Ensign T'Vof asked. "For the foreseeable future the position is yours,"Eva replied, "Exactly how long, we will have to wait and see." "A switch like this will affect morale, ma'am - as I'm sure you are aware.I don't want to mislead anyone with the wrong information." Lo'ren paused for a breath before continuing. "Ma'am, the only thing I am concerned about for my performance is working with the Marine contingent. What, if any, relation do they have with the Security department? I've not been privileged to work with them directly before." "Mr. Trinin was relieved of duty for personal reasons, that's all you need to tell anyone who asks," Eva replied, "Anything more than that is none of their business. Anyone with a pair of eyes can see he is going through a rough time and should respect him enough to respect his privacy in this matter as he gets the professional help he so desperately needs. I don't think the true Baylon Trinin would want the department to suffer on his account. Remind them of this and tell them that the best thing they can do is to make him proud by being the best that they can be. "As for the Marine's, they work closely with the Security department. Colonel Drizzt was my MXO on the Boudicca, so I know him well. Shipboard security is the Security Departments main concern, the Marines will assist Security in anti-boarding operations at the discretion of the Chief of Security and MCO. Any off ship operation requiring an offensive force is the domain of the Marines. I would suggest you meet with Colonel Drizzt at your earliest convenience to appraise yourself of any arrangement he and Lt. Trinin may of had regarding anti-boarding operations. To put it simply, if this ship is ever boarded, the Marines become the hammer while your Security forces become the anvil. You then simply have to smash the enemy between the two. Anything else?" "Nothing further Captain. I asked Ensign T'Sol to complete the Security Dailies for today - I wasn't certain what was happening but Ithought it would be a prudent course. I will inform the Security staff of the change." "Very good," Eva said, "Keep myself or Lt Haynes informed. You're dismissed." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Ready Room - CTAC\SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 0933) Lo'ren nodded curtly, taking her leave without wasting any breath. As sheleft the Dragon's Den she tapped into the comms system, "Ensign T'Vof to Colonel Drizzt." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 0934) "Colonel, I'd like to request a meeting with you. Is there a time today that you can be available?" Lo'ren signaled to the current duty officer at Tactical and to Lt. Adams to continue as they were and made her way to the turbolift. (reply Drizzt) "There's been a change in the Security Department. I'd rather not be discussing it over the comm, if that's alright." Stepping into the oversized tin can she kept her line to Drizzt open by giving her destination via the side panel near the door. (reply Drizzt) "That's fine by me, my office or yours?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades – Marine Staging Center – Lt Col Drizzt - 0935) The Colonel looked at his report with a raging frown, not in the least bit pleased with the status’ he was reading. Not that they actually mattered, he’d have been something less then pleased with whatever he’d read. It was… a symptom of the times, perhaps. He irritably pushed at the phaser in his shoulder-holster, to move it out of his way, before continuing to plow through the readiness report. He occasionally paused to make a note on a PADD, otherwise his eyes never left the monitor. He was almost done with section one when his badge buzzed. =^=Ensign T'Vof to Colonel Drizzt.=^= Drizzt didn’t look up from his monitor, “Drizzt here.” He said slowly, dragging his name out ever so slightly into ‘Drissst’, as he was like to do when he was concentrating. ^=Colonel, I'd like to request a meeting with you. Is there a time today that you can be available?=^= “Regarding?” he asked, curtly. =^=There's been a change in the Security Department. I'd rather not be discussing it over the comm, if that's alright.=^= There were a few extra commands, she’d just entered a turbolift. Drizzt quirked a white eyebrow and leaned back in his chair. “I am available at any time, Ensign.” He finally said. “Come when you like.” =^=That's fine by me, my office or yours?=^= Drizzt leaned forward again. “I’m already in mine, my choice is here.” He replied. ~Blessings of rank.~ he thought. The channel closed, leaving Drizzt alone with his reports again. After a moment, he tapped his badge, “Chief of the Watch, Ensign T’Vof will be showing up in a bit – escort her to me immediately.” =^= Sir.=^= was the only reply given, the only reply needed. The Andorian picked up the PADD he’d been reading and continued again, from the start, wondering how much he’d get through before being bothered again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades – Turbolift – CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 0936) =/\=I’m already in mine, my choice is here.=/\= Lo'ren had hoped for her own, but she'd do what had to be done in any case."Very well. I'll be there shortly. T'Vof out. Computer Deck 9." She closed the channel as the lift altered course to her destination and hailed another officer. "T'Vof to T'Sol." (reply T'Sol) "Please arrange a Security Department meeting for one hour from now, I will elaborate after my meeting with Lt. Col. Drizzt." Lo'ren was not in the mood to talk about replacing Trinin over the comms and she hoped that T'Sol picked that up. The Turbolift spat her out on Deck 9 as the Security officer responded. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – Deck 9 – CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 0937) "Thank you, T'Vof out." She closed that comm link as she arrived outside the Staging area and spoke to the Marine by the door. "I'm Ensign T'Vof, I have a meeting with Lt. Col. Drizzt." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Sickbay, ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker, 0938) Trinin thought about the question for a moment, "I don't know," he said with a shrug "maybe three or four." Haywood raised an eyebrow and leaned slightly backwards on his hips. "Three or four what?" "Weeks." Baylon supplied with a shrug of his shoulders, "if we're not counting the blackouts. About four days if we are." Baylon then paused before adding, . "I'm having terrible pains, in my back and left arm. Where the Waagoshin sliced me up on the station. It's worse when I try to sleep, so I've been having a little something before bed to try to take the edge off. I was working for a while, but not so much now. And the pain is pretty constant these days." It was obvious that that wasn't the thick of it, but Haywood knew better than to argue at this point. After all, he had no doubts that what the security officer said was true. "We'll just have to look into that, then. We need to get you to get some sleep. The reason you didn't come get help earlier is..." Haywood trailed off. "I've been avoiding sickbay... because... Because of Angeni." Baylon admitted, "So the sooner I can leave here the better, eh?" "Eh, not so much," Haywood was watching the readings of the display over the biobed, "The sooner we fix you up, the better. " "Oh Damn!" Baylon cursed under his breath, leading Haywood to believe the security officer was bridling on what had just been said. It wasn't until Baylon caught Haywood's eyes that the ACMO understood the seriousness of the security chief's desperation. "You've got to get me out of here, Haywood. Seriously, I can't stay here." Haywood opened his mouth to talk when Jack passed him his wayward tricorder over his shoulder. He hadn't even realized the Lieutenant had been returning with Angeni in tow up to this point. He turned to look at the CMO and opened his mouth again when she spoke. "If my head wasn't screwed on, I'd forget it in the bathroom..." She shrugged, "I need to go back to my office, I need to get a report out to Commander...I mean Captain Stration." She began to turn away when suddenly she looked at Baylon and her entire demeanor changed. She reached out without a word and snatched the newly obtained tricorder from Haywood's hands and began running the peripheral over the security chief. She was shaking hard, her lips were drawn into a thin line, and when she had completed her reading, she exploded with, "I have a report to write. If you will excuse me..." Haywood's mouth was agape, and, as she stormed away, he finally brought himself to bring his jaws back together. He bit his lower lip and looked from the place she had been standing to Haynes and then to Trinin. "I'm, uh, I'm not sure what just happened... but I seem to be short a tricorder again." He paused, "You can, uh, you can go see Ripley if you need to, but please make sure you come back so we can do something about that pain of yours and get you some real sleep. " --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – Marine Staging Area – CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 0938.5) She followed the fellow into the inner sanctum and to the brain centre ofthe Marines on the Hades. The door opened and she was cordially invited to enter by her escort. Lo'ren walked in, coming to a formal attention stance. "Col. Drizzt, Thank you for seeing me." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Sickbay, CMO's office - ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker - 0943) Haywood held onto the door frame of Angeni's office as he leaned into it. "Ang," he said gently, "What happened back there?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Sickbay, CMO's office - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 0945) Angeni stalked back into her office. If she could've slammed the doors shut, she would have. The tricorder in her hand was sent whizzing across the floor to land with a dull thud against a wall. She sat down in her chair, pinching the bridge of her nose. She couldn't bring herself to look at Baylon; she never realized just how much he looked like Sarge until these last moments. Sarge...someone she hadn't thought about in years during the daytime. Dreams were still permiated with his face and the scene, but as for thinking about him, she kept the memories stored away until she allowed the ghosts of victims past to surge forth and beg for the much needed succor she failed to provide. As she heard the doors to her office open, she turned in her chair so the person could not see her face, but she heard Haywoods' voice call to her. "Ang?" Pregnated pause with no answer. "What happened back there?" Haywood deserved an answer. She didn't like talking about it, but in some cases, like this one, things needed to be talked about. "Have a seat, Haywood..." She gestured to a chair, her voice lifeless. She scooted over to the replicator, replicating herself a mug of hot, mint tea before moving back over to him. "Years ago, before I started doing all of this, I was a Paramedic. I worked closely with the police officers who served in my district. We were all close. They were the 'Men with the Phaser Rifle' and we were 'Quakers with Tongue Depressers'. We relied on them to keep up from getting killed, and they relied on us to keep them from dying when they did something stupid. There was a group of us who did all sorts of high risk stuff, we were even closer." She paused and took a sip from her mug, "We were so close, you never saw one of us without at least seeing one more, if not the whole group. Anything anyone needed was done without hesitation. One mission, things went south...badly. The Commander was killed. None of us could've done anything differently to change that outcome except for us to have scrapped the mission. The Commander sacrificed himself to keep us from all biting the dust as it were. After that, a Seargent, Seargent Delos got really depressed, and he hit the bottle hard." She winced hard, but she kept plugging through. "We all saw it. He looked exactly like Baylon. He hadn't slept in weeks, his only source of nourishment was Vodka, he started doing it on the job as much as he was at home, but none of us said or did anything. We pretened not to notice. We were all taking the death hard. Each one of us showed up to the funeral so hung over we could barely keep it together for the ceremony, but as time wore on, our wounds began to heal while Delos's never did. He blamed himself. He thought he was the absolute cause of the Commanders' death." She bent her head down for a moment, taking a deep breath. "One day, Delos didn't show up for work. Through it all, he never missed a day. We knew something was up when we were getting orders and he wasn't there with us. After roll call, we went to his house. They had me go in first. We somehow knew what we were going to find. Delos killed himself with his service rifle." She leaned back in her chair. "To say that was a wake-up call is an understatement. After that we kept close tabs on each other. Anyone who even started acting like that was sent off to talk to someone, to try and get it out. I saw Baylon, and I saw Delos all over again. I didn't want the same thing to happen to him. I'm no counselor, so I don't know what is going on in his head, and I'm not about to even try to figure it out, but I think I know Baylon well enough that, if everything was okay, he wouldn't have whiskey in his system while on duty, no one who was okay would." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Sickbay, CMO's office - ACMO Haywood Parker- 0947) Haywood took the invitation to sit and listened as Angeni unraveled to story of her former comrade. When she had finished, he characteristically bit his lower lip and leaned backwards in his chair, searching for a way to voice his opinion without sounding like a total jerk. "Wow," he said, "That's terrible." He paused and leaned forward, "But, maybe Baylon needs support rather than... harshness? I mean, the guy was terrified of having to face you, as though he was afraid you'd do... well, what you did." What a time to be terrible with words... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
