Rhetouran Settlement- LCpl Rory McAdams - 1510) McAdams slouched at the edge of the bunker, uncharacteristically quiet. He was keeping an eye on the townsfolk in his charge, following their evacuation from the town itself. In truth, despite his demeanour, he was a tortured soul. Keats had been a titan in his life. Sure, he had ragged her at every chance, but that was just Marine banter, he had knew that she could give what she got tenfold; and he loved her for it. In short, she was about the only person that he’d ever trusted with everything. Despite her warnings, that he’d laughed at, he’d reacted hot-headedly, as she knew he always would. And he’d failed her. His failure had killed her. No-one could survive what he had seen. There would be those, of course that would say that it was a simple case of survivors guilt, but in his case it wasn’t that kind of guilt…it was the other. It was his fault. Keats was dead because of him He killed her. Unable to contain it no longer he stood up, motioning another to take his place. They did without question, of course, and he strode toward the unknown, toward his ultimate CO. Absolutely willing to accept his fate. He reached the room where Kgrikk was, and entered, nodding a greeting to those on the door. He pulled to a textbook attention, and saluted. “Colonel Sir. Permission to speak freely Sir?” (Reply Kgrikk) He reached slowly toward his sidearm, and handed it over to the Colonel. “Sir I stand before you penentant. I broke the shield. This is all my fault Sir. Keats I mean Sir. She’s dead because of me Sir. He attacked me Sir. Training Sir. Took over” He removed the helmet from his BDU kit. “I didn’t stop it, I wasn’t’ fast enough. She…She saved me dammit. HOW DARE SHE SIR!” He was fully in tears. He considered himself a tough man, one of the hardest, but at that moment, he could no longer hold it together. He would be the first to admit, and he knew Kgrikk knew it, that he wasn’t a poster boy marine, but he’d never done disservice the corps, always served it with the deepest honour. And now… Seppuku…Figuratively speaking. (Reply Kgrikk) (Melnos IV, Rhetouran Settlement, LCpl Rory McAdams 1512) "First," Kgrik replied, "I have received no report that Master Sergeant Keats is dead. Second, neither have I received a complete report on the incident leading to her injury. Third, this is hardly the time, but a full investigation into the events leading up to Master Sergeant Keats injury will be conducted according to the UCMJ, as soon as we are out of this crisis situation. For now, you will find a PADD and record your statement. While you are doing that, you will stand guard at the door with Gunny Mayers who will keep an eye on you to ensure you don't do anything stupid." Kgrik nodded to the Gunnery Sergeant and passed him McAdams sidearm. Kgrik then picked up a PADD and handed it to McAdams. "Remember to name any and all witness that you can remember who saw this incident," Kgrik said, "The JAG will want statements from them as well." McAdams was truly ashamed of himself. Once again he’d gone off half-cocked without getting all the information. “I’m Sorry Sir, I saw her injuries and I thought…I assumed…” He stopped, beginning to use his brain finally. “My sincere apolologies Colonel. I’ll make my report Sir. I…remember everything Sir. I suppose that I always will.” He stopped, realising that once more he was babbling nervously. (Reply Kgrik IYW) “With your permission Sir?” He pulled himself to full attention, requesting permission to withdraw. (Reply Kgrik) McAdams took a step back, and turned 90 degrees, then marched out alongside the Gunnery Sargeant who had been assigned to guard him, moments later, he began his report. (Reply Kgrik above, no other needed) (posted by Mark) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement - ACMO Lt. (jg) Tesha - 1516) Tesha stopped before touching her injured antenna. Would her gloved hand be able to tell how bad the wound was? Though the pain was worse than any she had ever experienced, part of her didn't want to know. Forcing herself to think clearly, she knew that was the wrong attitude to have. She needed to know. She had seen patients that refused medical treatment they obviously needed, due to the fear of learning the truth. She had always felt that was silly, as knowing what was wrong, would lead to a cure. Now that something terrible had happened to her, she comprehended that mindset. Tesha gently touched her antenna. It was drooping to the side. She tried to raise it upright, but it fell back against her hair. Using her medical tricorder, she scanned it. Second degree burns. Some singed hair. It could have been worse. Tesha tried to sit up, but she had to catch herself, as the settlement was spinning. With one antenna out of commission, her balance was off. Trying again, but moving more slowly, she was able to reach a sitting position. She grabbed some burn medication from her medical kit. "Do you need some help, Lieutenant Tesha?" Tesha froze at the sound of the chilling voice behind her. Slowly turning her head, she saw Simmons standing about ten feet away. He had cuts on his arms and one across his forehead, but the worst of it was his dark, squinting eyes. Without moving her head, she looked for her phaser. It was on the sidewalk at Simmons' feet. Tesha knew Simmons had the advantage, so she had to play this right. "We both need help." "I suppose so, though you seem to be worse off than me," said Simmons. Tesha wasn't sure if it was her impulsive, Andorian nature, the Andorian, militaristic mentality, or if she was simply tired of everything that had happened, but whatever it was, she forgot about playing it right and threw caution to the wind. "How are we going to do this, Mr. Simmons?" Tesha was in so much pain, she could barely stay composed. "You shot me, so I should be mad at you for that, but you did it to help me. For some unexplained reason, I feel I'm indebted to you." He stepped over the phaser and moved next to her, holding out his hand. "Let me do it." Tesha wasn't sure what was happening, but since she was the one on the ground, she decided to go along. She handed Simmons the medication and told him how to use it. "Spray it directly on my antenna." "Like this?" The relief from the pain was almost instantaneous. She closed her eyes and revelled in it. "Should I bandage it?' Tesha frowned. Touching an Andorian's antennae, was something very intimate. Though it was the medically sound thing to do, she shuddered at the idea of Simmons doing it. "No, I'm fine. Let me help you now," said Tesha. "I'm fine as well. This is exhilarating," said Simmons with a smile. "The explosion has brought me clarity." "Why was there an explosion? We're to the east of the fires. That shouldn't have happened." "We're near a warehouse where volatile chemicals are stored. The heat must have caused it," said Simmons. "Now that you have clarity, Mr. Simmons, what happens now? We can't stay here, so we need to get to the shelters my shipmates are setting up." Simmons got a faraway expression on his face. Tesha hoped he was switching back to sad and sorrowful. (reply none) (posted by Rob B.) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement – science center- command area - FO - LT CDR Tian Noble- 15.32) Tian looked up as the door to the command room open he was expecting the captain but instead he saw the security chef. "CSEC LT CDR Detron Trei Reporting in Sir. I have a civilian with me Mr. Kinsler. What shall I do with him, Sir." “Why is he with you commander?” Tian asked a bit confused at why Trei would being a civilian in to the command room. Tian honestly didn’t think Teri was absent minded, but he was complete confused. (reply Trei) (posted by Richard) (USS Hades – Sickbay – CMO Lt(sg) Aimee Bracken – 1532) Aimee pulled her hair back into the unkempt ponytail that was her normal style while on duty. She wished she could swap for any other job in existence apart from the one that she knew was hers alone to do, and the only moment that it could be done was now. “Callie, I’m leaving sickbay for a short while. Floor is yours.” She said without turning her head. Across the floor, Callie had seen the haunted look in Aimee’s eyes, and desperately wished that she could take some of that pain away, she knew what Aimee was leaving to do, and wouldn’t trade with her for anything. As she reached a door just down the corridor from main sickbay, Aimee paused, and collected her thoughts, calming herself. She then opened it, and looked over it. It was a small, comfortably fitted out room, perhaps a little sterile for its purpose, but it was a soothing environment nonetheless. “Dim the lights.” [Acknowledged.] The lights dimmed to a less harsh level. “Computer, Transport MCPO Janey Brown from the surface to this room. Chief Medical Officers authorisation. Bracken-Delta-Iota-one.” [authorisation confirmed. Transport in progress] Aimee then waited for Janey to materialise, and carefully steered her to a seated position as she orientated herself to the new surroundings. “Janey.” (Reply Janey) (Posted by Mark) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement – science center- command area - CSEC LT CDR Detron Trei - 15.35) Noble asked him why he brought a civilian to the command center. It was a legitimate question that he really didn't have a proper answer for. He just told the truth of the circumstances. "I pulled him away from the hole in the shield. When a blast came through the hole in the shield wall we were knocked down by the force of the blast but didn't get any radiation from the blast. SGT Keats however did. I took him along with me to find a shelter to place him until the storm passes over. Is there anything I can do for him?" (Reply Noble) (Posted by Edward) Melnos IV – Rhetouran Settlement – CMO Lt(sg) Aimee Bracken – 1536) Aimee caught Tylier’s face as he handed her the scalpel, and smiled gently, “Thank you.” She knew that she was certain of her own abilities, and that it sometimes came across as arrogance. Genuinely she didn’t mean it too, she was simply confident in herself. She did recall a number of occasions over the years that people had taken issue with that confidence. “Show me that last scan. I don’t like bleeds. If she hits VF and we have to shock her she could haemorrhage and bleed out on us. Nice and close up.” She spoke gently (reply Conley/Nicholae) Aimee swore as she saw the results. “Bone fragment…there. She pointed. Extrapleural Haematoma, fragment of rib. Potentially edging toward diaphragm and spleen. This has to come out first. We’ll then fix the ribs. After that, we’ll see how she is.” (Reply Conley/Nicholae) “Ready everyone. Primary incision left side of abdomen, near injury site by 8th and 9th rib. Ready with dermal regenerator, and get me some swabs.” Reply Conley/Nichole) (Posted by Mark) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement – science center- command area - First Officer LT CDR Tian Noble- 15.37) "I pulled him away from the hole in the shield. I took him along with me to find a shelter to place him until the storm passes over. Is there anything I can do for him?" Tian was now looked at the pair standing in front of him head on. “The hole” Tian said trying to remember where he was and how it wasn’t a good time to lose his temper. Lucky Tian was trained to deal with children and keeping his cool was a talent. Tian ignored the parts about the marine he was only knew she had been injured and that She was in Amir care and that was good enough for him at the moment, however, the broken emitter and the lives that were now in danger was a different story all together. “So just how did that hole come about and what happened to the emitter. I know the storm itself wouldn’t damage an emitter like the one at the northern wall?” (Reply Trei, Any) (Posted by Richard) USS Hades – Bridge- Chef Councilor Lt Addison Mccaulay – 1538) “Comms are up and steady for the most part, the interference off those storms is affecting us at a quantum level, there’s so much energy off those storms. We’re having to track the storms minute by minute and recalculate for Doppler interference…” She paused, slowing her mind down slightly, “I’m blabbing, Sorry Sir.” Addison smiled a little looking at the officer she remember when she was so excited to be on a ship. That was some time ago now. So much has happened just over the last few months she couldn’t help but wonder if she really wanted to raise her child while serving in the fleet. She listened for a while till the young officer apologized. “Its fine i did ask for a report. What about the dropship and supplies?” “On that not so good Sir, we’re having a hell of a time, dropships are going as fast as they can, but again, the proximity of those storms is creating problems. They’re sailing close to the wind as it is.” “We need to shut it down everyone needs to stay put and wait as much as I hate to even think about them being down there the danger of it is and we can’t even possibly hold the amount of people on the planet on the hades even if we could get them. Wherever the Klingon went, Roger was told to stay with him. Roger felt like he was the man's puppy. He had tried to find a way off Melnos, but for some reason, the Starfleet people were more interested in hunkering down than in getting off the planet. This whole ordeal was a huge mess. Roger saw another officer approach and ask the Klingon some questions. They talked about what happened when the shield emitter was broken. "Mr. Kinsler here had a confrontation with a marine," said the Klingon. Roger wondered how the security officer knew his name, as Roger never told any of them what it was. "The result of that was him getting knocked to the ground. While he rolled on the ground, he apparently damaged the emitter. I picked him up off the ground and moved him to a safe area. It was a good thing Roger was already sweating from the heat. The subordinate explained to the leader about the shield emitter being broken. He then gave the Klingon, his name was Trei, an order to help with some bunkers. "It appears so, that it was an accident. Where are the bunkers located?" said Trei. While the Starfleet people were talking, Roger remained quiet. The last thing he wanted, was to be in the middle of all this. His eyes turned to the window, as movement in the distance caught his eye. Someone was approaching. "You have put us all in danger. What was your name?" "Hm?" said Roger. He wasn't listening to the officer as he was concentrating on the people that were coming. It was someone in a protective suit, surrounded by a large group of smaller people. "The children! They were hobbling along, each supporting the other with an arm around a shoulder, Tesha's equillibrium out of balance, and Simmons limping on his bad ankle. The worst of it was the heat. Tesha's helmet had been damaged in the explosion, leaving her unprotected from the effects of the fires. Her face was dripping with sweat and her hair was matted to her head. The extreme temperatures were wearing her down. Tesha didn't know how Simmons was still able to move; he was soaked with sweat. "We need to stop for a minute," said Tesha. (Reply Noble.) (posted by Mark) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement - Chief Researcher Phaebin Tourna - 1607) Roughly three hours had passed since he and a handful of settlers had escaped the collapse of the council chambers. He may have been in an our of consciousness due to the sheer amount of smoke inhalation he experienced but he was now coherent and on a mission to speak to the responders of his rescue request. There was definitely a mixture of Starfleet officers and marine corps personnel now working to protect those that had gathered and been sheltered. As he walked the streets sifting through the panicked inhabitants and support teams alike he couldn't help but notice in the distance the glimmer being produced from the shielding set up by the away teams. In contrast just on the other side of it he could see the intensity of the amalgamation of storms that was now pressing in the general direction. As terrifying as that sight was he was determined to find the commanding officer of the ship that responded. Phaebin could see that instruction was coming from a general command area in the settlement and so he continued to make his way there until he could be seen. A group of seven or eight Starfleet officers stood huddled near a section of the medical area and it appeared that Phaebin was walking in on a unit briefing as it was underway. He scanned their uniforms until he could ascertain who had the most uniform pipps on their neck. Seeing that there was a captain amongst the group Phaebin directed his attention there. "Captain... Captain" (Reply Gibbs) "Might I trouble you for a few moments of your time, it is very apparent that you and your team are quit occupied." Why did the Starfleet people go away and take their storm with them, it seemed to be all their fault, everyone had been happy when she woke up this morning to go to school. She wanted to go out and play with the other children, especially now that she was 7 and they treated her like a big girl, not a baby. She looked at one of them walk toward her, he scared her more than the storm did. Standing up, she walked toward him, she didn’t come up much taller than the base of his ribcage, but as she got closer something funny happened. She was no longer afraid, she was angry. The tears that had run down her face in fear, now did so in rage. She didn’t know the word of course, but she was angry, and it was all his fault. “WHY HAVE YOU GOT US LOCKED UP? (Reply Jacobs IYW) “Ops, one to beam aboard, Commander Jacobs direct to engineering.” She continued speaking, to both Jacobs and the Ops station. “Energise!” (Reply Jacobs) (Posted by Mark) (Melnos IV - Rhetouran Settlement Bunker - Commander Henry Jacobs - 1627) Henry looked around for the engineering kit he brought with him from the drop ship as everyone was shuffled down into the bunker while listening to the Ensign confirm that the transporters were still online. "Very well. Once I get onboard we can start the process, although it will not happen immediately. Standing by for transport" Henry found he kit and walked to a clearing in the bunker away from the general crowd that was occupying the space with him. Only a matter of seconds passed before he could see the immediate space around him fill with a shimmering of blue sparkle; what wasn't in his immediate space began to blur as the transport process began. (USS Hades - Sickbay - ACMO Lt jg Tesha - 1630) Being so young, Tesha never really thought about death and what it would be like to be dead. Working in medicine had changed that, as there were times she worked with patients facing the ends of their lives. Like most races throughout the galaxy, Andorians had their own beliefs and theories about religion and the afterlife. Tesha had studied many of them, but she wasn't sure what to accept as truth. Now that she might be dead, she wished she had done more to believe in something. Though everything around her was the black of nothingness, Tesha thought she could sense someone or something nearby. There was movement and even a dullness of sound. It ended with a tingling sensation covering her entire body, followed by a burst of light, sound, and movement. Something was in Tesha's arm and someone was trying to put something over her face. Fighting to live and never giving up, she fought to push away whoever was trying to smother her. "Easy, sir," said a familiar voice. "I’m putting a mask on you. You need oxygen, and your fluids are down. You've got a line in; I’m going to and get you on a drip." Tesha stared at the source of the voice. It was Nurse Callie Weston. If that was true, it meant Tesha was back on the Hades. Was the mission over? Had the storms passed? Were the people on Melnos safe? Lying still, she allowed Callie to put the mask on. For the first time, she noticed the pain was beginning to return to her wounded antenna. "What happened?' said Tesha. "Why am I here?" (reply Weston, any) (posted by Rob B.) USS Hades - Sickbay – Sr Surgical Nurse – SCPO Callie Weston - 1631) "What happened?' said Tesha. "Why am I here?" Callie relaxed slightly as Tesha started talking. From the scan that she had initiated, she could see some kind of injury to one of Tesh’s antennae, but it was beyond her expertise to diagnose what it was. She made a mental note to speak to one of the Doctors, preferably Bracken, when they were back to being fully staffed. “You’re back on the Hades. You were beamed back here with Conley and a civilian from the Argo.” Callie performed a scan, as she spoke. “I was sort of hoping for a bit more detail from you to be honest, all we have is the comms chatter.” (Reply Tesha) She listened carefully to the young Andorian as she spoke, but something nudged her into interrupting. “I’m sorry Sir” She lifted a hypospray. “Something to take the edge off the pain?” (Reply Tesha) (Posted by Mark) Mission: Guardian Angels Day: 1 Stardate: 2419.01.01 (USS Hades - Sickbay - ACMO Lt jg Tesha - 1632) "What happened?" said Tesha. "Why am I here?" "You’re back on the Hades," said Weston. "You were beamed back here with Conley and a civilian from the Argo. I was sort of hoping for a bit more detail from you, to be honest. All we have is the comms chatter." Conley? The Argo? What had she missed? She looked at Conley to see if he was all right, but a team was working on him. The civilian was probably Simmons. "I can't tell you what's happening at the main rescue area," said Tesha, the sound of her voice muffled by the oxygen mask. "One of the marines and I went into town to rescue the children that were still inside the school. We got them out, but I stayed behind to help another civilian. I guess we took took long and were overcome. I have no memory of the Argo, who rescued us, or how we got here." She winced as her antenna pain got worse. "I’m sorry, sir," said Weston. She lifted a hypospray. "Something to take the edge off the pain?" "Please," said Tesha. She wished she could tell the medical crew more. She wished someone could tell her more. "What's the comm chatter saying? What are they doing down there?" (reply Weston, any) (posted by Rob B.) (USS Hades - Sickbay – Sr Surgical Nurse SCPO Callie Weston - 1633) "Please," said Tesha. "What's the comm chatter saying? What are they doing down there?" “Truth be told not much Lieutenant. We heard that the storms had hit, but a small team was stuck outside. I’m going to scan you again as we speak is that okay Sir?” she spoke delicately, “I notice you have a bandage, I’m not going to touch it Sir, but I do need a scan. Is that okay?” (Reply Tesha) “Three of you were beamed here. The other two to the medbay planetside. We barely had details of who we were receiving, and it was busy here anyway. I’m glad you found the children. Pain easing? I’m afraid I can’t give you anything for any dizziness you might have, I’m not certified for that kind of thing yet.” (USS Hades - Main Engineering - Commander Henry Jacobs - 1633.5) The shimmering experience of the transporter sequence completed and Henry materialized in main engineering as the assigned officers in the room pinged and ponged from terminal to terminal. He wasn’t sure how it take it was someone different. He honestly was sure how Aimee was handling this. Being First Officer has had been the worse experience he had ever had. The amount of Pressure that rested on his shoulder was incredible. He looked at the two before turning to Amiee. “We need to get to sickbay if we have any chance in saving them. What we’ve managed here is only a bandage.” Tian was trying to keep his voice low as he didn’t want to freak out the chef or Zzt. (Reply Bracken) “To be safe I think we should have them transport you and Mil. Then after the captain and myself. Aimee thought briefly, “I know, at the moment it’s all we can do, the second we’re back on the Hades, our chances increase considerably.” “To be safe I think we should have them transport you and Mil. Then after the captain and myself. That way we are not putting too much pressure on the transport buffers at once.” Aimee nodded, but saw issues in the plan. “I don’t disagree, but that leaves a skeletal medical team here at best, and no overall Command figure at all save Kgrikk. On top of that, we could be transporting into chaos up there, remember that the few duty medics that we have are injured themselves, and Sickbay will be stretched if they’re all still in there.” (Reply Noble) “We need to find out available capacity up there, and we can take our decisions from then. Trauma teams will be on yellow alert anyway as a result, so any issues we can transport straight up as and when. See if you can hail Callie, she should be holding fort up there.” (Reply Noble) She nodded, and sighed, looking toward Janey. “Now, for the hardest bit.” (Reply Noble IYW none needed.) Aimee walked over slowly toward Janey, who was still encased in Zzt’s powerful arms. She’d known her for how long now, but was suddenly terrified, pushing it to the back of her mind, she stepped over, and sat with them. “Janey.” (Reply Janey.) “He’s stable, for the moment, but I’d be lying to you if I said I had good news. On top of that with all the things going on he had forgotten he was a command officer first and a medical officer second. “We need to find out available capacity up there, and we can take our decisions from then. Trauma teams will be on yellow alert anyway as a result, so any issues we can transport straight up as and when. So we don’t alarm the two watching us so closely.” She nodded, and sighed, looking toward Janey. “Now, for the hardest bit.” “Lieutanent” Tian said before she was had left knowing what was about to happen. This compassion she had made her such a great doctor. Missing a chance like this would haunt anyone if something bad happened. She hoped that he understood that she wasn’t telling him how to do his job, she hoped that he understood that she was just very slightly bossy when she was on edge and she had things in her control. “Sir?” “If she wants allow her to see him” Noble said to her. Aimee smiled, and nodded, She didn’t need to hear it from him, but it was always good to hear things from other people that were already running through her mind. (reply Bracken, any) (posted by Richard) (Melnos IV, Rhetouran Settlement – FO Tian Noble and CMO Lt(sg) Aimee Bracken – 1655) Aimee’s head whipped round as the tone changed on one of the monitors that had been set up. She ran over, her trained eye taking in all the detail in a glance. At the back of her mind, she had known, perhaps even both of them had known that this was a possibility. Hell, Noble had even told her, but she had resisted the transfer to the Hades. There was no time for this now though. “Tian.” She called, “Crashing, he’s in VF.” Tian moved from his spot taking the other side of the table from Aimee. “Starting CPR” He said as he began to compressions. Looking at the reading Tian shook his head. “We need to shock him.” Tian said Aimee turned away, and grabbed the medikit behind her, wishing that Callie was stood at her side. She threw it open and grabbed the small paddles out of the bag and placed them in position. “Charging at 300” she called out. “Clear!” “Clear” Tian replied stepping back. The paddles shot the charge across the chest, Aimee looked at the scan, desperate to see a normal pulse. She looked up and shook her head. “Still in VF. Prepare a shot of vasopressin. Shocking again.” The paddles beeped a single flat tone and they were charging, and then stopped “Clear!” “Clear” Tian replied again stepping back this time pressing his combadge. “Noble to Hades stand by to transport four directly to sickbay on my mark” =/\= understood Commander=/\= The hades responded. Looking at Aimee Tian was slightly shaking “We are out of time we have to go now.” “Concur. Get us all out of here. Emergency to Bay one.” Aimee replied, “pulse not yet stable, we need the crash team.” Tian looked at the man “You best not die on me you stubborn jackass. ENERGIZE.” Tian said. Aimee was still leant over as the familiar blue haze appeared, ignoring the normal nausea that she felt, she next saw Sickbay’s comforting surroundings. “CRASH TEAM BAY 1” She shouted across the busier than normal room as soon as she materialised. “Patient in bay 2 I want constant obs. Callie he’s had vasopressin, give me 1mg epinephrine. Stat. Charging at 350!” Tian was more then a bit annoyed at this moment he felt like he was clar on the don’t die part. They had shocked him twice now and he was still in VF. Taking his fist pounding the man chest as hard as he could. Tian watched in disbelief as the heart rate returned to normal. “It’s about time you listened” Tian said “BP and pulse returning to normal,” Aimee heard someone say, “Blood O2 dropping though. He’s losing breathing function.” “Give me a scan. Nothing should be affecting his breathing.” Aimee replied, She looked up at the scan. “Tian, I don’t like this...the heart is stable, epinephrine is keeping that in check, but respiratory function is dropping.” Tian pressed a few buttons bring up a full body scan. “The kidneys are shutting down we need to find out what is causing this and fix it.” Tian new that last bit was obvious. “We need to get a blood test.” Tian added he knew that there really wasn’t enough time but he wasn’t sure what else to do and if this was happening to one the odds of it happening to the other were pretty high. Aimee nodded, and motioned to one of the nurses. “Blood sweep.” Aimee rubbed her eyes, thinking, following a diagnosis list in her mind. “Respiratory arrest, failing kidney function. I don’t like it.” “Blood O2 at 80 percent.” Weston said at her side. “Ventillate and give him oxygen. Unit of salbutamol.” “We need that toxacreen now” Tian said handing her the hypo with the Ventillate.” “Yes I know. Callie toxscreen?” “Still pending Doctor.” Aimee swore, and turned to Tian. We don’t need it Tian, think. Respiratory arrest, kidney function failing. Liver’s next.” “Poison for sure all the sign are there” Tian said making eye contact with Aimee. “We can beat that easy right” Tian said so much going on he had already forgotten about the Vasopressin they had administered. “Except I gave him Vasopressin, useful for a patient who’s in VF, not so healthy for someone who has been poisoned.” Tian heart sank in his chest he felt sick. His brain rushed with things that needed to happen. “ we could replace his blood…. no we have to stop his heart to remove the blood volume we never get it started again…” Tian didn’t notice he was talking where others could hear him as he worked through their options in his head. “We need to start a general antitoxin now” Tian said turning to the nurse to his left.he watched the nurse go to get the medication. Aimee shook her head, “Belay that, blood isn’t the problem, no agglutination.” She screwed up her eyes, desperately remembering all those lectures on toxins. “Stupid Girl!” she snapped at herself. “Sir, ignore the VF, that was from shock and trauma, first symptom was respiratory arrest. It’s plasma toxicity, acts like a neurotoxin and binds to neurotransmitters instead of acetylcholine. Callie, begin neurotox sweep.” Aimee was all too aware of the bustle around her, but it may as well have been just her and Noble in the entire universe battling to save the life of a fellow Officer. Somewhat perversely, this was when Aimee felt the most alive. “Aimee it’s my job to protect him he cannot die. We have to fix this.” Tian once again felt the pressure of the first officer job. The job till this moment he felt he was finally getting the hang of. Tian looked up the second the sound changed “DAMNIT he flatlined starting compressions” Everything grew quit for Tian he was solely concentrating on the Compressions the monitor beeped at everyone of the compressions. “We’re losing him, he’s in asys. 10mg OF ATROPINE! INCREASE EPINEPHRINE! Callie, has that neurotox sweep done anything?” She looked up to see Callie shaking her head. “No effect Dr Bracken.” “DAMN IT CHRIS COME BACK” Tian yelled tears falling from his eyes. The minutes rolled by, both of them moving desperately against the tide of Gibbs’ life slipping away from them. Aimee looked up at Callie once more, “Callie stats” Callie looked toward her shaking her head. She didn’t need to speak. “Tian …it’s time. I have to call it.” “NO!.... one more time please one more.” Tian was begging and reaching at this point he knew his place and Aimee was the one in charge he had no authority to give her an order when it came to medical. “I’m Sorry Sir, but it’s time. Even if we revive him the damage done from lack of oxygen is irreparable.” Tian looked at her in disbelief his body was trembling even he could feel that. “I got it” one of the teams nurses said “you’re tired sir.” Tian looked at her allowing her to take over he watched as she did two compression then stopped looking at Aimee. She looked to the room. “Step back everyone. Time of death...1725. Rest in peace Captain.” Tears were openly running down her face.” Tian couldn’t say anything he just looked at Amiee. (Reply none) (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Hades, Sickbay, ACMO Lt jg Tesha, 1659) Tesha felt out of place. She was supposed to be helping patients, not being a patient herself. She hadn't been exposed to the extreme heat on Melnos for very long, so she had recovered quickly. The problem was her injured antenna. It had been treated and it would heal, but it would take some time for her body to fully compensate. She already had her balance, but to perform surgery, she wasn't at her 100% best. It was for that reason she wouldn't be operating on Captain Gibb or Commander Mil. Instead, she had taken charge of preparing the surgical bays. When everything was ready, she moved to the observation room to watch. Tesha thought about the last thirty minutes. No one had said anything about her injured antenna, but Tesha could see how everyone was looking at her. It was a shame to an Andorian for such things to happen. It reflected on the person's ability to protect themselves. She felt her cheeks growing warm from embarrassment. When the injured finally beamed up from the planet, it was an explosion of activity. The uninitiated would see it as chaos. The captain seemed to be in worse condition, so Tesha focused on him. As the time passed, things didn't look good. The atmosphere was tense. Tesha couldn't believe what was happening. They were losing the captain, nothing was working. "Step back, everyone," said Aimee. "Time of death...1725. Rest in peace, Captain." Tesha's stomach felt like someone had punched her. Slumping against the wall, her healthy antenna drooped along with her injured one. Captain Gibb had led the team that rescued her from dying, and he had lost his life for doing it. Her feelings were in such a turmoil, she thought she was going to vomit. It’s a stretch, but we can cope.” She watched as Noble turned an left sickbay, before she herself walked out of surgical bay 1, headed toward her office, and changed into her customary scrubs, for what would undoubtedly be up there amongst busy, stressful, and upsetting days. (Reply none needed) (posted by Mark) (USS Hades – Sickbay – Sr Surgical Nurse Callie Weston – 1729) The silence that had swept across the room was deafening. Callie was no empath, but she could sense the shock that had swept across the room. Some of the nurses, and patients held their hands over their mouths as Aimee’s words silenced the room, and shattered everyone’s lives. Callie pushed all the sadness back, she’d worry about that later. For the moment… “Back to your stations. Carry on. Thank you everyone.” Callie spoke up breaking the spell. She knew that it wasn’t pleasant, she knew that it wasn’t kind, but she also knew that if she hadn’t spoken up when she did, people would start suffering once more. There would be time for grief later. The others in the crash team had moved on, monitoring Commander Nicholae all the closer, and running scans to check for the same toxins that had befallen Gibbs. Callie herself turned to the Captain’s body, beginning to prepare him for a more dignified rest. “Cal, I’ll do that. You’re needed…well, everywhere to be honest.” A young nurse spoke to her wiping a tear away and swallowing her sorrow. Callie was ashamed to say that she couldn’t remember her name at the moment, she’d only been on board a couple of days, but she was a quiet, gentle girl, who barely said boo to a goose, but impressed Callie with her work ethic and devotion to the job. “Thank you.” She rubbed the girls shoulder as she walked past. She caught sight of Aimee across the room, she was hiding everything behind her work face, but Callie had known her for a long time, and could see straight through that. Firstly though, she needed more qualified medical help on the floor. Turning around her she saw the new Andorian Doctor, Tesha, she walked over to her and spoke gently. “Tesh. You okay?” (Reply Tesha) “I know.” She nodded simply. “It’s going to be difficult.” She paused. “Look, I’m not going to lie, I desperately need help, there aren’t enough qualified boots on the ground at the moment. We have to honor them as hero.” Tian now turned to the View screen “Captain I am Lieutenant Commander Noble First officer of the Hades.” (reply Briggs, Bracken, any on bridge) (posted by Richard) (USS Hades, Sickbay, ACMO Lt jg Tesha, 1731) "Tesh. Of course she wasn't okay, but she was a doctor, and an Andorian, so being strong in adversity, was the only option. "I'll be fine." Tesha's voice was subdued. "I know. It’s going to be difficult," said Callie. "Look, I’m not going to lie. I desperately need help. There aren’t enough qualified boots on the ground at the moment. Conley still needs attention. Nothing serious; thermal burns, inflamed trachea. It’s under control, but I need a doctor to treat." Yes. Yes, of course," said Tesha. "I'll be there in a minute." "Thank you, sir," said Callie. "Anything you need, just yell. I’m not far away. I need to keep an eye on everything. I’m not far." Tesha nodded. When Callie left, Tesha took a moment to compose herself. She didn't know how much of what happened on Melnos the others knew, but just seeing how Commander Noble was, Tesha wondered if she would be blamed for the captain's death. She sighed. There would be time for that later. She herself had been doing similar, but had felt at somewhat less useful since they had landed as they no longer needed to constantly correct the probes programming to allow for the storm. The storm itself continued to blight them with its presence, and looking at the scans provided by atmospheric physics, would continue to do so for a while. There was a detail though that came to her attention, which itself had led to a possibility so help get the civilians out; she wasn’t sure though if they had the power to do it. “Sir, I have a suggestion?” she called out to Noble. Henry power walked with a padd in his hand checking last calculations before the warp core was back online. He had another engineer in tow spouting command procedures and swapping out padds once Henry was through with the one in his hand. The two walked over to a lift, boarded, and travelled down one level to the main floor. Right in front of them the core's blue stripes began to fluctuate vertically. A quick doze in her quarters, which, which she surprised herself by submitting to, followed by a light dinner and then she allowed herself a few moments calm, and utter silence. Not one to meditate per se, there were times that she saw its benefits, and even began to allow her rigid persona to relax very slightly, to let the real Aimee out so to speak. So, it was for that reason that she found her mind, normally carefully, rigidly, tethered, to wander unfettered. She saw two futures, one where she continued to relax, and had the evening off, and in the other, she went back on shift and…” “Ah Frak. Its going to be the second one isn’t it.” Sighing she stood up, an ignoring her nakedness in her own quarters took a sip of the fruit juice that she almost never ordered. “Computer get me a uniform.” [comply] The new, fitted uniform appeared on the replicator dispenser. She strode across her room, into the small en suite, and straight into the shower, allowing herself those precious few extra minutes. She then stepped out, and began to pull her hair into the habitual pony tail, before stopping, thinking and braiding her hair into an intricate French plait, pulling on her uniform and striding out of her quarters. (Starbase 35 – Medical Unit – CMO Lt(sg) Aimee Bracken - 2115) At her height, Aimee’s full stride was a considerable length, but the station was large, and she found herself falling out of the forced gait into an easier, though perhaps more purposeful one. “Lieutenant S.G. Dr Aimee Bracken MD.” She snapped at the security on the door, who opened it at the mere sight of the tall, amazon-like figure bearing down on them. Aimee took a couple of turns and entered one of the surgical ante-rooms. Seeing her patient across the room, she felt her heart sink, but moved over slowly. As she reached the bed, she saw Keats’ prone form, she looked so peaceful, one could forgive the illusion of deep sleep. Aimee lifted her hand up and gently brushed a few strands of glorious auburn hair out of Keat’s eyes. “Okay my darling, let’s see what’s happened to you.” “Bracken.” A harsh, female voice snapped from the doorway. “Thought I’d catch you here.” Aimee sighed, and help up a finger, silencing the newcomer. “Computer. Complete, full scan, Medical Authorisation Bracken – Kappa – iota – two. [Acknowledged.] The computer replied in answer. “C’Lel. We’ve hated each other since day one of med school, the only thing I don’t get is why.” Aimee spoke quietly to the newcomer. “Bracken, You’re a bloody arrogant fool.” Aimee sighed, and reacted to the bleep of the computer. “Display scan, AMHoDS” The holoscan appeared in front of her, and she reached out with her hands, manipulating the image in 3d space. C’Lel spoke. “Now that is a nasty injury. Fix where you can . 70 % mobility tops. Honourably discharge, pick of desk jobs.” Aimee smiled, looking at the image, still moving it in all directions. “shattered T4 through T7. Total partial rebuild thoracic vertebrae. She turned to C’Lel, “100% mobility, pick of postings in the entire fleet.” She snapped. C’Lels face blanched. “you can’t possibly…” Aimee’s full, Bracken temper utterly shattered. “BETTER AN ARROGANT FOOL THAN AN INCOMPETANT ONE!” She screamed nose to nose to the other officer, Aimee having the easier time since she was way taller than the other girl. “Why C’Lel?” Why all this?” Her temper had had it, losing Gibbs at her own hands had been a death stroke for planet sanity.” “WHY? WHY?” C’Lel screamed. “Because of this – because of all this. You wander, late, I may add, into a room, looking amazing, offer the most stupidly insightful, outrageously stupidly dangerous procedure and everyone around you holds you up as Queen Lady Muck, and ignores everyone who actually does what they’re supposed to.” C’Lel’s temper had quenched itself. “WELL YOU’LL UNDERSTAND IF I DON’T. YOU’LL UNDERSTAND IF I LIKE MY PATIENTS TO LIVE NOT JUST SURVIVE. YOU’LL FORGIVE ME FOR ACTUALLY WANTING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE RATHER THAN PANDERING TO MY OWN DAMNED EGO!!!” Aimee was ashamed to see C’Lel shell-shocked at her fury. She opened her mouth a few times to form an apology, but none would come. It had been the culmination of years of abuse by the other girl, not that that made it correct, just better. “Ensign.
