We'll have to do this again sometime when we have more time, but it looks like Jonas is going to sweep you away before we have a chance to really get goin'." S'Tarleya looked up at the human engineer and found herself smiling. "I would very much enjoy that Lieutenant Harper." she replied. "I say we should have a recipe swap sometime, no? Ten forward is always open." he replied. S'Tarleya's smile broadened. "I do not see why that would not be permissible. Although I would require permission for such a correspondence before it could be undertaken." She replied, her smile turning into a neutral expression when she realized the futility of even making such a request. With that dour thought in her head, she rose to her feet a little abruptly. "Lieutenant Harper thank you for being so accommodating. Perhaps we will be able to speak again some day soon." Perhaps we will be able to speak again some day soon." S'Tarleya said, taking her feet. "I hope so," Norm replied, pushing his seat backward with his calves as he rose to offer her his hand in one final attempt for a handshake. If she didn't take it this time, he would know not to make the gesture again. (reply S'Tarleya iyw) (posted by Justine) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward - Uhlan S'Tarleya - 1146) "I hope so," Norm replied, pushing his seat backward with his calves as he rose to offer her his hand. There was a moment of awkwardness, because S'Tarleya had no idea what she should do. Normally Romulans did not touch each other in personal greetings or departures. It just simply wasn't done. Yet, here was a human man, whom had been very accommodating. The problem was she just simply had no idea what she should do. She realized that he was offering out his right hand and so, with a little trepidation, positioned her own right hand into the same shape, fingers together and thumb extended and stuck out her hand. As she had hoped, Harper completed the gesture with a firm grip and an up and down pumping motion which wasn't entirely unpleasant. She felt that she learned a little something about the man standing before her from that brief physical contact. He was confident and strong and that somehow soothed her feeling of trepidation and made her smile. When he released her hand it was almost unpleasant. Simply because she had come to realize that she had enjoyed the contact between them. It was a guilty little indulgence but she somehow felt that she would always remember the day that she shook hands with a human. The commander cleared his throat and S'Tarleya immediately turned away from the Lieutenant and joined the rest of her compatriots for the tour. Angeni's face turned a very bright shade of red, and she looked more like a bashful child than a senior physician. "Frankly, I'm treating him as I would any other patient. I like to make as little fuss over rank in here as possible. I don't feel that someones' rank determines treatment protocols. I want everyone to feel like they are going to get the same care, treatment, and attention as an Admiral would...save security protocols. I just hope I'm doing everything possible to help him..." "I'm sure his condition will improve soon enough. Perhaps you and the Counsellor can look into some other ways to revive him that might not be such a risk to his physical condition. It would be a great boost to morale if he were awake." Angeni winced a bit. She rubbed her hands together, her voice a slight higher in octave. "I am trying my best. I've done every little thing I can possibly do. It's up to him now..." She looked at Jonas, feeling like she had just failed some random quiz she didn't know was coming. In her mind, she started ticking off every little thing that she could possibly do when she heard him speaking again. "Well, I'll let you get back to work Doctor." With a quick turn on his heel he added, "Oh, and if you see Wendy, tell her I said Hi" He smiled cheekily before heading into the corridor. "I will." She smiled at him, but her normal luster wasn't behind it. As the doors slid shut, she flopped down into the chair next to the biobed and put her head in her hands. The recorded experiences between our empires have not been friendly, often with poor outcomes for any of the attributes you long for so ardently. Is your wishful thinking so logical? You do not seem at all complacent when you speak of this. Your words belie your appearance, Ensign T'Sol. They sound very emotional." Centurion Mavus chimed in, clearly in an attempt to disprove T'Sol's words. The Vulcan officer turned towards the Romulan Centurion. "I do not believe that I said anything about my WISHES Centurion. I believe I was quite clear that this location represented certain emotional characteristics that I associate with the Rihannsu people. Additionally I would point out that I am speaking with an emotional people, who have not chosen to embrace the repression of their emotions as Vulcans have. I therefore thought it prudent to use emotional descriptors in my language to better convey my concepts to you and your companions." "I am well aware that Vulcan stoicism is known to cause discomfort among many species including the Rihannsu. It is merely my attempt to make you FEEL more at ease in the hopes that this interaction will assist in building a solid interactive relationship where both our species may benefit." "Also, I have often found myself fascinated by the Rihannsu culture and have often wondered what I might have been like, had my ancestors chosen to leave Vulcan rather than embrace the teachings of Sarek. I believe that the Vulcans and the Rihannsu are not so different as we believe ourselves to be. We are merely on different paths, not of our own choosing. The choice of my Vulcan heritage was made for me by my ancestors, just as yours was made by yours. There is no logic to denying those facts, especially if it results in the establishment of better relations between our people, And if a relaxation of my normal emotional discipline eases such an interaction between Vulcans and Rihannsu then it is most assuredly not illogical to do so." She replied. (Reply Mavus, Any) (USS Hades – Deck 5, Corridor – Security Officer T'Sol– 1422) When The Commander Lemar had accepted the invitation, T'Sol felt as if she had achieved a great deal. It was apparent that she had made some sort of favorable impression upon Rhian, otherwise logic dictated that he would not have extended a counter invitation to the crew of the Hades so readily. There was a little more discussion and them Lemar led the way towards the Transporter room. T'Sol decided to give a gesture of good faith and dismissed the security detail. She had no logical reason to suspect that these individuals would cause them any security troubles. (USS Hades – Transporter Room 1– Security Officer T'Sol– 1426) The team arrived in the transporter room and T'Sol took the opportunity to say goodbye to the Romulans in the traditional Vulcan method. "I was given to understand that this was an underlying principle of Vulcan philosophy. Is this true or have I been given faulty information?" "No Centurion your assessment is quite correct, however certainly you are aware that not all Vulcan embrace the Kholinar? The Kholinar is only one method and to be certain the most readily accepted method of achieving logical means to self discovery as well as the discovery of those others in the quadrant. If a Vulcan people are to understand their neighbors, then logically they must understand the emotions that their neighbors possess. It is Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination. The goal of Vulcan is to guide those around them to greater understanding of themselves and each other through the application of logic." "Couldn't these goals of which you speak, if founded on such emotionality, be erroneous due to their basic foundation?" asked Mavus. "I had thought that such passion was as quicksand to Vulcans, plunging sentient beings into unthinking and careless existence; hence the discipline of control and the suppression of emotion to guide the Vulcan culture. But, to use a phrase of the Terrans, did the adoption of this type of philosophy throw out the good with the bad?" "I could just as easily ask you if you believed that an emotional culture could be at fault in the assessment of logic, personal and scientific discovery, then perhaps you could apply those same paradigms upon the Rihannsu culture as well. Logic alone is not flawless, just as emotions alone can not govern every action that we undertake. It is my belief that these two must achieve a balance." "I have often thought that the suppression of all emotions was an extreme reaction to a bad situation. I do adhere to the strictures of the Kholinar for the most part, but occasionally, I have overall found it easier to maintain emotional discipline when I actually allow that discipline to slip occasionally. I only allow this in situations where it is beneficial, such as now, where it is a measured attempt to make you more comfortable in my presence and to stimulate philosophical and cultural discussions, such as we are having here. There can be no peace between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire if we never get to know one another, until that happens there can be no friendship, only tolerance. And it is my experience that for peace to succeed, friendship is required." (reply Mavus) (USS Hades – Transporter room 1 – Security Officer T'Sol– 1435) As soon as the Romulans had transported off the ship, T'Sol had immediately replaced her slightly emotional continence with that of her usual dour self, re-establishing her emotional discipline with an iron fist. She turned to Commander Lemar to determine if he had any further orders for her this afternoon. “Well done Ensign. You’ve done us all a great deed.” With her usual demeanor T'Sol replied in typical Vulcan fashion, "I have done nothing more than my duty required Commander. For you to praise me for doing so is illogical." “Well, it can’t have been easy, and I am very grateful.” Jonas headed out into the corridor with T’Sol at his side, “I’m looking forward to our tour tomorrow. Would you like to attend?” "I would admit to a certain degree of academic curiosity, Commander. I am certain that I can glean personal experience that will be of use to me in the future if I were permitted to attend. "Would you like me to plan a security detail for the visit?" she then asked. His blue ocean kayak flowed fluidly with the pull of the open water. The original intent had been to go coasting along the canals, but his too-long underused muscles had convinced him that he would head away from the confines of the docks, and would turn around to face the open sea. With no particular destination in mind, Norm had begun North, but allowed himself to be turned by the current. Had he not been within the safety of the Hades' holodeck, he never would have been so relaxed about his rowing, but at this point, it didn't make much different. As he pused his paddle up the bow of the kayak, the plastic scaffolding made a terrible groaning sound. But, with his thighs and forearms burning, he figured it was almost time to give up. He sighed and carefully stood in the unsteady boat. It was a move he had made thousands of time before, but, nonetheless, it was still a shaky experience. He let out a deep sigh and dived over the side into the calm waves of the Pacific. Cold water surrounded his body and he let out a small yelp of shock. "Computer, end program," he said around shivers. As the holodeck gave way to the yellow and black grid, Norm felt suddenly hot. He got to his feet and walked toward his shirt. Clad in a pair of board shorts and a simple tee-shirt, Norm exited the holodeck and began down the hall. "The Romulans are too protectively paranoid and reflexively xenophobic for us to hope for a positive outcome. Our results would be the same if we politely asked the wind to not blow on Earth." Straightening up hir branches in a more optimistic way Shayhiloosh said, "We must find another way." "We could try to work out the pattern for ourselves, but it would take a while and there's nothing that says the pattern is uniform and that the algorithms aren't being changed as well," the Science officer pointed out. "How can we filter out the distortion?" asked Shayhiloosh, mulling over the problem. "I am not an engineer; my specialty areas center more heavily toward the biological sciences, but suppose we could we run the signals through some sort of multiphase flux equalizer that would pull out the distortion? Though it might leave the readings less accurate, surely the process would neutralize the distortion." Harry cocked his head to the right for a second as he did some calculations in his head. "Maybe…." he responded slowly as he completed the calculations. "Maybe it might work for the implant telemetry, since they are low order fields." he continued, "and with some additional signal scrubbing we might be able to get the commbadges to work as well. But I wouldn't risk the transporters." He shook his head. "No way at all. The modulation varies enough that if it were to change during a transport, which is likely judging from these readings, the transportee would either be lost completely, or rematerialize with inside out or some such horror." (reply Shayhiloosh) "Well we can start the calibrations from here, at least for the flux equalizer. I'll have to work out some of the math to identify the modulation frequencies so that the computer can compensate for the implants, then I'll have to work out the field variance for the commbadges to make sure we can data scrub them and get them working. Mavus thought she knew what he might have found, but kept her thoughts to herself. She decided to see if Commander Rhian would discuss it with her later once they had left the Hades. She was surprised when Cmdr Rhian proposed that some of the crew of the Federation ship visit the Donatra. She knew that Lhaes and S'Tarleya might not be pleased to have such guests on board, much as some of the Federation crew had reacted to their presence on the Hades. Wonder of wonders, the Hades Commander agreed to allow his officers to be exposed to the often suspicious Romulan crew. She kept a pleased expression on her face, not allowing her surprise or wariness to show. Could this be a chance for the Hades crew to gather intelligence and try to sabotage the Donatra? When they arrived in the Transporter Room, Jonas stood beside the transporter controls with Ensign T'Sol and allowed the delegation to file through to the transporter pads. Mavus's heart stuttered in a small amount of trepidation, but she quelled it in an effort to show no weakness. Once they were in position on the raised dais, Cmdr Lemar said a final comment of farewell. "Until tomorrow then." He smiled and bowed his head somewhat, Mavus guessed, as a gesture of either respect or humility. That said, he was surprised when T’Sol responded with, “Would you like me to plan a security detail for the visit?” Jonas frowned, still walking down the corridor. “No I don’t think that would be necessary Ensign. From the disguised bar-tender, to the technician fixing the panels near to the doorway, they had managed to keep a close eye on the Romulans at almost all times. It was only while T’Sol had entered the turbolift and headed to a different area of the ship that they had left the sight of his team at all. Tarus was pleased with his teams achievements, and he wasn’t at all surprised when the comm. system sounded and T’Sol attempted to hail him. “Go ahead Ensign.” He replied, approaching one of his team who had now changed back into his security uniform. =^= You can have your people stand down from alert where the Romulan officers are concerned, Lieutenant. They have returned to the Donatra. It appears that we will be visiting their vessel tomorrow. So there will only be the negotiations for you to attend to at that time =^= Tarus had already been informed that the Romulan’s had left. He had a man positioned in a jefferies tube near to the transporter room entrance who had relayed the information as soon as they had entered. But this news about a visit to the Romulan’s ship was news to him. He really wasn’t sure how he really felt about that, but then, it wasn’t really his concern. “Very well. He really wasn’t certain on the progress down on the surface. He had assumed that someone else had been handling that, while he had been busy covering the bases on the ship. “To my knowledge, there has been no change.” =^= Understood, please let me know of any significant chages at once =^= Tarus smiled, always finding the vulcan attitude quite amusing. He would have thought, spending so much time amongst humans, that she were more accustomed to dealing with the better. As it was, she often ordered him about like a superior. Henri sat in the chair next to his biobed, speaking rapidly in something he called "Franglish." He tended to do so when he was thinking faster than he could talk, and though Kusto had trouble understanding it, it made him smile. It was nice just having a friend around. "Je l'ai dit, 'I hate les échecs. Je désiré a real game like football ou tennis.' Les sports, oui?" Kusto nodded, though he had no idea what "échecs" was. T.J. was glad to be out of the Conference Room and heading back home. He knew he'd never want to be a diplomat but he was meant to be on a starhip. Baylon alerted the the HADES and set up the transport back home. Soon Tom felt the now familiar sensation of being transported. His vision dissolved into pure energy and they almost as quickly, the HADES transport room appeared. (USS HADES - Transporter Room 1 - A/COPS - Lt. The lead security man replied in the affirmative then the team broke up as the diplomats went their separate ways, a security man in tow. The first person to step down from the pad was Baylon Trinin, and no sooner had he done so did three more security officers enter from the corridor. After a brief exchange with the transporter operator, the security chief issued his men with some orders. “...please see to it that the Envoys and the Ambassador have an escort wherever they would like to go,” he said to them, and they nodded their acceptance of the orders. Before they went their separate ways, Bree turned to face her small group of delegates. “Have a good night everyone. We’ve accomplished a lot today, so it’d be good to get some rest before things start again tomorrow.” She glanced over at Tom Jackson, who appeared to be a little apprehensive about the whole ordeal. As soon as she had finished speaking he had headed out into the corridor away from the group. ~He’s in a hurry~ she thought for a moment, then turned her attention to Jon Nayati, who was still at her side, but then before she had chance to say a word, he too had an exit to the corridor. With a slight shrug, Bree brushed her red curls aside and made her way out into the corridor. She could hear both Jon and Tom talking over the comm. system, but making an effort not to eavesdrop she walked straight past them both and started down the corridor toward where she remembered a turbolift entrance to be. “I just want to go to my quarters, if that’s okay with you.” She spoke over her shoulder to the security escort in tow. “Yes ma’am, wherever you’d like to go.” He smiled at her and asked, “Have you had a busy day?” Small talk was always a favourite pastime for Bree, so when the security officer spoke she responded in a leisurely tone. “Oh you know, I’ve been sitting all day in that conference chamber. It’s surprising how tiring that can be.” She made light of it, but truly she was more ravaged by the mental restraints placed on her by the Romulan protective technology, than the talks themselves. ~I should really speak with the Doctors about it before returning tomorrow~. While he spoke, he was busy reaching for a number of empty PADDS to return them to the replicator for recycling. Jonas was laughing too, finding that he sometimes missed the times he used to spend with the other officers and crew. Often the title of Commander brought with it a whole new set of society rules, and especially since the Captain has been out of action, he had found he had spent little to no time at all socialising with his friends and colleagues. “Well, you could always have blamed the food...” Jonas leaned forward at his desk, trying to see around the corner out into the administration area. “...although perhaps not the best idea if Denise was around.” The two laughed again. Just as Jonas was about to comment further, there was an interruption from the comm. system. =^= Commander Lemar, Lt Jackson here - may I meet with you. I'd like to update you on a few things =^= Jonas looked at his chronometer. ~I hadn’t realised the time~ he thought, knowing that the whole delegation had probably just returned. ~I’ll probably have other reports to look at too~ Looking over at Miller, Jonas looked for guidance; after all, he would know as well as he what he had planned for the rest of the day. Miller shook his head and offered a winced expression. Clearly he didn’t think it was a good idea, and when he flashed a dataPADD at Jonas he saw that there were already a few things planned for this evening. Not least was an evening meal with Wendy Kildare, who he felt like he hadn’t seen for many days. ~I really don’t want to miss that~ he thought, a smile creeping to his lips as he pictured Wendy. “Welcome back Lieutenant. I’m a little busy right now, but put it into a report and have it sent to my desk.” (reply: Jackson) “We’ll talk soon Lieutenant, I promise.” Jonas tapped his comm. badge to close the channel. “Wendy will have my guts for garters if I cancel on her again,” he grinned, but then part of him wondered what it was that Jackson wanted to report. ~He’s enthusiastic~ he considered, thinking back to Jackson’s normal reports. They were often quite emotional, and not always based around facts. “No, I can wait and speak to Jackson tomorrow.” Miller gave a nod of agreement, “I can always skim through his report when it arrives and alert you if there is anything urgent inside.” Just then, =^= Trinin to Commander Lemar =^= Miller turned around, and Jonas rolled his eyes. “I bet I’m going to get a few more of these before the night is through.” With a tap of his comm. badge he said, “Welcome back Lieutenant. (USS HADES Deck 2 Personal Quarters - A/COPS -Lt Tom Jackson - 1856) Tom entered his quarters and sighed. He had not really realized how tired he truly was. Walking to his replicator and ordered some coffee, black and strong. As Jackson watched his brew being made, his thoughts drifted to the last the events of the few days. The possibilities were truly great but then so were the potential pitfalls. Tom sat at his terminal and composed his report. In the report Tom reviewed the negotiations and the progress made in the trade area. He paused the recording and thought for a moment before continuing. "it is my opinion, that for the most part, the motives of the Praetor are honest. The Tal Shair chairman does not seem pleased with the project nor do some of the senators" Tom added. He went on to explain the outburst that had occurred. "I also think we should keep our guard up but hope for the best" Jackson concluded saving the report and firing it off to Le Lemar desk. But first he wanted to talk to Lt. Baylon Trinin about what had happened with their telepathy and with the negotiations themselves. ~He was security and he kind of missed the whole negotiation process.~ Jon went to his office to pick up a PADD to key in some thoughts while they were still fresh in his mind. Once there, Jon's fingers flew over the PADD in his efforts to record all that had happened. After a few minutes he was done. As he finished his entries, he addressed the computer. "Computer, give the current location of Lt. Baylon Trinin." [Lt. Trinin is in the Chief Security Office.] Jon got up and used his office replicator to get a quick energy bar and a bottle of sparkling water. After he ate and drank, he pressed his commbadge. "Nayati to Lt. Trinin." (Reply Baylon Trinin) "It occurred to me that we should compare notes. Give me a time when we can do that this evening or if we should do this now. I want to talk to you about our sudden lack of telepathy during the treaty talks." (Reply Baylon Trinin, Any) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - CSEC - Lt. Baylon Trinin- 1859) Baylon was sitting sorting through the mountains of raw data that he had managed to collect while on Romulus. Most of it was of little interest to the security Chief. It consisted of localized atmospheric conditions; Romulan Physiological data; scans of the foodstuffs that the security team consumed as well as vocal patterns from those members of the continuing committee that had spoken while Baylon had been present. The thing that was interesting was the scans of the chamber shortly after Baylon realized that he was unable to hear the occassional stray thought running in the meeting room. There was an interesting energy spike that had always been present in the back ground, but had increased dramatically just before Baylon had been asked to leave. This energy field was very specific and very complex looking. As Baylon watched the readings he recognized a sub carrier wave that he immediately recognized. It was a wave designed to suppress telepathic abilities. Betazed counselors used it to suppress the abilities of mentally ill patients, Usually however there was a small localized device that was worn. In this case it seemed that the Romulans had a much larger generator that could cover a much larger area. The rest of the energy that was being emitted seemed to be a distortion field designed to interfere with tracking devices and other communications devices. At the level it was producing, it may even interfere with transporters. The Distorition field wasn't as worrisome to Baylon. The field however could cause a neurological collapse in telepaths if it was too powerful. There had been cases on Betazed of such an occurance, and in those rare cases the devices were used by trained operators with years of experience. Somehow, trinin doubted that the Romulans had that much experience in their operation. It explained Baylon's headache when it was in use, and he wondered if the Tal'Shiar had insisted on it's use and if they had told the Praetor of the possibility that it could kill the ambassador and a few other members of the federation delegation if they simply ramped up the power. He couldn't see any better way to cause an international incident and sabotage the talks than that. The chime on his door sounded and Baylon looked up as the door slid open to admit Commander Lemar. "Commander, I think we have a serious problem." he said as he turned the monitor so that lemar could see it. (reply Lemar) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – Deck 10, Temporary CSEC’s Office – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1902) It hadn’t taken him long to get to the temporary offices assigned to the security team. The chief of security had sounded quite urgent when he had requested to speak with him, so he had done his best to rush down to meet with the man as quickly as possible. Of course, he had not counted on the full turbolift that needed to stop at four decks on the way. He just never felt easy using the ‘Captain’s prerogative’ card in front of the rest of the crew. To make everyone else wait while he got to where he wanted to go wasn’t very ‘good cop’ of him, and as most people onboard already knew, he liked to play the good cop and keep good relationships with all of the crew wherever possible. As he entered the office, he could see that the Chief was already looking, with some concern, over something on his computer screen. “Commander, I think we have a serious problem,” he stated, turning the computer screen around so that Jonas could see it clearly. Approaching and sitting down, he looked at the data on the screen. It seemed to be an analysis of some kind of energy readings, with a cross section of brain-wave pattern. With his background in medical, it was not hard to recognise the neurological patterns of a typical Betazoid, not to mention the types of effects the energy field on screen would have on said patterns. With a frown of concern he joined the chief. “Tell me this isn’t the energy field on the planet.” (reply: Trinin) Clearly not pleased that such measures were being used on the surface, his first thought was to call on the Ambassador. But he stopped himself. He needed more information before that, “In this concentration, how harmful is this field?” (reply: Trinin) “Have you shown this data to Doctor Trommashere yet? Is there anything we can do to minimise the effects?” Jonas was clearly concerned now. Whether it was intentional or not, the Romulans could be severely harming the telepathically gifted amongst them. That was not something he was willing to continue. (reply: Trinin, any) (posted by Dave) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - CSEC - Lt. Baylon Trinin- 1904) As Lemar entered the office, Baylon looked up at the commander and said, "Commander, I think we have a serious problem." He turned the display monitor so that Lemar could see it. The First Officer crossed the room and took a seat so that he could see the display better. It was a very distinct pattern that Baylon knew that Lemar would recognize. Every doctor in the UFP studied Betazed neural physiology, and even Security Officers studies them a little so that they would know what to expect if they encountered a Betazoid criminal. After a couple of moments The Chief Medical Officer, now First Officer frowned and said, “Tell me this isn’t the energy field on the planet.” "More accurately, it's one of two energy fields surrounding the immediate area where the negotiations are taking place." Baylon replied honestly, "The other is a subspace distortion field which I can't tell you much about, but it seems that sciences are already working on that one." There was a battle of some sort going on in Lemar's mind. Baylon could tell that the commander, guarded as he was, normally was both unpleased and undecided about what might be done. Even if he hadn't been empathic, he could have seen it in his eyes. “In this concentration, how harmful is this field?” "In this concentration, it is only harmful in long periods of exposure. For my part, while I was present it caused headaches and a slight lack of concentration, in addition to the inability to use my gifts. I've not spoken with any of the other members of the away team yet, to see if they were experiencing any similar side-effects. In greater concentrations, this field can induce coma or even possibly death. I would like to point out that on Betazed this same field, although localized is used to control dangerous criminals who have exceptionally strong gifts. It has been used in corrections situations as well as by psychologists when dealing with the dangerously mentally ill." “Have you shown this data to Doctor Trommashere yet? Is there anything we can do to minimize the effects?” he asked. "I have not, Commander as I wanted to speak to you about it first. As to minimizing it's effects, not that I know of. It directly interacts with the brainwaves of someone with telepathic or empathic abilities. It causes a sort of static that eventually causes the cellular walls to break down. It's sort of like having radiation selectively fired into the appropriate lobe of your brain. But I'm no doctor. I've just never heard of any drug or treatment that can lessen it's effects or prevent it from doing what it does." Baylon replied. "Of course if we could shut down the source that would be the best route." He took a deep breath and let it out. "I have had another thought on this, Commander." (reply Lemar) "We know that the Tal'Shair are opposed to these talks. I see two very good opportunities for them to ruin everything. Either they drag out the negotiations until the current setting does it's work or they slowly increase the output until someone, possibly Frazier or Nayati either fall into a coma or die from it. Either of these events will effectively sabotage the talks, and I don't think that it is above the actions of the Tal'Shair if they feel strongly enough to undertake this course of action. Personally I didn't want to bring this to anyone's attention for fear of jeopardizing the talks on our end. There is always a sneaky possibility that the Tal'Shair wants us to discover it and make it an issue and break off talks for the safety-sake of the delegates." (Reply Lemar) Suddenly Baylon's commbadge chirped. =^=Nayati to Lt. Trinin =^= Baylon looked up at Lemar as if to say 'I-told-you-so'. "Go ahead counselor." the security chief replied. =^=It occurred to me that we should compare notes. Give me a time when we can do that this evening or if we should do this now. I want to talk to you about our sudden lack of telepathy during the treaty talks.=^= "I agree counselor. I am currently in an important meeting, let me contact you as soon as that's over and we can discuss the events of the day then." Baylon replied, still looking at Lemar. (reply Nayati) "Very well counselor, I'll try not to be too long, Trinin out." Once the Commchannel was closed he looked back at the First officer. "I suppose my next question is how would you like to proceed in light of this data? And how much do you want me to disclose to Nayati." (reply Lemar) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – Deck 1, Ready Room – Commander Lemar & Ambassador Frazier – 2037) By now, he was well and truly late for his dinner date with Wendy. It seemed like things were set against giving the two lovers time to each other, and so Jonas had surrendered to his work and carried on with his duties. As the chime to the ready room echoed out, Jonas stood up and moved to the door. As he opened the door, he saw the ever-so-glamorous Ambassador Frazier standing there. “I’m glad you took the time to see me, Commander” she said as she entered, brushing past the commander and moving toward the ready room desk and chairs. “Don’t mention it. I’m keen to hear how things went today.” Jonas moved into the room with the Ambassador, then sat at his seat behind the desk and quickly tidied the things off it’s surface and into an open drawer. As she took a seat she dusted off her skirt. “Well, things were a little slow, but we’re making some definite progress. You know, the Praetor is very amenable. “Amenable?” said Jonas with surprise. That was not a word he really expected to be used to describe the leader of the Romulan empire. “Things must have gone well the, but don’t worry. I won’t ask for a full rundown of what you discussed.” “Well, that’s good since I’m not really at liberty to discuss the details.” Bree smiled, hoping that the commander wouldn’t take that the wrong way. “Hey,” started Jonas, holding a hand up in mock-protest. “I have enough on my plate without knowing all the political mumbo-jumbo you’ve been up to.” Jonas then grinned, to show there were definitely no hard feelings. Bree tossed her curls with a shake of her head as she laughed. “Well, there are a few things I’m eager to tell you about. The Praetor put some interesting offers to me, which I accepted on your behalf...” She looked him in the eyes, “...I hope you don’t mind.” She smiled, knowing that the Commander was no doubt very curious to know what she had had him agree to. “We’ve been granted access to the planet’s surface, for our science teams to take a good hard look. I’m sure Lieutenant Carrow will enjoy that.” Jonas was surprised to hear that the Romulan’s had been so forthcoming with the invitations. First the Romulan Commander and his ship visit, and now the Praetor with his invites to the surface. “Well, I’d say that might go some way toward mending the relationship between you two.” Jonas was all too aware of the goings on between the two women. He had chosen to leave them to it, rather than confront either of them directly. Bree blushed a little, but quickly shook it off with a smile and answered, “Yes, well, we definitely got off on the wrong foot. Let’s call it a bad hair day.” She grinned, knowing that the man probably hadn’t had a bad hair day in his life. It was so much easier for men! “Well, I’ll be sure to let her know. I’m sure half the science department is keen to get down there and run some tests.” Jonas deliberately skimmed past the topic of relationships between Frazier and Carrow, trying to keep things on a professional level. “Anything else of interest that you put my name down for?” Jonas grinned cheekily. Frazier leaned forward a little, “Well actually there was one thing.” Her tone took on a more serious note as she leaned on the desk and revealed her final piece of information. “I told the Praetor about what happened to Captain Sash, or at least as much as I know. I didn’t think it could do any harm!” She shrugged, knowing that whether the Commander was mad at her or not, what was done was done. “He offered to have a top Medical specialist come to the Hades to see if he could improve the Captain’s condition in any way.” That bit of information definitely piqued Jonas’s interest. ~Sash back on his feet would most certainly be an advantage~ With a sceptical look in his eye he asked, “Are you telling me that the Romulan’s have a specialist in Angossian physiology in their ranks?” “Actually...yes.” Bree smiled. “Believe me, I was as surprised as you, but apparently he will be willing to come aboard first thing tomorrow to see if he can assist Doctor Trommashere in any way.” ~Assisting Angeni~ thought Jonas, knowing full well that it wasn’t that Angeni would be resistant to help on this case, but rather she might be resistant to help from the Romulans. “I think it’s worth a shot. We’ve got nothing to lose.” As Frazier nodded in agreement with him, Jonas added “I’ll speak with the CMO and make the arrangements.” Jonas got up and walked over to the replicator, “Would you like something to drink?” “Oh, yes please. Andorian Brandy.” She said, turning in her chair to watch the commander move. Commander Lemar laughed, but continued to the replicator, “I’m off duty now, I need to unwind” She defended her choice of beverage, even though there was no need. As Jonas returned with drinks, the two continued to chat about the days events. You not quite bad as they make out.” Brianna Frazier teased as she made he way out into the corridor. “Yes, thank you for that Ambassador.” Jonas offered a forced smile as she made her way out of his sight. The door closed before him and he turned and made his way back to the desk. “Blimey, she can talk when she gets going,” he said quietly to himself and he opened up the drawer and took out the items he had tidied away there. Placing a PADD on his desk he decided to take the opportunity to let the science team know what he had in store for them. “Commander Lemar to Lieutenant Carrow.” =^= Good evening Commander. To what do I owe this pleasure? =^= Jonas was pleased to hear that he hadn’t interrupted her, or at least if he had, she didn’t seem too bothered about it. “We’ve been given the go ahead for your boys and girls to go down to the surface tomorrow. I’m sure they’re itching to get their fingers and thumbs into Romulan soil.” ~...and roots...~ thought Jonas, wondering if Shayhiloosh would wish to go down to the surface too. =^= Well that’s just great. I have to say, I didn’t really think we’d get access. I’ll make the arrangements. =^= (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2121) Finished his conversation with the chief of science, he was not surprised to hear it had been received so well. The next thing on his list might take a little bit of convincing, so he had decided to go to see do it in person. Stepping into Sickbay, it didn’t take him long to locate the chief medical officer. It seemed that she was never far from the Captain these days, at he was partly grateful for that. Clearing his throat, he announced his presence. Smiling at her he said, “I’ve invited a Romulan specialist over for the morning.” (reply: Trommashere) “Apparently, they have an specialist in Angossian physiology. The Praetor seems to think she can help with the Captain’s recovery.” Jonas was unsure about how to gauge Angeni’s reaction. So instead, he waited to see what she might say.
