Calvin heard the familiar voice over the intercom and replied. "Aye sir!" Calvin looked behind his shoulder and saw Lt. Brownlee already walking in the direction of the Captains ready room. "Acknowledged." Joran said, tapping his communicator. He then headed over to the door and pressed the chime. "Enter," She said, taking a sip of her tea. "Gentlemen, have a seat." She motioned toward the two empty seats in front of her desk. The first officer did as she said. He put his right heel over his left knee and waited for the news the captain was about to the give. "Thank you," Joran said, taking the one on the left. "I'll get right to the point," Eva said, between sips of her tea, "Logistical and other concerns of the Battle Group are limiting the amount of time I have to concentrate on issues here on the Paladin. Therefore, Lt. Brownlee I would like you to assume the role as Third Officer as well as Chief Science Officer, if you have no objections?" Calvin looked over at the Lt. and could tell that he was happy to be hearing the news, but did not want to seem to excited and lose his poseur. "No, sir, no objections." "Your duties, besides those as CSO, would include assisting Commander Capps and Lt. T'Vhor in the day-to-day running of the Paladin. Assisting with crew evaluations, maintaining ship and crew efficiency, and taking charge of the occasional shift on the Bridge. Questions, or comments?" "No sir." Calvin spoke for the first time in the meeting. "No, sir," he said, not being able to keep his excitement in much longer. He then stood up and turned toward the doors to exit. Once the new 3O and FO were out of the ready room, Calvin turned to Lt. Brownlee. "Congratulations Lt." She enjoyed the day off, and the Doctor's company. But she wanted to see mor ethan the exact same four walls. The Doctor had finaly released her and the first thing she wanted to do was meet up with Calvin. Calvin had been the perfect boyfriend in Elizabeth's mind. Each time he was off duty or had the time to swing by he would. He woulb bring her breakfast in the morning and dinner at night. Even though it only lasted one and a half days it was very sweet of Calvin to do so Elizabeth thought. Right before Elizabeth left sickbay she turned to Dana. "Thank you again, for everything." "You have been an excellent patient. Thank you," Dana gladly said back to the ops officer. This time Elizabeth wanted to give Calvin the dinner instead of him bringing one to her. After watching the medical crew make their rounds for a few moments he breathed a sigh of relief and went to his wife and daughters. (USS Paladin - Personal quarters - CMO Lt. (jg) Jared Keller - 17:21) Jared walked through the doors and ran immediately into a flurry of hugs and giggles from Lyara and Yssandra, you would think that at seventeen the oldest would be beyond such displays of affection but he cherished it, he fought through them to reach the kitchen where his wife Talinna was cooking what smelled to be Italian fare which had beckoned him like a sirens call when he had walked through the front door. "Ahhh. Chicken Marsalla, meatballs and penne pasta with marinarra." He said approvingly as she turned and he gathered her up in his arms and gave her a lingering kiss then released her before anything could burn. "A little cleanup and I'll return shortly." He said as he turned toward their bedroom and master bath, afterward he would acquire a good chianti to go with it. "This is heaven." he said to himself as he stepped into the shower. He went passed the first room and into the second where he thought he would find her. Once Calvin noticed she was gone he placed the tray down on a medcal tray and went to the Doctors office. There he found Ensign Keating. "Ensign where is Ensign Knightley?" Calvin asked in a concerned voice. "Sir, I released her a couple of hours ago. Did she not contact you?" Lt. Cmdr Capps was not trying to be rude, but he paid no attention to the doctors last question. "Computer, locate Ensign Knightley." He took a few steps to his left and looked at the panel. He saw that she was running a program, but Calvin still did not understand. Calvin then walked up to the doors. The doors opened and Calvin then realized what was going on. He couldn't believe how selfish and stupid he was acting. What Elizabeth had done was set up a nice dinner for two in the holodeck. Elizabeth looked up and over at the entrance. She had a smile on her face. "I was beginning to worry you weren't going to make it." "I wouldn't have missed this for the universe." Calvin smiled and walked over to her. He leaned over and gave her a kiss. "This looks great," he said in a small quiet voice. "Thank you." then then gave him a kiss. "Please sit down." "I would be happy to." The two of them had dinner and enjoyed the night with each other. The ship, if indeed it was a ship did not match anything in federation databases, to all effect it appeared to be almost as though it were on a predefined course. All attempts at contact had been fruitless, Either they were being ignored or they were unable to answer for whatever reason that might be. It was a strange one for sure. T`Vhor turned to the Captain. "Sir, this could be a first contact scenario", said T`Vhor, "shall I inform starfleet of our plan to board & investigate this vessel?", he added. "Team one will consist of myself, Ensign Kaeter, Ensign Dunn with 5 security officers, Lt. Matrix with two more engineers, three science officers, ten marines, and Major Menelian." Calvin looked up fron his PADD and noticed all the officers for team one had made their own group away from the rest of the officers. "Team two will be led by Lt. Brownlee. He will take two science officers. One medical, Ensign Apar with 5 security personal, Ensign Rathyn with two more engineers, Lt. Tirrel with ten marines, and 1st Lt. Rath will be piloting." Calvin took a breath and continued to speak. "We will be going over to the alien vessel and initiate a full investigation. We will arrive at the same coordinates, from there we will split up. Both pilots will stay in the shuttle with one security personal. Now there is no power over there so we will be wearing our EVA suits." Calvin looked up again and saw both teams split up. "Suit up, then we leave." Calvin went inside of the Danube shuttle. He then proceeded to put on his suit. After a few minutes he was ready for the away mission. Once inside with her teammates, Alura stepped into her own suit and began pulling the fabric up over her shoulders then attached the inner-clasps set down the front then folded the outer lining over them sealing it against the outside environment. As he was changing, Ensign Rathyn said to him, "It'll never make a fashion statement, but it'll keep us alive." Joran turned around to look at her. She had an EVA suit on, and she was swimming in it! Joran chuckled. "Well," he said, "I don't think the designer ever wanted to see supermodels wearing it on a runway in New York or Paris." (reply Rathyn) Once everyone was suited up, Joran called them to attention. "Alright. Let's make sure that everyone is here, first of all." He then proceeded to call the roll. (reply all listed above) (posted by Spencer) (USS Paladin - Runabout Alaska - MCO Conner Tirrel - 11:15) After three slow passes of the dark forboding vessel, The Runabouts pilot, 1st Lt Rath brought the shuttle to the only area that resembled anything like a hanger bay. Conner, along with various other members of team two looked out through the observation ports looking for any signs of life on board, whilst others monitored various consoles for any energy spikes that might appear to signal possible defensive weaponary. The craft though, appeared just as dead as when they had first encountered it. Within a few minutes & after reporting their progress to the Paladin, the runabout had begun a slow drift towards what would have been described as a stern loading bay on a federation ship. Utilising the maneouvering jets for positioning, Rath took them directly between two large black pillar like structures that stood on either side of the entrance way. As they passed through them, a sudden surge of energy imediately registered on one of the runabouts displays to indicate something had changed as they entered. Conner imediately stepped up to access a panel on the flight deck. "Environment status has changed", he said as puzzled faces behind him followed that of his own. "This chamber is completely open to space but the moment we entered, something created an artificial class M environment within it", he added. He then looked out into the darkened completely alien interior of the bay through the runabouts forward screen as he ran a perimeter scan to look for defensive weapons or anything untoward. "I don`t like the look of this", said Drew, the marine gunnery sergeant. "Looks like their expecting us", he added. (Reply Any, IYW) "You can bet your last meal we`ve at least been scanned in some way", said the MCO. "Nobody would set up a class M environment for a non humanoid lifeform", he added. The Alaska then slowly came to rest on the floor of the bay, shutting down it`s engines as it did so. Conner then retreated away from the flightdeck & turned to Lt Brownlee, the team leader as he in turn stood from his seat. "How do you want us to play this Lieutenant", he asked. (Reply Brownlee) "I would suggest taking a marine recon team ahead of the main group to secure our progress as we go", said Conner. (Reply Brownlee) Conner then nodded to his squad to indicate for them to fix helmets for full EVA recon. "Sensors say we can walk around out there without EVA but I`m not buying it", said Conner. "It changed very quickly & theres no saying it couldn`t change back just as quick", he added. Everyone saw his point & duly agreed. (Reply Brownlee, Any) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Paladin - Runabout Alaskaa - ACEO Ensign Alura Rathyn - 11:15) As Brownlee was changing, Ensign Rathyn said to him, "It'll never make a fashion statement, but it'll keep us alive." Joran turned around to look at her. She had an EVA suit on, and she was swimming in it! Joran chuckled. "Well," he said, "I don't think the designer ever wanted to see supermodels wearing it on a runway in New York or Paris." "I've heard Paris is one of Earth's more popular tourist locations," the Bajoran woman said to him as she inspected her suit more closely. "I've been to that world several times but never as a tourist." Once everyone was suited up, Joran called them to attention. He methodically called off names from team roster as each person acknowledged his or her presence. "Alright we're all here, let's move out." Sitting at the helm, Lt Stephiea Rath guided the shuttle through the enlarging opening where the bay doors had been and directed the small craft out of the safety of the Paladin and into the vast emptiness. A short burst from the starboard thruster brought the enormous alien craft into view. "I'll make a pass to find a place to land", said Rath. The first and second orbits around the vessel revealed no feasable landing area. However, on the third attempt, Stepiea spotted an opening and made for it. Carefully, guiding the shuttle into the aperture she set the shuttle down in a seamless landing. "Environment status has changed," Conner Tirrell looked at one of the panels with a puzzled expression. "This chamber is completely open to space but the moment we entered, something created an artificial class M environment within it." Tirrell then looked out into the darkened completely alien interior of the bay through the shuttles forward screen as he ran a perimeter scan. "I don`t like the look of this", said Drew, the marine gunnery sergeant. "Looks like their expecting us", he added. There was a general stirring of agreement from the other team members. "It's possible the ship is pre-programmed to scan any approaching ship for life forms and then accomadate their environmental needs," Rathyn said. "This is not necessarily a military installation. It could be a cilivian outpost of some kind, or scientific — we could name off any number of possibilities." She looked over to the science station. "If there was no change in the ships energy profile, where in the hell did that class M environment come from?" "The energy field surrounding the unknown ship is still hindering our scans Captain. Just because we did not detect an energy surge does not mean there wasn't one," Ensign S'Vark said. As they approached, Joran could make out some faint writing on the side of the ship: QHL Sindilindele Hostain 742 Imladris, Arda He had no idea what it meant, but he believed that if he recorded this example and found other examples in the ship, he may be able to decipher the language, maybe even create a translation matrix. As he was pondering this, he noticed that they had found what seemed to be their shuttlebay, and they were implementing it. A console beeped, alerting the crew to something. Joran heard Lt. Tirrel's voice, which snapped him back to reality. "Environment status has changed. This chamber is completely open to space but the moment we entered, something created an artificial class M environment within it." Joran was baffled to say the least. "Is it possible that the ship, or station, whatever it is, could still be active," he asked the computer. [Negative. All systems are offline.] ~That makes no sense whatsoever,~ he thought to himself. "How do you want us to play this, Lt.?" Tirrel asked of him. "We need to be cautious," Joran replied. "If the ship was able to scan and sense us coming into it's shuttlebay, it may well have security systems still online. We need to be able to defend ourselves at any and every corner." Cmdr Capps was sitting down in shuttle craft Arizona which was floating outside the unknown vessel behind and ascending into the alien ship's suttlebay. While the Arizona came to a complete stop and landed on to the floor members of Team 1 could see Team 2's marines doing a check in the shuttlebay. They were wearing there EVA suits. "Lt. Cmdr Capps to Lt. Brownlee. have your marines cleared the shuttle bay?" Calvin wasn't 100 percent sure if where they had landed was a shuttle bay, but he decided it was simple enough to name it that anyway. (reply Brownlee) Team 2 started to leave the shuttle. Calvin and his team made sure their EVA suit were working properly. The Arizona scans had picked up the Class M environment, but Lt. Cmdr Capps was not going to trust it. Once everyone on Team 1 was finished, they all left the shuttle in single file. Ensign Faye, one of the security officers, went out first followed by the First Officer. Once the Marines stepped off the ship they spread quickly as to secure the perimeter even more. Calvin knew a couple of command officers and security officers did not like the idea Marines. They thought that the Marines were un-necessary and they took the job away from security. Calvin had always thought that the Marines were a huge asset to any starship. Extra protection went a long ways especially if it came to life and death matter. The rest of Team 2 followed. Once everyone was off both shuttles Calvin looked around the shuttlebay as to take everything in and to think about the current situations. Calvin took out his own tricorder and started to swing it to the left and right. he knew he had plenty of science officers and others to run scans for the team, but Calvin still had the operations officer still inside of him. "Looks like our tricorder scans can't reach any further than 13.7 meters ahead. Lt. Brownlee, lets split up the teams. Leave this room and make your way downwards. Use all your resources. We need to know everything we can about this ship." Team 1 watched Team 2 walk toward the doors. Calvin knew they would have to open the doors first so Calvin had a different plan for his team. "Lt. Brownlee, once you get that door open, and my Team finishes up scanning this room we will head upward." Calvin then turned to his team and specifically looked at the Chief Engineer. "Lt. Matrix we are going to search this shuttlebay first. Take the science teams and engineering teams and find anything you can about this shuttlebay and if you can about the technology." "Ok people, look sharp, phase rifles to stun, let`s get the lay of the land", said Conner as he quickly split his team into three groups of three, with himself leading the first group along with a corporal, a lance corporal & a sapper. They quickly spread out towards the sides of the dark enclosure, their mark III-C phase rifles swinging from the left to the right as they advanced & clearly indicated by the illuminated dust specks of the red laser targetting devices fixed upon them. It was cold, bitterly cold & Conner felt kinda glad they had stuck with he EVA suit options because of this. Whatever had scanned them before, obviously hadn`t taken into consideration their requiremements for warmth. "First Lieutenant Tirrel has just radioed in. They've secured the shuttlebay and it is now safe for us to join them. So, if there are no questions, put on your helmets, and let's move out." "As you say H'od." K'Tarn replied and grabbed his helmet with a fierce grin, he was looking forward to looking into this mystery from the inside. After putting his helmet on he grabbed the tricorder he had been issued and checked his sidearm to ensure it was set and ready. Everything was in order of course, no Klingon ever went anywhere without being battle ready, even if he was in science and not a warrior. (Reply: Brownlee) (Posted by Charles) (Unknown Vessel - coridoor - MCO Conner Tirrel - 11:55) After splitting the marines into three groups, Conner led his own team forwards ahead of the main group to investigate one of the coridoors further. He was already aware of both team one & his own teams progress via the open comms link in his helmet, which had been crackling to life every few minutes or so. The entire ship was a bizzare place for sure but nothing however could have prepared him for what was to happen next. As he stepped forwards into the oppresive darkness of the seemingly never ending coridoor, he suddenly became aware of the texture of the floor having changed. It was like he was walking in a swamp or something. Curious, he quickly swung is Rifle downwards to illuminate the floor & as he did so, he was shocked to see that his boots had disappeared almost three inches into the deck plating, it`s metallic surface having now folded up around the sole of it. Quickly, he lifted his boot & stepped backwards, raising his hand to indicate a possible hazard to the three men behind him. "I have something here", said the MCO, "Something isn`t right with the decking", he added. All three men then stood still surveying the surrounding area with their personal flashlights. "Wooah!", said Corporal Gawlick. "Jeez man, did somebody slip us an hallucinogenic", he added as he stepped back also, lifting one heavy boot as he did. Conner looked towards the walls & then upwards to the ceiling above. Both were as before, drab grey, no illumination, no panels. Then he reached outwards to touch the wall & as he did so, his hand surprisingly slipped straight through the solid surface, which in turn had now begun to turn translucent to show what was on the other side of the wall! Instinctively, he withdrew his hand fast, then he turned to face his comrades. "Don`t touch anything" All three of the marines froze, unsure now of what to make of what they were witnessing, then all of a sudden everything had returned to normal again. In the twinkling of an eye the deck plating was as solid & firmly ensconced as it had been before their feet had begun sinking into it, the wall as opaque & solid as before. Conner looked to his men quizically unsure now of what was going on. "You all saw that yes?", he asked. Both men nodded to indicate their affirmative. "Unreal man", said Gawlick as he scanned the coridoor with his III-C, his finger poised upon it`s trigger in readiness to disintegrate whatever moved in it`s sights. Conner stared in his direction like a father looking out for his child. "Keep it cool marine", he said calmly, even though half of him understood the marines jumpiness. "This place is giving me the creeps", said the corporal just as Conner activated his comms to report his findings. =/\=Tirrel to all members of the boarding party, we are experiencing unusual variations in the interior of the vessels coridoors=/\=, said the MCO. =/\=Exercise extreme caution & be aware, things might not be as they appear to be=/\=, said the MCO. With two away teams now engaged in reconaisance over on the strange unidentified vessel, all of their efforts now seemed to be concentrated upon it. It would have been easy for them all to forget that they were at war. ~If only that were true~ thought Lt T`Vhor as he sat routinely scanning & correlating all data coming in from both the away teams & the other ships in their strike force. With the task force itself now split into smaller groups, T`Vhor wondered what might be happening elsewhere as he watched the conn officer performing small alterations to the Paladins station keeping thrusters so as to maintain it`s position, relative to the vessel outside as it continued to drift slowly onwards towards federation space. Then, from his panel a small peak appeared on a stylised graphical representation of the vessels power output levels. T`Vhor was on it imediately, his voice the only intrussion to the otherwise quiet bridge as he turned to the CO. "Sir, a power spike originating from the unknown vessel, small, could be something coming online", said T`Vhor as he continued manipulating the pulse on his console in an attempt to gain more information on it`s origin. (Reply CO) "Re-routing auxiliary power to boost sensors", said T`Vhor as the pulse continued to hit highs & lows repeatedly over the next five minutes, giving them a good sample of the power spike to play with. "It`s coming from an area forward of the landing parties location", said T`Vhor, "something has definately gone online", he added whilst running his hand across his terminal to reverify the spike. (Reply CO) Then, as suddenly as it had appeared, the pulse vanished from the sensors. "It`s gone sir", said T`Vhor, "whatever it was it has reverted to it`s normal inert state", he added as he logged the sensor contact in the Paladins database for future evaluation. They had to use some of their equipment, but more of their strength to open it. While team 2 followed orders and made there way forward, team 1 finished up the investigation in the shuttlebay. Nothing was found to be of any great importance. No technology could be found due to all power being down. No consoles could be accessed. It seemed as if bad accidents were going to happen all through this away mission. Lt. Cmdr Capps did not have a good feeling about this one. "Team 1, lets move out of the shuttlebay and begin to search the rest of the ship." Calvin turned his body and the flash light he was holding in his left hand. It was total darkness inside of the ship. No one would be able to see if the flash lights were to some how malfunction and no longer work. The EVA suits that everyone was having to wear really wasn't helping much either. "Ensign Dunn, bring up the front with your security team. Marines take the rear. Ensign Kaeter, stay close to me. Lt. Matrix keep running full scans, report anything right away." Team 1 used their light to find the door that was already pried open from team 2. The security detail walked through first and the rest of team 2 followed with the Marines keeping their backs safe. There was only once good reason for the EVA suits Calvin could think of at the moment. The light inside of the helmet let every team member be able to tell who the other team member were. As Calvin placed one foot in front of the other slowly, an officer behind him began to speak up. "Sir." Calvin turned around to see a Science Officer's head glowing in the light only. "What is it Ensign." The Ensign looked down at his tricorder again. "Well, never mind sir." Calvin felt a little displeased with the Ensign, but knew this might very well be one of the Ensigns first away missions. This time he let the Ensign free. He turned his body once again in the heavy suit and began to keep walking. Only 3 meters down the corridor, team 1 had finally saw the first door. "Lets check it out." But before the team started to pry the door open the same Science officer spoke up again. "Sir." Calvin at this time was already in a bit of shock and as bad as he hated to admit it, he was getting a little jumpy too. "Ensign, you better have something to report." Lt. Cmdr Capps said without realizing the tone in his voice. He turned toward the Ensign. "Sir, although this vessel will not allow our tricorders to scan very far, I believe there is something in that room." The FO had to take in the new information. But what was 'something'. Is it something that they needed to know about right away. Or did both teams need to get off this right now. "Lt. Matrix, are you reading anything?" (reply Matrix) "Ensign Dunn, lets move in." As the security detail pried the door open fairly easy, all light source suddenly went offline. It was now 100 percent darkness. No once was able to see anything. Even the lights on the phaser and compression rifles were off. The fear of their weapons could now be useless did not set well with the First Officer. "Everyone, stand still. Any suggestions?" Greg twisted around in the cramped EVA suit and scanned the ceiling above him. Like everything else so far it was blank and boring. The comm unit in the helmet crackled to life. "Team 1, lets move out of the shuttlebay and begin to search the rest of the ship." It was Capps. Greg moved around to the best of his ability and faced the FO. There was a brief flash of unease on his on his face but it quickly dissapeared. "Ensign Dunn, bring up the front with your security team. Marines take the rear. Ensign Kaeter, stay close to me. Lt. Matrix keep running full scans, report anything right away." Greg looked to his detatchment of security officers and gave rapid hand gestures indicating them to take up positions. Once they were in place Greg moved forward and the group began to move forwards. Greg's group went forward in a semi-crouch with weapons at eye level, lights flicking up the walls and ahead of the group. It was quiet for a few moments and then the comms sparked up. "Sir." Greg could tell there was an element of unease in the voice. "What is it Ensign." "Well... never mind sir." Greg grimmaced slightly that was not good to annoy the FO with sensless babble, but somthing in the voice was telling Greg otherwise. After a short 3 meter walk they came accross a door. Greg waved the security detail to stop and Greg approached the door. "Lets check it out." said Calvin. Greg hung the rifle strap over his shoulder and got out the tratitional crowbar and he was about to slide the narrow end down the gap when that worried ensign piped up again. "Sir." The hair at the back of Greg's kneck pricked up slightly. He indicated to a one of his security detail and he came over and took the crowbar off him and stood ready. Calvin: "Ensign, you better have something to report." Lt. Cmdr Capps said with out realizing the tone in his voice. Ensign: "Sir, although this vessel will not allow our tricorders to scan very far, I believe there is something in that room." Calvin: "Lt. Matrix, are you reading anything?" (reply Matrix) Calvin: "Ensign Dunn, lets move in." Greg raised his rifle and covered the door and nodded to the officer with the bar. The door gave little resistance and then everything went black. Calvin: "Everyone, stand still. Any suggestions?" Greg didn't answer and instead produced a small cylinder from his leg utility belt and twisted it. We have light, besides if we did let loose we would alert anyone or anything to our prescence... if they already havent noticed us. We also don't know if our weapons work." He said briskly. (reply Matrix) Greg raised the rifle to eye level and moved slowly towards the door, curiosity got the better of him. "Commander I am going to go in and take a look." Greg pointed at two security officers andstepped into the room with two others and approached the ignighted flare that resided in the center of the large room. He quickly scanned the around there were numerous pod like things all of which were open, then somthing caught his eye... somthing was moving accross the wall. Then there was another one. They were all crawling accross the wall towards the small group. "Er.... commander I see alot of movement. They appear to be hostile." (Reply Calvin) Greg took aim on the nearest hostile and slowly backed away with the others. Then there was a thump and a terrible screach behind him. Greg spun around and let loose a barrage of fire into what looked like a snarling and drooling mouth. It staggered back slightly but weapons fire only seemed to aggrivate it more. "CLOSE FORMATION AND OPEN FIRE!" His party formed a tight circle and they all opened fire. "COMMANDER CAPPS GET THE REST OUT OF HERE! I REPEAT GET OUT! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" The things were already tightening their grip on the small circle. One security officer let out a shrill scream and Greg spun around and saw one of the things grab the officer and it sunk its teeth into his kneck sending blood spraying over the other two. Greg's eyes opened wide and he grabbed the other officer and they attempted to make a run for it only to be cut off again. "Stay close and you will be fine." He whispered to the ensign that was now clutching his arm and shaking violently. Greg fired at the creature that was blocking his path and made a run at it. This action seemed to startle it and it jumped out of the way. "Just keep running. I will be right behind you." Matrix allowed the security officers to follow Greg into the hanger bay. Within a few moments Matrix heard the screams and phaser fire, "Team get out, get out now!" Matrix aimed his phaser rifle up to track anything that wasn't a crew member and watched the team run for the corridor. He noticed that one creature grabbed a security officer, but before Matrix could fire, it had mortally wounded the crew member. Matrix took aim at the attacking creature and fired. The phaser blast hit the creature in the upper back. It illuminated it in a slight orange glow, almost circular, with a loud pop, and smoke rolled off it as it staggered back a few steps. It turned toward Matrix in a daze. Matrix couldn't believe it was still standing, "Damn it, these things are just shrugging off the phaser blasts!" Matrix yelled. Matrix aimed at it's chest this time and tapped maximum on the rifle and squeezed off another blast. Again, orange glow of the blast hit the creature in a loud pop, but it only slowed it down slightly more. Matrix heard Calvin yelling at the crew members to get out. Matrix wanted to get the creature out of harms way of the team and punched up vaporize on the phaser rifle. He fired one last blast at the creature's chest. An orange-greenish glow filled the immediate area. In a millisecond the creature was in a flash of light, then nothing. It was gone. "Son of a..." Matrix said aloud. Cmdr Capps looked at Greg and gave him a nod. Calvin was satisfied that he could see his crew members once again. After a brief pause he turned his attention back to the room. "Light up the room," Calvin wanted so he could halfway see the inside of the room before his security team entered. Greg nodded and produced another and this time threw it into the room. "Commander, why don't we fire off some low energy bursts and get some light in here, perhaps we can see something and warn whatever is in here with us?" "No Lt. "Chief, I don't have a good feeling about this either." Calvin then chose to make a bold move. "Move in Ensign Dunn." "Er.... commander I see a lot of movement. They appear to be hostile," reported Ensign Dunn. ~That was too quick of a report.~ "How can you be so sure Ensign?" "CLOSE FORMATION AND OPEN FIRE!" Ordered Ensign Dunn to his team. "ONLY FIRE IF THEY ARE HOSTILE," Lt. Cmdr Capps said loudly trying to take control of the situation before it got out of hand. "COMMANDER CAPPS GET THE REST OUT OF HERE! I REPEAT GET OUT! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" Calvin and the rest of the crew members of team 1 could indeed see the alien beings quickly gaining on to the security team. But Calvin thought had they attacked first or did they attack after we started to fire. There was no time for that now, team one was in danger and they need to get out just like Ensign Dunn had said. "DO NOT SEND IN HELP. WEAPONS HAVE ZERO EFFECT.... we will catch up with you soon." Calvin believed he had heard an order from the Ensign, but sure it was more of a suggestion than an order. "Marines, do not enter the room, but stay behind and help the security team get out of there alive." Calvin then pointed at three other Marines, "Except for you three, come with us." All the Marines responded with an affirmative. Calvin and the rest of team 1 begin to run down the corridor. ~Damn it~ Calvin thought. He knew this situation was getting out of hand and that was exactly what he did not want. Team 1 started to run the opposite way of the shuttlebay. They began to get deeper into the ship. Lt. Cmdr Capps knew that the shuttlebay was to far and the team would never make it back in time. They had to find a place to hide for now. Calvin tapped his combadge. It made a chirping sound. "Team one to Paladin." No one answered. "Team one to Paladin," Calvin tried again. No one answered. The communications were out. Calvin and his team came up to another door. "Here, lets open this quickly." All the team members did as the First Officer ordered. Calvin realized that behind this door there could be more hostile alien beings but he had to do something. The door was opened, and team 1 entered. Shortly after half the security team and half the Marine team entered the room as well. The Klingon was at a loss to explain it, these readings would have to be broken down more completely by the ships diagnostic equipment. Chatter had been going on regularly since team one had left the hanger deck but what began to come through the comms now brought a growl to his throat. "Er.... commander I see alot of movement. They appear to be hostile." "How can you be so sure Ensign?" A hideauos screech echoed through the hangar from somewhere farther off. "CLOSE FORMATION AND OPEN FIRE!" "ONLY FIRE IF THEY ARE HOSTILE," Lt. Cmdr Capps shouted. The whining discharge of energy weapons was clearly audible. K'Tarn snatched the knife as long as his forearm from the sheath strapped to his right thigh as he dropped the tricorder forgotten from his hand, the readings from the energy spike emenating from the bowels of the ship would have to wait. Fortunately the tricorder was on a neck strap and slapped high on his stomach and ceased whining as the lifted lid snapped shut. The Klingon growled deep in his throat as his left hand also snatched the phaser from where it was snapped to his belt. The knife had a long and wickedly serated edge and had it been carried under Klingon auspices would have its edge discolored by a toxic nerve poison but since he was under Federation authority he was not allowed to coat his weapon. That didn't worry him the least though as he gripped the weapon easily with a feral look on his face that could not be seen under his helmet. "COMMANDER CAPPS GET THE REST OUT OF HERE! Stephiea Rath, 12:05) Steph sat on the loading ramp to the runabout Alaska, looking around at the alien 'hanger bay' it was pitch black, but with her high intensity flash light she could make out the contours of the room, and it's sheer vastness. ~Damn close to the same size as hanger bay 3 on the Paladin.~ She thought standing up to get a better look around. She could see the two security guards that had remained behind with her and Major Menelian. ~Who should be around here somewhere.~ Steph thought now looking around for the FSCO. She could make out a beam of light off on the other side of the other runabout. Assuming that was Menelian looking around the room like she was, Steph turned her attention back to the tri-corder she was carrying. Adjusting the controls some more to narrow the scanning beam in an attempt to punch through the interference caused by the mysterious energy field. There was a momentary energy spike recorded by her tri-corder that lasted only a fraction of a second. "What the hell was that?" She said, to no one in particular. Turning she hurried up the boarding ramp on to the Alaska and moved to the cock pit. Her hands moved over the controls powering up the runabouts more powerful sensors. After a few seconds of reconfiguring the scanning parameters, Steph began scanning for the life signs of the two teams exploring the ship. Steph frowned. "1st Lt Rath to Lt Brownlee, please respond," She said, opening a comm-channel. There was no response, not even static. "1st Lt Rath to Lt. Brownlee, please respond." Again no response. "1st Lt. Rath to Commander Capps, please respond," She said next. No response, not even static. "1st Lt Rath to any away team member, please respond," she tried at last. Again there was no response. Steph cursed and ran back out of the runabout. "Major!" she yelled, "We have a problem. I can't contact any one on either team, and I've lost their life signs." Now, let's see if we can find somewhere where we can download their database, see what happened." A rumbling growl escaped the burly Klingons throat but he acquiesced and sheathed his knife then clipped the phaser back to his belt... slowly. Looking around he saw no enemies to take out his bloodlust on and snatched the tricorder from his chest and opened the case. As Joran was talking to Tirrel K'Tarn walked to a hatch some thirty meters from their position, faint energy readings had just started up from somewhere beyond it, several hundred meters he judged. The conversation between the two ended before he had completed his readings and he heard Joran give out a general order. "Alright, Team 2, we are going to meet Lt. Tirrel where he is scouting out the ship. Be on your guard, we don't know what we might find. Move out." "H'od!" K'Tarn called out as the group gathered up prior to starting out. "I am reading an unidentified energy signature from beyond this hatch, it started up only a moment ago." (Reply: Brownlee) "The readings seem to be several hundred meters beyond it, it would not be wise to leave our flank unguarded while the group moves off after the others, perhaps you could send a small detail to investigate? I would volunteer for such a group." The Klingon waited for the officers reaction, he seemed to be studying the matter thoughtfully. Whilst having a few moments breather he checked his rifles energy and to his shock it was running at 25%, it wouldn't be long before he would have to be using his phaser. Greg walked slowly along the corridor alone, he had been seperated for a while now and the lonliness was getting to him. He came accross a largeish door and he ran his tricorder over it, the readings showed that there were no aliens inside it. Pocketing the tricorder he reached out and pried the doors open and he walked into what looked like a control room of sorts. There was row upon row of computers and a big screen which dominated the oposite side of the room. Greg let out a whistle of awe. ~ Now this looks interesting ~ He approached one of the consoles and to his surprise it was working. Quickly looking around he had a closer look. This one was covered in alien script. Scanning the script revieled that this was somthing to do with the lighting. As he reached out there was a snarling behind him, quickly he snatched up his weapon and spun around to find the area deserted. ~Strange... I could swear I heard growling. ~ Greg looked back to the console and hit a few buttons. There was a flicker and then another and finially the lights came on. ~Now to have a look around. ~ Greg moved silently around the room taking in the details and sights of the room. ~ If I were a scientist I would be having a field day. ~ Then there is was again... a deep growling noise. Then it dawned on Greg and he slowly looked up and there was somthing massive covering the ceiling. "OH S@&T!" Greg took cover behind one of the consoles and took aim at the creature. Then somthing strange happened... some unseen speakers started blaring out a high pitched noise. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Greg dropped his weapon and his hands went to his ears and he crumpled on the floor. "HAVE MERCY! PLEASE STOP! AAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Greg felt like he was being mutilated. Whilst he was being distracted the alien grabbed him around the waist with a clawed hand and lifted him off the floor. Then the noise stopped and Greg was left slightly dazed but he knew that the alien had hold of him. "W..what a.are you?" He stammered at the creature. The creature only stared at him through a curious eye and Greg could tell it was somewhat pleased. "I am Ensign Greg Dunn from the USS Paladin.... we come in peace." The creature continued to stare at him. Greg looked down and saw that the room was now half filled with the creatures a couple of which were looking at the weapon he had dropped. Then suddenly it went off and the rounds slammed into the belly of the beast that had hold of him. It let out an unearthly scream and dropped Greg into the swarm that had gathered under him. Fortunatly they were all too distracted by the angry monster to notice him escape. (Reply None) (posted by Greg Dunn) (Alien Vessel - New Room - FO Lt. Cmdr Capps - 12:11) Nearly everyone had been able to enter the new room that Calvin and his team entered. The ones that did not eventually step their feet through the door way Calvin had to assume they were dead and probably being eaten by the alien creatures. Calvin couldn't believe what he had gotten his team in to, but tried to remember that this entire ordeal was not his fault, and it wasn't any one else's fault either. He looked around the dark room with the flare that he held in his hand. He knew that the weapons were indeed functional at this time but still the lights were out in their EVA suits and the flash lights were not working as well. There was work to be done before team 1 could go back out there. Hopefully, Calvin thought, that the room they were in would keep them safe long enough to do what they needed to do. The First Officer turned to his team and it was hard to tell who was who with out the lights inside of their helmets. Most of the younger Ensigns had blank stares on their faces, but the other more experienced officers were ready for anything and just needed their orders. Calvin had to give them their orders, hopefully he would choose the right ones. Calvin looked around the room, he noticed that he had the his Marines that was left behind at the other door, he saw some of the security officers that was in the same room with Ensign Dunn, but he did not see Ensign Dunn. Had their Assistant Cheif of Security be captured..was he dead. Calvin now had to take care of the rest of the team better than the other officers tht had already be killed. "Are tricorders working properly now Mr. Matrix?" (reply STEVE) "We still don't have lights, and.." Calvin paused not 100 percent sure exactly how to tell his team. He knew had to though so he forced the words out of his mouth. "Team, we lost our communication with team 2 and the Paladin. It seems we are stuck here until we can find our way back to the hanger bay or contact the Paladin." Calvin looked around once again, to see if every one was paying attention and he tried to sense what everyone else was feeling. However it failed. Since Calvin was unable to see the expressions on the officers face then the First Officer could not get any reading on anyone. "We will not be able to stay here long. First, Lt. Matrix get your team to start working on our EVA suits. Try to get the lights working." Calvin then turned to the rest of the Marines and security detail. "Set up a perimeter in this room. Ensign Darrel you are now in command of security. Post two men at the door incase the alien try to come in." (Reply STEVE) Lt. Cmdr Capps then took off his combadge off his jacket. He used to be an operations officer and spent a great deal of time with communication devices. "I will try to see if I can get communication going again, but it will be difficult with out power on this ship." ~We at least power that we don't know of.~ Calvin was sure that the aliens had to have some kind of power, but what kind was it,and where is its origin. Only more searching of the vessel would figure that out, but 'all the cards were not in his hand.' (reply STEVE) (posted by Calvin Capps) (Alien Vessel - New Room - CEO Lt. The metal in this ship is interfering with the accuracy of the tricorder. I'm going to try a narrower scan." "We will not be able to stay here long. First, Lt. Wether their signal had become dampened from within the ship or jammed in some way was unclear. What was clear however, was that communications had to be re-established. The lives of the away teams might depend on it. Transporter locks were of course not an option as it had already been established that this was an impossibility anyway. Their options were minimal at best & it was beginning to look like it might have been a bad move to go over there in the first place. Lt T`Vhor had been busy scanning & rescanning all bands & frequencies in an attempt to re-establish contact although to no avail. It was clear that under the present circumstances, sending another away team was a definate no, but what other options did they have. (Reply CO) (Posted by Alan Reading) (Alien Vessel - New Room - CEO Lt. JG Steven Matrix - 12:15) Matrix looked around the room, looking between the tricorder readings and the immediate area. Matrix found something to sit down on while he checked his readings and his EVA suit. The EVA suits checked out in every respect, but some of the crew were experiencing problems nonetheless. The suits were Star Fleet's latest SEWG or what was known as the standard extravehicular work garment. It was reinforced with additional radiation and pressure layers for extended operations. The nominal work cycle was rated at 16 hours, but that varied with the crew member and exertion rates. Most everyone's suit was showing at least 12 hours of operations left. The suit was well designed for hazardous exploration, but that didn't include attacks by another life form. Matrix spoke up, "Well the suits check out fine, biohazard containment looks fine for all of us, everyone's suit seems to be sealed and working fine." Matrix wasn't happy he didn't have the answers. "I'll refine the scans more, but these tricorders don't have the functional range as the bioscanners aboard the Paladin." While Matrix was adjusting his tricorder in an attempt to focus the scanning beams, the overhead lights in the room snapped on for a brief three seconds, then they were off again. Matrix felt that his scan triggered something so he stopped adjusting. "Well I think I'm closer to getting the lights on, let me try making a few more adjustments with the tricorder...my scan seemed to trigger something." He looked down at his oxygen level on his EVA suit and it had been offline ever since the lights went out. Lt. Cmdr Capps and his team has been breathing the alien vessels air for nearly an hour. "This vessel has breathable air, Ensign. I had put Ensign Darrel in command of security, I am now putting you back in command of security. Star working on that plan, but first." Calvin paused. Since you have been attacked by the alien and an alien body is inside of your body. There could be grave consequences with the decision. If you wish to be the test, then you may proceed. However, every one else keep your suits on, that is an order." "Sir I don't want to alarm you but.... I think I am mutating, its got to be something to do with the air." ~Mutating~ That was one of the things that Calvin was worried about. "This is exactly why I have chosen to keep my suit on, and order every one else to as well. However since you were already exposed out of your suit it was inevitable to stop it. I do not believe it is an air borne mutation." Calvin looked over at Ensign Keating. "Please look at Ensign Dunn." Calvin then turned to highest ranking science officer. "Lt. Louis I need a full analysis as if we are safe from mutation from our suits." Ensign Keating stepped over to Ensign Dunn with her medical tricorder. She opened it and started to move the small silver cylinder over the Ensign's body. The blinking red light fluttered faster than ever. Ensign Keating then turned back to Lt. Cmdr Capps and tilted his head inside of the helmet he was still having to wear. "It is true. His DNA is changing. Into what? I don't know. He was also correct in the time. I would give it about 2 hours, 3 hours at max. Then he will be one of them." Calvin knew that was not good news. The Alien being already knew that team 1 was here, and possibly team 2. The first officer then thought how team 2 was doing. "Very well, we can no longer search the ship, we need to get Ensign Dunn back to the Paladin. We will need to get him into a secure detamination bay. Hopefully there our CMO can reverse the DNA transfer." Calvin turned back to Ensign Dunn. "Ensign, I am now relieving you of command of the security force. I am placing 3 lt. Wallace as an escort in case your mutation goes over board. Give him all your weapons, he will protect you now." The science officer, Lt. Louis had now finished his analysis. "Sir, although our suits are offline the airborne filter has filtered out anything armful to our bodies. However I estimate if we don't fix our oxygen tanks then soon enough we would begin to mutate as well. The mutation is not by airborne particles, I am certain Ensign Dunn's mutation is because his body was exposed and the alien being had placed the bone structure in side of his body. I believe we are safe for now." "Thank you Lt." Calvin was happy to hear some good news.
