She was glad that she could spend some extra time with the counsellor. He seemed a very sweet fellow, extremely good intentioned but also very intelligent. As for Baylon Trinin, she was glad to be able to get to know another Betazoid onboard. As Jon Nayati spoke about his hopes and aims for the next few days, Trinin interjected with “Or whether there is a bigger plot involved here, or an ulterior motive. More specifically, whether there is any immediate discernable danger to our delegation, to your Romulan counterparts or to the Hades ship or crew.” As he smiled, Bree did also. It was clear to her even before Baylon had said, that this was his intention. “In that regards, I have been looking over your dossiers, or at least what I have access to, and I am therefore aware of your service record. I know that you held the Rank of Lieutenant Commander in Star Fleet before your discharge. I also know that you took command of the USS Champlain, after a surprise attack left her more senior command crew incapacitated or dead.” Trinin paused and looked up for a moment. Bree wrinkled her nose just a little, but making sure to smile throughout. It made her a little uncomfortable to have her recent history spoken about as if it were an article in a magazine. The truth was, that it was public knowledge to anybody who felt the need to search for it. She continued to remain silent and worked a little harder on her smile. She was over that phase of her life. It was part of who she was now. It was then that Trinin made a suggestion that Bree found a little unusual. He was suggesting to attach small micro transponders to each member of the delegation, to enable them to be transported to safety if so required. That in itself was not such a problem, but it was the fact that Baylon felt the need for it to be a secret she had a problem with. Baylon jumped right into his own defence, possibly noticing a change in Bree’s response to what he had been saying. “...I want the others to be ignorant of this plan because what they don't know they cannot inadvertently divulge. And I know that you would never betray them. I can see it in your record. Correct me if I'm wrong or if I crossed the line." Bree smiled, uncertain of exactly what she would say or do to get these transponders into position. “No no,” she said, wanting to assure the security chief that he had not crossed any line. She understood the need for secrecy, as well as the need for the transponders in the first place. “I think it’s a good idea.” Then she gave a sly smile and said, “Leave it with me. I’m sure I can find a way to get them into position.” With a nod of acceptance, Trinin seemed to quickly move topics. “The other aspect is of course that I suspect the Romulans enough to believe they could easily plant a spy either on this ship or in the delegation itself. Have either of you noticed anything unusual that might help us in that regard” ~Wow, I didn’t see that coming~ thought Bree, finding it a little hard to maintain her smile. All of a sudden she looked thoughtful, thinking about all she knew of Jericho, Paris & Raizel. She had spent quite some time with Jericho since she had left Starfleet. He was a very learned man with a string of achievements and acknowledgements to his name, and while he was definitely a big supporter of the Romulans, he was no collaborator. Then she thought briefly of Paris Kolar. Her, she had known almost as long as Jericho. She too was an accomplished negotiator, although she was allegedly more favourable of Klingons and other more aggressive species, she had insisted that she be considered for this assignment. Bree wasn’t certain why exactly, but that was no reason to be suspicious – or was it? Finally, Bree’s thoughts drifted to Raizel Grem, the quietest of their small group of diplomats. It occurred to Bree that she knew Raizel the least well of them all, but still, that was no reason to suspect her of treason. But then, she had appeared a little more out spoken than usual since she had come aboard. “Well, I don’t know if it’s anything worth mentioning, but Raizel has been a little more aggressive since we came aboard. In the briefing for example,” she started, looking over at Jon, “I’m afraid I let myself get a little carried away in response to that...” Bree paused for a moment, unsure of what word she should use, but then decided that respectful was the way to go, “...Lieutenant Carrow. Now, she’s the one to watch.” Bree said with a smile. Instantly she regretted it, letting down her guard of professionalism and letting her personal feelings definitely guide her. ~Oh well, you’ve said it now.~ (reply Nayati) “Interesting. As for the use of telepathy. You are more than welcomed to use it with me as needed. I give you my permission.” Trinin’s final statement was a little out of the blue, but very much appreciated by Bree. She smiled warmly and said, “I do appreciate your gesture, Lieutenant.” With that, she looked to Jon Nayati for his comments. Jon felt there was a kindred spirit here. ~Naïve optimism can get you killed if you are too trusting of an enemy that you do not know.~ When Trinin talked about having Brianna Frazier secretly put locatoer microdots on the clothing of Ambassador Nolan Captain Sash and other mebers of the UFP delegation, Jon nodded in approval. "I think its an excellent idea, especially in light of the fact that there are Romulan factions that do not want this conference to succeed. It would be a good way for us to make sure that we can transport out our delegates if things go bad." "Well, I don't know if it's anything worth mentioning, but Raizel has been a little more aggressive since we came aboard. In the briefing for example," said Aide Frazier, looking over at Jon. "I'm afraid I let myself get a little carried away in response to that..." Bree paused for a moment as if unsure, "...Lieutenant Carrow. Now, she's the one to watch," Bree said with a smile. Jon took a cleansing breath before he began to speak. "I observed the argument between you and Lt. Carrow. But I also saw something else. When the debate was at its highest, She was smiling and her aura reflected smug amusement and condescension. This is unusual for someone who is an Ambassadorial Aide who I would think would be trying to smooth the situation over rather than enjoying it. Frankly I haven't seen much of her since then." "Interesting. As for the use of telepathy," said Lt. Trinin. "You are more than welcomed to use it with me as needed. I give you my permission." She smiled warmly and said, "I do appreciate your gesture, Lieutenant." "As do I Lt. Trinin," said Jon. Commander Will Banowsky - 0200) Will had been asleep for a few hours when he was awoken with a startle. He sat up quickly in bed, sweating and gasping. It was a nightmare, and thankfully not a recurring one. Will was a man of strange dreams, that much was certain, but this one was to real. It wasn't one of his weird dreams where he had super powers, or where he was a mythological hero, or even a dream where he was caught in some weird pipes and appeared on Vulcan 100 years in the future, where the Vulcan people had embraced emotions and where the stand up comedians of the Galaxy, no this one was real, and it was not a pleasant dream. It was a vivid dream, he couldn't tell where he was in the dream, but both Lt. Commander Pierce Orde and Lt. Thomas Loyola were present and alive. It was very similar in set up to a dream he had while in college at the University of Oklahoma. In that dream, Will was walking around a shopping center where he ran into the roommate he had freshman year who had died in an accident. In the dream his roommate was alive and well and they caught up on old times. That was a pleasant dream, this one was not. In this dream he was in the captains chair of a defiant class ship, the USS Pluto. Commander Orde was at the tactical, where he always was on the Spectre and Lt. Loyola was standing next to him, advising him, like a good strategic operations officer. As they continued to go along the three of them were transported to another ship alone, where the two men then turned on him and attempted to attack them, both then began to look decayed and began chanting 'We died on your watch, we died in front of your eyes, we died and you lived.' Then as they were about to pounce and get him, because Will's phaser did not work, things began to explode around him, and as the ship was about to be destroyed he glanced over to the side and noticed USS Beowulf. Then the ship was destroyed as Will woke up. He walked over to the replicator and got a mug of hot chocolate as he sat at the table and pondered. Though it was true that both Orde and Loyola had died before his eyes in freak accidents, neither of those deaths were his fault. He had finally come to terms with that, as well as the destruction of the Beowulf, in which Will and the Dennison crew were only able to save five of the crew, only five, out of many. It was war, they were in war, and these were the event s that led him to begin contemplating a leave from the bridge of a starship to the office of a JAG. He had less than a year of service and he felt like these deaths were on his hand, it was too much at the time. And now he felt like he was running away, maybe that was why he entered the JAG corp. Truth be told he had always wanted to be a JAG officer, and he didn't regret it, but perhaps being back on a starship brought back these memories and feelings. This time however Will was used to the reality of life in the service, of hostilities, and of risk. Once he finished his hot chocolate Will returned to bed. There would be no running away anymore, he was Lieutenant Commander William Gonzalo Banowsky of Starfleet, and he was truly certain that he had grown up quite a bit since the last time he was on Starship. And so it was that she spotted Kusto as soon as the doors slid open. He looked nice and was unceremoniously carrying a bouquet of fresh cut flowers. Ana smiled as he practically jogged across the room and presented the flowers to her. He thrust them directly out in front of him very much as if he were a child presenting the very best flowers on the entire planet to a doting parent. A quick troubling thought shot through her head, ~Oh goodness, I hope he doesn't think of me like a mother figure.~ the thought only lasted an instant, but Ana quickly pushed from her mind as Kusto stammered, "Ana, you look-" he trailed off for a moment and pulled up a chair. ~well go ahead say it, Kusto~ She hoped he would finish the thought. She knew that she was being a bit selfish, but she saw no harm in enjoying the fact that he thought her pretty. He seemed to shake away the cats that were holding his tongue hostage with a good shake of the head, before continuing, "You look great." "Thank you Kusto," she replied, then placed her hand on his forearm which was on the table between them while accepting the offered flowers with the other. "This is such a sweet gesture and a good compliment never hurts either. I happen to love wildflowers." She smiled at the engineer and waved down the waitress, who approached the table smiling broadly. "Well aren't those just the prettiest things?" She said as she reached the table. "Yes they are." Ana answered honestly. " Could I trouble you for a large glass of water or a vase if you have one for the flowers?" "Of course." The woman replied and smiled at Kusto. "I'll be right back with that." Ana watched as the woman walked away from the table a slight frown on her face. "Well isn't that just something?" she said under her breath. She turned back to Kusto the smile already back on her face. "I'm very glad you asked me for lunch." Ana said, "I was a little worried that...well you were unhappy after everything that happened on Bajor. I had no idea they were going to revoke my leave, I swear it. And to say that it was awkward...well, that's the understatement of the century." "Arston said he would really like to meet you." Kusto replied smiling again. "I wanted you to meet him too. One day when this mess is over, you and I are actually going to get away and I promise I will show you Bajora. It's a beautiful place." Ana smiled. ~He still wants to take me to Bajora.~ "You know I wrote my father about you Kusto. And do you know what he said to me?" Ana asked. (reply Kusto) "He told me that any man that offers to take planet side on the first date is up to no good. So I'm curious are you up to no good Nerrah Kusto?" (reply Kusto) "Well that's good. Although a little bit of no good never hurt anybody too badly." She said smiling and winked at him. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 14, Main Engineering - Engineer Nerrah Kusto - 2030) Kusto had made sure to keep himself close to the CEO. The man could be a bit short, but that didn't make Kusto respect him any less. He understood -well some - of where the Chief was coming from. He was torn, though, between finding his best friend, trying to communicate with Ana, and making sure the CEO didn't come to a similar end as the ACEO. "Kusto," Debby Weston had taken the role as commander. Nerrah understood perfectly. It was something he had seen his brother, Arsten, do several times during the resistence. What needed to be done, would be done. "I'm heading to the saucer section engineering. Look after the chief, OK?" "You got it, Debbie." Kusto looked around, hoping to catch sight of Henri to ensure to himself that at least his friend was okay. He was nowhere to be seen, and Kusto let out a puff of air as he crouched down next to the CEO. He reached out to check the make-shift bandage he had wrapped around the man's knee. It was soaked through with blood. Unsure of the specifics of human anatomy, Kusto found himself hoping that the CEO hadn't done more harm than he had initially thought. He knew there was an artery in the thigh to be watched for. This was hardly his thigh, but the Bajoran could hardly imagine the artery simply ending as it reached the knee. "Prophets," he muttered, "send somebody our way soon." (posted by Jo) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, CSEC's Office - CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin - 2031) :: I had better do that right now then, because from what I'm hearing they're about to leave. I'll be right back darling.:: Ranae told Baylon. ::I love you, Ranae:: Baylon replied. While his lover passed on his message to Commander Lemar, Baylon decided to turn his attentions to his most immediate need. Warmth. He looked around the room and allowed his eyes to come to rest on a pie sized fragment of duranium that had been ripped free from the outer bulkhead, but because of a piece of flexible conduit had somehow remained in the office with him. Duranium, while not the best material for holding head, would suit long enough, Baylon hoped to keep him alive. He moved over to the weapons locker and manually overrode the door locks. After a few minutes the locker door opened and Baylon pulled one of the hand phasers from it's depths. He set the phaser's beam as narrow as it would go and increased the output. With practiced skill he activated the weapon and cut through the retaining section of conduit. The chunk of duranium clattered to the deck with a heavy thud. Baylon put the phaser on his belt and moved over to the debris. Bending over to grasp the chunk of bulkhead, despite the discomfort it caused him, he dragged the debris to the center of the room. The effort was monumental and took Baylon longer than he would have liked. Already there were ice crystals beginning to form on the horizontal surfaces of the room, and although atmosphere was making it into the room, the heating portion was apparently not functioning. In another couple of minutes, it would be snowing as the water vapor in the atmosphere began to freeze. He stepped back away from his relocation project, drenched in sweat despite the cold and once again pulled the phaser from his belt. He adjusted the setting to a wider beam and pointed the weapon at the newly moved piece of duranium. He fired a beam of phased energy into the bulkhead material. A few seconds of horrid smell pervaded the room as artificial coatings were burned away by the thermal energy of the discharge. Baylon maintained the beam on target, already he could feel the heat coming from the duranium. It was like standing in front of a massive bonfire. He held the beam for roughly a minute and then ceased fire. The duranium did not glow, it had similar properties to aluminum in that it did not, like iron or steel change color or glow as it approached it's melting point. He sat down on the cold floor as close to the newly heated chunk of metal as he dared. It wouldn't keep him warm for long, since Duranium cooled rapidly, but it was better than nothing at all, and if he could just keep it warm enough to prevent frostbite and a frozen death then he'd be happy with that. Harper asked him a bit gruffly. It was apparent that he had been injured, judging from the blood soaked remnants of his uniform trouser leg. "Ensign T’Sol is on her way to the bridge. She’s likely somewhere between decks 5 and 2 by now." The Tellerite wasn’t really sure what else he could say, so he asked, “Can I do anything?” he replied. "Just contact sickbay and get a team down here A-SAP." Weston replied. Grol nodded. "Of course…" The Tellerite turned to head for the door, before he remembered something else. " I'm sorry, sir. I almost forgot. She also told me to advise you that the situation makes you the ranking officer until we can re-establish contact with the bridge. I was told to tell you to secure Main Engineering and coordinate command of the ship from there until you hear from a senior member of the staff, such as the FO or the captain. And to advise you that we do not know if we have been boarded by Romulans and so to treat any orders from the bridge with careful consideration." Grol replied. Seeing the irritated look on Norm's face, Grol quickly shrugged and added, "I'm just a messenger sir. Ensign T'Sol can't reach Lieutenant Trinin, so that makes her de facto security chief...I think?" He looked at the Chief Engineer. "At least she's giving orders like she's in charge," he added. Without much more to say, Grol turned and headed for sickbay. It appeared only natural, given that he had just come from the bridge with orders direct from the first officer. It was then that Jackson turned to Jasn and added, “Honestly Yeoman I am not an Engineer either, but we can try and fix what we can after we rescue Lt Trinin.” “Whatever you say Lieutenant,” started Miller, knowing that it was likely that the life of the security chief was more important than a piece of equipment. Of course the flipside argument would be, the repair of the ship would ensure the safety of the many, rather than the immediate rescue of the few, but then Jason was never much for that kind of philosophy. “OK. Unless anyone has anything further, let's head off to our respective tasks shall we?” Jackson ordered. There was no objection from any of the teams, and soon they split into their two groups and headed off. “I know an access hatch that leads right the way to Deck 7 from here. It’s this way.” Miller indicated back down one of the corridors he had just travelled with Denise. He looked only briefly at Jackson and Lebranski, then Jason headed off down the corridor to find the hatch. As Miller had moved to open the hatch, h was a little surprised to see a phaser pointed right at him. “Woah there,” he reasoned, raising his hands and taking a step back. An extra hand would be good.” Miller didn’t even think about whether the two Lieutenants would object as he stepping into the hatch and began to get himself ready to climb down 5 decks. An extra hand would be good.” "Okay," she said, "I'm glad to help, especially now that I'm out of that turbolift. It's open to vacuum below the emergency hatch. I barely escaped it." So how was it that once again, she was left holding the fort during a major catastrophe? As usual, she began to fuss over everything and everyone. She had an incessant need to micromanage, probably one of the reasons that she hadn’t been offered an ACMO position, and as a result, she was rapidly ticking off the majority of the staff left in sickbay. The signal from Dr. R'Serrot came from section 6 on Deck 5. I have several teams in the area, Sir, one being Lt. Tarus Daban from Security and another with Counselor Nayati. Lt. Jackson is in there somewhere with a group. I am also picking up reports and messages of Lt. Phipps from Operations who is arriving from one of the lower decks, but he has not gotten there yet through the Jeffries tubes. I waiting to hear from an Engineering repair team soon." Cmdr Lemar tapped his commbadge and said, "Bridge to Counselor Nayati and Lieutenant Tarus. Doctor R'Serrot is in section 6 on deck 5. He has located the Captain and requires your immediate assistance. I want you there now." =^= Aye sir, on our way =^= came a monotone response from the security lieutenant. Maraht once again turned his attention to the getting the repair teams to the area. "Maraht to Engineering." (Reply any in Engineering, Nerrah Kusto? Henri Croix? Debbie Weston?) "We have no internal or external sensors showing green up here on the Bridge. I have done what I can here on the bridge with my hardware. Can you get us repairs to our sensory?" (Reply Engineering) "Copy that. Get me a status report ASAP. Coordinate with Lt Tom Jackson who is on Deck 6 with a team. Maraht out." Maraht was disturbed when he heard there was no power in Sickbay. So that was next on his long list. He wished he could be there to fix and assess the situation himself, but until they could get the turbolifts powered back up, he would have to direct repairs from here. ~I will have to make sure I make a shipwide announcement in case there are any crew climbing in the shafts before the lifts are powered back up.~ He shivered at the thought of anyone becoming crushed with a lift. "Lt. Maraht to Engineer Walker." (Reply George Walker) "Engineer Walker, can you get some tools and help to assess and repair damage? I need to have power nodes checked. Sickbay has no power but it could be the same reason why so much power is out all over. Get yourself a team together and see what you can do to start on getting power to main Sickbay. I'll need a status report on those nodes." (Reply George Walker) "Copy that Engineer Walker. You are a blessing. Maraht out." The alarm klaxons were ringing and flashing. "The ship is at Red Alert. Come Shureshlee, I think we need to see what we can accomplish. The Hades needs our help," said Shayhiloosh. "Is there a contingency plan for children in cases like this? Did you have some sort of plan for emergencies that were reviewed in your classes?" "We were to meet up with our teacher in our class room. But I am not sure what happened or if we should go there, Elder Parent." =/\=This is Commander Lemar to all personnel on Decks 1 through 9. Communications have been temporarily restored to the Hades section and both damage control and medical teams are being dispatched.=/\= There was a pause and then the Commander continued. =/\=All personnel, report in to your department heads at once. Lemar out.=/\= Shayhiloosh nodded an eyestalk and tapped hir commbadge with a root tip. "Ensign Shayhiloosh to Lt. Carrow." (Reply Ardena Carrow) "What has happened, Lt. Carrow and how would you have me render assistance? I am presently on Deck 11 with Shureshlee in the Arboretum." (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Main Corridor - Lieutenant Ardena Carrow - 2047.7) "Ensign Shayhiloosh to Lieutenant Carrow." The voice startled her, to say the least. She'd rather forgotten - again - she was a boss. "Ardena here, Shayhiloosh." She replied. "What has happened, Lieutenant Carrow and how would you have me render assistance? I am presently on Deck 11 with Shureshlee in the Arboretum." Now there was a darn good question. "There was some sort of explosion in the power systems, the saucer section was severely damaged. The Captain and Ambassador were near the blast when it happened." What could she put her people to? Scientists dealt with data and experiments, but they were all trained Starfleet personnel, no matter how eccentric. Ops gave them information, scientists made sense of it. "If you can tap into Ops' systems from there, I'd think it'd be best if you coordinate into investigating the readings of the explosions and patterns. Security could probably use the hand in investigation since they're current priority is finding everyone and neutralizing the threats. Engineering probably has records and what they've fixed and how is probably relevant." Finding a saboteur, if there was one.. "I'd imagine that the priorities at hand are aid to injured, prevention of repetition of accident," she'd call it an accident until there was proof otherwise. "And getting back on track to our mission. So, I'd prioritize as.. checking with Sickbay for the teams they have on Deck 11 -" Boy, wouldn't it be nice if they had some sort of coordinator? " - and assist them if necessary. Then evaluate damage and readings." Baylon Trinin - 2048) Baylon had warmed the piece of bulkhead a couple of times over the last few minutes. He was injured worse than he had expected. He could only suspect the worst, since he was fairly certain that he had actually lost consciousness a couple of times in the last few minutes. ~If I can survive the mountain and the Orions, I'll be damned if I'm killed by a few broken ribs and subzero temperatures.~ He told himself. He started awake again, to the sound of voices. Somewhere deep in the back of his mind the primitive part had been paying attention and brought the thinking part back to awareness. =^= ...and medical teams are being dispatched. All personnel, report in to your department heads at once. Lemar out. =^= It was so cold and Baylon was so tired, that it actually took him a few moments to realize that the voice wasn't from a person, but from his commbadge. He moved subtlety, cracking a heavy frost from his uniform shirt in the process. He raised the phaser again and pointed it at the chunk of duranium. He pulled the trigger and instead of the expected phaser discharge there was nothing. The power cells were dead. Baylon glanced back at the weapons locker which now seemed incredibly far away. ~You should have brought a spare power cell.~ he chastised himself. He knew that there would be no way that he would have the strength to make it to the locker now. Already there was a heavy weight on his chest and his breathing was getting more difficult every moment. There was a deep gurgling noise with every breath. It was apparent that he was slowly drowning in his own bodily fluids. He had most likely punctured a lung. maybe it was just hemorrhaging and his lungs were fighting to inflate against the pressure of blood pooling in his abdominal cavity. The means of his death were unimportant. The only thing that he would regret would be Ranae. he would regret not marrying her and siring a dozen children, and maybe settling down on some planet somewhere leaving his adventure days of fighting in partisan and Civil wars far behind him. He started to laugh then. The laugh turned into pained ragged coughs, which spread a slight red bloody pallor across his otherwise gold colored tunic. "I always thought I'd die in a fight," Baylon mumbled. "I never in a million years dreamed it might be an office because of paperwork." There was another quick sputter of pained laughter. More blood on his tunic and on the otherwise white frost that covered the floor of his office. =^=Lieutenant Tarus to Lieutenant Trinin.=^= Baylon snapped his head upwards with enough force to send his head reeling with a wash of vertigo. He instinctively tapped his commbadge. he'd done it so many times that it came to him as second nature. "Here." he replied, keeping his answer short. "Report." Even those two words brought a wracking series of painful coughs. The blood was dripping from the corners of his mouth now, making an oddly beautiful, although macabre splatter pattern. =^=My strike teams are currently searching for the delegation. I’m heading to the VIP quarters right now, while another team is heading to search Ten Forward. What’s your status?=^= ~Nearly dead~ Baylon thought with a dry humor that somehow failed to illicit any laughter from him. "I'm trapped..." more coughing, more blood splatter. "...in my office, there's a breach and it's very cold in here." He said through chattering teeth. His breathing was ragged and painful. Baylon was beginning to wonder if he was beginning to suffer the effects of hypothermia on top of the complications caused by his chest injury. He'd seen it enough times during his brief time on Andoria. The partisans in the resistance trembling themselves to death. Mentally Baylon was trying to go through the symptoms of hypothermia. The only ones he could recall were trembling and problems thinking clearly. He lifted his hand to look at it. It was strangely pale, the result of his body trying to shunt all the blood to the core of his body. It jerked with an almost epileptic spasming. (Posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Main Corridor - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 2048) The deck seemed cold and lifeless. Emergency lights were flickering and sparking of shorted circuitry where everywhere. Tom Jackson sighed. He wasn't the engineer Walker, Harper and the others were but he;d try his best. Ardena asked "Which way gentlemen?" - As Tom considered their options, she literally screamed "Over here guys" - they sprinted to where she was. Seems she discovered an injured fellow crewman. "Ardena, look the crewman over and see what you and the others can do for them OK?" Tom suggested. He knelt near Ardena and handed her a spare First Aid pouch. (reply: any) "Let me know if they can be safely moved OK?" T.J. also asked. He wanted to help the crewman but also needed to get on the rescue of the security chief. (posted by: Bill West) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 13, Shuttlebay – Engineer George Walker – 2048) George had taken to pacing back and forth across the deck while the remainder of the shuttlebay operations and maintenance crew sat watching him. He could swear that at least three of them had made a bet as to how many paces he would make before he finally stopped. =^=Lt. Maraht to Engineer Walker.=^= George paused for just a second before tapping his commbadge and continuing his pacing. "Walker here, Lieutenant. Standing by" "Engineer Walker, can you get some tools and help to assess and repair damage? I need to have power nodes checked. Sickbay has no power but it could be the same reason why so much power is out all over. Get yourself a team together and see what you can do to start on getting power to main Sickbay. I'll need a status report on those nodes." George smiled. He was very glad to be able to actually do something helpful. "I'm on it right away, sir. I'll start with main sickbay and start affecting repairs. I'll have something for you as soon as possible sir." =^=Copy that Engineer Walker. You are a blessing. Maraht out.=^= The commchannel closed and George muttered, "A blessing? Are you freakin' kiddin' me? I've been called a lot of things; scoundrel, hothead, bas-" he paused there for a second before continuing, "but never a freakin' blessing." With a shake of his head he did an about face and headed back over to the crew under his tutelage. "Okay fellas, we got us a job. So grab your repair kits and your tricorders and let's get going." The group looked at him for a moment. Nobody moved. "Maybe I was whispering, because I see that not a single one of you sorry lot have moved." Terrence Dobbs, the senior most man in the group stood up, "Nothing personal, chap, but you ain't an officer. You're just an enlisted playing officer, which is pretty damn pathetic if you ask me." George could feel the anger rising up in his throat. He clenched his fists and took a step forward. "I got orders from Lieutenant Maraht, who says we're to go start on Damage control. So you fellas are goin' to get to doing damage control." "Or what?" Dobbs pushed. "Or, I'll -" George started to reply before Dobbs interrupted him again. "You'll let the Horta on us, Walker? You'll turn lap dog for some lump of rock with a metal voice box and a pair of shiny yellow pips?" He teased. "Oh no." George said clearly. "I'll bring you up on charges." "Charges?" Dobbs replied then chuckled. "Look around Walker, there are six of us and only one of you. Who do you think the Captain is going to believe? Six good crew with clean records or a basket case with delusions of grandeur? It's six against one. Our place is here, this is our battle station, not traipsing around the ship doing damage control. We're not that sort of blokes." George took a look around him then. Each of the other five men just sat there watching the contest of will between Walker and Dobbs. He knew that he'd get no support from any of these men. "Besides," Dobbs added, "The Horta ain't even human." ~Ah so that's the crux of the problem.~ George thought "He's only an officer so that he doesn't have to do any real work and so that it looks like Starfleet is Politically correct." "I could care less if he's a human, a Horta or a piece of bulkhead. Point is he's an officer," George replied. "The sooner you get that into your head the better off you'll be." He turned then and grabbed an engineering kit off the deck and headed for the door. He had just cleared them when he heard footsteps coming up behind him fast. George spun and notice Crewman Kemper coming to a stop. "I'm not with them sir." he said. "I'm just like you. I'm may not always like officers, but Maraht's a good one and if he says go do damage control I'm going to go do damage control." George looked at him for a moment. Then nodded. "Get yourself and engineering kit then Jim. We've got work to do." He had never been good at the ‘comfort’ speech. “There will be a med team to you as soon as they can get there.” Right at that moment, the comm. cut off and another signal came in. =^= Bridge to Counsellor Nayati and Lieutenant Tarus. Doctor R’Serrot is in section 6 on deck 5. He has located the Captain and requires your immediate assistance. I want you there now. =^= Instantly, Tarus was on the move. He had had to wait a while for everyone to catch up, perhaps seeming a little enthusiastic on the physicial exertion part. Jackson didn’t seem to mind, and although Carrow and Ripley didn’t complain, Jason suspected the two weren’t quite cut out for this type of thing. As they all jumped out of the hatch and into the corridor, they stood in a cool and powerless section of corridor. ~Not quite what I had hoped~ thought Jason, walking a few metres in either direction, trying to grasp his bearings. “Which way?” asked Ardena Carrow, looking just as confused about their location as Miller was. Jason saw that there didn’t appear to be any power in either direction, asid from the irregular flicker of emergency lights and forcefields. “Well, I don’t figure we’re too far,” said Miller aloud, deducing that since there appeared to be a lot of damage to this section, it was likely one of the areas breeched by the explosion. (reply: Jackson IYW, Ripley IYW) Miller watched as Ardena had already pulled out her tricorder, and instantly Jason cursed as he had not thought to bring one when he had first left the administration centre. ~I bet Denise has one with her~ Jason thought, smiling at the thought of his smart-alec colleague. He watched her walk off in one direction, nearby to some fallen debris, assumably to see if there was a route through it. As Miller was about start questioning Jackson again, he heard a shout from Ardena, “Guys! Over here!” Miller spun and instantly started to make his way to her location. “I have someone alive!” Ardena had taken a step back, and as Jason arrived at her side, he could see a slowly moving hand under some of the debris. “Tom, give me a hand with this...” started Jason as he crouched down to try and get a hold on a duranium beam that seemed to be the main culprit at trapping the survivor. (reply: Jackson) As the two men struggled against the weight, Jason vowed to dedicate more time to the gym to ‘build-up’. Either that, or he would vow to carry an anti-grav unit at all times for occasion such as this. Somehow, he didn’t think he’d be able to swing the latter passed the FO. ‘Protable AG units’ for all Yeoman, the next step in first aid and assistance. With a final push, Jason showed at the beam and it fell to one side, nearly dragging himself with it. As he struggled to regain his balance, he looked around to see Carrow and Ripley tending to the wounded person. There was rubble and bodies and blood everywhere. Even Jon found himself a little shaken. They saw Dr. R'Serrot with Captain Sash and the Yeoman raced to help. Seeing that Sash had a Doctor and a yeoman to help him, Jon saw an additional aura in the debris. There was one crewman's aura that appeared to indicate that she was still alive. Jon arrived at the location where the burned body of a female Bajoran was partly covered by rubble, deck plating and a mass of wiring. The only good thing about it was that the wiring had no power. Though Jon was not touching the Bajoran, he could telepathically feel the terrible waves of pain emanating from her half conscious mind. Looking around Jon saw a sign indicating Emergency Sickbay. He used the manual release and the door opened. Searching inside the dimly lit sickbay, he found a med kit and a blanket, and returned to the stricken crewman. Jon bent down and began to pull and toss away the wreckage. Thank goodness Jon was from a heavier world where it made his skeletal structure denser and his muscle mass stronger. There was an especially bulky heavy beam that required a lot of strength and leverage to remove. By the time he eliminated the rubble, her aura was dimming. Her breathing was getting more labored. Jon had momentary thoughts about using his skills to block her pain centers, but he was fearful that she would die. She needed first aide first. Reaching out to touch her hand, Jon fought through the waves of excruciating agony. ::Don't give up. Help is here.:: The Bajoran groaned in response. Jon found a name. ::Ensign Jana Corven, you will be all right.:: He flipped open the med kit and gave her some broad spectrum antibiotics and then began using the dermal regenerator on the very worst of her wounds to help control any blood loss. He had worked with much more serious trauma on his homeworld as a tribal Wise Man. He carefully wrapped her in the blanket, and then picked her up easily in his arms, prepared to carry her to get help. It might be a long time before a trauma team could get here. "Dr. R'Serrot, the Emergency Sickbay is down here and is at least fairly intact. There are medical supplies there. We could try to use it until the Turbolifts are functioning again," Jon said. Ana looked down either direction of the hall. "Security is this way. I was just down here earlier today." she said and indicated the direction with a wave of her hand. Ana started walking in the direction of the security offices when the CSO said. "Guys! Over here I have someone alive!” Ana headed back towards the group and arrived just as Jackson and Miller were moving a cross member from the injured body of a female crewman. As soon as the beam was clear, Ana was on her knees beside the wounded woman. Her eyes were looking for obvious deformities such as broken bones and similar. A quick inspection indicted that the woman was suffering from a broken right arm and hip. It was where the beam had struck her. "She's got a broken hip and a broken arm." Ana said. "We need a med kit. See if you can find an emergency equipment locker." she added, suddenly feeling stupid for not grabbing one earlier. She pressed her fingers against the woman's jugular vein. " Pulse is weak." she reported then leaned her ear close to her mouth and nose. "Breathing is shallow. She's in shock, we need to get her someplace warm. We need a medical team to transport her out of here." Fortunately the woman was unconscious, otherwise she would likely worsen just hearing the prognosis. "I'm not really good with this sort of thing. I usually just play gopher when I'm in sickbay and not counseling." Ana said and looked at Carrow apologetically. "Lieutenant?" Windsong-Trommashere – 2050) Angeni stared at the jeffries' tubes, a slight smile on her face. She was almost positive that Wendy had something smart to say about her being up as soon as she was. For all the crap she gave that woman, she couldn't help but think of how wonderful she was as a doctor. She made a mental note to take the doc out for an evening. She jumped into the tube, climbing her way up. She felt like her legs were on fire after only what she could surmise was only a deck or two. She paused for a moment, her calves quivering, but she continued on. The young woman had to stop...again. Something just wasn't right. Every time she touched a rung on the metal ladder, she got a small, almost like static electricity shock. It was more annoying than anything else, but she could only figure that ment there was a wire down, causing the ladder to charge itself like that. She turned to those behind her, running her fingers through her hair. "We have to go back..." She didn't like the idea of sitting in sick bay waiting for everyone to come to her, but for the safety of those around her, she figured it was the best idea. "I think there may be a wire down up ahead. I think it's best that we just stay back in the bay...and wait for them to come to us." She looked at the medics behind her, and she noted the look of dismay on their faces. She knew that feeling all too well. With the adrenalin rush the way it was, to be told to go and wait somewhere wasn't the result they wanted, but they all began making their way back down. She stopped long enough to put a message through to Wendy. =/\="Dr. Kildare...we're making our way back to SickBay. We can't get through these sets of tubes from here. I'll be waiting for any incoming there.=/\= She sighed and popped back out of the tube, taking her dejected comrades back to Sickbay. As they entered, she watched them mill about. Most of the patients they had at the moment were nothing more than minor injuries. Some of the medics took the oppertunity to catch up on past due paperwork in the medic room while others just stood, waiting for their time to mobilize. All Ang could do was make sure that everything was being done efficiently, especially with the limited supplies. Since R'Serrot was a better doctor than John, Jon notified the First Officer, after finding Ensign Jana. "Nayati to Commander Lemar." (Reply Lemar) "Yeoman Lebranski and myself are on Deck 5 with Dr. R'Serrot. We are assisting the doctor with helping the Captain. He is in bad shape." (Reply Lemar) "Aye Sir," responded Nayati, holding Ensign Jana in his arms. "I have another crewman here too, an Engineer. "There is extensive damage and a lot of people are dead here. I am going to look for other survivors. There is an Emergency Sickbay here that may be intact. If it is, I will talk to Doctor R'Serrot and use it for any other survivors we find." (Reply Lemar) Engineer Jana Corvan was sufficiently stable enough for the moment until R'serrot could take a look at her. Jon held her wrapped in the blanket and proceeded to the smaller Emergency Sickbay. Finding it intact but only disheveled, Jon place her on a biobed. He put another blanket over her. "Nayati to Lemar and R'Serrot." (reply Lemar and R'Serrot) "I have confirmed that Emergency Sickbay is intact though it has no power, but it is supplied. The emergency lighting is flickering and dim but we have some in here. The biobeds won't turn on, but it is better than having wounded crew on the floor." Jon went back out to assist Lebranski and R'Serrot in dealing with sash. If they had that situation under control he would try to find any other surviving victims. Ardena Carrow had located a live crew member., pinned by a large beam. "Tom, give me a hand with this..." Jason called. "Ok, Jason" - Tom replied and the two men managed to push the beam off the crewman. "Gawd, that was heavy!" Jackson blurted out. (reply: Any/none) T.J. had grabbed a spare first aid pouch and handed it to Ripley to aid here and Ardena in doing first aid. "Any idea of the extent of injuries? Instantly he dashed toward the wreckage, where he could already see Doctor R’Serrot and Yeoman Lebranski. “If you die, I'm changing your name to Delilah on all forms,” threatened Lebranski, willing the Captain to hold on to his life. “How are we moving him?” she asked, uncertain of how to even start. Tarus propped his plasma rifle against the wall and moved to examine the debris. “Wow, this is a mess,” he started, forgetting that he was speaking out loud. ~What is this, the flash point of this whole thing?~ Peering over some of the fallen beams, Tarus could see that fields were fluctuating all over the place, as if the computer couldn’t work out how to get a steady field without crossing some piece of bulkhead or duranium beam. “We can’t do anything until we can stabilize those fields. Leave that to me.” (Reply R'Serrot IYW) As Lebranski went to get a medical kit, Tarus watched R’Serrot continue to do his best to keep the Captain’s vitals away from the red zone. Things didn’t look good at all. “Go with her,” ordered Tarus, to a member of his team. Without question, the man jogged off after her. A little further down the corridor, Tarus could see Counsellor Nayati shifting some more debris. ~What’s he doing?~ he thought, watching another of his officers move to assist the man. The two remaining security officers walked up to Tarus. “What do you want us to do boss?” “Get your tricorders,” started Tarus, pulling out his own device from his belt. “If we reprogram out tricorders to work as field emitters, we might be able to get the emergency forcefields to stabilise. If we stabilise the field, we might be able to adjust the emitters to push back the field enough to start getting the Captain out of here.” At once, the two security officers set to work. They seemed eager, even quite clear about what they were doing. Once of the officers worked a part-time shift in engineering, so that probably helped a lot. It took only a few minutes for everything to be finished. Lebranski had returned to the Captain’s side with a first aid kit, and Nayati had even managed to locate the access to the emergency sickbay. Things were happening fast, and so far it was all in their favour. The two security officers had positioned their modified tricorders and Tarus was now making the final adjustments to his own, to enable him to adjust the field harmonics manual. Finally finishing his work, he looked up briefly, and at the sight of the two finished security officers, he looked back to his tricorder and tapped in a few commands. The forcefields buzzed and flickered a little, so Tarus tapped another few adjustments into his tricorder. The field buzzed again, and then with a pop the field established itself fully and the flickering stopped entirely. All that remained was a faint fizzling, as the field tried to establish itself around two duranium beams. With a smile, Tarus looked up. ~Step one~ he thought, pleased that his plan was working. He tapped another command into his tricorder and attempted to push the field back away from the debris. Slowly, the field began to move until it lay flush against the hull, in precisely the position the bulkhead would have been prior to the explosion. Tarus made some final adjustments and the field began to expand further, creating a bubble that reached into space and extended around the duranium beams that were protruding beyond the ships breech. The field popped again and with no breaks in the barrier Tarus had finally finished his task. “Well done boss!” said one of the security officers. “Hey, save the congratulations. We’ve still got a Captain to save.” Daban immediately bent down and tried to grab one of the duranium beams. He glanced at the metal bar that had pierced the Captain through the chest, and instantly urgency pumped through his veins. They had very little time, and they needed to get the Captain out 5 minutes ago. With computer systems still not accessible from the bridge, Jonas was having to sort through verbal damage reports of the different sections to the ship. Luckily, it still seemed like aside from the hull breech on deck 5 and adjoining sections, the rest of the ship was OK. The EPS overload had caused some serious trouble, but it was mostly isolated. Just when he was considering checking in with sickbay to find out how things were down there, the comm. system went off again. =^= Nayati to Commander Lemar =^= “Go ahead Counsellor,” started Jonas, shuffling again in his seat and pulling out his dataPADD again, ready to write anything down that he may or may not need. =^= Yeoman Lebranski and myself are on Deck 5 with Dr. R'Serrot. Really, they were just glorified storage closets, scattered about the ship and barely large enough to fit a make-shift biobed with basic functions. “Good, report back when you have something more.” Jonas had barely time to sign off his padd and store his notes when the counsellor was back on the comm. again. “Lemar here,” said Jonas expectantly. =^= I have confirmed that Emergency Sickbay is intact though it has no power, but it is supplied. The emergency lighting is flickering and dim but we have some in here. The biobed won't turn on, but it is better than having wounded crew on the floor =^= “We’ll do what we can from here. Good work Counsellor.” Jonas closed the comm. and began to move out of his seat in Maraht’s direction. Maraht needed no orders as he was straight on the comm. to George Walker, the engineer based in the shuttle bay. Maraht instantly enlisted his assistance to restore power to the emergency sickbay and after a few choice comments, Walker was on his way. “Copy that Engineer Walker. You are a blessing. Maraht out.” Jonas nodded and laced a hand on the rocky surface of the Horta crewman. “Good work. We’ll have the Captain in safe hands in no time at all.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 7, Main Corridor – Yeoman Jason Miller – 2051.5) As Jason regained his balance, he dusted his hands together, getting rid of some of the dirt that had transferred from the duranium beam. “Gawd, that was heavy!" Jackson blurted out. Jason smiled, “Tell me about it” he said, agreeing with the OPS Lieutenant’s assessment. As Jackson grabbed a first aid pouch and handed it to Ripley, she knelt beside the injured crewman. “Any idea of the extent of injuries?” asked Tom, also dropping to his knees to help. “She's got a broken hip and a broken arm.” Ripley started to explain the injuries she could clearly see. “We need a med kit. See if you can find an emergency equipment locker.” she added, turning to indicate to Jackson where she was referring to. It was then that Jackson thrust his first aid kit toward her, already thinking ahead. Ripley quickly checked for a pulse and for breathing, and deduced that her pulse was weak and her breathing was shallow. “...She's in shock; we need to get her someplace warm. We need a medical team to transport her out of here.” While all this was going on, Miller was trying to inspect the debris in a little more detail. There was a clear path through to the corridor beyond, where Ripley had suggested the security offices were located, and Miller even recognised the area a little, despite the terrible lighting and damage. He could even make out the doorway to the Security Chief’s office, blocked by another fallen beam, and no doubt the burning panel beside the door wasn’t helping matters at all. Overhearing the Counsellor he said, “It won’t be easy to get a transporter lock in this area.” “I'm not really good with this sort of thing. I usually just play gopher when I'm in sickbay and not counselling.” Ripley spoke in an apologetic tone that Miller thought was not necessary. She then looked up at Lieutenant Carrow, as if pleading her to do something further. “Ardena, assuming transporters are actually online, can you modify a tricorder to act like a transporter beacon?” Miller was completely unsure of the mechanics, but he quickly bent down and plucked a tricorder out of Tom Jackson’s belt and handed it toward Ardena. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Main Corridor - Lieutenant Ardena Carrow - 2051.7) "I'm not really good with this sort of thing. I usually just play gopher when I'm in sickbay and not counselling." Ripley spoke in an apologetic tone that Miller thought was not necessary. She then looked up at Lieutenant Carrow, as if pleading her to do something further. Ardena wasn't sure what she could do, really. She knew her own physiology by necessity since no hybrid was the same as all others, but .. She didn't know where to start beyond basic first aid, and the counsellor had that well in hand. Fortunately, Jason saved her from having to answer. "Ardena, assuming transporters are actually online, can you modify a tricorder to act like a transporter beacon?" The First Officer's Yeoman asked. "Uh." She looked at the standard issue tricorder doubtfully and then brightened. THIS was something she could actually help with! "No! But what we can do is get exact coordinates to the seventh place, measure for wide pick-up and clear all unnecessary debris and matter. Engineering can just do a matter pick up from that location and relocate. Either to the transporter pad, or sickbay if they have the relevant coordinates." It wasn't just a matter of location within ship, it was a matter of location within ship and the location of everything, and everyone, else. Moving matter made site-to-site a difficult and chancy practice at best. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Corridor – ACMO Dr. Wendy Kildare – 2052) With a spurt of enthusiasm, Kenny dashed off in pursuit of life signs that he had detected. Instantly, Wendy hoped that the green Ensign would be able to handle what a situation like this might thrown at them. He was fresh out of the academy and likely hadn’t seen more than a handful of scratches, cuts, and bruises. He wasn’t fully trained for this, and she hoped that things weren’t bout to get out of hand – for both the Ensign and the crew on this deck. As she dashed off after him, a nurse on her heels, they quickly caught up in time to see Kenny stopped and staring at his tricorder. “I'm detecting two individual body heat signatures up ahead...” He then turned to look at her and said, “But only one life sign.” Instantly Wendy was hit with a protective feeling, and she wanted to drag the Ensign away so she could handle it for him. As it was, he had already seen too much, his own curiosity getting the better of him. Before she could say a word he had headed off again toward the area where he had detected the singular life sign. As Wendy arrived on scene she noticed two officers had been present, although only one, a Bajoran female, seemed to be alive – barely. Kenny had already approached the Bajoran officer, who Wendy recognised as a woman from the engineering alpha shift, and was beginning to scan her more thoroughly with his tricorder. He then turned to Wendy and nodded, and Wendy indicated for the nurse to go to work and do her best to treat her. Wendy moved forward, trying to get to the other body in time, but Kenny had already turned his attention to it, and his face turned to one of sheer horror. The body showed signed of severe burns, and there appeared to be very little left of her head, aside from a charred skeletal structure. It truly appeared to be like something out of a horror movie, and although Wendy hadn’t seen anything like this before, she was prepared and experienced enough to handle it. The same was not so true of Ensign McKenzie, who by now had turned away with a look of despair in his face. “Kenny, there is nothing we could have done,” said Wendy in her most calming voice. She approached the Ensign to touch him softly on the shoulder. Her touch seemed only to break down his struggling emotions as he whispered to her, “She...I think her head was inside the panel when it...exploded. I'm...surprised that her upper body is...still there.” Then he turned away from her and took a deep breath and she saw him clench his fists. She looked at him, two thoughts in her mind. The ranking officer in her wanted to tell the Ensign to get a grip of himself, to get control so they could save some more lives. But the doctor and mothering instinct in her simply wanted to hold him and take his pain away. That side of her felt no one should have to see this, especially not on their first day. Seeing the man was clearly upset, she decided to lead him back into the corridor and away from the Nurse, who was treating the Bajoran. She looked over her shoulder at the corpse, knowing that something should really be done about it, but right now the ship was on high alert. It was a sad fact, but bodies would have to wait until this was over before they were moved. As Wendy allowed the Ensign to take a few steps further away – sensing he wanted a few moments to himself – she turned to check her own tricorder. There were move life signs not far from here, and Wendy was certain they were close to some of the science labs here. ~Maybe I can leave Kenny with some of his kin~ she thought, not certain if he was up to the task of continuing alongside her. =^= Dr. Kildare...we're making our way back to Sickbay. We can't get through these sets of tubes from here. I'll be waiting for any incoming there =^= The comm. signal was quiet and oh so brief. Wendy recognised it to be the CMO, Angeni Trommashere. She resisted the urge to reply with ‘Good’, but it was her true thoughts. She understood all too well what Angeni must be going through – thought of being stuck in one place and waiting for the sick to come to you, knowing that not far away there were many others that couldn’t move and needed you. That said, Angeni needed to be in sickbay. Hopefully, Leticia Ru’nat could keep her there this time. As the nurse came back into the corridor she said, “She’ll be fine. I’ve freed her arm and leg and she’s going to make her way to the access hatch. I’ve told her to wait out in the open.” With a nod of concurrence, Wendy said “Good call.” Then she looked over at Kenny McKenzie and said, “Come on Ensign. I think these other life-signs are in the astrometrics section.” She began to walk down the corridor to where she figured the main doors to the room that house the lifesigns was. As she arrived at the location, she opened the door. As with the hatch earlier, it opened only an inch, so Wendy had to try and force the door open. “Hopefully, this leads to the upper section of the Astrometrics lab. We might be able to climb down a little from here...” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 6, Astrometrics Lab - Science Officer Harry Doorman - 2052.5) Harry had tried to get the door to the astrometrics lab open. He and Cameron had wedged a piece of metal between the door halves and had levered it open. They had to abandon the effort however, when they saw the three or four live conduits, shooting plasma parks across the decking as they shorted out. "Well, at least we now know why the labs have no power." Bailey said, trying to stay positive. Harry just nodded. "Yes I suppose you're right." "What about the upper deck?" Cameron asked. "We'd never get Doctor Kirschhoff up the ladder, and the lift is out." Harry replied shaking his head. "No someone needs to go for help." "I'll go." Bailey offered. "You'd better stay, your injured and you may have to climb up or down a deck or two. You're not exactly at peak." Cameron replied. "Good point. " Bailey replied. Cameron and Bailey looked at Harry. He knew what they were saying, they were just waiting for him to volunteer. "Okay, then I'll go." Harry said and could almost see the relief in their faces. Here they felt safe. Out there they had no idea what they might find. Harry turned and headed towards the ladder. He started climbing it and reached the upper deck with ease. "Do take too long, Harry." Cameron said. Harry didn't bother to answer instead he worked the manual hatch to the stellar cartography lab. He pushed the doors far enough apart to allow him to slip between them. The twin beams of his hand torch sent a strange play of shadows across the room as he moved across the room. Her had just reached the doors to allow him to exit the room when they suddenly moved. Harry doused his hand torch so that he wouldn't blind anyone by shining it directly into anyone's eyes. "Hopefully, this leads to the upper section of the Astrometrics lab. We might be able to climb down a little from here…" he could hear from the other side. Harry walked forward placed his hands between the doors and added his strength to the effort. The door slid open easily under the efforts of three people and harry stood there hand shielding his face as someone shined a torch in it. "Ummm… hello," Harry said as he squinted into the harsh light. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Corridor – ACMO Dr. Wendy Kildare – 2053) As Wendy tried to pull the door open, she had little luck on her own. “Give me a hand here Kenny,” she started, looking over her shoulder at the new science officer she had drafted into her medical team. The Ensign still seemed a little shaky, but she hoped that he would focus on their new task and not think about the images of the dead crewman they had found minutes ago. (reply: McKenzie) The door opened a little more, but not a great deal. “Bah,” she said, giving up with the door. Instead, she shined her torch through the crack to see what she could see. ~Maybe something had blocked it from the other side~ she thought, not certain how that could help them, since they were stuck in the corridor. What she caught a glimpse of was a squinting man. “Um...hello?” he said, trying to block the light from his face. Wendy immediately shone her flashlight to the floor. “Harry?” she said, surprised that it was he who she had been detecting with her tricorder. “Harry, are you alright? Are you injured?” She was both pleased to see him, but also concerned that another of her closer friends might have been hurt. The two had gotten to know each other a few weeks ago during the party at the Lebranski home on Earth. Harry had gotten on stage with her Jonas, and the two had played music with band. (reply: Doorman) “Listen, we’re no use to anyone while we’re stuck out here. Can you help us get the door open enough to squeeze through?” Wendy wasn’t certain what was blocking the door. There didn’t seem to be much damage to the bulkheads on the corridor side, but perhaps there was something Harry could do from the inside. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 5, Astrometrics Lab - Science Officer Harry Doorman - 2053.5) Wendy immediately shone her flashlight to the floor. “Harry?” she said, a little surprised “Harry, are you alright? Are you injured?” Harry dropped his hand from his face as the light moved away. "I'm fine, just a few bumps and scrapes. I've three survivors on the lower deck. Cameron, Bailey and Doctor Kirschhoff. Cameron's not hurt either, Bailey has a broken arm and Kirschhoff is bleeding bad, she was hit by an exploding console." he explained so that Wendy would understand the urgency. "I can't get the lower doors open and we can't move Kirschhoff up the ladder without fear of making her worse." “Listen, we’re no use to anyone while we’re stuck out here. Can you help us get the door open enough to squeeze through?” "Yeah, sure." Harry said. He stepped back and flipped on his hand torch and scanned the outer edges of the doorway. His eyes came to rest on a bulge over the left most door, it looked as if something inside the railings had bulged and jammed the mechanism. "Okay, I think I see the problem. There's some sort of rod sticking out of the runner on the left side. Let me see if I can get it loose." Harry stepped over to the rod and grabbed it in both hands he tried working it up and down, but it was pretty firmly wedged. He stopped and looked a round the room for a moment, then said, "Be right back." Harry turned away from the door and moved into the room, where a few meters of conduit lay broken on the floor. He selected a fairly rigid piece roughly a meter in length and pulled it loose. He then pulled the inert wiring out of the housing. A few moments later he had a meter-long empty tube that he could use for leverage. Harry returned to the door and wedged the tube between the two sides. There wasn't much of the rod wedging the door, if he could apply enough pressure, he could force the tube back inside and the door might come free. "Stand Back." harry said as he pulled with all his might. At first the door didn't move at all, then suddenly it roe free as the rod was forced out of the runner and back inside the bulkhead. The doors slid open under the weight and Harry landed unceremoniously on his bottom on the deck. The door was open enough to walk through and the only thing that had been hurt was Harry's pride. Where the hell is Brianna Frazier? I have hardly seen the other two aides since that disastrous meeting.~ Jon knew he could contact Ms. Frazier telepathically. Feeling more uncomfortable about the other two diplomatic aides, he thought it best to not speak to her over an open commbadge link. He was concerned for her safety. The first thing that Miller noticed was an eerie chill in the air. It was clear that there was a malfunction in the environmental systems here. Either that, or there was an unsealed breach somewhere. Hell, it could be both with the damage to this section. Miller’s first thought was to extinguish the fire in the circuitry of the panel to the side of the door. Looking around for something to use, he managed to find a small canister of fire suppressant in a nearby emergency hatch. Then, the turned to Jackson and said, “So, what now boss?” Jackson thought for a moment and decided that he was going to try to adjust the emergency force fields in this area. It sounded like a good idea and would ensure that the immediate danger that Lieutenant Trinin was in might be averted, so they could find a way to safely enter the offices. “So, what’s our first move?” Jason had asked, and Jackson’s response had been to first contact the security chief to make sure they had time to carry out their plan. “Lt Jackson to Lt Trinin - come in” said Tom Jackson, hitting his comm. badge lightly and awaited the response from the Chief. (reply: Trinin) “Baylon, Tom Jackson here” he said in response. “We are just outside the doors to your area. Can you tell me your status?” Jackson asked. (reply: Trinin) Tom was clearly concerned for the security chief, as were they all. They would have to act fast if they were to aid the security chief in time. As Miller moved to retrieve the tricorder back from Lieutenant Carrow, Jackson said, “OK, hang on - we're about to attempt to get you out.” With that, he gave a nod in Millers direction and the two set to work. Miller handed the tricorder back to Jackson and pulled a torch out of his pocket, shining it into the access panel to allow Jackson the light to work. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Ten-Forward – Ambassadors Aide Brianna Frazier – 2056) Brianna Frazier was not shaken at all by this turn of events. Perhaps it was her Starfleet training, but she knew that professionals were on the job and they would have things fixed in no time at all. Of course, she had been thinking that very thought for the past forty minutes and aside from an announcement from Commander Lemar, little else had happened to remedy the situation. All that aside, things weren’t actually too bad where she was, sat at a table in the large bay window of ten forward, gazing into the stars. She had hardly noticed when the room had been plunged into darkness, and although she had vaguely been aware of the rumbling of the deck at some not too long ago, she had thought nothing of it until the red alert klaxons had sounded. Getting up to leave the ten-forward section, the bar tender had advised her to stay put. And seeing as leave ten forward to go to her quarters might cause a hindrance to those crewman that needed to get about, she had agreed. The only bad thing about her situation was that the replicators were now offline for some reason or another, so she was trying to make her last drink last as long as she possibly could. 10 minutes earlier a team of four security officers had raced into the room and startled Bree a little. ‘We’re here to protect you ma’am’ they had said. ‘Protect me from what?’ she had asked, to which the security officer simply replied, ‘Erm, I don’t know yet, ma’am’. The whole situation was starting to get a little confusing, and there was clearly some sort of emergency going on, so Bree had decided to stay put and continue to sip at her drink. Suddenly, a concern finally found its way to her mind. They had dropped out of warp some time ago, and at the time Bree hadn’t thought anything of it – the change in the starscape was quite calming – but f they remained out of warp for too long, wouldn’t they be late for schedule on Romulus? Brianna had no clue how the Romulans might react to such a breech in their so-called instructions, but according to Nolan the diplomat on Nelvana had been quite plain that any deviation would be met with dire consequences. The question was, did this count as a deviation? Just then, her own thoughts were pushed aside by a voice in her head. ::Brianna Frazier, are you all right? Where are you and do you need assistance?:: At first, she did not recognise the voice, but as she studied it more closely, she could sense a warm to it that reminded her of one person. ::Jon Nayati?:: she queried, only briefly before adding, ::I am fine. I am in ten-forward with a security escort for my protection, although protection from what I don’t know:: ::What is the your status and the rest of the delegation? If there is a problem, tell me this way as opposed to over a commbadge.:: replied Jon, an urgency to his voice now that had not been there initially. Instantly she grew concerned. ~Where is Jon~ she thought, ~What’s happeneing?~ she pondered before returning ::Paris is here, but I have not seen Raizel all evening. What’s going on Jon? Have you seen Jericho?:: ::Can you make your way to the Deck 5 Emergency Sickbay or should someone help you?:: asked Jon to her mind. ~Emergency sickbay?~ she thought, growing more and more concerned by the minute. ::I am sure I can. See if you can find Jericho Jon, you’ve got me worried now.:: Frazier stood up at once, almost knocking her glass to the floor as the table shook. She began to storm toward the doorway but was soon blocked by a security guard. “Sorry ma’am. You need to stay put.” Frazier was beginning to get frustrated. “For starters, stop calling me ma’am. I’m still a young woman you know. When I’m in my forties, then you can call me ma’am.” The security officer looked a little bewildered, unsure of how to react to the statement, so instead Bree decided to shove him out of her way, “I need to get to deck 5 emergency sickbay. Jon Nayati needs me there,” ~for some reason~. “Miss Frazier, you need to stay here. It’s not safe down on deck 5.” The security officer moved again to block her path, this time standing squarely in front of the door. Frazier took a step back and regarded the officer curiously. “What do you mean? What’s happened on Deck 5?” The security officer looked to one side at once of his colleagues. The other officer simply shrugged and gave him a nod. The officer blocking the doorway looked back at Frazier and replied, “There’s been some kind of explosion on deck 5 Miss. Lieutenant Tarus has as a team there to investigate and look for the injured.” ~Explosion?~ she thought, turning away from the door with a look of sorrow on her face. She knew that Nolan was in his quarters, had been waiting for them to cross the border so he could go to the bridge. ~Oh I do hope that Jon finds Jericho. He must!~ Bree returned to her table and slumped heavily into the seat. It seemed she was going nowhere anytime soon. She picked up her now empty glass and wished for the replicators to suddenly come online. She really needed a drink! Don't drop it." George added as Kemper nearly dropped the coupler. Only narrowly catching it at the last second." "Here you go." the crewman said as he held the heavy assembly over his head so that George, who was partially ensconced on a vertical access ladder, could reach it. The senior engineer grabbed the assembly in his left hand and heaved it up to his chest. With practiced precision he then rotated his hand and pushed the assembly upward into position. The magnetic clamp grabbed the assembly and it snapped into place. Now that the hardest part was finished, all he had top do was splice in the EPS taps and have someone turn the power back on. He was working on tying in the last of the EPS power taps, when there was a sudden hum. "Holy…" George muttered and tried to get out of the way. The engineer, buckled his knees and allowed gravity to drop him to the deck and out of the way of the vertical support tube, which was now alive with wildly arcing plasma streams. If he had waited one millisecond longer he would have been fried. "Holy s**t, George!" Kemper said as he helped the other engineer to his feet., "are you alright?" "Just fine. " George said as he looked back up the access tunnel. "Cut the power on the bus will you?" George said, "Its third one on the left side, fifth one down." As Jim Kemper went to pull the appropriate isolinear chip, George watched the plasma streams arc against the inside of the tunnel, that's when it hit him. "Jim wait don't touch…" there was an explosion of sparks as Jim Kemper flew backwards from the bus and slammed into the opposing bulkhead. George was beside him in an instant, but he could tell that Crewman Jim Kemper was already dead. The power flow in the tunnel continued unimpeded. George looked down at the isolinear chip in Kemper's cooling hand. He took it and gave it a good once over. The chip was untouched. It should have been burned through when the overload happened the first time. That's what the bus chip was designed for. To cut the power flow and prevent the node from overloading. ~That means…~ George tapped his commbadge. "Walker to Lieutenant Maraht. Cut the power to the Hades section right away or you're going to have another explosion. Someone has by-passed the flow regulator buses to the power nodes, then shunted a pulse through them. That's why the system failed." (reply Maraht) "I have the proof in my hand, sir. It's a perfectly intact flow regulator fuse chip that isn't blown. It was located upstream from a burned out node conduit assembly which failed because it received too much power. We've been sabotaged." Cut the power to the Hades section right away or you're going to have another explosion. Someone has by-passed the flow regulator buses to the power nodes, then shunted a pulse through them. That's why the system failed.=/\= A shudder went through Maraht. ~Great Lava, Mother of us all! ~"How do you know this Engineer Walker? Can you verify this with hard evidence?" =/\=I have the proof in my hand, sir. It's a perfectly intact flow regulator fuse chip that isn't blown. It was located upstream from a burned out node conduit assembly which failed because it received too much power. We've been sabotaged.=/\= "Copy that Engineer Walker. Just a moment," said Maraht. Maraht turned his speaker grill slightly toward Jonas Lemar, unsure that he should cut the power to the whole saucer section, especially with Baylon Trinin stuck in his office with nothing but a force field to protect him from the void of space. He needed the input from the Command staff to do something so drastic. "Commander Lemar, do I cut the power to all the nodes in the saucer section?" (Reply Jonas Lemar) "We could evacuate and jettison the saucer. But what about Lt. Trinin? I do not know if we could get the seriously wounded out without the turbolifts." ~And I would be trapped here unless I chew my way through a bulkhead.~ Maraht did not dare to voice that thought and dismissed it from his mind. There was no need to panic about that situation unless it happened. ~Then I can panic like crazy,~ Maraht thought dryly. He sternly focused on the Commander's answer. (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2107) As Jonas ran through the ships systems with Ammon, Jonas was glad that they seemed to be finally overcoming this little problem and getting somewhere close to back on track. And just then, as if someone were playing a cruel joke, it started to go wrong again. =/\=Walker to Lieutenant Maraht. Cut the power to the Hades section right away or you're going to have another explosion. Someone has by-passed the flow regulator buses to the power nodes, then shunted a pulse through them. That's why the system failed.=/\= The OPS lieutenant seemed to pause, almost like he could not believe what they had heard. “How do you know this Engineer Walker? Can you verify this with hard evidence?” =/\=I have the proof in my hand, sir. It's a perfectly intact flow regulator fuse chip that isn't blown. It was located upstream from a burned out node conduit assembly which failed because it received too much power. We've been sabotaged.=/\= "Copy that Engineer Walker. Just a moment," said Maraht. Maraht then turned his speaker grill slightly toward Jonas “Commander Lemar, do I cut the power to all the nodes in the saucer section?” ~Just great!~ Lemar put a hand to his forehead and began to rub at his temples hard. “We’ve only just restored the power! Give me another option!” Jonas really didn’t like the idea of sending everyone back to emergency power. Little did he know that what the Horta OPS officer was about to suggest as an alternative was little more than a joke. “We could evacuate and jettison the saucer. But what about Lt. Trinin? I do not know if we could get the seriously wounded out without the turbolifts.” Maraht spoke, and he even sounded serious as he did so. Jonas suspected that Horta’s had a very different type of humor than most, and this just wasn’t it. “Not the sort of option I was looking for Lieutenant!” With a heavy sigh he turned on his heal and sat back in the command seat. As he began to input his command codes he said, “Computer, shut down all power nodes on decks 1 through 9.” [Action is not advised. Command Authorization required!] ~What, the computer is telling me what to do now?~ Jonas shook his head and with a heavy frown he said, “Command authorization Lemar Seven-Two-Lima-Charlie-Six” The computer chirped an acknowledgement and moments later they were plunged into darkness once more. As the hum of the computers died away, emergency lighting slowly flickered back on. “Engineer Walker, you better be right about this one. I want this fixed right away.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== End Compile =====================================================================
