Eoin sat back up. "Well, I'm done with this console. Have funcoding. I know I would." {{Fun yes, know-that do-do me.}} After her response, Arysha patted Eoin on the shoulder and moved back to the console she'd set up for coding. She settled herself into the seat and tilted the chair back. She flipped a switch on her vox and it went mute - she'd learned the hard way that coding could be very distracting to the hearing. Flipping another switch made the console in front of her go dark but that didn't bother Arysha. She adjusted her glasses and started in, watching the blue text of code spring to life on the face of her VID lenses. Her hands moved in the intricate patterns she'd created for this complex style of coding and to the outside observer she looked much like she was conducting an armchair symphony. Knowing that Eoin could run interference if anyone thought her behaviour odd let Arysha delve into the coding more deeply. ~VID warn-me will if happen someone talk to me.~ Arysha momentarily thought dark thoughts at anyone who dared try. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Physics Lab - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam- 06:29) "Please, sir don't worry about me. Once I get to bed tonight, I'll be fine. Ensign T'Sar is ill right now, so we're all pulling extra shifts. I just spoke to Lt. Wright at breakfast this morning. She knows that I have several projects to attend to, but I assured her as I assure you now, I'm fine. Just tell me what you need me to do." Haynes nodded warily. "Ms. Tethlin is writing the code for the project and Commander Zzt is overseeing the experiments so what I really need you to concentrate on is monitoring the results with me, after we're satisfied we know everything we can wring from this quantum displacement weapon Harry and I are going to pull it all together then turn it over to you so that you can replicate the machinery needed to create it." "Right." Eoin got up, and slung the tool kit over his shoulder. Though he wouldn't need it, he still liked to keep a hold on it when he had it out. "That sounds good." Jack grinned. "We're not even to the fun part yet, after we recreate the technology to make it work we're going to work on measures to counteract it. I want to make sure the idea Maraht and I have enacted to use the ships structural integrity field is going to be effective and if not what better way there might be. You're our resident expert on machinery and so you get the job." Eoin nodded. "I'll do all I can to reverse engineer this weapon. Have you run any tests as of yet?" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Physics Lab - CSO, Lt. (jg) Jericho Haynes- 06:30) Eoin gave Jack a nod "I'll do all I can to reverse engineer this weapon. Have you run any tests as of yet?" "Yes we have." He replied. "Maraht, Lo'ren and I ran some tests several days ago that had catastrophic results as I pushed the experiment past the safety factor and mangled the test chamber. What we got was a self-sustaining subspace field that fed off the dilithium crystal matrix controlling the warp field after I mistakenly fed it too much power which as I'm sure you're aware is the reason for the elaborate safety precautions we are taking now. We have a lot of data from those tests but it's not sufficient to do what we want yet. Commander Zzt will be performing those tests personally while Harry, I and you monitor them." (Reply: Eoin) "Everything I have is on this PADD," Jack hefted the selfsame PADD he had been carrying with him all morning. "we also have the data we received from the Tch'kairn on their fractal space technology which should be of immense interest to you as it is the foundation of this technology as Harry and I recently found out. I'll get those resources to you as well since it will be very beneficial to your preliminary study." (Reply: Eoin) Jack handed over the PADD and leaned around Eoin to access the monitor. "Excuse me." Typing in the filename he quickly accessed the fractal space files. Standing back up he continued. "There you go, have fun. I'll be leaving shortly for some training exercises and return when those are done. Commander Zzt will be running the experiment while I'm gone, if you need anything else just ask, I'll be glad to supply it." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades- Holodeck- COUNS- Anamitra Ripley- 0756) "...I'll be sending you a session request schedule soon. I just thought you might want to know before it suddenly showed up in your mailbox." Ana stated. Haywood gave her a smile "Thanks for the heads-up counselor." There was an instant's pause. "Only if there're drinks involved." Ana smiled and gave a small chuckle. "I'm certain that we can arrange something. After all, it's a relaxed interview." "I beg your pardon Counselor..." Jack interrupted. Ana couldn't help but notice that the way he used the title was almost spiteful. "But I've only been on the ship for six months and my profile is quite up to date for the rest of the year. At the end of that time feel free to pull me from my important and pressing duties if you must." Ana raised a single eyebrow at the apparent passion that the Chief of Sciences seemed to display concerning his resistance the potential session with her. "Mister Haynes, I assure you, I'll do my utmost to minimally disrupt your schedule, however, you should realize that the session will no longer be optional considering your apparent disdain for a friendly little chat. I'll be sending you your schedule after this mission is concluded. Please make certain to make yourself available. The captain depends on me to see to it that his crew is functional and well adjusted. I take that responsibility very seriously." she replied evenly and without malice. Jack was bristling at the comments that she had made, but she believed in complete honesty. There was no reason to sugar coat the situation and if nothing else, perhaps her response would cause some introspection on Jericho's part. Rather than reply to her, Jack turned to the medical officer, "Thank you Haywood for your tender ministrations. I have some pressing business to attend to, if you'll excuse me Counselor." Ana nodded. "Of course, Lieutenant." A moment later, Jack was striding briskly away. Haywood stared after him for a moment before turning back to the counselor. "I - eh - I'm not sure what just happened there." He tried to explain. "That's quite alright Haywood. You don't need to understand it just yet. You just need to know that whatever is was Jack feels very strongly about it. That's an important thing to remember. I suspect that he's had a bad experience with other counselors in his career." She reached up and patted him on the shoulder gently. "I'm certain that everything will eventually work itself out for the better in the end. Jericho Haynes has a strong sense of self." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades- Holodeck- ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker- 0757) "That's quite alright Haywood. "I'm certain that everything will eventually work itself out for the better in the end. Jericho Haynes has a strong sense of self." Haywood looked at her out of the corner of his eye, still staring after Jack. "I guess healing takes time," He shrugged, "and some scars never go away." He finally dragged his gaze away from the trees. "I think I aught to make sure no one else needs attention," He smiled awkwardly, still feeling more than a bit foolish, "Can't have people bleeding all the way through the ship." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Holodeck 3, aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin, 1320) "Of course Lieutenant. The voice of someone who has experienced real combat is invaluable." Baylon nodded. "That it is, but No one survives real combat unless they pay close attention to their training. It's that training that will make all the difference in a real conflict." Walsh nodded, agreeing with what Baylon had said, adding, "You must always assume that the enemy will be better trained, stronger, faster, and smarter than you are. Even though Lieutenant Trinin and I seem invincible," He allowed the chuckles from the trainees. "I assure you, we are not." He stated flatly, showing the trainees the scars on his hands. The group became silent. "No we most assuredly are not." Baylon agreed. "In fact I have very nearly been killed a number of times in my career. And it was only my attention to the training principles that we're trying to convey to you during these simulations that I am still here to talk with you today." "All right, let's run it again. Lieutenant, would you like to combine our fire teams, or split up?" Walsh asked. "We'll run standard two team supported sweeps. You lead the point team and I'll lead the vanguard." Settle into supported fire when we make contact with the enemy and if you need to break contact we can fall back with a reverse leap frog maneuver. Split both teams into double lines, one at each side of the corridor for mutual support." "Aye, sir." "Bravo team, assemble in fire team pairs, to the corridor walls, " His people moved into position even as Alpha team was doing the same. Baylon stepped forward stepping up alongside Walsh. "I didn't realize you'd seen combat action ensign. I was led to believe that you didn't graduate from the academy until after the civil war had concluded." he asked. Robert chuckled, looking down at his hands. "You can read my file, it wasn't anything too exciting. I figured it would inspire them a bit more if I left it up to their imagination." He smiled impishly. Baylon nodded. "Not a bad ploy, I've done similar myself. Let's get these teams moving shall we?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Holodeck 3 - ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh - 1322) Baylon nodded. "Not a bad ploy, I've done similar myself. Let's get these teams moving shall we?" Walsh nodded, signaling to his team. They assumed the formation that Trinin had stated. "Computer, run simulation." Walsh took point, leading his team down the dimly lit hallway. He liked this simulation, it had been programmed to never act the same way twice, surprising the participants at every opportunity. He saw several Waagoshin step into the corridor, brandishing their claws. "Engage!" He shouted. They did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Science Lab One, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 20:57 hours.) "Yes, I understand, sir." MacLiam said in response to Kenny detailing the plan to allow the Hades to scan the Wagoshiin without detection. "However, I think we might be able to go about it another way, if you don't mind hearing a second opinion." They stopped. Kenny looked at MacLiam with wonder and curiously. Had he already come up with a plan, or did he have this for a while. If it was the former, then Kenny felt a little jealous. He shook his head, now was not the time for business rivalry. They had a job to do. "Yes, Ensign. Please explain." Kenny said, egger to hear the new plan. "Well, back in the 21st century, Earth scientists developed a way to send information via laser beam. My idea is based off that. I know that this has not bee attempted with infared before, but if we can somehow embed a scanning field in the heat escaping from the Hades, the heat bouncing back from the Waagoshin ship would give us the information we need. It won't give us a full scan on the first go-around, but it won't take as long to build up than the scanning bursts would take. Plus, it has the extra advantage that it will be amplified when it comes in contact with the Waagoshin ship and also when we receive the signal back." Kenny thought about this. He had heard of such a thing before. Of course, it was primitive in comparison to their normal sensors, but, in theory, they would gain more information and at a much faster rate than his idea to send out short pulse signal using the optical sensors. Plus, the heat emitting from the Hades is natural, and would look allot less like a scanning attempt. "Yes, Ensign. That's a better idea. Do what you have to do and request all the help you need, I will, however, have a small team working on my idea, on the off chance that yours fails. I'd rather have a back-up in case." (reply Ensign MacLaim) "I will help personally if you need it, just call on me. So, what will you need ot do first?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Deck Six, Science Lab One, ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam, 20:58) "Yes, I understand, sir." Eoin said in response to McKenzie's detailing the plan to allow the Hades to scan the Wagoshiin without detection. "However, I think we might be able to go about it another way, if you don't mind hearing a second opinion." They stopped. McKenzie looked at him curiously. "Yes, Ensign. Please explain." Kenny said, seeming intrigued by Eoin's plan. "Well, back in the 21st century, Earth scientists developed a way to send information via laser beam. My idea is based off that. Eventually, he spoke. "Yes, Ensign. That's a better idea. Do what you have to do and request all the help you need, I will, however, have a small team working on my idea, on the off chance that yours fails. I'd rather have a back-up in case." "No worries, sir. I will get a team on it immediately." "I will help personally if you need it, just call on me. So, what will you need ot do first?" "Well," Eoin started, "the first thing to do is to create the code to input into the computer to initiate the protocol. After that, it's just a matter of tying it into the environmental systems in order for the signal to be transmitted via the heat escaping the Hades. So, it should be simple." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Science Lab One, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 2103) "Well, the first thing to do is to create the code to input into the computer to initiate the protocol. Just give me a call if you need any help from me." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 21:15) Eoin came into Main Engineering, and finally changed out of his engineering jumpsuit and put his tools away. He then walked over to the replicator. "Tea, Earl Grey, two sugars, hot." He then took his fifth cup of tea that day over to his workstation, and opened a new file. "Computer, begin coding sequence under the name 'Mac Liam Seven Epsilon..." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Eoin's Quarters - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 22:34) Eoin came through the door of his quarters, relieved to finally be back. He wasted no time in taking off his uniform, and getting in bed. Within five minutes, Eoin Mac Liam was fast asleep. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2408.07.27 (USS Hades - Ensign Walsh's Quarters - ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh - 0301) Robert couldn't sleep. This would be his first real foray into a potential combat situation. He was nervous. And the message he had received from Earth wasn't helping. Apparently his mother was sick. He had received the message from his sister, Poppy, and she always sugar-coated things. ~She might already be dead by now. God, I'm morbid.~ Robert rolled onto his side, reminding himself that he needed to focus on the mission, personal thoughts could come later. He remembered fondly his mother's insistence for him to enroll in the academy. She had wanted him to be what he wanted to be. He hoped he would get to communicate with her soon, and that it wasn't too late. He slowly began to hum an old earth tune, "Wooden Ships," until he fell asleep. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Ten Forward - ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh - 0635) "You know, hit a teddy bear or two. The most you can do it scratch yourself on a loose eye." Haywood chuckled, and Walsh smiled in return. ~I like this guy, good sense of humor.~ "So, tell me Rob, what do you do when you aren't killing holographic Waagoshins." Haywood said with a smile. "Shoulda got a fork," he mumbled. Robert was surprised, this was the first time anyone on the Hades had asked about his personal life. He had been so wrapped up in the current crisis, he had almost forgot that he had interests (other than reading the occasional Andorian play). "Well, uh, I like to read." He paused awkwardly for a moment. What did he like to do? "Me Rob. Me security. Ug. That's about all I have for now." (reply Parker) Robert chuckled. "What about you?" (reply Parker) "Nice." He stood, realizing that he was due at his duty station soon. "Um, well, it was good to meet you, we should, uh, hang out sometime." (reply Parker) He walked toward the exit, realizing that he needed to brush up on his people skills. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Ten Forward - ACMO Ensign Haywood Parker - 0636) "Well, uh, I like to read." Walsh paused... "Me Rob. Me security. Ug. That's about all I have for now." Haywood grinned and let is spoon fall to the side of his bowl. He'd struggle with it later. Robert chuckled. "What about you?" Haywood shrugged, "A bit of this, a bit of that. A bit of a beach bum, at heart, though, I guess. There's only so much a holodeck can do for you when you miss the ocean." He shrugged again. "Nice." Walsh slowly stood, with an expression on his face that indicated a prior engagement. "Um, well, it was good to meet you, we should, uh, hang out sometime." Haywood resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow. It was a bit of an awkward way to duck out of a conversation. Not that he didn't understand being awkward seeing as he was becoming the new king of uncomfortable silences. "That'd be nice," He nodded, "I hope I haven't made you late." (reply Walsh iyw) As Walsh stalked toward the exit and Haywood reached out to continue his battle with his spoon, it suddenly dawned on him how long this day was going to be... ~Not if I have anything to say about it.~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Bridge - ASEC Ensign (jg) Robert Walsh - 0926) Robert whistled silently to himself as he manned the Security station on the bridge of the Hades. He was curious as to what was going to happen today, and he felt as if his team was far from ready to face an incursion with the Waagoshin. ~But, we'll just have to make due.~ Lieutenant Trinin was working with Ensign T'Vof, and Robert nodded silently to them. He checked the new security protocols for the 27th time, and sighed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0938) Lo'ren felt a smug happiness flowing from Jack and looked over as his voice came over her commbadge, =/\=Lo'ren we've got data coming your way on the Graelridge's main weapon and her ion drive, have fun with it.=/\= Turning to her console she watched the information flow along. Smiling she responded, "Thanks Jack, looks like good stuff to me. Lo'ren out." She began typing in commands to the system to set up simulations that she could run and turned to adapting her current repetoire of attack and defense patterns to the new information. She felt Jack's mood sour momentarily and looked over at him quizzically. Not seeing what could have caused this dip in his mood she shrugged it off. ~I'll ask him later... maybe in our quarters.~ She smiled at that thought but quickly turned back to the job at hand. She looked over at the secondary tac station and saw that Baylon was seated there, she signalled him to come over. (reply Baylon) "Jack just sent me some interesting tactical data on the Graelridge. Care to help me with some attack patterns?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 0940) The Security Chief swung his chair around to face the main view screen again after completing another materials analysis of the Waagoshin vessel. There was a huge mountain of new data coming in from the modified sensors thanks to the hard work of the science and engineering team. He was looking for definitive signs that the vessel had been repaired or was suffering from long term operation. Small details like micro fractures caused by high speed maneuvers had become apparent, which gave Baylon an even better idea of the ship's maneuvering limits. His eyes looked at the awkward design of the Graelridge while keeping in mind the latest structural analysis. Those weapons pods were added long after the vessel was originally commissioned. And they showed signs of having been moved from a different ship prior to their installation. Originally, it seemed, the Graelridge had not been equipped with those particular weapons pods in mind. His peripheral vision caught a motion from Lo'ren and Baylon nodded, quickly secured his console and stepped across the bridge to the primary Tactical station. "Did you need something Ensign?" He asked all business on the bridge. "Jack just sent me some interesting tactical data on the Graelridge. Care to help me with some attack patterns?" She replied. "Certainly, what sort of attack patterns did you have in mind?" He responded with yet another question. "I'm not as familiar with the tri-vector mode, I'd appreciate some help there." Baylon nodded. "That's not surprising," he told her, " Since the Hades is the First Prometheus Class starship that you've been assigned to. You'd be surprised how few tactical officers have the foresight to really grasp the entire capability of the Tri-vector mode." "May I?" he asked indicating the console. (reply Lo'ren) Baylon stepped forward and entered a few parameters that he and Ranae had helped develop under Captain Saleke for the Battle of Beta Seranis III. "I wouldn't call myself the best tactical officer where the Tri-Vector is concerned, but this ship's previous CTAC, Lieutenant Ammon was absolutely brilliant. And we both had the advantage of working with captain Saleke when he was in command here. He has a very sharp tactical mind and really understood the limitations and proper uses of the Tri-vector capabilities of the Hades. I learned a great many things under their tutelage. A great many of our original training programs are still here." He stepped back from the console motioning for Lo'ren to resume her position. "I suggest running the tight formation attack patterns first, to give yourself a firm grounding in combined firepower and mutual vector defense formations that the Prometheus is capable of, after you feel you have a good grasp of the basic patterns move to the extended formation patterns such as the Epsilon and the Sigma attack series., so you can see how the placement of the individual sections in the formation changes their application and usefulness. After that go to the open formation and independent attack formations and patterns." "You'll be able to run through the basics and the extended, you'll be ready for combat simulations. I just completed a materials and structure analysis of the Graelridge, which will probably greatly alter any simulated model you have in use currently. Let me update it and then you can run several attack pattern scenarios so you can see how the various patterns work against the simulated Waagoshin vessel." "Is that what you had in mind?" he asked in conclusion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0941) Baylon nodded. "That's not surprising," he told her, " Since the Hades is the First Prometheus Class starship that you've been assigned to. You'd be surprised how few tactical officers have the foresight to really grasp the entire capability of the Tri-vector mode." "May I?" he asked indicating the console. "By all means." Lo'ren stepped away, giving Lt. Trinin access to the console and she watched his work. Baylon brought up a number of tactical patterns that looked downright fun to Lo'ren and gave a rundown of when and who had developed them. Lo'ren listened attentively as she looked over his shoulder. He spoke about a good regimen to familiarize her with the various levels ofattack and defense formations and then mentioned all the new data they were receiving. "Is that what you had in mind?" he asked in conclusion. Lo'ren smiled, "Yes, and more than I expected. Thank you." She resumed her post and started keying in some of the information so she could run a couple more simulations in the T.I.H.S. She looked up at Baylon and smiled with a glint in her eye, "Thank you, Lieutenant. This should keep me busy for a while." (reply Trinin) Lo'ren did have a Vulcan side and she let it take the lead here, "I woulld like to do some reading on the various theories behind these tactics, could you recommend anything? Did Captain Saleke or Lt. Ammon leave anything?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 0943) She looked up at Baylon and smiled with a glint in her eye, "Thank you, Lieutenant. This should keep me busy for a while." Baylon smiled than nodded. "Any time I can be of assistance Ensign T'Vof, you have need only to ask." "I would like to do some reading on the various theories behind these tactics, could you recommend anything? Did Captain Saleke or Lt. Ammon leave anything?" She asked him. ~Just me~ he wanted to say, but repressed the urge. "Well, nothing on a essay or dissertation level." He finally replied, " "But both Captain Saleke and Lieutenant Ammon were very careful about keeping detailed simulations recorded. All of their tactical Simulations as well as the ship's actual trivector logs are available. I've even rendered the log data from Beta Seranis into a simulation. For tactical review. Its available in the Holodeck library." "If you're looking for tactical theory and assessment dissertations, there were several dozen written during the civil war. The Prometheus class saw a great deal of combat during those engagements and performed quite well. Now that we are a reunited fleet, you should be able to get copies of those ship's battle logs and run simulations. And the ship's Library should have all the writings available as well." He answered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0944) Lo'ren listened again as her direct superior pointed her in the right directions for boning up on tri-vector combat simulations. He mentioned the civil war and the theoretical information that had been partially disseminated during that time. She nodded, "Yes, I recall a couple of theoreticals filtering through to the Academy." (reply Baylon iyw) She shook her head, "Unfortunately, along with the blackouts about familial information, there was often blackout regarding the war. Doenitz had a stranglehold on Sol System much of the time and I think he tried to isolate us in an attempt to brainwash Cadets into following him. Personally, I remained clear-headed and against Doenitz because frankly," Lo'ren chuckled bitterly, "Doenitz was mild compared to some of the tactics plied on me as a child." Lo'ren lost focus on the present day as her mind, still recovering from the previous day, slung her back to a mental picture of her childhood. (Bajor - Rakantha Province, Mining Camp, Supervisor Gul Tark's Quarters -Ari Lo'ren T'Vof) The ugly, slimy Cardassian was right in her face. His breath stank of kanaar and Lo'ren fought against wrinkling her nose, knowing it would only bring her worse than what she would receive otherwise. "You know... I like you girly." His words were slurred as he drew her closer, roughly handling her in all the wrong ways. Lo'ren continued to stare at the floor. She deserved her treatment and he would exact what he wanted. Lo'ren had learned not to fight when Tark called her to his rooms. "It's your ears, they're so... exotic." He chuckled as he tugged on one, trying to get a reaction from his little subject. Lo'ren made no move, knowing that her heritage, that she was at fault in this. She spoke blandly, no emotion colouring her words - either with fear, disgust or acceptance. "Yes, Gul Tark. I am too tempting because I am different." She spouted the words that had been brainwashed into her for several months. He punched her in the side of the head for that. "You didn't have permission to speak!" he growled at her as he spun her around. He held her by the neck as he prepared to meet out her punishment. Bile began to rise in her throat but the 7 year old girl swallowed it before it came up. ~Dear Prophets, it's my fault.~ Her mind shut down as Tark started into what he felt was his right. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0944.5) Lo'ren came to with a start and shuddered. She wrapped her arms around herself and replaced the awful memory with a mental picture of Jack. ~My love.~ A moment of awkward silence passed before Lo'ren was able to compose herself. She bit the side of her lip and looked at Lt. Trinin apologetically, "Sorry, memories are close to the surface because of my mistake yesterday." (reply Trinin) "Thank you for the leads, I'll make sure to look into that simulation. "Lo'ren turned back to her console, determined to study and shoved away the horrid feelings that crawled on her skin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 0945) She nodded, "Yes, I recall a couple of theoreticals filtering through to the Academy." She replied with a nod. "No surprise there, since the Prometheus class was one of the class of starships that we didn't have a huge shortage of at the time." Of course he was referring to the 52nd Fleet, not the Starfleet as a whole. "And I believe that Utopia and several of the other primary shipyards were building them also in an attempt to even out the numbers. I would think there had been plenty of information concerning them available." She shook her head, "Unfortunately, along with the blackouts about familial information, there was often blackout regarding the war. Doenitz had a strangle hold on Sol System much of the time and I think he tried to isolate us in an attempt to brainwash Cadets into following him. Personally, I remained clear-headed and against Doenitz because frankly," Lo'ren chuckled bitterly, "Doenitz was mild compared to some of the tactics plied on me as a child." Baylon started to nod in understanding when he was suddenly overcome with a sense of fear and disgust. The emotional deluge was so sudden and so strong that it took Baylon a moment to realize where the emotional flood was coming from. He blinked his eyes slowly as he tried to refocus his thoughts and order his mental defenses. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue, but Lo'ren's feelings of self-debasement and a host of other emotions was so strong and completely unexpected that he had been caught completely unawares. Mental impressions flashed into his head, despite the fact that he was trying to block them out. His mental discipline was wavering under the pure raw emotion of the events as he struggled to protect himself from the snippets of horrible memory that was presenting itself to him. Flash. A female child standing in a room. A Cardassian Male running his fingers over her ears. Flash. A fist to the side of his/her face. A quiet whimper. A realization of things to come. Flash. A violation of self. Rough hands grabbing and groping forcefully where they should not be. Flash. The bridge of the Hades. As quickly as the images and emotions had flooded over him, spilling over the normal defenses that he used every day, the experience had ended. He was disoriented. His brain still scrambling to comprehend and separate her thoughts emotions and memories from his own. He reached one hand out to the edge of the console to steady himself, even as his knees threatened to buckle under his weight. He glanced over to see if Lo'ren was alright. She was standing in front of the console. Her arms wrapped around herself as if they were somehow warding off the memory that had just assailed her. Baylon took a deep breath as the last of the residual memories and emotions that she had unexpectedly projected were finally purged from his mind. Or rather, that their immediate effects had been purged. A moment of awkward silence passed before Lo'ren was able to compose herself. She bit the side of her lip and looked at Lt. Trinin apologetically, "Sorry, memories are close to the surface because of my mistake yesterday." ~My Mistake?~ He repeated to himself mentally. ~Oh yes, the instinctual Telepathic spike that caused a feedback.~ The memory of hearing of it came to him now. He nodded once, noting that already a terrible headache was growing at his temples. ~I'll have to be better prepared around her in the future, at least until she can garner some semblance of control.~ he reminded himself. "It's alright no harm done." he replied, "At least not to me." Either she had not understood what he had said or she chose that moment to ignore the implications of his words. She quickly changed the subject, turning back towards the console with a renewed sense of purpose. "Thank you for the leads, I'll make sure to look into that simulation." Baylon regarded her for an instant before giving her another of his trademarked short nods. "If you need any help, I'm here Ensign." he said, meaning not only professionally with the simulations, but also to help her learn to balance her skills with mental discipline. As it was he glanced over towards the first officer, whom was also a Betazoid and wondered why she had not managed to pick up on Lo'ren's temporary loss of control. ~perhaps distance? Maybe she was better prepared than I was?~ he pondered. (reply Lo'ren iyw) Baylon turned and headed back to his console, to continue his scans. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0946) The Betazoid looked at her meaningfully before nodding. "If you need any help, I'm here Ensign." After that, he glanced at Straton with a perplexed look, causing Lo'ren to glance too. She made the connection. ~Oh Grozit, he HEARED that Mutt.~ Lo'ren's face flushed with embarassment as she became fully aware again. She began to stammer as her eyes grew a little wider. "I'm... I'm sorry, sir." Lo'ren lost her ability to speak; unable to explain, she almost reached out to touch him and snatched her hand back, reminding herself why she was appologizing in the first place. She'd become good at hiding her flashes at the Academy because she'd managed to avoid most of the full telepaths in her class. Sitting at the back of a lecture hall when there was a telepathic teacher didn't hurt either. Her bouts were more frequent these days. ~Two flashes in as many days Mutt, what's going on?~ (reply Baylon iyw) She looked down at her console again, this time to compose herself for real. "Lieutenant? Request permission to take an hour for meditation." (reply Baylon) She secured her console and made her way to the turbolift, glacing back atJack and wondering how much of her turmoil he could feel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 0947) She must have realized what had happened because suddenly she was stammering as her eyes grew a little wider. "I'm... I'm sorry, sir." Lo'ren went silent, she almost reached out to touch him and snatched her hand back, as if afraid that she'd lose control again. The Betazoid security officer actually understood her situation better than she would think. As a child he had a significant difficulty controlling his own abilities. It had taken very specialized training and a great many years to finally gain the control that he had. he could still remember his father sending for Vulcan and Ullian teachers in an attempt to find a discipline that could help Baylon lead a normal Betazoid life. As she looked down at her console again, Baylon strengthened his metal barriers and placed his left hand on her right hand as she gripped the edge of the tactical station console. The action more than anything else showed her that he still trusted her. It was a very uncommon act to make considering what had just happened, but he had witnessed a very personal aspect of who she was. He felt that he should at least show her that he understood and that he had compassion for her. To do otherwise would only worsen the problem. "Lieutenant? Request permission to take an hour for meditation." she requested. Baylon smiled at her then, in an almost fatherly way, despite the fact that she was the elder between them. "Permission granted Ensign T'Vof." Baylon replied, before gently removing his hand from her skin. She wasted no time at all, securing her console and made her way to the turbo lift, glancing back as the doors closed. Once she was gone, Baylon wondered inwardly if he should mention the incident to the Ship's counselor. After only a moment's deliberation, he decided against it and instead returned to his console to continue his work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, FO Commander Eva Straton, 0948) Eva had been reading over departmental readiness reports when the wave of powerful emotions hit her causing her mental shields to reflexively snap into full force. It didn't take her long to pinpoint the center ofthe emotional turmoil though. She didn't turn in her seat to look at the culprit. ~T'Vof once more.~ Eva listened in on the conversation between Lt. Trinin and Ensign T'Vof while pretending to still be reading the PADD in her hands. She waited until T'Vof had asked to be excused and left the Bridge and Lt. Trinin had returned to his station. ::She needs training,:: Eva sent to Trinin, still not turning to look at him. ::This is the second incident in nearly as many days where she has either misused or lost control of her abilities. A telepathic attack on a hologram that could have seriously harmed someone and now this. We can not afford a telepathic loose cannon on the ship. Work with her. Teach her to better shield her emotions from those around her and keep me informed of your progress. Consult Ensign Ripley if you feel it is necessary.:: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 0949) He had just settled into his seat when he could feel the presence of another mind making itself known to him. It didn't take but a moment to realize that it was the first Officer. While most non-telepathic species, and a few telepathic ones, would consider this to be a breach of personal protocol, most Betazoids did not believe that to be the truth. In fact, more often than not, Betazoids shared their thoughts with each other, usually without reservation. It was because of this that there were no wars and almost no crime to speak of on their planet. After all, how could you commit a crime without the entire population of the planet finding out within moments? And with that level of cultural understanding came a willingness to trust others of the species. Certainly Betazoids had been trained to shield their thoughts and they had been trained to respect the private thoughts of other species. In fact all Betazoids applicants had to undergo special training before they could even join the academy. ::She needs training,:: Eva's voice said to him. ::This is the second incident in nearly as many days where she has either misused or lost control of her abilities. A telepathic attack on a hologram that could have seriously harmed someone and now this.:: Baylon kept his face impassive as he continued to look at his console display. There was a good reason that Commander Straton had chosen to impart her opinion and orders to him in this manner. It was because she did not want to share this information with everyone on the bridge. ::We can not afford a telepathic loose cannon on the ship. Work with her. Teach her to better shield her emotions from those around her and keep me informed of your progress. Consult Ensign Ripley if you feel it is necessary.:: ::I understand Commander.:: Baylon sent back to her. ::I'll do all that I can to help her. I'll make arrangements to work on mental disciplines with her at the earliest possible time. I'll most assuredly keep you appraised of her progress, or lack thereof.:: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Corridor, Deck 3 - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0950) Lo'ren's hands shook as she rubbed at the back of her hand where Baylon had laid his own. The boldness of his touch served not only to tell her he still regarded her as trustworthy, but underscored - at least for her - how very far she had yet to go in her training, despite the years she'd tried to train on Vulcan. She thought his help in this area might not be a bad idea, but for now she needed solitude. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Personal Quarters, Deck 3 - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof -0951) She walked through her door and was taken aback by the 4 empty carry containers and small antigrav parked in the middle of the floor. ~New Quarters, right. The Quartermaster works fast.~ Lo'ren skirted the boxes and located the large floor pillow she used for meditation. She sank down into a lotus pose and pressed her hands into the traditional two-fingered meditative pose. Before closing her eyes her gaze landed on her belaklavion. She smiled lightly and thought of those happy days at the conservatory and her teachers there; they'd always stressed that practice would only enhance her natural abilities. ~Ah, Little Bird. Music in you comes from the PAGH. You are notjust skilled - you are gifted with music.~ Lo'ren thought Master Hedric might be more true in his assessment than he realized. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Mindscape - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0952) Entering into her own mindscape, Lo'ren had to catch her breath as she was hit with the reality of her mental energies. Her mindscape was populated with sounds, shapes and colours - some clashing, others melding together in a vast mural-song of her life. The symphony that was her core of being was heard only faintly as her wounds sounded in clashing discord, demanding attention. Lo'ren reached out with her essence and 'played' the instruments that represented her early years. She didn't try to force the notes into what she thought they ought to be, rather she listened, accepted and changed her playing to accomodate the chords. In this way, Lo'ren lessened the clash while acknowledging her history. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Personal Quarters, Deck 3 - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof -1020) She came out of her meditative trance and checked the time with the computer. "Computer, current time." The computer chimed and returned the requested information. [The time is currently 1020 hours.] Lo'ren grinned, she had enough time left in her hour to pack away a few items in preparation to transport them over to their quarters. ~Our quarters. I like that.~ She began picking up items and depositing them in the boxes as she instructed the computer. "Computer, notify me when the time is 1045 hours." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Tch'Kair, Orbital station- Control center - Waagoshin Commander Alpha 1 and Captain Devan Sash- 1645) Alpha 1 had immediately regretted sending his prize slave to the planet for work on the garrison's security systems, her technical expertise was advanced beyond the abilities of his own technicians. Klk'shis had become more of a pet than a slave in the twelve years since he had bought her using his rank and privilege to acquire her obvious skills. That did not mean he was lax in his masterly duties, holding her to the letter of the law in regards to submission and obedience. There was nothing sexual between them as their physiologies were vastly different but he counted on her abilities heavily. As he had ordered she had directed traffic deftly from the station and rerouted them so that the Graelridge and the Hades held priority status for orbital maneuvering. Since those orders the two ships had slipped into orbital vector. During his conversation with Graffna he had learned of some enticing possibilities locked within this alien starship and thirsted to explore them, Graffna had also mentioned that the commander of the alien starship had the looks of an apt and skillful as well as determined opponent. Together they had hatched a plan that would bring this intriguing alien into his clutches so that both he and his ship could be dealt with more readily. It was time to put their scheme into motion. "Open communications with the alien ship." The Waagoshin manning the communications station in Klk'shis' stead growled in agreement but it took an unheard of twenty or thirty seconds for him to find the Hades' communications frequency, Klk'shis would have had it done in a third of that time. The Waagoshin known only as Alpha 1 by decree fumed anxiously until the technician spoke again. "Frequency to the Hades is open." "It is about time." Alpha 1 snarled angrily at the tech who cringed at the bristling commander. "Do you have the ability to determine if they are answering?" The tech seemed to shrink in upon himself in fear as he caught sight of the blinking tell. "They are responding." "On the viewer." Alpha 1 snorted. Sash appeared and looked upon the scene on the Waagoshin station. Things seemed a little tense. Sash, however, needed to remain alert, and most of all, in some form of an aggressive posture, as though he were willing to die, and kill, for the sake of their position. =^=This is Captain Sash of the Hades, what are you bothering me about now?=^= The Waagoshin Commander's manner immediately changed, his ears which had been nearly flattened against his head perked up attentively and he gave the alien Captain a toothy though wicked grin. ~Perhaps Graffna is right, it would be a pleasure to do battle with such a one.~ "Captain Sash all is in readiness for your arrival, I propose an exchange of officers as a goodwill gesture between your peoples and mine. Commander Graffna has assured me you are a reasonable and committed officer and I believe our cultures would be enriched by such an exchange." In such a manner had the Waagoshin insinuated themselves into the graces of the Tch'kairn nearly two centuries ago, by pretending to be peaceful and benign. "I await your reply on the matter." Sash took a deep breath and tried to give the air of thinking over his decision. Of course, internally this was the greatest of ideas. These Waagoshin seemed predatory, but not suicidal, so having a contingent of them on the ship would provide, at the least, some security in the thought that they would be attacked from other ships. Internally, it would be another matter all together. Also, to get an opportunity to observe a "First Contact" species first hand should prove to be more than many of the crew had hoped for. This was what being in Starfleet was all about, as far as Devan Sash was concerned. He already knew that he would hear about it from Baylon Trinin, but as soon as the offer was made Sash also knew what his answer was going to be. The delay was really just for show. =^=Although Commander Graffna's opinion of me is flattering, it is of no consequence. You will find that I am "reasonable", until it is time to no longer be reasonable. Your offer is... acceptable. I agree that such an exchange would be mutually beneficial. Please send me a list of the officers that you will be sending over and I will do likewise. I... look forward to our continued diplomacy. Hades out.=^= Alpha 1 leaned back with a smirk on his face after the communication had ended, it had gone almost too well, the Captain had been quick to agree to his plan. "Send the roster made out by Commander Graffna to the alien ship." "Aye sir." The officer snarled and turned to the task, after it was completed he turned to the Sector Commander. "Roster is away Alpha 1." "Good." The Sector Commander crooned. "Send the following orders to the Graelridge, the insertion team is to target the engineering and science officers for extraction and to kill as many of their tactical group as they can when the order is given. Captain Sash is the primary target, I want him alive and unharmed if possible. If not kill him." "Aye Commander." There was a gloating showing of teeth on the communications techs face as he relayed the orders, the earlier confrontation with Alpha 1 forgotten at the thought of bloodletting and conquest. The Waagoshin in the control room shared in the anticipation of victory and its rewards as well as the acquisition of new slaves for the pack and alien technology. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades- Bridge - Captain Devan Sash- 1647) Sash took a deep breath and stretched out his back and shoulders as he stood. This was going to be... precarious at best. He did not trust these Waagoshin, in the least. Their offer for a "cultural exchange", although a wonderful opportunity, also gave him pause. He doubted that the offer was made with the best intentions. However, he also knew that this was an option and they had already taken measures to this scenario. He turned and looked at Eva Straton. With a nod he said, "Commander, assemble your team." Straton returned the nod and called for her team to meet in transporter room 2. As she walked away Sash got a strange feeling that he this might be the last time he sees Eva Straton. "Good luck Commander," he threw in as the door to the turbo lift closed. Sash turned to Trinin. "Lieutenant, have a small welcoming party waiting for our guests and bring them to the Observation Lounge." He then turned to Ops seat, "Lt. Maraht, I would like you to be with me in the lounge when they arrive." (reply Maraht) He tapped his comm badge, "Sash to Dr. Trommashere and Lt. Wright, please meet me in the Observation Lounge in ten minutes. Sash out." With that Sash sat and took one more look at the station orbiting the planet before heading to the Lounge. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades- Personal Quarters - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 1648) Angeni was sitting quietly in her quarters, catching up on reading the lines inside her eyelids. She hadn't slept well the past night, she was still getting reverberations from when Lo'ren entered her mind. It was like a ripple in a puddle. Flashes came to her of the last time it happened, and she couldn't keep them away no matter how hard she tried. She found sleeping in spurts kept the nightmares away, but what she really wanted was to be in Harry's arms, safe and secure. She felt like she had been neglecting him. She had been so busy with her work that she hadn't even dropped him a note. She knew her feelings for him were rapidly expanding, hell, she didn't even feel like this when her and Mason were an item, let alone anyone or anything else. She found herself thinking more of Harry each day. Neither of them had come out and said anything to the effect of this being a...long term thing. She had been burnt...badly in her past, and as far as Harry was concerned, this was his first relationship. She was afraid to push him too far too quickly. She wanted him to make the first step if he wished... As she stretched in her chair, she heard her voice being called over the comm system. "Sash to Dr. Trommashere and Lt. Wright, please meet me in the Observation Lounge in ten minutes. Sash out." Angeni smiled at his voice. It had been a while since she had seen him. Sure she had seen him in passing here and there, but he always looked preoccupied and she rarely spoke. At the same time, she noted something...off...about his tone. Standing, she answered the call, and she shrugged on her lab coat. She opened a desk drawer, and she pulled out a brand new container of the Rose Honey drops they had shared during a meeting in Sickbay. She remembered him liking them, and she had just gotten a new stash in, and she figured she'd bring some to him. As she walked out the door, she glanced back at her med kit, and for a moment, she debated on grabbing it, but she decided otherwise. It sounded like it was just going to be a friendly meeting, so she looked once more at her kit before she let the doors hiss shut behind her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - aCTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1650) As much as Baylon was displeased with the fact that the Captain had disregarded his concerns for the officer exchange, at least Sash had not decided to go over to the Waagoshin ship himself. As it was, Baylon still wasn't thrilled with the fact that the First officer was transporting over to the other vessel along with a good number of the Hades' important staff. Still Sash was the Commanding Officer, and Baylon had done his duty by pointing out his concerns. Beyond that, there wasn't much else that the Security Chief could do except be as prepared to pull the fat from the fire as soon as possible once it fell in. Baylon watched as Straton and her group from the bridge left on their way to the Transporter room. ::Call me if you need anything Commander.:: Baylon sent after her, ::I'll be here, ready to assist.:: (reply Straton) Turning to Baylon, the captain began issuing his orders to some of the remaining ship's officer corps. "Lieutenant, have a small welcoming party waiting for our guests and bring them to the Observation Lounge." Baylon gave a single nod. "Aye captain. On my way there now." Baylon turned on his heels, nodded to one of the bridge specialists to take the Tactical Station, while he headed down to Transporter Room 1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ end compile
