused on that area and added this information to what she had already been collected. Part of her felt restless with the need to do something. Data collection and analysis was important but was not the reason she was an intelligence agent. Her skillset was data collection by being physically there or remotely and yes analyzing the information was part of her remit but only doing that was getting frustrating. She was a field agent and enjoyed being out in the thick of it interacting with her targets having to change plans and thinking fast on her feet when the situations dictated. She looked around the department and sighed mentally as she focused back onto her work. She saw that what eve was happening on the planet was going to happen soon. “We need to get down there and get her out fast.” (Reply any) ( USS Exeter - Sickbay - SFI Agent, Lt. Commander Nix- 08:35) “ How are sir? “ Stan asked Nix “ Do you need any help? “ Nix looked at Stan. He could see in Stan's eyes a sense of judgement. The two had gotten off on the wrong foot, but to be fair Stan had threatened to kill him, just because he was being rude. The young officer had promise, but a real attitude problem he would need to fix. Nix knew types like him, always looking at the world with suspicion, as if everyone was out to get him. If the poor kid kept looking at the world that way, it would turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy, most likely in an incident that the poor lad would start, but not be able to finish. "I'm fine ensign, thank you for asking." Nix said with a smile, a rather pleasant one. With all his gruff exterior and his external mask of being a total jerk, inside he was actually a warm and caring person. He had to put on a facade to keep people at a distance to keep them from getting hurt. That and sometimes his job required him to be rough. The Exeter was a ship run by kids, a bunch of newbies with minimal experience. They had moxy, but moxy could only get you so far. They needed experience, they need to learn, they needed to know when to go and when to show deference to superiors and use prudence. (Reply More) "Anyways, thanks for helping out kid. But if its alright with you, I think I need to go find myself a fresh uniform that isn't covered in vomit." (Reply More) As Nix began walking toward the door he turned to More, "Listen kid, you got a lot of heart and a lot of potential. Don't waste it." With another pleasant smile Nix left sickbay humming an old Bajoran hymn. If they were going to get through this, they would need the Prophets help. Ewan nodded as he saw Vesper retch again. "Please, get me some anti sickness stuff" “Yes Doctor.” He moved over to the small trolly beside the bio-bed and picked up a hypospray. He inserted the anti-sickness vile and entered the dosage. He had not realised how many people had been taken and it took him a moment to process everything. ~This could have gone very badly~ He was ecstatic that he had seen Greta and that she was okay but she had been right, he had needed to get to sickbay. He dropped into a chair in the waiting area so that he was not in the way feeling bone tired and wary. He knew that he needed to be seen but by the looks of it there were people in worse conditions then him. The dull throbbing of the remains of his data port reminded him of that as well as the persistent reduction of his motor function which he was compensating for but would be very irritating. He also wished that the ‘smell’ of chard flesh would disappear from his head but he guessed that it was his brain interpreting the damaged signals from his date port. ~I think I will just sit here for a bit~ (Reply any in sickbay, any) (Prophet’s Truth, Bridge - FO/CEO Atho Turil & CSO – Dr. Fave Itel – 0840) ~Three shots. That’s all it took. Lost with nearly all hands.~ Turil ruminated over that as he watched the Federation vessel pick apart and destroy the vessel that had three vessels of crew with it. Sensors hadn’t detected any escape pods, but the Exeter had activated her transporters. There’s no way they could have gotten everyone. “Time to weapons range?” Turil barked. “One minute.” The helm answered. “Shall I arm weapons?” Tactical inquired. “No. Stand by.” Turil said as he silently counted out his timing. “Helm, bring us out of warp. Point our bow at them, maximum power to speed. Tactical, transfer weapons power to impulse. Shields full power.” “What are you doing?” Itel asked the man in the center chair. “The humans call it “press your luck” or “Chicken”. I’m seeing who will flinch first.” Atho informed him. “They’re hailing us.” The OPS said. “Ignore it. Continue course.” “Are you insane?!?” the scientist asked raising his voice. “This will certainly kill us if we collide.” “They likely won’t survive either, that’s the point.” He said grinning and staring directly at the front monitor. “They’re hailing us again….” OPS announced now looking nervous. “They’re locking weapons.” “Well, doctor now’s your chance to be useful. Use our main deflector to project a tetryon scattering field to confuse their sensors, it should cancel their weapons lock.” Turil offered. “What if they compensate?” The doctor asked nervously. “It’ll be too late.” Turil answered. A flurry of activity came from the science station. “Done.” “They’ve lost the lock.” Tactical said. “Helm, on my mark, hard to port.” Turil said holding a finger up. “NOW!” The dart-shaped vessel banked at an impossible angle to it’s own left side, rolling to the same side barely clearing the shields colliding. “Evasive maneuvers. Bring the weapons back online.” Turil grinned ear to ear knowing that the Exeter’s view screen would have shown the interceptor taking up the entire viewscreen before he banked. (Reply Exeter) “They’re firing weapons.” Tactical stated. “They won’t be able to hit with out a weapon’s lock.” Turil said with confidence. (Reply Exeter) The ship rocked with the impact of a phaser hit. “Aft shields are down! Aft Polaron array is down!” “The pup does have teeth!” Turil was impressed. “Return fire. Attack pattern Sierra.” The interceptor pulled a tight angled loop, rolling and dodging the still manually targeted phaser fire to flank the larger ship. “Fire!” The interceptor unleashed a three-shot burst from it’s forward polaron cannons, violet bolts smashed into the Exeter’s shields. (Reply Exeter) “They’ve compensated and achieved weapons lock!” Doctor Fave warned. “Evasive….” Turil began to say but was cut off. (Reply Exeter) Exeter unleashed a barrage of phaser fire from her aft array and a single torpedo. An explosion rocked the bridge everything went dark for Turil. Gabe sat up, a little cautious but up right. He looked around the Sickbay, everyone was attended to and Nurse Silvine was taking charge. There were still two officers he couldn't see. Thinking back to Nix he remembered that every crew member with Bajoran heritage had been taken, but only two were now missing. “I can also give you some pain killers of you want for your head?” Ewan asked Distracted Gabe looked, there was concern in his face "yeh, do that, but do it in my office." (Reply McDonald) Gabe saw the hypo as he slowly but quickly jumped off the bed and hobbled to his office. He felt the hypo hiss against his skin and his head clear slightly Arriving at his desk he swung the computer round and accessed the crew manifest "Computer, locate Dr Reyle and Ailynn Bracken" The report came back showing neither were on the ship. "Computer activate mission link to the bridge" Gabe heard the chatter on the channel that allowed him to follow missions from Sickbay "Vespers to Bridge, Captain, I believe it would be best to have Mrs Williams remain here in sickbay, I know you're concerned but she's been through a rough time and I would strongly urge you to reconsider and keep her in Sickbay." "Ensign Frost, maintain course to the Lt. Bracken's location, back to warp, same speed and course setting as before." Trip said with a sigh, "Take Lieutenant Foxglove with you, but make it very clear, you're in command of the away team." They had been trying to clear out Sickbay even before the abducted crew returned and had been discharging the non-critical patents back to their quarters even if they could not return to active duty right then. “Looks like we will be doing house calls for a while.” He muttered to himself as he scanned the patient’s records. He needed to make sure that any one they discharged early would not be come unwell in their quarters and would then have to be readmitted. ~Okay Ensign Hu it looks like you are going to get out of here early~ He walked over to where Hu`s was lying on a bio-bed. “Hallo Ensign Hu how are you feeling this morning.” The Ensign looked around at the mass of people in sickbay before looked back to Ewan. “I think other people sicker than me are going to need this bio-bed.” Ewan nodded. “Unfortunately, that is right Ensign. If you are happy to be moved back to you quarters I can speak to the Doctor and get you out of here shorty.” “Thank you nurse.” Ewan nodded and made a not on the PADD for a Doctors discharge conformation. He spotted Slivine and moved over to her. “How are you doing with all this chaos.” (Reply Slivine IUW) “I have trying to lighten the load and get people out. He knew these extremists had no value for life, only value for the progression of their agenda. This time not only was Keira going, but Erin as well. Ravok snapped out of it. The mission was above his personal concerns. He had a duty and so did they. (reply Merek) "Get your teams assembled as soon as you can." Trip ordered. (USS Exeter - Sickbay – Nurse – Silvine - 08:50) Silvine had just finished discharging her third uninjured patient when Ewan spoke. “How are you doing with all this chaos.” Turning she ran her hand through her hair and looked down at the PADD she was holding "Like I need a coffee and a dark room, this casualty list doesn't seem to be ending, you?" “I have trying to lighten the load and get people out. I have up loaded Ensign Hu’s vital data into the medical database it looks like he should be okay to be discharged soon. I just need one of the Doc’s say so and I can get him out of here.” "Yeh, I've noticed a lack of on duty doctors this morning, it's as if they've just gone off duty and never came back. The same thing used to happen in old earth entertainment programmes, I can't remember what it was called but it will come back to me." She laughed a tired laugh and watched as Vespers walked over to them. He advised of the situation and handed a vial to Ewan before walking off. Looking at Ewan and then to the door and back to Ewan, Silvine turned around and examined the room in silence. "He either needs intercourse or a personality transplant, I can't decide which" she said breathing heavily out of her nose. “Well this is going to be fun.” Ewan said dryly. "Well, at least you can get rid of Ensign Hu. This is ours, as far as the eye can see, just not the dark areas." Silvine laughed at Ewan putting a sympathetic are on his shoulder she leant in "Get through this and I'll buy you dinner, we're gonna need it." Although he had been keeping an eye on it from the Brocken Bow`s systems. He fingers moved across the console as he brought up main power. He could feel the loss of fluidity that he used to have and felt a pang of loss. Even without his direct link with the crafts systems that he had, had via his data port link he was still slower now then he had been before. There was a quiet nagging in the back of his mind that if he could not fly and was decertified he would have to be moved sideways away from flying to another department like Ravok, Trip and Greta. Apart from Greta flying was the only other thing in his life. Being in command of a fighter squadron had been challenging and rewarding in its own way. Even getting promoted to lieutenant had been an achievement but he was just a pilot at heart and was happy just to fly. But if he lost that what would he do, what could he do. He clenched his fists and took a deep breath. “Come on Ire get a grip you have job to do. That is the most important thing at the moment the rest can be dealt with later.” He opened his fists and rested his hands on the console as the computer beeped that is had finished and the Brocken Bow was ready to fly. He scrutinized the information coming from Leanado, the last thing that he needed was for something to go wrong because he was not paying attention. Once he was happy that both craft were ready he tapped his comm badge. “Lieutenant Williams to Bridge. As he waited for Silvine to send her instructions, he did wonder how many Doctors were on board. "Who do you want?" Ewan paused for a moment running through the mental arithmetic of who was available. “Not the interns….” He paused as he spied one stressed out interns bustling past. “….they seem stressed enough as it is.” He looked over as the sickbay door opened and a Doctor hurried in. “I`ll grab that one and begin kicking them out.” (Reply Slivine) (Reply Silvine, any) ( USS Exeter - Security - CMO – Gabe Vespers- 08:55) Gabe turned the corner and strode into the security office. (Reply McDonald, any in room) ( USS Exeter - Sickbay - R&SE Director Ashlyn Williams - 0900) The thing was with being generally quiet, largely introverted, was that all too many people mistook it for being docile. There was a point, Ashlyn considered delicately as she lay back in the biobed, largely ignored, because there were actual emergencies, and a stupid, pampered pregnant civvie with no rank or station was taking up a bed that the nursing staff had triaged for walking wounded. Sighing irritably. She slipped off the bed and pulled her boots on. Straightening herself up to a posture that she had seen her family do a few times, although, weirdly, not as often as rumour would suggest, it usually wasn’t necessary, she left the bay she was *ahem imprisoned in, and strode toward the door. It was not a good day for PO2 Masterson. She was tired, it had been a shift and a half, and now… “I’m leaving.” ~Ah Cr~ “Ma’am. I…” To her credit the young girl didn’t flinch, she managed to stare her straight in the eye. Ashlyn redoubled her effort and turned the full gaze on her. “I am leaving.” It wasn’t a threat, or question, more a simple statement of fact. “I am going to go and speak to my husband.” “Ma’am. Please.” She tried for a last time. “Petty Officer. I’m pregnant not bloody incapacitated.” Ash had spent a long time learning all the ranks, and responsibilities. “I never wanted to be the one to say this, but ‘do you know who I am?’” “Your’re the Capt...” Ash cut across her instantly. “I didn’t ask you who my husband is. I asked you who I am.” “Ma’am you’re the Director of Recreaaaatioooon...Oooh….” “Yeah about that. Weird isn’t it how people take a list for granted. A name here, a full booking there.” Ash turned her full irritated Bracken gaze to Masterson. “Bi-weekly spin class on stage 13 of the tour-de-france, holodeck 2 no?” Mastersons face paled. “Be a shame if you couldn’t get a slot again?” “Ma’am. I haven’t seen you.” “You’re correct you haven’t. I’d hate to have to mention the fact that my sister is Surgeon General.... I’ll throw in a signed copy of the new ‘Floppy Bunny book, for any littlies in your clan?” Masterson’s face lit up. “Seriously? That’s all you had to say...my niece...you understand.” In reply Ashlyn winked. “I’ll send a birthday message even.” Seconds later, Ash strode down the corridor and stepped into the turbolift. “Bridge, thank you.” Seconds later she stepped out of the lift, and strode across the Bridge, and stopped at the three chairs in the centre; resting her hand on Ravok’s shoulder, before asking out loud; “Where’s my niece?” “The question was a very very delicate one, but all kids of messages where hidden behind the subtext of the words that she used. She truly was her father’s daughter. Turning to Trip she smiled, glowing gently in her happiness. “Morning dear, busy day?” (Reply Trip, any on Bridge) (Gamma Quadrant – The Planet, Abandoned Shrine – FO Lt(sg) Ailynn Bracken & Entity Vessel - Trentin Jost - 0930) Ailynn rolled over, pain had happened. ~You are in the proverbial this time girl~ she thought as she shifted her weight, a lump in the base of her spine didn’t allow her to lie flat on her back. ~A lump?~ she thought briefly before realisation hit her. ~Ailynn Bracken if you had any sense you’d be dangerous.~ She reached underneath her, and pulled out her medical tricorder. Remembering that it was programmed as both a medical, and standard tricorder, Ailynn flipped open the screen, switching it to standard mode, the screen suddenly full of information most of which she’d struggle to understand even if she sat here all day and the next night. Time, that she did not have. She could see that she was surrounded by not only the forcefield, but the entire section of building was covered by a powerful distortion field. This would stop simply beaming out, or even anyone or anything beaming in. There were other safeties in place too, readings that she didn’t fully recognise, but that she didn’t doubt would make her job even harder. ~THINK~ Ailynn felt her body relax as she forced her breathing slower, slow, deep breaths, as her body calmed, her intellect whirred. She remembered how the display looked in her mind’s eye. The medic in her was utterly baffled by all the junctions, and power flow conduits and… ~Don’t think of a machine. Think of it as a body.~ Her eyes snapped open, and the screen that was in front of her was still just as baffling, but it came under the focus of her full intelligence. Electronic control systems, neurons. Plasma conduits, circulatory system. ~wait…They can’t have…~ Jost had, indeed, made a critical error. The forcefield and the machine itself were running parallel off the same supply. The chroniton generator had a separate sub-supply, but as in surgery, the loss of a major system, such as the heart, put massive stress on all subsystems. ~Now all I need to do is figure out what to do with this information.~ she quipped to herself. Jost heard the humming of a tricorder coming from behind the field. He was on the opposite side of the device from the taller officer, so he peeked over the long shoulder height portion of the machine to see what she was up to. ~Apparently our crew didn’t search her and left her devices on her person.~ Jost thought. He observed her for a moment. “What do you have there, Lieutenant?” “I’m not sure, these aren’t my pants.” She flicked the display back to medical with her thumb as he approached. She was going to die anyway. ~stall him, get under his skin~ “A medical tricorder?” he said with an amused tone. “Lick your wounds, it won’t matter later.” “So you figured out your mistake yet? I’m guessing the book that you got was the abridged version? Or does it come as a colouring book? I like yellow; what’s your favourite colour?” ~The room doesn’t distort comm channels. Oh now that was sloppy.~ There it was. The chink of light. Now she had something to focus on. Even that single atom of hope. “Your fear is showing, Lieutenant.” Jost smiled as he said it.. “I am not afraid of you.” She stared deeply into his eyes, the pain having subsided again. Pulling herself up to her full height, she set her shoulders, and spat back in defiance. “I am going to stop you; and I’m going to send your little friend back to the hole out of time that it came from, and there, it will burn for eternity, and you with it.” “Temper, temper.” He responded wagging his fore-finger back and forth teasing her. He ducked back behind the machine and resumed his work. Ozone could be tasted as he began to weld the final connections. The sizzling and popping of the welding of connections was quite loud. “Exeter, this is Bracken. Request generator assault target gps 522548.72N-015557.00W. Almost the marine stance that her great grandmother to this day occasionally found herself in. (Reply Exeter Tactical) Jost came around to the front of the machine, once the racket stopped. He placed the plasma welder on top of the main console. He keyed in a few commands for a test sequence. “You’re quiet. Where’s that vim and vigor you had merely moments ago?” “Oh it’s there. And biding its time.” She beheld him, as a tigress, held in captivity, would look on it’s keeper. However this tigress already had pieces on the board. “Not to worry, your time will come soon.” he promised and circled around again to the back of the machine. Checking the power flow with his own hand held device. “Missed it again. You disappoint me...Wraith. Seems that my understanding of Bakji dialect of ancient Bajoran is waaaaay better than yours.” she called out to him as he passed behind the machine. As he did so she opened another channel. “Confirm target plus receive tricorder file Bracken 099.Command authorisation. Bracken - six - kappa - nine - omega. Vibrate crystal to confirm receipt. Radio silence Bracken out” (Reply Exeter Tactical/Science) Jost tapped a few more commands in, the diagnostic was almost complete. Ailynn called out. “Since we’re both about to die...answer me a question.” ::Do not answer her questions. We are so close.:: “...and why should I do that?” Jost inquired. “Why? I want to hear Josts version, not the thing that speaks for him now. I know that you’re about.” “Very well. Ask your question.” Jost responded. ::You fool!:: The being scolded him. ~Why? She and her false prophets are about to die.~ Jost answered back. "I'm wondering why you killed all those people on the asteroid base. I'd understand if they were all Cardassians, hell... humans even. Large portions of the doctrines of both the cults here talk about Bajoran exceptionalism and purity. They were all full blood Bajoran back there though." ~come on Exeter…come on. Give me something.~ “Killed? I ordered no one killed,” he said turning toward the Starfleet Lieutenant. “I had separated all Bajoran crew from the freighters to spare them the fate that awaits the unfaithful…” ~What is she talking about?~ ::They proved too unruly. One of the periods you were unavailable I sent orders to dispose of the ones that were unable to align their ideals with ours. Your daughter proved very useful in this regard.:: ~You had my daughter execute them?~ ::Only the ones who wouldn’t comply. A third. No more than half…:: “That was not my plan,” Jost admitted aloud. “I had hope to spare the majority of them.” “Well that’s big of you. Considerate even.” She snapped back. “Save them from what.” “Spare them from the second half of my plan. I read your file. Executive Officer of the starship Exeter?” “Amongst other things of late it seems, but yes.” Ailynn answered. Continuing to babble for as long as possible to buy her as much time as possible. “Then you would have access to files from the previous century, before the alliance with the Klingon Empire, a scientific effort called, “Project: Genesis”, he began. “I’m familiar with it yes.” Ailynn conceded; she had a nasty feeling she knew where this was going. “So you were…” “I had planned to re-write Bajor. Wipe the slate clean, and resettle with the survivors. My people….” “You were going to what?? Destroy an entire planetary Civilisation?” “That government was hiding things from their people!” Jost spat back. “Whereas you where being completely open, reasonable and logical about your plans.” she was getting annoyed again. ~calm down. patience.~ “The wraiths, who were once the same as the Prophets, cast out for disagreeing with their fellows, they adapted to living outside their home...like I was cast out for disagreeing with the Vedek assembly,” Jost explained. “You were cast out because you...are...clearly...a...CERTIFIABLE...PSYCOPATH.” Ailynn screamed at him. Sytuk was trained mainly for security detail, but when he enlisted he had to go through several courses. Basic medical, which he surprisingly excelled at mainly due to his knowledge he had gained during his time as a mercenary. He also received training in transporter operations, Basic helm control which he was absolutely horrible at, and Tactical operations on the bridge.
