When Reea learned Vulcans had that ability, she offered latinum to a Vulcan freighter captain she knew to teach her how to do it. That was the closest she came to seeing a Vulcan laugh. "When you wakened, was it difficult for you to return to normal duties?" said Reea. The captain's response was what she expected; he needed time to regain his strength, but there was one thing that intrigued her. "One thing I have noted, is a more pronounced understanding of what humans call, mortality," said Sekal. "I know what you mean, sir," said Reea. "My people believe there's another life after this one. Time passes faster than we want." Sekal replied with acknowledging his time as captain would end one day. If that happened because he died, he said he had someone that could take his katra to his home world. This fascinated Reea. Though Vulcans had a longer life span than the norm, was that life limited to only the here and now? "I take no emotional content from the exercise, nor is there any dread associated with it. It is simply a statement of fact and therefore logical," said Sekal. Reea studied the captain for a moment. "I don't want to take up more of your time. Thank you for sharing. I know you'll do fine going forward." (reply Sekal if you want) (posted by Renee Bishop) DAY 9>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 2- VIP Quarters 2- SFI-Michael Weston –0800) The hardest part about being a spy is the sheer boredom of waiting for things to happen. Most people think that being a spy is excitement and action, shooting bad guys and being in fights twentyfold hours a day, seven days a week. And every night you are having amazing sex with different women. Okay, Michael had to admit that he had had some pretty good… but the thing is it’s not like that. Actually it’s hardly ever like that. It just seems that lately there’s been a lot of excitement. But for the most part, being a spy meant waiting around, a lot, for things to happen. Usually he’d done his waiting on his own. At least on the Illuminar he had the opportunity to spend some of his wait time with Quinna. But she had things to do in order to keep up appearances, and her sanity. She couldn’t just sit in his room with him all day long. He had enjoyed her company. And he could tell he was having teal feelings for her. Maybe it was the mission, maybe it was the fact that she was the only one on the ship that would talk to him and not worry if he was going to sneak up behind them a thrust a knife in a sensitive spot. Or maybe she was the person he thought she was and how could a typical man not fall for that. But Michael Weston was not a typical man. But right now he had no place to go, and nothing to do. He had the computer replicate a deck of cards and found a small circular trash bucket and started tossing the cards one by one into the can. When he managed to get all of the cards in the can he moved the bucket further away. By now the can was about 10 meters away and he was hitting 32 out of 52 cards. He had just picked up the cards from his seventh attempt at this distance when the lights of his quarters flickered and went out. He sat on the saga against the wall and waited. The door, that had been locked, opened and then closed, and he could hear the movement of two people. “If this is the kind of electrical service you get in the VIP suites I’d hate to see what the rest of the ship was like,” he jibed. “No, no electrical failure Mr. Weston,” the same voice he had heard from the dark before said. “We are not quite prepared to share our identity with you just yet. There are still too many questions about you. And the fact that your identity was revealed by someone within our command structure leaves us much to be concerned about your true purposes of your desire to find out the truth about Captain Sekal.” “Well,” Weston nodded, “I can understand your concerns. But how can I find out the truth, if I don’t first know the lies. When you’ve worked intelligence as long as I have you find that those who tell the most lies know the most truth. It’s easier to get the truth from them by being deeper in their organization.” There was a pause. “That almost makes sense. But we need to know we can trust you.” “That trust is a two way street gentlemen,” Weston replied. “Gained and given. So let me start. How can I get your trust.” More silence. “The PADD and the doctor. Bring them to us. We can clean up this mess, one way or another with those two items.” Now it was Micheal’s turn to be silent. He had known that this moment was going to come. He wasn’t sure if they were assuming that she would not give him the password, or that she already had. One of those options was going save one of their lives. “Fine,” he finally replied. “Where and when.” “Bring them both to cargo bay 2 in two hours,” a second voice said. “And come just the two of you.” Weston laughed, it was so ludicrous like from an entertainment video. “Who would I come with?” Then he added, “What’s going to prevent you from killing me as soon as you have them both?” “And that,Mr. Weston,” voice said, “is the trust you must put in us.” Weston took a deep breath. This was too great an opportunity to pass up. “Then I want to meet you all,” he added. “I want to know who I am working with. All of you.” “That won’t be a problem,” the voice replied. “Two hours Mr. Weston,” “We will be there,” Michael replied. The sound of the door opened, then closed. When the light from the doorway disappeared the lights to his quarters came back on. Michael took a deep breath and rubbed his chin as he thought. It looked like the moment he had been waiting for. He grabbed a couple of items from a drawer and headed to the door. He figured he knew exactly where Quinna would be. Sickbay. (reply none) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar – Deck 5 - Sick Bay - SFI, Michael Weston/ CMO, Lieutenant Quinna Solice- - 0830) Michael walked into sickbay and looked to find Quinna. True to her word she was sitting in her office. But he knew that she hadn’t been there much. She was who she was, and first and foremost that was a doctor. He stepped into the office doorway and smiled at her. “Good morning doctor,” he said, “I have a problem. My arm hurts when I go like this.” He lifted his arm up laterally. Quinna put her coffee down and stood. She smiled as she moved to the door. “Well maybe I should take a look,” She replied as ran her fingers down the insides of his arm making her own observational evaluation. Michael laughed, “You’re almost as bad as your Vulcan friend. The pat response to that should have been… then don’t go like that. Come on people, you need some entertainment value in your lives. However… I do like this examination thing.” He wrapped his arms around Quinna and pulled her into an embrace. Stepping into the room the door closed as he kissed her on the lips. He looked out the window of the office and found the button that made the windows opaque. Once they were not being observed he released her. “The time has come my dear,” he said softly. “I was starting to believe that it wasn’t going to happen,” Quinna said, “I am ready. I know you probably are but are you? You know? Ready?” “Sweetheart,” Michael put his palm on the side of her face, “I thought you knew, I am always ready. There is one thing I should tell you. They are trading trusts. They want the PADD. “ “So…you have that but I am guessing that they need the access to the PADD as well. Do you think there is time to encrypt a dummy PADD?” She hated the idea of giving up all their cards. Michael shook his head, “No time for that. Besides, neither of us really knows what is on that PADD and if there was any sign of tampering it would prove… unfortunate for us.” He moved to the back of her office. “And technically,” he opened her desk drawer and pulled out the same tool he used before and opened the panel on the back wall, “you’ve had the PADD the whole time. I couldn’t think of a safer place to stow it.” “Oh what the hell, you are a devious man, Mr. Weston. I like it.” Quinna said. “Ok then let's get this show on the road.” Quinna said. She put her arms around Michaels neck and pulled him into a deep passionate kiss. If this was it, she wanted to go all out with a kiss to end all kisses. She then reached in her hiding spot and retrieved the weapon as well. Michael smiled, looking at the weapon. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a tube. “You’ll need this to make it work,” Weston said. He took the weapon and slipped the power cell into the bottom. It hummed for a moment and then went quiet. “Be careful with that. Whatever you are pointing at will die.” “We can’t have that.” Quinna moved around her desk and pulled a PADD out of her drawer. She placed it on her desk. “Ok, let’s go.” Weston looked at her with a question, but respected Quinna enough to not ask it. He just nodded. “Dr. Quinna, super spy. Let’s go.” He turned and led Quinna out of the office, hand in hand. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar – Deck 7- Cargo Bay 2 - SFI, Michael Weston/ CMO, Lieutenant Quinna Solice- 1000) Michael and Quinna had spent the last hour and a half talking about what possible things could happen. He tried to get her to focus on the positives of the mission but she wanted to keep the conversation to the “what if” game, which usually accentuated the negatives. “Michael, you need to trust me. Have a little faith in me.” Quinna said, “For the first time in forever, I have never been more ready for anything.” “I do trust you Quinna,” he replied. “But we’re going into the unknown, at least for you. I want you to remember the first and most important rule about this game. Do you remember what that rule was?” “I must do what you say.” Quinna said. Quinna knew his number one rule. She made the promise to him. Quinna straightened her posture. Quinna could not help but to wonder, where were they? “No matter what,” he said, looking at Quinna. Said “No matter what” with Michael. From there she remained quiet. She waited for the others to make their moves. “That rule is going to be very important right now Quinna,” Michael said. “It could be a matter of life and death… for you. I beg you, follow rule number 1. No matter what.” Before Quinna could respond the door to the cargo bay opened and 3 men stepped in. They each wore uniforms from different branches of the ship. Weston recognized the medic, Anson Williams. The other two men he did not know. “Good morning Mr. Weston, Dr. Solice,” Williams said. “Finally we meet, face to face and as we are.” Quinna did not act as she was surprised, but inwardly, she was surprised that one of her medics was in on this, “Mr. Williams, Why didn't you come to me sooner?” Williams shook his head, “We had to be sure. You were so… clean. Squeaky clean I believe was the phrase that was used.” The others nodded in agreement. “We want to thank Mr. Weston for showing you the light.” Quinna turned and looked at Michael. Deep down she figured she could have been played by him, "He did not have to work too hard to convince me." Quinna took a step away from Michael and toward Williams. Michael put a hand on Quinna to hold her back. ~Don’t seem too eager too early.~ He looked at the three men. “So this is everyone?” Weston asked. “Everyone you need to know,” the man in the yellow uniform said. “Hand over the PADD.” Michael frowned and shook his head, “I need to know who I’m getting into bed with. I was clear.” Quinna halted her moves, she knew she overstepped when Michael pulled at her. She had now become the spectator. This was not how she pictured things. It seemed too peaceful. Her spider sense told her that something was not right. The door to the cargo bay opened once more. The sound of footsteps moved towards them. Then Diane Chamberlain came out from behind some cargo crates. “Very well, Mr. Weston. Have it your way.” she said, holding a familiar looking weapon in her hand. It was the same weapon he had out a charge in and handed to Quinna. “Well now this all makes sense,” Michael said. Diane smiled, “Where else can I disseminate information and meet with a variety of crewmen without drawing suspicion. “Of course,” he said with a nod. “So now we’re ready.” Diane frowned, “Not exactly. My superiors will be pleased to get that PADD back, and are more than willing to accept Quinna among our ranks.” Weston noted an omission from her list. “But?” he asked. “But,” Diane continued, “they are not willing to accept you as a liability. In fact, I know one young lady who will be happy to see you dead.” “Lilith.” Michael said, resigning himself to his fate. “Exactly,” Diane said. “And we need something from Quinna.” “I am right here.” Quinna said, “And right now, let’s leave past events aside. They are not relevant here.” Quinna then looked directly at Diane, “I have nothing to give you, Diane.” Diane stepped over towards Quinna and put a soft, caressing hand on her cheek. “Ah sweet child but you do. We need an act of contrition. We need you to give us something that will tie you to us forever. We want you to kill Michael Weston.” Weston looked between Diane and Quinna. Then he addressed the doctor. “If you do this,” he said, “there’ll be no turning back. You will be tied to Roanoke forever, and they will have this to hold over you. Do what you believe to be right.” “Oh, I don’t know. I am kinda partial to him. He gave me something that no one else has wanted to.” Quinna moved closer to Michael. When her back was turned to Diane and the group, she pulled out a small pill. She then reached for Michael’s face. “I am going to miss this.” Quinna then pulled him into a long passionate goodbye kiss. Through sleight of hand, Quinna slipped the She then pulled out a hypospray and injected a poison into his neck. She took two steps back and watched him fall to the floor. Quinna turned back to Diane. Her eyes told the story. This was her first kill. Quinna dropped the hypospray on the ground. “Weapons of a Doctor. I don’t like messy deaths. He never saw it coming.” (Reply None) (Posted by Al M. and Kris B.) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> USS Illuminar - Deck 14 – Security Office – Chief of Security Lt jn Keung Lee & SPC Luma’lenai – 1404) “Luma. If this ship gets boarded, are you in a position to help to repel them?” called out Lee. Luma had spent the last hour fretting, grumbling because someone had known that the best way to shut her own was to steal her bondmate. And she did not approve. But Lee was talking to her, and she was not needed to fly right this second to avoid the bad hell-missiles as Sienna had dubbed them. =^= Luma can assist. Luma can beam the bad small ones into the space. Or the brig. But she will not move them to her time out shuttle. Luma can not assist if the connections to the ship are severed as they were when one of those hell-missiles impacted and took out the aft side. Some rerouting can be done, but if the impacts are in the wrong location, Luma can lose access to those ship systems, like she lost access to her eyes and ears in that area as well as access to skin’s legs. =^= Luma spoke frankly, Lee had a high enough clearance that he should know her limitations. Lee listened carefully to what Luma was saying and was impressed with the fact that Luma can beam the invaders off into space although putting them into the brig would probably be a bit crowded!! Luma was limited if the systems in the ships went down. “So Luma. What other defensive measures can you put into place to destabilize the boarders?” said Lee. =^= If none of our small ones are in the area, Luma can trigger the sleeping gases, but only if those connections have not been hurt. Our Sienna has given standing orders to the Trei that if the ship is to be captured, the Trei is to take Luma in a crystal with the Montero and fly quickly towards the Mars Base. Our Sienna says that Luma is not allowed to be captured and it would be best if the ship is captured for it to be rendered inoperable, which it would be without Luma since the Illuminar was designed to interface best with Luma. =^= “Well, Luma you be seem to be invaluable to the defence of this ship” smiled Lee. “I’ve just signed you up to be part of my boarding defence strategy. I probably need you as back up. Are you prepared to come under my orders?” =^= Luma is not allowed to follow the orders of the small ones without thought like they are supposed to. But if Luma agrees with the Lee’s words, Luma will obey. Especially if it is not contrary to what Our Sienna asks. =^= “What would happen if you were captured?. Can you defend yourself?” =^= If the skin was captured? Or if the bad small ones figure out how to separate Luma from the skin? =^= Lee thought the skin was the ship. “I see. It is imperative that the illuminar does not fall to the enemy. Are you able to take extreme measures..to destroy the ship without being emotionally distracted?” An indignant squawk can be heard before the very offended voice speaks, =^= NO. Luma will not terminate the existence of her small ones. Luma is the last of her species and to deliberately embrace entropy is not understandable by Luma. There are measures that Luma could take, rules that Luma was informed not to break.=^= She growled. =^= Luma’s Father is out there commanding the Hades! =^= Luma declared. “There are ways that the..er..small ones..will not be terminated. We do have escape pods onboard as well as shuttles. We can even adapt the transporters to materialise elsewhere.” explained Lee. “You have to understand that much of the systems on this ship including the infrastructure of the ship is a security risk to Stafleet if it falls to the enemy. Luma’s father fully understands the risks of the enemy knowing Starfleet’s secrets. I remember a comment made by the legendary Ambassador Spock who said ‘the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.’ Think about that one.” =^= Luma does not know of this Ambassador Spock small one.=^= The ship still was not happy with Lee. =^= If the skin is in danger, Luma can...disobey the rules...briefly. But Luma can not embrace entropy or allow her small ones to do so. Luma would rather be in trouble with her Father than allow one of the small ones to go away.=^= ~How on earth can I convince Luma~, thought Lee who was getting rather frustrated at Luma. What did she mean that she would allow her small ones to do so? Lee breathed slowly to avoid being angry. Luma does not own the ship. “Explain what you meant by not allowing the small ones to take action. Am I assuming if the command was to destroy the ship, you would stop the process.” He raised his voice a notch to see what reaction Luma would give. “You would physically stop us? What right have you got to do this...er..as for the father getting upset with you if we left in a dangerous position. Well, I tell you this..the father would be more than upset if you stopped the crew from destroying or getting off this ship. This ship and all its valuable data must..NEVER..NEVER fall into enemy hands. You realised the implication of this to you in the eyes of others...a traitor. Infact what if you were captured by the enemy...think of what they will do to you.” Luma’s voice rose in reaction, angry and emotional, =^= Why is that Lee acting this way? Why does that Lee argue with Luma stupidly? Luma will NOT allow her small ones to be hurt. Luma has… how does Our Saleke put it, Tricks. Luma has the ability to get her small ones to safety! If the ship is to be destroyed, Luma is to be taken in the crystal by the Trei and the Montero in their shuttle back to Mars. Luma UNDERSTANDS her job but that Lee obviously does not. This conversation is done. After our Sekal returns, if that Lee wants to discuss Luma with our Sekal then that can be arranged,=^= Luma paused for a moment then muttered, loud enough for Lee to hear, =^= That Lee is lucky that it is a time of crises. Otherwise Luma would imprison that Lee in the time-out shuttle and allow him to stew on learning better manners.=^= And with that the sense that even the nontelepaths had of Luma being present faded. ~Well..that’s put me in my place~, admitted Lee. After all that, Lee was now convinced that Luma had the interest of the crew. He was assured that Luma would not act recklessly if anything untoward happened to the ship and her crew. She had actually a contingency plan to get the crew to safety and the fact she will not be allowed to be captured. ~Wow! She’s one sensitive being who doesn't like to be criticised~. Lee decided there was no point in discussing this with the Captain. Let sleeping dogs lie. At least we have the ultimate defence weapon in Luma. (reply any) (posted by Mel & John >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar- Deck 8 - Science Lab 2 - Science Officers - Dr. Julian Penn and Dr. Teller - 1406) =^=This is Lieutenant Gregory. Please state the nature of your trick.=^= Penn thought for a moment then replied, “It would probably be easier to show you than tell, Lieutenant Gregory.” =^= Very well. We will be expecting you. =^= came Gregory’s reply. “We are on our way,” Penn said. Then he looked over at Teller and nodded. “Charlie Buckett to the Chocolate Factory.” “Mike TeeVee on the screen,” he replied. (USS Illuminar- Deck - Bridge - Science Officers - Dr. Julian Penn and Dr. Teller , FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin, 3O Lt Dieter Gregory- 1408) It was a quick trip up the turbo lift, and Penn and Teller were once again on the bridge, this time with official business. Penn turned to Teller and smiled. “Archie Bunker on his chair,” he said. The Tamarian nodded, “Fred Flintstone in Bedrock.” Sienna looked up at the two new scientists that had recently joined the ship. Her face showed the rapidly developing bruises from her broken nose. Someone was due on the bridge from medical soon to help fix it. She could not stand touching it, or pinching it to stop the bleeding, so she was gently holding a cloth against the leaking nose so as to not get any more blood on the furniture. “Belcome Gendalman do da Bridge. Dewdenand Gregory bill be dalking, mosdly.” She really could not wait for it to be fixed so she stopped sounding like an idiot and barely understandable. Gregory walked over to the Commander and the two scientists. “Thank you both for coming. Please explain what or how you can help us.” Teller looked at the Commander and then the lieutenant. “Joffrey on the throne,” he said to his partner. Penn shrugged his shoulders, “Rocky Balboa after Apollo Creed?” Penn turned to Verin and smiled, “We hope you are okay Commander.” Then he turned to Gregory. “Well, my brilliant friend here,” he gestures to Teller who was all smiles, “has come up with a way to break through the planet’s scattering field and retrieve the Captain and… well… whomever else might have been taken.” “Dudley with Nell,” he said to his partner proudly. Sienna looked between them, a look of pain mixed with confusion. She had never encountered anyone like these two before, but the Illuminar was a rather diverse crew, the kind of people attracted to the ship were not the standard human starfleet. She nodded towards Gregory, intending for the man to talk. Gregory nodded, “Very well, gentlemen, care to share this discovery with us?” Penn nodded, “Perhaps Teller should explain. After all it was his discovery.” He turned to Teller, “Like Kotter with the Sweathogs.” Teller laughs, “The sweathogs.” Penn was forcing himself not to laugh, “The sweathogs.” Teller looked at the Lieutenant and Commander, “Apple-Haken color the map. Lorenz’s butterfly,” he began. Pushing some buttons on his PADD, the main display started showing the atmosphere on one side, and a series of equations on the other. “Doppler dropping a rock. Sirac’s sea. Schrodinger's wave.” A few more taps on the PADD. Gregory looked at Teller and back to Penn, “And you understand him?” Penn looked confused for a moment. “And you don’t? I mean it’s pretty clear after that. I’m sorry I thought I remembered reading that you were an engineer. With a few minor adjustments we were able to penetrate the scattering field and create a hole that we can transport the captain through. It’s all right there.” He pointed to the PADD and clapped his partner on the shoulder. “Einstein with relativity.” Gregory nodded, “Yes, I have a background in engineering and particle physics. However, these equations are beyond what I’ve studied. And coupled with your friend's odd speech, my head is swimming.” Teller looked at the Lieutenant and back to Penn, “Kiteo, his eyes closed?” Penn nodded sadly, “Chenza at court, the court of silence.” He nodded to himself and turned to Gregory, “I apologize Lieutenant. I have been with Teller so long I often forget others do not understand the language or more precisely, do not have the knowledge base to comprehend the references. Tamarian itself is easily translated, but it takes time to know the social-historical background. We had to create a more common base of reference for others to understand him. He is quite brilliant after all.” He looked between the confused look in Gregory’s eyes and the fact that Commander Verin looked almost nauseated trying to keep up. Then he looked at the Lieutenant. “How much of the math would you care for me to explain? Or would you rather we just show you it at work?” he asked. “Ad work.” Sienna said, her voice muffled a bit by the cloth on her nose. “Please.” She was rather happy that her last word made perfect sense. These two scientists were speaking at a level far beyond her xeno-biology background. She had a feeling that Sekal could keep up with them. Penn nodded and indicated the science station to Teller, “Val Valentino on the stage.” Teller nodded and stepped to the science station. He called up his code and started running the programs. As the Commander and Lieutenant watched, the code on the display started running faster. As it did, the scattering field started to change. Gregory moved back to Operations and started scanning the atmosphere. “Commander, the scattering field is dissipating, in a sufficient area for us to get a lock on the Captain. Since Dr. Solice was on the Bridge and working on Sienna’s face, she said nothing, watching the information as she tended to. She was attempting to behave and hold still. Teller smiled, “Archimedes in the bathtub,” he said jubilantly . “Darmok and Jelad at Tenagra,” Penn cheered. “McGuyver with a knife.” The two men gave a version of a high five to each other, and laughed. Then Penn turned to Gregory. “We don’t know how long this will last,” he said, “you might want to collect our captain and crewmen now.” Gregory nodded and started scanning the surface, “This may take a few minutes,” he said. “I’m adjusting the narrow beam to lock onto their communicator signals.” Tapping his communicator, “McFry, I’m sending information to you now, locking onto the four communicator signals now. You’ve got one shot at this while we’ve got a hole in the scattering field.” =^= Acknowledged Lieutenant . Ready on your orders. =^= Gregory called out, “Commander, by your command?” “Absolutely. Do it, Lt. Gregory.” Sienna ordered, not caring if they were finished on the planet, she wanted her bondmate back. “McFry, bring them home.” Gregory said. “Mr. Teller, keep it up. Angular confinement is nominal. Matter stream is nominal.“ (Reply any?) Back behind the table, she looked at the Star Fleet officers, before pushing a button on her bracelet. Moments later a woman came in with a tray. On the tray was a large capped carafe and 5 glasses. "Please," the Controller said as the woman poured the slightly greenish liquid into the glasses. "This is pisang ambon, juice from the our native fruits. "You have our permission to go and eliminate these miscreants from our planet. " The controller took a sip of the sweet, banana-mint drink. "We have provided you with the information on what we need and what these people have been provided us. Will you help us?" (reply Sekal, any) (Posted by Tim >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sigma Draconis VI - Controllers room - CO- Captain Sekal - 1408) "We have provided you with the information on what we need and what these people have been provided us. Will you help us?" Sekal took a glass of the juice and tasted it then lifted it in salute before taking a long swallow. "As I said, I will notify command of your requirements and see to it that those goods are delivered on your required schedule. It is gratifying that we have come to a consensus." He looked around at his officers who were returning the Controller's salute. Galk took a taste of the juice and hid the grimace, the taste was good but at a meeting of leaders and formal exchange of vows a Klingon would expect a good, strong mug of bloodwine. And not just one, a fistful at the least. (Reply: T'Mur, Surkal) "We will need to introduce a security contingent to the facility to clean out the den of smugglers on your planet and with your permission we will post a ship outside your system to insure there is not a repeat of the incident. It will also assure there is no interference with your civilization and that the materials arrive safely. I assure you this is a protective measure only to insure your continued viability. There will be no interference in your affairs." (Reply: Controller) "Lieutenant T'Mur have you contacted the ship?" (Reply: T'Mur) The Captain turned his attention back to the Controller as the Morg handed him the padd which he then passed to Surkal. "Download the contents of the Controller's needs into a report and send it to the Ready Room as soon as we have returned to the ship." (Reply: Surkal) Turning to the Controller one last time Sekal finished the glass and replaced the empty glass. "I regret we cannot remain to speak further but I must return to my ship." He raised his right hand in salute. "Live long and prosper." (Reply: Controller) Sekal tapped his combadge. "Transporter room four to beam up. Energize." Red warning lights had lit up his panels as he watched the readout show multiple missiles and a Klingon cruiser, that apparently was having a warp core breach, all headed at the Illuminar. Suddenly Bohb’s head went fuzzy and his stomach suddenly lurched. He had to hold onto his station to maintain his footing, and keep his stomach from emptying. The cadet behind was not so lucky and began to hurl on the deck plating. As soon as he was able to focus he tapped a comm channel. “Luma, what just happened?” he asked. Luma’s voice sounded harried, exhausted and a little confused yet excited, =^= The skin microjumped.=^= Luma’s answer made little sense, but the structural load of the jump seemed to have been absorbed properly by the special systems designed specifically to handle that load, =^= Regrettably the best place to pull the power was from the phasers=^= Which were indeed deader than dead. “Microjumped,” Bohb shook his head. “What do mean the skin microjumped? Do you mean sudden teleportation?” He’d only heard the term in certain circles, and not all of them were reputable. He did not buy into the idea of spontaneous teleportation. =^= Luma moved the skin ten seconds into the future and 200k light years. It had regrettable side effects. But the engineering of the skin held up well, although the power needs to be tweaked. =^= She sounded slightly more pleased with herself. Bohb took a breath, further gathering himself together, “The engineering on my stomach didn’t hold up too well.” He looked over at Cadet Lewis who was still dry heaving on the floor. “Nor Cadet Lewis’, Wait a minute, you can move through time? How is that possible?” His mind already running through the permeation of calculations concerning time travel. =^= Luma is not anchored to the current time without a bondmate. Without a full bonding. Luma can skip as a stone does. It is not supposed to be something Luma should be doing. The Starfleet has many tedious, rather dumb rules about that. But Our Sienna ordered Luma to and Luma could have moved the skin to another area, but Luma’s Father is on Our Saleke’s Hades and leaving the Hades would be bad. Luma would be sad if the Father embraced entropy. =^= Bohb shook his head, “No, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be happy about it either. They all knew about this? How is it I don’t know? Who does know?” =^= Luma’s Vexa’ahlia, Our Sekal, Our Saleke, T’Mur’s Sienna. Not many. Maybe the Dieter. =^= Luma spoke in reply, =^= If it ‘got out’ then Luma would be hunted to acquire the skin. The ability is innate to the Lenai, not to the skin. The skin was just properly designed to handle the stress of the jumps, which the Mystique was not. =^= She sounded slightly sad about something but was concentrating on the remnants of the battle. Bohb had to smile in the reference to The Dieter, not her Dieter. “I bet. So now that you’ve done it there might be a few more, especially on the Illuminar and the Hades that might have an idea.” He scratched his chin in thought, “We’ll need to come up with a plausible explanation for what just happened that everyone can accept. We need to keep your secret to keep you safe.” =^= The Bohb, what makes a small one a traitor? =^= Luma’s voice was sadder than any time he had heard her in the past. “A traitor?” Bohb asked in disbelief. “Where did you pick up that term? A traitor is a person who, by action or in action, purposely works against the interests of those they have sworn allegiance to. Where did you hear that? Do you suspect that someone is a traitor?” =^= That Keung Lee wished to speak with Luma and that Lee said something about Luma being a traitor if Luma did not obey the orders if the skin was to be destroyed. That Lee does not understand that Luma had this discussion in the past. With the Remae. Luma will talk to our Sekal when it is time. The purpose of a bondmate is to reduce the friction between the small ones and Luma. Many mistakes are prevented by the bonding. The bondmate also provides a corporeal, stabilizing presence so Luma does not get lost in the rivers. =^= Bohb lost everything after he heard that Lee had called his Luma a traitor. His eyes narrowed and a thin curl of his lip turned up, giving Bohb’s usually pleasant face an almost evil glint. “Lee called you a traitor?” his voice was soft and menacing. “Mr. Lee and I shall have a… discussion. You are not a traitor my lovely Luma. You are the farthest thing from a traitor.” His hands had been gripping the edge of the station and when he released it the imprint of his fingers were left on the deuterium panel. =^= That Lee asked many questions. That Lee desired Luma to obey orders, which Luma is not always required to do. Luma considers the orders and then chooses the correct path based on Luma’s experience. Luma can be wrong. But most of the orders that Our Sekal and Our Sienna give are the correct ones. Our Sienna is learning.=^= “Absolutely not,” Bohb agreed. “You are a free and sentient being with rights to make choices concerning right or wrong. What was he asking you to do? Kill someone?” With all the talk recently about Roanoke Bohb began to wonder where Lee’s loyalties lay. =^= Of sorts. Contingency plans. That Lee did not phrase anything well. That Lee was concerned about boarders and how Luma could repel them and how Luma can defend herself. =^= More sadness colored her voice. Luma did not like death. “That Lee may have to learn to talk without his teeth when I see him,” Bohb could feel a rage in chest. Magillan, by nature, were peace loving people. That is, of course, unless their territory or friends and family were threatened. “Why was he concerned about borders while we are planning a boarding party of our own? You are right Luma, Lee did not phrase anything well. I believe I will have my own words with him, which may be equally inappropriate.” =^= That Lee will acquire better manners. But our Saleke said once that flies are caught with honey. When our Vexa’ahlia returns, Luma will have the Vex taste it. Slowly. =^= Whimsical was a good word for her current mood. Although Luma’s mood appeared to be lightening Bohb’s remained perturbed. However, to help Luma maintain her own more positive position he opted to change subject. “What would you have Vex taste, the honey or the flies?” he asked, not quite understanding the reference. He has never tried to catch flies, and why would he, they were annoying creatures, much like Lieutenant Lee. =^= Honey. Luma had my Vex try chocolate on our Sienna’s recommendation. Luma was not fond of it. When Luma is properly tight-bonded, the bondmate can experience the world and the grounding in the present time frame assists Luma. Luma wishes someone to pet the P’Rah so Luma can take proper care of her kitty-caitian. =^= Bohb actually laughed. He had never met anyone that was able to lighten his mood the way that Luma did. She was so… innocent. It is why Lee’s comment to her, while to him may have seemed cursory, was taken so hard. Lee was going to have to learn manners around Luma. She wasn’t just a piece of equipment. “Luma, I have about 101 questions about your ability to shift through time, and when we are not in the middle of a battle, I would love to ask them. Are you allowed to tell me about how you are able to do such things? Or have you been told to keep it a secret?” =^= Our Sekal has told Luma that the Bohb is to be informed of Luma and that the Bohb is trustworthy. If it makes the Bohb feel better, asking our Sekal would be the best course of action but Luma cannot truly explain the time shifting. It is what it is. When the Q came to Luma’s planet to help some of the Lenai escape the dying sun, it was one of the abilities granted when the Lenai who escaped were given the gift of a non-corporeal existence. The Lenai can touch all times and places at once. That is why a bondmate is so necessary. It was why the last male Lenai went insane. Without a bondmate, there is no anchor and it becomes overwhelming. That was why Luma needed the anchor and had to hard-bond to Our Sienna. This caused Our Sienna to fall flat on her face on the bridge.=^= Luma spoke rather matter of factly, and when she spoke of the Q there was true fear in her voice. ~Ouch, that must have hurt.~ Bohb thought to himself, choosing not to share that thought with Luma in case she suddenly felt badly about it. He made a strange face when he thought about Q. “Strange fellow, that Q. Interesting. I will indeed be talking to the son of Saleke. Perhaps he can give me reason not to dislocate both of Lee’s arms.” He thought for a moment and then added, “That is a joke Luma. I would not do that… again… to Mr. Lee.” =^= That Lee deserves punishment. Luma was considering dumping a bucket of glacially cold ice on the head of that Lee while he engaged in the rest period. As for the Q… the Q are to be feared and avoided, not courted. But that Q has visited several times. It finds us interesting.=^= Terror laced her words and they went higher in pitch. “I am certain he does,” Bohb acknowledged. “Hopefully he will leave us alone, at least for a while.” He looked around at Cadet Lewis. “I suppose I better get back to work, and help the cadet get cleaned up. He didn’t fare so well with your microjump. Thank you for saving us Luma.” With that Bohb hefted the moaning body of the cadet from the floor. “Easy there Cadet, you’re going to survive. Let’s get you cleaned up and then we can… clean up the floor of Engineering. I wouldn’t want Captain Sekal to walk in here right now.” That sense of Luma faded as she turned her attention to other parts of the ship, tending to her small ones. She was in a slightly better mood but the Lenai was still grumpy under it all, and would be until she got a chance to speak with her bondmate, who would clear it all up for her. In spite of the hard wired connection to Sienna, which had ripped through her telepathic shielding and left the Commander vulnerable. Luma was being careful not to overwhelm Sienna and help her remain sane. Luma had learned the hard way in the past that those fast bondings could cause a telepath of insufficient ability to go insane and never recover their telepathic shielding. But Luma was counting on T’Mur to assist Sienna, and once Sekal or Vex was back aboard, Luma would be able to allow the bonding to fade and Sienna should recover. (reply none, or any in engineering, please don’t step in the vomit) (posted by Al Muir and Mel G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Hades -- Deck 1 -- Bridge -- Vice Admiral Saleke -- 1412) The Illuminar had signaled back receipt of the communication and was moving toward the derelict as the Hades hunted the wolf pack and kept itself between them and the smaller ship. While the Illuminar class had crossed over in some ways to a fighting ship the Prometheus class from design to implementation was a ship of war. The Hades had performed many missions in her time but she had that pedigree. And if necessary she could split into three separate ships and hunt each one all at once. The pirates either knew or had come to the realization that this ship was not to be trifled with and were trying to escape. Perhaps it was seeing it slip into the battlefield unnoticed and taking down the Klingon cruiser with such ease that had frightened them. Coupled with its larger size and menacing cross-section it was the stuff of nightmares for the lightly armed and protected marauder vessels who had also been shown that their frightening weaponry had been reduced to the threat level of a pop gun. "Enemy vessels are splitting up sir. It appears they are making a run for it." "Accelerate and engage nearest enemy vessel. Prepare to disengage and intercept if they try to get around us to return to planet six." "Aye sir." The hum of the engines rose in pitch as the Hades leapt toward the nearest marauder. Their ships were smaller yes but not faster. Admiral Saleke's ship was top of the charts for speed amongst Federation ships. Some were known to say that this class of ship was a warmonger's wet dream. A well rounded vessel whose very silhouette could inspire terror and with the ability to separate into three distinct ships of equal menace and capability during a battle. But what would one call itself in such an instance? The answer to that was for ease of communication they were called Acheron, Phlegathon and Lethe. Acheron referred to what could loosely be described as the saucer section, that menacing head of the turtle that contained the main bridge. Each of the names referred to a river of the ancient Greek afterlife of the damned. Acheron standing for "Bringer of Woe". The upper engineering section was called Phlegathon meaning "Bringer of Fire" and the lower engineering section had been named by Saleke's engineering complement according to a running joke within StarFleet. They had given it the designation of Lethe, "The Forgotten Ones". The pirate vessel went through a series of frantic evasive maneuvers as the starship bore down upon it unmercifully like a fox being run to ground by a hound. "Within weapons range sir." "Fire torpedoes, Beta spread. Follow up with phasers." The muted thump of multiple launches heralded streaks of fiery orange as the quantum torpedoes raced hungrily for their quarry. One exploded in close proximity to the marauder, two more detonated nearby, the explosions shaking it savagely. The following phaser volley first knocked out its propulsion systems and the following blast turned it into an erupting flower of ionized games and debris. "The others are quitting the battlefield Admiral, they're going to warp. Should we pursue?" "Their heading?" "183 mark 2. They are leaving the system." "Change heading to return to planet six. I have given my word that we will safeguard the Illuminar as they take the Klingon vessel. Maximum speed." "Aye sir." The Hades turned and increased speed back toward the home planet of the Morgs and Eymorgs. The pirates had been put on notice, StarFleet would no longer suffer their depredations. They would be hunted to ground and destroyed without mercy. In the meanwhile they still had a base to be taken down and it was time to learn how and why they had outfitted themselves with a Klingon warship. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Kenasu Predator -- Bridge -- Commander Hoto -- 1414) "Get us the belp out of here!" He slapped the control to open a comm to the Warmaid. "Go to warp damn it!" Behind them the Lancer erupted as a phaser blast cut through it like it was tissue paper. And he didn't relax as the slipstream of warp caused by the doppler effect kicked in. "What is that damned ship doing?" "Its turning commander ... returning to the planet by its course. Should be turn and pursue?" "Are you a belping moron? Hell no! We are staying on course and getting the belp out of here." He relaxed back into his chair just a bit. They still had one more hurdle to clear. The Federation ship on the outskirts of the system. "Just asking. I don't want to die any more than you do." Hoto turned his head to him then took a deep breath. "We thought we had them beat, bringing in a tried and true war vessel but we never figured on them having a belping warship in attendance. I've never heard of a klingon cruiser being taken down with so little effort. What the belp was that thing?" His navigator was already ahead of him as he read from the screen. "Prometheus class. The Feds top of the line warship from like 30 years ago but updated. Its power curve read like the other one, nearly off our chart." "Does it have a name?" "Yeah, USS Hades. It still has its NX designation. They apparently liked it so much they kept it." The very name sent chills down Hoto's spine, it was a fitting name for a ship of war, sending its enemies to an early and catastrophic grave. "Damn it." They had figured they had the edge in this fight. The klingon ship had been their equalizer along with seven marauder ships and more incoming else Hoto wouldn't even have lifted off from the planet or more likely would have done so just to make a run for it. They hadn't counted on three starships and one being such a heavy hitter. And with a cloak to boot! The Kang had never stood a chance. The Hades had de-cloaked and swatted it like it was a bloodfly. Their great equalizer her gone down for the count and their remaining ships were exposed as pretenders. These weren't fighting ships, they were designed to take down soft and unsuspecting prey. Yes the Syndicate's war with the Federation had started and just as abruptly ended. And their fantastic new weapons had failed them. They were papier mache tigers growling helplessly. "Coming within range of the third ship soon. Orders?" "Swing wide around it you idiot! Don't give them any ideas." He was tense as the two ships made a large loop around the Tolliver which scanned them but made no move to intercept. It was only when they were around it and running free of the system in deep space that he relaxed. "Orders?" "We are going home and ditching these useless missiles unless we happen upon a juicy target on the way." Hoto still had substantial savings. Not what he had wanted to accumulate and sticking a bit more back would be welcome but he could not afford to take any chances now, not if he wanted to live to spend it. Retirement was coming sooner than expected. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 15 – The Armoury – Chief of Security Lt Jn Keung Lee 1415) Ensign Lucas McQuire was the Armoury Officer on duty and had been overseeing the inventory of phasers that were in secured lockers throughout the ship. His official inventory list showed that there were 400 stored phasers. However the reality may be different. Only Security officers and the command staff had authorised access to the weapons. Phasers could have ‘been borrowed’ and not been returned. His inventory doesn’t show the working state of the phasers either. If the ship ever gets boarded, it would be mildly embarrassing if the phasers malfunctioned! The hatch slid open and Lt Keung Lee stepped into the armoury. Lucas glanced up and to his mild surprise, saw who it was and leapt to his feet, snapping to attention behind the high counter. "Good afternoon,Sir" "Hello ensign McQuire. Is the range available?" "Uhm, yes, sir. You can use lane 1” "Good," Lee said. "Could you set the range for me - trial competition standard, target gates at twenty-five and forty metres. Could you also issue me with the Barrett M82A1 ‘Light Fifty’ sniper rifle "Not a problem, Sir," replied Lucas. "I'll just be a moment." He selected the computer-controlled range targets on the console from his side of the counter, before moving into one of the strong rooms to retrieve the rifle. A minute later, he returned to the counter and laid rifle on top along. He also placed a set of ear-protectors as a protective device, although the chief hadn't requested for them. He was not surprise at the Chief’s desire for using ancient weapons. The Armoury had a mixture of energy, non energy weapons as well as bladed weapons. "As requested, Sir" "Thank you ensign." Lucas gestured at the rifle.. "I understand the rifle has been modified based on your recommendations?" "You are quite correct" said lee." The Barrett M82A1 'Light Fifty' sniper rifle was probably one of the best known weapons of its time, . He had worked with the ship's armourers and a couple of engineers borrowed from Aly's department, to develop a Gauss-propelled version of the classic propellant-based weapon. “ Instead of standard explosive-propellant bullets, this improved variant used a series of supercharged Gauss magnets to propel a projectile down the barrel toward a target. It required an enormous amount of energy. It generated very little sound, even less heat and could achieve a muzzle velocity far in excess of the old-fashioned firearm rounds. The muzzle velocity of the average rifle might be 400 metres per second; according to early field trials, Keung's custom-modified Gauss rifles could propel a solid slug of ferrous-tritanium metal at something around 3000 metres per second. With a click of a switch, the rifle could be transformed into a phaser rifle.” It occurred to Lee, that the ensign who only recently joined the Armoury team on a rotating basis had not been aware of the weapon which had been redeveloped. *I’m impressed’ said the ensign who since taking on this job felt he was constantly on a learning curve. “You have to try it out sometime” said Lee. “This rifle packs quite a punch. If you listen to the hum of the rifle and knew your own strength, it becomes almost instinctive to compensate and achieve accuracy. It is a very powerful sensation. Mind you, placed in the hands of an inexperienced user, this weapons can be lethal not to themselves but to colleagues around them," explained Keung deliberately. He was about to leave for the firing range when ensign Lucas said “I got an idea to increase the shooting skills of the security officers.” “Oh?” said Lee “What is your idea?” "We could have a shipwide marksmanship competition - not just for the security team, but for any interested crewmembers - in a variety of weapon classes, of course. Energy and non-energy weapons." "A marksmanship competition, you say?" Lee repeated, turning the idea over in his head. It was a double-edged sword of sorts: it would be the best showcase for the talents of his department... unless someone else showed them up. . "We could make it an annual event. I believe it would draw a lot of interest from the crew, and a trophy would be awarded to the winners." Lee nodded. That would be interesting “Ensign. That is a excellent suggestion, perhaps you could send me a proposal for this competition, I will…..” Lee’s combadge buzz. It was from Lieutenant Dieter Gregory "Gregory to Chief Lee. We have been given permission by the Admiral to begin boarding the Klingon vessel. It is disabled and drifting with minimal power. I am sending the schematics and overlay of lifesigns to you now. Secure the ship and the crew." “Acknowledge.” Replied Lee who suddenly perked up in excitement at the thought of putting a boarding team together. “I let you know when we are ready to go.” He turned to ensign Lucas. “Look like writing your proposal is to be put on hold for the moment. Start preparing issuing out weapons including the Barrett M82A1 rilles. They will be issued to the snipers on the team. Issue Phasers type 1 as well as phaser carbines” (reply none) (posted by John) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 14 - Security - COS Lt(jg) Keung Lee, PO3 Jared Boyles, Hercules Dever, Steve Hammons, P'Rah and Cadet Ksensia - 1415) Devers listened to the Chief and glanced at the members of his team - Boyles, Collier and Ekoice. Seemed the Chief was keeping to separating Boyles and Hammons, but knowing the kind of trouble they could get into, he didn’t blame the Chief. Grabbing a PADD, he looked over the schematics of the K’t’inga battle cruiser. It really would help planning the infil, especially with the sensor reports that Operations was uploading to the PADD. A simultaneous strike at the engine room and the bridge was the most expedient manner of controlling the ship. Now if they would beam over gas grenades to these locations to help disable the crew stationed there, that might make securing the ship easier, and allow them to then focus on mop up. Cadet Ksensia Lin came into the room at a run. The half bajoran/trill was rather pretty looking, with long red hair that was tightly braided, then tucked into a low bun. Her battle uniform was precise and she looked rather pleased, yet fierce. This was her first real away mission and she was ready to have some fun. She had missed out on the last away mission because she had blown off doing all of her coursework and found out the hard way that those stupid simulations mattered. She had applied herself and was available for this mission. She took the phaser rifle and then the hand phaser that was handed to her. She wore her personal blades on her belt, the Damascus folded steel daggers in their supple real leather sheaths. She was looking forward to this. “Sir? Cadet Ksensia. Which team am I on?” Hammons walked in with his game face on. The knife Alaya had given him hung to his left and his sidearm on his right. He picked up a phaser rifle and checked its charge as he hefted it. "Another day, another boarding action. At least a Klingon ship should fill the bill as a pirate vessel. There's no telling what kind of savages we might find over there." Ensign Andy Taylor was behind Hammons in line to pick up his rifle. “I would expect that you'd have a lot in common with savages, Mr. Hammons.” He smiled as he thought it funny to call the older Hammons Mister. Chief Lee who had decided against everyone wearing the tactical Battle suits mainly they were not really designed to operate in a closed environment especially in a ship. They were cumbersome and got in the way. Also he had discovered that apart from the fact that they ate up a lot of energy, the user tended to depend on the tech rather than their own personal skills and talents. There was an air of anticipation in the room as the team members in the room were actually looking forward to the boarding action. Lee studied his PADD to work out the allocation of the teams and their mission. Cadet Ksensia had eagerly asked which team she was on. Lee wondered how she would cope on her first away mission. He would brief the team. He called out to Lt Trei who was about to depart to the Armoury to be issued with a weapon to wait. “Our mission is essentially to board and secure vital areas. We need to secure engineering, cargo bays and take the bridge to recover the computer and navigation systems on the ship. Hopefully, they might provide useful information about their activities, weapons ports of call, buyers and so on. The schematics shows there are volumes of space on the map which are not detailed. There could be secret compartments to hide contraband.” explained Lee. “Alright these are the teams with their call signs. Alpha - Team leader Devers with Boyles, Collier and Ekoice. Your task is to secure the Cargo bays and the immediate surrounding decks. Brave - Team leader myself with P’Rah, Taylor, and Mali will be securing engineering. Charlie- Team leader Hammons, Ksensia, Koksv, and Shosi. Lee glanced at Shosi who was Andorian and hoped that Koksv, a Klingon, should work well together. At least Lee was confident that Hammons was capable enough to handle those two particular species. “Your role is to secure the bridge. Lieutenant Trei will be joining your team. Her job will be to download the computer data on the bridge. So she must be protected at all costs!”. Backup team Delta will be led by Assistant chief of Security, Carol Linnis. Her team will consist of Ekoice, Lannox, Jucowe. You probably won’t be needed but I want to cover all contingencies. I have no data as to what the opposition will be like. Scan your surroundings and identify cover points, possible ambush points and escape routes. Always stay within your teams, stay within your designated areas, work together, look after each other.” "Yes sir but as Lieutenant Trei is a superior officer I assume she will have command unless and until my expertise is needed so I'll defer to her." Koksv asked “What about the rules of engagement?” “You are authorized to use all necessary means at your disposal to secure the ship” said Lee after a moment pause. “I suggest now that all teams get together to discuss and plan your strategy. If you need to go to the armoury to be issued with any other weapon then go ahead.” Shosi was unsurprised by the Klingon’s question. Koksv should be in his element on a Klingon vessel given the clearance to use “all means at his disposal.” She said under her breath, “I hope we have enough body bags.” She was not a fan of the Klingon desire to fight at the drop of a hat, but did have an appreciation for some of the Klingon battle strategies. She wouldn’t need any further weapon assistance from the armoury, since they did not carry weapons that surpassed her own personal items. Lee raised his right fist in the air and shouted “Oorah” Devers looked at Boyles and rolled his eyes. ~what are we the marines?~ he thought uncharitably P’Rah patiently stood there and listened. He was ready with a side arm and a phaser rifle. He closed his eyes to all the pep talk that was going around. He had one mission and only one mission. Secure engineering with the team. He could do without the comradery. He was not the G.I. Joe type. He was the get in and don’t die type. Lee thought about the newbies on the teams. Their first action. All the teams were now in discussion with each other. For some strange reason which Lee couldn’t work out, Charlie 1 was having their briefing outside the Security Centre in the passageway. Alpha 1 sat near the Security Monitoring Centre. In the meantime, Lee took his team into his office for his briefing and showed the schematics of the engineering area to Anju Mali, a former Starfleet engineer before she changed careers. She would have the technical knowhow to secure the consoles of that department. Lee knew next to nothing about the engineering side of any ship. He was fortunate enough when he was at the Academy that he was exempt from such classes because of the time he came from. After all, youngsters in this age already knew the practicalities of warp drive technology!! “What is the possibility of switching off the gravity and life support systems in engineering or are they controlled from the bridge?” asked Lee to Mali Anju turned from looking at schematics and she said “it can be done from engineering. If the teams are overwhelmed by opposition then I can switch off the gravity. I mean we are trained to fight and move in non gravity environments. As for life support, we can cut off all the systems but that won’t do anyone any good. We’re not wearing environmental suits.” Lee nodded and glanced at P’Rah and Taylor. “It is vital that we don’t destroy the engineering consoles and to ensure that Anju can be provided with cover so she can do her job. Once we secure engineering, perhaps we can concentrate on nearby passageways. We don’t want any pirates trying to re-take engineering.” Taylor frowned and shrugged. Being an explosives expert didn’t really come in handy if you’re not planning on blowing things up. However if they ran into booby traps he’d be the man for the job. “Passage ways, check,” he repeated. “Blowing things up, uncheck.” He looked over at P’Rah and said, “He’s no fun anymore.” “No worries, I have a soft touch and a long tail.” P’Rah commented. “I can whip it against the pirates as much as the next guy.” He knew how to work within his parameters. Taylor laughed, “I’m sure that tail has a lot of uses. Makes me want one.” Devers gathered alpha team members and retreated to a corner to discuss strategy and loadout. "Expect choke points and crossfire. Clean out knots of enemies by hitting them with stun grenades first and watch your six. We don't have enough people to properly consolidate territory and there are over a hundred life signs aboard the cruiser. We hit and move fast. Don't get bogged down or you'll get cut off. Once we reach our objectives we can cut off portions of the enemy forces using force fields through main control and isolate them for cleanup." Hammons recited the list from memory. "Standard blitzkrieg tactics, hard, fast and clean. If you get cut off transport out or you'll get mown down by reinforcements." "Oh, one other thing." Steven looked around the group. "They aren't going to be looking to stun, kill when you have to. These guys are out for blood and have been from the beginning. Better to make them dead than to get made dead." Shosi nodded, it was sound military advice. “An old Andorian proverb, the only way to make sure your enemy won’t come back is to make sure they can’t come back.” Devers looked at the cadet, “Cadet Ksensia Lin, report to the alpha team on the bounce. Crewwoman Ekoice, head over to Delta with PO Lannis.” The mixed species cadet nodded and headed over to the Alpha team. She was so excited and even though it was just the cargo bays, that was as important as other areas on the ship, or so she kept telling herself. Skill wise, she was a decent marksman and a better sniper. She would need to set up someplace high to take out the enemy targets. She reported to Devers, “Sir? I’m Cadet Ksensia.” She was an interesting mix with the bajoran nose and trill spots. “Lt. Lee assigned me to your team, Sir.” ~To keep me safe~. She thought resentfully but it did make some sense. Devers looked over the cadet. He still disliked the idea of assigning cadets to boarding operations. “Cadet, I am not your drill instructor or training officer. Can the Sir, I work for a living,” he said in the fine tradition of NCOs around the galaxy. “What are your hand-to-hand combat ratings? She blinked in confusion but nodded. “Passable. I’m a better sniper so that was my focus. Get me up high and I’ll take out whatever you want dead. I’ve also got some medic training. I wanted to be a Starfleet marine when I grew up. And then there was no marine force recruiting.” Lee called the teams to attention. “I just want to say before you continue with your team briefings. If it is at all possible, do not exhaust your phaser levels or conserve projectiles like bullets. Select your targets and do not fire indiscriminately. As for grenades..no frag grenades. It’s too risky. You are likely to blow a bulkhead and being sucked out into space is not a nice thing! Use stun and flashbangs. It is likely that the ship’s lighting could be damaged so vision will be limited. So the rule is if you recognize anyone in the middle of a firefight from the ship, you need to quickly identify yourself and shout out ‘friendlies!”. I personally want to avoid being the target of friendly fire. The other thing is..again if possible. Capture alive anyone who looks like they have some sort of authority. Keep communications to a minimum..no unnecessary chatter. You’re not on the playground!. Use hand signals where possible. This is really for the benefit of the newbies among you but it is a good reminder for the rest of us. Alright get back to your briefings. Everyone should have a clear idea of what their roles are and to gel together as a team. I want no loose cannons.” (Reply - None) Posted by: Al - Taylor and Shosi Charles - Hammons, Boyle John - Lee Kris - P'Rah Mel - Ksensia Tim - Devers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Transporter 1 - SPA LT JG Ariel Trei - 14.20) She went to the armory as ordered and secured two hand phasers. She was much better hand to hand as taught by her father Detron Trei. This being said, she secured a batt'laff to her back if the need arises. This will be her first time leading an away team even though as a consultant role so she felt the apprehension involved with that. She checked that at the door when entering the transporter room 1. She relayed her initial orders as consultant of the team before beaming to the Klingon vessel bridge. "OK. I have been designated Charlie team leader as a consultant . We are to beam over to the bridge and secure the bridge. We are to also decrypt the data to find out what we can. I will need an expert in that to help me. The supervisory position occupied by a security officer was not permanent but was part of a three-month rotating duty. Calls would come through to staff and they would assign the duty security detail to answer that call. They also dealt with the day to day routine administrative activities associated with security and the armoury. Starfleet security and intelligence routine bulletins were often re-routed to the Security Office. Lee felt that he didn’t have the time to read everything most of it was either trivial or involved news that didn’t relate to the Sentinel. In any case, only items that were flagged for ‘Security Chief’s eyes’ only drew Lee’s attention. Lee was studying the schematics of the pirate ship, the battle cruiser Kang on a workstation along with Assistant Chief of Security PO2 Carol Linnis. Carol was not part of the initial boarding team but she would have a standby team as back up. The three-dimensional rendition of the internal passageways and cabins of the wanted ship appeared alongside the tactical display. “It’s doesn’t appear to be a large vessel.” Said Carol looking at the schematics. “So it would be relatively straightforward to board and secure. But there were also volumes of space on the map which were not detailed: these could be secret compartments to hide contraband.” “Three teams. Four in each team each with a sniper” thought Lee. “. We need to secure their cargo bays and take the bridge to recover the computer and navigation systems on the ship. Hopefully, they might provide useful information about their activities, ports of call, buyers and so on.” “Sounds like we need someone who's fairly expert with breaking into encrypted data systems." She said it matter-of-factly Lee glanced up to see Lieutenant JG Ariel Trei appeared in the Security office. Just the person. "Reporting as ordered sir. My reason for wanting to be on the boarding team is a matter of honor. I am aware that there are no Klingons aboard the vessel, but thievery and piracy are actions that those who do this have no honor. To confront these men will be an act of honor especially using a Klingon vessel to do it." Said the Lieutenant. Matter of honour! Thought Lee. What is about Klingons even half Klingons who keep going on about honour! Fighting is not an honour. “Lieutenant” said Lee “It is not an act of honour I am looking for. I want to use those analytical skills of yours to break into their computer encrypted data systems. Your fighting skills are better upto scratch. Her nose had been repaired but there was still faint bruising around her face that would remain there for the next few days. Sienna had a lot of time to think about what had occurred and she was worried about using Luma’s abilities to microjump during the battle. She had ordered it, and paid a price for Luma’s acquiescence. She had been forced wide open and she had no shielding. It was why she had escaped to the ready room. The Captain and T’Mur were back from the planet, the Admiral had beamed over and they all needed to have a talk. Sienna had taken a moment to look over the casualty list. Several wounded, some serious. She felt the collective angst and pain of the ship and closed her eyes, trying to find the mental discipline to get her shields back up. Luckily the Captain and his father the Admiral were not going to be emotional in her presence. Sienna turned as the door opened. “Is T’Mur back on board safely?” She knew the answer, but needed to hear the words. The Admiral entered first and turned aside to look over the sideboard as Sekal stepped into the room. He passed Saleke as he went to the replicator and took out 3 glasses of water, he handed one to his father then took his seat behind the desk. "The beginning of this encounter did not go as planned." He stated flatly as he placed the third glass of water on the desk and drank from his own. "Being taken from the ship by the Controller was unanticipated. Lieutenant T'Mur will be here shortly." “Let us wait for Lt. T’Mur to arrive.” Sienna took a deep breath, continuing to sip her glass of water. “Before we talk about the battle. Thank you Sir for having your force here. This would have ended badly without the extra firepower, even with Luma.” Sienna was under no illusions about that. Saleke turned from studying the dark matter phaser which he first replaced on its stand. "When we noted the gravimetric distortion caused by a cloaked entry into the system the decision was clear. Having such a force enter into the battle tipped the odds to 235 to 1 against your success. It was fortuitous that it was spotted. The Hades was better equipped to deal with the threat and balance the odds." Sekal spoke up from the chair. "Our battles seem to be taking place when I am not available. I will make a more concerted effort in the future to be on hand for them." “I would appreciate it! You are the one who has studied under one of the greatest tacticians of our time - and I would certainly appreciate lessons! While I am pleased no one on the Illuminar died, this time, several people were still injured, and we do not have a large crew complement. Structural damage… not as much as it could have been. What worries me though is that one of the torpedo tubes misfired in the battle, and it was sabotage according to the report Ensign Bohb got to me earlier. He left engineering personally to go deal with it.” Sienna looked worried. "The lessons were simple." The Admiral shrugged. "Know your strengths and your enemy's weakness and exploit both to your advantage." He looked at Sienna. "Sabotage is illogical in this instance as the destruction of the ship would have logically brought about the death of all aboard. Was there the possibility of error in the setting of the torpedo tube?" “No Sir, it was sabotage. A key isolinear chip in the firing system was flipped. It would have shown up on diagnostics if it had been changed before the start of the battle.” Sienna longed for T’Mur to arrive, to just be with her bondmate. “I believe they were not interested in the destruction of the ship at first, but instead in our capture. When the battle started going badly for our adversaries was when they turned towards a mutually assured destruction. It was closer than I would have liked, and I probably did not need to micro jump a whole ten seconds, but I erred on the side of caution.” The look on Sienna’s face telegraphed clearly that she expected to be reprimanded for showing one of Luma’s lesser known abilities. It was Sekal's turn to shrug. "You brought my ship through a trying encounter." He turned to Saleke. "What of the ships that were inbound to the system and how did the Tolliver fare?" The Admiral moved to the couch and sat down. "Their arrival was interrupted. It appears they had not been expecting multiple starships and when challenged they fled. The Tolliver escaped with only superficial structural damage. Two ships were destroyed and the others escaped. The Tolliver is now standing by at the edge of the solar system to discourage any further arrivals." Sienna looked between the two and for a brief moment wished that she had the education that Sekal had. She envied him. “I have questions about Luma that will need answering, when we have time. And I had a question. What will happen to the klingon ship that was captured? Specifically it’s cloak? Could it be adapted to the Illuminar?” Saleke looked to his son to answer that question. "It would be a relatively simple refit. Klingon cloaking systems have been used on Federation starships before. They are essentially of Romulan design and the Enterprise adapted one for use rather quickly. I would like to have some time to study it first however. If I add anything to the mechanisms aboard this ship I would plan on it being a permanent addition and some alterations might be necessary." Saleke raised the glass of water to his lips for a sip then lowered it. "Bringing it back to base with the cloak included would be unnecessary. StarFleet is well aware of the technology and there is no ship currently being planned that requires one. Perhaps once we begin focusing on ships with stealth technology but that will be long term. In the interim it could be adapted here and its specifications transmitted to command for later inclusion." “Thank you Sir! That is excellent news.” Sienna’s voice trailed off and she turned towards the door, sensing T’Mur close. She had not chosen a seat, preferring to stand so she moved closer to the door after setting her glass of water down on the table. She would not be overly emotional, and she would not embarrass T’Mur in front of the Admiral. The door opened and T’Mur stepped into the room. She had stopped at the tactical station to download the information from the battle on her own PADD for later analysis. She looked around the room and nodded to Sekal. She then greeted the admiral. “Admiral Saleke,” she said with a nod, “I am certain that we have already shown our gratitude for your assistance but I will add my own. You have my thanks.” Saleke quirked an eyebrow at her. "Your thanks are unnecessary. My ship was available and the Klingon ship a danger." “Then we are fortuitous of your availability,” she acknowledged the correction. Then she looked at Sienna. The sight of the bruising of her face around her nose create a momentary desire to hold her mate and kiss the injured nose. It was not a logical action or response, so she held herself in check. “Commander,” she said flatly, “you seem relatively unharmed for the most part. How is your nose?” Sienna crossed the few steps to stand in front of her mate and gently brushed her fingertips against T’Mur’s for a moment, “The bruising will fade, Dr. Solice repaired the damage when I literally fell on my face right in front of the view screen. I was not expecting Luma needing to bond to me in order to fulfill the order, but I understand why it happened. In order for her to move around time, she needs some reference, and that has to be her bondmate.” There were many things that they all needed to discuss. “Yes, well, we can discuss that later,” T’Mur replied. Sienna visibly winced, worried about that discussion. ::You are angry with me?:: She asked, worry permeating her tone. It was obvious that she had no telepathic shielding currently. T’Mur could feel all of Sienna’s emotions and read all of her surface thoughts. It was … distracting. She found herself reinforcing her own telepathic shielding to maintain her focus. It was as almost as though they were mating, but there was none of the love or intention, only the intensity. ::Not angry. Concerned. You are hurt from a maneuver I did not even know existed. And I do not understand what occurred. I want to help you.:: She began to weave her mind through Sienna’s to provide some control and shield her from the telepathic influences of the other telepaths on the ship, including the two in front of them. She was able to cut off the continuous input of random thoughts and feelings running through her mind. The pure relief that sprang from T’Mur helping her was enough to bring tears to Sienna’s eyes. Too much had happened and her brain felt sore. ::Thank you. We need to all talk about what Luma did as well. Though they do not see why that choice was the absolute last choice.:: ::I see the choice. I just do not understand what occurred. And I do need to know what Luma did and its ramifications. But we will have to one later.:: "As the ship is relatively undamaged it would seem the preparations made against the missiles were effective." Sekal noted. "They appear to be leaning heavily on that weapon system despite its flaws." “Indeed,” T’Mur said, “I briefly looked at the tactical reports and it appears that the over dependence on their weapons technology, which eventually failed them, was the main cause of their failure. They were unable to adapt their weapons to our defenses.” "Which is its greatest weakness." Sekal noted. "The weapon system is only effective with surprise. Once alerted an enemy is easily able to defeat it. I do not foresee a use of it by StarFleet in the future." "Agreed." The Admiral replied. "It is what is generally known as a terror weapon that once revealed loses its potency. Phasers and torpedoes are more effective in reducing an enemy's defenses. The Fleet has already been apprised of it and in any future encounters the pirates will find themselves fatally exposed by the flaw. But that does not lessen the necessity of shutting down the smuggling operation." T’Mur nodded, “Just because we have found a solution to these weapons does not render them useless. They are still destructive, and even we required assistance. Not every world or fleet has a Hades to back them up, or an Admiral Saleke. Logic would dictate the removal of the threat. And it appears that this Controller is willing to support our campaign.” “I am glad to hear that.” Sienna spoke a few moments later once she had found her composure. “We could not figure out why she took our full vulcans and not the mixed breed vulcans as well. Lt. Gregory believed that it had something to do with the Enterprise mission where Admiral Kirk and Captain Spock negotiated the original encounter with the planet. I am pleased that you three were returned unharmed.” Sienna kept her fingers touching T’Mur, needing that validation that her mate was here and the past was just that, the past. “I believe we have our new friends Doctors Penn and Teller to thank for that,” T’Mur replied. “I met them earlier. I did not understand anything that they said, and emotionally I was too raw to separate what I was sensing out.” Sienna looked at the two men, “You were both bond-mates to Luma. I need advice on separating this bonding with Luma from the recent bonding to T’Mur. They are touching and nothing is very private. I also did not believe that I was a good choice for a bondmate since I am only half Betazoid. When Lt. Jordaan returns, will this bond swing back to her? Also, why was a bonding needed for the microjump? If Luma’s bondmate is killed, would it prevent her from using that trick to protect us?” Sienna’s mind was rather brilliant, but she was a xeno-biologist. Saleke looked over at her from his seat on the couch. "All that is needed is to have Luma withdraw as this was due to simple expediency. It is the same issue I would assume with any being that has no anchor in linear time, in their consciousness the past, present and future are nearly inseparable. In order to make such a fine jump she requires to be 'in the moment' so to speak. The bond between Luma and a bondmate is voluntary, if forced it will most likely fade quickly on its own. She can not expect you to maintain it." T’Mur was relieved to hear those words. She was not certain how it would be to have a three way bonding with the Lenai and Sienna, and if she were to be truly honest, she was not ready to share Sienna just yet. She let that thought slip through their connection. “Sir,” she said, “if I may. What exactly happened? Is Luma capable of moving through time? I had no idea she had that capacity. How is it possible and what are the limits?” An eyebrow lifted at the question. "The limit is set by the mind bondmate though I would assume she may not jump farther than the boundary of her own existence." Now it was T’Mur’s turn to raise an eyebrow, “Indeed, that is a substantial time frame for Luma.” Sienna’s breath caught and she was glad that she had not been sipping her water when that pronouncement was made. She would have been choking if she had been. “So without a bondmate, Luma is not anchored to the here and now? And we let Lt. Jordaan off the ship?” Sienna tried to make that sense work in her head. "We cannot enslave someone to the ship at all times." Sekal spoke from behind the desk. "Commander Peters and herself had personal business matters to attend to. While she is gone I can fill the role needed." “That leads to the other question Commander Verin asked,” T’Mur said. “What do we do for Luma if something unforeseen happens to Ms. Jordaan?” Sienna waved her hand to emphasize this point, “Which has not worked very well in the last two weeks. Luma had a panic attack when you were injured and this time… This time if I had known that it was needed, I would have voluntarily initiated it, not have it forced due to necessity. This is not something that I ever want to experience again. It does nothing for my command presence to black out on the bridge. Most of the crew will not know why.” Sienna realized she was grumpy about that. "It would be best to find an alternate." Saleke nodded in agreement. "For when I am unavailable and who might step up to take over the bond. Luma can be brought through the traumatic experience if necessary when losing a bondmate and it has happened numerous times in the past. The difference is there was always another available to step in when she was with the Illuminari." “Then we should recruit someone.” Sienna replied. “Quickly, especially if we are going to be going into battle situations.” A pause. “What else can she do? And what do we tell the crew? Everyone felt when she jumped.” "That is the extent of her abilities to my knowledge." The Admiral nodded agreement once again. "You have seen her use psychic attacks but that is not something I wish to make use of unless it is absolutely necessary." “No. I do not want her using psychic attacks. She does not deal well with death. Do we know if the pirates got a message out about that? We do not want the ship to become hunted due to some ‘new technology’.” Sienna found her fingers tightening around T’Mur’s, and tried to loosen her grip so she was not clinging. T’Mur hung onto Sienna’s fingers almost instinctively. She sent a wave of contentment through their bond, although she was a little concerned about the admiral and captain. Still, they were both bonded and she decided that they would understand. “From what I can tell,” she said, indicating to the reports on her PADD, “there was no time to inform others what was seen from the Kang. I cannot be certain what was seen by this pirate, Roberts and his ship. But as they do not have a frame of reference I seriously doubt that they would make any connection between the Illuminar and a “secret weapon”. I conclude that it is unlikely that we will become such a target.” “Admiral, what will the Hades crew think of the anomaly?” Sienna asked curiously. Luma was listening through her bond with Sienna. Saleke shrugged. "Some were querulous about the event but knowledge of it is unnecessary. Luma will eventually become known in the fleet, it is illogical to expect otherwise but it is not the time." He looked toward Sekal. "Will the Controller be giving you assistance with the facility?" "Unknown." The Captain said. "We are planning on invading it ourselves. If the Controller decides to render assistance it will be welcomed but monitored." "Logical." The Admiral stated. "I will be mediating for trade and supplies for the inhabitants if there is no interference." "Understood." Saleke stood to his feet. "Is there anything else?" “Not from me. I need to go and rest, however. The forced bonding with Luma has left me raw. I would also like permission to speak with one of the counselors about this. If the Captain does not mind, I would prefer Counselor Reea?” Sekal lifted an eyebrow. "I do not believe you will have any issue in dealing with Counselor Reea, she appears to be most interested in interacting with the command crew. We have already had a discussion." “Then with your blessing I will make an appointment to speak with her.” "You do not need my permission, Commander but you have it." He looked to T'Mur. "Is there anything else you would like to discuss, Lieutenant?" T’Mur thought for a moment. “What of the remaining … pirate ships? As I understand it, this … Dread Pirate Roberts is still unaccounted for.” "If found he will be taken into custody. The destruction of one of the ships by the Hades put the others to flight and there is no evidence that a transport took place from the Klingon ship. He might be hiding aboard so I would suggest the Admiral have it searched thoroughly before taking it under tow." Sekal looked at Saleke who gave a crisp nod of his head. "That search is already underway. If he escaped in a life pod he will either have run to the planet in order to regroup with those there or will be discovered by the Tolliver attempting to leave the system. He is netted and will be unable to escape." “Sir,” T’Mur added, “What will be the disposition of the Kang?” "The Tolliver will be remaining behind to guard your flank. I will be leaving with the Kang under tow once the search and inventory is completed. What will be done with it has not been decided yet." Admiral Saleke set the glass down and turned to leave. “Do you require any assistance with creating an inventory log?” T’Mur asked. The Admiral stopped and turned to regard her. "If your commanding officer can spare you I would not decline such an offer." T’Mur turned to Sekal, “Captain, with your permission I would request some time to tend to Commander Verin, then I would ask permission to aid the admiral with the Kang.” Sekal gave her a momentary look. "Permission granted on both counts." Saleke nodded. "Report to my second officer on the Kang when available." He then strode from the Ready Room. “Aye, sir,” T’Mur replied. “Come Commander, let me tend to your injuries better.” “Good.” Sienna spoke, setting her glass back in the replicator, “If I am needed, I will be in my quarters.” She knew that she was in no state to serve her duty shift this day. They left the captain’s ready room together, Sienna gripping onto T’Mur’s hand, in an attempt to be clandestine about it. She truly believed that Saleke could do no wrong, and knew most everything. He was after all a ‘Father’. Had he been human he would no doubt have sighed. ::Luma it is quite obvious judging from your conversation that Lieutenant Lee misunderstood your inference. There is something you should know about the rest of the beings aboard this ship.:: Luma listened, ::What should Luma know? This was MUCH easier when Luma’s Vex was present. "Then you remember that he once asked you if on his order you would destroy the Mystique and was quite emphatic on that point. A point that you argued with him at some length on as I recall." He had changed from mental speech back to verbal. "And at that time we had only theories on how we would remove you from the ship." She switched to verbal, =^= Yes, but we fixed that. And the Remae is a Leader among the small Starfleet ones. The Illuminar was designed to handle the structural stresses with microjumps in a way the Mystique was not. =^= She grumbled. =^= Luma would rather jump the small ones to a safe time and place. Luma understands that there might be a time where this is not safe, so that is why we decided the Trei and the Montero would flee with Luma if necessary. It would cause Luma’s heart to break to see the beloved small ones pass into entropy. =^= The Vulcan cupped his hands on the desktop. "It is true that the Commodore is in command as am I yet the question has not changed from that time. The Commodore then did not understand just as Lieutenant Lee does not understand now and your conversation was inconclusive and not understood. To the mind of one who does not know you the question is cut and dried. Only one such as myself may see the nuances." He loosened his hands and settled back into the chair. "Should the necessity ever arise you would be removed from the ship, I will not sacrifice you unnecessarily and I will set the ship to self destruct. That is part of his misunderstanding. Before it came to that point we would consider other possibilities. But as Admiral at the time Remae brought up a commanding officer must always consider the possibility and to bring it up is not wrong. In the same way the head of my security department must know what might happen should the occasion arise. The intimation of traitorous conduct was made based on incomplete information. You must understand that the crew is reaching out in an attempt to familiarize themselves with you and in doing so they will make mistakes. That we have kept your existence secret makes it an unfortunate yet logical outcome." =^= Luma’s Sekal would prefer if Luma did not punish that Lee for his rudeness? Luma is not sure that liking that Lee is required to work with that Lee. =^= Luma had hierarchies to her people. Our, My, the and finally That for those few that she did not like. =^= Luma will consider what her Sekal has said. Perhaps it would help if the Trei was familiarized with the process. It would be best if that Lee was included in the exercise? Luma’s Bohb believes there might be a prototype to handle the harmonic variances that caused the cracking of the Aneulrian Crystal?=^= The affection in Bohb’s name was evident. "What you consider rudeness at this time Luma is a lack of understanding and to punish someone for a misunderstanding will eventually lead you not to just punishing but alienating the entire crew. This is the logical end point of your question and I can not run a ship efficiently in which you have made enemies of the majority of those aboard. I will not demand you be friends with all but you must be able to have a working relationship with them. If Ensign Bohb is able to resolve the issues with the crystal we are using to move you I find that to be gratifying. The duties of command make it impossible to dedicate the time for research it would take me to find such answers." =^= Does Luma’s Sekal regret not being able to do research? Luma could always jump the ship backwards for a few hours to give Our Sekal more time in the day? =^= Luma was trying to be helpful with the suggestion. =^= Most of the crew do not realize what happened. =^= "No. There is a price to be paid for meddling with the timeline. You above all are aware of this." =^= Luma knows the Starfleets rules, yes.=^= The tone said she didn’t think they were all that important. =^= Will Luma’s Vex be returning soon? =^= The plaintive desire was there. After a moment, Luma refocused her attention on Sekal. =^= The microjump was -fun- =^= She emphasized. "I should have the answer soon." He replied simply. =^= Our Sienna is not an ideal bondmate. If Sienna’s T’Mur had been available, the T’Mur would have been a better choice. The Alaya was occupied. The Celiste and The Sky are not good choices, either. Those two are too much like their Mother. =^= Luma still felt badly about damaging Vanyssa Winters’ telepathic abilities. "If Lieutenant Jordaan is unavailable we will find another long term bondmate. You have my word." =^= Will there be more battles in the near future? Luma does not like battles. Luma likes it much better when we help more small ones like with the generational ship. Luma would like to return to them. Is the Riven there? =^= Luma’s voice made it very clear that Riven was a perfectly acceptable bondmate prospect. "Riven is currently on Betazed I believe and I cannot promise there will be no more battles but I intend to be available should they occur." =^= Can the skin go to Betazoid then? =^= Luma asked hopefully. She was done with the important business and the conversation was winding down. "Unknown. We will know more if this mission is concluded successfully." A pause, then adorably Luma tried out the phrase she had heard others use, =^= Luma may be dismissed, our Sekal? =^= She was tickled by getting her usage of the phrase correct. He nodded. "Dismissed." Now that the conversation was concluded he had other things to get to. Work it seemed had piled up during his short absence. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles and Melinda) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO- Captain Sekal - 1535) The conversation with Luma had been over for 3.4 minutes when he got the call that the cloaking device from the Klingon ship was enroute to the Illuminar. Knowing it was best to give the engineering crew warning of what was coming and with business to take care of otherwise he initiated a comm. "Ensign Matrix to the Ready Room please." (Reply: Matrix) It would be several minutes before the engineer arrived so he got up from the chair and walked around. The day had unfolded in some ways as expected but completely without warning in others. The Security boarding parties had been ordered to relax after returning to the ship while the database from the scans was built up to give them a workable blueprint of the facility to operate from. Going blind into an encounter was to be discouraged as he had no intention of losing crewman unnecessarily. Picard had been lost during the boarding of the freighter and such casualties sometimes happened but when possible he wanted every crewman to return to the ship hale and healthy. He was still on his feet when the chime sounded. "Come." (Reply: Matrix) Sekal returned to his seat. "Please sit down Ensign, we some some matters to discuss." (Reply: Matrix) "You have no doubt heard that the cloaking device from the Klingon ship is coming to the Illuminar via shuttle. I do not want the device installed immediately. I need you and the engineering team to go over it thoroughly and give me a detailed cross section scan of every millimeter including composition and structural support, circuitry and power requirements. I want to know exactly what we are working with when it is time to be installed." (Reply: Matrix) "There is another matter." The Vulcan steepled his fingers. "I am logging you as assistant to the Chief Engineering Officer of which we have none as yet. The promotion entails added responsibilities which I believe you are capable of handling efficiently." He brought up the monitor and holographic interface and used it to officially log the promotion then fixed the human with a look. "The new duty log has been added to your file and you will be able to access it immediately." (Reply: Matrix) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Ready Room – Chief of Security Lt (jn) Keung Lee- 1545) Chief Lee stood outside Captain Sekel’s Ready Room. After his confrontation with the entity called Luma, he had some concerns..not least trying to understand the way she spoke in the third person but her attitude of treating the Illuminar as her own..almost a god complex. He wanted to clarify the position with the Captain as to Luma’s position on the ship. The Captain agreed to met with Lee to discuss the confrontation that Lee had with Luma. He pressed the buzzer on the entry panel. (reply Sekel) Lee entered the Ready Room to see the Captain standing by the view port by his desk. Lee stood to attention infront of the Captain’s desk. “Thank you for seeing me, Sir. As you probably heard by now, the entity known as Luma and myself had a confrontation about her role.” (reply) “First of all, I want to apologise to Luma for offending her.” Said Lee thinking that Luma could hear! “It was not my intention to do that.” (reply) “I do have some concerns with regarding Luma’s involvement on this ship. Correct me if I am wrong but is Luma persona linked in with the ship’s systems and who is she accountable to in the chain of command. Would she do this on her own authority or act on the orders of a command officer?. You see what I am worried about and what comes to mind is that Luma will make her own decisions without consulting someone…a ‘loose cannon’ “ said Lee. Then for good measure. “A loose cannon is an Earth expression meaning an unpredictable or uncontrolled being who is liable to cause unintentional damage.” A number of thoughts went through Lee’s mind to references of typical loose cannons reference in old movies such as the military man in Dr Strangelove and ,HAL in 2001 Space Odyssey “You see. I am concerned that if she fell into enemy hands, she could be radicalised or turned against Starfleet interests. There has to be some control over her. Dare I go to say there maybe similarities to a Q ” Maybe she is a Q. Lee felt goosebumps at the mere thought that Luma could be a Q. So he was going to be having the other side of the conversation he had already had with the Lenai. When the chime sounded he shrugged his shoulders and turned from the viewport. "Come." Lieutenant Lee walked in and stood to attention. "At ease Lieutenant." “Thank you for seeing me, Sir. As you probably heard by now, the entity known as Luma and myself had a confrontation about her role.” Sekal nodded and gestured to a chair. "Have a seat Lieutenant. Luma has already come to me about the incident as you correctly surmised. She gave me access to the entire conversation and I have concluded that there was a misunderstanding between the two of you." “First of all, I want to apologise to Luma for offending her. It was not my intention to do that.” The Lieutenant looked about when he said that appearing to expect the lenai to hear his apology however Luma routinely avoided the Ready Room unless called so the Vulcan placed his hand on the wall in order to contact her telepathically. ::Luma Chief Lee has just tendered his apology to you.:: He then relayed it to her. (Reply: Luma) “I do have some concerns with regarding Luma’s involvement on this ship. Correct me if I am wrong but is Luma persona linked in with the ship’s systems and who is she accountable to in the chain of command. I’m not really clear about what she means by her father on the Hades” Sekal moved to his chair and sat down. "Luma is accountable to myself, Commander Verin and other members of the command line Mister Lee just like any other member of the crew on this ship and she will take their orders. She routinely defaults to me however since I am a mind bondmate. What does that mean? It means I am a direct point of contact telepathically, am expected to mediate between herself and any member of the crew with which she has a dispute and am a guide in her interactions with the crew. As for how she is tied into the ships systems; she is integrated into the computer system so has command/control interface with all of the automated functions of the ship. As for your last question...," He sat back and crossed his right leg over the left as he considered his answer. "... Luma is an ancient being though childlike in many ways. My father was one of her initial points of contact with our civilization and she has a .... fondness for him as a former mind bondmate. When he returned to the fleet he took up oversight of Luma in order to protect her and in turn she has taken on a subservient role much like a child. In her mind he has become a father figure and she refers to him as such." “I understand that Luma’s have some defensive capabilities to protect this ship and the crew? So I would like clarification on how she can protect this ship in the event of a boarding action or in the possible event of the ship being captured. Would she do this on her own authority or act on the orders of a command officer?. You see what I am worried about and what comes to mind is that Luma will make her own decisions without consulting someone…a ‘loose cannon'. A loose cannon is an Earth expression meaning an unpredictable or uncontrolled being who is liable to cause unintentional damage.” "Ah I see." The Vulcan nodded. "As I understand it this is a reference to the fact that cannons on wooden sailing ships if they broke the ropes which had them lashed to their places could roll about the deck causing substantial damage." He then considered the question. "Luma will not take action without orders or at the request of someone else on the ship. She understands that the crew is to run, maintain and make the decisions that govern the routine operation of it. Some of what she can do is classified to command only level but I can say that she has some substantial abilities." He got up and went to the replicator for a pitcher of water and glasses then walked back to the desk and offered his security chief one. "As for what might be expected from her outside of orders...," he took a sip, "... were we to have boarders Luma could use the transporters to neutralize the enemy and were the entirety of those aboard to be incapacitated she could pilot the ship back to Federation space to get assistance. While she is considered a civilian not having a rank she also will obey orders as any other crew member." “You see. I am concerned that if she fell into enemy hands, she could be radicalised or turned against Starfleet interests. There has to be some control over her. Dare I go to say there maybe similarities to aQ” "I believe I have already answered that concern. As Captain and mind bondmate I give both orders and direction to Luma. As for your concern about her being radicalized allow me to impart some background information." Sekal activated the holographic system on the desktop and a 3D simulation of the Mystique appeared above it. "This is the USS Mystique. Captain Winters and her first officer Commander Saleke encountered a drifting generation ship some thirty seven years ago with Luma'lenai aboard. All of its Illuminari crew had perished many thousands of years in the past due to an accidental release of radiation due to damage to the ship. Captain Winters took her aboard and integrated her into the Mystique. My father then Commander Saleke took command of the Mystique after Captain Winters was rendered unable to continue. Saleke's command was later transferred to the USS Hades but he was not allowed to take Luma with him." Sekal left the Akira class drifting above the desk as he took a drink then sat back. "StarFleet Intelligence took control of the Mystique and spent nearly ten years attempting to turn Luma into a weapon. They deprived her of a mind bondmate which cut her off from real-time contact with her surroundings, attempted to find ways to replicate her or create more lenai and she resisted their efforts to indoctrinate her into becoming a destructive force. In retaliation for her resistance they deprived her of motive force, mothballed the ship and concocted a cover story of damage to the ship in order to keep anyone away from it. This was what we stepped into when we discovered the Mystique mothballed at Utopia Planitia space dock. Luma was initially hostile to myself, Commander Verin and those with us. I took on the role of mind bondmate in order to assuage her concerns and mediate between herself and the command structure headed by at that time Admiral Remae. As for keeping Luma out of enemy hands..." he set the glass down, "... I will remove Luma and send her to safety if I can but if I cannot I can and will destroy the ship along with her and all of the classified material aboard it. Luma is well aware of this. But before it comes to that I will consider and exhaust all other possibilities. As for Luma being a Q? No though there are some superficial similarities. Luma is an energy based, telepathic lifeform originally having a crystalline body. The Q gave some the ability to escape the destruction of their planet. Luma is aware of the Q and is afraid of them. She cannot match one though she has some abilities you would find fantastic." “She make an ideal accomplishment when it to do with Security operations..a defensive or offensive weapon." Sekal leaned forward. "Yes she perhaps would but as I have demonstrated Luma has already proven that she would refuse to be turned into such a weapon. She is a being that prizes life, wishes peace and will do anything in her power to safeguard those aboard her skin." All the while the 3D representation of the Mystique hung stolidly above the desk. (Reply: Lee) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Ready Room – CO – Chief of Security Lt (jn) Keung Lee –1555) Lee slipped from the glass and stared at the 3D image of the Mystique. There was indeed much to reflect upon when it came to Luma who Lee considered as a equivalent to a spoilt immature teenager. “It was a shame that he couldn’t somehow weaponised Luma. She would be invaluable as an asset.a potential weapon of mass destruction” He looked across at the Captain and realised he just spoken his thoughts outloud. (reply) “I now have a better understanding of Luma, Captain. “ Lee drained his glass, and stood up. “Thank you for seeing me Sir.” (reply) (posted by John) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Ready Room – CO – Captain Sekal –1556) “It was a shame that he couldn’t somehow weaponised Luma. "Such weapons are a two edged sword Lieutenant and can just as easily destroy they who created them as those upon whom they are loosed. It is a lesson that has been hard learned by many civilizations, some of which no longer exist as a result." “I now have a better understanding of Luma, Captain. “ His chief of security finished the glass and rose to his feet. “Thank you for seeing me Sir.” "Of course Lieutenant, I am always available for consultation should you have questions and to clear up misunderstandings." Sekal watched Keung Lee leave the Ready Room then shook his head. It was the way of things. Entropy was always pushing to find an entrance and roll back order. It was resisting their attempts to revitalize the Federation and push back out into the quadrant and would always be there attempting to destroy what was being built. That was its modus operandi and if given the chance it would find a way to destroy from within. Countless civilizations had fallen to it in the past and as many would do so in the future. And eventually the Federation would succumb to it as well. But not within his lifetime if he had a say. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 2 - Personal Quarters - FO Sienna Williams-Verin & CTO Lt. (jg) T’Mur –1600) The meeting with the Admiral had been long and grueling, especially as T’Mur had spent much of her time expending mental energy to help shield Sienna’s mind from the errant thoughts of those on the ship. It had been getting tiring. She was pleased to be back in the comfort of their quarters where she could at least release some of her control, especially with herself. As the door closed she grabbed hold of Sienna and pulled her in tightly, holding her and allowing her mind to reduce the shielding and enter mind more easily. After a minute she released her hold on her mate and held her a few inches away, looking at the bruising on her face. She touched the discolored area gently. ::Are you all right?:: ::Tired. Everything in my mind and body hurts. My pride hurts the most. I meant what I said, no one is going to know why I pitched forward and fell on my face, literally. They can’t know unless their security clearance is higher. Are you unhappy I had to keep this secret?:: Sienna was by nature the more submissive of the twins, and with T’Mur that nature tended to slip out. It was a relief valve for when she was off duty. ::I was so terrified when you were taken. I thought I had lost you.:: She was clinging to T’Mur, needing the feel of her mate. Now alone the Vulcan’s mood lightened. ::Of course not. It was a necessity. Logical. I’m certain that eventually it would have been… uncovered.:: As she thought the word uncovered she unzipped the front of Sienna’s tunic. ::I told you that I would be all right. You need to believe me on these matters. You will not lose me, for a very long time. I am always with you.:: She reached down into their bond, gently, and soothed the raw edges of her ravaged telepathic connection. Sienna leaned her forehead against T’Mur, leaning just a bit, “Did I embarrass you with the Admiral? I tried very hard not to.” She spoke out loud, her voice a tad muffled. ::I never want you to regret…:: She switched to telepathy since it was easier than talking around the pain that still was in her face. ::Quinna didn’t do much more than mend the broken parts and reduce the swelling, I’m supposed to report to sickbay if it bothers me.:: She shrugged, confused and not wanting to think about Quinna. She missed her friend. T’Mur could sense the regret in her mate when she talked about their friend. Quinna was on a mission and it would not be in her best interest to rekindle their friendship at this time. She addressed the initial question. ::I am never embarrassed by you, my love. Both Admiral Saleke and Captain Sekal have bondmates. If they do not understand then no one will. They have known what it is to be in love.:: She kissed her mate on the lips, gently. “We shall have to be gentle then... for a while.” Sienna met the kiss with her own, making a soft sound as she pressed too hard. “Normally I would want you to be more rough, but today I can’t.” She moved away from T’Mur reluctantly but began to shed her clothing as she headed to their bathing room and started the tub. “Come join us?” ::Us?:: T’Mur thought, as she began to remove her own uniform. “I… I guess sharing with Luma has me thinking that I am plural.” “Tell me,” T’Mur looked at Sienna, “is Luma with us now?” Sienna’s eyes unfocused for a moment, “No. She’s more focused on Sekal. But he’s not touching her so she feels more present. I’m just raw.” Sienna focused on the tub, “What scent do you wish? In the bath water.” T’Mur looked at the tub as if it were a calculus problem. Sienna had assured her that the olfactory influences of a bubble bath were part of the experience. However she had trouble getting past the functionality of actually bathing. However, she did enjoy being naked in the water with her mate, and enjoyed her aroma. She gave a typical response. “Have you developed a Sienna scent yet?” she asked. “Silly, no. Of course not.” She looked pleased as she chose sandalwood and put the beads in the water to dissolve and disperse the oil. These were home made and artisan, made by a friend of Sienna’s from the Academy. Sienna stopped the taps and slid into the blessedly hot water. T’Mur leaned over the tub and recognized the scent. “I still do not comprehend why they call it sandalwood. It does not smell like sandals or wood..” “Some things just are my love. Come into the tub and soak. Tell me about your experience on the planet.” Sienna soaked a washcloth and then laid it across her aching face with a soft sigh of pleasure as the heat felt good against her face. What she needed was ice however. T’Mur sat behind Sienna and wrapped her legs around her. She picked up a sponge, soaked it in the water, and began to rub it across her shoulders and back. She released the sponge and began to massage her mate’s shoulders, trying to ease the tension from them. Sienna leaned into T’Mur’s body, “I envy Sekal his relationship with his father. He’s lucky the education he had due to his Father. Trip had a lot of that with our Dad, and I had some of that with my Mother, but nothing like what the two of them share. I can see why Luma calls Admiral Sekal her Father.” T’Mur shrugged. “You have a wonderful relationship with your own father. I would not envy him, if I were you. I remember when I was a child, and my parents showed their … appreciation of me. I would not have envied any other’s relationship, to the one I had at that time as it was more than sufficient. My parents were supportive, in their way, and they taught me their craft.” Her hands moved slower as she became more introspective. “It wasn’t until after… I was attacked, when things changed. Then for years, it was as if I were no longer part of that family. I no longer had a place.” T’Mur shook her head as if to clear the thoughts from her mind. ::I have a place now.:: “You have, and will always have that family that will support you. Your parents just have different skill sets, and different focus than Sekal. I believe there is a human phrase, and it is one that even I understand. The grass is always greener in someone else’s yard. It is easy to find fault with your own family because you look at it differently.” She turned Sienna’s face with her thumb and forefinger on her chin. “I would not even change my family dynamic as it lead me to you. Without it we would not be together.” She kissed Sienna a little harder, but with a calculated amount of pressure. Sienna whimpered at the kiss that pressed on places that still hurt badly. “Maybe you can play Nurse and finish patching me up with the medkit I keep under the bed?” She asked hopefully, the heat helping to relax her tense and aching muscles. “Do you think that Sekal minded that I basically took myself off duty this afternoon? I’m not a good choice to be commanding right now.” T’Mur shook her head, “You are a much better commander than you give yourself credit for.” She went back to Sienna’s neck and began to dig a little deeper into the muscles. “You just need to relax and trust yourself to lead those around you. Your team knows what they are doing. You just need to make those final decisions. Your choice to shift during the last battle was a prime example. It just held consequences that you were unaware of.” “I was aware of most of them. I wasn’t aware that Luma needed a corporeal bondmate in order to function and do that jump. And I know she is upset by something - really upset. I’m not sure what but she’s muttering. T’Mur I didn’t want this. I was told back on Mars that I was not a good bondmate for her, that they needed a strong betazoid telepath. For a half-blooded Betazoid, I had close to full-blooded abilities but not exactly. Then Q messed with me, and here I am. Apparently now I’m acceptable as a bondmate for her?” She closed her eyes and just existed with the feel of T’Mur’s hands on her. “Maybe with experience, I will become a great commander. There is some training that I want to do in the holodeck - working with Luma to try out simulations. Would you enjoy doing it with me..us?” Sienna looked back and up at her mate. T’Mur quirked an eyebrow, “I would do anything with you. My enjoyment would not be the issue. If you want me to … enjoy something with you,” she moved her head to the side of Sienna’s and began to bite her neck lightly, ::I will be more than happy to comply.:: “But I will participate in any simulation that would give you the confidence to be a better commander. And yes, Luma can join us in those ventures.” ::However there are some ventures I am not yet willing to share you with.:: T’Mur’s hands began to slide down Sienna’s body in a provocative manner. Her left hand dipped under the water to find a sensitive zone. Sienna merely whimpered as T’Mur explored and the two played. After a few minutes, she whispered, “The water is cooling. And you need to patch me up so I do not need to deal with Quinna again today. And you wanted to go play with the Vice Admiral.” Sienna’s eyes teased, laughingly. “So let us do these things, and then I can rest. Luma can lock the quarters if needed. I’d like to have Counselor Reea stop by while you are off playing.” T’Mur nodded, giving one last kiss, then stood up, and helped Sienna from the tub. She could feel the goosebumps from the cooling water. They made their way to the bedroom and she pulled the medkit from its hiding place. At first she thought it odd for Sienna to have such an extensive medical collection in her room. But she soon realized that her mate was as accident prone as she proclaimed. She opened the kit and pulled out a tube of analgesic cream. The Vulcan opened the tube and squeezed some of the white substance in her hand and gently rubbed it into the skin around her injury. Sienna winced. “You are fortunate,” T’Mur said flatly, “that I have an appreciation of women with dislocated nasal cartilage. It looks good on you.” Sienna laughed, “I have the extensive medkit because my twin used to do cage fighting and would not go get tended in sickbay. To avoid disciplinary action. I learned patching up skills to take care of him. Sometimes he would take Lynn with him and not wake me up. He had a lot of rage after his Imzadi’s death at the hands of Roanoke.” “Hmmm,” T’Mur replied. “And here I believed it was to patch you up when you fell. However, I will put my skills to use for you alone.” Once Sienna’s facial injury had been tended to she rolled over into the bed. T’Mur covered her up with a sheet, then lay down next to her, snuggling until she could feel the light pattern of her mate’s sleep breathing. Once assured that she was not going to wake up T’Mur rolled off the bed and put on a fresh uniform. She turned off the light and watched Sienna sleep for a moment. As she left their quarters she touched the door frame. ::Luma, please lock the door to our quarters and allow Sienna to sleep undisturbed.:: Luma did as requested, ::Our Sienna will be fine?!” The Lenai was obviously upset about something. ::She will heal. When I return from the Klingon vessel you and I will need to speak about what occurred today. I would speak with you now but I do not have the time.:: ::Sienna’s T’Mur is angry? Please do not be angry with Luma?:: Luma begged, still not happy. She needed to talk to someone, and she was feeling a bit lost and confused. T’Mur tried to send a soothing message to Luma, ::Being angry with you would not be logical. I am not having an emotional response and I do not hold you responsible for Sienna’s injury. But I do not understand what happened and what you did to and with Sienna. And I would like to know.:: ::Later then.:: Luma sent a wave of affection towards T’Mur ::Luma adores Sienna’s T’Mur and her Sienna.:: T’Mur walked down the corridor returning the sensation. ::And we adore you as well.:: (reply none) (posted by Al Muir and Mel G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 1- Bridge – EO - Ensign Bohb and CO- Captain Sekal- 1608) Bohb stepped onto the bridge, which seemed to still be all in one piece. He looked at the command chair for any sign of Commander Verin’s injuries, but saw none. He had given what he wanted to say to the captain careful consideration. After all, he was a civilized Magillan. He had spent a great deal of time in “sensitivity training” to understand the non-verbal cues of other races so as not to offend… or be offended. One of the tenants had become, before you try to rip someone’s arms off you should talk to someone else. He also had many questions about Luma’s time shifting, some of them were, well, important. He moved across to the door leading to the captain’s ready room, and placed his hand on the door chime, as he waited for a response. Sekal set down the glass in his hand while wondering who might be at his door at this time. "Come." He sat back upon seeing the Magillan enter the office. "Mr. Bohb please take a seat." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 1- Ready Room – EO - Ensign Bohb and CO- Captain Sekal - 1609) Bohb stepped into the office and on seeing Sekal his face beamed. He was always pleased to see the son of Saleke, knowing the boy was a… chip off the old block. He moved over to the desk and looked at the offered seat. With a shrug he sat in it and wiggled his body until he was as comfortable as he could make it. “I know you’re busy Captain,” he began, “so I will try not to take up too much of your time. Recent events have left me with some questions, and I was advised to ask you.”” "Very well, continue please." “As I am to understand it, Luma has the capacity to move the Illuminar through time as well as space,” he stated more as a question. “Luma made it clear that she is connected to all time simultaneously. Is that correct so far?” "To an extent. We had this discussion earlier. It is believed Luma has access to the extent of her own existence." “So my question is how does the ship's new position in time correlate to what” is already in that timeline? Would it not cause a paradox on a universal scale, creating either an alternate timeline, or worse, an inability for the universe to make sense of the change and eliminate the new timeline in a most violent of manner? "You make an excellent point which is why her movement through time with the ship and those aboard her is restricted. Luma moving herself alone would be a considerable risk but with the ship in tow it is conceivable that damage to the timeline would be considerable. Luma does not understand this as her own essence is relatively unaffected. It is the other repercussions that she does not see." “So we shifted in time about 10 seconds, and I see no discernible effect on the universe,” Bohb said. “I am having a problem aligning this to what little I know about time travel. Traveling backwards in time would have a more considerable and measurable effect. However, since we traveled forward, how can we measure the effect of the maneuver on the universe that we just white washed over?” "A slight jump forward has little effect and the ripples are minimized. Consider this, some on the bridge of the Hades noted and were confused by it but what if the jump had been forward one minute or one hour? There would be no clear way to explain it outside of time travel. As is, it is simply a confusing blip that in itself raises questions but will not travel very far. Going back in the past as you noted however is problematic. What if the jump was before the encounter with the ship and now two existed? Or before we set out from Regulus? The farther back one goes the greater the damage to the timeline. So in either direction the consequences mount the farther one goes. This is why her ability to do so is constrained by a mind bondmate." “I have indeed made such a consideration,” Bohb admitted. “I wonder what happened to the Illuminar that we, for lack of a better way of putting it, rewrote. I also have considered that humans… and Vulcans… are not fond of mysteries. I am constantly amazed at the level they will go to solve such things, and often the mystery is minor. Although it is only a 10 second mystery, that is the kind of mystery that will pick at someone until they find the answer. And then her secret will be out.” Sekal nodded. "The Admiral himself admitted as much. At some point her secrets will be revealed but until then knowledge of them will not be fostered. Going back into the past would be rewriting and causing a paradox. The only result of this small jump forward is not unlike the trial run of the maximum warp sustainability test where the ship briefly entered a subspace conduit and began skipping over light years in a matter of seconds. The ship moved forward without altering past events. It is the altering of past events which causes a paradox and damage to the timeline." Bohb laughed, “Once again, like your father, we are on the same wavelength. I had taken the initiative to create a sensor scenario that would show the exact same event showing up in our sensor records, if someone were to do a diagnostic. It would be almost indeterminable from the records that already exist in our data banks.” He pulled out a data chip and put it on the desk, and slid it across to Sekal. “Of course, if you’d prefer that I input the data and thus be the only one that would be culpable in creating an official false record I would understand, and would happily do so. Sekal picked up the chip and inserted it into the computer access port. The simulation appeared above his desk and he tapped the control to play it. The ship that was input into the program disappeared to reappear exactly ten seconds later in a different section of the partitioned display which gave a reading of 200k kilometers. The Vulcan watched it closely before commenting. "Due to what I imparted to you earlier this could be explained away though some questions might still persist. Consider this: The ship energized a warp bubble to do a small jump but due to the necessary speedy release of energy entered a hyperwarp conduit and overshot then was forced to return. It would take a detailed examination of all of the sensor logs which might still be insufficient to debunk the official story." “As I said,” Bohb responded, “human tenacity can cause them to do somethings that others might consider to be… crazy. However, if you look carefully I have created the data to simulate the warp bubble and the access to hyper space. It could only be “debunked” if you had actually been there, scanning for subspace instabilities at the time of the occurrence. However, I will acquiesce to your own decision. I just wanted to help.” The Vulcan nodded. "I agree with your simulation and it corresponds to the experience aboard the ship in the past. I also agree with your deduction about the scans. This is what some would call I believe 'saying the same thing in a different way'. Though certainly not in the way Dr. Teller would no doubt express it." Bohb chuckled, “He does have a way to turn a phrase. I think I understood something he said earlier today. But I can’t be sure.” Bohb stood up and stretched a little. He looked ready to go and then stopped. “May I say something of a more personal nature?” "Permission granted." “I had a conversation with Ms. Luma earlier today,” he began. “She informed me that Lieutenant Lee called her a traitor, or something of that ilk. My initial reaction was to teach the man some manners. If you know my record… .” The Vulcan's eyes closed for an instant then reopened. "I also spoke to Luma about the matter but not only that I was given access to the entire conversation. I also spoke to Chief Lee later who apologized for intimating the way Luma received it. As I told Luma from a dispassionate and logical standpoint after looking at it this was the result of a misunderstanding between the two and he never called her a traitor. He was attempting to advise her that disobeying orders and allowing classified material to fall into enemy hands would be a traitorous act. And the reason he said that was because he believed falsely that she would be put into a situation where she could not be controlled. I informed him that this would not happen. Luma was giving a possible scenario of what could happen were she to be making the decision … as he asked. But that scenario would not happen. Luma is an emotional being and emotional beings make mistakes regarding content when they believe themselves attacked… which she was not. This is not the first time she has had a disagreement with an officer over the subject." Bohb humphed at the thought of Luma being controlled. He also gave an agreeing vocalization at her having disagreements with others, as he recalled his own timeout in her shuttle. “As I said, sir, it was a personal matter. What do you know, Doctor Aster was correct. How embarrassing it would have been for me to dislocate Lee’s shoulders over a misunderstanding.” "Quite." Sekal spoke in agreement. “Well thank you for your time … Captain Sekal,” Bohb turned to leave then stopped at the door. “You know, in some ways you are superior to your father. Luma certainly respects you, and I respect her opinion. Have a wonderful day sir.” Before he left the Captain had one thing to say. "I believe you underestimate my father. Many have in the past and found out they were wrong. While Luma respects me my father is also the recipient of the highest status in her eyes, that of a mentor. Good day Mr. Bohb." Bohb smiled, and did his best imitation of a Vulcan, “Indeed. But trust me when I say, Capt...Admiral Saleke is never someone I would underestimate. Nor would I you. Thank you, sir.” (reply none) (posted by Al Muir and Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USSIlluminar -- Bridge -- Deck 1 -- FO Commander Sienna Williams-Verin & CMO Lt. Quinna Solice -- 1410) “Talk to me,” Quinna asked, sitting beside Sienna in the FO’s chair. “Hey, Doc.” Her voice sounded pretty garbled through the cloth containing the bleeding nose. “I fell flat on my face when the ship moved. More precisely I blacked out. I know why though.” As much as it pained Sienna, to keep up with Quinna’s deception, she could not tell Quinna the real reason. And in the past, she would have touched Quinna to impart the information telepathically, but Sienna was not sure how much of the argument about her and T’Mur entering Quinna’s mind in a meld to destroy the implanted personality was her actual feelings. As a result Sienna was twitching a little bit, the conflicting desires causing her to be unable to hold still. “Sienna, I need you to hold still. I need to fix your nose.” Quinna said as she reached for the device she needed to mend the nose. Sienna tried to hold still for Quinna’s benefit, and it was painful as she worked on the fractured nose. “Well when you do something, you seem to do it right.” Quinna was not sure how moving the ship would cause a blackout. “So a Blackout, that is not good. Perhaps you should report to sickbay? What if you blackout again?” “I know why, and I can not leave the bridge right now.” Sienna touched Quinna’s arm as gently as she could and sent two thoughts, ::Keep this confrontational and the blackout was because of Luma. It should not repeat. I miss you.:: Three thoughts. Quickly, and Sienna made the touch look like she was trying to stabilize herself using Quinna as an anchor. “I still need you to hold still as the nose was still being repaired” Quinna ordered. Sienna tried to be meek, “Yes Doc, Ouch!” She whimpered as the cartilage was forcibly put back in place. Quinna put the mender down and started to fuse to broken capillaries on the nose. “Since you are not going to get yourself checked out, maybe I should stay on the bridge.” Quinna gave a reassuring nod that she understood the message that was received. “It would be advisable for you to do so. There may be more minor injuries that take place before this battle is completely concluded.” Sienna agreed, her tone neutral, trending towards cold. “It will be on my report.” Quinna said and then handing a towelette to Sienna, “Here, you can use this to clean the blood.” Sienna took the moist towelette and carefully cleaned the blood from her face, ignoring the drops on her uniform. That was what laundry was for. “Thank you, Doc.” Still, her voice was cool. Obviously, there was something wrong between the two women that had not been resolved. “We will be boarding the ship within the hour, Doc. Do you have any suggestions for the boarding team?” Sienna was not a great actress, but she kept the coolness in her voice. “Besides Security, I am not sure who should go. I can go if needed, but I am not sure if I am needed.” Quinna suggested. Sienna leveled a look on Quinna and asked a question, carefully, “Do you feel the need to go?” She was not pleased with Quinna being part of the intelligence community. “No of course not. There is no medical emergency. See, I know nothing about command.” How is your nose now?” Quinna asked. “It will be bruised for a day or two. The area will be tender.” “Bruised and tender. I’m sure the colors will be lovely as the bruises fade.” She tried hard not to grin, “There will be medics in security, one of the cadets has taken first aid training for instance. But you should be prepared for injuries, as boarding does not always go according to plan.” “Sickbay is always ready,” Quinna stated. Quinna sat back in the first officer’s seat on the Bridge and crossed her legs. She looked at Sienna and wondered what she knew. She hoped that she knew nothing as she did not want to put her friend in any more danger. Sienna brooded, watching Dr. Solice out of the corner of her eye. All of this an act to convince others that Quinna was disaffected from her friends and ripe for the picking. Sienna closed her eyes a moment, ::Luma, watch over Quinna, please. Keep her safe.:: (Reply None) (Posted by Melinda G. and Kris B.) DAY 10>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar – Deck 1 - Bridge - CO - Captain Sekal and 3/0 Lieutenant Dieter Gregory- 0545) Sekal walked onto the Bridge with the news from StarFleet Command uppermost in his mind. Decisions had to be made going forward and they had already been put into motion. He stopped as he always did to observe ongoing bridge operations before stepping to the command chair and getting Dieter's attention. "Lieutenant Gregory to my Ready Room please." “Aye Sir, and good morning Sir,” Gregory said as he stood up, following the Captain to his ready room. The Vulcan turned and made his way toward the bridge office. (USS Illuminar – Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO - Captain Sekal and 2/0 Lieutenant Commander Dieter Gregory- 0550) Sekal stepped inside and moved toward the sideboard. "Have a seat please Lieutenant, we have something of importance to discuss." He stood there with his hands cupped at the small of his back as the ship's third officer hesitated then took a chair. Gregory looked confused, “Sir, is there something wrong with my performance?“ Sekal shook his head. "Negative. The communication received from StarFleet Command was concerning the availability of Commander Carson Peters. He will not be returning to the ship for the foreseeable future due to personal business. In order for the ship to function at peak efficiency I require a second officer. You have completed the required training and have proven your mettle during ship operations." “Yes, sir, I have, and thank you sir. I appreciate your trust. Will StarFleet be assigning another second officer? I would be happy to work with them.” "No." The Captain left the sideboard and moved to his desk. He reached into the drawer and pulled out a small black box which he placed upon the desktop. "I have already spoken with command about the matter. You will be stepping up to the second officer position. Along with this comes a promotion in rank." He opened the box and retrieved the empty pip that resided within. "Please come forward Lieutenant Commander." Gregory stood up, and stood at attention. After the pip was placed on his collar, the imperceptible weight of the small metal dot came down. He had never expected to be elevated to command until he got transferred to the Illuminar and came under the tutelage of the Captain. Sure, he had lots to learn. Stepping back, he gave the Captain a parade ground salute, “Thank you for your confidence Sir, I will not let you or the ship down.” Sekal nodded. "You have been on Gamma shift but I am moving you to Beta to work with Commander Verin. There are other officers that can handle the late tour and there is still a great deal for you to master. You also have worked very well with the First Officer and have been a valuable resource for her. I expect that the posting will be advantageous for the both of you." Gregory nodded, “Aye, Sir. I look forward to learning and the challenge. The Gamma shift team is coalescing nicely and will be an asset. I’d recommend keeping them on the training schedule we started, sir.” The Vulcan nodded. "I will assign another officer to oversee Gamma watch." “If that is all, SIr, permission to be dismissed,” he asked. Sekal gave a slight shrug. "Permission granted. I will notify Commander Verin of the change of schedule. Check in with her during Beta shift then you will have the rest of today off duty and take up your assigned rotation tomorrow." “Aye Sir, and thank you.” Gregory saluted again, before executing an about-face and headed to the bridge. It was time for morning exercise with the NCOs. She made a great job of coordinating 30 people into three shifts even though it is frustrating and task bearing operation. She knew that some of the Security Officers would bitch and moan about being put on certain tasks. Since the demise of ensign Picard, Carol had to jungle around more experience security officers to be a shift leader on a rotary basis. So she decided to add PO3 Jared Boyles as Gamma shift leader. Lee noticed that some of the names on the rota consisted of cadets, “Is there a reason for this, Carol?” asked Lee “I thought it provides a good excellent opportunity whilst the ship is quiet to build the cadets’ confidence as part of their development to get know the ship “ she replied “Excellent” nodded Lee. “Okay. Let’s brief Gamma shift” Both Lee and Carol went next door into the Security Office, where the security team had gathered. Her thinking was. Just because this was the graveyard shift, it should really be a quiet and cosy one. “Let me just go over the duties. This is for the benefit of you newbies here. Let me remind you this may not be attractive as getting involved in ‘gung ho..bang bang’ missions but this is what you really sign up for! If you wanted that sort of action, you should have joined the marines.” Said Lee, trying to inject a sense of humour Okay. Let’s have a look at what you will be engaged in. First Deck Patrol. This covers all decks and it is roving position. Please ensure that you cover all the decks in pairs. You can decide among yourselves what decks to cover but try to overlapping. The Armoury officer has reported that the phasers lockers on each deck and other key places should be checked. I understand that some phasers are either malfunctioned or missing. So keep an eye out and make a note. Next Armoury. Here you assisting the Armoury Officer with administration and maintenance as well as checking weapons are useable. If there’s not much to do, then practice on the firing range.. Then we have Security Monitoring Station” Lee pointed next door. “This is a static position and should not be unattended. If you need to go for a loo break, then make sure someone is covering the station.“As for the brig. This is only covered when there is a prisoner in the Brig. If it is occupied, then you may use this time as ‘office time’. Also, check-in with Lt Tier in case you required elsewhere. Bridge. Monitoring the Security and tactical workstation. Hanger/shuttle bay. If we have any visitors, then it is your job to greet and welcome them. Also check for authorise and unauthorize departures. You mainly patrol the areas. Make sure no one is going to joy ride in a shuttle.” Lee smiled at the thought of that. “You notice a * by your name. That means you maybe available for other duties as required by the Command staff.” “Please report to P03 Jared Boyles at the beginning of your shift for a briefing. When on duty, you must remain at your post. Do not leave it unattended. If you have to leave for some reason, inform your shift leader. To enable smooth changeover of positions, arrive at least five minutes before the start of time. Let your relief know if you going to be delayed. Do not move off before your relief arrives. Any issues contact your shift leader. In the event of a ship-wide emergency, alerts and call to battle stations this roster will, of course be suspended. That’s it from me.” Said Lee. “Ms Lennis. Its over to you for your briefing ” invited Lee (reply anyone) (posted by John) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar – Deck 14 – Chief of Security Office - Security Officer- PO3 Jared Boyles - 0705) People tend not to understand those with a wry sense of humor which is often known as dry. It can seem snobbish, belittling and even at times confrontational. So the people who use it are often considered strange, outlandish and maybe even a little crazy. Case in point Petty Officer 3rd class Jared Boyles. Boyles and Steven Hammons had been partners on Earth at one point and later been transferred to Mars. Being partnered again there they had continued their friendship and become best buddies in large part because they shared a dry wit. If you missed the humor in their voice when they were bantering back and forth one might think they were frienemies. But that is the nature of a dry wit, finding humor in places that aren't obvious, picking good naturedly at someone or just throwing out off-the-wall observations. His current line of thought was ~Oh hell, if the Chief can't find anyone better than me for Gamma shift lead this ship is in trouble!~ He got why he had been picked for this. Gamma shift was what is generally known as the graveyard shift. The bulk of the business was done during the day and if anything exciting happened the heavy hitters would jump out of bed and take over. Petty Office, Boyles. Its over to you for your briefing ” Boyles was a little shaky as he got to his feet but once there he planted them strong and took a deep breath. Hammons was good at this and he'd been climbing the ladder but Jared was the straight man, the Hardy to Steven's Stan Laurel. He was an easy going cut-up... but it was time to stand up and be counted or forever step away from the stage. He let the breath out and his voice was firm. "Everyone here knows their job and you've been doing these same duties for 3 months now. The pressure is on, blood has been spilled and it's time to finish the job. Once that is done we will fall back on what we do to keep order on the ship. Gamma shift is usually quiet ... until it's not and we will be the ones who keep it quiet. You will report to me and I'll report to the Chief and if you see anything that isn't right don't hesitate to call for backup." He looked from face to face. "You are set up in pairs for your own safety, cadets with more experienced crewmen. You have your partners back and if you don't do your job you put both at risk. Keep your eyes and minds alert or I'll feed you to Galk." He cracked a smile and gave a wink. "That's all the pep talk you are going to get. Back to you chief." He turned and nodded to Lieutenant Lee then sat down with a smile on his face, he'd survived and felt good about it. The sky was the limit. People who don't stick their necks out don't get promotions and now ... well ... his neck was extended. He just hoped it wasn't resting on a chopping block. (Reply: Lee, any) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Hades -- Hallway -- ACSO T'shalaith -- 0745) Humanity. What an odd and curious thing, she considered. She had spent much of her life away from them and until recently had worked to ensure the distance remained. Four years of tolerating them as she studied her way through the Academy had been barely worth it. She’d made no lasting friendships, and earned several nicknames along the way. She observed in the silence as she walked to the transporter room that if nicknames were to bother her, she’d wonder if she had lost her fanatical devotion to Logic. They didn’t bother her as much as fascinate her and push her further into observing and studying the various eccentricities of humans. Turning a corner she reflected on her assignment to the USS Illuminar. Her stay on the USS Hades had been brief and not without complications. It wasn’t that she was not competent, qualified, or knowledgeable. It was her age and time she had spent in Vulcan Expeditionary Group. She did not view this through an emotional lens of frustration. She viewed it through a lens of logic and rational thought. She stepped into the transporter room and caught the glance of the nameless human officer who was holding the station. He visibly tensed up, and she felt a frown cross her eyebrows. Humans were such social creatures in their shared experiences with others, and her legacy on the Hades would no doubt keep what the humans called the grapevine growing for weeks and months after she’d departed. She stepped directly to the station, noticing with amusement the slight sweat on the brow of the young human officer. “Ensign Junior Grade T'shalaith requesting transport to the USS Illuminar per transfer orders from Starfleet Command.” She offered a PADD with the details to the man, but he just nodded quietly. “Your orders were forwarded, Ensign T'shalaith. Your personal belongings have been transferred to your crew quarters on the Illuminar. You may step onto the pad when ready.” His attention snapped back to the console where he continued to work. T'shalaith resisted the urge to frown further. He did not wish to speak to her further. Perhaps it was better that way. She stepped onto the transporter pad, wondering what lay ahead for her as she moved into the next part of her professional career in Starfleet. Her desire to find a place to do her best work for the furthering of science and medicine had been the driving force to step into the Starfleet world. Her rampant curiosity about humanity had been a secondary but still powerful motivator. “Transporting you now, Ensign T'shalaith.” The world went exceedingly white for a moment. There was a growing whine from the unit as a pillar of energy formed above the nearest pad. It built momentarily before coalescing and taking form. As the being solidified he stifled an inward groan. ~This place is becoming Vulcan central. Have logic will travel. (Reply: T'shalaith) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 5, Transporter Room 2 --ACSO T'shalaith -- 0750) T'shalaith took in the room. One transporter officer. And a petty security officer. She raised one eyebrow in curiosity. In general, what the humans called a “Welcome Wagon” didn’t usually consist of a security officer. She’d become used to meeting her superior officer, or someone from her department put in the demeaning role of escorting her to wherever she was supposed to be assigned. A security officer was a new development, at least for the Vulcan scientist. She caught a slight roll of the eyes from the man. She lowered her eyebrow. Humans could surprise you, or they could just do what was expected. "Ensign T'shalaith welcome to the USS Illuminar. I have orders to escort you to the Ready Room where the Captain is waiting for you." T'shalaith gave him a once over. He was strong, if not short. She had learned long ago that despite a shorter stature those she towered over were more dangerous. She didn’t expect she would need to fight the petty officer anytime soon, but she filed away her observations all the same. “Thank you Petty Officer. It is a welcome opportunity to serve.” The man turned and led her out the door and down the hall, chatting her over his shoulder. "So tell me what brings you to the Illuminar? Fame? Fortune? Karaoke night?" The assistant chief science officer raised her eyebrow. The wry sense of humor didn’t exactly grate heavily on her emotionless nerves, but it had a faint sound of nails against an offending surface. There were moments where she wished humans had some kind of volume control or even a mute function. She could get so much more done in her head if those around her would remain silent aside from needing to share mission-specific information regarding the situation at hand. Her study of humanity recognized that the petty officer was engaging in what they called, “small talk” and it was both inane, and illogical. She also realized that a misstep here in the process of first impressions would lead Mr. Hammons to spread her initial reaction to the rest of the ship. “I seek none of those things, Mr. Hammons. Fame is an illusion, fortune is illogical, and…”, she paused searching her human conversational experience for something and settled on, “I am unsure if the Vulcan musical performances I am trained in would be appropriate for a ‘Karaoke Night’. (Reply: T'shalaith) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 1- Bridge -- ASCO T'shalaith -- 0800) The bridge of the Illuminar was very similar to the USS Voyager. T'shalaith found this comforting. Tuvok had been born in the same colony that she had called home. They had never met, but his journey was a legend to her family and those that lived there. He had long been an inspiration to her as she’d made her journeys through the Vulcan fleet and now to Starfleet. She followed the petty officer to the door where he gave a mild bow of his head. "The Captain awaits, not impatiently I'm sure as that would be illogical. I leave you to him." The human officer gave a grin at his own little joke and headed off the bridge. T'shalaith wondered if he lived in this humor-filled world as a defense mechanism or if the man was really deluded as to his humor. There wasn’t time to consider further as the door opened, and she stepped into the quarters of her captain. She took the position in front of his desk as she spoke, “Captain Sekal, Ensign junior grade T'shalaith reporting for the position of Assistant Chief Science Officer. My transfer assignment from the USS Hades.” She handed the PADD with her details and took a step back. (reply Hammons, Sekal, any) (posted by Aaron D) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 1- Bridge -- CO --Captain Sekal -- 0802) The Vulcan CO looked up as the chime to the Ready Room sounded. Ensign T'shalaith was due aboard and he had requested an escort for her to the bridge. The USS Hades had been recommissioned and upgraded and was one of the premier fighting vessels in the newly reformed fleet. The Prometheus class however was vastly different from any other vessel. Based on the foundation of the Intrepid class and its following Belleraphon upgrade this ship was a complete change from both the Prometheus class and the Tolliver. The Tolliver was a frigate which was what the Protector aspired to be. Once the Protector was completely updated it would be almost identical to the Tolliver. What were the main differences between the new and old Hades? Between the Protector and the Tolliver? Between the Illuminar and an Intrepid? Most notably the new crystal drive technology, upgraded offensive and defensive weaponry, a more than doubled power reserve along with a host of other improvements. And in the case of the Illuminar the inclusion of a living sentience within the computer system in the person of Luma'lenai. Anyone familiar with the basic space frame of an Intrepid/Belleraphon would have little issue finding their way among the corridors and rooms of Illuminar however at its heart and brain they would find little recognizable. And this class of vessel, while it was an object of the building program ongoing within StarFleet for a renewed push into the alpha quadrant was still very much within the minority. Admiral Saleke had notified him less than two hours earlier of the transfer. Upon finding out that Jaton Alyl was incapacitated it was a logical extrapolation that the Admiral, his father had made finding a suitable officer for the Illuminar a priority and being here in the system had decided upon one. While Illuminar had a number of scientists aboard it had few experienced officers in that department and for this class of ship experienced science officers were critical. He stood to his feet as the officer entered. “Captain Sekal, Ensign junior grade T'shalaith reporting for the position of Assistant Chief Science Officer. My transfer assignment from the USS Hades.” Sekal took the proffered padd and booted it up with his command code and bio signature. What he found within was ... interesting. He looked back at her and nodded. "Please take a seat Ensign." (Reply: T'shalaith) He placed the padd to the side. "You come highly recommended and your credentials are immaculate. Admiral Saleke made a logical choice." (Reply: T'Shalaith) "The Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Jaton Alyl is currently medically incapacitated and in a coma with no sure timetable for his recovery. Ensign Skashe Winters has taken over the administrative duties of the department in his absence however that is only temporary. As you are highly experienced I expect that you will be working closely with him until such time as you are familiar with the ship." (Reply: T'shalaith) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- Deck 1- Bridge -- ASCO T'shalaith -- 0803) Humans had a habit of associating all Vulcans together in a general group. General stereotypes of logic, lack of emotion, and other various tropes were the usual. There was always an element of truth in the generalizations. The truth was there was plenty of divisions to be found within the Vulcan race. T'shalaith was always wary of other Vulcans in the Federation as a rule. In the four years of Starfleet Academy, she’d met several of her race in classes and passing. She’d made friends with none. It had been by design, but the logical conclusion that had been reached by many was that she was very particular in her associations. This was true. She returned to that thought as her new commanding officer offered her a seat. A Vulcan captain was not unusual but T'shalaith had managed to avoid it. Like many things in her life, the intentionality of it was based on logic and rational argument and less of an emotional response or a fear action. "Please take a seat Ensign." She took the offered seat with a, “Thank you, Captain,” and took in the office view and her new commanding officer. He was taller than she was, and it interested her. He was outside of the normal expected physiological parameters for an average Vulcan male. She was sure there were genetic implications or even mutation possibilities within his body that would explain it. Perhaps a study could be made of it. She returned that idea to the back of her mind for later. She suspected her CO would require some trust before she clinically offered to complete tests on him. “I am looking forward to working with your crew, Captain Sekal.” She remained sitting straight in the chair, watching and waiting. "You come highly recommended and your credentials are immaculate. Admiral Saleke made a logical choice." An eyebrow raised, “It is an interesting change for me, captain. My primary function in past assignments has been within the medical operations field, but I am equally as suited to scientific studies. The opportunity to engage with the discipline could not be dismissed.” She paused and went on, “I was unable to access the current Science Department roster before this meeting. Can you assist in clarifying the structure?” "The Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Jaton Alyl is currently medically incapacitated and in a coma with no sure timetable for his recovery. Ensign Skashe Winters has taken over the administrative duties of the department in his absence however that is only temporary. As you are highly experienced I expect that you will be working closely with him until such time as you are familiar with the ship." The assistant science chief gave an affirmative nod, “It is an unusual ship in many ways. I look forward to understanding the dynamics of the vessel.” She took another pause, “I understand you completed your studies in the Vulcan Science Academy.” (reply Sekal) “I wonder if you retained any of your study materials related to your doctorate or masters?” She explained, “My interest within those fields is expanding and I find it helpful to continue the learning process when it comes to scientific studies.” (reply Sekal) The junior grade ensign shifted in her seat, “There is one more thing, captain.” She considered her words carefully, “You may have noticed in my file an association with a human named Teresa Jackson.” (reply Sekal) She allowed herself to nod, “It is...as the humans would say, a complicated mess, captain. I mention her as if our missions take us near where she is either currently assigned, or to be assigned in the future...I would like to request if time allows that I arrange a meeting with her.” (reply Sekal) T'shalaith raised an eyebrow, “I have come to understand the importance of meeting complicated matters in the flesh. I do not wish to bring the complication onboard and into the matters of practicing my duties and orders, sir.” She paused, then continued, “Humans often speak of putting...things...in boxes or a closet until they are ready to, as they say, handle it. Logic suggests the same path for my situation, sir.” (reply Sekal) NRPG: If you want to do more here, feel free. Otherwise… RPG: “Thank you, captain.” T'shalaith stood, “I will return to my quarters to finish as they say...settle in. Should I report to Ensign Skashe Winters or will he make contact?” (reply Sekal) She nodded, “I will do as you suggest, sir.” She stood and made her way to the door. She paused at the door and turned, “It is most agreeable that I was assigned here, Captain Sekal.” (reply Sekal) She gave a final nod and left his office. I look forward to understanding the dynamics of the vessel.” She took another pause, “I understand you completed your studies in the Vulcan Science Academy.” "Affirmative." He cocked his head a bit at the query. "Astrophysics and Interstellar Dynamics primarily which foundation I used for the research that went into this vessel and the new generation of ships." “I wonder if you retained any of your study materials related to your doctorate or masters? My interest within those fields is expanding and I find it helpful to continue the learning process when it comes to scientific studies.” An eyebrow cocked. "I did. I also brought with me a padd that contains the research I completed for my doctorate degree. It is currently theoretical however should I have opportunity I intend to follow up on it. StarFleet expansion and Command have left very little time in which to continue that path of scientific investigation. I will give you access to the study materials." “There is one more thing, captain.” She paused and appeared to be choosing her words carefully. “You may have noticed in my file an association with a human named Teresa Jackson.” "I noted it." he gave a slight nod. She returned the nod, “It is...as the humans would say, a complicated mess, captain. I mention her as if our missions take us near where she is either currently assigned, or to be assigned in the future...I would like to request if time allows that I arrange a meeting with her.” He shrugged. "It would be illogical to deny such a request. Should Illuminar happen to be in the area and available I will endeavor to facilitate such a meeting." T'shalaith seemed surprised at the acquiescence. “I have come to understand the importance of meeting complicated matters in the flesh. I do not wish to bring the complication onboard and into the matters of practicing my duties and orders, sir.” She paused for a moment before continuing. “Humans often speak of putting...things...in boxes or a closet until they are ready to, as they say, handle it. Logic suggests the same path for my situation, sir.” "Noted. Is there anything else?" (Reply: T'shalaith iyw) "Very well. You have the rest of the day to acquaint yourself with the ship and get set up in your quarters on deck three." “Thank you, captain.” T'shalaith stood, “I will return to my quarters to finish as they say...settle in. Should I report to Ensign Skashe Winters or will he make contact?” "Report to the bridge at 0800 tomorrow, this will give Ensign Winters an opportunity to arrange the department... ," he began, "... I will set up a meeting at 1600 with him and he will introduce you to the rest of your duties. If you have opportunity you may speak with him before that time. If there are no other questions you are dismissed." She gave a nod in reply. “I will do as you suggest, sir.” She paused before leaving. "It is most agreeable that I was assigned here, Captain Sekal.” He stood to his feet. "And to have you posted to the ship." He raised his right hand in salute. "Peace and Long Life Ensign T'shalaith. I anticipate your time here will be advantageous to my ship and crew." (Reply: T'shalaith iyw) He sat down and transferred her bio into the main computer then set the padd to the side. She would be able to find her quarters easily by querying the computer and there was always the possibility that the Lenai would take an interest in her. Luma after all was a very curious being, especially about Vulcans it seemed for obvious reasons. He placed his hand on the computer interface. ::Luma I have just had a new officer report aboard. Ensign T'shalaith. I recommend allowing her to settle into the ship before contacting her. She might find your presence here ... distracting at first.:: (Reply: Luma iyw.) NRPG: I obviously expect Luma to disregard that. I'm sure she will find the presence of a new Vulcan aboard.... fascinating. :P RPG: (Reply: Luma, T'shalaith iyw, any) (Posted by Charles G) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar -- T'shalaith’s Quarters -- Deck 3 -- ASCO T'shalaith -- 0830) She stood in her new quarters in darkness, eyes closed. The low hum of the ship rumbled underneath everything. An engineering instructor at Starfleet Academy had once told her that each starship had its own sound and that some engineers could tell a ship simply by hearing it. She had dismissed him outright, earning the annoyance of the rest of the “Basic Engineering 101” class. She wasn’t sure if that had affected her view of engineers, but she viewed them generally as emotional creatures too attached to their ships, and the unusual relationship they seemed to have with the vessels they served on and it was odd. She had found some Vulcan engineers similarly offensive and had even spent some of her early days reporting them to superiors when their emotions seemed to be taking control of their logical engineering work. What she did now was something she had taken to doing on each assignment. There were innumerable Vulcan mediation techniques and she continued to study them in an effort to perfect her own process. One that had helped her in the past was using the ambient noise of the ship to help set a baseline within her mind to bring her focus to a center. It had assisted her in ensuring her sleep cycles were regular and not interrupted by her ear’s irritation with the sounds of the ship she was on. There was something to be said for the power of sound in meditation. She had made a study or two of it in her time with the Vulcan Expeditionary Group. She delved deep into her inner consciousness using the hum to draw her mind towards a center point where she quietly tied her thoughts together. It took her thirty minutes. She opened her eyes and found the sound of the hum was now bringing a logical calm to her mind. The intention is that would help her as she worked to order her thoughts, ideas, reactions, and observations. It had worked before, and it would work again. The logic of the consistency of such a practice granted her the knowledge that she was still in control and her mind was still her own. Her mother had lost her connection to Logic and fled after her father died. It had not been pleasant to experience. She did not wish for such events to occur to her. “Computer, lights.” The room filled with a warm glow as she manually adjusted the temperature of the room to help her concentrate. She hung several items on the walls and placed her Vulcan Harp in the corner of the living space. She stared at it for a moment. It was the sole item she had kept from her home, and it had both a helpful and harmful effect on her thoughts. The music she was able to create helped her focus her thoughts, and direct any latent emotions that scattered under her psyche. In other ways, it was a jarring reminder of her father’s last days and her mother’s break with Logic. She furrowed her brows and sat down at her desk. She needed to work on familiarizing herself with the ship and the crew. She would be meeting with others in the science department soon, and the rest of the ship. As much as she detested working with others, she accepted it as a necessity of her continuing studies and scientific progress. Commander Dieter Gregory - 0930) Gregory sat down at his desk, tea in hand. It has been an eventful morning, that was for sure. The after action reports and preparation for the supplies coming on board today meant he had to skip PT this morning. Since the Captain had given him the day off, he's have time later to get a run in. Of course with the promotion, his duty shift was changing, so he's have to readjust his sleep schedule again, but he's have some time in the evenings to relax again. He had missed the down time with Diane and others, but tonight that would change. Time for a wetting down. He's call Diane later and get some invites sent out, but there needed to be a party. It wasn't every day you made Lieutenant Commander. Gregory paused on that. Lieutenant Commander. When he joined Star Fleet, his goal was to be involved in the next generation of starships. His interest in particle physics and warp drives still was strong as ever, but the Captain had put his trust and training into Gregory, so it looked like command was becoming more and more his true calling. He had lots to do still, and tactical was still his weakest area. That would come with time and study, or so he hoped. "Computer, begin recording. Second Officers Log. Stardate 2446.02.10. Today marks the arrival of the USS Robert Bush. It is hard to believe only a few days ago we suffered damage at the hands of the pirates and their new missiles. Fortunately our science and engineering teams solved those issues and our next encounter was much different. We still are down supplies, and those will be topped off shortly. " Gregory paused, "The surprise of the day was the promotion to second officer. I will be moving to beta shift with Commander Verin. I've recommended to the Captain for the Gamma shift. In the mean time, I have the day off, so I'll get caught up on paperwork and prepare for tomorrow. Of course, tonight, we'll celebrate." He paused again, "Computer, end recording." With that, he drained his tea, and laid down to catch some rest.
