In fact, he was surprised that they hadn't woken up the Praetor or dragged him from what ever engagement he was involved in the moment that they had heard from him. As the night wore on he realized that the Praetor also knew that they were still days away from Romulus and there would be plenty of time to discuss the situation at hand. Of course, the Praetor's aid was equally vexed that Rhian would share no information with him. This report was for Vrih's ears only. So when the message came in that the Praetor was returning his call Rhian felt a bit better. After all this had been important information. Praetor Vrih remained impassive as the report was given. And once Rhian was done Vrih mused for a time before replying. =^=And you have no idea what has caused this event?=^= "No Praetor," Rhian replied. "I can only tell you that our sensor reading show that there has been an internal explosion of some kind on the Federation vessel, and that was, most likely, the cause of the delay. But as I said, they were less than forth coming about situation." =^=Would you be any less so, if the situation were reversed?=^= Rhian nodded at the logic. "No, I believe I would not. I will keep you apprised of any further incidents." =^=Do so Commander. And I will investigate things here a bit further.=^= The Preator turned his head slightly. =^=I want Terrh in here now.=^= He turned back to the view screen. =^=Good work Commander. I will expect there to be no more delays with one of our newest and best ships on guard.=^= Rhian nodded, "It shall be as you say my Praetor." The screen went blank and Rhian looked at it for a moment. The implied threat was clear. If anything further happened to this Federation ship he would be held directly responsible. It was clear that he needed to have further words with this Commander Lemar, and he would... very soon. (posted by Al Muir) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Capitol District, Senate Building, Sigma Courtyard – Senator Terrh – 0754) The day of Romulan Senator started out the same as many other Romulans. It began with an early waking just after the sun had risen; tardiness and laziness were frowned upon, as too was sleeping in late during the mornings. After stepping out onto his balcony to admire the brightening of the blue skies and the remainder of the sun-rise, he had taken a few moments to be thankful to the forefathers for their sacrifices, and enjoyed a simple breakfast of bread and meat – gluttony was as much a faux par as sleeping in late. Living alone, he had not needed to bid farewell to any family members, so had left while the streets were still quiet, for his office at the Senate Building in the Capitol District. There was much to do that day that ordinarily would not be on his agenda. On top of his usual senatorial duties, he had many preparations to make before the arrival of the Federation ship, and it was as he was thinking of those very preparations that a Centurion had approached him swiftly in the courtyard while he was on his way to his Private Office. As the Centurion opened his mouth to speak, Terrh came to a stop with an unaccustomed frown and asked, “Not now, I have much to do.” As Terrh began moving again, he walked past the Centurion, who simply turned to follow the Senator. “My apologies, Senator, but Praetor has summoned you to his chambers.” Terrh stopped again, this time knowing that his morning plans were truly ruined. ~At this hour? What does that fool want now?~ he thought to himself as he turned back to face the insistent Centurion. With as much of a genuine smile as he could muster, which was quite genuine considering the practise he had been given throughout his career so far, he looked at the Centurion and replied, “Then why didn’t you say so.” The Centurion didn’t answer, and merely stood solidly and did not move. Flicking the length of his tunic around to his right, Terrh made a swift change of direction away from his own offices, and toward that of the Praetor. Being the office of most importance, it was quite close to the front of the building, and of course had the grandest of entrances. Terrh was standing outside the door in no time at all. As he looked around at the Centurion, he quickly untied his tunic and took off the outer garment, revealing his standard Senator’s garb that he wore each day. Handing the tunic to the Centurion, he waved at the doors, as if to hurry the Senator up with his task. “You may announce me when ready.” He said, looking straight ahead and waiting for the doors to open. "I do not believe we have met, Lt. Carrow, what with all the recent excitement." Ardena was glad to have a second with as good a sense of humour as Shayhiloosh. The Arborian seemed to take pretty much everything in stride and greeted every change or surprise as an opportunity. "Ah, well, Ensign Shayhiloosh, this is Ensign McKenzie, your new partner in trying to keep your chief out of trouble." She turned to Kenneth, "And, of course, Ensign McKenzie, this is Ensign Shayhiloosh, your fellow assistant chief." (Reply McKenzie, Shayhiloosh) The two made aquaintence before Ardena carried on to make sure everyone was okay with their assignments. Shayhiloosh was the first to answer, "Yes, in between working CSI with security to help determine the exact cause of the explosion. So far what I have found and reported to Baylon Trinin is what you have heard at this meeting. The Hydroponic Bay jungle and the Arboretum were relatively untouched by the explosion on Deck 5, but there are always maintenance duties to perform. We are still cataloging the plant life in the jungle." Ardena smiled ruefully, "I have a bit overloaded you, haven't I? If you need help, please bellow." She turned to Kenneth. "And, of course, Ensign McKenzie, this is Ensign Shayhiloosh, your fellow assistant chief." Shayhiloosh was happy to meet such an extraordinarily and, s/he thought, appropriately colored colleague. "Clear waters and warm breezes to you, Ensign McKenzie." Shayhiloosh assigned a single eyestalk to Ensign McKenzie and pointing it in the other assistant's direction, s/he nodded courteously. "I am happy to have another officer in our department. We have much to do with this mission to Romulan space. I am most curious to see their plant life, though I do not know if I will have the chance to do so." Cocking hir eyestalk at the new Science officer, Shayhiloosh asked, "In what part of the Science department will you work, Ensign McKenzie?" (Reply Kenneth McKenzie) In answer to Lt. Carrow's question, Shayhiloosh said, "Yes, in between working CSI with security to help determine the exact cause of the explosion. So far what I have found and reported to Baylon Trinin is what you have heard at this meeting. The Hydroponic Bay jungle and the Arboretum were relatively untouched by the explosion on Deck 5, but there are always maintenance duties to perform. We are still cataloging the plant life in the jungle." "I have a bit overloaded you, haven't I? If you need help, please bellow," said Lt. Carrow, her mouth twisting in a way that Shayhiloosh had learned to term as regretful. Shayhiloosh hastened to reassure the Science Chief. "My Child Shureshlee has been a great deal of help, although botany and cataloging are not hir greatest strengths; these are not challenging enough for this Child. And Shureshlee has made some friends on the Hades. It is good for hir to have a wide range of experiences and a relatively safe place to root deeply. Stability is an important factor with children." Shayhiloosh continued, "So I have no need to do something as impolite as bellow, Lieutenant. On the other root, if you would like to join us now and then in the Bay to get more accurate reports and have the chance to relax at the same time, you are always most welcome." Shayhiloosh's eyebulbs crinkled with humor and s/he gave a whispery chuckle though hir leaf bladders. "If you are there in person you would have the chance to walk though the small sparkling clearings, smell the fragrant angelwing flowers, and see the tortuga orchid vines. It is pleasant work to help with the green globefruit harvest. There are several bushes that produce abundantly and I am told they taste very good. We have tested them extensively for toxins and they appear to be nutritious for most humanoid species." (Reply Ardena Carrow, Kenneth McKenzie) "I would be glad to give you a tour of the Bay as well Ensign McKenzie. You are a welcome addition to our department. Please come to the Bay or the Arboretum now and then. I tend both areas. I get so busy that it is hard for me to leave. I rarely get out except for meetings." (Reply Ardena Carrow, Kenneth McKenzie) "Shureshlee has morning classes and then s/he will study for a while, but then during the early afternoon we need to rest. We also watch over the ship on the Dreamplane. We root in the Arboretum in a lovely soft bed of dark fertile soil. It allows us greater depth in which to root as that is important to Shureshlee's developing root system. We are up again during evening and night hours. That is when my offspring works at hir class projects and will often help in the Bay with cataloging the plants." Shayhiloosh main branches swelled with parental pride as s/he spoke of hir Child. "I know I speak far too much about Shureshlee, but s/he is a talented and well behaved Child. Maybe I do need to socialize outside of my work space more often." The Arborian's leaf bladders shook gaily in soft whispery laughter. Windsong-Trommashere - 1040) Angeni walked through the corridors, unbuttoning her coat. Her face held the steely look of clinical detachment; her body was still reeling from the fleeting physical contact between her and Jon, but her mind told her that there were more important things to focus on. Jon was right; she had to tell Lemar what was going on. Parts of her wandered back to when she was on the Myst, how one illness sent her back home to spend time doing...it didn't matter. Parts of her had always felt that her former Captain and even the ACMO had it out for her. Neither of the two had been overly friendly to her, not that she expected it, but both would toss out her clinical judgement in favor of their own. Those days, she always wondered why they even let her hold the title of CMO; they both seemed to want it more. Those days seemed to be so far in the past, but one thing kept her reaching to the depths of her memory; Mason Garrett. She owed him one thing: He allowed her to love. He reached into her soul and pulled out the best parts of her to show off. Around him, she didn't need to throw around fancy medical terms, or pull a piece of Targ from someones' throat with a pair of titanium forceps for him to look at her as if she was the apple of his eye. While she knew that Cindy would hold his heart for forever, there was a bond between the two of them that transcended mere mortal planes. They truly had a connection. Angeni leaned against the wall of the turbo lift, her heart palpating in her chest. She realized with a sudden flourish that the feelings she had for Mason stopped at a certain point. Sure, he'd be her first kiss, first love, and first...well...but Jon had struck her deep in her soul. He managed to make her feel like a real person, but at the same time, she felt vulnerable. She hated feeling akin to being completely naked in front of a crowd. She wanted nothing more than to open up to him, but she hated how it made her feel. Maybe she would be able to truly open up, and stay open. The young cherokee woman began feeling the starting symptoms of infatuation. Not the crazy Pon Far that some of her colleauges may go through, but she truly found Jon to be that person that she wanted to get to know better. He brought the comfort that her restless soul needed. The turbo lift doors opened, and she stood there. She was afraid to step out of the turbo lift because she wasn't sure if there was even a floor; she was floating on cloud nine. Ammon Ranae - 1042) After the meeting had concluded, Ranae decided she would enjoy the rest of her day off first, by having some brunch as she hadn't eaten breakfast, and the best place to get some food was either the mess hall or 10-F so she'd decided on the latter. The place wasn't very full but she was sure that would soon change as it was approaching break times for the crew members who were on Alpha shift. She took her usual place seated by a window, facing the door after replicating some blueberry pancakes and maple syrup with back bacon and an iced cappuchino and began to tuck in while she pondered on whether she would just be a lazy bum and read all day or do some sculpting, painting or holoprogramming. While she ate, she watched the door, wondering if any of her colleagues or friends would join her. He was thinking about his SF career and what might have been. He entered the lounge and noticed Ammon Ranae sitting off by herself. Jackson had not had a lot of opportunity to meet the Hades crew. Tom figured he might as well stop over and see if the Lieutenant wanted some company. "Hello Lieutenant, I'm Tom Jackson - may I join you?" he asked. (reply: Ammon Ranae iyw) Tom took a seat across and waved at a waiter to come take his order. Remembering his manners he asked "Would you like anything?". (posted by: Bill West) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 1043) Angeni flounced into the bay with a feeling of lightheaded-ness. It could've been from the lack of oxygen due to her poorly functioning pump, or it could've been the feeling of new found affection. She walked up to Dr. Ru'nat and she smiled politely at her. The woman was a hard case to crack. She wanted to get to know her associate better, but she just seemed so gruff, it seemed like it would be a hard task. "So...what's going on with him? I know you said heightened neurological readings...which isn't good. I'm trying to keep him sedated as humanly possible." As she was talking, she looked at the computer screens that were fixed ~Thank the Mother for world class Engineers. Now it's time for me to try and fix one of them...~ They showed high Adrenal levels. His body was turning the tables on the young doc. His brain was sending signals to fight, when everything else was telling him to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. The inevitable had finally occured; they were going to have to do something with his leg. The young doc walked over to the biobed, putting her hand on Norm's shoulder. She leaned down close to his ear, making her voice as smooth and as soft as possible. "Mr. Harper. It's Dr. Trommashere...I need you to try and relax for me. I know you probably feel really odd right now, but I'm trying to keep you very sedated. I'm trying to make sure you're not in any pain. You have extensive injuries that I am trying to repair." Her eyes glanced down at the BODA Bag that encompased his knee. She kept the wound open so that she had an idea of where she needed to go. Just like chasing the path of a 20th century bullet, wound edges and the cavetation of tissue would help her find the epicenter of this disaster. "I'm going to give you more medication to try and get you to relax more. Don't fight it my friend. I think I may have a solution to your problem." With that, the young doctor walked into her office, pulling out a stainless steel tray. Opening it, she rumaged through her Orthopaedic tools; many similar to ones most engineers would use to rebuild a ship. She pulled out a small pin, and she held it up into the light as if it would tell her exactly where it needed to go. The pin seemed like the least of her problems. Her mind raced through everything she knew, but Cybernetics just wasn't her specialty. The micro-wiring that it took to get everything operational seemed to be beyond her grasp. She hated to do it, but she had to. "Dr. Trommashere to Dr. Kildare. How much experience do you have with Cybernetics? I believe it's time to start working on Mr. Harpers' leg." (Reply Wendy) As she got her answer, she sat down at her computer terminal, and she began dictating a message to Cmdr. Lemar. Cmdr. Lemar. I wish to inform you of my personal injury. I sustained substantial damage to my heart following the what can only be called an electrical shock yesterday. I am currently being monitored on a twenty-four hour basis by Dr. Kildare and those who are in sickbay via a Dermal Electro-Cardio-Gram disk. Right now, I am doing well, I am not asking to be relieved of duty in any sort. The medications I am on right now are doing an effective job at stabilization and are allowing me to function at normal capacity. I am informing you of what is going on just as a Professional Cortesy; nothing more, nothing less. Captain Sash is doing as okay as to be expected. I have gotten some better Neurological Readings in the Frontal Lobes and in the Midbrain; all the activity is showing that his systems are starting to come back online and function on their own. I have been able to schedule the removal of the chest tubes as long as he does not bleed anymore. As I stated, the complex systems of his brain are starting to come back online and try to function. I'm sure he will start waking up soon if his progress continues. Have a wonderful day, Commander. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to find me. Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere, M.D. Angeni sat for a moment, then she clicked the button to send the message. She then sat back, looking at the little silver pin in her hand. (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sick Bay – CEO Norman Harper - 1045) He felt dazed, now, and suddenly Angeni's voice rang in his head. Her words were not clear, but sounded as though she was battling with mechanical interferance. "Mr. Harper." He could hear her, "It's Dr. Tromshhhhhh..." He tried to concentrate on what she was saying, but it was hardly deciferable. "-ow you probably feel really odd right no-," again, Norm struggled to understand her "...trying to keep you very sedated. I'm trying to make sure you're not in any pain. You have extensive injuries that I am trying to rep-." Norm wanted to reach out and grab her arm., to ask her what was going on. Sweat beaded his forehead and he clenched his eyes to let her know that he heard her... or at least he heard most of what she said. "I'm going to give you more medication to try and get you to relax more. Don't fight it, my friend. I think I may have a solution to your problem." Her voice began to become more clear and he reluctantly obeyed her orders. He was never one to sit back, but when it came to that damned leg, he knew better than to fight it. His brain began to space, and he could only assume that she had administered the medication. He heard something mentioned about cybernetics and a pin.... The pin! He suddenly remembered! And, though his consciousness was on the fritz, he could recall quite clearly his decision to use his knee to relay the power through the engines. The first thing he wanted to do was curse. Loudly. But, under the medication he still could not bring himself to speak. He had to trust that the doctor would get him through this, and he did. He would trust Angeni to the ends of space. He made an attempt to let her know, but all that he could do was let out a small groan that would more than likely me misinterpreted. Was it odd that he suddenly wanted nothing more than to get back to the engines? Ammon Ranae - 1046) A thirsty Ranae soon polished off the drink she'd replicated. It wasn't as good as the real thing, but she certainly didn't need the caffeine kick the real thing gave, she had more than enough energy without an added boost. She tucked in to her pancakes for a couple of mouthfuls and paused to look around for a waiter. There was one heading out from the kitchen aread and she was about to call out to him to replenish her drink, so she didn't see who had come to her table until he spoke. "Hello Lieutenant, I'm Tom Jackson - may I join you?" he asked. "Please do and call me Ranae. I will call you Tom. Have a seat." Ranae gestured to the seat opposite hers. The CTAC had seen the man around and knew his name but she really hadn't had the chance to get to know him, perhaps now would be a good time to start. Tom took a seat across and waved at the waiter to come over and asked Ranae if she'd like anything. She nodded, "I was just about to call the waiter over. I would like another iced cappuchino, thank you." Ranae gave the waiter an appreciative smile. "Replicated will be fine, no caffeine!" She told him and then turned her attention to her companion. "I hear you did an exemplary job of aiding in the search and rescue of my beloved Baylon Trinin and participating in repairs. You and the others have my undying gratitude." She told him sincerely. (reply Jackson) With a smile, Ranae ate a little more of her brunch. "These are really delicious, almost as good as mother makes." She grinned at Tom and took another bite. Reaching for her glass to wash it down with a drink, she remembered there was nothing it was empty, but right on cue the waiter whisked the empty one away and put a full frosty glass where she could pick it up right away. Ranae thanked the man and took a good swig. It was wonderful. "Have you ever tried iced cappuccino, it really hits the spot.... What is your take on our being the first Starfleet ship to go to the Romulan home world?" (posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Ten Forward – CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 1047) Jon found himself rather elated after the time he had spent with Dr. Windsong after senior officer meeting. Angeni's revelations regarding her heart condition and fears of 'messing up' in the operating theater had worried him personally and professionally. He happy to see the lovely Native American doctor had agreed to take herself out from some of the terrible pressure of direct patient. ~Hopefully, Great Spirit, my parting words to her will encourage Dr. Windy to take the final step to report to Cmdr Lemar.~ With that thought in mind, Jon was determined to have a 2030 date with Dr. Trommashere, partly to see if she had done as he requested. He still felt her lips on his and her lovely curves against him. He hoped that Angeni would listen to what he might tell her on a professional level too. In planning the rest of the day's activities, Jon found himself being too elated to want to deal with the depressing task of writing the last of the condolence letters to the families of those lost in the Deck 5 explosion. Rather than doing that right now, Jon decided to take an early lunch. ~Food and fellowship might change his consciousness enough so that he could complete that solemn task. Jon went to the nearest Turbo lift and descended the decks, heading for 10 Forward. Of course, with his back to the door, Tom Jackson didn't know that Counselor Nayati was standing a short distance behind him, obviously not wishing to intrude on their conversation at that particular moment. (Reply Tom Jackson) After Lt. Jackson's reply, Jon asked politely, "Would you both mind if I joined you?" Ranae smiled at Jon, she considered him one of her friends. She nodded. "Please do," she said. "The more the merrier." Pausing while Jon took a seat, once he was settled she asked him the same question she'd just asked Tom. (reply: Ranae or Jon) In an effort to shift the conversation from him to anyone else, he asked "What do either of you think about all of this?". (Posted by: Bill West) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward - CTAC Lt. Ammon Ranae - 1051) Ranae asked both Jackson and Nayati what they thought of the mission to Romulus. Tom reflected on his answer for a short pause and looked down at the table before replying. "I am the 'doubting Thomas' I guess" he said in reply. ~Doubting what?~ Ranae wondered, looking at him questioningly. Perhaps he'd elucidate. He went on to explain. "I just can't shake the feeling the Rommie's are up to no good. I can't explain why I feel this way - call it a gut feeling." "Then it's the stomach flu because my guts tell me the same thing." Ranae commented with a nod. (reply Jon) "For so long they've been secretive and not wanting anyone's aid. Why this change and why now?" Tom asked. They only do what will benefit them. They always have and I'm sure they always will. They don't care about anyone except their own race." Ranae said. (reply Jon) Sighing, Tom's next words sounded sentimental. "Oh, what was it like to explore and meet new races - like in the days of Captains Kirk and Picard?" Tom blushed slightly making Ranae believe he had spoken his thoughts aloud and was embarrassed. "It would certainly have been glorious to have been in star fleet in those days. Just think they first met the Klingons and Ferengi to name but two species." Ranae offered as she finished off her pancakes and reached for her iced cappuccino. (reply Jon) Tom, still blushing, apologized for rambling and asked for their thoughts on the matter. Ranae felt she'd already explained she was of like mind and sipping on her frothy, cold drink, she waited for Jon to speak, her eyes flicking from Tom to Jon. (Posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Ten Forward – CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 1055) Jon had ordered a simple lunch of Sarkla steak, Caesar salad, fried Tarkellian eggs and Earth soy milk. As he ate, Jon listened to Lt. Jackson talk about his basic trepidations concerning the motives of the Romulans for wanting open negotiations with UFP and wistful desires to resume the greater exploration of deep space. Internally Jon shared Lt. Jackson desire to forsake the course of battle for the peaceful course of deep space exploration and contact with new races. After all if Starfleet hadn't reached NCR II he, Lt. Jackson and Lt. Renae won't be talking together in Ten Forward right now. After apologized for rambling, Tom Jackson opened up the table for feedback. "What do either of you all think about this?" To which Jon replied, "No need to apologize Mr. Jackson. I enjoyed your reminiscence about the good old days of Captain Kirk and Captain Piccard. After being in the tail end of the bloody civil war, we all participated I too would pursue a course of action free of war and death. (Reply Tom Jackson, Ammon Renae, Any) "I also share your reservations regarding the motives of the Romulans for wanting to negotiate with us, Sir." "My main concern revolves around the Romulans knowledge that Starfleet now has cloaking technology of it own. I feel that knowledge of the Federation deploying cloaking technology might make the Romulans very nervous. My personal research on the Romulans indicates that they don't like to feel nervous, especially about their interstellar rivals that have developed cloaking technology of their own." (Reply Tom Jackson and Ammon Renae, Any) "What better way for the Romulan to find out about Star Fleet cloaking technology than to invite one its ships over for political negotiations? That way Star Fleet hand delivers a state of the line star ship for the Romulan Empire to study. The Hades is that star ship and we could be the crew that is hand delivering it the RSE, if the Romulans are playing us false." (Reply Tom Jackson and Ammon Renae, Any) "At the risk of sounding paranoid, my concerns here have been greatly exacerbated by the unexpected and, to my mind, unsatisfactorily explained Deck 5 explosion," Jon said. Jon stopped eating as he said those words "The Hades is now quite deep in RSE space and still under repairs." Jon was whispering now. "If we where forced to fight or flee hostile Romulans warships, I don't think our chances of success either way would be very good " Jon pushed what was left his half eaten lunch aside. Now he had lost all his appetite. (Reply Tom Jackson and Ammon Renae, Any) "Sorry to be so blunt, alarmist and depressing," Jon apologized. "But being a tribal wise man on my homeworld often made it necessary for me to see the dark side an unknown situation such as this." (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 1056) Tom listened closely to what Jon Nayati had to say. He interrupted him only once to ask" Jon, when we're in a social setting like this, I'd prefer you to call me Tom or T.J. ok?". (reply: Jon) Seems like more than a few of the HADES crew were dubious as to the intentions of the Romulans. Jon raised an interesting point about the Rommie's feeling nervous what with the Federation able to cloak its vessels. T.J. thought back to his reading of the earliest contacts with the Romulans and how SF felt when they discovered the cloaking ability of the Romulans. Could the Romulans be planning on seizing the HADES as a means to learn more about SF's cloaking technology to try and create a counter. That particular thought disturbed Tom a lot. Looking at Ranae and Jon, Tom voiced his misgivings. "Ranae and Jon - do you suppose that we are to be seized and our databanks be taken in an effort to counter SF cloaking technology?" Tom asked more to himself that to the others. (reply: Ranae, Jon) Tom swore to himself ~ Damn, I;ve got to stop being the naysayer all the time~ - he seemed to have caused a dampening effect on a nice lunch. (Posted by: Bill West) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward – CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 1057) In response Lt. Jackson admonished Jon to call him TJ. Jon nodded and said, "That's exceptional TJ. I am more comfortable with Jon than counselor on an off duty basis. Both of you please address me as Jon on occasions like this one." As he spoke, Jon observed TJ's aura and face become troubled and more introspective. ~Possibly because my rather dire misgivings about the Romulan ulterior motives for this conference, Great Spirit.~ Given what he had true sighted in Tom's aura, Jon was not surprised by what the OPS officer said next. "Ranae and Jon - do you suppose that we are to be seized and our databanks be taken in an effort to counter SF cloaking technology?" Jon responded to Tom's question first. Speaking softly, Jon said, "Think about the rather sudden happen stance of the Deck 5 explosion. This explosion did not occur until we had transported Ambassador Nolan and company on board and crossed into Romulan Space. Then we had the explosion, which meant all our electronic checks, balances and redundancy systems failed at once. Was that explosion coincidence or not? Immediately after we have a Romulan vessel decloak beside us to offer assistance. I think that if the Romulans got on board the Hades, it might be very difficult to get to get rid of them." "Again, is all the aforementioned coincidence or not? I personally feel that the probability of all the events happening by accident is far too great to be accepted as coincidence. What do you both think?" (Reply Lt. Jackson, Lt. Renae, Any) After Jon had said his piece, he noticed the color of sadness in T.J.'s aura. Without using his telepathy, there was no way for Jon to tell whether the depressive coloration in TJ's aura was the result of something he had said, or the result of some inner turmoil that the Lt. was experiencing on his own. ~My professional duty is clear here, Great Spirit.~ "TJ," Jon said. "You look distressed. Is there anything you'd like to talk about? It will be off the record here. If you want to talk to me in my office, whatever you have say will be strictly and professionally confidential." Listen up.” Travis called out at the top of her voice to everyone that could hear her in the Main Engineering section. “As of a few minutes ago, Commander Lemar officially made me the new Assistance CEO.” There were a number of murmurs from different sides of engineering, and Travis did her best to ignore them as she continued, “So that means I am giving you the orders around here, officially. If you need to confirm it, check the ships databanks.” “So...” one engineer began to approach Travis, “...boss!” He smiled and looked to his colleague, standing behind him and leaning against a console. “What are your orders?” Travis smiled back. She had expected a little more resistance, but it seemed that no one had a problem with orders from the Command staff. Raising her to the position of ACEO would probably solve a LOT of problems. Whatever people’s personal problems with her might be, they were professional enough to see past it and do their jobs. “Pretty much as they were before” she said finally, moving to the nearest main console access and bringing up her status report from earlier in the day. “We need to seal off that breech as best we can.” She looked up and indicated to the engineer that had spoken to her. “Bailey, that’s you. Take Harrison, Turner and Riley too.” She paused and then added, “Actually, you better take J’nai too.” “Yes ma’am,” said Bailey, waving for the others to follow him. “Hey!” she objected. “I’m only 31. When I get to my forties, then you can call me ma’am.” She laughed after him as he headed to get some supplies to take with him back to deck 5. Turning back to her console she looked at the next thing on her list. ~Recycling~ she thought, remembering that Jackson had arranged for the debris to be transferred to the cargo bay rather than for it to be recycled on-site. It didn’t make a lot of sense to Travis, but she hadn’t been there to object at the time. “I need a team on that debris in the cargo bay.” She looked up and laid her eyes on a Bolian engineer to her left. “That’s you. Pick a team of three and get down there A-SAP. I want it recycled and back into the system by 1800 hours.” With no response other than a nod, the Bolian engineer quickly made his selections and headed out. He didn’t stop to pick up any tools, though Travis suspected there would already be tools there waiting for them. She thought for a moment about signalling Tom Jackson to aid them, but then thought better of it. ~He’s no doubt got his own duties to be getting to~ and so she looked at the screen again and moved onto the next thing. “Alright then; next is our power supply to the upper decks.” She pondered for a moment about who was best for this task. “Our little work-around is great, but I want a more permanent solution in place by the end of the day.” She looked to Debbie Weston, who had so far not received any marching orders from her newly in-charge friend. “Debs, that’s your job.” “Hey, that fix will hold you know.” Debbie objected with a smirk. Dana shook her hair and raised her brow, trying not to roll her eyes at her friend. Somehow she just knew that she wouldn’t just get to work without comment. “I don’t want to take any chances. I want something in place that doesn’t break about three or four Starfleet regulations.” Weston began to make her way toward the door, dragging her feet a little. “Spoil sport!” she said as she walked through into the corridor. “Get up to Saucer Engineering and coordinate things from there.” She looked around to see who was left. “Jeffries, grab a team and go with her. Get in touch with Walker too. Get him involved, it might make the job go faster.” As Ensign Jeffries accepted the orders, Travis looked around at the few that had been left in the main engineering section. “The rest of you, there is plenty of routine stuff to do right here. Let’s get to work.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 8, Temporary Quarters – Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 1107) Since the briefing had ended, Bree had tried not to think about the armed security guard that was trailing her. Although she appreciated the sentiment, she really didn’t think it was necessary. What had happened had been an accident, but everyone was rushing around in a fit of paranoia, looking for someone to blame for the whole affair. Bree didn’t like it at all. She had other things she needed to think about and unfortunately Jericho Nolan wasn’t one of them. She felt a little guilty in that respect, but she was sure that if he were here he would understand. She had a set of negotiations she needed to win-over. It wouldn’t be long until they reached Romulus now, with a little over 2 days at high warp. She knew they weren’t prepared for what would inevitably come, and she needed to make her peace with Ardena Carrow if they had any hope of creating a united front against the Romulans. ~First things first~ she thought as she entered her quarters, leaving the security officer at the door. She walked in toward the computer station that she had been provided with and activated the screen. “Computer, are sub-space communications back online?” [Affirmative] came the prompt response from the computer. “And do I have any messages?” she asked, hopefully that her contact had been in touch. When she had sent her message, she had been careful not to mention anything about the explosion, or the fate of Jericho, but she had stressed an urgency that she hoped would have been adhered to. [You have one message] “Excellent,” she said, sliding down into the seat beside the screen. “Display message.” [Message has been encrypted.] ~Of course it has~ she smiled and shook her head for not realising right away. The last thing she wanted was Romulans peaking at her sub-space transmissions, despite it being sent via the public channels. “Decrypt message using algorithm Frazier-Pi-1-2-1. Display message when complete.” [Working...] Bree waited patiently as the computer decoded the message for her, and just a few moments later a jumble of text began to scroll onto the screen. “Great, this is just what I have been waiting for...” she said as she began to thumb through the files on her screen. Brianna Frazier had friends in many places, thanks to her career in Starfleet. Those friends happened to have access to certain sources that provided her with information that was available on the normal federation channels – namely, information on the Romulan delegation, which until now had been kept from them. “Now it’s time to shine some light on what we’re up against.” She sat there with great interest as she read through the information, knowing that she would need to pass this on to the rest of the team as soon as possible. “Computer, send a message to Counsellor Nayati, Lieutenant Jackson, and Lieutenant Carrow.” She waited briefing for the computer to recognise her request. “I am holding a get together in my quarters at around 1400. Please attend, as I will be sharing some very important information on the negotiations with you all.” “Sign and send.” She finished, and as the computer dealt with her request, she continued to look over the information before her. It had been a very stressful time for him and he was beginning to feel the effects of needing a break. He allowed Ensign Talbot to take over the OPS station for now and made his way to Sickbay, partly to see for himself how well the Captain and others injured during the crisis were doing. He was very tired and had been at his duties nonstop with few breaks to snack. He had stopped of in his quarters for a meal which made him feel better and thought an hour or two for a snooze in the atmospheric chamber in Sickbay might do him some good. He scanned around Sickbay and rumbled his way as quietly as he could to Chief Harper's biobed. Taking hold of Lt. Harper's hand in his main phalange he quietly said, "Get better Sir. We want you back all healed up and whole. You sleep well and take it easy." (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - ACMO Doctor Wendy Kildare - 1110) Wendy went back and forth about this for a while. In fact, while Angeni was in her meeting she had changed her mind three or four times as to whether she should say anything at all. But it kept coming back to the fact that the ideas in her head were bugging her, and she just couldn't let it go. She didn't really want to bother Angeni, in her current condition, but there was no way to avoid it. Finally she decided it was best to just get it over with. She stepped over to the CMO's office and rapped on the door jam. When she saw Angeni look up Wendy smiled and stepped in. "Hey," she said, "you got a minute?" (reply Angeni) "I have a problem," Wendy admitted. "Well, not me personally, but there is a problem with a patient. Raizel Grem to be specific." (reply Angeni) Wendy sighed, "It's not something I can't put my finger on but there was something about her that seemed odd. When I told her about Nolan's death she didn't seem surprised at all. She looked, at best, or worst as the case may be, disappointed, but definitely not upset. Granted she'd just been through her own harrowing experience, but even that was odd. Her injuries weren't all that bad, and, I know this sounds odd but, if I didn't know better, I'd say that they were self inflicted." (posted by Al Muir) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 1112) "Hey," she said, "you got a minute?" Angeni spun around in her chair, putting her medicated hypospray back in the drawer. She rubbed her neck with a sheepish smile. "Try to inject Cardizem once...it's stings like crazy. Please, come on in, have a seat. I have some Iced Mango juice ready and waiting if you'd like it." She picked up her glass, drinking the orange liquid slowly. She watched the Captain's neuro readings go up, and she readjusted his Propothol dosage from her seat in her office. "Are you okay? I hope there's nothing wrong." "I have a problem," Wendy admitted. "Well, not me personally, but there is a problem with a patient. Raizel Grem to be specific." "Medically?" She pulled up Raziel's file on the computer. She skimmed over it quickly, shrugging her shoulders. "Non-specific traumatic injuries from the electro-surge..." She went back in her own mental databank. Raziel seemed to be an odd one, but outside of just seeming a bit on the quiet, withdrawn side, she seemed fine. Her injuries seemed odd to say the least, but she wasn't one to get deep into the questionare, especially since it was Wendy's patient. All she did was look over the file and have the stuff sent to critical storage. Wendy sighed, "It's not something I can't put my finger on but there was something about her that seemed odd. When I told her about Nolan's death she didn't seem surprised at all. She looked, at best, or worst as the case may be, disappointed, but definitely not upset. Granted she'd just been through her own harrowing experience, but even that was odd. Her injuries weren't all that bad, and, I know this sounds odd but, if I didn't know better, I'd say that they were self inflicted." Angeni looked at Wendy, narrowing her eyes. There was nothing about the woman in front of her that would make the young doctor feel like she was lying to her. She moved a bit closer to Wendy, lowering her voice slightly. "I trust your judgement in its' entirety. If you feel there's something amiss, then I'm pretty sure there is." She turned around, scrolling through the file again. Her eyebrow arched slightly as she turned back to Wendy. "You're on to something. All she had was a simple scalp laceration. The wound edges were clear from what your exam states. The only way she would've gotten such a clean swipe over the forehead would have been if she would've fell on a knife or something very sharp. Just falling and splitting the skin would've resulted in a more...jagged wound edge..at least that's what I've seen from my own experience. What do you want to do about this?" (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – COPS Lt. Maraht – 1120) After visiting in his quiet way as only a rock like Horta can with some of the other crew, Maraht detected where they had Captain Sash. He shifted his way through the Bay, and linking up his main phalange with Captain Sash's hand, he spoke to him. "Sir, when you are well and ready, you come back to us. We will need you and you must get better. Please do not stay away for long. We miss you. Wake up soon." Maraht felt uneasy about the Captain. His normally vital countenance appeared pale and wan with lessened neural activity. He hoped the Captain was resting well, but he could not help being concerned. (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 8, Temporary Quarters - Ambassadorial Aid Raizel Grem - 1130) Raizel wasn't completely rested from her adventures last night, but she knew that she had to get back into the foray of the mission. When she had heard that ...Ambasador... Frazier had taken over for Nolan Raizel had rolled her eyes. Was it not enough that Nolan was dead, but she had to suffer with that Betazoid in charge now. For a moment she wondered if another "accident" could be arranged. However, she knew that it would be too suspicious. Resolved to accept Frazier as the new person in charge of the negotiations with the Romulans, Raizel decided it would probably be best if she went to see her new boss. And that was what brought her to the new quarters of Brianna Frazier. Some well meaning platitudes and shallow flatteries might make an impression on the woman. With a sigh Raizel reached up and tapped the door chime. The door opened and she stepped in. Seeing Frazier there Raizel donned a somber look and moved to the new ambassador's side. "Brianna, thank the stars that you're fine," she sounded sincere. "I just couldn't believe when I heard about Jericho. How awful. Have they heard anything further on the cause of the explosion?" (reply Frazier) "And you," she continued, "you feel you're up to taking over this mission? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make that sound as though I don't have confidence in you, but it is being thrust into the center of this thing quite suddenly. I just want you to know that you have my full support." (posted by Al Muir) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 8, Temporary Quarters – Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 1131) Busying herself with preparing for the meeting, Bree had been surprised when the door chime had sounded. ~Who can that be?~ she contemplated as she approached the door to see who was calling for her. When the doors slide aside to reveal Raizel Grem, Brianna had smiled and invited her to enter. “Brianna, thank the stars that you're fine,” said Raizel sincerely. “I just couldn't believe when I heard about Jericho. How awful. Have they heard anything further on the cause of the explosion?” Brianna turned and headed back to the centre of her quarters. She didn’t have half of the luxuries that she had in her previous quarters, like the luxurious furniture and the artful decor, but she had managed to make a comfortable meeting area from a few odd seats and a small round table in the centre. She couldn’t help but find Raizel’s comments a little strange. ~I wonder why she never expressed her concern earlier?~ Both Raizel Grem and Paris Kolar had been present during the morning briefing, but deciding that it was perhaps down to the lack of privacy to speak, she dismissed the inner question and answered, “Not yet, although I am a little disturbed by all this talk of saboteurs. I have to think that the security on this ship is starting to stretch to paranoia.” “And you,” continued the petit blonde, "you feel you're up to taking over this mission?” As Bree turned toward her, Raizel paused and then added, “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make that sound as though I don't have confidence in you, but it is being thrust into the centre of this thing quite suddenly. I just want you to know that you have my full support.” Brianna couldn’t help but be touched by the sentiment. It had been a long time since someone had shown such concern for her own well being, other than Jericho of course. It seemed that she had been forced to look out for herself for so long that this sort of thing might take a little getting used to. “Thanks,” she said plainly as she poured a glass of water and offered it to Raizel. “I think I’ll be able to cope with the extra pressure.” She grinned, taking a glass for herself also. As she sat herself down, she took a cooling sip from the glass and considered her position. “Really, your support is a greatly appreciated. Believe me, we will probably need all the help we can get.” She paused long enough for Raizel to be seated before she continued, “I’ve called together another meeting, for 1400 hours. I’ve received some interesting information about the Romulan delegates.” (reply: Grem) With a nod of confirmation Bree took another sip of her water, relaxing a little in the company of a friend. “Apparently, we have some pretty big opposition in the Romulan Senate; none other than Chairman Vaebn of the Romulan Tal Shiar.” Vaebn was the current leader of the Romulan Intelligence Wing, a man to be feared by many. Jericho Nolan had told them all as much, but this was the first time Bree had discovered that this man was against the peace negotiations. (reply: Grem) “Apparently, the Continuing Committee is also divided against us. That makes our job even harder.” Frazier added with a playful raise of the eyebrows before settling into a smile. “I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the challenge.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – COPS Lt. Maraht – 1132) Maraht rumbled his way as quietly as possible to the atmospheric chamber. Though his carapace was not showing signs of stress, his mind certainly was and he would not endanger his shipmates by becoming too stressed and worried to perform his duties well. He knew Counselor Nayati would have approved of his choice of activity. He set the controls and timer to awaken him after an hour. Moving his bulk through the door, he hoped he would have a good nap and feel more refreshed. Maraht, cuddling up his main phalange underneath him, relaxed in the chamber as it slowly cycled up to the heavier atmosphere that Horta enjoyed many miles underground on Janus IV. He settled in to have some good dreams of home, Venerable Mother and Oona. He opened his mouth with the intent to speak, and was shocked when his brain and his mouth could make the connection. Given, the word he had chosen was in no way polite, but it did come out, nonetheless. He glanced around to make sure no one had heard, and was satisfied upon seeing no offended eyes staring at him. He looked around, remembered the talk of the pin and looked down at his knee. The blanket had been pulled over it, so he assumed he was free... Or something like that. He propped himself up on his elbows and looked about to spot a nurse. Having found one, he hailed with one arm. Thank you for your confidence. I’ll keep you fully apprised of our situation.” Jonas spoke with a smile, clearly pleased with the conversation he had just had with the officials at Starfleet Command. Approximately 10 minutes ago, the Hades had received a coded hail on a priority channel. It had surprised Jonas, but he had taken the call in his ready room. It was the first time he had found a need to use his security clearance and encryption protocols, but when he had provided the necessary passwords the communication had revealed an Admiral from Starfleet. =^=See that you do Commander. Command out=^= The screen blipped off and Jonas breathed a sigh of relief. The Admiral had called in response to his status report, regarding the fate of the Ambassador and the injury of the Captain. Jonas had feared that the Admiralty might try to scrap the mission and recall the Hades, but they had agreed with Jonas’s own assessment of the situation and were giving their approval to the continuation of mission. There was a knock at the door, and as Jonas looked around to call ‘enter’, the door opened and in walked Jason Miller. “Come right in,” said Jonas sarcastically as he turned back to the computer screen and contemplated what the Admiral had just said to him. Miller walked in with two new dataPADDs, rolling his eyes and saying, “Geez! That bad was it?” He placed the new information on the desk in front of Jonas and took a step back. Jonas looked up with a sheepish smile. He hadn’t intended to come across so grumpy, so he took the PADDs and said, “Sorry. No, it was actually good. We have the approval of command to continue.” Jason turned and caught sight of a comfortable chair behind, so he backed up slightly and took a seat and made himself at home. “So, why the glum face? Is command of a starship weighing down on you?” He smiled, knowing that that wasn’t likely to be the problem. Jonas had been in command before, and Jason had done nothing but make things easier for him since he’d been on the scene. Jonas shook off his veil of thoughtfulness and smiled. “Not at all. You know me Jase, always up for the challenge” As Jonas looked at Jason, he just made that face that said ‘and what else’. So he decided to tell the Yeoman what was on his mind. “I’ve just learnt something about our diplomatic adversaries.” “That’s a good thing, right?” Miller said, at the same time as wondering where he had received this new information from. Not long ago, Jonas had received a package of information from Ambassador Frazier. She had pulled some strings and managed to come up with some extra intelligence on the Romulan delegates. The information would of course prove to be useful and to their benefit, but it was definitely a cause for concern. “Well it is, but it also means we need to most definitely need to watch our backs.” Jonas looked serious now, given that the safety of the ship was now very clearly in question. “It seems that the late Jericho Nolan wasn’t entirely up front with us to begin with.” Miller held up his hands, as if to stop the commander from speaking. “Say no more. It sounds like you should be having this conversation with Lieutenant Trinin.” Miller stood up, “Do you want me to arrange a meeting with him?” Jonas waved a hand in Jason’s general direction. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll just stop by and surprise him.” He smiled, pushing himself away from his desk. Soon after, the two men left the ready room and went their separate ways. As he walked through what was once a set of storage bays, he admired the work that had taken place to transform this area into usable offices for the security department. Following some simple directions on a PADD, Jonas arrived at what he deemed to be the temporary office of the Security Chief. Knocking briefly at the door, he entered the office, hoping to have caught the Chief at a good time. “Good afternoon Lieutenant, not disturbing you am I?” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Temporary CSEC’s Office – FO Commander Lemar & CSEC Lieutenant Trinin – 1345) Baylon had been going over the security shift rotas again. Sure, he had completed them once, and even revised them twice already, but there still something about them that he just wasn’t happy with. When there was a knock at the door, Baylon was a little surprised to see Commander Lemar enter and announce himself. “Please, come in Commander.” Baylon said as the commander move to take a seat at his make-shift office desk. “So, what can I do for you?” he asked, not intended to sound rude, although he did have a lot of work to do and Lemar didn’t often make a habit of personal visits without good reason. “Oh I just came to see how you were settling in down here” said Jonas, not altogether convincingly. As he looked around the office, he saw that Baylon had made a small attempt to make the office more comfortable by hanging a picture that he had rescued from his previous office. Instantly he was hit with a sense of pride. Despite the disastrous turn of events that had nearly cost the CSEC his life, both he and the rest of the crew were just able to turn around, pick up the pieces and make a new place for themselves to carry on their work. It was something he really admired about this crew, about this man. Baylon regarded the commander suspiciously, but answered with a smile. “Well we’re set up for routine business. I guess the change of scenery will just take a little bit of getting used to.” Eyeing the commander’s unusual fascination with his choice of decor, Baylon deactivated his console and moved closer across his desk. “Was there something specific you wanted to discuss Commander?” Baylon smiled, not wishing to seem disrespectful to the First Officer. He didn’t really need a reason to be anywhere on the ship, especially now he was acting Captain. Jonas immediately met Trinin’s gaze and gave a guilty smile. “Actually, there was.” He reached out and handed a dataPADD to the Lieutenant and explained, “Ambassador Frazier has given to me this information, and I felt that you should be made aware of it.” Raising an interested eyebrow, Baylon moved to accept the PADD from the Commander. He said nothing, but began to read the front page of information on the device. “That PADD gives details about the Romulan delegation...” continued Jonas, watching the Lieutenant as he tried to quickly absorb the data he had just been given, “...as well as some influential figures that are for, and against these negotiations.” ~Not really anything here that jumps out...but...what...?~ After just a few moments, Baylon looked up and exclaimed, “Chairman Vaebn!” The security chief had come across that name before in his research, in fact the name had been linked to many of the Romulan most recently known atrocities. Jonas nodded solemnly. “Indeed, none other than the leader of the Tal Shiar. Unfortunately for us, it says he is against any sort of peace treaty with the Federation.” Resting the reading device on the desk for a moment, Trinin scratched at his head. “This does shine a new light on our recent turn of events.” Immediately he began to wonder where T’Sol was right now. She would need to know this information too. “The explosion?” asked Jonas, not really putting the two things together before now. ~Why didn’t I think of that before??~ He shook his head and sighed. Suddenly it all seemed quite clear, and you could piece all manner of explanations together from just that small link. “We already have a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to sabotage” explained the Security Chief. “I would think this is just the sort of thing we’d expect from a Romulan Intelligence agent.” He reactivated his computer and began to access internal sensors to locate T’Sol. She was leading the investigation into the explosion, and he wanted to summon her right away. “Still, without actual evidence...” Jonas started to protest, “...I don’t want us to jump to that conclusion.” Jonas was very keen not to start throwing accusations at the Romulans, especially without any sort of real proof behind them. The mission had already taken its fair share of hiccups. Surely no more were headed their way. Trinin looked at the commander, as if to shame him for suggesting such a thing. “That was not my suggestion, Commander.” Having sent a private message to Ensign T’Sol, he picked up the PADD again and continued read some of the other details it contained. “All this does is strengthen my resolve to continue this investigation.” Jonas smiled, never really doubting the security chief for a moment. “I’ll leave you to look through the rest of the names.” As he stood up to leave, another thought jumped to his mind that he thought worthy of mention. “One thing I did notice,” he began as he pushed the chair back toward the desk. “Chairman Vaebn does not hold a position on the Continuing Committee, the empires ruling body. If that is so, it would stand to reason than he has someone on that council very close to him, if not in his employ directly.” Looking up at the commander he waved the PADD between finger and thumb. “Leave it to me Commander. If there is any further information on these people, I will do my utmost to find it.” Jonas turned and left the office, very satisfied that security measures would be increased around sensitive areas. He wouldn’t be surprised if security shifts were running double and triple by the time they reached Romulus. She figured Ms. Frazier was looking for a way to lord it over her, again. ~Oh, give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's grown up to match the responsibility.~ She couldn't believe a member of the Federation, ex-Starfleet even, would get so wound up just because she wouldn't let the woman read her mind. Was nothing sacred? She wouldn't let a stranger in to her quarters to rummage through her drawers out of morbid curiosity, she wasn't about to give access to her mind. Staring at the door, she took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth and rang the chime, doing her best to look neutral and not like she would rather be in the warp core than here. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge – Lieutenant Dren Trennag - 2322) Dren Trennag was feeling woogie. His stomach was churning and his head was dizzy. He wished he could make the helm officer, the security officer or even the operations officer command so he could take a trip to the head. But in 'enemy' territory only those with command access could be given command of the bridge. He called up the roster on those who did. He then asked the computer to clarify who was still awake and able to take over for a few minutes. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Gymnasium – Yeoman Denise Lebranski – 2324) She let the upper level bar slip through her hands with practiced ease as she twisted in air and felt the lower bar grasp her waist, she let gravity spin her once before she gripped it solidly, swinging around again with a thrust of legs. She grasped the upper bar with her knees and was starting into another spin when her communicator chirped. Startled, she grabbed the bars and dismounted with more speed than grace. Who the hell could want her at this hour? She'd just been working off worry and tension. "Lebranski here." =/\= Lieutenant Trennag requesting your presence on the bridge. =/\= Said a voice abruptly. Denise could only raise an eyebrow in wonder, she couldn't say she'd ever dealt with the man. "On my way, sir." She said, wondering if she should change into a uniform. But he'd sounded urgent, so wiping the chalk off her hands and patting off sweat, she tossed her towel into the recycler and headed up to the bridge. Shorts and a tank top would just have to do! (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – Crewman Denise Lebranski - 2327) Denise stepped onto the bridge, almost walking into the Bolian who looked more green than blue. "Sir?" She said, taking a step back, almost back into the turbolift. "You're in command." He said, pushing a button on the auxiliary panel next to him and disappearing into the head at the back of the bridge. Denise stared after him with an open mouth. Well, SURE, the Captain had given her command access so she didn't have to bug him with every little thing BUT.. She looked at the officers on watch who seemed to be more amused than anything else. Well! It wasn't like she was really *needed* it was more a formality, really. She walked down the bridge and sat in the comfy chair. Oh, she could get to like this! Plush, back support, head rest.. Yes, definitely. Too bad she didn't have her tiara. "Any orders, Captain?" The Operations officer asked, seeming more amused than the other two. "Er, no." Denise said, wondering if she *was* supposed to give some sort of order having taken over the command watch. "Carry on as is?" "Aye Aye sir." Was the even more amused reply. Denise was more than happy to sit in the comfy chair and watch the view screen. There were the standard updates from the various departments, reports incoming. She may as well file and sort all that while she sat there. Save her some work in the morning. Oh, the new JAG officer's office no longer had a space side view through the wall, she should probably let him know. What were they do to do with a JAG officer anyway? All SHE knew SHE wasn't doing HIS paperwork for him! It wasn't until she had sorted through the admin inbox till she realized the Lieutenant still wasn't back. "How long as he been gone?" she asked the Security officer, getting to her feet. (Reply Security) Denise chewed her lip and walked to the back of the bridge and knocked on the door. While it was unisex, she didn't feel right about walking in on an *officer*. There was no answer, she shifted from foot to foot. She looked at the Security officer who was looking at her. Well, she supposed it was up to her to make the decisions. Someone, somewhere, was laughing their ass off. "Break in." She told the officer. (Reply Security) Denise went in and found Dren lying on the floor in a right mess. She hurried over, ignoring what she was kneeling in, to feel for his pulse. Vaguely she remembered a first aid course on the more populace species in Starfleet and how to judge their health. "Crap." She said. Well, not actually what she said, but everyone in hearing range would pretend that was what she said. She slammed her communicator, "Medical emergency, site to site beam of Lieutenant Trennag to Sickbay." She stepped back out of range and waited for acknowledgement. "Lebranski to Sickbay, incoming emergency. Cause of injury or illness unknown. Lieutenant Trennag is the patient." She was sure there was other information she should be passing on, but be damned if she knew what it was. (Reply Sickbay) After the shimmer and form disappeared, Denise stood staring into nothingness. Now what should she do? Looking down, she realized the first thing she should do was get the yuck off her legs. Feeling slight guilty at using officers' facilities she cleaned off and went back to the bridge. Now what the hell? She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She should get a real commander up here. The Captain was still KO'd in Sickbay but Commander Lemar was so over tired and overworked.. She wanted to let the poor man get his sleep, but.. did the second officer have the authority to relieve her of emergency command? She didn't think so. Hopefully Commander Lemar would be understanding. "Lebranski to Commander Lemar." She said, closing her eyes and praying he wasn't a cranky waker. (Reply Lemar) "Sir, this is Yeoman Lebranski. Lieutenant Trennag called me to the bridge to watch while he .. er, visited the facilities. He wasn't feeling well. When he didn't return in a reasonable amount of time, we investigated and found him unconscious. I've had him beamed to Sickbay, but I need relieved of command and I've no idea who I should be doing that to." She paused, then with a flicker of her old humour, "Unless of course, you don't mind a Yeoman in command in Romulan space.." (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 2, Personal Quarters – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2334) Despite the fact that things were beginning to get back on track, Jonas had still managed to have a very busy day. The briefing in the morning had gone quickly as he had hoped, as had his meeting with the newly promoted ACEO. But from there, things seemed to have taken a spiral out of control. Of course, if he had asked Jason Miller about it, he would have denied all, saying that it wasn’t out of control and that it was just organised chaos. Jonas suspected that Jason had planned his day like that on purpose, to both keep him busy and keep him out of his office. He didn’t really know why, but he was sure that Jason did that sometimes just because he could. It was days like today that Jonas felt like just telling everyone to forget it, and going to take a break in the holodeck. Alas, no such luck! With the ship under his sole command, without a Captain in a fit condition, or even an assigned Second Officer for him to load all the extra work on, Jonas was definitely feeling the pressure and was in need of an early night. Managing to agree with Jason that the latter half of his double shift should be ‘scrapped’, he had tried to relax by taking a long bath and an early night. He had actually hoped that Wendy would have been able to join him, but she had been very busy with Sickbay duties since Doctor Trommashere was trying to take things a little easier because of her condition. Jonas had been asleep for just under two hours when the comm. system had rudely awoken him. =^=Lebranski to Commander Lemar=^= As Jonas stirred ever so slightly, he had thought at first that it had been part of his dream, but when the lights activated he knew that his luck was out for the day. Without opening his eyes to the bright light, he fumbled for his comm. badge by slapping his hand down on anything within reach. On the third attempt he managed to catch his comm. badge but it dropped to the floor. “Uh...” he started, pulling himself closer to the edge of the bed and allowing his eyes to open just a tiny bit. “Mmm...Lemar here” he said sleepily. =^=Sir, this is Yeoman Lebranski. Lieutenant Trennag called me to the bridge to watch while he...er, visited the facilities. He wasn't feeling well. When he didn't return in a reasonable amount of time, we investigated and found him unconscious. I've had him beamed to Sickbay, but I need relieved of command and I've no idea who I should be doing that to=^= As the explanation came over the comm. system, seemingly without a breath from Lebranski, Jonas was forced to wake up far more quickly than he had really wanted. Part of him wanted to say, ‘Good luck’ and turn off the comm. badge and beam it into space, but his better half knew that wasn’t very ‘First Officer’ like. Just then the comm. sounded again as Lebranski said in a mischievous tone, =^=Unless of course, you don't mind a Yeoman in command in Romulan space...=^= At that, Jonas jumped out of bed. ~I’m awake!~ he told himself as he rushed to his closest and pulled out the uniform he had worn that day. “I’ll be there in five...” Jonas said, then closed the channel before Lebranski had time to answer him. He wasn’t in the mood for any of her lip. He wasn’t in the mood for much of anything, apart from more comfortable sheets and sleep. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2339) During the short turbolift journey, Jonas tried his best to make himself look presentable. Staring into the shinny surface of the control panel he stretched at the skin of his face, trying to make his eyes appear more alert and less puffy. He could see they were reddening with tiny little blood shots his bodies way of screaming ‘close my eyes, close my eyes!’ but duty called and if that meant puffy blood-shot eyes then so be it. Stepping out as strongly as he could, he approached the Yeoman in the centre of the bridge. “Thank you for the call, Yeoman.” (reply: Lebranski) He wanted to say ~Wasn’t there anyone else?~ but this wasn’t the place for such comments. Instead he stifled a yawn and with a rub at his aching eyes he asked, “Anything to report?” He looked longingly at the command seat, thinking how good it would feel to collapse down into it and take the weight off his legs. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - Crewman Denise Lebranski - 2340) To say she was happy to see Commander Lemar would be a bit of an understatement. She stopped in mid-pace as he came down to her. "Thank you for the call, Yeoman." She gave him a wry look, "I'm more than happy to keep a seat warm, but I'll leave all actually commanding to the professionals!" "Anything to report?" The poor Commander looked like he hadn't slept in a week. "No sir." Denise wondered if she nudged him if he'd fall into the command chair. "Other than the illness, it's been hunky and dorey here." (Reply Lemar, if any) "So.. uhm.. how do I give command back to you? Its not exactly something I studied in my computer operations course." Denise was certain the poor acting captain probably just wanted to get command, find a suitable officer to take over and go back to bed. (Reply Lemar) "Right sir." She replied, feeling a weight lifting off her shoulders as she gave command of the ship back to an expert. Sure, if there'd been a real emergency she would have let the ranking officer take the lead, but still, for that brief period of time the whole ship, its crew, and their families were her responsibility. It was a heady, and very scary, feeling. (Reply Lemar) Denise tried not to find herself uncomfortable standing on the bridge in exercise gear, remains of gymnast's chalk under her fingernails. "Is there anything I can do to assist you sir?" Besides make the Captain better, the mission over, and give him two weeks on Risa. Well, actually, she might be able to swing the last with some accidental misfiling, but they had to survive THIS first. She had to wonder if the gamma shift officer had been poisoned. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2341) As he sleepily asked if there was anything to report, Lemar swayed slightly in his standing position. As soon as he noticed, he tried to stand still, not altogether successfully. “No sir” answered Lebranski. She looked around at her cohorts and added, “Other than the illness, it's been hunky and dory here.” Jonas couldn’t help wonder why she was so chipper at this time of the day. Surely she had started her shift at least as early as he did. In fact, if he remembered correctly she had actually stayed up most of the night with the Captain. ~Surely she is on some sort of stims~ he thought, just before being incredibly concerned that, if she were, she was in command the ship. “So...uhm...how do I give command back to you? It’s not exactly something I studied in my computer operations course.” The Yeoman looked a little puzzled, as though she weren’t certain about how all this worked. That surprised Jonas, considering she was the Captain’s Yeoman. He would have expected her to know just about everything, like Jason did – or least like Jason appeared to do. Of course, there was the chance that Lebranski was just having another one of those occasions when she was being sarcastic and silly. Jonas hoped it wasn’t one of those times, because he was too sleepy to catch on to such things. “Let me in that chair. I relieve you of Command Yeoman.” Jonas forced and smile and walked past the Yeoman and slumped heavily into the chair. ~Ahh, much better~ he thought, an instant smile flushing to his face. “Right sir” responded Lebranski as she stepped aside to allow Jonas to walk his not entirely straight line to the command seat. After a few moments she asked, “Is there anything I can do to assist you sir?” Jonas had allowed his eyes to close for just a moment, but as the Yeoman spoke he remembered where he was and opened them widely. “NO...” he said loudly before adding, “...I’m awake. I’m fine.” Straightening himself in the chair he tried to assure the gamma-shift bridge crew that he was there and alert. “Thank you Yeoman. You can go back to...whatever to was that you were doing.” He smiled at her briefly. (reply: Lebranski IYW) Then he turned to the access panel in the command seat and searched to see the capable command officers that would not be asleep. During a mission like this, all Senior staff were assigned to Alpha and Beta shifts, unless otherwise required by mission specific tasks. Most of them would off duty, if not actually sleeping. But of course there was one, perhaps even two officers onboard that were both Senior Staff members and would not require sleep. As he realised, Jonas smiled widely and thought vividly of his bed. “Lieutenant Maraht, please report to the bridge.” (reply: Maraht IYW) At first thought, Jonas wondered why Denise Lebranski hadn’t thought to call on the Horta OPS officer. It appeared that the computer did not take into account those officers that did not require sleep, so had not been so forthcoming with the name at the simple search. ~Not to worry~ thought Jonas. ~He’ll be here soon.~ (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - Crewman Denise Lebranski - 2342) Jonas had allowed his eyes to close for just a moment, but as the Yeoman spoke he remembered where he was and opened them widely. "NO..." he said loudly before adding, "...I'm awake. I'm fine." Straightening himself in the chair he tried to assure the gamma-shift bridge crew that he was there and alert. "Thank you Yeoman. You can go back to...whatever to was that you were doing." He smiled at her briefly. Denise was under the impression he just wanted her to go away, that he was disappointed in her in someway. Maybe he was just cranky he'd been dragged to the bridge after finally getting some sleep after a craptastic day. No way to tell with officers at the best of time. "I was doing PT, sir." She'd have thought THAT obvious from her lack of uniform. She gave him a salute and left the bridge. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 6, Corridor – COPS Lt. Maraht - 2342) Rumbling his way through the corridors to check on and oversee many of the repairs, Maraht had been checking with Lt. Hanson at the Ops station on the Bridge periodically to make sure that the repairs were showing up accurately on the Bridge. Each time Ensign Hanson reported green on her console, Maraht felt a little more secure that the Hades was in better condition. With the Chief Engineer injured in Sickbay, Maraht had been doing his best to quietly influence the teams to prioritize repairs and report the assessments to him and the Acting Chief Engineer in an effort to encourage the crew to work as a coordinated group. The repair teams were on mopup tasks now and Maraht felt he could leave more of that to them, though he felt perfectly willing to lend a phalange if it was needed. He knew as the Chief of Operations, his presence would be necessary on the Bridge during the crucial times. Then his Vox chirped and Maraht recognized Cmdr Lemar's voice. =/\=Lieutenant Maraht, please report to the bridge.=/\= Surprised, Maraht answered right away. "Yes Sir. I am on my way." Rumbling his way to the nearest turbolift, Maraht entered and told the lift, "Deck 1." (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – COPS Lt. Maraht - 2343) The turbolift doors opened after a blessedly smooth and uneventful ride to Deck 1. He had worked nonstop around the clock to ensure that the ship repairs continue as fast as possible. He had given thanks many times during all those seemingly endless repairs to the Great Mother Lava for the many efficient repair teams from both engineering and operations departments. He was immensely grateful that he had rested in Sickbay earlier today. As Old Samuel might have put it, Maraht had slept like a rock. He felt more confident about the general stability of the ship. If the Romulans were going to take a tour of the USS Hades, they were going to find a tip top ship in efficiently running order, with the exception of a few missing outer bulkhead pieces. Maraht shifted his bulk out of the lift and as he moved onto the Bridge he noted it was quiet and peaceful. Approaching the center seat, he detected Cmdr Lemar. He came to one side of the Captain's chair and presented himself. "Reporting as ordered Sir." Oddly Maraht felt as if he was back in the Academy facing Lt. Thrall for his final exam. (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Crewman's Quarters - Crewman Denise Lebranski - 2350) Denise settled onto the futon she used as both couch and bed. Her first abuse of power was getting a storage room turned into quarters, the second was not requisitioning standard furniture and paid to have furniture she liked replicated. She may not get holo-time any time soon, but she'd be comfy in her own space. With feet up on her coffee table, Denise was watching 'All my stars,' a really bad soap opera. She had to wonder if the writers had ever been off Earth or met an alien race the way they wrote them.. but still, it was strangely addictive. "I'm sure he was just grumpy and tired." Denise told Mr Whiskers, her plush toy cat, whom she was hugging. She took another spoonful of ice cream. "Probably not very happy about a Yeoman being left in command either." She sighed as she licked the spoon. "And I'm sure he'll be all grumpy that I didn't do whatever it is he's gonna do to get someone else up there to sleep." She winced when the Klingon decided the honour challenge could be put aside due to the wedding. "Of course, we Yeoman are supposed to be psychic and know everything about everything. Nevermind that all we've ever had to know is how to file paperwork and make schedules.. and suck up to important people to make our officer look good." She ate some more ice cream. "I bet Mr Perfect Jason Miller would have gotten it all right." A pause in the pity-party. "If only because Mr Perfect Commander Lemar would have made him learn." Finishing off the ice cream, she left it on the table, not feeling like getting up to deal with it. She dumped the spoon in the container. "Computer, lights." The lights dimmed to blackness, there being no porthole in her quarters. Just the way she liked it for sleeping. She was sure she'd be up at some ridiculous hour in the morning because Mr Perfect Miller expected her to do stuff that she didn't have to do since her boss was lying in a coma and he was doing half the work via Commander Lemar that she would normally be doing for the Captain. Oh well, she'd perfect her Hearts game at this rate.
