Begin Compile - Mission: The Day After Day 3 Stardate: 11.02.2389 .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla - Conference Room - EOO - Ensign (JG) Duncan Flynn - 0900) Duncan had only been informed to report to the Admiral at 0900. The transporter operator had neglected to advise him that the Admiral would not be in his office at that time, but instead would be conducting a staff meeting at 0900 hours in the Conference room. So he had stood patiently for a few moments, before a passing Yeomen had mentioned that the Admiral was indeed in the conference room. It had taken him a few moments to find the place, even with the computer assistance as the station was huge. But eventually he arrived and made his way inside. His time piece read 0900, but it appeared that the Admiral had already begun. ~Damn I'm late.~ he thought to himself. He hated being late for anything. The Admiral went on to introduce the new arrival, himself included, and to promote another officer to the position of First Officer. "Congratulations!" Duncan added to the hail of other congratulatory comments to the newly promoted officer. The Admiral went on to remind everyone about a wormhole that was opening and closing in the sector. As this was the first that Flynn had heard about this, he was a little surprised that such an occurrence was so well hidden from the citizens of Earth. Still he could understand the need. “Very well. I want to continue the update by passing this meeting over to our Strategic Operations Officer, Captain Rulestaad. Starfleet Command has recently informed me that a carrier group lead by the USS Titan is on their way for repairs and refit… Captain, can you break down their group for us and also, any other major fleet movements in Utopia Planitia’s operational sphere?”, said the Admiral. (reply SOO) Duncan listened intently as the SOO detailed the movements of the vessels in the area. There was a lot of information to absorb, and Duncan made notes as he was able. The problem was that there was so much information and it was conveyed rapidly. When the SOO was finished, Duncan was certain that he had missed something important. He'd have to request a complete transcript from the ship's computer after the mission. When Captain Rulestaad was finished, the Admiral opened the floor up to anyone else that needed to say something. Duncan, being newly arrived on the station, had nothing of value to contribute and didn't want to be guilty of holding anyone up unnecessarily, so he remained quiet. .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla, Conference Room, TSO, Zero One Zero- 09.05) Jopek picked up a PADD, "I want to welcome a few new faces to our Command Team, starting with the new Starfleet Academy Liaison, Lt Will Alexander, the new Exploratory Operations Officer Ensign Duncan Flynn, our new Theoretical Science Officer, Ensign Zero One Zero and finally, we've received confirmation of Mr Lor's promotion and new position of First Officer, congratulations Lieutenant.", Zero One Zero stopped running through the lists he had gotten from the computer. He found it difficult to follow the conversation. Not for the first time he had wished Zero One one was with him. She was much better the he was. "Thank you Sir." He then settled down and began to concentrate on the meeting. "Firstly, to old business, the recently appearing and disappearing wormhole in this sector had us all confused for a while, it hasn't reappeared for 24 hours. We still have our sensor readings from our trip through and they are being analysed, Professor Verhoven, can you bring our new TSO, Ensign Zero One Zero, up to speed on your findings?", He listened to Professor Verhoven findings intently. As the Professor finished he had already begun a list of inquiries he would send to the computer when the meeting was finished. .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla, Conference Room, SCL Ens. Damo Xivalere – 09.10) The bajoran ensign had slunk in late for the meeting, citing the urgent communiqué with the UPL (Utopia Planetia Liaison) that had arrived prior to the Admiral calling the meeting.Command had, in their infinite intelligence, suggested that the UP shipyard start production of a prototype vessel immediately, giving a broad set of Mission suggestions for such a vessel: it was to be a Long-Range, Deep-Space research and recon vessel, but would be a lot smaller than most: 5 decks maximum, and a crew complement of 50. Given a working title of "Alpha", as befitted the first new ship class of the redesigned Starfleet, it was to be designed and fast tracked through the development phase, and into preliminary testing as soon as possible. Xiv's mind was racing with the possibilities that it suggested to him, with the communiqué's attached designs helping him think that most of the work had already been accomplished: it was pretty clear that the design was ready, and just needed the tweaking and meddling of a duty engineer. Xiv was shaken by mention of Command."Oh. The SFC contacted me about a rush priority job for a new prototype research and recon vessel class. I have designs and schematics for the Yard officers. That's all." .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla, Conference Room, XO/YEO Lt. (jg) Tannis Lor – 09.20) Tannis had just received confirmation of his promotion and position as XO, which made him much more comfortable that he wasn't going to get drummed out of the Fleet for losing the Admiral the day before. He was optimistic that the issue with the anomaly would be cleared up in no time, especially with the best minds in the Federation sitting on Mars thinking about it non stop for a few days. The Admiral moved on to tell them that the Carrier Group lead by the USS Titan was in bound for a refit and R&R, news that made Tannis groan inwardly. The Titan was one of the new Luna class ships, and this was the first time a Luna class has been back through Utopia Planitia for a refit. Continuing to listen to the Strategic Operations officer give her report, he picked up his PADD and started the Computer searching through his Yard officers and their crews, to find anyone who had worked on any of the Luna class construction projects. He would need as many of them as he could get to help bring the new folks up to speed. The one benefit was that with the Luna class being so new, most of the newer crew members had studied it when they were coming out of the academy. He knew he had one Repair and Refit bay open in his Ship Yard, so he quickly assigned it to the Titan, wanting to keep a personal eye on that ship, he'd deal with assigning the rest of the carrier group after the meeting. Looking back up Tannis continued to listen to the SOO finish her report. .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla, Conference Room, CO, Admiral Jopek – 09.30) Jopek had listened to many of the reports and so far it had seemed that most of the departments were running well, but the Admiral was always concerned about the Civilians down on Mars, they were essential to the smooth operation of the facility. He made a mental note to head down to Mars as soon as he could. “The final notice is that the USS Firebrande, our experimental Galaxy Class Starship currently in Docking Bay 13, has begun retrofitting some new systems that Starfleet wants tested immediately, including her warp drive, tactical systems, separation sequencers and tractor emitters.”, Jopek stood up and headed over to the large screen to display the schematics. “Starfleet Engineering has already sent most of these complete components and all they need is fitting to the ship and then testing… they’ve indicated to me that if all goes well, these ship systems will be incorporated into the next generation of starships.”, Jopek pressed a button and a whole page of data appeared. “What most people aren’t aware of, is that the tactical systems are getting the largest update… Lieutenant Bradley, this being the case, I am putting you in charge of this project. When Ensign Tor’s teams are completely finished, you’ll assemble a small team, take the ship out to the training grounds at Alpha Centauri and put these new systems to the test.”, he said passing a PADD to the Tactical Command Officer. (Reply from Bradley) “Mr Lor, I want the Firebrande ready for departure at 0900 tomorrow, please use any personnel from Utopia Planitia you need to make this achievable.”, said Jopek, looking at the new First Officer. (Reply from Tor) “Ensign Flynn, I recommend you attend this mission too… the new power grid that the Firebrand has installed already, has some unique sensor abilities, could be interesting for an Exploratory Operations Officer.”, he said to the EOO. (Reply from Flynn) “Mr Tor, Mr Damo, I need to see you both in the Ready Room at 10.30 today, I need to discuss some Starfleet matters… dismissed.”, he said ending the meeting. .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla, Conference Room, TCO, Lt(jg) Rebecca Bradley – 09.34) “The final notice is that the USS Firebrande, our experimental Galaxy Class Starship currently in Docking Bay 13, has begun retrofitting some new systems that Starfleet wants tested immediately, including her warp drive, tactical systems, separation sequencers and tractor emitters.”, Jopek stood up and headed over to the large screen to display the schematics. Becky looked at the schematics with interest, Of course she had seen them several times over as she had been in charge of setting up the tactical systems for this ship. It included several of the newest designs which she was very interested in testing. “Starfleet Engineering has already sent most of these complete components and all they need is fitting to the ship and then testing… they’ve indicated to me that if all goes well, these ship systems will be incorporated into the next generation of starships.”, Jopek pressed a button and a whole page of data appeared. She noted down some of the data she could see while the Admiral was speaking. Becky nodded and took the PADD off the Admiral, She quickly skimmed her orders and then said, "I'll be ready, I'll get the team together." was all she said while she nodded. “Mr Lor, I want the Firebrande ready for departure at 0900 tomorrow, please use any personnel from Utopia Plantia you need to make this achievable.”, (Reply Lor) Becky looked to Lor and nodded, ~0900 tomorrow, Better get a team ready then~ She thought about the next 24 hours. “Ensign Flynn, I recommend you attend this mission too… the new power grid that the Firebrand has installed already, has some unique sensor abilities, could be interesting for an Exploratory Operations Officer.” The Admiral said. "Aye Admiral, looking forward to it." Flynn said, Becky looked to the Ensign - she'd be working with him the next day. The Admiral then went on to dismiss the meeting and Becky nodded to everyone as she left. .............................................. (Starbase Valhalla - Conference Room - EOO - Ensign (JG) Duncan Flynn - 0935) Duncan listened as the Admiral mentioned a Galaxy Class variant named the USS Firebrande. Apparently there were several modifications to the vessels tactical systems, but then the Admiral made a recommendation that he attend as well. The reason for his recommendation became apparent as the Admiral spoke. “Ensign Flynn, I recommend you attend this mission too… the new power grid that the Firebrande has installed already, has some unique sensor abilities, could be interesting for an Exploratory Operations Officer,” he said. "Aye Admiral, looking forward to it." he replied and waited for the remainder of the meeting to conclude. It looked like his first day on station and he'd been assigned homework. He just hoped he was up for the challenge. .............................................. (SB Valhalla, Conference Room - XO/YEO Lieutenant (jg) Tannis Lor - 0939) "The final notice is that the USS Firebrande, our experimental Galaxy Class Starship currently in Docking Bay 13, has begun retrofitting some new systems that Starfleet wants tested immediately, including her warp drive, tactical systems, separation sequencers and tractor emitters.", Jopek stood up and headed over to the large screen to display the schematics. "Starfleet Engineering has already sent most of these complete components and all they need is fitting to the ship and then testing… they've indicated to me that if all goes well, these ship systems will be incorporated into the next generation of starships.", Jopek pressed a button and a whole page of data appeared. "What most people aren't aware of, is that the tactical systems are getting the largest update… Lieutenant Bradley, this being the case, I am putting you in charge of this project. When Lieutenant Tor's teams are completely finished, you'll assemble a small team, take the ship out to the training grounds at Alpha Centauri and put these new systems to the test.", he said passing a PADD to the Tactical Command Officer. "I'll be ready, I'll get the team together." the Lieutenant said "Mr Lor, I want the Firebrande ready for departure at 0900 tomorrow, please use any personnel from Utopia Planitia you need to make this achievable.", said Jopek, looking at the new First Officer. Tannis managed not to roll his eyes or sigh or any other expression of how glad he was that he had 24 hours to fit a ship with untested gear he nor any of his teams had ever seen or worked with prior to this. "The ship will be ready, I'll alter schedules accordingly to get the personnel for the job," Tannis said, he knew there were going to be Yard officers and Structural Core officers who would not be all that happy to have their schedules altered. "Ensign Flynn, I recommend you attend this mission too… the new power grid that the Firebrand has installed already, has some unique sensor abilities, could be interesting for an Exploratory Operations Officer.", he said to the EOO. "Aye Admiral, looking forward to it." "Mr Tor, Mr Damo, I need to see you both in the Ready Room at 10.30 today, I need to discuss some Starfleet matters… dismissed.", he said ending the meeting. "Aye sir," Tannis said, wondering what the Admiral needed to talk about. Quietly he walked out of the meeting and stood in the hallway for a moment before heading for the Chief Yard Engineer and Orbital Operations Office. They hadn't managed to snag a Chief yet, but the Admiral had asked him to keep an eye on the other shipyards as well. That, combined with the fact that he was the XO, meant he was just going to appropriate the office for his own use while aboard Valhalla instead of his Shipyard. (SB Valhalla, Chief Yard/Orbital Operations Office - XO/YEO Lieutenant(jg) Tannis Lor - 0942) Tannis walked into the large round room, it was roughly four times the size of his room at Shipyard 8, but set up identically, it just had more wall screens. As he moved to the centre of the 270 degree desk, the screens activated on their own, showing images of the individual shipyards. "Computer transfer all of my saved protocols from Shipyard 8, and implement them on all listing of work groups, schedules, and personnel reports," Tannis said sitting down in the much more comfortable chair than his own. "Computer, also alert me at 1020 hours." Getting down to work, Tannis gave one look at the screen then started giving orders. "Computer, display the following work gangs: Science/Sensors, Power and Computer systems, Warp Systems,External/Internal Structural, and Tactical, for all Utopia Planitia Ship Yards. Show only those who's team leaders are listed as having extensive work time on Galaxy Class ships." Quickly a list formed on the screen, colour coded as Tannis liked for easy reading. "Separate each unit type onto individual screens and prioritize each list according to last date of Galaxy class work, most recent on top." The computer beeped and affirmative, and as it worked Tannis got up and walked to a wall replicator and ordered a coffee. He moved back to the desk and looked at the screens that filled the walls from floor to ceiling, now sorted and separated. "Computer, cross list... of those teams listed, highlight those with recent, past year, experience with new technology within their fields, on any class of ship." Soon enough the lists had everything he was looking for. "Computer, from displayed rosters, reassign Tactical teams 1, 3 and 4; Science/sensor teams 2, 5 and 7; Warp teams 1, 2, 5, and 6; External/Internal Structural teams 2, 4 and 6; and Power and Computer teams 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9, to Docking bay 13, TAD, alert the previously mentioned team leaders to meet me in this office at 1115 hours for top priority construction orders." Tannis said, then sighed, quickly writing an note to explain why he had just stolen 13 work groups, 5 of them had been from his Shipyard luckily, from various shipyards, and that they would have them back in 24 hours give or take. Sending that out, Tannis quickly started looking over the schematics of the new equipment they were to be installing. He very much didn't like drastically changing the warp assembly for a ship with only 24 hours to make sure they had installed the new components correctly, when no one had done it before. However, as much as he didn't like it, he knew that they would get everything done. .............................................. (Mars, Hellas Planitia, Daedalus Base, CO's Office - SCECO LT(jg) Emily Brasher - 1000) "I know you just got to Mars, Lieutenant, but you'll be going right back to work," Captain Petrovich said, sitting behind his desk. "Of course sir, I had some R&R with the Damascus just before I got my transfer orders," Emily said. She hand only recently gotten her lieutenant pips and the new orders just after that. She had been stationed on the USS Damascus prior to being recalled, and she had to admit being stuck out on the fringe of the Federation had it's downsides. She was hoping for something more central to the Federation this time around, but she'd take what ever the Captain had for her. "Good to hear," the Emergency Response division CO said in his thick Russian accent. Emily always found it interesting that despite a united Earth, and a huge Federation, regions still retained the speech patterns they had had for hundreds of years. The Captain stood up and handed Emily a PADD. Nodding to her to read it over. Emily brushed a lock of her long brown hair over her ear and out of her face while she accessed the PADD. She wore her hair in a long braid down her back, only because she wasn't likely to have to crawl through Jeffries tubes on Daedalus base, otherwise she would have had it in a more work friendly bun. Quickly she read over the PADD, then read it over again. "Sir? I'm getting my own squad?" Emily asked, astonished that she would be in command. "You're a good Engineer, Brasher, your file and recommendations say so, and the SCE have been caught in a pinch. Star Fleet command wants teams on the fringe as well as here around Sol, and the other main member worlds. Means I have to start putting talent in command regardless of rank." Captain Petrovich said. "The Brass wants four of the base's squads attached to Utopia Planitia. They want dedicated squads to help the Mars Defence Perimeter in case anything shows up that falls into our jurisdiction." The captain once again took his seat. Emily was still is a semi state of shock at being given a command, and the honour of being attached to Utopia Planitia. She knew that Starbase assignments meant less new discovery work than a ship based position, but at that point in time, she didn't really care. "Sir, who will I be reporting to, you or Utopia Planitia's CO?" Emily asked. "Treat this like any other Starbase assignment, you answer to Admiral Jopek. When it's quiet, I may have something for you, but for all intents and purposes, Admiral Jopek is your CO. Like always, you will have quarters here at the base, but you should also get some quarters on Starbase Valhalla as well. Valhalla will be your primary assignment, but as your this close to home, don't think we won't put you to use if you aren't busy, there are plenty of projects that can use extra hands from time to time," Captain Petrovich said, with a wolf like grin, but a twinkle in his eye that told Emily he was mostly joking around. "Your the first member of the Squad to make it in, so we'll assign the rest to you as we get them back here, for now, help out the Admiral as you can, they have been rushing the building of Valhalla to take the pressure off Earth. McKinley station wasn't set up to take the stress Utopia Planitia was. Anyway, help out for now, and keep your eye out for anything good that might pop up. The PADD has your transfer orders, report to the XO, man by the name of Tannis Lor, he'll hand you off to the Admiral." Sergey said. Emily nodded, thanked the Captain, then snapped to attention, turned and left. .............................................. (SB Valhalla, CO's outer office - XO/YEO Lieutenant (jg) Tannis Lor - 1027) Tannis walked into the CO's outer office only a couple of minutes prior to the scheduled meeting. Just after he walked in, so did the Starfleet Command Liaison. "Ensign Damo," Tannis said, remembering to use the correct name for the Bajoran. (Reply Damo) "Do you have any idea what these Star fleet matters the Admiral wants to talk to us about, are?" (Reply Damo) Tannis just nodded, and rang the door alarm to let the Admiral know they were there. ..............................................
