With a pleased smile and a nod, he let his team known how impressed he was with their rapid arrival. ~If the Waagoshin board this ship, they'll have a nasty surprise waiting for them.~ he thought. Of course Baylon knew that having double the number of security teams ready at this time was a boon to response times as well. "Stand easy everyone." he ordered as he stepped into the room. "Okay, you all know why you're here. In a few minutes, The Waagoshin officers sent over for the exchange will be transporting over. While I do not trust them in the slightest, I am obligated to give them the benefit of the doubt. That said, you will not use your phasers unless the Waagoshin threaten us with imminent injury. I expect diplomacy at all times, but stay focused." "Sir request permission to speak." Ensign Laredo said. "Granted." Baylon replied. "May I ask how many of them will be coming aboard and what our exact orders are, sir?" Baylon nodded, " I was just about to get to that, Ensign. We have sent eight officers over to the Waagoshin facility. They are sending the same number here. We will be escorting them to the Observation lounge, off of deck 1. Once we've reached there, Ensigns Carmichael and Vilna will remain as an honor guard at the doors. Everyone else will standby in corridor three near the first officer's office until such time as you are needed. Phasers are to remain set to heavy stun and stay holstered unless needed." He looked at each of the other officers in turn. "Any other questions?" As there were none. Baylon then turned to face the Transporter chief. "Do we have their coordinates yet?" "Yes, sir. They were just sent a moment ago. But the Bridge is reporting that they have requested and been granted a delay in the officer exchange." "Any idea how long?" Baylon asked. "They'll be beaming over at 1725 hours sir." Baylon sighed then turned to his team. "Alright everyone, we're going to satnd down. I want everyone back here ready to receive our guests at 1720 hours. Dismissed." As his security detail went back to other duties, baylon turned to look at the transporter chief. "I'll be on the bridge. Let me know if anything changes again." The chief nodded and Baylon exited the transporter room on his way to the bridge. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Observation Lounge - aCEO Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1654) Darla stepped into the Observation lounge carrying a PADD that contained the latest data on the Waagoshin vessel. Indications were growing more and more apparent that the Waagoshin were a scavenger species. But that she meant that they scavenged or stole technology from other, usually more advanced species, and utilized it in their everyday applications. Of the technology that they had managed to identify, the Fractal geometry equipment seemed the most advanced. There were various components on the ship that Darla suspected came from various other species. The divergence in technology indicated a likely chance that the Waagoshin had made contact with at least six or seven distinct technology groups, none of which were easily derived from the other. The power network seemed to be stable, and was miraculously flexible considering the wide variety of equipment that it was running. It seemed the Waagoshin had a talent for making existing technology work for them, even if they didn't understand the basic principles or science that they used. ~Eventually their technological society will collapse.~ Darla thought as she took her seat. ~They'll either be unable to modify or repair their stolen technology or they'll get a hold of something that will bite them.~ She noted the captain and the CMO chatting near the windows, so she declined bothering them. ~Besides,~ she thought, ~most of this is just a really good educated guess. I won't know for sure unless I can get a good look at their hardware.~ She continued to study her data until the Waagoshin arrived. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, FO Commander Eva Straton, 1655) It had taken several hours before the Waagoshin signaled that they were ready for the Hades to continue deeper into the Tch'Kairn system. It appeared that they had cleared out all other ship traffic in the system giving priority to the Hades and Graelridge. Sitting at the outer reaches of the system for the last several hours had given them plenty of time to take detailed scans of the system itself while also taking careful note ofeach and every ship leaving the system along with it's speed and heading. Captain Sash had just concluded his discussion with the commander of the Waagoshin and an Away Team had been authorized for a face to face meeting. As the channel closed Sash turned to Eva and nodded. Eva rose from her seat and returned the nod. "Ensign's Ripley, Parker, T'Vof, Walsh, Mac Liam, and McKenzie report to Transporter Room 2 in 10 minutes for Away Team detail. Mr. Walsh bring a small security detail with you," Eva said after tapping her com-badge as she strode quickly toward the turbo-lift. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1656) "Ensign's Ripley, Parker, T'Vof, Walsh, Mac Liam, and McKenzie report to Transporter Room 2 in 10 minutes for Away Team detail. Mr. Walsh bring a small security detail with you," was barked over the comm at Lo'ren - even though she could hear the commander clearly on the bridge. Lo'ren glanced up as the statuesc officer strode towards the turbolift. She quickly secured her own console and called up another tactical officer to back up Lt. Trinin and strode after Straton, having to practically run to catch the taller woman before the 'lift door closed. "Yes, Ma'am." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Observation Lounge - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere- 1657) Angeni walked into the observation lounge, and she smiled gently at her Captain. She walked up to him, extending her hand to him. "Captain Sash, it's a pleasure as always, how have you been?" (Reply Sash) Angeni nodded, then she reached into her lab coat, pulling out the container of drops, and she extended the box to him. "I remembered you liking them, and I would not be playing nicely if I kept them to myself." She gave him another smile and sat down, setting the box down on the table as she popped one from her pocket into her mouth. She let the drop melt slowly in her mouth as she looked out the windows, a serene smile on her face. "I can never get used to the sight of the stars. Beautiful, aren't they sir?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, FO Commander Eva Straton, 1657) Eva entered the room and took a phaser and tricorder from the equipment locker. After checking both to make sure both were fully charged and properly calibrated she holstered both and waited for the rest of the Away Team to assemble. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof 1657.5) Following the FO, Lo'ren snagged her own phaser and tricorder and attached them to her uniform. She felt a distinct desire for her mek'leth, but pushed it aside feeling it might be overkill to head over on diplomatic terms and show up with a weapon. ~Then again, Mutt... the show of strength might not be a bad idea with these dogs.~ Lo'ren took a place on the transporter pad and faced outwards, waiting for Straton's signal as the rest of the away team filed in one by one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh, 1658) Walsh entered the Transporter Room with his 3-man security detail in tow. He had chosen two men and one woman--Ensigns Rush, Marcus and Vaargus. They had shown exemplary combat skill during the simulations, and he was confidant they would do well in the situation they were about to face. They equipped themselves with tricorders and phasers from the weapons locker, and stepped onto the transporter pad, Walsh nodding to Straton as he stepped onto the pad. "Sir." He turned to his team. "Check your equipment. We aren't looking for a fight, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be prepared. Keep your trigger fingers at bay." They nodded, Walsh waited on the pad for the rest of the away team to move in. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker, 1658.5) It must have been some kind of record time. Haywood had managed to jog to sick bay, grap a tricorder with a periferal and a med kit, just in case. ~So much for being off duty,~ he thought cheerily to himself as he strode through the doors of the transporter room. He nodded to Lo'ren and Straton with a smile and turned around just in time to see Eoin enter the room. Surprised to find his heart beating somewhere in his throat, Haywood began to tap the toe of his right boot on the floor in anticipation. "Ready for this?" Eoin asked with a smile similar to the one Haywood had just given. "I hope so," He answered, masking his anxiousness behind an unwavering voice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, CCOUNS- Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1659) Ana had listened carefully to everything that had been said between Captain Sash and the Waagoshin Commander in the system. The tones used between the two dominate males had not been particularly base or brutal, but there had been a few times where Ana could almost imagine the increased production of testosterone that they were both producing in preparation for some sort of primal confrontation. Still her observation wasn't solid enough to merit a comment from her on the subject. It would require a bit more observation before she would be able to confirm anything like that. And again, it wasn't anything unusual to have a dominate personality in command of a star base or a star ship, and so some natural tension would always be present when such individuals interacted. She had been pleased that the Waagoshin commander had chosen to allow a face-to-face with the away team. The counselor had at first harbored an unwarranted fear that the Waagoshin would simply turn them around and send them home, or worse, order them to surrender their ship. As captain Sash had seen no problems with sending an away team over to the ship, she chose to relax for a few moments and consider that the man was a warrior and that his instincts had proven right time-and-time again. If he felt safe sending an away team over, shouldn't she? Ana stepped into the transporter room, still surprised that she had been selected to go on an away mission. Despite the time that she had served in the fleet, she had not yet been of the ship in that capacity. Sure, she had seen other worlds, and she had served in other stations, but the Nimitz had been her first starship posting and it had been destroyed before she had managed to get assigned on an away mission. After that she had spent her time on the Hades, again never being selected for an away mission until now. She took a good look around at the personnel that were gathering for the mission. She felt fairly safe with four members of the ships security team present as well as a prior Marine MCO. When you added to that the Stalwart additions of Ensign T'Vof, who had been toughened up as a result of her time on Bajor, and a medic and a science and engineering officer, she was in good company. So why was she so damned nervous? She stepped over to the table and picked up a tricorder. She frowned at the hand phasers and purposefully selected not to take one. With a smile, she stepped up onto the transporter Platform near the security detail and settled into place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Transporter Room 2 - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 1700) Eoin stepped through the doors of the transporter room, his belt slung with a couple engineer's tools that he might need. ~You never know when there might be something to fix,~ he thought to himself. Though he knew that he would probably not need them, he decided he'd rather be safe than sorry. He looked around, and noticed he wasn't the first one there. Commander Straton, Counselor Ripley and Ensign Walsh were already there, as well as two security guards that he didn't recognise. He stepped over to the table, and grabbed a phaser and tricorder, slinging them in his belt along with the tools already there. Then, he stepped up onto the transporter pad. He breathed in and out once, and smiled, looking around at the other people on the team. "Ready for this?" he asked of them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, FO Commander Eva Straton, 1702) Once the entire Away Team was assembled and on the transporter pads ready to go before turning to address them. "Alright people," She said, standing at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the transporter pads. "We will be transporting over to the Waagoshin station in an exchange of officers. I'm certain they are up to something so everyone remain alert and keep your eyes and ears open. Ensign Ripley, I want you to be paying attention to building a more complete psychological profile from first hand observations. I will provide an empathic report upon our return to the ship if you wish. McKenzie and MacLiam, I want both of you to be paying close attention to the technology that we see over there. We need to know if the Waagoshin indeed have been stealing technology from other races, so keep an eye open to detail. Anything you can garner could prove invaluable. I doubt they will give us free access to the station or their system, so you will have to be creative. Ensign T'Vof, you will be assessing their tactical capabilities as best you can without letting them know that is what you are doing. Ensign Walsh you or a member of your security team will accompany each member of the away team should we become separated for any reason. No one is to be left alone on the station. Ensign Parker, see if you can get some detailed medical scans of the Waagoshin so we have a better idea of the physiology. Lastly, to our best knowledge the Waagoshin are not telepathic. Should you need to contact me in an emergency situation, and the use of the comm is not an option, think my name as loudly as you can and I will contact you. Are there any questions?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof, 1703) Lo'ren listened as Straton gave them each assignments and nodded accordingly. She waited until Straton had finished and piped up, "Commander, would it be prudent to set my tricorder to passive scanning? I can glean a fair bit visually, but the 'corder telemetry would be highly useful - unless you feel it's too high a risk that the Waagoshin will detect that?" (reply Straton) Lo'ren waited and took note of other instructions to the team. Once the parlay was over Straton took her place on the pad and Lo'ren waited for the gentle hug of the transporter beam to whisk them away. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room Two, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 17:04 hours.) As Kenny listened to Commander Straton, he could not help but feel nervous. he did not trust the Wagoshiin and he doubted that anyone did. It was something about the messages that were sent to them, the way they spoke over the COMM, that they were hiding something from them. He could not help but think of the Wagoshiin as nothing but typical predatorily beasts, but with the ability to fly in space. By, God, he hoped he was wrong. The last thing the Federation needed was another enemy. Then again, one comforting thought was that, if something did go wrong, they would find the Hades, and indeed, the Federation, a powerful foe. But something told Kenny that might be what they were looking for. It would be no comfort to him if he was dead, though. After the Commander finished, Kenny spoke up. "Yes, Commander, I have a question." Kenny said, and tried to suppress a whelp as the Commanders cold hard eyes were fixed on him. Something about that stare was off-putting, like a predator looking at it's next pray. He knew that the Wagoshiin were getting to him already. "I...uhh... have no experience with telepathic or empathic races, but I was under the impression that only your type could read out minds, but that we, as in, non-telepaths, don't have the abilty to... 'Call on you', as it were, using our minds. We just... Think of you if we need you?" He hoped she understood the question. he had a little trouble wording it. He had never thought such a thing was possible, being able to call on a telepath or empathic if you yourself are not one of them, so he was confused. Still, better to find out now in case they needed it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, COUNS- Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1705) The rest of the team arrived and everyone of them picked up a phaser and/or a tricorder from the mission storage locker. Ana didn't have to be a trained psychiatrist to see that there were a few members of the away team that either feared or expected the worst. In a way she was one of them. Her clinical experience and skill with reading body language had served her well, even with non-human species. She had no reason to think that her instincts were wrong at this stage of the game. She also couldn't help but notice that she was the only member of the away team, at least as far as she could tell, that was not carrying a phaser. Of course, that was part of the calculated risk that she had been considering since they had first met the Graelridge. And just because she wasn't armed with an energy weapon did not make her helpless. If anything she hoped that it would cause the Waagoshin to underestimate her ability to defend herself if it should come down to a fight. Her Father was one of the few Master practitioners of Kalarippayattu, Silambam and Marmam. Long considered the most ancient of all of Earth's original regimented Martial Arts. She had been raised with it, and had come to love it especially when her mother also insisted that she be taught the traditional Indian dance styles of Bharatanatyam, Chhau and Mohiniyattam. The dance training and movements had merged with her martial training years ago, allowing her a control of her body that she worked diligently to retain throughout her adult life. While unarmed, she was not by any means defenseless. besides, it was her belief that carrying a phaser only made one take risks that they would not normally consider if they did not have one. Once everyone had settled, Eva spoke, giving them all the briefing and assignments that they would be carrying out while aboard the Waagoshin facility. Should you need to contact me in an emergency situation, and the use of the comm is not an option, think my name as loudly as you can and I will contact you. Are there any questions?" Ana had no questions. Things seemed pretty straight forward. She was to do what she always did. Observe and advise. Even the telepathic aspect of things wasn't worrisome to her. After all, the study of Telepathy, empathy and their associated mental conditions was one of her specialties. Ensign T'Vof piped up with a operational question. Commander, would it be prudent to set my tricorder to passive scanning? I can glean a fair bit visually, but the 'corder telemetry would be highly useful - unless you feel it's too high a risk that the Waagoshin will detect that?" (reply Straton) Ana nodded at the response, sine that answer would affect her as well. "Yes, Commander, I have a question." Kenny said, once the First Officer had finished giving her answer. Ana could see that when the First officer looked at the younger officer, that Kenneth seemed to be somewhat intimidated somewhat. "I...uhh... have no experience with telepathic or empathic races, but I was under the impression that only your type could read out minds, but that we, as in, non-telepaths, don't have the ability to... 'Call on you', as it were, using our minds. We just... Think of you if we need you?" (reply Straton) Ana listened carefully to the reply. She was also watching McKenzie's body language as well. Some individuals were very uncomfortable around telepaths of any sort. In fact there were dozens of conditions, illnesses and psychoses that labeled, defined and dealt with one of a plethora of variations caused by such reservations. Terms like 'your type' could be an indicator of an unhealthy prejudice that could cause issues later. ~Might need to have a short discussion with McKenzie after the mission.~ she thought to herself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, FO Commander Eva Straton, 1706) "Commander, would it be prudent to set my tricorder to passive scanning? I can glean a fair bit visually, but the 'corder telemetry would be highly useful - unless you feel it's too high a risk that the Waagoshin will detect that?" Ensign T'Vof asked. "Set it for passive scanning but do not activate it until after we are already on the Waagoshin station," Eva answered, "They may scan us foractive scanning devices upon our arrival." "Yes, Commander, I have a question." Ensign Mackenzie said. Eva turned to look at the ACSO as he hesitated a moment. "I...uhh... have no experience with telepathic or empathic races, but I was under the impression that only your type could read out minds, but that we, as in, non-telepaths, don't have the ability to... 'Call on you', as it were, using our minds. We just... Think of you if we need you?" Eva's brow only rose slightly as the ACSO showed his ignorance of telepathy and telepathic races. Her expression didn't otherwise change. "I am a powerful telepath Ensign Mackenzie," She explained. "As with most telepaths we have to work to shield ourselves from the thoughts and emotions of non-telepaths. The stronger the telepath\empath generally the harder they have to work to shield themselves from the unshielded minds of non-telepaths. That is why the telepathic moral laws exist, to protect the privacy of non-telepaths and telepaths alike from unwanted violations of their thoughts by others. Despite the fact that I would never violate your privacy by entering your mind without permission or a very damn good reason, very strong emotions or thoughts do tend to leak through. By thinking my name repeatedly and as powerfully as you can you will indicate to me that you wish me to make contact with you. Then I will make contact with you and you only need to think want you want to communicate to me. I will do the rest, if necessary I will relay the information to the rest of the Away Team, but only if I feel it absolutely necessary and our lives may be at risk. I will be keeping a telepathic lock on each of you while we are over there so even if we are separated I will have a general idea where you are. This in no way will violate your personal privacy, it only allows me to gage your general location. Does that answer your question Ensign?" Eva looked at each member of the Away Team before resting her gaze back on Mackenzie. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker, 1707) Haywood listened carefully as Straton issued orders to everyone present in the transporter room and nodded quietly, willing his heart rate to calm. "Commander, would it be prudent to set my tricorder to passive scanning? I can glean a fair bit visually, but the 'corder telemetry would be highly useful - unless you feel it's too high a risk that the Waagoshin will detect that?" Lo'ren asked. An excellent question. "Set it for passive scanning but do not activate it until after we are already on the Waagoshin station," Eva answered, "They may scan us for active scanning devices upon our arrival." An excellent answer. He waited patiently as Straton answered Mackenzie's concerns about her telepathic link with her crew before he piped up to ask his own last-minute question. "Those of us without phasers, ma'am," He smiled weakly, "I'm assuming we should probably make sure we stay close to someone carrying one? Preferably someone from our ship..." It was a weak jest, but it seemed to help calm himself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room Two, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 17:08 hours.) Commander Straton set her eyes on Kenny. Cold and full of determination. A cold wave suddenly shivered down Kenny's spine, but he hoped it did not show. He gulped responsively. He suddenly felt as if he was in a criminal court room, with the Judge and Jury, both as one person, judged him on the spot. He had not counted on this look from her. What was going on? He thought. Was it something he had said? All he had asked was how he, as a non telepath, could communicate with one who is. His arrogant nature returned as he attempted to match her stare. He did not like the look that Straton was giving him, and he wanted it to show in his face, with out being in contempt of this 'court'. He hoped he was showing it, and not showing fear in it's place. he fought down another gulp. Whatever, this Commander Straton was, she was not just ordinary Starfleet, that was sure. She spoke, and her glare did not change. This in no way will violate your personal privacy, it only allows me to gage your general location. Does that answer your question Ensign?" Eva looked at each member of the Away Team before resting her gaze back on Mackenzie. "Yes Ma'm." Kenny said and was surprised at how steady he was able to keep his voice, but he wished he did not stretch out his answer, which may have sounded a bit disrespectful. Despite the helpfulness of the answer, he was not happy with the way it was answered. He felt as if she was giving him a lecture which was burnt into her memory a thousand times over on why people should not fear telepaths. He was not afraid of his mental privacy being violated. As a matter of fact, he had never of thought of it. Maybe his question had come across as ignorant, and if so, maybe that was the reason for such a response, but he could not help feeling as if he was a target for any mishap or prejudiced she or her race may have suffered in the past. In the interest of the mission, he decided to let this go, but it was not easy. Kenny knew he was a nice and honest man at heart, but he also knew he was arrogant and determined. He would remember this incident. He did not like being thought of as something he was not, such as an igorant and discrimitive person, as he felt he was being thought of as by the Commadner, nor did he like being made a fool off. Not by anyone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter Room 2, FO Commander Eva Straton, 1709) "Yes Ma'm." Mackenzie said, though Eva could sense that he wasn't happy with her answer, but she didn't really care. She wasn't here to make people happy or to be their friends. They all had a job to do. "Those of us without phaser's, ma'am," Ensign Parker said, smiling weakly,"I'm assuming we should probably make sure we stay close to someone carrying one? Preferably someone from our ship..." "Ensign Walsh will assign a member of his security team to accompany you at all times, should we become separated," Eva answered, not commenting on the Ensign's joke recognizing it what it was. She had seen many marines that would make jokes before going into a combat situation to relieve stress. As long as the Ensign performed his duty under fire, Eva would over look the occasional sarcastic remark. (Reply Parker, Mackenzie, Anyone on Away Team) With all the questions finally answered, Eva finally took her place on the transporter pad. She looked at the transporter chief and nodded once. "Energize," She said, taking a deep breath and holding it in anticipation of what would be waiting for them on the other side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Transport Room, FO Commander EvaStraton, 1710) Eva immediately looked around the room as the transporter beam released her taking note of every exit and access hatch. Her wrist resting lightly against the handle of her phaser. It was darker than aboard the Hades and there was a strange scent in the air. There were several Waagoshin in the room and all of them were armed. Eva's eyes narrowed as one of the Waagoshin stepped forward from the group toward them. Eva stepped down off the transporter pad and up to the approaching Waagoshin. "I am Alpha Nine Sertha,"the Waagoshin said, introducing himself, his voice thick with contempt. "I am to escort you to the meeting room." Eva motioned for the rest of Away Team to step down from the pad without taking her eyes off Sertha. Then motioned toward the door. She wasn't about to give her name and rank to an inferior rank officer. There was a pause as Sertha was clearly waiting for Eva to introduce herself and the rest of the Away Team to him "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," Eva said through clenched teeth. "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." Sertha visibly flinched obviously not use to being talked to in such a manner by someone he thought of as inferior. He growled menacingly and barked something to the other Waagoshin in the room. The other Waagoshin in the room immediately drew their weapons and surrounded the Away Team. Eva didn't even blink her gaze locked on Sertha. "This way,"Sertha snarled, leading the way out the door. Eva turned and followed knowing the rest of the Away Team would be right on her heels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Transport Room, ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'renT'Vof, 1711) Lo'ren felt the last tingle of transport beam leave her skin as her eyes flicked about, looking for the exits. As her vision became accustomed to the dimness of the station and the stench that invaded her more sensitive Vulcan nose, she also sized up the Waagoshin group that had come to meet them. They were decidedly smaller than the holograms Walsh had programmed before and a part of Lo'ren's mind began reworking her personal combat strategies. She was relieved that the tail appendage was still present and vowed that she'd take sure advantage of that if needed. Lo'ren noted that the whole party was armed and her lip curled slightly, her sense of forboding climbing to yet another level. "I am Alpha Nine Sertha, I am to escort you to the meeting room." Lo'ren was non-plussed by the obvious contempt he had for them and she felt her triggers slowly being pressed. ~I am not a slave, Sertha. Nor will I become one in the near future.~ Lo'ren noted the motion Straton made for the team to leave the transporter pad and she complied. She noted Straton's lack of verbal communication and figured there was a chain of command being firmly extablished. ~You are subordinate to Straton, dog. Keep that in mind.~ Lo'ren recognized her own emotions as they threatened to make her loose her analitical abilities, she took a mere moment to shore up her mental walls and waited as Straton spoke. "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," Eva said through clenched teeth. "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." Lo'renn nearly smiled at the flinch that garnered but the bark and the subsequent drawing of weapons by their escort made her even more edgy and alert. "This way,"Sertha snarled, leading the way out the door. Lo'ren fell into position and followed Straton. Her hand stayed firmly on her phaser for the remainder of the trip to the meeting room keeping herself closer to the Waagoshin and checking that the unarmed members were covered.~Walsh may have it covered, but I'll be damned if I'm caught unawares.~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kairn Orbit - Orbital Station - Transporter Room - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 17:12) Eoin felt his body rematerialise, and he breathed out. When he breathed in again, he could smell a faint odour, almost like that of a wet dog. Not the most pleasant smell in the world, but tolerable anyway. He looked around, and got his first look at a Waagoshin. They were smaller than he expected, but they were decidedly vulpine. ~That would explain the smell,~ he thought to himself. The officer looked at the away team with contempt, which made Eoin uneasy. ~I won't let this one look cloud my judgement of this species and this experience.~ He intended to make the best of this. The lead Waagoshin stepped forward, and addressed the Hades crew. "I am Alpha Nine Sertha," he said. Eoin noted a hint of contempt that came through the UT. "I am to escort you to the meeting room." Commander Straton led the way, motioning for the crew to follo her. The escort stopped in the corridor, and said something to another Waagoshin, but Eoin didn't really catch it. But it didn't sound very nice. "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," the commander said through clenched teeth, "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." The escort did not take kindly to that. The one called Sertha barked at the other members of the escort. Eoin assumed it was something along the lines of "weapons." They drew their weapons, and trained them on the Away Team. Eoin did not take this well in the least. He stated to take a fighting stance, and put his hand on his phaser. But it was just a reflex. He relaxed, but he didn't take his hand off his phaser. "This way," Sertha said with a snarl, leading the team onward towards their destination. Eoin moved along with the rest of the Away Team, a serious look still on his face. "Much appreciated," Eoin said as he passed by. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kairn Orbit - Orbital Station - Transporter Room - ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker- 1713) It was dark, and honestly a bit dank. The cockiness ran like molasses from the Waagoshin "welcoming" party. It was amazing, Haywood thought, how hostile everyone seemed to be when thrown into unfamiliar territory. As the Waagoshin assumedly waited for Straton to introduce the party, Haywood found an uncomfortable chill running up his spine. "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," the commander said through clenched teeth, "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." There was a tone in her voice that Haywood couldn't even imagine being able to add to his own. The one called Sertha barked something at his crew, and as they surrounded the party with weapons drawn, Haywood couldn't help but feel his blood chill. ~Deep breaths, Hay. Keep your head level.~ He noticed out of the corner of his eye that Ensign MacLiam's hand moved conspicuously to his phaser, but vocalizing about it didn't seem prudent. "This way," Sertha growled and began escorting his visitors. Haywood nodded and rested his hand on his tricorder. ~Stealth, Hay, stealth.~ He would have smiled at his own over-exaggeration of what was expected of him, but this hardly seemed the venue for lightness. He stepped off the pad at Straton's gesture, making sure he stayed close enough to the rest of the party to feel, at least moderately, safe. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Transport Room, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 17:14 hours.) The first thing Kenny did as he rematerialised on the alien space station was check his phaser and tricorder, but he did it discreetly, so as not to scare of frighten the Wagoshiin. Not that they would seem frightened of them, he thought, by looking at them. Apart from the fact that they were a little smaller than the holographic simulations, they were still as fierce and scary as the simulations had been. As they stepped of the transporter pad, one of the came over and introduced himself to Eva in the same way that a Romulin guard would introduce himself to the person he was about to kill. not the best of starts, and not just that, but his teeth clichéd at Eva's response. What the Hell was she doing? he thought. he knew that they were trying to show respect to the Wagoshiin by being thought and not showing weakness, but Eva might as well have just decaled war on the Wagoshiin in the name of the Federation, since the large dog-like creature was not impressed one bit. Yet another thing that Kenny already did not like about the Commander, and he had only known her personally for about ten minutes. Kenny told himself that he was going to take notes of what Straton would do during their time here. he had a feeling that she was going to do something wrong, if the Wagoshiin did not start something first. ~Damn, these over-grown foxes,~ Kenny thought as they lead them away with weapons drawn and giving them hard looks. Kenny had been brought up to respect other races and cultures, but already he did not like the Wagoshiin. By the way they acted, they had no respect for others who were not their own race, regardless of weather they showed strength or not. He was sacred and he knew it. This was not like other First Contacts on record, where relations were strained from lack of knowledge from each other's culture, this was outright hostility from the Wagoshiin, short of attacking them. Normally, Kenny would have drawn his recorder and started taking scans of objects they pasted, but he was far to scared in case of them thought it was a weapon and would attack, or, was waiting for him to do that as an excuse to attack. he did not want to be the one remembered for starting the Fediration-Wagoshiin war for trying to scan with a ***-damned tricorder. Who the Hell are these bastards? thought Kenny as his pride and arrogance returned while walked down the corridor with his people. He was a Federation Science Officer and one of his duties was to scan alien technology to see what they were like, and what they were up against, and he was not going to be scared by some over-grown foxes who thought they could intimidate him. But he still wanted to be carful. He turned to one of his guards and spoke slowly so that he would understand him, but tried to keep the contempt away of his tone. "May I scan what we see as we past? One of my duties as Science Officer is-" "Do as you wish." the guard grunted, not even bothering to turn in his direction. Kenny tried not to narrow his eyes at the guard, so he slowly reached down for his tricorder and pulled it out, again slowly. he opened it and began to scan around him. What he found, however, did not surprise him, but made him like the Wagoshiin even less. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair orbit, Orbital station, Transport Room, CCOUNS- Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1715) The familiar feeling of rematerialization always gave Ana a sense of relief at discovering that she still existed above the quantum level with her conscious mind intact. It was an irrational thing to fear a tired and proven technology such as the transporter, but it still didn't mean that Ana couldn't be at least a little uncomfortable with the notion that her conscious mind might not return after one such transport She noted with interest that the Transporter platform was confined by an onagonal barrier. There were partial extensions reaching downward from the ceiling further defining the materialization/dematerialization area. A series of Blue and pale Indigo lights pulsed slowly from inside those recesses. There were also very short threshold perhaps six centimeters in height that defined the confines of the materialization pad on the floor. Tracing her eyes back to the transporter Console , she noted that the console itself, was the shape of a horseshoe pinched together somewhat at the open end. It's design seemed somehow different from every other aspect of the ship that she had seen on the main view screen. Not only was the console a bizarre shape compared to those on the bridge of the Graelridge, it did not seem well arranged for the expected body movements of a Waagoshin operator. The controls were clustered in nine distinct groups fairly far apart. Enough so , in fact to force the Waagoshin operator to move in a complex pattern to place the device on standby. The console seemed to have been designed for a species that had longer reach and a seemingly better peripheral vision. If she was correct in her assumption, the Waagoshin had not designed that console and that meant that they had most likely not designed the transporter system either. Even despite the blue pulsing lights, the room as a whole seemed to be much darker than what she was accustomed to. She also noted a strange odor, that seemed somewhat musky. There were a group of Waagoshin waiting for them as they arrived and almost immediately after they had settled, one of them, stepped forward. "I am Alpha Nine Sertha, "the Waagoshin said, introducing himself, his voice thick with contempt. "I am to escort you to the meeting room." His body language suggested contempt and an expectation to be deferred to. She didn't have to be an empath to know that he felt somehow sullied by the assignment that he had been given. Those other Waagoshin under his command seemed to have similar body stances. There was an unease among them that caused them to shift their body weight from paw to paw. It could be anticipation, excitement or apprehension. Judging from the observed behavior of the other Waagoshin that she had seen, she'd guess it was coming from a sense of anticipation. More specifically anticipation of sport. "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," Eva said through clenched teeth, the tone of her voice clear even to a non-humanoid. "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." The Waagoshin leader visibly flinched, perhaps at the tone of Eva's statement, or perhaps at the boldness of it. It was hard to tell, but it was at least very clear that the Alpha Nine, was not accustomed to being ordered around by a non-Waagoshin. Ana also noted with interest that all the Waagoshin present seemed to be male. In fact, in all the images and interactions that she'd been able to observe, there was no indication that there were females present on any of the Waagoshin vessels. That could be taken one of two ways. The first being that Females are not permitted on vessels that could be tasked for combat actions. The second could be that Females simply were not permitted to serve in the fleet at all. The latter could be an indication of a male dominated military caste society. It could also explain some of the indignation shown by the Waagoshin officer now escorting them to the leader of the Waagoshin presence in this sector of space. There was a sudden flurry of movement as all the Waagoshin escort drew their weapons. They appeared to be somewhat Baton like. And in a way similar to the transporter technology that she was seeing; they did not appear to be designed for the Waagoshin, or at least by them. Ana tensed slightly as the situation could rapidly accelerate into violence. It seemed however that the threat of displeasing Alpha One, was enough to keep the junior Waagoshin officer in line. At least for the present. "This way," Sertha snarled, leading the way out the door. Eva turned and followed knowing the rest of the Away Team would be right on her heels. ~Very regimented, obedience conditioning.~ Ana thought to herself as she followed Eva out of the Transporter room. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Tch'Kair orbit - Orbital station - Transporter Room - ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh, 1716) Walsh felt his body materializing, and he took a deep breath. He found himself on the Waagoshin's transporter pad, in a rather darker room. ~They likely have better low-light vision than we do.~ A Waagoshin stepped forward. "I am Alpha Nine Sertha, I am to escort you to the meeting room." FO Straton said nothing, gesturing toward the away team. Robert stepped down, impressed with the willpower of his commanding officer. He let his hands hang loosely at his sides, hoping he wasn't going to have to shoot anything yet. "I suggest you do as you've been ordered Sertha," Straton said, with a voice that made his hairs stand up. "I doubt Alpha 1 will appreciate you keeping him waiting." ~Lordy, I think I'm more scared of her then I am of them.~ The Waagoshin called Sertha didn't look happy. They all drew weapons and pointed them at the away team. Walsh kept his calm. Getting into a firefight right now would be disastrous. He would wait. "This way," Sertha growled. They followed him out of the room, Robert assessing what he could as he walked. ~Here we go...~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, CSO, Jericho Haynes , 1717) Jack had been manning science 1 on the bridge during the beam over and exchange of officers, Sash had retired to the observation lounge. Lieutenant Trinin had taken command of the bridge while Commander Straton and the away team assembled and beamed over to the Waagoshin station. The readings from the station were being accumulated and the Graelridge continued to give up its secrets as the data stream accumulated. There appeared to be a small number of non-Waagoshin aboard the ship as evidenced by the bio signatures he was getting and they were clustered on the third and seventh decks, far away from any sensitive areas. That denoted a level of suspicion and control which threw up red flags in his mind since they were not confined to a small area but were moving about purposefully. ~So not in a brig Jack. What are they doing?~ The catalogue of ships that had moved away from the station and out of the system was complete, thirty seven in total of five classifications ranging from transport ships to small craft and a couple along the lines of the Graelridge though slightly smaller. The warships were heavily armored and armed while the others were constructed of a less rigged material, Duranium/tritanium composite somewhat along the proportions of the Hades and in line with the hull material taken from the battle scene and tested aboard the ship. ~So older or civilian design, less costly but highly effective and very lightly armed.~ There had been no signs of the Quantum disruptor on them, merely high energy beam weapons and missiles. ~That leaves out civilian then. Older design, proven and reliable but not as deadly.~ There were still five ships in orbit around the station with them but they were in various stages of refit, unlikely antagonists should something happen. The station however was another story, its power plant was large and outputting tremendous amounts of energy and had a large number of shield emitters, weapons emplacements and missile launchers, if hostilities developed he was far more concerned about that than the Graelridge. Modifications for the SIF were completed and ready of course, the system was entirely functional. Other non-Waagoshin life forms aboard the station were also clustered as they were on the Graelridge which got him to thinking again, as he watched one of them faded till it was gone, all in the space of twenty seconds. The life form had been in the vicinity of a group of Waagoshin and moving before suddenly going dark. ~Dead! Killed? An accident?~ The beam-in of the away team registered on his sensors and he followed them as they left the embarkation area, he felt an unease from Lo'ren that was palpable. She didn't like and was suspicious of what was going on which unease he shared. Everything that was happening was being recorded obviously and he downloaded some pertinent files onto a PADD and stood to his feet and walked to Baylon with it, holding it out as he did so. "Lieutenant Trinin, something I think you ought to see." (Reply: Baylon) "Offensive and defensive systems on the station as well as its power supply. Their shielding looks to be very heavy and they have disruptors not very far advanced from the ones we found at the scene of the battle but heavier. I would say some type of particle missiles at twelve launchers spread over its surface with saturation angles all around it. Two quantum disruptors as well, probably a primary and backup judging from the energy signatures. The station is composed of Duranium/ tritanium composite unlike the Graelridge so the advanced alloys are too costly for them to use in the quantities needed to construct a station. The other ships that left the system were likewise armed and protected except for two that were of a smaller class than the Graelridge but similarly armed and armored." "They appear to use the advanced armor only on attack craft. I've also come up with a number of life signs on both the station and ship that are non-Waagoshin. They appear to play subservient roles and are restricted from sensitive areas. One died while I was watching, killed in an accident or by design... I can't say for sure. I've got the away team on scanners and am following them closely." (Reply: Baylon) "I'm trying to locate weaknesses in the structure or systems now. Needless to say I would advise caution in dealing with this race, not that you need to hear that." Jack gave Baylon a grin and wink before returning to science 1 to carry out his orders. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1720) After being informed that the Waagoshin officers would be beaming over later than originally thought, Baylon had returned to the bridge. Captain Sash had retired along with some of the senior officers to the Observation lounge perhaps to discuss the pending meeting. For a couple more minutes he sat uneasily in the center command chair, feeling the nervousness of several of the other officers surrounding him, while doing his best not to share their emotions. Besides the emotional emanations coming from some of the members of the crew, here was his own sense of unease caused by the fact that he was not going to be in attendance in the conference where Captain Sash and the few remaining senior officers on the ship were going to meet with the Waagoshin exchange officer. Sash had requested that he remain on the bridge as the senior watch officer. And while Baylon could appreciate the captain's confidence in him to command the ship should it prove necessary, Baylon was still uncomfortable being here rather than at the upcoming conference. The Ship's CMO, The CEO and the Captain were in the lounge, while all the other senior officers except for Commander Zzt, Lieutenant Haynes and Himself were currently aboard the Waagoshin station, acting as Ambassadors at large to the Waagoshin authority stationed there. The unease was difficult to get rid of. It wasn't that Baylon had any real reservations about his ability to lead or command. It was more of a tactical concern than anything else. As he currently saw things, The Waagoshin held all of the most important pieces of this ship's crew in their sharply clawed hands. If they really did turn out to be hostile, they had the ability to strike a critical blow against the Hades. One simple act could remove the most senior officers from being able to perform their duty. They could be isolated, neutralized or worse- killed in a matter of moments. He understood all too well that such a situation would leave him in the immediate command by virtue of the tactical situation, despite the fact that Commander Zzt outranked him. They'd be in a very dangerous situation, deep inside unknown hostile territory, facing an uncertain number of enemy combatants, with unknown capabilities. No Pressure, none at all. Lieutenant Haynes was at the science station maintaining a running scan of the ships that came and went from the facility and the system. He was also conducting a detailed scan of the Waagoshin facility to get a better gauge of it's tactical capabilities. Of course using the new system, the data was coming in slower than he liked to admit. he could only hope that if things went bad, that he'd have enough data to make a proper decision. Baylon sat looking over some readiness reports from the engineering department. they were the standard fare, nothing abnormal or even pressing, but he found that they helped him to focus on the operational aspects of the situation rather than the feelings of dread that was slowly growing in the pit of his stomach. He handed the PADD back to the Yeoman and smiled. She returned his smile before heading towards the turbolift. Baylon turned his eyes back towards the monster that was the Waagoshin facility. It was a monstrous thing, Three, globes stacked one atop the other, and bristling with a half dozen docking pylons around the midway point of each globe. A series of small donut shaped structures capped both the uppermost and lower most of the globes which could be the administrative centers for the facility. Interspersed between the docking hubs were a few scattered weapons hard points. Most likely missiles, but a couple of heavy duty looking emitters were also present. They were nestled in the vertical extremities of the facilities design and almost appeared to be later additions to the original design. His attention was drawn away from the facility as it lazily spun on the main view screen by the approach of Lieutenant Haynes. The Ship's CSO was holding a PADD in his right hand. He held it out towards Baylon. "Lieutenant Trinin, something I think you ought to see." he said. The Betazoid reached out and took the PADD and tapped a couple of buttons on the PADDs interface. "What am I looking at?" he asked absently as the data began to slowly scroll across the personal device's display. "Offensive and defensive systems on the station as well as its power supply. The other ships that left the system were likewise armed and protected except for two that were of a smaller class than the Graelridge but similarly armed and armored." Baylon scrolled through the data slowly as Haynes gave him a summary of what they may be facing. Some of the power level readings were disturbing. The station boasted almost four times the available power of the Hades. If things went south, that station would prove to be a formidable obstacle. "They appear to use the advanced armor only on attack craft. I've also come up with a number of life signs on both the station and ship that are non-Waagoshin. They appear to play subservient roles and are restricted from sensitive areas. One died while I was watching, killed in an accident or by design... I can't say for sure. I've got the away team on scanners and am following them closely." A mixed technology then, Baylon surmised as Haynes concluded his mini summary. Of course there was much more data on the PADD that Haynes had not mentioned, although he had hit the highlights. Trinin frowned for a moment before returning his face to a more neutral expression. "Let's see what sort of weaknesses we can find. Either in the Power distribution systems, Station Emissions, Life Support or offensive defensive systems. For that Matter lets include the physical structure as well. If it comes to blows we'll want to hit them hard and make them reel." "I'm trying to locate weaknesses in the structure or systems now. Needless to say I would advise caution in dealing with this race, not that you need to hear that." Jack slashed him a grin and a wink. The Betazoid just smiled back before shaking his head a bit. "No, I expect they'll be more dangerous than the simulations at the least. But we have an advantage of speed and maneuverability and we're not lightweights in the firepower department either." Baylon commented. Jack gave him a single nod then turned to head back to the science station to continue his work. Baylon still felt that he'd be a lot more comfortable with the situation if he were doing anything other than sitting in the center chair at the moment. He glanced up at the chronometer and realized he needed to head to the transporter room to meet their guests. "Lieutenant Haynes, I need to leave the bridge for escort duty. Once I have delivered the Waagoshin to the Observation Lounge and returned to the bridge, you will be free to join them. until then, you have the bridge." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Transporter Room One - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1724) Baylon had arrived at exactly 1725 hours, and was glad to see his team assembled and ready to go. "Alright, everyone, Parade rest." His personnel shifted to a parade rest stance. He saw no reason to have them at attention. "Energize Mister Royston" A few moments passed as the brilliant beams of energy coalesced into the solid bodies of the Waagoshin officers. There were indeed eight of them as expected. Baylon's first impression was that they were shorter and more lithe than he expected. The simulations, although very close had not been right on the mark. The lower center of gravity and associated body form that they possessed would be to their advantage provided that they could prevent themselves from being pinned in place. Baylon took a step forward. "Greetings, I am Lieutenant Baylon Trinin. I am the Security Chief. Welcome to the USS Hades." Baylon stood still as he gave his greeting. They had no way of knowing how the Waagoshin might interpret customary greetings, so he had decided on the safer decision of remaining still. One of the Waagoshin stepped forward off the transporter platform. He was a bit stockier than his compatriots, but taller as well. He was wearing a Deep red clothing, covered with buckles and straps and highlighted in black. At his hip, he carried a holstered weapon. At first appearance it seemed to be a collapsible baton which might also be capable of emitting an energy discharge of some sort. It seemed out of character for them somehow. The Waagoshin, turned his head as he regarded the clean interior of the federation starship. he sniffed the air and then crinkled his nose a bit. The being's eyes seemed calculating as if he were planning something. Despite this Trinin kept his desire to read the being's thoughts under control. Instead he just allowed himself to focus on their state of mind. "I am Sanra, Sixth Alpha. I am the leader of this war band." At the word war band several of the security officers behind him stiffened slightly. Baylon realized first that the problem could be with the universal translator, trying to find a suitable word to describe the Waagoshin group, rather than any indication of potential violence. Baylon looked Sanra in the eye. He had dark bottomless eyes, surrounded by an orange-red streak of fur. A white patch surrounded his left eye. There was a scar along the top of his snout where the hair had failed to regrow. "Welcome Sanra. My men and I will escort you to the Captain. There are officers there who are looking forward to meeting you." Sanra raised one lip, revealing a few of his yellowed canines. "Good, I am looking forward to meeting with your officers." he said almost with a smirk. Baylon gestured towards the door to the transporter room. He took two steps forward then stopped when Sanra let out a short bark. At that apparent command, which was not translatable by the Universal Translator, his team stepped down from the platform and followed along as Baylon led them through the ship towards their rendezvous with Captain Sash and the other officers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Meeting Room, FO Commander Eva Straton, 17:25) Eva followed Sertha into the meeting room noticing that there were already several armed Waagoshin waiting for them in the room. There was along conference table with two chairs one on each end. Eva regarded the chair that Sertha led her toward it was clearly designed for Waagoshin physiology and comfort. "By Alpha 1's command we have prepared a tour for your junior officers while you meet with Alpha 1," Sertha said nodding slightly toward Eva though his voice remained thick with contempt. Eva smiled, though there was no mirth in her smile. ~Divide and conquer eh?~ She could feel the deceit in Sertha, standing no more than two feet in front of her, like a tangible thing. ~We will play along...for now.~ "Very well," Eva said, "Ensign Walsh, however, will remain with me." She turned and looked at the rest of the Away Team. "Remember your orders." She turned back toward Sertha and nodded. She picked up a wave of displeasure coming from him as he scowled at Ensign Walsh who had moved to take up position near Eva. She concluded that they were attempting to gether alone as she was obviously the one in charge. The rest of the Away Team was then escorted back out into the corridor and the door was closed behind them. She nodded for Walsh to take up position next to the door while she waited for the arrival of Alpha 1. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair orbit, Orbital station, Meeting Room, CCOUNS Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1726) Ana followed the rest of the officers into the meeting room where they had been led to meet with the Waagoshin commander, Alpha One. Her eyes had gathered a great deal of information along the way, not only from the Waagoshin but also from the other species that they had passed along the way. There was one thing that every counselor could immediately recognize, and that was the body language that went along with a battered being. Whether it was psychological or physical abuse, there were certain tell-tale signs that you never missed. There were little things, that the untrained eye might miss, such as a sudden change of body posture, or an aversion of a beings eyes. These same tattle tales, could have been a result of unique physiology or maybe cultural mores, but Ana somehow doubted that to be the case. To further support her theory, she need only look at Sertha. His body language all but bristled as a being that was willing to use violence to achieve dominance. And while there were other species that had similar cultural standards, Sertha's body stance was almost challenging to Eva'sauthority over her own people. It was hard to tell whether that attitude towards the commander was because of her gender, or her species. But whichever it was, if the Waagoshin in command were likely to barely be able to keep themselves in check, Ana knew that once they turned loose of the proverbial leash, their subordinates would be even less constrained. They wouldn't be concerned with doing the right thing, when there was no chance of punishment for doing the wrong thing. And among most species, it was always easier to do the wrong and selfish thing than it was to do the right and selfless thing. Sertha's tone of voice was condemning enough for her clinical mind. There wasn't a simple dislike buried there under the soft barks and whines of the Waagoshin language, there was a deep contempt. And though Ana was no Betazed, she wouldn't be a very good Counselor if she couldn't at least tell that about the Waagoshin officer. Which meant that Commander Straton with her empathic skills would most assuredly know as much also. "By Alpha 1's command we have prepared a tour for your junior officers while you meet with Alpha 1," Sertha said with a strangely inhuman nod. The federation commander smiled back at him although it was a cold smile, before answering, "Very well," Eva said, "Ensign Walsh, however, will remain with me." She turned and looked at the rest of the Away Team. "Remember your orders." Ana gave a short quick nod, knowing that anything else would draw unwanted attention and possibly undue attention to inquire about those orders.~perhaps though, that was the point of Eva making the situation cryptic, yet tempting for the Waagoshin.~ She thought, ~Maybe she's conducting psychological warfare of a sort.~ Ana allowed herself to be directed by the Waagoshin escort, and it seemed that she and Parker would be together for their little part of the tour. She noted that neither of them carried a phaser, and despite her disdain for the weapons, she was at least glad that the two security officers with them were armed. She gave Parker a reassuring smile as they were directed out into the corridor. "Ready Haywood?" She asked in an attempt to see if he was as apprehensive as she was. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Corridor, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 17:27 hours.) In all his life, Kenny had not felt so scared. At the same time, he dispised the Wagoshiin and he knew that they dispised them. Either the red-furred aliens were the worst bluffers in the universe, or they were not making any atempt to hide their hate. Kenny was not sure. He felt more like a prisoner than a guest, being escorted by the guards. In a way, he wanted to tell them to stop being so stuip, that if they picked a fight with the Hades, many of them would die. He wanted to wipe the stupid grin off their faces. He... What was he thinking? This was not like him and he knew it. Why was he thinking such dark thoughts? Was it somthing in the air, or was he just trying to avoid his fear? He changed his tridorder scan to find any substance in the air which would affect the parts of the brain which delt with aggrovation. On a hunch. He belived he had somthing here. While he was scanning, the Alpha lead them to a large metal door. They walked inside, and an short exchange of word took place between Straton and the Alpha. Kenny was not reslly listaing, he was trying to work out these strange readings. There was diffenatly somthing in the air. He was nto sure what, some kind of molicule on the sub-atomic level which was evenly dispersed between the oxygen/nitrogen in the air. He was not sure what to make it out as, or what it was doing in the air. He was not even sure if it was a nautral thing. So far, it was did not appeal to be doing them any harm, but it might explain the aggrivated aggretion. There was a small cromeisone in the particals which some how reacted to the agretion centres of the brain. Kenny remembered seeing these same configurations before, back in medical shcool. He wondered if this was somthign he should tell them about, and weather or not it would affect them. But he was afried to speak up. What the hell where these strange things, anyway? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Observation Lounge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1728) Baylon had purposefully selected the route that would show the Waagoshin officers the least critical portions of the ship. He had purposefully selected not to take them to the bridge for entry to the observation lounge instead accessing it through the small corridor that ran along the First Officer's office. He could feel the sense of satisfaction coming from the Waagoshin. He could also feel the sense of smugness that tended to come from those who thought themselves superior to other species. He'd experienced that sensation many times, but most recently on Romulus. If the Romulans couldn't get to him with their xenophobic superiority complex, he wasn't about to let the Waagoshin bother him with theirs. The doors to the observation lounge slid open to admit the group of Waagoshin officers. As he'd ordered, only two of his own security personnel entered the room, behind tem. They took up station at the doorway. The rest of the security team was waiting in the corridor for any sign of trouble. Baylon noted that captain Sash and Angeni had taken seats near the head of the table. They had been looking out at the stars as he entered with the Waagoshin in tow. Lieutenant Wright had been sitting, looking at a PADD with some sense of interest. Even Maraht was present. Now that the doors had closed, They all turned their attention to Baylon and their guests. "Captain, allow me to present..." he began but was interrupted by the Waagoshin leader. "I am Sanra, Sixth Alpha. I am the leader of this war band." Baylon managed his irritation at being interrupted so rudely. For all he knew the Waagoshin was following some sort of personal ritual or protocol. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Waagoshin Escort - Knars - 1729) Knars, being only a Beta four ranked warrior, had been relegated to escorting the two most boring individual among the alien retinue. They were also by chance considered to be the least dangerous, thus the reason that he was assigned here. Still, despite the fact that he knew the assignment was fundamentally an insult, he was still determined to carry out his orders. There were three younglings, young Waagoshin warriors that hadn't yet participated in either a pack hunt or a war kill, accompanying him. He was in effect babysitting not only disgustingly ugly smooth skinned aliens, but also the equivalent of young adolescent warriors to be. They were to follow along, monitor the aliens and learn from Knars' limited experience. He turned to look at the two soft-looking pink-skinned aliens. The one named Ewo-en was using a scanning device to scan the immediate area. It was a futile effort really, they were nowhere near any of the station's more critical sections. In fact, they would soon reach the waste reclamation center and Knars would give them a tour of the more literal bowels of the station. The other alien was a scientist he'd been told. So his brain was valuable even if his body was weak. He, like his compatriot, was using a scanner as they moved down the corridor. The Waagoshin guide wasn't much for talking to potential slaves, but he had been told to be cordial for the moment. And in his book, cordial meant talking. "And that's why there is only a single language among the Waagoshin. All the speakers of the other forms were killed. when the first Great Alpha merged the packs..." he was explaining to the human named Ewo-en. (reply Eoin or McKenzie Room for more) The corridor around them was oval shaped, to accommodate the tallness of the bug slaves, despite the fact that there weren't any working in this section that he was aware of. A small group of Nilgiks, all two feet of them, were busy working on an access panel, behind which some plumbing had become plugged. Unlike those Nilgiks who worked on the more advanced technical equipment, this group had shaved off all their golden colored fur to reveal the bronze colored skin that was normally out of sight. Their large bulbous eyes were looking at the equipment. Each eye was independently looking at a different aspect of the hardware. The fact that they could look in two completely different directions had always creeped Knars out. It was just unnatural. Nilgiks had no olfactory glands, which made them perfect for the work undertaken in the waste reclamation center. Right now, Knars was almost jealous of that fact. His own advanced sense of smell was nearly overpowering him. The ripeness of the compartment, however didn't seem to be bothering either of the two smooth-skinned aliens. If it was, they made no outward sign of discomfort. At least none, that Knars could recognize as disgust. "Ah, here we are." he said at last as the small group reached a heavy looking oval shaped door. Beyond it was the main center, full of pumps, equipment, filters and other technical stuff that Knars could only guess at. It was the Nilgiks jobs to know what all the equipment did and so Knars didn't have to. (reply Eoin, McKenzie) The Waagoshin Beta, reached out with one claw and tapped the access code to the hatch. The door parted midway on the horizontal axis, belching an acrid smell that nearly caused Knars to gag. "This is the..." he took a deep breath which only made things worse for him. He had to concentrate to keep from being sick. "..Waste Reclamation facility. It's where we...." He searched for the right words and finally settled on, "Reclaim waste. There are a number of things that they do here, but I am no technician, so look around this compartment and ask questions if you want. I'll try to answer or find us a Nilgik that can." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Mountain Fortress- Undisclosed location, Resistance Leader K'thartek - 1730) K'thartek sat at the console in what had become his personal chamber. It was the place where he conducted his introspection and planning of the Resistance. Now he was sitting staring at the blank screen that just a few moments before had been alive with the image of their agent within the Waagoshin fleet. The Tch'Kairn leader did not know her name, only Lupo Dal knew her name, but the resistance leader had come to accept that as a necessary fact. If anything ever happened to him, he would be unable to betray her, and although he was the leader of the resistance as a whole, she was truly indispensable to their cause. He knew with a certainty that another of those within his cell could replace him, but for their spy, that would be impossible. She was so valuable that she was the only asset that her loss could spell the end of the resistance. Losing her to the Waagoshin would be a terrible blow and one from which they may be unable to recover. He had just given her a difficult order, one that could well put her in jeopardy, yet for all of K'thartek's ability to plan things, he could see no other way to make contact with the mysterious new visitors who were even now aboard the Waagoshin command station, other than to order that an attempt at contact be given. He had crafted a detailed message, one that would deliver a warning while also asking for aid from the new species. He had even included a special communications channel that would allow them to signal any intentions that they had of joining up with the resistance. That in itself was a risk. A very big risk. He could not know for certain that the new arrivals could be trusted, and he also could not guarantee that the message would reach them rather than be intercepted by the Waagoshin. All he had that remained of his hope was faith. A faith that the hastily constructed plan would be fulfilled. That and the guarantee that the Waagoshin would not act outside of their true nature. He was confident that they would show their true colors, and once that happened... K'thartek knew that he would be able to count on the old adage, 'the Enemy of my enemy is my ally.' For now all he could do was sit, stare at his reflection in the darkened view screen, work his mandibles and hope that he had not just made a grave error in judgment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair'n orbit, Orbital station, Meeting Room, Alpha 1, 17:31) The door opened obligingly before the Waagoshin known as Alpa 1 and he walked into the meeting room with a gait that could only be described as haughty, his head was held high and a wolfish smile upon his face. He held all the aces and he knew it, he had merely to bide his time to allow his team on the Hades to mark out their targets and get into position so that his plans could be implemented. Seated at the table was the commander of the Hades away team with an escort standing protectively nearby, his own entourage of five watched them expectantly. He had been studying the aliens physiology and could determine that the leader was a female which he considered a slight, the fact that Sash had remained on his ship and sent such a one neared insulting proportions according to Waagoshin traditions. Still ... one could not forget that these aliens perhaps had different customs which changed things not one whit, once he had Sash aboard the station along with his senior officers captured or dead he would hold the key to every secret these Federation aliens were in possession of. Until that time there was a charade to continue. "Commander Straton." He said as he took his seat at the far side of the table with his group aligned behind him. " I welcome you and your officers to Waagoshin outpost station 5 in the Tch'kira sector, is there anything you would like before we begin our negotiations perhaps? Water or something stronger? Kalya is a bit harsh but will put a yip in your throat." The Waagoshin liquor was traditionally served during negotiations between warring parties. (Reply: Eva) "Who is your officer?" Alpha 1 asked pleasantly. "He needn't look so stern, we are all friends here after all." His mouth split in a grin that showcased his formidable canines. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Waagoshin Security headquarters- Main Computer access , Technician Klk'Shis - 1745) Klk'Shis's hearts were beating rapidly again as she looked around the office furtively, the orders she had received could put her and her sympathizers in danger. That was to be expected though, as plans unfurled they would be stepping out farther and farther into the unknown and their every move would lead them inexorably into conflict with the Waagoshin. Her situation wasn't the best since she was stuck in the garrison doing upgrades and couldn't leave until the software had at least been completely downloaded and initiated. It wasn't that she didn't trust Ekl'klk or Mml'hss, it was that she'd rather deliver the message herself and save them the possible repercussions of failure. She was going to be stuck here on the surface for another few hours though and the message needed to be delivered immediately, word had reached her that the aliens had already been transported to the station to meet with Alpha 1. She had intercepted the message almost by chance, the fact that the commander of the resistance had sent orders to her directly was a testimony to its urgency. Routing it here to the computer core before the Waagoshin had noticed the microburst transmission had been a stroke of fortune along with an inordinate amount of preparation enacted by the resistance almost eight years ago in preparation for this very opportunity. Reaching into her pouch she pulled out the copy of the program on a crystalline chip and inserted it into the reader then typed in her technical clearance code. When the monitor showed it decompressing the data she then began working on a second application, it would send the message she had received to Ekl'klk who would contact Mml'hiss and devise a plan for getting it to some member/s of the alien entourage. The Waagoshin normally manning the computer core workstation had left for the evening meal with some measure of relief at the break in his duties so he wouldn't be returning for up to another hour yet which time she did not need, it was only the work of a few minutes to upload the data, send it to Ekl'klk in an encrypted and disguised file and then erase it here at the source. When she was done she covered her tracks thoroughly and leaned back with an exhalation through her spicules half expecting another encounter like the one she had had earlier but no antagonistic Waagoshin arrived to her relief so she checked the progress of the program she had inserted and noted it was nearly ready to initiate. In irritation she then waited impatiently as the computer hummed and clicked, seemingly in no hurry for the Tch'kairn spy who ached now to return to the station and see what would come from the fruits of her labors. ~No our labors now, I cannot do it all.~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Maintenance office, Maintenance Specialist Ekl'klk - 1750) Ekl'klk was straightening the equipment in storage unit near the maintenance office when a low buzz and vibration from a small unit in the pouch he was wearing containing small personal items alerted him to a priority message from someone in his cell, even the Waagoshin with their keen hearing would not have detected it from more than a few feet away, still he nearly jumped in guilty dismay at the alert. Looking about quickly and satisfied that it had gone undetected he swallowed down the lump in his throat and went to notify his taskmaster that the work was done and find something else to do for another ten minutes so that the Waagoshin would not be suspicious at him leaving early with careful maneuvering to return to his personal quarters so that he could review the transmission. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Slave quarters, Maintenance Specialist Ekl'klk and Body servant Mml'hiss - 1805) "What is so important Ekl'klk?" Mml'hiss whispered wile looking about, the two Tch'kairn were standing in the corner of one wing of the slave quarters by themselves, the rest of the off duty slaves including two Kel Ruvians and a Shistak were taking their food in another room. "Look at this." Ekl'klk gave the receiver to the other Tch'kairn and watched the door to the compartment closely as she reviewed the information. "Stones and grass." She whispered in wonder and fear. "We are to deliver this warning to the aliens? How are we to do this? The Waagoshin will see and execute us!" "Shhh." He said soothingly. "Not if one of us can distract the Waagoshin while the other slips the crystal I prepared to one of the aliens. We can use a tap sedative to cause one of the guards to become ill, the rest will be focused on that one for an instant, long enough for the exchange." "Do you have the instrument then?" "Yes." He answered and slipped a small disc from his pouch which he showed to her, one side would adhere to the hard surface of a Tch'kairn finger while the other would deliver the drug through the skin of the Waagoshin chosen but could not penetrate the exoskeleton of one of his people, this had been cleverly devised by a technician years ago and used many times since. Mml'hiss showed agitation at the concept. "I don't know, this is so dangerous." "We must do it Mml'hiss, our people rely on this. If we are ever to be free we must be courageous. Just do as I say, it will work, you will see and the aliens will be warned of their danger and be appreciative. There are also instructions for them to use to contact our leaders. All hopes and dreams of our people depend on our actions. We can not fail!" He reached out and stroked her antenna with one hand soothingly and she nodded in acquiescence. "All right I will be brave. Hopefully we will be remembered in the future for our deeds." Ekl'klk shook his head in exasperation, she had no hope of surviving this work but that would not keep her from fulfilling her promise. If they could pull this off properly though perhaps they would see a new future for Tch'kair. "We will see a future free from tyranny, you will see it and remember the part you played, I promise you this." She gave a small gesture that showed her doubts but nodded halfheartedly. "When?" "Now." He said and gently guided her to the door as he slipped the crystal to her. "I will mark a Waagoshin and administer the drug and you will use the distraction to slip it to a member of their team, if it doesn't work or I am caught slip away and report our failure, you will not have to suffer for this." "Very well." She quickened her pace. "Where are we going?" "One of their groups was sent to the medical deck for a tour, we will give it to one of them. I will show you where to wait. The drug will take effect quickly so be ready to move at an instants notice, you are fast enough to place this and get away before you are seen." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Medical deck, Maintenance Specialist Ekl'klk - 1825) Ekl'klk waited in the shadow of an adjoining corridor as the group of Waagoshin and smooth skinned aliens approached, there were three of the long snouts, two hard eyed aliens sporting weapons trailing them and two more of the aliens bringing up the rear that did not appear to be armed, one with long hair and the other taller and with rugged features who appeared to be nervous. He had walked past them earlier and heard that one referred to as Haywood, doubling back by using a service crawlway he had taken up position here to await their approach. As the foremost Waagoshin reached his position he stepped out quickly with his head turned from them and almost bowled the trailing Waagoshin over. The Waagoshin reacted instantly, with a snarl he gave the Tch'kairn a backhanded blow with the hand that held the weapon, there was a crunch as it impacted his exoskeleton protecting the upper right arm, pain shot through the Tch'kairn who dropped to the floor and began weeping in fear. The Waagoshin brought the weapon up and aimed it at Ekl'klk. "You dolt! You idiot! I will kill you!" It yelped in anger. "Please master!" Ekl'klk groveled convincingly. "I did not see you! It was an accident. Please do not kill me, I live only to serve!" The Waagoshin's finger was tightening on the firing stud as the lead Waagoshin wheeled and slapped the weapon aside. He growled at the offended long snout. "It's not worth it." He whispered to the other. "Let it go for now, we have more important and pressing duties." The one he had bumped into turned with a snarl but bit back the reply as he turned his head to the group of aliens they were escorting who were looking on with keen interest. (Reply: Ana, Haywood, security, any) The long snout gave a grunt and turned away from Ekl'klk but not before giving him a withering look that promised future repercussions. "Of course, let us continue the tour." After speaking he walked away from the kneeling Tch'kairn who waited patiently until the group had turned a corner before sitting up with a hoarse gulp. "That was too close." Getting up while cradling his injured arm he followed at a distance furtively to watch the coming action, the tap sedative he had swiped across the Waagoshins stomach cradled protectively in his right fist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Tch'Kair orbit, Orbital station, Medical deck, CCOUNS Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1835) They'd been walking around for nearly an hour and so far all Ana had seen were a few empty bio recovery chambers, similar in function to a biobed aboard a federation starship and a few pieces of medical equipment that was very specialized for the species that seemed to be aboard the facility. She noted with interest that the bays that had been identified for use by non-Waagoshin species had seemed to be more poorly equipped than she had expected. They were now on their way towards the bay where the Waagoshin were treated for injuries. As with all the other areas of the station, the corridors were oval shaped and taller than were necessary for the Waagoshin to require. It was apparent that they were constructed for a much larger species, by so far she had not seen any species that was much larger than the Waagoshin. That was until they made for the corridor leaded towards the Waagoshin ward of the medical deck. As they approached what appeared to be a service access that conjoined with the corridor, a large mantis shaped being, already identified by Doctor windsong's simulated body model moved into the corridor and collided with one of the Waagoshin security officers. Immediately that Waagoshin responded with force. The Baton like weapon came down on the right forearm of the Tch'Kairn with a sickening crunch of broken carapace. Almost immediately thereafter the same Waagoshin raised the weapon as if to finish the life from the larger mantis-like being. "Please master!" the wounded Tch'Kairn pleaded "I did not see you! It was an accident. Please do not kill me, I live only to serve!" Those words were exactly what Ana needed to confirm the master-slave relationship that she was suspecting existed between these species. Without thinking Ana found herself stepping forward towards the Waagoshin and the injured Tch'Kairn. Her eyes, locking onto the warriors own and letting him know that she was not going to stand by and let him simply murder another sentient being. The Waagoshin's finger was tightening on the firing stud as the lead Waagoshin wheeled and slapped the weapon aside. He growled at his offended colleague. "It's not worth it." He whispered to the other. "Let it go for now, we have more important and pressing duties." The Waagoshin warrior snarled then turned to face her and the other federation officers that were accompanying them. "It's a slave." Ana said, "Hardly a challenge for a warrior is it?" her voice was level and calm. Here eyes were still somewhat challenging. The guard gave a grunt and turned away from the injured Tch'Kairn but not before giving him a withering look . "Of course, let us continue the tour."He answered without acknowledging Ana's statement. After speaking he walked away from the kneeling Tch'kairn and continued to lead the tour. Ana couldn't help but revel in her small victory. She smiled at the Tch'Kairn as she passed and gave it a brief nod of the head. Hopefully, he'd survive after they left the station. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Medical deck, Body servant Mml'hiss - 1838) Mml'hiss was trembling in fear as she listened to the group approach the open archway where Ekl'klk had placed her, moving to one side or the other she could avoid the gazes of the party while maintaining enough room to move quickly while had she been standing in a corridor she would have been obvious to any and everyone not to mention suspicious. Unknown to her Ekl'klk was trailing the group and wondering if they were making a mistake, the female had stood up for him yes but the look she had given him, the baring of teeth reminded him of a gesture the Waagoshin would make. He hoped he was wrong. "These compartments are used only in the most extreme cases." The leading Waagoshin had stopped across the hall and was gesturing to a number of cubicles used for isolating sick Waagoshin or those irradiated. "We use them very little, those that reach such extremes routinely prefer to pass on." He didn't elaborate on that statement but it had obvious connotations. (Reply: Ana, Haywood) Peeking out from behind the archway Mml'hiss could see the male at the rear of the alien group was not more than a few steps from her and facing away, while the Waagoshin were extremely fast the Tch'kairn were faster, still she was trembling at the thought of what she was being called upon to do. One of the Waagoshin began to sway as she watched, appearing to be very dizzy. ~The tap sedative is taking effect as Ekl'klk said, he was successful in infecting this one.~ Yelping suddenly in anger and fear the Waagoshin collapsed in a heap which caught the attention of the other two guards as well as the aliens. Mml'hiss knew it was time to act but she stood frozen in fear for an instant. ~I must move, I must.~ Stifling a sob of terror she swept from the archway with such speed her movements were a blur to any who might have been watching such as Ekl'klk who was peeking from around a corner down the hall. With all her speed though she had not counted on the medical instincts of the aliens who were stepping toward the stricken Waagoshin, her movement was successful though as reaching out she deposited the crystal in the pocket of the tall male as he moved which covered any feeling he might have received from it. (Reply: Ana, Haywood) As she moved back into the archway she spun to the right and pressed against the wall with her hearts thumping madly. ~Was I spotted, are they going to kill me?~ She stifled the sobs of anguish and fear that were trying to wrack her frame, if she was heard she would surely die. There were no shouts though, no sudden movements toward her position. She could hear one of the Waagoshin yelping. "Medical unit to the isolation chambers. Security team, send a replacement to the medical deck, I have one officer down." He had no doubt used the communications stud on his rod to call for help. (Reply: Ana, Haywood) When the tumult had died down and the aliens moved on she slid to the floor and gave the flood of emotions free rein till Ekl'klk knelt down and stroked her antennae which helped to calm her. "You did well little sister, your efforts will be well rewarded when Tch'kair is free." He held back giving voice to his own fears which had surfaced at the one called Ripley's actions. "A new day shall dawn." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
