She probablly thinks I was raised in a barn!~ "Look no further, Dr Traynor. I'm Ensign Anderson, ACMO. You may be aware that our CMO was severely injured on the planet. We're CMO-less at the moment." "Ah," Alesia interjected as a flood of relief washed over here that this woman was not some blue blooded royalty that was going to make snap judgements about her composure. But she was still her superior officer and that in itself gave way to a certain level of anxiety. "It is good to have you aboard. Have you..." Anderson continued, but was not able to finish the phrase as the comm system sparked to life: =^=Sickbay, this is security. WE have a medical emergency in Ensign Saurik's quarters.=^= "Acknowledged." Anderson said with a long sigh. ~That's most definately not a good sign.~ Alesia thought as she could almost feel the exhaustion emanating from her superior officer. "Well DR Traynor, there is "no rest for the wicked" as they say." ~Rest, for the Wicked?~ Alesia wondered panicking, she was most definately not familiar with this expression. ~Does she mean to say that she is 'wicked?'~ Never having seen an 'un-wickedness' test on any of her Academy exams or psychological profiles, she realised, with sudden horror, that perhaps one could be 'wicked' and be in Starfleet. And if there were indeed no rest for the wicked, then.... shock hit her, many Starfleet personnel must indeed be, wicked. She would most definately have to watch her back, especially with this Ensign superior, who knew what a wicked person with fatigue would be up to? Alesia was still puzzling over the entire expression as she felt something being thrust into her hand. She looked up and saw that Anderson had given her a medkit, then headed for the door. Extremely perplexed but assuming that they were heading for the Medical emergency, Alesia followed. (USS Spectre - Saurik's Quarters - ACMO Traynor - 17.52) Alesia trailed behind Ensign Anderson, and walked into a bathroom that contained an unknown lieutenant that pronnounced in a rather matter of fact manner: "He's dead" ~Really?~ Traynor thought as she peered around Ensign Anderson for a look at the individual in question. The bathroom itself wasn't extremely spacious so the three of them plus the corpse of Ensign Saurik made for cramped quarters. But there in fact, on the other side of Ensign Anderson was the Ensign, submerged in his bathtub, with blood all over his face and blood red bath water. Alesia heard the ever familiar hum of the tricorder and then heard Anderson's voice pronounce: "Confirmed Lt, he is very dead. I would say by his core temperature that he has been dead for at least an hour. Any idea what happened here? Oh by the way, this is our new ACMO, Ensign Alesia Traynor. DR, this is Lt Orde, chief of security" Alesia was processing the information given to her at a very slow rate, it seemed as if she had hit sensory overload. Man in bath, dead. Lt. Orde, Chief of Security. Man in bath, dead. She looked over at Saurik once again and was all of a sudden overcome with a wave of nausia. The sight was indeed quite gruesome. Luckily they were in a bathroom and there was a waste receptical within close proximity that she made use of. Between 'sessions' she looked up helplessly at the Ensign and the Lieutenant. "Nice to meet you." She managed in a meek voice. (Reply Anderson, Orde, any) (Posted by Katherine Mazurok) (USS Spectre - Observation lounge - Acting CMO Anderson - 8.35) The meeting ended abruptly as the Captain headed quickly for the bridge. Rain stood up intending to go back to sickbay. The Red Alert klaxon sounded and she knew that would mean wounded. Kahila intercepted her as she headed for the door with Traynor. "Dr., I'm confident you'll perform your new duties with strength and compassion. I hope you'll call on me if you need help with anything at all." "Thank you Commander. Congratulations on your promotion also, and good luck." Rain replied. They both rushed off in their respective directions. Rain turned to her ACMO. "Come on. We need to get ready." Together they headed for the turbolift. (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Acting CMO Anderson - 8.45) The red alert still sounded throughout the ship but the sickbay was still quiet. Turning to Traynor, she said. "The calm before the storm." Traynor again gave her a puzzled look. Throughout sickbay, doctors, nurses, medics and orderlies waited. In two other strategic areas, crew waited to jump into action helping the wounded. It was eerily quiet waiting. Personally Rain was happy to wait and she hoped, as she always did, that no-one would die and no-one would be hurt. She was about to check for a tactical update when the deck beneath her lurched. She fell heavily and so did everyone else in sickbay. They scattered like leaves in a strong breeze. The ship continued to spin and rock violently and Rain clung tightly to a biobed support just waiting for it to stop. (Reply Traynor, any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) Stardate: 2406.03.12 (USS Spectre - Quarters - ACMO Anderson - 0700) ~Damn him to hell!~ was her first thought when the computer woke her at 0700 hours. If the Captain hadn't called a senior officers meeting for 0800 she could be still asleep, recovering from the fever, nanoprobes, endless surgery, paralysing fear and lack of food! ~May he choke on the "Orb of Indigestion"~ she thought as she ordered an extra-strong raktajino on her way to the shower. She felt somewhat better once she was out of the shower and dressed but she was still determined not to smile for the rest of the day. (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - ACMO Anderson - 0759) Rain took a seat next to Ensign Traynor, who still looked very confused. "I hope you slept ok." She whispered. Traynor didn't have time to reply before the Captain began to speak. "Thank you all for coming, with this mission, we've encountered and been exposed to some extraordinary circumstances, not only with the Romulans, the landing of the Spectre, the illness, the Xenolithe but with also the casualties we've suffered. However, with the recent discovery of the Xenolithe centre of their operations in this sector, we can now move this mission forward." The CO stood up. "Firstly, we have some more routine matters to deal with, I am sure you've all noticed the extra pip on our First Officer, Commander Lono was recently promoted and although its custom to have a ceremony in such an event, we've had to postpone it until after this mission. In addition, you all know that Doctor Cambridge was injured and is now in a coma." ". Ensign Rain Anderson, you are now officially our acting Chief Medical Officer. Finally, please welcome our new ACMO freshly arrived, Ensign Traynor.", he said nodding in the direction of the Ensign. ~Curse his eyes!~ she thought He sat down once more and said, "For the rest of the briefing regarding the probes and what they found, I am turning over this briefing to the CSO, Ensign Maber." "Sir," he started, addressing the Captain, "the probes didn't show anything of major significance. I think we may have set their alarm settings too sensitive. I have been over the data and have picked up nothing out of the ordinary. The only solution may be cloaked ships, but as far as I know the Xenolithe do not possess cloaking technology. I have, however, found out something else that may be useful. "Captain Remae, I have been examining a dead Xenolithe and have come up with some more information regarding the nanoprobes. It seems some of my original assumptions were incorrect. "The nanoprobes seem to have the same effect on the Xenolithe that they do on any other species. They would also suffer the same problems and eventually, death if infected with the probes. It is, however, clear that the probes do enable them to communicate effectively with the Nageri. "Therefore all Xenolithe pilots of Nageri ships would have to be 'infected' with the probes. I think that, once this is done, they would have to remain in constant communication with their Nageri hosts, or the probes will continue to multiply as they have shown in our infected, eventually killing them. So, the only way anyone infected with the probes can survive is to stay on a Nageri ship. "From this it seems that Nageri pilots are never allowed to leave their ships or they will die." As soon as the CSO had concluded an alarm sounded. "Sir, the probes have something," he said, walking to the nearest LCARS station and quickly rerouting the data there. "On screen," came the reply as all eyes turned to the main view screen. The screen looked blank at first and then shimmered slightly. The shimmering increased and two Xenolithe ships slowly came into view, decloaking. "That's impossible," Octan exclaimed, as he glanced down at the data in front of him. "Sir," he turned to the Captain, "those ships are using Romulan cloaks!" The room erupted into chaos as this piece of news sunk in. Many thoughts rushed through Rain's mind, but the main once was "did they steal it or was it given to them?" The captain issued instructions about how they were to proceed with this investigation and then proceeded with the briefing and the orders the Admiral had sent. Rain wasn't really listening though. The thought of the xenolithe with a cloaking device was playing to much havoc with her emotions to concentrate on anything. (Reply Traynor, any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, personal quarters, Kahila Lono, 7:30) Kahila yawned, as she sat at her console, scanning through the reports she'd ordered on the investigation of Ensign Saurik's death. ~I know that coincidences happen, but this accident is so bizarre. If it's found that a structural defect was the cause, we'll need for Engineering to run structural diagnostics throughout the ship! But I'd certainly rather have that, than a murder investigation. That's almost unthinkable." She shook her head, and took a big sip of the coffee she'd replicated. ~But I'd better get myself ready for the Captain's meeting now.~ (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, 8:00) Kahila banished her puzzled thoughts about Saurik's death, as the Captain began to brief the officers about recent happenings, then he stood, saying: "Firstly, we have some more routine matters to deal with, I am sure you've all noticed the extra pip on our First Officer, Commander Lono was recently promoted and although its custom to have a ceremony in such an event, we've had to postpone it until after this mission. Kahila met Captain's Remae's gaze and nodded her appreciation. She could hear inwardly Pierce's thought-comments, and sent him a wry empathic smile. The Captain continued: In addition, you all know that Doctor Cambridge was injured and is now in a coma." ". Ensign Rain Anderson, you are now officially our acting Chief Medical Officer. Finally, please welcome our new ACMO freshly arrived, Ensign Traynor.", he said nodding in the direction of the Ensign. Kahila's glance followed the Captain's toward Ensign Traynor, and she smiled. Then the Captain turned the briefing over to Octan Maber. Kahila's empathic sense, though relegated to a low subconscious functioning, noticed his feelings of surprise and annoyance. ~He's having a great deal of work and responsibility since his arrival; and it doesn't seem to be letting up.~ As Ensign Octan spoke about the probes, then about his examination of the dead xenolithe and his findings concering the nanoprobes and Xenolithe pilots, Kahila became fascinated. She wondered how such a system had come about; how a species so obviously vicious and barbaric in many ways, could nevertheless have developed sophisticated bioscience. ~I suppose its one more bit of evidence that scientific intelligence and morality have little correlation.~ Then as soon as the CSO had concluded an alarm sounded, and Kahila was startled away from her own thoughts. "Sir," he turned to the Captain, "those ships are using Romulan cloaks!" ~I wonder if they've taken the shields somehow from the Red Claw; that would explain the Romulan ship's seeming disappearance.~ Kahila spent only a moment thinking of what fate might have befallen the Red Claw's crew; but actually, she could bring herself to care very little. She recalled too well what the ship's commander and his entourage had been like-- especially at the mental/psychic level. The meeting ended abruptly, with the Captain heading for the Bridge and the other officers hurrying for their duty stations. Kahila started along the corridor to the Turbolift, stopping only a moment to say to Rain Anderson, "Dr., I'm confident you'll perform your new duties with strength and compassion. I hope you'll call on me if you need help with anything at all." Then she smiled, and rushed away. By the time she arrived at the Bridge, the Captain was calling for a Red Alert and klaxons sounded. Kahila sat in her accustomed place, pulling a restraining web around her chair. reply any posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, Personal Quarters, ACMO Alesia Traynor, 07.45) "Get outta bed, ya daisy head! Get outta bed, ya daisy head!! Get outta bed, ya daisy head! Get outta bed, ya daisy head!!!" A rather annoying electronically synthisized voice said in a rather repetitive manner. "NOO! Just five more minutes!" Alesia groaned, she'd already had a tough day and her sleep had been ridden with the images of the Ensign's death and she couldn't help but have an uneasy feeling about Eli's role in the whole caper, considering that she had found him on the scene. But the never ending voice continued, "Get outta bed, ya daisy head! Get outta bed, ya daisy head!! Get outta bed, ya daisy head! Get outta bed, ya daisy head!!!" "ARGH!" Alesia said as she lifted herself out of bed just enough to find the plastic and titanium decoration that resembled a terran potted plant of the daisy variety. She lifted her hand and with a swift backhand gesture sent the plant for an airborn venture -- most definately not its first flight. The thing clattered against the deckplating and the irritating shrill of pleasantries uttered by its vocal processer ceased. Then Carmen came. The opera, booming through the loudspeaker. ~Why on earth did I keep this wake up program?~ Alesia thought as her hands fumbled around trying to find the way to deactivate it. In truth, Alesia was most definately not a morning person and had conconcoted several different ways to get herself out of bed in the mornings because she simply would never make it to anything on time if she was left to her own devices. So instead, she programmed an elaborate array of annoying things all at once that had to be shut off in a number of different manners so that she would be forced out of sheer annoyance to get herself out of bed and turn them off. Silence. ~Why am I up again?~ ~MEETING!~ With that, and five minutes to spare, Alesia donned a clean uniform and literally ran to the meeting. (USS Spectre, Main Observation Lounge, ACMO Alesia Traynor, 07.59) Alesia walked in with a giant cup of fcoffee, possibly the biggest cup of coffee she had ever seen in her life. She had simply ordered a large and boy it surely was large, although she didn't think that would be a problem because she and any number before 10 am seldom went together without incident. ~I hate mornings, I hate meetings, this should make a wonderful event.~ She thought sarcastically as she took her seat next to another woman clad in blue that she recognised as Ensign Anderson from yesterday. "I hope you slept ok." Anderson whispered. Alesia didn't have time to respond because the Captain began to speak but she though, ~just dandily,~ remembering with pointed accuracy the vivid nightmares she'd experienced. "Thank you all for coming, with this mission, we've encountered and been exposed to some extraordinary circumstances, not only with the Romulans, the landing of the Spectre, the illness, the Xenolithe but with also the casualties we've suffered. However, with the recent discovery of the Xenolithe centre of their operations in this sector, we can now move this mission forward." ~All that's already happened, and he wants to move on? YIKES! What have I landed myself on?~ "Firstly, we have some more routine matters to deal with, I am sure you've all noticed the extra pip on our First Officer, Commander Lono was recently promoted and although its custom to have a ceremony in such an event, we've had to postpone it until after this mission. In addition, you all know that Doctor Cambridge was injured and is now in a coma." ~One medical officer down...~ Traynor suddenly thought with a shock and sense of dread. If this really experienced Cambridge fellow had managed to fall into a coma that must mean that things were definately not as calm as they didn't seem to be around here. ~JUST GREAT!~ "Ensign Rain Anderson, you are now officially our acting Chief Medical Officer. Finally, please welcome our new ACMO freshly arrived, Ensign Traynor." ~She seems nice enough,~ Alesia thought, but thought that she deduced from her facial expressions that she wasn't the most excited candidate for her new post. The Captain Continued, "For the rest of the briefing regarding the probes and what they found, I am turning over this briefing to the CSO, Ensign Maber." ~Begin the techno-science-stuff~ Alesia thought as she sighed and took a long sip of her coffee, trying to force herself to concentrate. For his part, the CSO began to speak, "Sir,the probes didn't show anything of major significance. I think we may have set their alarm settings too sensitive. I have been over the data and have picked up nothing out of the ordinary. The only solution may be cloaked ships, but as far as I know the Xenolithe do not possess cloaking technology. I have, however, found out something else that may be useful." ~And behind door number two we have???~ "Captain Remae, I have been examing a dead Xenolithe and have come up with some more inforamtion regarding the nanoprobes. It seems some of my original assumptions were incorrect. The nanoprobes seem to have the same effect on the Xenolithe that they do on any other species. So, the only way anyone infected with the probes can survive is to stay on a Nageri ship." "From this it seems that Nageri pilots are never allowed to leave their ships or they will die." As everyone was processing the information, a sound emanated from everywhich way. "Sir, the probes have something," The CSO said as he crossed the room and started to punch keys on the LCARS station. "On screen," The Captain's voice answered. At first, it seemed as if there was nothing onscreen, but the screen rapidly glimmered and as the glimmering increased in magnitude, two Xenolathe ships came literally out of nowhere, ~CLOAKED!~ Alesia thought all of a sudden with a feeling of shock! "That's impossible," The CSO exclaimed, "Sir," he said, in turning to the Captain, "those ships are using Romulan cloaks!" "Romulan Cloaks on Xenolathe and Nageri ships...." Alesia whispered almost to herself, she had absolutely no idea what the possible ramifications of that could be, but one thing was for certain, nothing good could possibly come from any of this. She sighed, ~I should have stayed home.~ When Alesia finally brought her focus back to the room and situation at hand, she noticed that the room was largely empty and that red alert klaxons were sounding. ~Off to Sickbay... ~ She thought as she rose and taking her coffee with her, carefully set out to find her way to sickbay. ~Please let me get there in one piece~ (Reply any) (Posted by Katherine Mazurok) (USS Spectre: Observation Lounge - Lt. However, with the recent discovery of the Xenolithe centre of their operations in this sector, we can now move this mission forward." ~Extraordinary circumstances? It almost seems as if it's business as usual. I wonder what people in more sedentry postings do for fun.~ At the captain's mention of Kahlia's promotion, his eyebrow rose. ~Good for her. Going from lieutenant to commander is not something I'd like to do, though; I wouldn't mind in the least going to lieutenant commander first.~ "Ensign Rain Anderson, you are now officially our acting Chief Medical Officer. Finally, please welcome our new ACMO freshly arrived, Ensign Traynor." ~I hope she's up to the task. I believe she is -- what with the nerves of steel that woman has -- but doubt always lingers... He's a good officer.~ (Reply any) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, CO, Captain Remae - 08.30) The probe report was uneventful; it seemed they had found nothing of consequence, which the Bajoran found troublesome because his task was uncompleted, despite the recent orders of the Admiral. "On screen," came the reply as all eyes turned to the main viewscreen. The screen looked blank at first and then shimmered slightly. The shimmering increased and two Xenolithe ships slowly came into view, decloaking. "That's impossible," Octan exclaimed, as he checked some settings. "Sir," he turned to the Captain, "those ships are using Romulan cloaks!" The viewscreen showed it all too clearly, Romulan or not, the Xenolithe were closing on the Spectre. "Distance?", said Remae, standing up all of a sudden and heading out of the door and onto his Bridge. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 08.35) As the calculations were made, the CO headed for his chair and opened up a link to the entire ship. (Reply from Octan) "Red Alert, all hands to battle stations, Nageri ships approaching.", he said, sitting down as the Red Alert klaxons wailed once more. ~ We're in no condition to fight. ~ "Pierce, warm up the weapons, CONN, fire up the engines, full impulse, heading away from our Xenolithe friends!", said Remae. The Senior Officers dispersed to their departments, some heading off the ship but most, including the CSO and the acting CEO, stayed. RPG: "Captain, they don't seem to know we are here," Octan spoke up. "Either that, or they're not interested in engaging us, Sir. They're velocity is too small and surely they wouldn't have decloaked if they meant to attack?" (reply Remae) Octan hardly heard the Captain's reply; he was too busy studying his instruments. Most of what it told him was not good - the ship was too damaged to even think about fighting the Xenolithe. One piece of good news, though - the planet the Spectre had landed on was still intact. they may be able to return the natives to their original home. If they survived, that is... Where was the Romulan ship that aided the Spectre before? Were they now on the Xenolithe side? Octan quickly banished the thought. There was no use in worrying about things he couldn't control. His Captain needed a solution and fighting wasn't it. "Captain," Octan ventured, "what about using our own cloaking device? We could hide while we try to effect repairs?" Would that even work? Could they repair the ship while cloaked? Octan realised he still had a lot to learn about his new home. (Reply Remae, Any) (Posted by Arnaud Malherbe) (USS Spectre: Bridge - TAC/SC Lt. When no impacts hit the Spectre, it was clear they weren't the target.
