SG Heinrich Kruze - 1701) Heinrich was in a haze. He had blotted out most of the last mission from his mind, but he was working to repress too much. Memories would leak out in his dreams, images would flash before his inner eye. Wisps of blonde hair and the smell of antiseptic would freeze him, call him to a past he did not want to relive. He desperately needed a break. But work was his chosen method to shut the door on his past. While he was standing in the lab, taking a deep breath before starting the simulator, Quinn had walked into the room. She didn?t notice him at first, and in those unaffected moments he could tell she was having a rough go of it as well. ?Hi.? She said once she noticed the doctor. ?Well, hello.? Heinrich said, pleasantly. He expected to get into a conversation, something that was welcome to him in his state of mind, but she put away all niceties and went to work. Foz went into the kitchen and pondered how to break the news to his boss. The man would probably throw a fit the moment he called. But he didn't have any alternatives. On the bright side, a nice lady gave him a plate full of snacks and a glass of juice, along with a smile. He smiled back and thanked her, then went back to his pondering as he drank the juice and ate the snacks. He finished the snacks and juice, then took a deep breath and went to the communicator. It didn't take long to get his boss on the line. As he explained his day, his boss got redder and redder. After he finished, his boss launched into a rant that ended with the words..."YOU'RE FIRED !!" Then the unit went black. His boss had clearly cut the channel. So Foz sighed and walked out of the house. He made his way to the truck and tried to start it. Alas, to no avail. He got out of the truck, only for it to de materialize. Clearly, his now ex-boss had arranged for the truck to be returned to base. He began to walk towards the nearest town, when the transporter snatched him up. But when the beam faded, he realized that he had not gone anywhere. His uniform - including his shoes - however, was gone. ~Left me in my underwear.~ Foz sighed and continued his walk of shame. The farmhouse and farm had been a wedding gift from Ailynn?s family on the occasion of her marriage to Caity. The surrounding orchards all producing apples of the best quality that once harvested would all be turned into cider. Sighing contentedly, Ailynn heard the door open and close behind her and Caity?s perfume carried on the gentle afternoon breeze. ?They finally settled?? referring to their twin daughters, Sara and Alessa. Sighing softly, Caity shook her head, "I swear those two are polar opposites. When you think you have one sorted, the other starts and I am completely sure they know that I'm not as confident. Alex picked up his jacket, and after slipping it on held out his hand and walked out the back door, following the instructions that Caity had given him. "Can't believe how domesticated those two are, it's so lovely to see them so deliriously happy. Its down this way." He held her small, warm hand in his and then released it and slipped his arm around her waist. Leaning into him, Erin smiled gently. The walk, just being in each others company was somehow calming to her. Like all the troubles in her life just melted away when he was close by. "They are so happy. The path ran across the side of the orchard, and turned to face the ocean, the evening sun hung in the air, beginning to set casting its orange light across the cliffs. Its reflection dappling off the expanse in front of them. A small gasp escaped her lips as she saw the view. "This is stunning. " "Oh my, she wasn't wrong." He turned to Erin, her Hispanic complexion bathed in the evening light. "Beautiful. He said to her. Just being here with someone who finally got who she was was uplifting. Taking a step back He knew this was the moment. He reached into his jacket and lowered himself onto one knee, the box open displaying its contents for Erin to see when she turned round. Turning back, she saw him drop to one knee. At first, her brow furrowed then, as she finally realised what was going on, she felt her hand go to her mouth in surprise. "?I can't imagine my life without you in it. You brighten my darkest nights, bring meaning to my days, and fill the void in my soul. Erin?I'm completely I'm love with you." She knew she was trembling. The words he was speaking hit her like a brick. Never thinking that she would ever get a moment as perfect as this, her mouth opened slightly, wanting to talk but not finding the right words. "Marry me?" "I?. " She stuttered. Kneeling in front of him, a tear of utter happiness dropped onto her cheek as she nodded. He removed the ring from the box, and reached out to her hand. His hands shook and the pit of his stomach sank as she paused for her answering words. "Yes, a thousand times yes." She said softly, her hand stretching out slightly, trembling as the ring, a beautiful gold and diamond ring, slipped onto her ring finger. ?You will?? He shouldn?t have been surprised, Caity had reassured him that she?d accept, but still hearing the words he?d never expected to hear was a surprise. Taking his face in her hands she leant forward and kissed him gently, "No joke?" ?I've never been more serious." He sat on the grass next to the path, Erin's face illuminated by the sun. "I've never wanted anything more." She smiled widely, "Alex? you? I have no words. Well I stand by the one word I said. Yes." Alex's heart raced as he saw her beaming smile. Unable to form words, a tear of happiness escaped his eyes. Gently wiping the tear, she kissed his lips softly and leant her head on his shoulders, "This is just perfect." Having poured her a glass of red and left it on the table, she carried on with the washing up, her eyes keeping watching on the end of the garden and the gate she knew either both Erin and Alex would return through or just one of them. Ailynn stepped down the last few stairs, and placed the carrycot down, and stepped behind Caity, placing a kiss at the nape of her neck, and patting her bottom as she passed her wife. Shaking her head with a wry smile, "You thinking about helping?" ?Wasn?t trying to help.? She said whimsically, but picked up a small towel and dried up the last few dishes while Caity wiped the surfaces down. ?Where?s..?? "Out for a walk?.." she replied and gazed back at the gate. Spotting figures in the gently receding evening light, Caity put down the rest of the washing up and said, "Oh? I think they're back." She caught Caity?s withering look ?OOOoooh! Look normal!? Picking up the younger twin, she sat back in her favourite chair. ?Oh hush, little miss. Sometimes you have to be held by me. Sorry kiddo.? "Not right now, my love. Maybe later. Alex led Erin, back along the orchard path, deliriously happy, looking at her every few seconds. His arm close about her waist. Stopping at the end of the path, where the orchard met the garden, he opened the gate, and stopped, pulling Erin into a close embrace and deep kiss. ?Are you ready to be tackle-hugged?? He gestured with his head toward the farmhouse where he could see movement through one of the windows. "Tackle hugged, screaming and tears. That's just the twins." She replied with a smile and caught sight of the ring on her finger, "I'm?. How did I get this lucky?" ?I?m not sure having coffee thrown at you counts as lucky, but who knew.? Alex said walking by her once more, toward the house. "You do realise that Ailynn is going to have words. She's fiercely protective." He nodded. ?It's sweet. If unnerving. I?m glad I?m on her side.? He chuckled. They reached the door, and stepped back, allowing Erin to go through first. Fixing a neutral look on her face, Erin stepped through the doorway and said, "We're back. The cliff tops are stunning." Alex looked at Caity, and shared a tiny nod, unseen by both Erin and Ailynn. ?We?have an announcement.? Caity smiled softly, not wanting to spoil their moment but her heart swelled knowing what was coming. ?Oh?? Ailynn tried her hardest to keep a straight face, Erin never could hold a poker face for long, and she?d seen the flash of gold. ?The neighbours catch you making mad passionate love on the cliff path?? Ailynn couldn?t resist it. She picked up her glass and took a sip, then picked up Sara, putting her over her shoulder and rubbing her back. "Not quite but they may have seen something?" Erin replied and, glancing at Alex with a grin, held out her hand to reveal the ring now sat on her finger. ?Oh Erin?? Ailynn welled up immediately. ?Oh it?s beautiful.? She stood up, placing Sara back down in the cot briefly before pulling Erin into a tight hug. ?You look rather happy.? She whispered. "I am. Never thought I would ever have this." She whispered back, knowing her friend would understand. Smiling and pulling away, she hugged Alex. Her eyes smiling deeply, but there was a suggestion deep down that she knew Alex understood. He looked at Ailynn and simply nodded, and returned the hug. Erin watched the two and saw the look. Smiling softly, she took Alex's hand and smiled lovingly at him, "All he needs to do now is tell my dad? wait? is that what you two were talking about a few days ago when we had dinner with them?" Alex blushed slightly, and smiled. "We talked about a lot, but yes it may have come up. Shaking her head, she smiled and kissed his cheek gently, "I'm so happy right now." Alex turned to Caity and Ailynn. ?Would you mind terribly if we had some time?? "Not at all." Caity smiled Ailynn shook her head too. ?You guys have what you need. What?s ours is yours. Your room is top of the stairs to the left and keep going, epic sunrise, trust me." Erin smiled softly at Ailynn and then rested her head on Alex's shoulder. Ailynn slipped into Caity?s arms. ?We have two terrors to feed and then perhaps an evening walk?.? she sighed happily.? Here?she passed over a bottle of sparkling white wine. ?For a private celebration.? "Well thankyou, Milady." Erin replied, knowing she had a big smile on her face and not caring. ?Come on you two." Ailynn said to the twins, picking up Sara and passing her to Caity, then picking up Alessa. "Let's leave these two with some privacy." She winked at Erin. "We'll be heading up soon. Glass of celebration wine and then curl up I think is in order." Erin replied and winked at Alex. Alex blushed deeply, he knew there were whole conversations going on between Ailynn and Erin in the single words that they?d traded, far from naive, he realised that most of them were frankly suggestive at best and explicit at worst, but in himself, he didn?t mind. The fact that such jokes were made around him was an inclusion into an inner circle as such he?d never been part of. As Ailynn and Caity turned to leave the room, he caught Caity?s eye, and unseen to anyone else, mouthed a ?thank you? and a wink in her direction.
