Cmdr. Tom Jackson -0426) Tom and Lt. Grun were waiting for launch. Tom Jackson was kearn I n to sit back and let the junior officers do there duties. He remembered Captain Devan Sash on the Nimitz letting him learn his job while correcting his errors with kindness. Sash had taught him a lot. The John Glen shuttle was being lifted to the launching platform. Most of Jackson's team were quiet inside their own thoughts. Lt. Grun asked a question he had been mulling over. It concerned Reactionary teams and their staffing. Tom looked at Grun and replied. "I expect we'll have 10 security types to deploy. I was thinkibg along the lines of two teams of five each. How does that sound?" He asked Grun. Reply: Grun Tom began to outline his plans for the base site. A strong perimeter with infra red motion sensors. He had worked out security with Grun. He glanced around and sighed audibly. The harder they tried the farther behind they seemed to get. The locals were getting more disturbed and active. Riots were breaking out all over. The Rathosian police and security forces were stretched tight. Tom's thoughts were intrrrupted by a call from the Captain. Tom listened carefully. "Syuvik to Lieutenant-Commander Jackson. This is it. I have just received orders from Commodore Larsson that we have until tomorrow at 1200 to have completely left the planet. Commander, you are to supervise our withdrawal. As soon as Matrix team has reached the reactor, contact Lieutenant-Commander Noah and help her retreat to our camp. Once everyone at the camp, you are to supervise the dismantling of the camp. This may give rise to even more riot as many Quezalth may be joyful of our departure. Make sure we have proper security to insure the protection of the camp as we withdraw. And don't forget to keep an eye on Matrix's team, in case they run into any problem." Tom thought for a moment. "Understood Captain. We'll be ready. I wish we could have done more to help. Reply: Syuvik The channel closed. Tom thought and summoned his crew and gave them the word. he took a deep breath. " I want to relay our new orders. We've been given 36 hours to remove our presence from the planet. Ensign Charles, you get to coordinate the remainder of the supplies and ensure they are distributed to those that need them". The young officer nodded her understanding. She was on her first assignment. Tom turned his gaze to a grizzled chief petty officer. "Chief Matson - you get the dirty task of being the last one to leave. You and your crew are our rear guard." "Thanks Boss" the chief replied with a grin. Tom wasn't happy but he followed orders. Jackson was a bit miffed as he was supposedly the ground commander and heading up the evacuation. He turned things over to Chief Stevens and headed over to the Lieutenant who seemed to be running things. “What is the meaning of this Lieutenant? I’ m Commander Jackson of the Soval.” The female security officer looked a bit confused and worried as the tall, somewhat belligerent Lt. Commander towered over her. “Sir, we are here to assist you with the evacuation” Lt. Stevens began. She was about to continue when Tom cut her off. “Lieutenant, is it not customary to consult with the on-ground commander before stepping on someone else’s function?” Tom added, glowering at her. Stevens looked unsure. She didn’t like to cross senior officers but her orders were firm. “Commander Jackson, our orders come from Vice Admiral Thinn. I am tasked to inform you are ordered to comply fully” Stevens added. “I see – no choice eh?” Tom asked rhetorically. Stevens decided to remain silent. Tom Jackson couldn’t bluff his way out of this one. He took several deep breaths and tried to calm down. Finally, he said “Carry on Lieutenant” and turned away. Tom went to a quiet area and opened a secured channel to the Soval “Jackson to Captain Syuvik” he sent and waited. He was determined to find out what was going on! Tom Jackson 2O USS Soval ------------------------------------------------------------ Mission: The Lesser Evil Day: 12 Stardate: 2414.12.04 ( Soval Compound LCDR Tom Jackson 2O Day 12 0702) Tom gad a rather strange conversation with the skipper. There were things going on and it's wasn't good. Tapping his badge he reluctantly sent " Jackson to all Soval personnel. Per SF Command orders just received and verified by me, we are to cease all support and services and retire to the Soval ASAP. Team leaders may contact me at my location." (Reply: Team Leads) Tom was mad and worried. This meant in the eyes of Command, they had failed and Tom Jackson hated failure. Jackson hoped Matrix and company had heard his broadcast and would react accordingly. Tom and his team turned to and began the process of shutting down operations at an accelerated pace. His instincts screamed something screwy as afoot. He didn’t like mysteries one bit! As he was thinking he received word that all teams under his control were ready to return to the Soval. Tapping his Comm badge, he radioed the Soval he was beginning the return of Soval personnel to the ship. He had determined the medical team would return last, as he wanted to give the local people all the help he could for as long as he could. The activity was picking up. This worried Jackson –he did not like being watched too closely. “”Commander Jackson, we’re ready to head to the Soval at your command” a petty officer announced. “Thanks you Petty Officer Roberts – load em up” Tom ordered. The shuttles were filling up and began to leave for the ship. He made up his mind to corner Syuvik and find out what the frack was going on. He smelled something he didn’t want to believe. He took several deep cleansing breaths and was a bit more composed. Tom and the last team board the shuttle Grissom and head to an unknown fate. Evidently it was the results of the medical scan results, as he came back to the patient with a loaded hypospray. “From you results it look like you got a rather high dose of radiation. There will be no permanent damage and I will give you some medication that will reverse the effects.” As soon as Daniel heard that, he was greatly relieved, and smiled broadly to let it show"Doc, that's the best news I've had in a long while, thank you!" Noah leaned in and Brown felt the gentle pressure and heard the soft hiss of the hypospray against his neck. “I want you back in the morning for another dose a more the day after. Okay?” "Absolutely no problem Doc, I appreciate the help. Any restrictions on my duties beyond what you already mentioned?" (Reply Noah iyw, room for more if desired) (USS Soval - Jeffries Tube 36 Delta - ACEO Brown - 1520) He had rested a few more minutes in sickbay as directed, then when he felt up to it Brown made his way down to Deck 36 once more. He and crewman Martin were inside one of the major Jeffries tubes on the deck. Currently they were removing access panels within the tube in order to get to some of the damaged EPS system. Overloads inherent to the emergency shutdown and all the warp plasma feedback had made a shambles of much of the power distribution network. Bob Martin voiced what Brown was already thinking. "Wish we had better ventilation in here, sir." Brown chuckled. "I'll try not to take that personally!" Martin laughed lightly in turn. "Not what I meant exactly. A weeks pay says that the bio neural gel packs are cooked in this node, you can smell them." "No bet there. And it's 'Dan' by the way. I don't much stand on formality... particularly when I'm holding my breath and dealing with burnt goo." "Okay then... Dan. Hold your breath, I'll pull the next panel." As good as his word, Martin pulled the next access panel, and the truth of his assertion was plain. The bio neural gel packs controlling this particular EPS distribution node were either melted or burned. In either case, they were both useless, and foul smelling. Brown sighed as he arranged his tools on the deck near his head as he lay on his left side to access the damaged components. "Computer, please note for the repair log. EPS junction control unit... three-six-delta-zero-four. Gel packs destroyed. Replacing, will test other hardware when ready." [Noted in Engineering log] Brown began suctioning out the uncontained gel in preparation for the rest of the repair.
