She would fall asleep, but 10 minutes later, she would be awake again. This pattern was not good when embarking on a major mission in a few hours. She knew she had a little something in her go bag she could take for her next bedtime. Travel time to the station would be a few days. Quinna turned and saw Michael still asleep. She then slipped out of bed. Quinna quietly went into the main living area and ordered up her favorite blend of coffee. She then went to the shelf that had a lock box on it. The cabinet where she kept a small lock. The name was D. Gregory. She placed the box on the table with her coffee. She had to take a moment and enter the code. There in the box was a Bajorian locket that was given to her before her parents, before the USS Auberjonois disappeared from her life. She put the locket around her neck. After putting the box away, Quinna looked at a couple of family photos. “Preston,” She said to an empty room. She started to feel guilty about not telling him about the recent developments. He was so young when they disappeared. She wondered what he actually remembered. Quinna put the picture of Preston down and grabbed her coffee. She moved to a dark, quiet corner and slid her butt to the floor, and did something she had not allowed herself to do…Cry. At 0600, Quinna was startled when the computer sounded the wake-up alarm. Blinking a couple of times, she looked around and saw that everything was still dark and quiet. Apparently, she had fallen asleep. She stood and made her way to the couch. Everything was apparently quiet, but Michael was sure to show his face any minute. She did not want Michael to know she cried. She likes to keep those emotions to herself. They got the Hades CO on the booked and the three dimensional holographic image of her body appeared. The area around her elbow quickly highlighted in a light red glow. Mark looked at the readings and stepped back in near horror. “Sweet mother of…” He looked at Nurse M’ret and nodded, a prearranged signal. The Caitian tapped Merek with a hypospay and began to purr nearly imperceptibly. The purr was to help the patient stay calm and relieve some of the pain until the analgesic took effect. Mark looked at Dahr, “What happened to her Casian?” “Let’s just call it overzealous sparring and leave it at that,” Dahr replied ignoring the familiarity. Mark’s relationship with Casian’s wife gave him a little latitude. “Well,” Edwards said, “overzealousness has given Captain Merek a severely dislocated elbow, several torn ligaments, not to mention the micro fractures in the heads of her humerus and ulna.” He looked at Merek and said, “Hope you weren’t planning on using that arm for a while.” “Oh, yeah…” Merek breathed dripping with sarcasm,, “..don’t you know? Got a tennis match at twenty-hundred..” “You should probably consider canceling,” Edwards replied, matching her sarcasm. “Or consider playing left handed. Even after the repair your going to have to take it easy for a while.” “Yeah, I gathered…” she said as the medication began to take hold. “You know, last time I broke my arm it was a Caitian doctor that patched me up then too…” M’ret smiled a toothy grin, “We commme in handy, perrriodically.” She touched the back of her furry hand to Mereks cheek, soothingly. “How ya feelinnng dearrr?” “Less stabbing and shooting, more throbbing and pressure.” Keira said finally being able to breath without aggravating her arm. “Now that you're numb, Captain Merek,” Dahr chimed in, “you can tell a great deal about a person during a fight. And how they handle defeat. You were in an inescapable position, why would you not simply concede?” “Don’t like to lose.” Keira said, “don’t like giving up either.” Dahr raised an eyebrow, “There’s losing to a stronger opponent and there’s giving in to your fears. Getting injured, as you did, during a training exercise, to me anyway, doesn’t seem worth it. Save that mindset for when the fight has meaning.” “ I’m stubborn.” She managed to smile. “Call it a character flaw?” “I suppose so,” Dahr didn’t argue that point. “We all have ‘em.” “So, how’s it look?” Dahr shrugged, “During the war I once saw a tactical display explode taking half the arm of the tactical officer stationed there. I’d say you look better than that.” “Excuse me Captains,” Edwards cut between the two of them, “but some of us actually work here.” He’d brought a piece of equipment over the looked like a drill press, and placed it over the elbow joint. Then he turned his face to look at Merek. “This is heal the micro fractures in the bones first,” the doctor explained, switching it on. A red beam emitted from the device into the joint of the Amiral. “It shouldn’t take long. Then we’ll need to look at reattaching those torn tendons.” Then he looked at Dahr, “We’ll be at this a while, Casian. I’ll let you know when we’re done and you can continue the verbal beating then.” Dahr chuckled, “Ok Mark, I’ll leave you to it.” He put a hand on Merek’s good shoulder and said, “I’ll come back to see you later.” “Thank you.” Keira said, and then added, “ Can you call Kellis for me? Let her know. We took a room on the station, she’ll be worried when I don’t return immediately from my workout.” Casian recalled that Ako Kellis was a Bajoran civilian on board the Hades. Kiera had mentioned her at the dinner he had hosted for the Hades senior staff. “Absolutely,” Casian said. “She might be even more irritated with you than I am. Thod Vol has been bugging me for an introduction. Apparently he’s a fan.” Finally, he put a supportive hand on the captain’s shoulder and smiled. “I’ll try to break the news to her gently.” Keira only nodded as Dahr left sickbay and the doctor continued their work. It’s only been five minutes. Playful laughter and a high pitched squeak issued from the other bed room, Rayna and Venus were playing. ~It’s nothing.~ She kept telling herself as she got the shower ready, smell-good soap, wash cloth and body towel folded on the lip of the tub, ready for when Keira walked through the door. =^=Captain Dahr to Ako Kellis.=^= “This is Kellis, what can I do for you, Captain?” the Bajoran swallowed hard. =^=Ms. Ako, I just left Captain Merek in our medical center and she wanted me to let you know where she was.=^=. Casian could hear the draw of her breath. =^=She is alright, although she managed to get herself injured while sparring… an opponent.=^= “Oh, my..” her thoughts were swimming in a mire of worry and guilt she wasn’t quite sure she’d earned. ~Focus. If you’re to be a Captain’s wife someday she’ll need your strength.~ She chastised herself before continuing, “are there visiting hours?” Casian was impressed how composed she sounded. He knew how Roxanne would have been. Wanted to break his other arm. =^=For the moment Keira in surgery having her arm repaired, but I’m certain she’ll be done soon. Then it’s up to Doctor Edwards when you can visit. But if you have trouble with him just let me know. I’m pretty sure I can help out.=^= “Thank you so much. I should be heading toward the infirmary soon, Kellis out,” she said before closing the line. There was a lot to prepare before she left their guest quarters. “Computer, activate nanny hologram.” (Starbase Freedom - Level 11 - Medical Plaza - Emergency Department - Captain Keira Merek, Ako Kellis, Major Sean Masters, V.Adm. T’Larah Sullivan - 1850) Her short legs scurried into the medical facility on station. She swiped a hot tear off of her cheek while moving a lock of brown hair away from her face. She saw a well muscled man in what seemed like house clothes and a hastily donned jacket that somehow looked familiar. The curiosity of where she’d thought she’d seen him before was enough to temporarily keep her mind off of why she was actually here. Accompanying him in the waiting area was a woman, Vulcanoid wearing what looked like a black short robe with writing on it that she was not familiar with. Kellis stood there fidgeting waiting to be addressed. Since the other pair that seemed oddly familiar but not intimate had arrived slightly before her, she dropped back into an impromptu queue. “Oh, we seem to have a few patients showing up.” the receptionist chirped. She started questions to feed to the Triage Officer. She saw some bruising and swelling on the female Vulcan’s left cheek, she was accompanied by a larger man who seemed in not a good mood. She frowned and started making notes on her PADD. Turning to the Vulcan, concern in her voice, “Ma’am, can you accompany me so we can talk in private?” Due to her years in security, T’Larah immediately picked up on what the receptionist was attempting to do. “No worries, this is not a domestic assault, despite what it appears to be.” The receptionist’s surprise was noticeable, she had to switch gears, it caught her off guard. “I…errr then how?” “Sparring match. Elbow strike to the face.” T’Larah said plainly, just facts. Kellis caught that.~Sparring match?~ “I’ll be sure to let the triage officer know…” the woman said. “And you ma’am?” the Receptionist pointed toward the Bajoran woman. “I’m an emergency contact. Captain Dahr contacted me.” Kellis said quietly, desperately holding something in. “Who?” The receptionist asked. “Captain Dahr? He’s in charge of the station. Haven’t met him, sounds like a nice man.” Kellis dodged. The clerk chuckled nervously, “No, who are you here to see?” “Merek is the name.” “I’ll let them know in the back.” the clerk said, then turned to T’Larah, “ and the triage officer will be with you as soon as they’re available.” The Admiral nodded, then her and Masters sat down. “So…you said sparring match.” Kellis said calmly, while sitting down. “Got a bunch of sparring matches happening on the station? Tournament going on?” “No tournaments, as far as I knew it was the only sparring match.” T’Larah answered quickly. Sean’s eyebrow arced at the seemingly innocuous but oddly specific questions that the lady asked, but said nothing. “So, you’re the one who assaulted my girlfriend.” Kellis growled through gritted teeth, hot liquid streaming down both sides of her face, red as a Veddic’s robes. Suddenly she was standing less than a meter in front of the Admiral and her son. Sean now immediately recognized where he remembered her from, “Oh, shit.” “HOW DARE YOU!” the small woman bellowed, in defiance of her size it filled the room. The receptionist’s eyes were the size of a pair of small moons while she hit a panic button under her station. (Reply Security or Medical) T’Larah was dumbfounded by the sudden explosion of tenacity. “So, you just SIT like a bump on a log while SHE’s getting surgery?” Kellis was somehow getting angrier. Her fists were white-knuckled by her side. (Reply Security, Medical or Any) (Posted by Todd with special guest appearance Al) -- Todd Holladay SGT, IA ANG (Ret) " It's made of our shit, you know. There had been less traffic through the wormhole over the past decade as the fall of the Federation made exploration of the Gamma quadrant less of a priority. And, of course, the Bajorans’ own withdrawal from the Federation made use of the wormhole even more prohibitive. Which was all fine with Nerys as it allowed him to pursue his own interests in the faith of his people and the Sisco. He often thought of how odd it was for him to sit in the same command center as Benjamin Sisco and his own grandmother, Kira. She’d passed on much to her grandson, including her faith and her tenacity. He always strove to make her proud of him and live up to the reputations of his predecessors. In his past twenty-five years, there had only been one dark mark on his record. He looked out at the starfield around the base, shaking his head. Odd how he hadn’t thought of that in a couple of years. “Colonel, there’s some unusual activity in the wormhole,” came the call from the science station. He turned his attention to the main view screen as the wormhole opened. A ship suddenly emerged. “What’s so strange about that?” he asked. “Sir, we have no record of a ship entering the wormhole from the Gamma quadrant.” Gahnt looked stunned. “What?” The sensors beeped, getting everyone’s attention. “The ship! It’s the Auberjonois.” Gahnt repeated, “What?” “It’s the Auberjonois, Colonel… but… There are no lifesigns on board.” “Wait, the ship’s powering up,” came a call from tactical. “It’s going to warp.” “Track it,” Nerys ordered, moving over to the tactical station. “It’s disappearing into the Denorios Belt,” the tactical officer replied. Gahnt stepped back and sighed. There was no sure way to track it in there. Even with the new technology they had distortion from the neutrino disturbances was too great. And he wouldn’t send a ship in there unless he had to. Too many ships had been lost already. No, not for an unmanned ship. “The ship did send a message before it entered the belt, “Colonel,” the operations officer reported. Gahnt turned, “To whom?” “Unknown.” “Send a message to Mars with all the data you were able to retrieve. Let me know when they reply.” (reply none) (posted by Al Muir) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Continuity be damned. RPG: Mission: Sequestered Day: 1 Stardate: 2446.09.03 (Starbase Freedom - Deck 11 - Medical Center - Emergency Department - Head Nurse - Lt Sally Brown- 1855) Sally wasn’t the Bolian head nurses actual name. Apparently it was given to her as a joke as it was the closest thing to her Bolian name that people were able to say easily, so she just went with it. Now, years later, it had just become her “common law” name. When she had heard the kerfluff in the waiting room she had gone out to deal with whatever issue had arrived in the E.D.. She found three women facing off at each other. One look pissed off, one looked as though she may be a patient and the third seemed to be a security lieutenant who appeared to be a bit lost. The tall Vulcan woman was speaking to the other two and the situation seemed to have already been disarmed. “See, we’re all fine now,” the Vulcan said calmly. “Well I’m glad to hear that,” Sally said in her typical cheerful voice. “I was afraid I was going to have to come out here and subdue the lot of you. May I remind you all that you are in a hospital.” (reply any, if you wish) She turned to the security officer and said, “Now, Lieutenant, since the raucous is over I do not believe you’re needed here, unless you’re injured.” (reply Green) Then she turned to the pretty brunette, and said, “And you, sweetie, how can I help you?” (reply Ako) “Captain Merek is still in surgery,” Sally explained. “I’ll let Dr. Edwards know you’re here and he’ll come out to see you when he’s done.” Finally she turned to Vulcan, “Vice-Admiral, that looks like a nasty bruise.” She refrained from reaching out with her hand knowing how Vulcans were about being touched, but pulled out her probe and scanned the area. “Let’s get you back into exam room 1 and I can treat that and make sure there’s nothing more.” (reply Sullivan) (reply Green, Ako, Sullivan) (posted by Al Muir) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... She sat on the couch, reading a book she had been meaning to finish while she was still in the Illumnar. Life on the station is getting routine. The only thing she was missing was a rotation in sickbay. She never knew how much she missed practicing medicine. She really needed to talk to the CMO about getting a shift or two. As Quinna opened her book, a picture fell out. She picked it up and took a look at it. Her brother is with her niece and nephew. She smiled. She knew her parents would have loved them. Quinna started thinking about her parents. What would they have thought about the family today? What would they have thought about Michael? She wondered if Mom and Dad had stayed, would Grandma still be alive? Quinna’s book fell as she heard the distinctive chirping of a message. Leaning over, she picked up the book, thinking she would ignore the message. After all, she was on some much-needed downtime. The problem is that Quinna could not let it be. Something told her to open it. Tossing the book on the table in front of her, she crossed the room to her terminal. As she sat, the alarm went off in her kitchen. The smell of her baked Ziti was a great invasion of the room. She moved and turned off the oven and the alarm, indicating that it was complete. She pulled it out of the oven. What she needed was to let it sit before she could have some; however, she figured a forkful might be hot but worth it, even though something told her that Michael would not be happy if she ate without him, but she was getting hungry. Again, the chirping of a message caught her attention. Quinna dropped the fork before she ate it and went back to the terminal. She sat with ease and noticed that there were 4 messages. Her brother sent one along with a message from Dr. Jacobson from the USS Sojourn. The last two, however, caused Quinna to tremble. Even though Quinna has not experienced any ghosts, two of them popped up in her inbox. She downloaded the messages, then she read them. “Oh My God!” Quinna exclaimed into an empty room. She scooped up the PADD on which she downloaded the messages and ran out of her quarters. She had no boots on, and her uniform tunic still lay sprawled across the chair to the right of the couch. At this point, Quinna was on a one-track mind. (Starbase Freedom - Level 3 - CO Quarters - XO Commander Quinna Solice and CO Captain Casian Dahr - 1904 ) Quinna stood outside the door waiting for Captain Dahr. She read the messages again, hoping that what she was reading was real. When the door opened, Quinna stood straight, still not realizing that she was not in complete uniform. “Sir, I need a huge favor.” Casian blinked at his partially disrobed executive officer in shock. “Ummm… good evening, Commander? What, exactly, is the nature of said favor?” Quinna, too anxious to stand still, much less sit, looked at her Commanding Officer. “Sir, approximately 10 minutes ago. The message has been from a ship that has been missing for 25 years. Almost 25 years to the day. The USS Auberjonois. As you know, the ship went into the Bajorian wormhole after all the civil population 25 years ago. The messages came from that ship 10 minutes ago. Auberjonois is back.” Quinna, for once, showed passion in her voice. She had always tried to conduct herself with complete professionalism. It took Casian a moment to make sense of the series of fragmented sentences. Then, when it all fell into place, he stepped aside and spoke in a soft, understanding voice. “Quinna, come inside. Tell me what you need.” Quinna came inside but continued to pace. “Sir, I would like to take leave, I am owed, and a shuttle and locate ho…the Auberjonios. The ship sent me the message where it is. I recognize the area in the message. It exited the wormhole and is located in the Denorios Belt.” Casian managed to get hold of Solice’s shoulders to hold her still. Then he moved her over to a sofa and got her seated. “Ok, slow down and relax,” he said easily. “Let me get this straight. You received a message from the Auberjonois. The same ship? Are you sure?” “The message contained not only the ship’s prefix code and my father’s code. He was the CMO and 3rd officer at the time of their disappearance.”. “And now you need a leave to go and investigate?” he summarized her request. “I have to. It’s my parents. My Family. It is … several families.” He shook his head, “I’m not worried about what you are ‘owed’, Commander. Of course, you have my leave. But a shuttle is out of the question when we have a Starship docked, and the Hades can get you there in hours, compared to the days it would take in a shuttle. Let me talk to Captain Merek.” “Thank you, Sir, you don’t know how much I appreciate it,” Quinna said. Quinna was ready to leave and pack her bag.” “Also, I have a stipulation,” the captain added. “You cannot go alone. I want you to take a security detail. I think Lt. Green should be enough. I might send along an engineer, just in case. Perhaps Ms. Adams. Is that acceptable?” “That is completely acceptable.” Quinna was still elated. “In that case,” Dahr said, standing up, “you'd better get packed. As of this moment, you are on leave. Good luck, Quinna. I hope you find your parents well.” Now that things were set, Quinna was able to get her head clearer. “Sir, I know interpersonal relationships and working together are sometimes a bad idea. I have a gut feeling that, as well as Weston hears, he will insist on coming. I would like to invite him to join as well, before he invites himself?” Dahr smiled and nodded, “Oddly enough, I was having the same feeling. Fortunately, his time is not mine, for the most part. If he wants to go, he’s welcome to do so. I’ll try not to have an intergalactic meltdown in both of your absences.” “Thank you.” Quinna turned to leave. Not only did she have to pack your bags and plan a meeting to discuss the upcoming mission, but she also had to (reply none) (Posted by Kris B and Al M.) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... She was making her lists, things to do and things to take. But the next on her list was to talk to Michael. She sought him out and found him. She stood there watching Michael before he noticed her. She liked to just watch him. This quiet moment gave her a moment to slow down. “Hey there. What is keeping you busy?” Michael could feel Quinna’s eyes on him, but he needed to finish with the report he was looking at or he ran the danger of putting it down and never looking at it again. Once he could complete that then he could, in all good conscience, never look at it again. The downside to being the deputy director. The upside, however, was watching him do this tedious task. “Busy,” he replied, “is not exactly what I’d call it. Occupied might be more accurate. Thanks for coming in and reminding me why I haven’t gouged my eyes out.” Then he stood up and moved over to hug her. “What brings you to the Bastille?” “Hey, we need to talk. Think I can take you from your work for a moment.” Quinna asked. Michael smiled. “For more than that, if you want. But why am I getting the impression this isn’t in pursuit of… physical desires.” Quinna crossed over to sit. “There is a mission. I want you to join.” Quinna said, looking at him. “This is a more personal mission, but I am taking a tea,m and I want you on it. Interested.” Michael sat on the edge of his desk and crossed his legs. “Interested? Intrigued is more like it. What did you have in mind?” “I guess I should tell you the specifics if you wish to go with me.” Quinna, realizing that Michael probably does not know what happened. This sounded a great deal more than a simple case or doing something dangerous. He put on his serious face and moved behind his desk. “Ok,” he said, you know I’m in. Fill me in.” “The USS Auberjonois, after being missing for 25 years, has emerged from the Bajorian Wormhole. We are going to go reclaim her.” Quinna had a brightness in her eyes. Quinna was leaving out the details of her parents. She knew that Michael knew about her missing parents “Auberjonois?” Michael’s voice showed his surprise. When they first met, Michael had told Quinna that he knew more about her parents’ fate than most. That was, to a degree, a true statement, considering nobody really knew what happened. “Your parents’ ship? Wow.” A million questions were running through his brain now, but he knew Quinna would tell him when she would tell him. Right now, he had to be there for her. “Ok. What’s the goal?” “Our goal will be to reclaim the ship and ascertain what happened? What was the mystery mission that led to a 25-year disappearance and everything else?” The mystery mission had been a topic of debate twenty-five years ago. So much debate that any file that mentioned it had suddenly become so heavily redacted that it would have taken mystical powers to uncover it. Or… the tenacity of a young SFI operative. He still didn’t know all, but he knew enough. “Who’s coming with us?” he asked. “Captain Dahr wants Ms. Green, Mr. Toks, and Ms. Wednesday to go with us.” Quinna started. Michael came around the desk as she talked and raised an intrigued eyebrow. “Interesting choices.” “The captain will get a hold of the Hades to transport us.” Quinna looked Michael in the eyes. “Looks like you are going on another derelict ship again. And you are going to be close to the little girl on the ship.” It really hit Quinna how similar this mission was to the previous mission, where they found little Leeza Pel. However, this time it was also quite different. Michael had managed not to think of Leeza Pel for a few weeks. Usually, it was a flash of a memory of the little girl who had become like a little sister to him. He quickly clouded the pain in his eyes, knowing the fate of his Leeze was the same as Quinna’s own daughter. He smiled and stepped inside her body space. “But, hopefully,” he replied, “we won’t spend a year in an alternate universe where everyone is trying to kill us. And this little girl won’t pour a plate of spaghetti in my lap or mine my chairs with chocolate cake.” His face moved inches from Quinna’s as he said, “Or she may have to get a spankin’ .” “There will be no spanking of your XO, Mister,” Quinna then winked, “While on this mission.” Michael shook his head, “Ah, the foibles of being on a mission. At least I’ll have something to look forward to after.” Quinna shook her head and stood. I have a whole list of to-dos.” Quinna said. “It feels weird. I may get all the answers I have been wanting for a long time.” Michael pulled her in for a supportive hug. “I hope you do, my love. I hope you do.” (Post by Kris B. and Al M.) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He sat down at the desk and activated the holographic computer display. He tapped in a series of commands and opened a comm signal. “This is Captain Casian Dahr from Starbase Freedom. I need to speak with Captain Merek.” =^=Please hold, Captain Dahr.=^= There was a slight pause and then the interface came to life with the image of Merek. =^=Good evening.=^= Keira said. =^=To what do I owe the pleasure?=^= “Captain,” Dahr nodded, “how’s the arm?” =^= Got full range of motion back. Still a little stiff, but docs cleared me for physical training on my own, but warned that I need to take it easy. =^= “I need a favor,” Dahr finally said. “Something has come up at DS9 and I need to get a small team there ASAP. And since you’re in the neighborhood, I was hoping I could impose myself on you.” =^= Team out to do, what exactly? =^= “To be honest, Keira, I’m not certain what it is,” Dahr admitted. “All I know is that Solice needs to get there, and you’ve got the fastest ship in the quadrant. What do you say?” =^= How fast?=^= Keira offered, =^= With two Captains asking we might be able to persuade the Brass to let us call this an emergency and use the Coaxial drive, then I can get your team there in minutes.=^= “Might give you a chance to stretch your warp nacelles,” Dahr said, “but strictly speaking, I’m not sure the brass is aware of Quinna’s involvement. I’m not really sure where they are in this matter. We are… on the head of this nail.” =^= Either way, I’m at your or should I say Doctor Solace’s disposal. Besides I owe her one anyway from our Ensign days. =^= Dahr wasn’t really certain what debt Merek owed his XO, perhaps it would be something from him to check out while they are gone. “Excellent,” he said with a smile. “Can you be here and ready to leave by 0800?” =^= Yes, we have some auxiliary craft on maneuvers, they should be back by 2100. Which would leave us plenty of time for recovery and reset. We’ll be ready by 0800 =^= “Excellent,” he smiled feeling the camaraderie returning with the ships CO that he’d only allowed himself to feel with a few people on Freedom. He was finally starting to feel like he was home again in the fleet. “Thanks Keira. See you soon. Freedom out.” The screen went blank and he went in motion. The Bajoran colonel smiled. =^=Captain Dahr. Must say I’m a bit surprised to hear from you.=^= Dahr smiled, “Colonel, yeah, were you expecting hear from someone else?” =^=I was, in fact. We have something a brewing round here.=^= “Something to do with the Auberjonois?” Casian asked. There was an extended pause and Nerys’ face Showed his genuine shock. =^=How did you…=^= Dahr chuckled, "I have an inside source. Its actually why I called you you, to confirm, first of all what has actually happened, and second to give you a heads up.” =^=Well, if your source told you that the Auberjonois has reemerged from the wormhole after twenty-five years, then they are correct.=^=. Dahr nodded. =^=And the heads up?=^= “The heads up is that my XO, Commanded Solice, will be heading out that way with a small team to find out what’s going on with the ship,” he said. Narys made a puzzled face. =^= How is that possible? I mean, it’s not common knowledge. The ship emerged a little over a half hour ago and I barely food off the horn with command.=^= “I can’t tell you, Colonel,” Casian said, “but apparently she was contacted by the ship. At least that’s what she told me. I know, it sounds a little eerie.” Gahnt looked thoughtful for a moment. =^=Solice…Solice?=^=. He picked up a PADD and nodded. =^=I thought the name sounded familiar. There was a married couple in the crew of the Auberjonois names Solice. And they left a couple of little ones on the station. As I recall they went to live with a family member on Earth.=^= “That would be Commander Solice. She has a vested interest in this mission.” =^=I can imagine. I’ll need to get confirmation from command. But I’ll halp as much as I can.=^= “Any idea where the ship is now?” Casian asked. =^=Sensors have the Auberjonois entering the Denorios Belt after exiting the wormhole. We really haven’t been able to get a good lock on it since then. The tachyon eddies have been stronger lately.=^= “Is there anything you can tell me before I send my team into the briar patch?” =^=Only that our initial scans before the ship went to warp showed no signs of life on board the ship. I have people going through the scan data more thoroughly as we speak. I might have more information later.=^=. Dahr nodded, “Sounds good. Thanks for the time.” =^=Thank you for the heads up. DS9 out.=^= The screen went blank and then disappeared. Casian contemplated the conversation. Then he downloaded the content and forwarded it to Quinna. There hadn’t been much but he remembered an old colleague who once postulated, “A man’s survival could depend on a mere scrap of information.” And this qualified as a scrap. After all, she had just left him. He spent the last twenty minutes putting together his, as Quinna would call it, little bag of tricks. He changed into his “working clothes”, consisting of black slacks, a black t-shirt, and his black jacket. Looking at himself in the full length mirror he frowned. He touched the fabric of the jacket as though it was an old lover. “Been too long, my friend,” he said to himself. Then he picked up the thin pouch and put it around his waist, pulling the shirt over it making it near invisible. He picked up the final item from his desk too and slipped it into the hidden pocket of the jacket. His gold card. Finally feeling whole, Michael picked up his go bag and headed out the door. That reminded him that he needed to be sure that he made sure to have his coffee bean supply when they left. Please welcome Rob back, hopefully we'll get to add him formally soon. RPG: Mission: Sequestered Day: 1 Stardate: 2446.09.03 (USS Hades - Nine and Dine - CMO Lt. Dural Methor DrPH & Engineer Lt. JG Emar -2004) It was rather late. Dural usually had dined earlier than this, but he had to stay a little later than usual cataloguing all the patient transfers, finishing paperwork. Dotting all the I’s and crossing all the T’s. He decided a meal out on the ship would be an experience that he would like to start, on the eve before “shoving off”. As they were due to leave tomorrow at 0800, doing so on the ship would be best. The server brought his order a flight of Taspar Eggs, all lined up in a frame. He brought it with the traditional rapping wand used to crack the shell. “Enjoy, Doctor!” the server said with a smile. Dural returned the gesture and looked down at his meal. Emar Derok, a male Cardassian who had just been assigned to the Hades for just about 26 hours as a member of the engineering team who had transferred from Starbase Freedom, walked into Nine and Dine. A rather interesting name, Emar thought. He hadn't been there before and with nothing else to do he decided to wander the ship. One of the first things he noticed with ice grey eyes was another Cardassian sitting at the bar and eating a meal. It had been almost 2 years since Emar had seen another Cardassian with his own two eyes. ~ That must be the Doctor that Ensign Remy had mentioned early.~ Emar approached the bar and sat down a couple spots away from the other Cardassian. “ Good Evening Lieutenant.” Emar said as he sat. “ You don't think they'd be able to make a decent Zabu Stew around here ?” Asked with a chuckle to his voice, not being serious as Zabu Stew wasn't exactly something they would serve on a starfleet vessel. “Greetings,” Dural said with a smile. “The replicators don't quite do a real Zabu justice.” “ I suppose I'll get a cheeseburger and fries.” Emar said with a laugh and typed his order on the interface on the bar's surface. Before him appeared the requested meal, arriving via the bars built in replicator option. “Sampling the local cuisine?” Dural asked while rapping on an eggshell precisely cracking it with practiced ease. “ I've gotten used to having more bland menu options since coming to earth and joining starfleet. Although there is a bar on Trill that serves real and authentic Kanar Red Blend, very refreshing.” “Which establishment? It's been two years since I've stepped foot on Trill Prime…” memories of the jaunt to Trill aboard the Mystique flooded back but the Doctor dismissed them, “Where are my manners? I'm Dural, and you are?” “Emar, Emar Derok. The place on Trill is called The Sa'Sani Bar. Owned and operated by a rather round Bolian man who specializes in exotic imports of authentic alcohols and trinkets.” “Nice to meet you Emar.” Dural said with a smile. “I’ll have to check out that establisment the next time we’re in the area.” He motioned to the stool next to him, “ please sit.” “ I mean this with absolutely no offense intended, but it is odd seeing another Cardassian face in a starfleet uniform. I've heard there are only 9 of us in the whole of Starfleet.” Emar laughed and took a bite of his burger. “Nine?” Dural said with surprise. “I’m intrigued that there's more than one. When I joined I was the first.” “ Graduating Class of this year had five alone, I was one of 2 last year. The others are Enlisted.” Emar explained. “ An Ensign told me earlier that there was another Cardassian aboard, a Doctor.” “I’m the CMO of this ship. Until I’m fired or they find someone better,” Dural said with a smirk. “Which department are you gracing on our fine vessel?” “ Engineering, fixer of broken things and innovator of the future, or so the Academy told us.” He laughed. “Engineering.” Dural said, scooping out a bite of cooked egg, and swallowed. “Your boss will be Lieutenant Alouron, can’t miss her.” “ Ah yes, she was busy today so I didn't get a chance to meet with her, I've heard she's quite the individual. My primary interest is the Captain of course, she's an Engineer as well and from what I've read of her work she's one hell of an engineer, hopefully she isn't the sort to stand over someone's shoulder while they reconfigure the focus emitter housing on a transporter pad.” Emar chuckled a bit. “Ha, if one thing could be said of Captain Merek, she is not a micro manager.” Dural explained, pointing the utensil for emphasis. “Worked with her since we both left the Mars facility. If you show that you're competent at your job, she'll give you the space to do it.” “ That's a relief.” Emar said and took another bite of his burger and chewed a bit. “ I have a Kotra board that was gifted to my grandfather by Gul Kaltek, or something like that as an anniversary gift. It has been some a while since I've enjoyed an honest match.” Emar said, extending the offer for Dural to play. “It's been so long.” Dural said, reminiscing about the gameboard the orphanage matron had brought home one day. They knew she had salvaged it from somewhere . Pieces were missing, they'd replaced those with pebbles and then argue over exactly which pieces were replaced. “Last game I had that was a challenge was in my days in the Cardassian military.” “ I've taught several friends to play over the years, but there is nothing like playing another Cardassian. No offense to others but it's easier to play someone who has an almost innate sense of the concept.” Emar said with a laugh. In truth Emar was excited to be serving on a ship with another Cardassian. Emar had no issues with other races and found being around them to be an enriching experience but sometimes it just felt good to be around other Cardassians. “I've gone back home a few times, since joining Starfleet, there is nothing like spending time with one's people to get centered again.” Dural admitted. “ I know the feeling.” Emar himself was born and raised on Bajor around fewer than 30 Cardassians at any given time. “You may want to adjust your quarters somewhat. You know how dreadfully cold and uncomfortable Starfleet standard environmental settings can be. Makes me sluggish.” “ I had the same issue on Freedom however the Tailor on board provided me with a Thermoregulating undergarment called a Fazul that fits snuggly under my uniform. If you have time I suggest you go see him, tell him I sent you.” Emar suggested and took the last bite of his burger. “I shall look into it when I have some free on duty hours.” Dural promised taking another swallow of his meal. “ Well it has been great talking with you Dural, im going to head to main engineering and watch them cycle the plasma, something I've been told is quite the sight.” Emar said. “I hope you enjoy yourself and have a lovely evening.” Dural smiled. “ Have a good evening.” Emar said and gently bowed his head to Dural as he stood then walked away, but turned back. “ The Tailor's name is Jez by the way.” He said with a snap of his fingers and walked off. It seemed pretty straightforward, but she had the feeling that the commander was holding something back. Perhaps it was just her hypersensitivity to the moods of others. The trouble with being a Wiccan. “Ms Adams,” Solice spoke to her, “I need you to make your way to Engineering. Get an assessment of the Engineering systems. Mr. Toks, I want you to work with her to get Engineering secured.” Wednesday looked over at the green tinged being across from her and nodded to him. “Yes ma’am,” she replied, returning her eyes to the XO. In her head she was thinking, ~Just me and that guy to run the whole of engineering? That should be fun. I wonder if that make Captain Scott’s list of impossible things to accomplish.~ She wished that Bohb hadn’t left with the Illumnar. She could use his advice right now. She looked at her PADD and noted the small note that she had etched into it. WWBD. What would Bohb do? Then she knew what to do and started to download the schematics of the Auberjonois. He could appreciate her keeping some details to herself. However he would advise later, in private, that it would be prudent to let them in on some of the details. Some details he only knew because of his past research into the ship's initial loss when he was a fledgling SFI operative. The information was now deeply buried in security codes. “Mr. Weston,” Quinna addressed him a in an official capacity, “we will need access to the bridge. You and I will be taking care of that.” The last time Michael had a hand at accessing a derelict bridge he wound up in an alternate universe for a year, which passed in less than a week for Quinna. “You can count on me,” he replied, trying to cover his feeling of impending doom. “What do you think we’ll need?” “I anticipate we would need a power source and some individual console power sources,” she said. “I am also thinking we would need some rations and some of your own personal tools that you feel that we need. Am I missing anything?” He winked at her, “The tools are already packed. Perhaps Ms. Green can help me with provisions. I would think only a couple of days. I’m pretty confident that Wednesday can get the replicators up and running by then, if needed.” Wednesday blushed at the compliment, “It probably won’t take that long, but I’ll have to see what the situation is first before I can make any hard promises.” “Beyond that I think all we’re missing is a full crew to run the ship.” (reply Solice, Toms. Her arm was still sore from the surgery. "You up?" Kellis asked softly. "Yeah." came Keira's groggy answer barely audible over the pleasant until you have to wake up to it tone that was the alarm. "Alarm off." Kellis snapped at the infernal machine. Her surroundings came into focus as she woke up Keira noticed Kellis was wedged behind her back and the bed holding her tightly. "Why am I like this?" Keira asked as it wasn't the position they normally woke up in. "You were tossing and turning last night. Going over stuff in your head I don't know, but you kept banging your arm into things. So I shoved my shoulder under your back, kept your arm off the bed and held on so you wouldn't move around so much." Kellis explained as Keira swung her legs over the side of the bed. "Did it work?" Keira asked genuinely curious. "Seemed to," Kellis answered. "You slept the rest of the night." "Thank you." Keira said genuinely. She began cautiously moving her arm joints. The Bajoran shrugged. "I hate seeing you in pain. Speaking of, station doctor gave you a hypo, when is your next dose due?" "About right now." Keira admitted. "I'll get that ready, you go wake up Rayna," was suggested. "Shirt first, then Rayna." Keira said. "Hmmm shirt, hypo then rambunctious ball of bottled lightning?" she countered. "Alright." Keira said and a different tone interrupted them. "Who would call at this hour?" the brunette woman asked. "Shirt, then call, final answer." Keira said. The Bajoran nodded and grabbed a uniform undershirt of the rack. She helped her get the shirt on over damaged, but recently repaired and stiff tissues. The tone chimed again. The Bajoran woman grabbed a hair tie, putting it in her mouth and gathered up the Captain's straw colored hair and slipped the elastic tie on. The Romulan woman straightened up and faced the comm panel on the desk. "Accept call." [Voice print verification required.] "Keira Valora Merek, Captain USS Hades." Keira said calmly and evenly her full known name. [Voice print recognized.] The UFP seal was replaced with the Face of Admiral Sullivan already in full uniform. "Greetings, Captain." "You...." the Bajoran hissed, her eyes narrowed. Keira shot her girlfriend a look. She responded, "I guess I'll wake up Rayna..." and stormed off. "What can I do for you, Admiral?" Keira said; she had considered last night's incident closed. The Admiral's practiced eye looked past yesterday's opponent to the wall behind her, in the visible field. =^=What is that decoration?=^= Keira didn't even look behind her, she knew what the Admiral was referring to. The barely contained ball of energy thundered across the living space "Keira!" "Hey Rayna!" Keira said as the girl arrived by her side. "Are you hurt?" the little raven haired girl said with equal parts ignorance and innocence. "A little, but I'll get better. The doctors helped fix me." Keira explained. "You never came home last night." she said meekly. "We were supposed to do something, weren't we?" Keira said. "Uh-huh." Rayna said. "We'll do something after my shift." Keira promised. "But we're due to get underway today, so it might be a little later than usual." "Now?" Rayna half asked half demanded. "Can't now..." Keira started to explain. Then the hiss of the hypospray was heard as Kellis pressed the hypo to the Blonde woman's shoulder muscle. Rayna started giggling. "Got you!" Keira in mocked alarm and shock, "You conspired against your Captain!" "Yup, pure mutiny, that was." Kellis said in a playful tone. Rayna was still giggling. "Seriously, though.." Keira said with a frown "I have a meeting and then we're leaving and everyone has to be at their posts." "Promise?" Rayna asked. "As much as I can," Keira said. "Why don't you go to the replicator and grab some breakfast? Whatever you want." "Coffee for you?" Kellis asked. "Raktajino, strong. I'll need it." Keira answered. She keyed up the messaging subroutines and sent messages to Ire, Jayc, Dogan, Dural and Masters for the meeting in the conference room at zero eight hundred. She then pressed send. With that accomplished she could spend an hour with her chosen family before she had to run off to work. Wearing full uniform, with the addition of a medical brace for her arm while on duty for the next couple of days. It was weird doing things with her non-dominant left arm that she was used to doing with her right. She was given the choice of a medical forcefield or archaic straps, cloth and pads, she chose the latter. Partially for an engineering reason, if some stellar phenomenon took out powered objects ship wide it wouldn't affect her, also partially because Keira had always felt a connection to the past, growing up on a frontier colony sometimes had that effect on people. She had however gotten several stolen glances on the bridge strapped into a big bulky medical device. They tried hiding it but she caught it anyway. She elected not to say anything. She waited for the others to arrive, and the presumed nth degree she and her crew was going to get from the head of Internal Affairs. Dural Methor, MCO, Major Sean Masters - 0807) The Majority of the people had made it in with Dural and Masters squeaking in just before the zero-eight deadline. The tension was palpable, quiet until just before the chronometer would change, the Admiral walked in. "This looks like everyone." the Admiral began, sensing that questions hung in the air she spoke. "I've reviewed your last mission. Intrigued by the specimen that you brought in." She indicated to Lt. Cmdr Jayc. "A creature with unsettling abilities and that whose individual existance was not on any official log, database or data repository. Quite frankly it stank to Sha Ka Ree. With my clearance I should be able to find *something.* I dug deeper. Thinking that perhaps something or someone untoward was happening. I looped in an old friend from Starfleet Security and it was agreed that since I was already 'on the ground' I would begin an investigation. The one common denominator was your crew, which seemed like a reasonable place to start." Keira opened her mouth to speak, face hinted at an indignation, but Sullivan held up a finger. "I'd advise against that, Captain." Keira held her tongue for now, waiting to see how this played out. "I reviewed the logs, established a reasonable person standard with another crew I had on hand, my next move was to determine motives and if there were any inconsistencies indicative of coercion, or any clandestine activities. I interviewed your officers, and with the exception of one initially obstinate one, were all cooperative. I had scheduled a review of your computer core if those interviews were inconsistent, but in my judgement that was unnecessary." "So my crew and I are guilty?" Keira softly interjected. "Or is it just me you are after?" "Far from it, Captain, your crew shouldn't be condemned, they could be commended." She tapped her combadge, "Number one, send over package Alpha." A stack of small wooden boxes materialized on the table. The Admiral grabbed the top one. "Commander Williams. For your leadership of the away team tasked with the successful retrieval of Research Outpost Forty-Seven survivors it is by my hand on this stardate you are here by awarded the Starfleet Achievement Medal." She fixed the full medal retrieved from the box, displayed leveled two centimeters below his combage. She then nodded. "Congratulations Commander." (Reply Ire) "Lieutenant Commander Jayc, your communication with the cosmozoan species revealed an intelligence that it was clear Starfleet had underestimated them. With that fact in mind your actions qualify as diplomacy. You are here by awarded the Sarek Medal of Merit for establishing communication with newly recognized intelligent life, in keeping with the very core of starfleet mores and values." She fixed the medal, just as before two centimeters below Jayc's combadge. "Congratulations, Lieutenant Commander." (Reply Jayc) "Lieutenant Dogan, post." She said obtaining a third box. "Your actions in the rescue of the survivors of outpost forty-seven, using your strength and placing your body at risk for those same survivors is no mean feat. Therefore I am awarding you the Gold Lifesaving Medal." She fixed the medal, the same as before. "Congratulations, Lieutenant." (Reply Dogan) The Admiral obtained the next box and waited for the Brikar to return to his previous position. "Major Masters, post." she said simply. The Marine snapped quickly to attention and moved quickly in a blink he was standing tall directly in front of the Admiral. "Major your use of your Drop ship as a power source was a brilliant piece of improvised engineering. You are hereby awarded the Cochrane Medal of Merit. Your quick thinking shored up the SIF of the station long enough for the survivors to be evacuated. Excellent work." As she affixed the Medal in the same place as all the others, she whispered simply "Your father and I are proud of you." For the briefest of moments as Sean was flooded with emotions that he usually kept buried, one of his eyes twitched, and he blinked. In that blink the discipline had reasserted itself. "Thank you ma'am." Sean moved out smartly, and found a place towards the back separate from the rest. "Doctor Methor. You're up." the Admiral stated. Dural lumbered carefully towards the front within the Admiral's reach. "Doctor I'm told in medical circles that what you experienced was called a *mass casualty event. *Is that true?" the Admiral questioned. "Yes, ma'am." Dural answered evenly. "From what I understand, mass casualty events are make or break events in the halls of medicine. They either make the medical staff better, more confident in their abilities or they do the opposite. You and your staff experienced one that lasted for several days as you returned to Starbase Freedom. You did so without a single loss of life. I hereby award you the Crusher Medal of Merit." she said while fixing the medal. "Furthermore your entire medical staff will be walking away with Commendations added to their files. "Congratulations, Doctor. To you and your staff." Dural bowed slightly, "You honor us, Admiral. Thank you." T'Larah reached for the final box. "The last award will go to Petty Officer First Class Tarol Aurin, who was injured severely in the line of duty. His courage and dedication to duty broke open the cause of the problem with the station, and he very nearly died. I believe he's earned the Ribbon of Sacrifice. I understand he is still convalescing?" Dural spoke up. "Yes, Admiral, he is still under the care of Starbase Freedom and their staff." "Very well, I will go visit him later today to award him. It will be better if she can calm things down reasonably but restraints may have to used. She really didn't understand disputes like this for in the great link everything is handled in one reasonable mind. She has seen disputes like this on DS9 and handled it reasonably. There is no room for emotion. She thought that maybe she and Vulcans viewed things similar in that regard. She entered the room. "Ok What is the problem?" Rolling her eyes was a human expression but she listened to the arguments blankly.. A human might respond with "Good Grief." "LT Raven Green reporting for transport Ma'am." The unknown was always a hard mission to prepare for.  She supposed the first objective upon beaming on the ship will be to check out the security department.  She would like help in securing the ship but expected that she would not get much.
