Stardate:2406.03.04 Starbase Valhalla, SFI Command Centre, SPC Mar'lana Dupree, 10.27) "After you." Fiona said as she gestured to Mar'lana. Mar'lana lead Fiona out as they left Dario's office. "I think I'm going to unpack and find out where I'm living for the time being." She said, "At 14.30 then." She said nodding her head to the psuedo-Vulcan. "I think I will do the same thing and do a little changing before we had back." Mar'lana acknowledged and then after Fiona set out she went also in search of her quarters. She wanted to change from being a vulcan to possibly a human. Stardate:2406.03.04 (Starbase Valhalla, SFI Command Centre, Lieutenant Marsland's Office, SPC Mar'lana, 1430) Mar'lana watched as Dario looked up as she and Fiona entered entered the room and sat themselves in front of him. "Welcome back, I hope you found all you needed to. Our quarters aren't exactly spacious but they do the job." Mar'lana listened intently as Dario explained the extraordinary events that he and the crew of Utpoia Planitia had been through over the last few months. Their time travel and subsequent integration back into Starfleet had been public knowledge. So far nothing surprised her of what he had to say, but, she could tell that there was something he was not telling them. After that Dario dismissed them with orders to take a good look around Starbase Valhalla for the rest of the afternoon. Stardate:2406.03.04 (Starbase Valhalla, SFI Command Centre - SPC Mar'lana Dupree, 2255) Mar'lana had just gotten to sleep and a needed sleep at that when all hell broke loose as klaxon began to sound and alert lights flushed their ominous red. She flew from her bed got dressed and within moments was in the Command Centre which was abuzz with activity. "Report!" called Dario as she heard him say when he entered the room just seconds before she and O'Connor entered a few strides behind him . "Someone's flown a freighter, laden with explosives by the look of things, full-on into Dock 6!" answered a somewhat elderly officer from his console. "On screen!" cried Dario She could not hide the shock of the incident from her face as she knew that many people in that area had just died. She had walked through there not long ago getting to know the area that would be her home base for a while. The viewscreen blinked into life to expose the gathered SFI crew to the horror that was unfolding. A massive shockwave was only just dissipating. Long moments passed as Dario spoke to them, but, finally he composed himself enough to start thinking again. "O'Connor, Dupree.. meeting in my office at 0930 tomorrow morning. Collect as much information as you can from here and analyse it. I, as well as the entire Federation, need some answers," stated Dario as he retreated to his office to contact SFIHQ. Mar'lana nodded and headed out with Fiona. Stardate:2406.03.05 (USS Firestorm - Bridge - ACMO Anderson - 0018) She had expected him to protest and for a moment it looked like he would. He must have thought more about it though as he then acquiesced and took a seat. He started to remove some weapons and his eyeglasses. Rain wondered why he wore such archaic prostheses in this day and age. All eye problems, even blindness, could now be treated to allow "sight" in some form. Basic myopia was easily repaired with a small adjustment made to the refractivity of the cornea. She assumed it was one of his eccentric idiosyncrasies, like his interest in older style weaponry and his insistence on carrying a staff with him. Granted it wasn't a hewn branch of willow or something silly as that, but essentially when activated, it was just a big stick! In her head she catalogued the damage a big stick could do. She sighed. Rain ran the scanner over Lt Orde's head laceration and watched her tricorder's display. The cut was deep and some arterial damage would need a bit of extra help to close quickly. She grabbed the dermal regenerator from her bag and used it to speed up the healing process. "May I say that I got this little souvenir from my head hitting the back of a Jefferies tube and a panel cover hitting me in the front?" he stated. "There is a lot of blood and some deeper damage but it is all healed now and I'm sure you'll be disappointed to learn you won't have a scar!" He glanced her way and his look made her wonder what he was thinking. "Incidentally, I trust the people I dispatched to assist with the wounded ship proved useful?" Rain pondered her answer briefly before responding, the anger welling up inside of her. "Once they disarmed they worked very efficiently." She said, inordinately proud of the tact she had shown in addressing this man, superior officer or not. Without waiting for a reply, she picked up her things and left the bridge, fuming at the man!! The comm replied almost instantly. =^= Boss? Weren't you on medical leave? What're you doing filing a flight plan?=^= Ralth recognized the voice of his second in Flight Control. "Chief, I'm to reporrt to the admiral today morrning. Now, I've got five injurred onboarrd, as well as a load of medical personnel. Just give me a clearr launch and open the doorrs." Ralth almost vinced at the grimness of his voice, but it was unimportant now. =^= Copy that, Runabout 'Sanctuary'. Clearing the board, you've got medical priority. Bay doors open, you may launch when ready. Be warned, debris and immobile heavies on flightpath.=^= Ralth turned to look behind him. "Take-off positions!" he growled. The medics finished strapping down the last patient to his biobed and sat down themselves. The bay doors opened to reveal a hubbub of traffic and hunks of debris from Pad Bravo that was devastated in the earlier assault. "Hang on, this may be a rough rride!" he cried into the back compartment as the shuttle lifted from the pad. ~There, a hole between those two floating parts... After I clear that piece it'll be open again. Then through that line, it's clear enough. After that, shields at max and out behind the Firestorm... Holy! It's got a piece missing! Was there another attack when I was asleep?~ Ralth fell quickly into his pilot mentality, letting his brains get ahead of the ship, never flying where his thoughts hadn't already cleared him a path. He twisted the runabout through a series of tight loops, then leveled off and turned around the Firestorm, clearing the last obstacles. Now there was only clear space and the emergency traffic heading for Otono, and some picket ships patrolling around the area between him and Mars. Quietly, he slipped inside the traffic line, heading down. Stardate:2406.03.05 (Mars Complex- Strategic Operations, Command Center - Capt Jenna Rulestaad - 00.45) "The command chair Captain..." "Is yours." she said as she turned away from him and back to the communications console. "Once you have received all confirmation, route it to my office, that is where I will be." (reply: Kevel) (posted by Trout) Stardate:2406.03.05 (Mars Complex- Strategic Operations, Command Center - Capt Jenna Rulestaad - 00.45) "Is yours. Once you have received all confirmation, route it to my office, that is where I will be." ~Your office? Now hold on you Vulcan...~ He stopped the thought from occurring and held himself. The room had quieted, but thankfully officers continued their work. He just stared at her long and hard, trying to figure her out. Before she had been crass, cranky and killing ensigns left and right and now, now she was nearly coddling them. "What, Admiral?" Kevel raised his eyebrows at her tone and cocked his head slightly to the left. "Your office. NOW." He wouldn't let this discussion go any further without getting them alone and away from the officers they had to command. Or at least , he would try his best. Rulestaad didn't jump, but only by extreme force of will. She licked her lips, and without saying anything turned and walked down the corridor to her office. Kevel followed her, his mind on many things as he carefully watched her body language and kept open to all possibilities of whatever was going on. As he rounded the corner, he entered the office and waited for her to sit down. She did and silence filled the room for a moment. Kevel spoke calmly. "Computer, lock out all communications under order, Kevel 22.23 Alpha Ten. Seal Doors. Confirm with code Jury Ten." The system beeped and Kevel turned back to the captain. She was still sitting in her chair as he looked into her eyes and didn't say a word. Jenna tapped her fingers together, more to keep her hands active then anything, and returned the silence he gave her. After a moment, the rear admiral spoke, his voice quiet, but still holding a hard edge. "Captain. What just happened out there?" "You chose to confront me, on something I didn't want to do. Then, presumed to give me an order in front of *my* staff. Alright then, you wanted me so badly in my office, you have me." She bit her tongue, and tried mentally repeating a few of the mantra's that she had been thought as a girl. No luck however, this meeting would have to be short. Kevel moved forward and stood closer to the desk. "Captain Rulestaad, if you believe any of what you just said, you may walk out of this office and never come back. What happened?! A simple command, a simple request to take the command chair and you refuse it." His voice was building slightly, he was trying to keep an even keel. He was going to fail, and he knew it. "What is going on captain?! I demand some kind of explanation!" Jenna stood, her anger starting to overcome her sputtering a little. "This. Is. My. Department. Admiral." she said. She looked around for a few moments, then shook her head and sat down. "I didn't want the chair, and I have every right to refuse it. I have been working here as late, I chose to continue working in here." She looked up, "Now get the hell out, and try to remember that I am the Chief of Strategic Operations, not yourself!" Kevel didn't budge. He hadn't become an admiral for nothing. And he certainly hadn't gone through enough fights to prove it. Richard cocked his head to the side and furrowed his brow. Something about her didn't ring true in all of this, something stuck in his mind. Then it clicked. Silence once more held the room as the rear admiral didn't move. A few minutes passed again and he said it softly, as if coming to conclusion that very moment. "You're afraid." Jenna squeezed her hands together, "And you are out of line." Kevel put his hands together behind him and nodded. "Perhaps. But I'm the admiral that lost the command of his Starship because they don't know who I am or really even care. So I'm here, because they believe I'm to serve some kind of purpose here. For now, I'm to serve you Captain. And if that means being out of line, so be it." He let the silence hold and nodded to her. "Take the command chair. It's the only way to beat whatever the hell is going on inside that mind of yours." Kevel turned and made his way to the door. "Computer, rescind all commands and return control of room to Captain Jenna Rulestaad. Kevel Jury Alpha." He vanished out the door, making way to the science station where he then sat and began to run sensor reports. The officers looked at him and then back to their screens. Jenna watched him leave, then licked dry lips. "Computer, seal this room again, no one in without my permission. Rulestaad Alpha 2. She leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes. This, this... this was bad. Jenna watched him leave, then licked dry lips. "Computer, seal this room again, no one in without my permission. Rulestaad Alpha 2. The station has confirmed that the explosion emanating from the Firestorm was caused by a spark igniting the contents of the damaged hydrogen conduit. However, as for the freighter, that seemed to turn up even more questions than answers." "I also was not able to really get anything concrete. She was absolutely not accustomed to seeing herself look like a Bajoran and this startled her slightly. However the years and years of disguise had taught her not to make any outwardly noticeable gestures when she saw a strange face staring back at her from a reflective object. Her ponderances surrounding that odd issue in her life were interrupted by Lieutenant Marsland's speech. "So, Captain Ktell, is there anything you'd like to share with us concerning The Final Way? I'm sure you know what, or should say, whom I refer to?" Fiona found it mildly amusing the way that she often did when she tried to reconstruct her present day intelligence situations for an ancient Terran black and white film that contained secret agents. She'd been introduced to such films at an early age, and reasoned that her fascination with them was most probably partially why she choose her career. "Captain Remae please, Lieutenant Davis. I've managed to put two and two together about my brother as I have just informed Commander Lee and Admiral Jopek." Wherever John is, he's fighting his own war, on his own terms, I don't condone what he has done. But let me ask you this, Mr. Davis: Why did he tell me about them in the first place?" It wasn't to protect us, he told us after the incident. It wasn't to save himself, he's not around to be saved. Involved or not, he's giving an open door and a lead we didn't have before about the working of the 'Final Way' group." Fiona watched as the bajoran looked up before continuing. "A few moments ago, I spoke to Starfleet Command about my findings and my ideas, if I know them, they are going to try and stop them before another hit. I assume you heard about the latest incident? IT happened less than 30 minutes ago." Fiona nodded her head. "Yes, we were made aware of the incident." She finally ventured to speak. There were so many thoughts running around in her head. She needed to find some order to them. (Reply Marsland/Davis) "Do you have any other questions, Mr. Davis?" the Captain asked. (Reply Marsland/Davis) After he'd spoken and asked his question, Fiona raised another point. "Captain Remae, sir." She started out very carefully and with a tone of utmost respect as she was addressing a Captain, "I was just curious as to any possible explanations that you had come up with as to why your brother divulged that information to you. Already you've stated that it wasn't to save us, as it was after the fact and not to save him as he'd already disappeared, but do you have any ideas as to why? Even if they may seem completely unfounded and completely unlikely so as to dismiss them as not valid?" (Reply Remae) Fiona sat back and listened intently to what the Captain was saying. There was a theory behind this and she only hoped that Remae had some more pieces to add to the puzzle. She reasoned he probably did, but whether or not he knew he possessed them was another matter entirely. (Reply Marsland/Davis, Remae) (Posted by Katherine Mazurok) Stardate:2406.03.05 (Starbase Valhalla, Meeting Room, Captain Remae Ktell - 12.20) "Captain Remae, sir.", said Nelon, one of the SFI Ensigns who Remae was in the meeting with and they wanted answeres about his brother, now confirmed as a member of 'Final Way'. "I was just curious as to any possible explanations that you had come up with as to why your brother divulged that information to you. Already you've stated that it wasn't to save us, as it was after the fact and not to save him as he'd already disappeared, but do you have any ideas as to why? Even if they may seem completely unfounded and completely unlikely so as to dismiss them as not valid?" "Ensign Nelon, I am afraid you'll have to call it instinct, a skill that all Captain's reply on when they are in command, there is another option why John told me what he did, and I am going to find out what it is, but until then, I don't have any answers for you.", said Remae. Whatever John was up to, Remae knew that the only options were, one, he was in bad trouble and couldn't get himself out or second. he was trying to recruit Remae into this group. Either way, he had to find out. "Sir, Crewman Maxwell is currently off-duty." "Sorry, my mistake. T'Pran, put together that report. I want it ready when I get back." T'Pran nodded. ~Too bad Rick's on patrol.~ Pierce Orde stood wearily from his desk and carried his glass all the way to the Admiral's office. Stardate:2406.03.05 (Starbase Valhalla: Admiral Jopek's Office - TAC/SC/2O Pierce Horatio Orde - 1303) Pierce walked into Jopek's office, and stood at attention. Pierce sat in the chair uneasily as Jopek swiveled around in his chair. ~Here it comes - where I get demoted and cashiered out of the service.~ "Starfleet has an assignment for you. Analysis of the recent attack in Sector 25462 indicates the work of a group known as the 'Final Way'. You've been selected to infiltrate this group and when possible, relay information back to command while we prepare a mission to capture and put an end to this group once and for all." Shock registered on Pierce's face. NRPG: Why do I get the feeling that Pierce's proficiency with... unconventional weapons influenced the Admiral? RPG: "Put together a small team but also, I want you to talk to Commander Lee and Captain Rulestaad, you're going to need their help." The Admiral passed a PADD to the Security Chief. "You're first job is to get here, via the subspace river and the first ship that is going through, in this case, the USS Spectre under the command of Captain Remae, although he doesn't know this yet, I still have to clear this with Starfleet Intelligence, I suspect they will want to come along too. The Spectre's phase cloak and automation setup makes her the logical choice; you'll be departing at 18.00, report to Captain Remae then. Dismissed." ~Can I get some sleep on the way out? Captain Remae, your orders are clear, I would be very careful if I were you, Starfleet is watching this one as is SFI." "Any questions?" Admiral Jopek had spoken; his orders were clear, stop the renegades by all means required. "No sir, I'll be having a chat with the Chief shortly.", said Commander Lee and nodding, Remae left the Office, he had to get back to the Spectre, there was a lot to do in 4 hours. "Computer, engage all automation subsystems and prepare to bring all systems online.", said Remae, who had now taken his Captain's seat. The lights came on as did the monitors, all systems began to power-up. "Spectre to Valhalla, if you can spare any support Engineers, I would appreciate someone checking out the warp drive. He'd fixed, moved and repaired more things in the last day than he had during his previous assignment, and he'd repaired a lot during his previous assignment, being the only Engineer at the mercy of several scientists with unending demands. And now, the skeleton crew, it was time to be onboard a real ship. He took several stepped up to the platform and was enveloped in a blue haze that rendered him on the bridge of the USS Spectre. She knew that the security chief wanted to speak to her about her behaviour on the Firestorm and with his first aid assistants. She knew her actions could maybe construed as rude but she felt justified in them. The difficulty was in making her point without also making an appointment with a court martial. She knew her penchant for speaking before thinking and as she walked she vowed to think before speaking. She hoped her mouth wouldn't get her in further trouble... even though she'd really like to say exactly what she thought of guns, sticks and concealed tiny phasers and the people that carried them. He's blaming me for the friction!~ Rain counted to 4 but couldn't control herself any longer. She tried to keep her voice calm. "Lieutenant, am I to understand that you believe I am responsible for any problems currently existing between secuirty and medical? I believe I have made it perfectly clear that weapons of any sort are not welcome around patients that I am treating. Yet you deliberately send medics to assist who are ARMED. Not just ARMED but carrying concealed weaponry. And you blame me. If you had not deliberately sent armed crew members into sickbay this would NOT be an issue. They were treating starfleet officers, not alien terrorists, not Jem'Hadar, not Romulans but our fellow officers. None of them were in a condition to attack even if they'd wanted to. He waited for Kahlia's reaction, then continued. "I, a SFI agent, and you will be posing as ex-pirate mercenaries. The group was called the Glittering Daggers, wanted for numerous felony crimes, piracy being among them. This group in paticular was recently decimated by a Starfleet taskforce." He paused to take a breath and collect his thoughts again. "I will be using the cover identity of Havok 'Tac' K'Thac, an ex-Dagger desperate for payback against Starfleet. I'm sure you see the irony. My cover keeps many of my strengths. The appearance will be markedly different." Pierce slid a PADD over to Kahlia. "The cover that is for you is that of Marianna 'Ice' Anmec, your typical aloof and superior Betazoid outlaw. Tell me, are you proficient in any hand-to-hand fighting styles?" (Reply Kahlia) "Excellent. Also for this mission - mostly because Starfleet equipment is too distinctive - I will be bringing out my special armory collection. You let me know what you will be wearing, I'll supply you with it. A good plan is to carry a few obvious weapons as well as multiple concealed." (Reply Kahlia) "We will meet at Docking Area 3 at 1800. Any other questions?" (Reply Kahlia) "Dismissed. I will be available at all times - don't be afraid to call." He had slept for part of the trip from the Academy, but the pilot’s chatter on the communication system had awakened him. From what he’d heard there had been some sort of attack and security was watching for trouble a bit more then normal. The pilot had politely ask Hank if he would mind beaming off instead of docking to which Hank agreed. With the dark blue duffle bag over his shoulder the new engineering officer started towards the turbolifts. According to the information he’d looked over before his trip he was one deck away from where he wanted to be. (Starbase Valhalla - Admiral Jopek's Office - Ensign JG Hank Longfellow - 16:00) In the door way he flipped open a small pouch flap on the side of the duffle bag, and Hank pulled out a handful of PADDs that Admiral Okqil had handed him for the transfer. "At ease and welcome aboard Ensign, congratulations on your graduation from the Academy. I see here that you've been assigned as our Assistant Chief Engineer, well, the timing is very good indeed." "We've recently suffered a terrorist attack against one of the 29 Docking Bays, and it was destroyed, we're currently preparing a mission to find those responsible. Your Chief Engineering Office, Mark Dervin, has been assigned for a short time and he will be your superior for the now." Jopek returned to his screen for a moment. "Lt Dervin is currently going to be on assignment and will be off station so that means you and Lt Michelle Roberts are in charge of all Engineering matters on Utopia Planitia. This means everything save the ships and docking bays themselves under construction are now your responsibility to maintain, this includes our facilities on Mars, which contain the Advanced Theoretical Units." "Okay, find your quarters and settle in, then report to Michelle and find out what's going on around here, next, report to Ensign Anderson for a complete physical, any problems, report to the First Officer, Commander Lee. Stardate:2406.03.05 (Starbase Valhalla - Deck 7: Corridor - Ensign JG Hank Longfellow - 17:30) Settling in took less time then the actual finding of the quarters. He’d simply tossed the duffel bag onto the bed and grabbed a quick jumja tea. The C-rations he’d had at the Academy were still with him and would be for the next day until their time released nutrition ran out and he’d grab another of the brown flat oviods. The disks that held the replicator patterns for his uniforms were stored in a case inside the duffle bag along with a dermal regenerator and his tools of the trade. With tricorder on one hip and engineering kit on the other he grabbed a PADD and had headed out into the corridor. "Computer, locate Lt Roberts, Michelle," Hank ordered as he paused by one of the position finders. The news that he was going to be maintaining everything save the ships and docking bays had somewhat rattled him. He had been looking forward to being outside either in a SEWG or one of the Worker bees, but he was fairly certain that he’d have enough to deal with around the Starbase. Especially if the security that he’d seen earlier and the news of terrorist attacks were any indication of how things would be going around here. (reply Lt Michelle Roberts) (posted by Mark) Stardate:2406.03.05 (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 1800) "We've just received departure orders from Starbase Valhalla.", said the young women at the OPS controls. The Spectre was still attached alongside one of the space repair yards; she was dwarfed by the size of it, inside, little shuttlepods and workbees buzzed around their ship, in this case, a Galaxy class ship was under construction, barely a shell, the support beams were pushed into place, welded together and then the next long arm of metal was placed and welded. On the viewscreen, the ship was being watched by the sparse crew of the USS Spectre, her systems automated and controlled by the OPS station in what looked like a mass of lights and controls. From here, the entire ship could be controlled and run. Most of her decks were shutdown, power transferred to other system, Science and Engineering stations were manned, tactical stations were manned, phaser arrays, warp nacelles, deflector control, all the major systems. The Spectre's orders were clear, find the group known as the 'Final Way', drop off the insertion team and get out. Finding them was the trick, inside the Subspace River, the probes had counted several dozen possibilities where they could have gone, each branch of the river could literally take the Spectre anywhere in the galaxy and they would have to search each one. The only good news on their side was the signature of the ship they were chasing was on record. "Prepare for departure, standby warp and impulse drives, lay in a course to the subspace river enter aperture.", said the Captain. Outside the ship, support lines separated from the ship and once more she was on internal power. "Bridge to Engineering, Mark, how're doing?", he said, opening a channel to the Chief Engineer of the Spectre. (Reply from Mark Dervin) "Weapon status?", he said, looking ahead but behind him Lt. Pierce was at Tactical. (Reply from Orde) "Very well, Engage.", said the CO and the ship slowly began to move away from her temporary dock and towards the subspace feature. "Contact Valhalla and give them our departure time and course, we'll send out messages as we get the chance to. Full impulse and take us in.", he said, as the Spectre left the safety of Utopia Planitia and Sector 001. White light filled the ship, for a moment blinding the Captain and everyone else. The viewscreen came into focus and they were inside the Subspace River. "Alright, take us to the first set of coordinates.", he said the CONN and the Spectre began alter its course and it began to head down the first tributary. Stardate:2406.03.05 (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 18.30) * SHaaBang * The Spectre emerged from the subspace river and into an unknown area of space, stars, planets, and a nebula not too far away. "Cloak the ship, take us to that system, warp 4, engage.", said Remae as the warp drive kicked in, sensor reports began coming in. They were in the Beta Quadrant, quite a long way from anywhere, as it turned out. As the Spectre cloaked, they began to head for the planet system, whether or not they found what they were looking for was anyone's guess but Remae wasn't taking any chances in bumping into anyone out here.
