Lo'ren was at the secondary Tactical station reviewing the night shift tactical logs; a rather boring venture as the only real activity happened to be an uncharted nebula. ~That ought to give astrometrics a boost.~ The task of reviewing the logs gave her the extra opportunity to relax and build her mental walls. Ever since meeting with Straton, Lo'ren had been paying particular attention to this aspect of life - much too long neglected. Baylon was over at Tac I, possibly gauging her performance but she couldn't tell from his facial expression. About two thirds of the way into the logs, the activity on the bridge picked up rapidly. McKenzie at the science station even had Captain Sash on his feet. Priority information started flashing on Lo'ren's main panel and she shoved the night logs elsewhere - the routine stuff could be checked out later. The slow swirl of the space debris was almost... beautiful, if not for the vaccuum frozen body parts floating next to jagged hull bits. Lo'ren registered the chatter on the bridge and noted the parts that were of interest - either by fascination or by Tactical interest and defense priority. The yellow alert only made her heart beat slightly faster - like moving from moderato to allegro in a musical score. As she viewed the data and supervised check-ins from the various Tac stations now manned by a Yellow Alert call - not all of them, but she was pleased that the teams had stepped up. ~Quick responses like that against the Borg and we may just get off a few extra shots before they manage to adapt, I'll have to let Baylon know.~ She looked up when she had seen enough from her station. "Captain, I'd like a crack at that material in the Cargo Bay too - if it's alright. If that debris is as old as we guess it to be, the technology we will face won't be this simple. I want to prepare by extrapolating possible advances to this stuff giving us a wider range of possibilty to defend against." Lo'ren's mind was running in circles with possibilities on the battle debris. ~Never expect a shift to be normal, Mutt. That's the lesson of the day.~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Biophysics Lab - SciO- Ens Harry Doorman - 0839) ~ And then we complete the Feldman Equation set with the iteration of the Velar theorem~ Harry was thinking even as he was working on a new set of equations to help refine the resolution of the Fractal event horizon for recreation. His console chirped letting him know that he had a waiting message. He glanced over at the messenger feature and saw that the message was from Angeni. He immediately forgot everything that he had been working on for the last half hour and rushed to open the message. It was simple. [ Hey there! Duty calls, so I'll probably not be able to make it to lunch, I apologize. Maybe we can get together for dinner later, let me know. Have a good day, Me. ] Harry smiled. His day had gotten brighter- not because she had cancelled lunch, that was a bit of a downer, but with the knowledge that she had chosen to send him a message and had indicated that she wanted to spend time with him. It was a sort of Euphoria that had been carrying him along these last few days. He had no reason to think that they wouldn't continue to do so for a long time to come. He hurriedly typed his reply. [ Angeni. That's understandable, duty calls. I probably need the time to work on the equations anyway. I'd love to have dinner tonight, how does 1830 sound? Barring any issues that should work for me. Love, Harry ] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 0840) Just as she was about to leave her office, she heard her computer ding. She hurried back over, reading through the message. Her heart skipped a beat or two, but she hurriedly put her unemotional doctor face on, while her heart was still singing from several days prior. 1830 sounds wonderful. I will see you then. She paused for a moment, trying to decide how to close out her message. She looked over the console to see that everyone was gathered, waiting for her, and she just smiled as she finished off her message I'll meet you in your quarters, and we'll decide from there if it's Ten Forward, the Holodeck, or dinner in. L, Me With that, she sent the message off, and she hurried out to where the bodies were going to arrive at any moment. After giving those around her the PPE lecture, she asked for the bodies to be sent to them. In a moment, the carapaces materialized on the biobeds. All around her, people moved into action. Each of the four bodies were marked with a luminescent spot of various colors: Blue, Red, White, and Black. All of the labs and samples taken would be put onto slides and test tubes of the appropriate color. Angeni clicked on her mini recorder, attached to her collar, and she methodically verbalized everything about the scene before her. "Here we have body code Blue, Unknown age, unknown gender, species possibly Tch'carin. We have linear scratches and gouges across the victims' exoskeleton. Other than that, the exoskeleton looks in relatively good condition." She started taking photos of the bodies, methodically turning them over, taking pictures of each scratch, gouge, whatever. She noted that everything so far looked strictly like Exoskeleton. Nothing that was actual flesh had remained. As she looked, poked, and prodded, she recorded everything for recordings' sake. She turned one back over so it was laying on what she could figure was its back. She cut into a portion of what she assumed was the thorax...or the abdomen, and she looked into the hole she created. She moved in slowly, reaching her hand inside the hole. She moved slowly, feeling ridges and grooves on the inside, and she gasped aloud when she grasped a hard, round object. She pulled it out of the hole, holding it up to the light. It felt heavy in her hand, more so than the rest of the body. She grabbed a container, putting it inside. She put her arm back in, pulling out all the "baseballs" that she could, twelve in all. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, CSO's office, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 09:04 hours) "Very good Ensign, get right on it. I'll expect a report by this evening. Dismissed." "Aye, Sir. You'll have it then." Kenny got up from his chair and walked out. He smiled. Now he had to put his plan into practice. He thought about what he would do, and believed that the best course of action was to get the other officers of the departments together for a quick meeting so that everyone knew what to do. He decided that some of the best people to help would be Harry Doorman. Kenny thought that he would be best to locate the battle site, with his expert knowledge of numbers and mathematics, working with scanners should be no prob. Kenny also thought that contacting Angei so that he could get help from the medical staff. He tapped his COMM badge =/\="Ensign McKenzie to Ensign Doorman."=/\= (Reply Ensign Doorman) =/\="I'd like to arrange a meeting with the Science Department to analyse the data we took from the battlefield and to understand the debris we took aboard. "Understood Sir. I'll see you then." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Shuttle Hailey, Docking with USS Hades, ATAC Ensign (jg) Relin Yanek, ACEOEnsign (jg) T'sar, ATT Lt. Commander Zzt, 0921) Yanek had managed to keep the conversation to a bare minimum. Although bear had been the word that kept cropping up. Lt. Commander Zzt had a remarkable capacity when it came to repairing, and device maintenance. Of that there could be no doubt. And Relin had spent some time talking to the man about secondary power shunts and the applied mechanics in a tactical combat. Butthe young Cardassian was well... Cardassian and if it was one thing the Cardassian's were known for (apart from murder, rape, pillage, and duplicitous intent) it was talking. Which made life all the more difficult for the Romulan. Although the same rank as Yanek - T'Sar seemed superior somehow. Yanek had managed to run an underground smuggling ring at the Academy for a year by making friends and reading people. But for the past three days in the shuttle, he hadn't been able to work out if the Romulan was just arrogant, or really was superior in some way. In his attempt to work out it - Relin had resorted to telling jokes: "So the Romulan turns to the Ferengi and says - I'll eat the banana, but I'm not wearing the gorilla suit!" Yanek barked out into laughter as he completed his joke. "Come on, that was funny no?" T'sar had spent most of the shuttle ride in quiet contemplation, rather than trying to get to know his fellow occupants. He could feel Yanek's nervousness crop up from time to time, but mostly responded only when absolutely necessary. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the Lieutenant Commander -- T'sar had seen his fair share of alien races, but he wasn't quite sure where to place Zzt. The Federation was far-reaching, it was entirely possible that they contained races T'sar had never even heard of. T'sar rolled his eyes subtly. The Cardassian was telling jokes. ~Wonderful,~ he thought, ~There is nothing more obnoxious than a Cardassian's sense of humor.~ Despite Yanek's overwhelmingly annoying attempts to "break the ice," as Terran's put it, T'sar found he had a sense of respect growing for the other ensign. He was obviously intelligent, and as a Cardassian, he was already worthy of some base respect. Their empire had held much of the Alpha quadrant for a time, and had been formidable enemies. He found his face splitting into an amused (though still smug, as always) smile as the Cardassian finished his last joke. ~Perhaps there is more to him than his appearance would suggest,~ he thought absently as he joined in laughing with Yanek. Cardassian's were not known for their beauty, or eloquence--something this particular specimen seemed to possess. Zzt had been a bit nervous when he found out he'd be sharing the shuttle with not only a Romulan but a Cardassian too. He'd sat quietly in his corner on the floor and watched them for most of the flight, but spending several days cooped up in a shuttle at high warp conversation was bound to crop up eventually. It had been the Cardassian who had eventually broke the silence ask Zzt some engineering questions, and if there was one thing Zzt loved to talk about it was anything related to engineering, often to the point you could get him to shut up. When the Cardassian told a joke Zzt was starting the think maybe wasn't such a bad fellow after, even if he did have funny colored hair for a Cardassian. "Zzt like banana's," Zzt said, curling his lips back from his fangs in the approximation of a smile. "Zzt never have gorilla before. What it taste like?" Yanek laughed even harder at the commanders comment. "Now that's funny!" He managed between laughing and gasping for breath. Just then the proximity warning sounded on the console in front of him. Turning away from the two Yanek checked up on it. "Commander we're approaching the rendezvous point, and the USS Hades is hailing us." "Oh! Tell them Zzt say hello," Zzt said,"and ask them let us dock." Yanek nodded and sent the shuttles request to dock to the mighty ship. The Prometheus class always took his breath away. A pure weapon. She even looked like a dangerous ship. Permission was granted and the Cardassian piloted the tiny shuttle towards the primary hanger bay. After a moment, the familiar feel of the ships tractors reaching out to guide the shuttle vibrated the ship. "Safe and sound - landed and secure. Gentlemen, it was a pleasure - I hope we get to work together again soon." Yanek said as he finished the postflight checks. The shuttle was in tip top. The Flight deck chief, or whomever took care of the shuttles, would be happy. No repairs on this one yet. T'sar offered a crisp smile at the other ensign, "It was a pleasure to meet you, ensign Yanek." He offered his hand before retrieving his own bag from beside his seat. Yanek stepped off the shuttle, his dufflebag slung over one arm, and took a deep breath. He loved the different smells each ship had. Nothing major, just a slightly different aroma. This ship was his first home, and he was as excited as all hell. T'sar looked longingly around the shuttle craft before stepping out. This was the closest he'd be to having unlimited tinkering potential for a long time--he sucked in a breath. He hoped the others hadn't noticed how interested he had been in the computer readouts throughout the flight. He was simply so curious about Starfleet's technology! It was all so new. He stepped out of the shuttle, and his eyes almost widened as he took in the shuttlebay. Dozens of other shuttle craft were stationed there, but most impressive was the atmosphere of home. T'sar had never really fit into the Romulan military--that was why he'd been the first in line to request an exchange program. Starfleet, though, seemed like the best opportunity to be with the equipment he longed for. T'sar had never really craved the company of people, but machines, computers offered a quantifiable reassurance. He stepped further into the flight deck, and his eyes nearly sparkled with excitement through his mask of professionalism. Zzt grabbed his own massive bag and slug it over his shoulder and he rose to his paws and walked off the shuttle and onto the Hades once more. He looked around the shuttlebay as he licked his fangs. He turned and smiled looking down as a Lieutenant approached them. "Hi," Zzt said, wiggling his claws at the Lieutenant merrily. "Commander, Ensign's, I'm Lt. Peterson," He said, nodding at each of themi n greeting. "Each of you are to report in to Commander Straton in the FO's Office. With your permission, I'll have your belongings taken to your quarters while you report in." Lt. Peterson motioned toward an empty anti-grav sled sitting next to a pair of crewmen. Zzt nodded, un-slung his massive pack and plopped it down on the anti-grav sled before looking at the two Ensigns. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – Corridor outside Shuttle Bay - COPS Lt. Maraht – 0924) Maraht and Ensign Fredericks had been checking out the power conduits to the Antimatter Storage Pods and the EPS taps and conduits relating to them just outside the Shuttle Bay on Deck 14. Though Maraht was aware that a shuttle was docking, he was all business when it came to the Storage Pods. Now that the power feeds had been adjusted, he was curious as to who might be docking with them while they were all the way out here in this section of the quadrant. Shifting his rocky bulk into the corridor, he detected a small group moving toward them. Ensign Fredericks followed him, carrying the tool kits. He recognized the tall Gerratlian and detected two other humanoids, one a Cardassia and the other a Romulan. He noted their uniforms. Startled, Maraht wondered who the other two were and why someone had allowed them on board the ship. The last he had heard, the Academy was not allowing any students from any of the Romulan systems or from Cardassia to study to become officers in the Fleet. ~Why are they here? Is Zzt escorting and guarding them?~ Maraht and the blond-haired OPS Ensign moved toward them. “Commander Zzt, er….gentlemen, welcome to the Hades. I am the Chief of Operations, Lt. Maraht. With me is OPS Ensign Fredericks. And Commander Zzt, if you pick me up in any way, Great Lava help me, I will squirt my acid and dissolve your face so even your own mother won’t recognize you. You behave yourself,” warned Maraht sternly. He wanted no funny business out of the big fellow today after the ice cream party incident on the Boudicca. He had not forgotten how alarmed he had felt when Zzt had become overly excited and picked him up, swinging him around. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Cargo Bay 3- CSO, Lieutenant (jg) Jericho Haynes- 0925) Jack turned his head as the cargo bay doors opened once again and was mollified to see that the equipment he had ordered had arrived if several minutes late, so it was with a decidedly unhappy look on his face that he stood to his feet and turned to greet Ensign Culver who was directing an anti-grav sled toward him. "Two minutes and five are not the same Ensign, I would have thought you'd know the difference." Culver blanched but walked the device up to him, Jack could have an acid tongue at times but he made up for it the rest of the time by being fair and laid back. When he was intense though you didn't want to cross him... like now. "I understand sir but I had to calibrate the instrument." Jack grimaced and shook his head. "You thought I wouldn't do so here? Where is your head Ensign?" "With all due respect sir this is a contaminated environment, I thought it best to calibrate the instrument before bringing it down." Jack bit off what he was about to say, Culver was right of course and knew it ... he stood with his back ramrod straight and his eyes didn't flinch away as he held the grip on the sled. Jack took a deep breath as he paused then nodded his head. "You're right ensign, good job. Get that down on the floor so I can begin readings." Culver gave a quick nod but as he started a voice broke out behind Jack. It was Eoin. "Lieutenant," he was pointing to a small piece of debris near him, "I've found some markings over here. They are, as of yet, unidentified, but I'm willing to bet credits to cupcakes that they're T'chkairn in origin." Jack nodded, he couldn't see the markings from where he was standing but it was entirely possible. "Keep an eye on that shard Mr. MacLiam but stand back please or remove your tricorder from the area, this instrument is very sensitive." (Reply: Eoin) The unit was being powered up as he turned and crouched down before it, Culver stepped back as the CSO took over. The dial was touch controlled and he tuned it to 50% sensitivity at first as it began taking readings. The screen was showing Rhodium and Duranium as stated before but there was some destabilization at the molecular level, it wasn't all encompassing however but scattered. "Interesting." he mused as the others began moving in to look. "Adjusting sensitivity." At 75% other energy readings began to change to show molecular bonds and subatomic particles rather than heavy metals, there was also residue that appeared to be background wavelengths caused by energy weapons that he immediately began to trace on a sub screen. He had merely to touch the trace then a button on the panel singled it out for breakdown in a subroutine. At his command also the scan moved to slowly encompass the entirety of the pile which would take several minutes. That abnormal reading which was unstable was also very much more evident here and puzzling, it seemed to twine in and around the molecules of the debris in some strange fashion, after scanning the pile completely he was going to investigate that further. "It will take several minutes to get a full pass at this level then I'll move in for a full power scan." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Science lab One - SciO- Ens Harry doorman - 0926) Harry stepped into the science lab, carrying a PADD and little else. His attempt to locate other available scientists had been, much as he'd predicted, in vain. Everyone was already deeply engrossed in their work and Harry had learned a long time ago that interrupting a scientist while they were formulating or postulating was more dangerous that calling a Klingon a cry baby. He noted with detached interest that several of the monitors were displaying raw data taken from the Battlefield scans. He nodded to McKenzie as he entered the compartment. "Hello Sir," Harry said in greeting, "Sorry but it looks like I'm the only 'free' scientist on the ship at present, everyone else claims to be much to busy to attend our seminar." He explained. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Cargo Bay 3- aCEO, Lieutenant Darla Wright- 0929) Darla stood by watching as the Chief Science Officer chewed out his subordinate for his tardiness. He then turned around and apologized when he realized that he was in the wrong. That was something that Darla could admire. Mac Liam had discovered some symbols that he claimed to be a language and which Darla thought would be worthwhile to record. Apparently Haynes had a similar idea and voiced it before she could do so. ~just as well, ~ she thought~ not like it really matters.~ Haynes started up the scanner and while most of her engineering team crowded around the device hoping to gain a glimpse of what they were seeing, She simply tied her PADD into the relay and watched, although with a bit of a telemetry delay, the same material from her relatively safe position. The data was unlike anything she had ever seen before and well beyond her scope of experience. She didn't have the slightest clue what she was looking at. So she just nodded when Haynes muttered "Interesting" and then proceeded to increase the scanning intensity and gather even more data. "It will take several minutes to get a full pass at this level then I'll move in for a full power scan." he commented. "Okay" Was all she could say, since she still was clueless as to what it all meant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Shuttle Bay, Lt. Commander Zzt, 0930) Zzt looked over as he heard a familiar rumbling noise. He saw Maraht the Horta and a skinny blond human heading their way. Zzt smirked baring half his fangs. “Commander Zzt," Maraht said, "er….gentlemen, welcome to the Hades.I am the Chief of Operations, Lt. Maraht. With me is OPS Ensign Fredericks. And Commander Zzt, if you pick me up in any way, Great Lava help me, I will squirt my acid and dissolve your face so even your own mother won’t recognize you. You behave yourself." Zzt chuckled. "Still hold grudge do you?" Zzt said, as he leaned down and patted the Horta on the back before standing back to his full height. ~At least I think it's his back. Do Horta's even have backs?~ "Zzt tell My'Hat him sorry, but you no forgive Zzt. Zzt mean no harm. No time talk. Got report in First Officer. Captain be busy?" Zzt waved thetwo Ensigns to follow him as he started toward the corridor. "Maybe talklater. Maybe you learn forgive Zzt when Zzt say sorry." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Cargo Bay 3- CSO, Lt. (jg) Jericho Haynes- 0931) Jack took the tricorder he had ordered along with the nucleonic field detection unit and turned on the device, it was used to monitor the calibration and efficiency of the unit as it was being used which some considered overkill but when you were working with something this sensitive it always paid off to make sure it was operating at peak form. You could also use it to tweak the settings of the unit as he was doing now, masking any residual energy signatures left from the transport of the material earlier. The acting Chief engineer had been relatively silent during the scans which allowed him to work with complete focus which he appreciated, after he was satisfied the unit was working normally he switched his focus back to the screen. "This is extraordinary Chief," He motioned to Darla. "There is some kind of distortion occurring at the molecular level of the material but it's localized, entwining among the subatomic structures." A blinking tell noted the scan of the debris was completed and he tapped the touch-sensitive digital keys to increase the power of the scans and narrow the field while another tell began blinking, noting that the energy signature trace possibly caused by energy weapons had been completed. He ignored that one for now as he completed the command sequence and engaged it. (Reply: Darla, Eoin, any) The data delay Darla had mentioned earlier appeared to grab the equipment as the full power sequence kicked in which caused him to almost growl in consternation, rather than sit back and take it though he tapped in a quick command to change the bit sequence and frequency in an effort to bypass the cause, it actually worked after a couple of tries. ~Way to go Jack but don't get big-headed here, there's a lot left.~ "Holy Mother of Pearl!" Jack was astonished as the initial readings appeared on the screen. The quantum level scans couldn't be right, could they? "What we're seeing here is neutrino decay of the material at the quantum level, the neutrinos being stripped from the material though aren't powerful enough to cause any physical effects much less the electromagnetic field distortions that are affecting our equipment. Hold on a moment." The next layer of readings were coming in. He shook his head as he watched the graphed energy traces then whistled. "What have we here?" The quantum distortions their equipment had been reading earlier was quite clear at this sensitivity. "This energy signature here, see how stable it is? Almost like an element in its stability but is energy and not matter, it's causing the decay of the surrounding material due to a localized sub-space field distortion." (Reply: Darla, Eoin, any) "The sub-space field distortion is not only confined to the debris however, it extends 8.2 meters from the source." Jacks eyes opened a bit wide at that, could this be the remains of a weapon as well, or the weapon itself? "It's intertwined with most of the material in structures like strings.." He looked up and glanced at the pile. "... That could be made into an effective weapon don't you think?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Biophysics Lab - SciO- Ens Harry Doorman - 0932) "It's OK. Ensign. I understand that people are busy, but I just wanted to see if I could organize the Science departments so that we all know what we are doing so we don't have people standing around or trying to do the same job. I like to be efficient, you understand?" McKenzie stated, although Harry could almost feel his displeasure at the announcement. "Of course, sir I completely understand" Harry replied with a nod. ~I hope he doesn't think that I've just been standing around.~ he thought to himself. He really didn't know Kenneth well enough to determine if the man was making a subtle point or if he was referring to someone or something else. For the moment, Harry just filed it away. If it came up again, he'd ask for further clarification then. "Anyway; This is Crewperson Ali and Crewperson Hind-sorry, Kase." he said remembering that Bajorans put their last name first. Both of them nodded at Harry. "They are also free to help us. I'm not sure if you three have met so introduce yourself if you want." "Nice to meet you both," Harry replied. He'd not spoken to either of them prior, but he had seen them around the labs. If Harry wasn't mistaken they were Science Techs; the sort that performed simple tests that were requested by the more senior science staff. "I don't think we will get more people, but lets wait a few minutes just to be sure, then we'll get to work." Kenneth added. "Okay." Harry replied, " Just out of curiosity, sir. What exactly are we working on?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Cargo Bay 3 - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0933) Lo'ren watched the scientists and engineers as they hovered around the debris. She'd noted the distance they were keeping and kept herself to a similar perimeter. Tricorder out she scanned as best she could, though there was a distinct want to get closer. ~This stuff is strange, either it's giving off something that's playing with my 'corder or this stuff is phasing out in minute strings...~ Jack had declined to acknowledge her presence much, but she kept an ear out to what he might have to say. ~Most likely he's too involved with the readings to notice ANYTHING else.~ she huffed inwardly, but kept herself outwardly composed. "It's intertwined with most of the material in structures like strings.." Jack looked up and glanced at the pile. "... That could be made into an effective weapon don't you think?" Her attention was piqued so she floated over towards the budding conversation between the CSO and the aCEO, the latter looking rather confused until something dawned on her and she called the bridge for an EC-3 field. ~****, just what we need, some sort of trouble.~ The aCEO was going through the options of Jack's suggestion, "I think the real question that we need to pose is this: Is it a threat to the ship?" ~That's what I'd like to know,~ Lo'ren listened in, feeling that she should know about any potential threat, ~And what do we do to eliminate it?~ Lo'ren listened to the Darla, Eoin and Jack as they discussed the various engineering and science perspectives of the space junk. She didn't understand most of it so she stayed out of the actually conversation. Finally Jack mentioned Klingon Disruptor fire. "Lt. Haynes, do you mean to tell me we've got Klingons out here? How? WHY? Or are you implying that one of our species is technologically on par with the Klingons? And of what era may I ask?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Shuttle Bay, Ensign (jg) T'sar, 0934) “Commander Zzt," Maraht said, "er….gentlemen, welcome to the Hades. I am the Chief of Operations, Lt. Maraht. With me is OPS Ensign Fredericks. And Commander Zzt, if you pick me up in any way, Great Lava help me, I will squirt my acid and dissolve your face so even your own mother won’t recognize you. You behave yourself." Zzt chuckled. "Still hold grudge do you?" Zzt said, as he leaned down and patted the Horta on the back before standing back to his full height. "Zzt tell My'Hat him sorry, but you no forgive Zzt. Zzt mean no harm. No time talk. Got report in First Officer. Captain be busy?" Zzt waved the two Ensigns to follow him as he started toward the corridor. "Maybe talk later. Maybe you learn forgive Zzt when Zzt say sorry." T'sar bit back a small chuckle at the interaction between the two, finding it ironic that even the lest humanoid species had just as much to disagree about. Still, it felt more comfortable than would be expected--felt almost like family, rather than rivalry. T'sar's musings would have to wait til later, though, as he stepped into the corridor behind Zzt, nodding politely to what he assumed was the front end of the Horta. "Sir, one question," he asked Zzt, "What is the ratio on the Hades of humanoids to non-humanoids?" He was honestly curious, if not just for the sake of raw data, then to discover if such a ship ran as smoothly as ships with fully-humanoid crews. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Corridor outside Cargo Bay 3 - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 0935) Lo'ren had almost reached Cargo Bay 3 when she was beset by a... well, there was no other word for it... parade carrying freshly picked fruits. They were children for the most part, cheerfully yanking on the antigravs that floated a little too high for them and some on the sides guarding the precariously perched baskets from toppling to the deck plating. Lo'ren smiled, it did her heart good to see the playfulness with which they romped along. She watched as one young boy struggled with a basket near the end of the antigrav. "Let me help you a little." Lo'ren gently reached over and helped the boy balance the bushel of apples, rearranging the load a little to give more room. For her efforts she got a broad smile and a shy "Thanks, Ensign." Lo'ren continued on and ran into the end of the procession, upon which came the Pied Pipers of this group, Shurleshlee and Lt. Shayhiloosh. "Soft breezes, Lieutenant, Shureshlee. I see you have treasures for the Quartermaster." She kept her voice soft and let her amusement show through her voice. (reply Shayhiloosh, Shureshlee) "I'd love to enjoy an apple right now, but I'm headed for the Cargo Bay to see something we've just brought aboard. Perhaps you could save me one for after my shift?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Corridor outside Cargo Bay 3 – ACSO Lt. Shayhiloosh – 0936) "Soft breezes, Lieutenant, Shureshlee. I see you have treasures for the Quartermaster." Ensign Lo’ren T’Vof addressed them, sounding amused. Bobbing an eyestalk in her direction, Shureshlee spoke solemnly. “It was harvest time for the fruit trees, Sir. My classmates helped us to pick the fruit.” “Would you like a piece of fruit to take with you, Ensign?” asked Shayhiloosh. “An apple or pear perhaps?” "I'd love to enjoy an apple right now, but I'm headed for the Cargo Bay to see something we've just brought aboard. Perhaps you could save me one for after my shift?" “You can order it through Ten Forward or directly from the Quartermaster,” replied Shayhiloosh. “They are for all of the crew to enjoy.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Biophysics Lab, Science Lab One, Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie 09:37) Kenny saw Harry Doorman enter the door. he was happy that someone other than a Crewperson was free. He could always really on the expertise of an Ensign, mostly one he had met and worked alongside before. "Just out of curiosity, Sir. What exactly are we working on?" asked Doorman. "Well; I'm going to organise teams to understand and analyse the data we brought onboard. I understand that Jericho and others are working on the debris, but I want to coordinate with Medical to analyse the shells. Do you know about the shells?" (Reply Ensign Harry Doorman) "Also; I want to make a team to locate the actual site of the battle. It's very likely that the debris here has been floating around space for several hundred years, and so travelled for some time." (Reply Ensign Harry Doorman) After he was finished outlining the plan, he turned to everyone. "Do you have any comment or suggestions to this plan, Ensign, Crewpersons?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Cargo Bay 3- aCEO, Lt. Darla Wright- 0938) Darla was feeling a little bit uncomfortable, mostly because she was under the impression that she was way out of her league. She had absolutely no idea what the readings that she was looking at meant. She'd never even heard of this sort of thing before. it was a sobering abut exciting find. Even if she had no idea what the hell it all meant, the very thought of discovering something new was having a very distinct physiological affect on her. She took in a lungful of air and let it out slowly in an attempt to bring her mind back to focus. "This is extraordinary Chief," He motioned to Darla. ~I'd say...~ she thought, while trying to remember the last time that she had ever been this excited over any sort of discovery. "There is some kind of distortion occurring at the molecular level of the material but it's localized, entwining among the subatomic structures." (reply Eoin) She nodded, then paused for a moment before replying, "What exactly does that mean Mister Haynes?" "What we're seeing here is neutrino decay of the material at the quantum level, the neutrinos being stripped from the material though aren't powerful enough to cause any physical effects much less the electromagnetic field distortions that are affecting our equipment. Hold on a moment." he replied. Well, neutrino decay she understood. It inherently caused the material decaying to lose atomic density, which resulted in weaker bonds and eventual complete structural decay or collapse. "What have we here?" Haynes asked rhetorically. "This energy signature here, see how stable it is? Almost like an element in its stability but is energy and not matter, it's causing the decay of the surrounding material due to a localized sub-space field distortion." "Similar to a biogenic field?" Darla asked, knowing that biogenic fields were self reinforcing and basically broke down the atomic structures of organic matter in a similar manner. "Although obviously not completely the same," she added for clarification. "Self-reinforcing so very stable and degenerative in that it causes subspace distortion that results in neutrino decay." She repeated aloud as she worked to understand exactly what it was that Haynes was driving at. (reply Eion) "The sub-space field distortion is not only confined to the debris however, it extends 8.2 meters from the source. It's intertwined with most of the material in structures like strings.." He looked up and glanced at the pile. "... That could be made into an effective weapon don't you think?" "So it's an embedded self-reinforcing field in a quantum string configuration that creates a subspace distortion which causes neutrino decay in solid elemental material such as duranium..." she summarized. Then a thought suddenly made itself very apparent in the depths of her brain. the material they were scanning was Duranium and Rhodium, so was the Hades. She tapped her commbadge. "Wright to the bridge." (reply bridge) "I need a deck level containment field with a EC-3 containment rating activated in Cargo bay 3 immediately." (reply bridge) "The material that we brought aboard could be causing limited neutrino decay in the cargo bay deck plating. I'd like to make certain that doesn't happen." (reply Bridge) There was a hum of power as the containment field materialized at the deck level and shifted the material and all the personnel up off the deck. The EC-3 field was harmless and it wouldn't cause any discomfort or issues for the engineering teams. It would effectively block the subspace distortion from passing into the floor decking of the bay. She turned her attention back to Haynes and Eion. "So it's more likely to be a weapon or the results of a weapon?" She asked, then shrugged. "I'd think that all things considered it's a pretty poor weapon, since there was no guarantee that someone would have picked it up. Maybe it could have been part of a weapon housing or something like that, but the material is most definitely not a weapon in and of itself." She replied. "I think the real question that we need to pose is this: Is it a threat to the ship?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - COPS Lt. Maraht - 0939) =/\=Wright to the Bridge.=/\= “Maraht here.” =/\=I need a deck level containment field with an EC-3 containment rating activated in Cargo Bay 3 immediately.=/\= “Right away Chief,” answered Maraht. “Setting it up now. Is there a problem?” Maraht’s console bleeped and chirped in response to setting up the field and diverting power. =/\=The material that we brought aboard could be causing limited neutrino decay in the cargo bay deck plating. I'd like to make certain that doesn't happen.=/\= “Aye Sir,” replied Maraht. His console chirped as the field read activated on his board. “Captain, I’d like to asses the neutrino decay more closely, if I could Sir,” requested Maraht. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
