We receive confirmation via a message, at first anonymous, from if I’m right Patricia O’Leary, that the Collins family is there. That is my part… has for the mission, it was a rescue mission, a group affair. At first, we had the element of surprise, acted accordingly and rescue the family. What do you think of this Lieutenant?” "I believe it to be a logical alternative, i have no further objections captain. However may i enquire further regarding the event the Federation is going through, i was not aware of any major incidents occurring presently that would create such a concern?" “I have a few questions but what we have so far doesn’t look good. How the Collins family have been kidnap and why didn’t we hear about this? Tahl and me we will ask a few questions to them to see what they know but I would bet that they knew who took them away. I hope she has names, I will make small inquiries. The Nimitz’s mission, communication blackout… they must be in something big. The next few weeks will be important. Also, we have an unseen ally, Drake’s contact which mean we have also to protect them, this station would be a great asset. All of this speaks volumes and I prefer to be cautious.” "Based upon that information it would appear logical to retain the station in a manner where it can be of potential benefit to us, it does occupy a strategic position and possess significant resources. However it is unlikely that Mr Blacks organisation, Starfleet or indeed any others observing activities within this region, will simply allow the station to be commandeered by Mr Drake. The logical solution would be to create the illusion that there is nothing to commandeer, I believe the Scorpion possess the appropriate holographic projection technology, which combined with the cloaking device you discovered and several ideas of my own, would allow the station simply to disappear." “That is what I was thinking. Are there no other possible solutions?" “There could be… Hall could do it and I could erase what he knows after. The most important information about this event I will keep, all reports from the officers will have to be modified, the fast way will be that all department chief will debrief there people this to make the proper report for Starfleet.” "What about Drake," Tahlmari said. "How are we going to justify his presence in our logs?" Fugan listened intently for his captains answer, he was considering the same matter himself. “I know, I am coming to that. Comdr Tahlmari- 0900) Tahl had been dreading this meeting. He never thought that he would use that term in seeing Jlia Martinez, but dread was the only word that came to mind. The woman had been his love once. Actually, she had been his first love. And until he had connected with Alex, he believed it had been true love. But soon after starting his relationship with the doctor things started to go wrong. Or more that fate had stepped in and taken the control of that relationship away. If there was one thing Tahl hated to admit, it was thathe was becoming a believer in fate. Another new thing for him. Part of him still cared for Julia, part of him still loved her. His feelings for Alex had not taken over his emotions for Julia, simply over shadowed them. He deserved any anger that Julia had for him, but he had hoped that they could have remained friends. Now it appears that that was not a possibility. Julia's actions during the mission not only compromised the mission and his part in that mission, but also her own life. He was very concerned that her own safety was less important than her desire to exact revenge upon him. And so it had come down to this meeting. He had given her a whole day to recover from her ordeal at the hands or Wells and Black. When he entered sickbay Julia was sitting back in her office. Her eyes were closed and Tahl thought she was sleeping. He almost turned and left when he saw her move. She had looked up and their eyes locked. There was a moment of joy in her eyes, which quickly disappeared to the scowl he had seen the last few meetings. With a heavy sigh he walked to her office. "May I come in?" Tahl asked. "You're already here, so there's not much I can do about it," came Julia's response. Tahl tried not to wince at the tone. Then he steeled his nerves and pressed on. He entered the office and sat down in a chair across from the doctor. "We need to have a little talk," Tahl said sternly. "I thought I already made myself clear that I have nothing to say to you," Julia shot at him. "Yes you did," Tahl replied. "And that was as friends, I am here to talk to you as professionals. As your commanding officer." Julia was taken back a bit, but she did not loose any of her resolve. "Such as that position might be." Each word made this easier for Tahl. All that Julia was doing was forging her own future. "That attitude is what I'm here to talk about. I was hoping that we would be able to work through our difficulties. As I told you before, I still care about you, and I hoped that things could settle down between us, but I can see now that i was only fooling myself. You are working as hard as you can to be as mad at me as possible. You obviously have no desire to work things out." Julia tried to cut Tahl off but he held her with his gaze and a hand. "You've had your say, now I will have mine. I wonder about your feelings about me. If you are completely incapable of seeing that I am happy then perhaps you never cared about me at all. All I was to you, was a diversion, and all you are mad about is that someone else was able to find room in my heart besides you. That seems awfully selfish to me." "To make matters worse, you jeoprodized yourself, me, and the whole mission by attempting to stage an unauthorized venture. You attempted to entice other officers into your little "diversion." This is behavior that I just can't let go. No matter what the reason." Julia's eyes blazed. He could see the fire behind them getting bigger. He wasn't sure how much time he could hold her attention before she lost her composure. So he had to get to the point fast. "So I am here," he continued, "to try and save what little is left of our friendship, and create a new professional raport." Julia let go of her anger. "You dare speak to me of professionalism, when you..., when you find the best way to get to the top is by sleeping with the boss. It's almost 20th century. How dare you accuse me, and cast doubt on the incerity of my feelings. I did ot drive into the arms of another, you went there all by yourself." Tahl interrupted her, "I agree andI take full responsibility in our relationship. But I am not talking about that now. What I am talking about is what has happened as collegues and of our future in that arena." "The only arena I want to see you in is an Orion fighting pit," Julia shot, without giving any thought. "That is as I feared," Tahl said sadly, "so now I am asking to to resign your position as CMO of the Cochrane and request a transfer, perhaps to Starfleet Medical. I will, of course, give you the recomendation you deserve. However, considering our current state, it would not be wise for the both of us to remain on board the same ship." Julia was beside herself, "What!? You want me to do what? Who the hell do you think you are?" Tahl lost his patnece and allowed his own anger to show through. "I think...," he said a little louder than he had planned, and then continued more calmly. "I think I am the First Officer of this ship. My decisions will not, I repeat, will not be undermined or questioned by anyone for any reason. Now this an be easy or this can be hard. The choice is totally yours. If you choose to ask for a transfer, I will grant that with no complications. However, if you continue on your current course I will bring charges against you of duplicity and conduct unbecoming an officer and have you drummed out of Starfleet faster than you may think is possible. And just so you know, I do have the evidence." Tahl sat back in his chair and regrouped his thoughts. He had not intended for this to get so ugly, but she had forcedd this situation. Now it was his job tomake sure that he put an end to it. He finally looked at Julia's face to see the tears streaming down them. He already felt bad about this situation, and this was not helping. He said gently, "Julia, please, I do not want theis to be the way it is. I truely wish thingshad been different, but they aren't. I am with Alex now, and I don't believe you will ever forget or forgive. Please, think about what you really want. I need your decision within the hour." Julia remained silent as Tahl stod up. He went to her office door and it opened. He turned back to see her staring at her desk. "I'm sorry Julia, really I am. For everything." Then he turned and left sickbay. Julia finally turned her head to look after the man she had really given her heart to. She new that she had created this situaton, but she just couldn't stand the thought of the two of them together. Now it appeared she had another fight on her hands. She was so tired of fighting. She really had no option. "Computer start recording. I Dr. Julia Martinez hereby request a transfer from the USS Cochrane to a position at Starfleet medical. End recording." the computer beeped. "Send this message to Lt. Commander Tahlmari immediately." The tears continued to flow from her eyes. Perhaps Starfleet medical was the best place for her right now. She was going to miss the Cochrane. It had become her home. Believe it or not, she was going to miss Tahl. She had wanted to tell him that she might need a good friend right now. Someone that she could depend on and be strong for her. The drug that Black had given her had left its mark. It had contained a virus that was killing her every minute. She was sure tha Black had the antidote, but as yet she had been unable to discover it herself. In short, she was dying, but she could not let Tahl know that. (reply none) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.03.18 Mission : Needle in the Hay, day 4 Stardate : 2406.03.18 (Scorpian, Bridge, CO, Capt. Francis Drake, 0900) Drake had kept to himself after Tanya had taken her own life. Some how he felt like it was his fault, he should have seen it coming. He should hve been more aware of her feeling after what they had together but he had been caught up in his own little world. The relationship he and Jerad had also seemed strained at the moment as Jerad had not said but a few words to him since the incident. Drake knew that Jerad blamed him for what happened and he could not disagree. Drake also knew to let things go for a bit and Jerad would come to him then they would have a rational talk. Drake had also avoided contacting the Cochrane for anything other than inquiring as to the condition of the Collins Family. They had informed him the family needed some time with the counselor to ensure they were mentally in stable condition. He had been relieved when they finally were beamed aboard but he still had to wait for Rose's ok for them to leave. When the Cochrane mentioned the Counselor's Name, He longed to go to her cause he could feel that the concern and confusion she had. He had heald off because he had to think of what their future could be. "Captain, a message from the Cochrane. It says that their Captain wants to meet you in holodeck 6 as soon as you can." His ops person informed him. "Send a message back informing them that I will be there shortly." Drake responded knowing full well what she wanted to talke to him about. "I will be in my quarters for a few before I go over, Jerad you have the chair" Drake said as he got up and did not look back as she slowly went to his room. (Scorpian, Quarters, CO, Capt. Francis Drake, 0945) Drake was sitting on the couch thinking about what he would say to Alex when he met her this morning when he got the feeling that someone was heading in to see him. Then he realized that Rose had come aboard and was heading straight to his quarters so he stood up to wait for her to walk in. This was not a moment he was looking forward to, he wanted her to go with him to take care of the Collins family and to be with him but he was not sure if she should. As he thought about that, he got a feeling that he had made this type of decision once before and the one he had made was the wrong one. ~would the one I make this time be the right one?~ He thought to himself not knowing the answer to that one. "Good morning Rose" Drake said as she was almost through the door. Rose had push away her schedule meetings to talk to Drake, that was the only logical thing to do in this case. She also took the decision to go to him, knowing full well that something was bathering him, she had that confirm when she heard his voice. "Good morning to you too! I know that you will be leaving soon and I found myself swimming in a mystery, a crossroads somehow." "I know and I am at the same ... crossroads... yet once again." Drake replied a bit troubled and motioning for her to take a sit with him. "you know that I made this type of decision once before and then spent a few years of my life regretting it. I also spent that time looking to set it right now I .... err we need to make the right one now." Drake paused to think on what to say next but his feelings for her and the situations that has just finished was playing on his mind. "So that is what I have been feeling this pass few days." She sat beside him and she could feel the vibration between them was just has funny has ever. "Your right... we need to make the right decision, it can change so many things." She sat in way to see him, yet she was very comfortable. Drake feeling nervous got up to walk over to one of the paintings on the wall, one of a spot on an island on Risa. "You know this painting has been on this wall for a very long time and was one of the last places that Alex and I spent time together." Drake paused to catch his breath before continuing, "I have it here to remember ..... what would I put on this wall if we make the wrong decision?" Drake asked almost in a whisper. Rose remain silent has she got up and walk up to the painting. Drake pass the last few years searching high and low for Alexandra who now was making a life of her own. "I know that you feel some kind of a loss... when it's not the case. I think that this situation either of us can't make the wrong or right decision. We could analyse this situation coldly with are head... or take it with are heart and go with it's decision." She whispered back. Rose was just too close, it made him want to take her into his arms and give her the loving that she deserved .... craved. Yet, he did not want that to cloud his mind so he walked to a few other pictures. Some he knew she would not even imagine where they could be or could she. "These are some of the places that I had traveled to in my search to right a wrong, places the federation have not even visited yet." He said absently while thinking of other times, "I am happy and satisfied that Alex has found a life that will make her happy now and yes I do feel a somewhat loss but it could also be that what I have done over the years has come to an end." He thought of the many things that he and his crew has done over the years, coming together, finding a fantastic ship, searching new places, people and all in the name of the hunt for Alex. What will they do now? He has made so many enemies even after he left Alex, what is he to do, what is the ship to do, how could he honestly ask Rose to join him in this? "I trust Alex with your safety, you should stay with her." he said finally coming to an answer. "Alex has requested my presence now." Drake told her wanting to let the conversation end and he could go end another conversation for good this time. "Drake... you are doing IT again, what you didn't want to do." He stopped and turned to Rose, "I am doing what is necessary and you know it" he replied "This time it is more safer than it had been last time, You are with some people that can keep you safe. What kinda of life would we have together with so many people wanting me dead? You saw or heard what happened on the station, my being there almost caused the mission to fail. I love you so much but be logical that love could get you killed as It almost did to Alex years ago and did .... to our son." He turned around at the mention of what his decision cost him and Alex. "I know that!" She walk up to him, turn to face and grab his hands they were a bit cold. "Can you see what you have gain?" her hand reach out to his face to make him look at her. She wanted to hold him and not let go, but she kept herself in control. Drake looked into Rose's eyes and saw the love there which made him hurt that much more. He reached up to take her hand and held it up to his face and closed his eyes to see what could have been but he was a risk to her and he knew it. He then opened his eyes and put her hand down from his face and with a loving look he answered her, "There hence lies my delima, I do see it and can not dare accept it or possibly cause your death which I could not live with. Forget me Rose, forget a dead man.." Drake whispered to her then walked past her and into the coorridor. "You are not leaving this easily... taking my decision away from me Francis Drake." She knew that he heard that because he stop and she was on his tail also, more or less angry at him. "You are right, I should stay on board the Cochrane, has to forget you... I just can't do even if my life depended on it. Also, you are making a mistake, you should accept it despite the danger." Drake turned toward Rose to look at her in the eyes, "You think this is easy? both decisions for me have been hard." Drake took a deep breath, "I made a decision to leave one love behind when I did not know for sure she would be safe and it turned out that she wasnt. I am making the decision for you, you are in a safe place with people that care for you and can take care of you, leave it that way Rose. My life is not an easy one no matter what I say or do or portray. I dont want it to be my next mistake and lose you." "I might add... you are not going to win this battle Francis Drake." Drake had to admire her determination even if it was misplaced to his opinion. He guessed that was also why he loved her so but could he really take the risk he asked himself. "I love you Rose ..... " Drake started then changed his mind, "... I have to talk to Alex and I want you to certify the family fit to leave pls." He then turned to leave, again. "Okay, but don't leave without telling me." Rose observed him leave and after half a minute went to see the Collins family. Drake wished that he could promise her that he would not leave without saying good bye to her but the truth of the matter was he did not know if he could say good bye. He still wished there was more that he could have done, but he knew that there wasn't. he had been more than accomodating. By the time he had arrived on the bridge he already had the doctors resignation. He looked at it for a moment and then forwarded it to Alex, with a note attached stating not to question her on the matter. Just accept it and move on. Hopefully she would take his advice. But now he had a knott in his stomach and a bad feeling in his heart. Every report he looked at was Julia's resignation. After a while he just picked up and put down the same sequence of padds. Then a warm feeling came from inside. He turned to see Alex step onto the bridge. There had been a lot of work to do over the past 2 days, and Alex managed to hold up pretty well. She constantly amazed him. "Good morning everyone," she was quite cheerful. Tahl wanted to hug her right there, but managed to maintain his composure. "Well, good morning yourself, Captain Cheerful," Tahl got out of his chair and moved to her, leaving the pile of unread reports on his seat. "You seem particularly pleased today." Alex smiled at him but did not respond. She looked around the bridge and said, "Anything new to report?" The nurse, T'Simmi stepped forward with a padd. "I have this from Dr. Weasly." Tahl looked over Alex's shoulder to see the simple phrase "24 hours rest" written on it. Tahl laughed. The head nurse was holding the captain to her promise from two days earlier. This should be interesting. "I promised and true that the crisis is over. I will hear the reports and comply. Anyway, it will be good to have a day to pamper myself. Come on people, Report!" Griegor gave his report on the security section. Tahl hated giving reports so he stood back and enjoyed watching others give theirs. Fugan gave his report. At the end he invited himself and Alex to a demonstration of some new things he had developed. "Oh goody," Tahl said, "more new toys. I feel just like John Bond." (reply anyone who wants to correct the FO) Alex gave her directions to the helm officer who laid in the corrdinates. "Engage Ensign," she ordered. The ship lurched just slightly as it went into warp space. Then Alex turned to Ensign Snider. "Ensign Snider, send a message to Captain DrakeâEUR| I would like to see him in holodeck 6." "For what reason should I give?" Snider asked. "He knows I would believe. Make it so!"Snider nodded and sent the message. "I will be there, I hope to have liquidate all more or less related to work and have the afternoon and... night off." Tahl saw the twinkle in her eye as she got up. She was up to something, but he just didn't know what. "Now, Tahl... you have the bridge." Thal shook his head and went back to his seat with a smile on his face. He looked at the pile of padds there and sighed. At least now he was in more of a mood to go through the reports. He sat in the captains chair and picked up the first one and began to read. Francis Drake, 1030) Drake had finished with his conversation with Rose and left her to see how the Collins family was doing and headed to Holodeck 6 on the Cochrane. When he entered he saw the island on Risa that he and Alex knew so well. When he spotted her he just stood there watching her for a moment, she seemed to be admiring her recreation of the island from memory. "Yes, You have done a wonderful job recreating what it looked like when we were there." He suddenly felt the need to get this over with. All this many years were about to be wrapped up in a few mere minutes n the shadow of the one place that had also made them happy. Alexandra turn around and saw that Drake wasn't feeling like is usual self. "Why do I have the feeling of Deja vu? probably because you are feeling it too. I needed to talk to you, let's go to the veranda." She smiled and held out her right hand toward him. "Computer, a bottle of Don Perigon champagne and 2 glasses on the table at the veranda." Drake took her hand knowing that it was one of the last times that he would have the chance and walked with her to the veranda with her. He pulled out her chair to let her sit and helped her up to the table then he sat down across from her. He had been silent for the entire time wrestling with his emotions about her, about Rose, and about leaving. "Yes, again you have hit it on the head Alex." He replied finally but added, "I just go through talking to Rose." "I guessed this much, Snider told me so. Let me guess you took the decision to leave, cut off your heart in the process for not causing her pain and too keep her safe. I always resented this decision from you... even the word resented isn't the right one... not strong enough." Drake looked up a bit surprised that she seemed to be taking Rose's side of the argument. "Do you not think that I made the right decision? Don't you think my life style is not for her and could get her killed? " Drake asked one that had been on the receiving side once before and his decision had failed so he decided that she had the right. "You have chance Drake, the first week I said to myself that something happen to you, but then I turn to anger... I thought that you changed your mind. At last, I thought that maybe someone killed you but I didn't think twice that they could go after me. When that happen, and I lost... Michael, are son... I was furious. I would have wish that you have given me a choice, that we would have talk. With the years and experience, I would have staid behind but aware and probably by now you would have meet a son, that I imagined would have your eyes and your smile. Don't do this to Rose, yes you must take some distance, at least for sometimes... at least the time it will take you to deliver the Collins family, making sure that they will be safe. Yes, Rose must stay on board the Cochrane, if she would have ask my permission to leave to go with you, I would have serious fear about both of your safety." Alexandra got up and slide her chair close to him to take his hands. "Just don't stay silent to long, don't cut her off... I saw that glint in her eyes, you saw that in me too... She loves you!" Drake looked at her and knew that she spoke only the true that he had been telling himself for so many years. He loved her enough to let her go to Tahl and he had not thought it possible but he loved Rose. He had thought that he and Alex was meant to be together but after meeting Rose he knew he had been wrong and that this meeting was meant to be. Rose was his soul mate more so than Alex could ever be and he knew Alex was at ease with it. He also knew that she and he had made the peace that they both needed to be able to move on in their lives, to put all to rest includeing their son, Michael. Alex was correct he had not given her the choice and it had ended wrongly now he was about to do it again. She was right, he needed to let Rose and Alex decide what she could and wanted to do, but, whatever they decide he would be back to be with Rose if she did not come with him. "Yes, I know she does Alex." Drake returned to her and to hear her say that seemed to let something go in him, "I need her to go with me to deliver the family as I think they are for further need of her abilities. I request your assistance in that and I will return her forthwith after it is completed." He was shocked he actually said that. "You need her more then you think Drake. A few days ago, we spent a last night together sleeping in each others arms. I know you didn't took well that I left to go after Tahl, that night... at least for me, I close a door, but I also hope that I have gain a good and close friend. Tahl knows that a part of me will always love you. I will talk to Rose and you will have an answer today, I have time... I have an entire day off duty. You know I'm saying this because I care about you?" She could feel her eyes burning, she wanted to cry but just couldn't at this point. "Alex you will always be just more than a friend to me. You also know that anytime you need my help, you need only to ask and I will be here." Drake replied then knew he needed to add some more to what she had said as she was looking for it, "Yes, at first I did not like it that you left me for Tahl, but, it seems he is a really nice guy and seems to really be concerned with your happiness as I am. I came to handle him being with you but I also warned him that he ever harms you that He will have to answer to me." He smiled at Alex after that and brought his hand up to cup her face to remember her more. "Okay, so I think now we can open this ice chilled champagne bottle and celebrate properly... are new friendship." She got up, kissed his cheek and smiled has she sat again on her chair. "To our new and everlasting Friendship" Drake said after he opened and poured the Champagne then picking up the glass to offer it to her as a toast. "Everlasting!" She picked it up and took a sip and suddenly had an idea. "I should never drink champagne... gives me ideas. I think I will offer the crew an improvised beach party... I think they deserves it after all the work they are doing." She took another sip of champagne. "Good Idea! but I need to go to talk to someone again." Drake said with a little step in his voice that has not been there for a while. "I will be at the party, at least for a bit before I err hopefully we leave." "Now, that is the old Drake that we all love... I was wondering where he was for a moment." She said with a mischievous smile. "Drake never leaves he just fades for a while then is back again when you least expect him." Drake laughed and got up then kissed Alex on the cheek, "I need to tell her of another decision she has no say in, hehe" "I think... knowing Rose... that she can put a few words there. Once you talk to Rose, send her to me... we will talk and I will give you my decision. Forgot, need to talk to Tahl about that. Anyway, you will have an answer." "Thanks Alex need to do this now as I cant stay too much longer. Oh when would the party be?" Drake stopped to ask as he was trying to run out to see Rose again. "Well, I will invite everyone after the little display of Lt. B'Lanor about the invention of his teams... which will be after 1400, make it about 1500." Drake felt like a school boy again going to see his best girl as he kissed Alex on the cheek once again. "You are the best love, gotta run" he said as he was running out of the holodeck. "See you later!" She screamed but the holodeck's door already closed behind Drake. Stardate: 2406.03.18 (USS Cochrane, Counselor Office, Capt. Francis Drake, 1045) "Computer location of Counselor Cantarzini?" Drake asked the Cochrane computer system. He had just left Alex and was happy that he could possibly take Rose with him but he had to walk this one a bit more careful. He did not give her the choice of not coming so he was going to let her have a choice, albeit somewhat, here. <> The computer announced. So with the information off he was. Just before he got to her office he stopped off at a replicator and replicated a dozen Red Roses for her. Then when the door opened he picked around the door to see her behind her desk. "Can I enter?" he said playfully. Rose was a bit surprise, but then she saw that he was different. It made her curious. "Yes of course you can!" She smiled. "Just filling up a report about the Collins family status, they are not bad but not really good either. Has for the boy, he is a bit close and even more so angry. Difficult to get through to him." Drake walked in and handed the roses to her to see the smile on her face made everything worth it. He then sat down across from her and pretended to think a bit. "Hmm, that means one of two things then as I see it." he started, " one that the Scorpian and the family has to stay here so you can take care of them till they are ready to leave without you or you could just come with me to take care of them on the way. I think being back with the father would do wonders for him to heal faster. What do you think" He still did not tell her that he had already asked for her to come along but for a more personal nature. Rose observed him, she could feel something more but he was delibaratly hiding from her, actually playing. "True that faster they are reunited with the father, the boy would heal faster." Rose got up and put the flower in a vase with some water in. "Good" Drake replied as he was suppose to reply, then smiling he continued, "Then I suggest counselor that you confirm with the Captian that you agree with my request." Drake stopped at that to see what her reaction would be. "So that is the other shoe dropping. What happen with Alexandra? I suggested her to tell you everything... Did she?" Rose look a bit surprise but kept on her smile. Drake's smile disappeared as he now knew that it was not his surprise to Rose but hers to him. He finally figured out that she had this all planned out with Alex in advance knowing how he would react and would try to do. Then he smiled a big grin, "You two had me pegged from the beginning didn't you? and yes she did." "Alexandra did, but I agreed that you would react that way." She walk up to him and sat on the edge of her desk. "Has much as Alexandra was in pain, I knew that you were suffering also, and like her you had to get through and the only way was with the motion... if not... you wouldn't heal." Drake felt so exposed to her and the love he felt for her. He could not help but think that the two women that understood him most was on the same ship. He got up and stepped up to her to give her a passionate kiss to let her know that he was glad that they had done that. "I now know that I made the right choice in a mate. I think you should go and confirm that you will go with Alex and the fact that she may need some help with a party she is throwing together for later. I would like to leave in the morning, besides, we still have a dinner date to accomplish." Drake finished with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. "You better come for diner, I'm very capable of hunting you down and hold you to it." She smiled and wink at him. "Yes, she will need my help and we need to talk her and I. I will be ready for diner and for leaving." "Then it is a date, I need to go talk to Jerad and make arrangements for you with your stuff." Drake did not want to force her to stay with him so he was going to make sure that quarters was available for her if she so chose to use it. "Ok see you at the party then, just let me know when." "I will send a message to you! I know that I will not regret this decision... You have to know that!" "I know that love, I just had to see that I cant make decisions for everyone I love." Drake kissed her again and turned to leave. He was a very satisfied person at that moment, he just hoped that his and her decision would not come back to haunt them. Stardate: 2405.03.18 (USS Cochrane – Holodeck 6 - COUNS. Cantarzini & CO Lowell- 1055) Rose left shortly after Drake and made her way to Holodeck 6 with a lighter heart. The plan work, for a moment she was scarred that it didn’t. When she walk up in the holodeck, she found Alexandra her feet on the other chair, mostly in a relax position. When she saw Rose, she took them off and said nothing until Rose was on the veranda. For a moment, Rose look around with a smile and sat on the inviting chair. A glass of champagne waiting for her. They were looking like to accomplices. “So… tell me!” “It took a moment but he did finally come around. The Collins family will benefit from me to be there, the boy even more so.” “How did Drake react when he knew that we set him up like this?” She finish her glass. “At first stun, but after that very happy. You are free and he is free now… I felt it right away.” She took a sip. “Hum! Good!” “I saw that too when he left. Remember, it could be dangerous, Drake seem to have made enemies, adding the ones we had in the past.” “I know that… you don’t have to tell me twice. I can handle myself and I will be careful. Now the only thing left is Lt. Comdr Tahlmari.” “Yes, that is true… I know just how to do that. The reports have been filed… right!” Alexandra look around the beach scene. “Computer save program, keep the base of this program for another. Add a beach bar, 2 waiters on the right side of the beach. Left side, create a stage and a music band that will go accordingly to this scene. The repertoire of music will depends on what the people will order. Waiters, both males and females, 3 of each and reproduce this program in the six biggest holodeck on the ship.” [Holodeck program completed and set up.] “Alex… yes, the reports have been filed… What do you have in mind?” “I can’t tell you Rose… I just can’t. I know that I have to be present at Lt. B’Lanor presentation but I have to pick my moment with Tahl.” She smiled maliciously. “Well, computer, reset this holodeck to the original program until I say other wise.” The band and the bar disappeared for the peaceful scene of the tropical forest. She took a deep breath, the smell of Risa blue rose and the ocean air was rather stimulating. “What do you think?” “It looks wonderful, very beautiful.” “Thank you! Well, I have things to do and I know that you have too. This beach is waiting for me and I will have some fun and get ready mentally.” “Will you tell me what he said!” “I will… don’t worry… Just get ready! Computer, exit!” Rose and Alexandra left the holodeck and went there separate ways. Once that out of the way, she knew she would have that meeting with Drake but she wanted to get an holodeck program ready, she wanted it to be perfect has much for the meeting that for Tahl later. She did read Julia’s resignation and she knew that would work Tahl’s mind… what better then a distraction. She recreated and tropical Island on Risa, a beach house outside there was a climbing Risan blue Rose at the bed room window. A little pound with cristal clear that could be reach by a rock pavement. The meeting with Drake went okay, he was rather surprise of how many details Alexandra remembered there Island. She had a bottle of champagne on ice on the veranda of the beach house, Alexandra finished by to tell him everything that she thought during those long years and link it to what Rose might feel. Part of it wasn’t any surprise but others was, having all out help free herself but she also knew that it would strengthen there relationship. Once he left, she rush out of the holodeck to her quarters put on her bathing suit a summer dress over it, her towel and went back to the holodeck and for once she did nothing then sun bathing and took a few dives in the ocean. Has time pass, she knew that B’Lanor’s presentation time was coming. She got dressed, finish her light diner and left the holodeck. When she arrived, nearly all the senior staff. She saw eyes looking at her… true that she wasn’t in uniform. “Hello everyone!” (Reply from anyone and everyone) “Great! A day off was what I needed… I can’t wait to be back on that Risa island I created.” She knew full well that Tahl heard that. Alexandra sat in front and waited to B’Lanor to start which was on time like usual. She said nothing during the entire presentation, and let everyone pitch in asking question. She had the entire thing recorded for later consultation, her head was more or less on work at the moment, but aware enough of the important of every invention coming from the science labs. Then came the surprise at the end, which came has an happy surprise. “That concludes our demonstration for the present time, with one small exception. During a recent investigation into human traditions conducted by myself, I found that it was traditional for a Captain to receive a gift from her crew. As far as I am aware Captain Lowell has received no such gift since her promotion, therefore on behalf of the Science Department of the USS Cochrane and her crew, both of which the Captain protects every day, I present these as tokens of esteem.” Fugan opened the polished walnut box he had carefully stored beneath the podium revealing several metallic devices and a leather bound book. Fugan placed the box on a table that shimmered into being in front of the captain and withdrew one of the objects; a badge shaped like a falcon, “Since the Captain of a vessel must wear many faces I give you this Chameleon Badge, which will allow you to holographically alter your appearance to any of those stored within its database.” Fugan handed the badge to the Captain. Fugan withdrew a small oval of metal which glistened almost like it was liquid yet it appeared solid in all other respects, as his hand touched its surface it morphed into a metallic PADD “Since the Captain of a vessel must defend the lives of her crew I give you this changeling device, which can alter is composition at a thought to create a multitude of devices.” Fugan handed the PADD to his Captain, which changed to the shape of a knife as she took hold of it. Fugan withdrew the last device which appeared to be a small black box, as did so he activated a small control before he spoke in Vulcan, the small box held within his hands translating his words into Federation standard with a heavy metallic suggestion to the copy of his voice produced. “Since the Captain of a vessel must seek peace and understanding I give you this prototype version of the universal translator utilised throughout the Federation today to enable prosperity and growth.” Fugan took the last item; the leather bound book, which had gold lettering upon its black surface proclaiming its title, “Since the Captain of a vessel must uphold the law I give you this copy of the laws of the United Federation of Planets and the Protocols of Starfleet” Fugan handed his captain the book and stood back slightly with his hands behind his back in a typical Vulcan posture awaiting her response. Alexandra took a few step closer and put back the objects in the box, she let it open and she look at Fugan and the others. “Well, those gifts will be useful for the next expedition.” After a short pause, see Tahl’s eye grow bigger. “Just kidding, it seem that have inherited a very protective First officer… the way it should be I guess. Lieutenant B’Lanor… thank you for you gifts, they are welcome and in the future… what ever happens… they could become useful… Thank you!” “I promised myself not to make a speech, but it seem that it is the appropriate thing to do. Some of you know me and went through a lot of stuff. The Xenolith, those isomorphic hologram on the T’Kon station. Some of you who are new got a glimpse of who I am. I must have shaken a lot of what you have figured out about me, about my past coming back. It’s okay, everyone has one who sometimes come backs and bite you at the wrong time and it should. I can see a lot of new faces, and also some stress… so on Holodeck 6 and other holodecks, I have set up a beach party, you can make up everything you want, music, drinks. etc. Naturally… off duty hours. Schedule will be more flexible for the next couple of days but after that… it’s back and no lateness. Pass the word!” Alexandra look at B’Lanor wondering if it was over, this one yes with his head. “Okay people, the presentation is over, I want to have your reflection about this written out. A copy to Lt. B’Lanor and to me. See you later! Fugan, have your gift box sent to my Ready Room, and it was a good presentation. Tomorrow, you will have my reflection about it, I need some time to think about it.” (Reply from B’Lanor) “See you at the beach!” Alexandra left the room with a smile on her face. (Reply from Tahlmari, B’Lanor, Romonov, Menelian, Dorkin, Bell, anyone) (Posted from Laurence Durand) Stardate:2406.03.18 Mission : Needle in the Hay, day 4 Stardate : 2406.03.18 (USS Cochrane, Deck 7 - Scientific Holodeck - CTAC/SC Ensign Griegor Romonov 1400) Fugan watched as several more crewmembers entered the Holodeck and took a place upon the seating arranged to one side of the room, currently programmed to resemble an auditorium of greater size than that of the true Holodeck.  The Vulcan mused briefly on the advances in technology that made such an illusion possible, appreciating that his grandfather had been one of the primary scientist involved with the development of the Federations first Holodecks and now his grandson worked on improving those same systems.  Fugan fingered the IDIC medallion he wore beneath his uniform, meditating on Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations and of the sameness of things, both of which made the Federation what it was.  His thoughts were interrupted by the quiet hum of a forcefield generator activating; surrounding the room in a cocoon of energy to prevent the information within falling into the hands of adversaries of the Federation, the security personnel dotted around the room had not escaped Fugans attention either however he was somewhat gratified that his officers participation was considered so valuable.Confident that the last crewmembers had arrived Fugan moved towards the podium to begin, “Firstly I would like to thank you all for your attendance, it is an infrequent occurrence for the discoveries completed by this vessels science team to be displayed in such a manner and I hope it will be of great benefit to all crewmembers of the Cochrane.  I also believe it to be a logical proposition that you are aware of exactly what purpose the Cochrane serves as a Research vessel and the advantage of such a relatively unusual role, for although all Starfleet vessels are generally considered to carry out scientific, and indeed diplomatic pursuits, none are fully dedicated to the continual pursuit of knowledge as the USS Cochrane.   That will be the last comment I make during this presentation as CSO, the remainder will be made as purely a scientist.”  Fugan paused to activate a control on the podium resulting in a section of the wall behind him shimmering and reforming a standard marine shooting range.  As he activated the control he gestured to a marine in full BDU armour to move into position at the nearside of the range.  The marine; a Lt Smith, had been suggested by Major Dorkin to assist with the demonstration of several items, which were indeed intended for general marine usage, and was logically the ideal candidate to support the demonstration.  Once the Lt had gestured that he was prepared Fugan tapped a small control on the transporter buffer belt he wore, grasping the phaser rifle that materialised. “This is a Mark IV-A phaser rifle configured for interaction with the HUD systems within the standard Pallas marine helmet, although the rifle is fully capable of interfacing with a headset for use by tactical personnel. The rifles basic capabilities are similar in extent to the Mark III-b phaser rifle with a slight increase in power pack storage capacity and increased efficiency within the burstfire phaser coils.  This however is where the similarities end.  The inclusion of transporter displacement technology allows the targeting of objects hidden from sight behind barriers or even within another object.  By modifying the sensor package of the Pallas helmet to include an exographic targeting sensor, marines can scan through several layers of bulkheads allowing optimum firing accuracy.” Behind Fugan the Lt fired several shots at a target firstly located behind a duranium bulkhead and then a second target within a computer.  Overhead sensor schematics indicated the destruction of both targets, with no damage being caused to components located in close proximity around the second target.   “Transporter displacement creates an accuracy differential of 0.8% compared with standard firing modes, however is considerably energy efficient effecting a zero alteration in power pack operational life when compared to the Mark III due to the modified power packs.   Transporter displacement is able to operate effectively with either pulse or sustained firing modes although displacement when firing in pulse mode will reduce accuracy by a further 3.4%, however given the nature of the technology the most logical use would be for precision attacks and therefore it is unlikely burst fire would be required.” Fugan paused as the simulation behind him altered slightly and Lt Smith fired again at the first target, this time however the shots were stopped several meters from the target by a forcefield. “Unfortunately the phaser displacement is entirely ineffective against shielded targets thus facilitating the requirement for transphasic pulse round capability.  Essentially the transphasic coils create a phase variance within a set rotational parameter which collapses after a certain interval depending upon the exact phase variance, which is calculated depending the targets range, thus allowing phase equilibrium several nanometers before impact and in effect allowing targets to be affected by pulse.  The transphasic coils are only effective when utilising the single or pulse firing modes and require a considerable amount of energy to prove fully effective.  This reduces the operational effectiveness of the weapons energy packs by 20% for each transphasic shot compared with standard usage.  This means that the transphasic technology is only of beneficial use when facing shielded targets, in all other scenarios transporter displacement is more effective due to considerably decreased energy requirements.” Lt Smith fired several shots in quick succession at targets quickly alternating between different modes of firing depending upon whether the target was shielded or not.  Sensor data continued to display results above Fugan indicating various statistic data including the target status as well as the energy levels remaining within the rifle.  Fugan was momentarily astonished at the marines’ ability to determine the appropriate firing mode, select it and fire accurately at such high speed; he himself was only capable of a fraction of the speed when targeting so accurately. ~After this demonstration I must remember to thank the Major for his excellent suggestion~ “The rifles phaser stream can be further modified to intermix nanites into the energy stream allowing rapid decomposition of non-organic targets, alternatively chemical tranquilliser can be intermixed into energy stream to allow faster neutralisation of targets normally resilient to standard stun settings.  The rifle is further enhanced through the inclusion of quantum resolution targeting systems with an enhanced gravimetric distortion package, which improves accuracy by 16.7%, as well as extending effective range by 4.2% over standard Mark III values.  The primary problem encountered during the development of the Mark IV is the requirement for a lengthy production time, unfortunately several key components cannot be replicated and thus must be manufactured manually, a process which has proved extremely time demanding.  This has facilitated the requirement that the Cochrane will be the only vessel to be equipped with the Mark IV at this time, and even onboard the Cochrane the rifles will be limited to Marine usage and tactical officers only, at least for the time being.” Fugan reactivated the control upon the transporter buffer belt he wore allowing the phaser rifle he had displayed to disassemble, “Are there any questions?” (reply any) “As many of you are no doubt aware I have a great interest in the field of transphasic physics, this area of science is presently still in its infancy however developments made by this vessels science team have created several advantageous devices utilising this technology.  The first is the development of a personnel phase cloak, which will theoretically prove a significant asset to our tactical personnel, as it will allow them to pass through matter and energy barriers effortlessly allowing effective reconnaissance as well as an invaluable aid to the defence of the Cochrane and attacks made by her personnel.  The cloak has currently entered the field-testing stage, together with the assistance of Major Dorkin and Ensign Romonov it is hoped that the device will be prepared for full operational duties within the next 8 weeks.  The advantages of such a system are easily comprehended by a simple demonstration.”  Fugan tapped a control on the podium and waited patiently for the logically predictable reaction.  Several seconds later a cry of surprise came from the seating towards the back of the room as several science officers appeared nearby, the security personnel around the room instantly moving towards the arrivals but stopping with a motion from Fugan. “Although this room is currently heavily shielded and guarded on the surrounding decks these officers were able to penetrate those defences without any difficulty, or indeed with minimal espionage training.” Fugan watched the science officers who had appeared take seats placed for them towards his left hand side. “The science department will also work with Major Menelian to modify several fighters to be equipped with phase cloaks for use in reconnaissance missions and tactical supremacy. Thus the phase cloak will logically prove a significant asset, however it is not the only development created through transphasic studies, in conjunction with the medical department we have been able to modify several standard devices to utilise transphasic field coils thus facilitating the ability to operate upon a patient without any surgical incursion, as well as allowing delicate areas of the body to be operated upon with negligible damage to the surrounding tissues.” “May I enquire if there are any questions regarding this topic?” "Yeah, I got one" Griegor said standing up. "Can we rig a torpedo to use this device allowing it to explode within the hull of an enemy ship? (reply Fugan) “With regard to personnel protection we have also developed a Personal regenerative shield generator which can function independently or in tandem with the phase cloak systems.  Based somewhat on the design utilised by our own Captain,” Fugan gestured towards the Captain seated in the front row,  “the shielding system has been modified for greater energy efficiency allowing use on extended missions, as well as the ability to gain energy from other sources including weapons fire, energy terminals and indeed high-energy radiation emissions thus enhancing the shielding capability and increasing the operational lifespan.  The shield systems are composed of highly focused spatial distortions which contain an energetic graviton field in a spherical configuration, the shield itself is projected by a set of transmission networks located within the generator unit which is sufficiently small enough to attach to a belt; when matter or energy strikes the shield, field energy is concentrated at that point to create an intense localized spatial distortion protecting the user from harm.” To Fugans side Lt Smith took aim and fired a shot directly at the CSO, shortly before the shot would have hit it impacted upon a shield that flared briefly illuminating Fugans slender frame, the marine quickly fired a succession of shots at a higher setting each of which impacted the shield, Fugans face displayed the same lack of emotion as normal even as the rate of fire increased briefly as several other officers added their firepower, then stopping altogether. “Slightly overly dramatic however I believe it emphasised the capabilities of this device, are there any questions?” Griegor stood up again "How many hits can that take, and for how long? (reply Fugan) “Transphasic studies are naturally not the only area of development, indeed significant advances have been made in the field of gravimetric field mechanics allowing the development of several devices.  The first of which is the gravimetric turbine alas while not as pyrotechnical as the previous demonstration the turbine should prove invaluable in emergency conditions.  Gravity is the one constant in this universe; the gravimetric turbine harnesses this force with 99.9999% efficiency, far greater than our warp core or fusion engines, however the energy generated is small compared to these other methods of power generation although constant.  Thus several turbines distributed throughout the ship can provide additional power generation to assist in standard operations, in crisis situations the turbines can provide important emergency power in vital sections.  More significant is that the power generated is unaffected by the majority of power dampening distortions due to the gravetic properties inherent in the stored energy, although not sufficient to power the vessel the quantum capacitors should store sufficient energy to allow operation of essential systems.  I believe this device is self-explanatory however are there any questions?” (reply any) “Recent developments in gravimetrics have allowed the development of a gravimetric field distortion rifle, the rifle was designated ‘grav gun’ by a member of the science team and it would appear that the name has proved popular.  In effect the ‘grav gun’ allows gravity fields to be manipulated over a limited area targeted by the rifle, the field can be increased or decreased in strength allowing enemy forces to be in effect rendered ineffectual or to allow the destruction of emplacements.  Due to the mechanics involved the ‘grav gun’ proves considerably more effective against targets of greater mass and thus should prove the most economical method of demolition compared with other presently available technology.   However the device suffers from considerable range deficiency and testing has shown the maximum range to be 30m and thus the weapon could only be utilised in a support capacity or within close quarters engagements, this disadvantage is offset somewhat by the independence from recharging as the rifle utilises a gravimetric turbine to provide its entire energy requirements. ” Fugan triggered a control that caused the rear of the holographic room to alter again, however this time it took the form of a planetary surface with a large-scale installation in the distance.  Lt Smith moved forward armed with a short compact rifle, which he aimed towards the installation.  Fugan detected a low hum of approximately 2 dB which slowly increase in pitch until members of the crew could also detect it, eventually the hum settled upon a fixed frequency for several seconds then the installation collapsed completely along with a spherical area of ground about 10m in diameter. “Any questions?” (reply any) “A similar technology has also been placed onto a modified type VIII probe creating a gravetic distortion generator which should be able to halt small vessels and torpedoes movements completely; holding them in place within the field, as well as considerably reducing the manoeuvrability of starships with the actual velocity reduction dependent upon the mass of the vessel in question.  Hypothetic scenarios have shown that six such devices distributed in a globular formation around the Cochrane should effectively disable all incoming torpedoes and fighter craft within 20Km.” Fugan watched as the holographic display above him altered to display a space combat scenario, and the surrounding room altered to show the dark vacuum of space with the podium and seating remaining floating in space.  Several squadrons of fighter craft flow over the heads of those sitting prior to approaching a simulation of the Cochrane at high speed however after several seconds had passed they appeared to strike some form of barrier and then were fixed in place. “The Cochrane herself as well as our own fighters will be unaffected by the distortion field through utilisation of Gravimetric deformation thrusters modifications to their impulse engines, while within the field such equipped vessels will be effected slightly by the field however no more than 10% of the effect experienced by an unequipped vessel.  If used outside the effects of such a gravimetric distortion the engine modifications should increase impulse drive effectiveness by 12.6%.  It should be noted however that the gravimetric field has proved completely unsuccessful against energy weapons and thus the generators can be targeted and destroyed by attacking forces without difficulty, they should still prove a significant tactical advantage in any confrontational situation.” The auditorium appeared to move close to the fighter craft which fired several phaser blasts against the uppermost generator, shields flared briefly before collapsing shortly followed by the destruction of the generator, the fighters continued their attack against each generator in turn.  The attacking fighters jolted forward suddenly as the force holding them was released with the destruction o the final generator, as they continued their approach against the Cochrane the simulation vanished being replaced by the original auditorium simulation. “Any questions on either of these devices?” (reply any) “That concludes our demonstration for the present time, with one small exception. As the Cochrane made its way to their next destination repairs continued to be made. Reports came in as life began to settle into a routine for the Meredith class ship. It was kind of comforting to recieve a report of petty crimes coming in. He quickly rerouted them to the new security chief, which was even more comforting. The memory of his confrontation this morning with Julia still clung to him like a black coud. It pained him to have to go to such an sxtreme position with her, but really, he had little choice. As it was, he had trouble looking at her brother. Fortunately, he had been kept quite busy affecting the repairs of the ship. At least he didn't have to explain it to the captain. The thought of Alex having a day to herself made the FO smile. He hoped that she was making the most of her time. It was so rare that they had that kind of time. As the senior staff arrived for B'Lanmor's demonstration he was there to greet them. He hadn't seen Ensign MacRath since he had left her at the casino. She didn't appear to be worse for the wear. "Ensign," Tahl said, "how are you doing?" (reply MacRath) When Romanov came he asked how things were going. "How are enjoying being in charge of security now?" he asked. (reply Romanov) "I hope the tedium of the day to work does not wear you down," Tahl laughed. His rise to his current position had been fast and furious, and he had not really settled into the SC position before having to give it up for command. (reply Romanov) Then in came Alex. She looked wonderful. There was a glow of relaxation about her. Tahl's whole body tingled at her approach. Perhaps it was the dress, that clung to her figure so wonderfully. His mind tried to push everyone else in the room out of his sensory input. ~Careful there good buddy.~ came the voice of Bob. Tahl leaned his head back and scratched at his chin to regain his focus. "Hello everyone!" Alex said. "Why captain," Tahl replied, "how are you feeling? I'd like to see you later about your being out of uniform." He winked at her. (reply Lowell) "Great! A day off was what I neededâEUR| I can't wait to be back on that Risa island I created." Tahl's imagination went wild with that one. He knew the spot she had created. She had told him of it. He wished he could have spent the day with her there. Time for that later. Now it was time for business. He sat beside the captain during the presentaion. He closeness and her dress, with the feeling he was recieving from her provided to great a temptation. He had a difficult time concentrating on the demonstrations, and found his hand wandering over and touching Alex's hand and thigh. The demonstration went on but Tahl knew he was going to have to go through the information later. He would load it into the holodeck and run a simulation using the items. Then Fugan did something that Tahl had not expected. He had presented Alex with a gift. Several gifts actually. A chameleon badge, which Tahl thought might have some interesting applications, a prototype of a universal translator, and book of federation law. "He's a very giving person, is our Science Chief," Tahl whispered to Alex. She managed to stiffle her giggle. "Well, those gifts will be useful for the next expedition." Tahl looked at her with a over my dead body look. "Just kidding, it seems that I have inherited a very protective First officer... the way it should be I guess." "The way it is," Tahl said sternly. Alex went on to thank B'Lanor for his gifts and gave a short speach thanking everyone else for their support. "So on Holodeck 6 and the other holodecks, I have set up a beach party, you can make up everything you want, music, drinks. etc. Naturally... off duty hours. Schedule will be more flexible for the next couple of days but after that... it's back to work and no lateness. Pass the word!" At that the meeting was over. Alex said, "See you at the beach," and then she was gone. He gave a heavy sigh as Menelian came up to him, not allowing him to follow after her. "Lt Major Menelian, how is the flight squad recovering from the battel?" (reply Menelian, Anyone else) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.03.18 Mission : Needle in the Hay, day 4 Stardate : 2406.03.18 (USS Cochrane – deck 7, Science Holodeck – CO Lowell - 1400) "Why captain," Tahl replied, "how are you feeling? I'd like to see you later about your being out of uniform." He winked at her. “Wonderful… and any time you want!” She whispered back. "Great! A day off was what I needed. I can't wait to be back on that Risa island I created." Alexandra could see Tahl's imagination went wild with that one. She knew that he was imagining the spot she had created. She had told him of it. At the end of the presentation, about an hour later and has she took the turbolift to go back to the beach. Alexandra thought to herself that this was the perfect opportunity for Tahl and her to see each other… so she sent a message to meet her at Holodeck 6 that would remain private until she would say other wise. “Computer sent the following message to Lt. Comdr. Tahlmari. Meet me in holodeck 6, I would like to talk to you before I turn over the holodeck to the crew… it’s important. "I hope the tedium of the day to work does not wear you down," Tahl laughed. His rise to his current position had been fast and furious, and he had not really settled into the SC position before having to give it up for command. Griegor startred to chuckle. "Wouldn't have it any other way." (reply Tahl iyw) After the presentation Griegor went to the mess hall to 'celebrate' his new posistion since he didn't get the time to before. (USS Cochrane - Mess hall - 1435) He arrived and quickly ordered a vodka then sat down in the corner by the window and stared out into the dark, empty abyss and the white streaks as the ship passed stars at warp. ~Many years ago I wouldn't have imagined me being here in this posistion~ Griegor thought ~Heh, I didn't even dream I would still be alive at this point~ (reply anyone or none) (posted by Griegor Romonov) Stardate:2406.03.18 Mission : Needle in the Hay, day 4 Stardate : 2406.03.18 (USS Cochrane, Deck 7 – Scientific Holodeck, SO/CSO Fugan B’Lanor, 1420) “The science department will also work with Major Menelian to modify several fighters to be equipped with phase cloaks for use in reconnaissance missions and tactical supremacy. Thus the phase cloak will logically prove a significant asset, however it is not the only development created through transphasic studies, in conjunction with the medical department we have been able to modify several standard devices to utilise transphasic field coils thus facilitating the ability to operate upon a patient without any surgical incursion, as well as allowing delicate areas of the body to be operated upon with negligible damage to the surrounding tissues.” “May I enquire if there are any questions regarding this topic?” "Yeah, I got one" Romonov said standing up. "Can we rig a torpedo to use this device allowing it to explode within the hull of an enemy ship?" "Indeed the original aim of the project was to develop such a delivery system for torpedoes, however there is a significant limitation to the transphasic field when used in smaller appliactions, in effect it is an inability to operate in close proximity to anti-matter as it disrupts the field, thus making the application of the field to photon or quantum torpedoes impossible. This deficiency also means that conventional M/A reactors cannot be used to power the device since the power source for the phase cloak would require to be integrated, I believe we can solve this problem by using small quantum power packs, similar to those used by the Romulans, however it will require several more months of testing before any such transphasic torpedo will be ready for usuage. Does that answer you question ensign?" (reply Romonov) “With regard to personnel protection we have also developed a Personal regenerative shield generator which can function independently or in tandem with the phase cloak systems. “Slightly overly dramatic however I believe it emphasised the capabilities of this device, are there any questions?” Romonov stood up again "How many hits can that take, and for how long?" "I am afraid your question is rather imprecise ensign since the number of 'hits' the shield can take will obviously vary depending upon what is 'hitting' it. However the shield is cabable of absorbing 215,000 TeraJoules per minute without collapse, more than sufficient to absorb a level 12 phaser hit indefinately. However the shield is also cabable of absorbing a high power photon grenade impact without collapse even though the explosion would be of considerably greater size, simply because the time of impact is much smaller. Due to the regenerative nature of the shield it is capable of operating forever, however large energetic impacts will cause a temporary collapse of the gravitonic field allowing further impacts to penetrate." Fugan glanced at the ensign wondering if he sought any further elaberation, "Is that sufficient to answer you question?" (reply Romonov) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “That concludes our demonstration for the present time, with one small exception. A copy to Lt. B’Lanor and to me. See you later! Fugan, have your gift box sent to my Ready Room, and it was a good presentation. Tomorrow, you will have my reflection about it, I need some time to think about it.” "Thank you captain, I look forward to you analysis and opinion captain" “See you at the beach!” The Captain left the room with a smile on her face. Cmdr Tahlmari- 1430) The ride back to the ridge was a long one. Tahl had managed to catch a turbo lift with James Bell. He could feel the tension eminaing from the Chief Engineer. It wa obvious that he and his sister had talked. Or perhaps they hadn't talked. Perhaps he was working on suposition. Tahl needed to find out if things were going to be this strained all the time. He was about to open his mouth to speak when the turbo lift slowed and opened onto the bridge. Tahl sighed, hoping that the tension would ease without having to say anything. He already knew that he was fooling himself, but was willing to live with that for right now. The FO wasn't ready for another major confrontation right now. Tahl headed for his seat and relieved Tarz from command. He watched the Klingon head back to his station at tactical, a little envious of his position and having little responsibility. Julia continued to weigh heavy on his mind. Was there another way to settle that. ~You know there wasn't.~ Bob was very convincing. ~You did evrything but bend over backwards. Face it buddy, you're the boss and sometimes being the boss sucks.~ Tahl had to agree with his imaginary friend, and was somewhat comforted by him. Now he could turn his mind to the present and future. His first order of buiness was to send out a general notice of the beach party. He compsed a ship wide memo. It took him a little time to search archives for just the right wording. "Cowabunga Dudes and Dudettes. In celebration of our new captain, and our mission, all off duty personell are invited to a Beach Party on holodecks 1-6. Bring a friend. Bring someone you ant to be a friend. Come alone and make a friend there. Just be there for the best party in the quadrant. Surf boards are optional." "Computer relay message to all ships personell." The computer beeped n acknowledgement of the command. Then he noticed a message coming through on his own personal screen. it was from Alex. His heart raced as he pulled in up. " Meet me in holodeck 6, I would like to talk to you before I turn over the holodeck to the crew... it's important. " Tahl smiled. Must be nice to be on vacation. She certainly looked more rested than before. And the outfit she was wearing definitly gave him impure ideas. He wondered what was so important that it couldn't wait. Well, never let it be said that Tahlmari of Zakdorn ever kept a beautiful woman waiting. He turned to Tarz. "Tarz, you have the bridge... again." He smiled at the Klingon's reaction. Basically he wondered why the world Tahl even came back to the bridge. (USS Cochrane- Holodeck 6- 1440) Tahl entered the holodeck and stopped right at the entrance. The feeling was wonderful. He took in a deep breath and could even taste the saline in the air. This holodeck technology was far superior to any he had worked with before. It really was difficult not to believe that you were on the beach at Risa. Not that he had ever been there before. Alex had been appalled at his lack of experience in vacationing. She had often said that they would have to hgo on many vacations together. Tahl thought that it was a great idea. He finally got his legs moving and walked along the beach. He could feel the sand making its way through the pores of his clothing and depositing on his feet. He laughed to himself. As he walked along the beach he saw Alex laying outside of a structure. At least, he suspected it was her. She was laying face down, on a towel, and appeared to be asleep. As he walked closer he realized that she was ... "sun bathing"... was the term. He smiled at the sight of her. He continued to get closer and realized that she had apparently left her whole body to the elements, as her back seemed devoid of any covering at all. ~This should be interesting.~ Bob's voice commented. ~Get out of here!~ Tahl tod his imaginary friend. Tahl stopped right beside Alex, but she hadn't moved. Tahl suspected that she had fallen asleep. He knelt beside her and just watched her breath for a minute. he could feel the sweat start to form under his uniform. Gently he reached a hand out and stroked down her back.
