Their attempts to revive the patient so far had been unsuccessful, so something 'outside the box' was required for a solution. As Alyss moved over to her equipment, she released the settings that had held the lifesigns in low but stable form. "The captain's life sign's are falling. His heart rate is nearly non-existent. Breathing is shallow. No matter what, I believe we're going to see the result of Doctor Sh'areh's research right now." It was Doctor Kildare who was the first to comment, but Alyss Sh'areh had been expecting just this type of reaction. She only hoped that these Federation doctors could keep their cool enough to see the process through professionally. As the readings began to flat-line, she glanced over at Jon Nayati, the Counsellor. "We need to make this is controlled as possible." Alyss kept her voice calm, but she knew things were happening too quickly. If she wanted controlled, she shouldn't have paused her procedure. If the patient died, she already had her scapegoat in mind. Angeni stood by, laying out various hyposprays and tools on an equipment table next to her. She wheeled it up close, pulling out her advanced airway kit. She checked all of her Laryngoscope blades, pulling out her favorite Mac blade, checking the light. She lubed up the tube, keeping everything as sterile as possible. She wanted to have an escape route if anything went wrong. She didn't want to be fumbling around with bags, zippers, or hypos when it came down to crunch time. "Okay. He is still heavily sedated." She gestured to the monitor that showed the levels of the Succinylcholine, Versed, and Etomidate. "I'm going to give some Narcan in titrated doses so that, he's still under sedation, but once he starts waking up, he won't try to jump up and run the ship." She gave those around her a half hearted smile. "I have a standing dose of eight grams of Solu-Medrol to decrease any brain or spinal cord swelling that could occur, and we'll have to administer the next eight grams in two gram doses over the next fifteen minutes," She bent down, giving an injection of 1 milligram of Narcan. Almost immediately, the levels of the sedation drugs started to wean back. She titrated down until there was just enough in his system to keep him under until they were done. She put her hand on his wrist, shuddering at the feel of his cool skin under her fingertips. She looked down, pulling her thumb away, and she sighed inwardly. His skin didn't even blanch. It hurt her soul to see him the way he was. She gently slid his eyelids away from his eyes, flashing a pen light in his eyes. She watched the lazy pupil contractions, and she grit her teeth. She pushed every single emotion down to her feet, trying to be as calm as possible. "If we're going to do something, we better do it quick..." Alyssa watched as the Federation doctors went to work. She was impressed by their passion, and their desire to save one man. She wondered what kind of a man could have earned such devotion. Hopefully she would find out soon. She looked at the monitors and watched as Devan Sash’s life signs diminished. However, his neural activity managed to maintain its strength. Amazing, even on the threshold of physical death, his mind continued to fight on. Then she saw what she was looking for. There was a lessening of the activity in the hypothalamus, that was connected to his mental reserves. His brain was finally beginning to shut down. It was now or never, and Sash was going to need a lifeline. Sh’areh turned to Nayati, “Now Mr. Nayati, if you truly wish to save your captain’s life, you need to reach into his mind and anchor him to this world, otherwise, the damage that may occur could take years to recover from, if ever.” (posted by Dave Cherrington, Al Muir, and Kari Dickerson) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – Dr. Alyss Sh’areh – 0957) Alyss watched as the counsellor set to work on guiding the patient back to consciousness. She recognised that it was a great task, to temp a soul from the eternal bliss of the after-life, but if the reports were anything to go by, this patient had a lot of things to live for. Whether he would remember that or not would be entirely up to the counsellor and his skills. Suddenly the readings began to fluctuate wildly on her display. ~Wh..what’s going on?~ she thought to herself with a squint at her hand-held device. ~This shouldn’t be happening~ She had never seen these type of readings before, and was a little unprepared for how to deal with them. Of course, she did not let it show, and immediately went to work making adjustments where she felt it might make a difference. “You’re doing well,” she said calmly to the counsellor, unsure if he would be able to hear her, uncertain of whether he statement was true or not. All she knew was that the bio-readings were rising and astonishing rates. Just then, the patient sat bolt upright and made Alyss jump. “Oh my god, he’s alive” called out Wendy Kildare. At once, Alyss began to scan the body for signs of sentience, hoping this was not simply a strange reaction by the Angossian psyche. She saw Angeni Trommashere go to work similarly. She had said earlier that she was going to try and keep him sedated, in an effort to stop such sudden reactions as this. “How’s it going?” she asked, wondering if the Federation equipment was having any different affect to her own. (reply: Trommashere) A few moments later, Alyss noticed her equipment finally settle down and get a real reading on the patient. His bio-readings had already begun to settle in the safe area, and were close to normal levels already. She grinned and inside she was so pleased at the result. “His life-signs are returning to normal status. It actually worked.” She tried not to so sound as surprised as she did, but when she realised she returned her expression to the professional one she had managed to maintain for the majority of the procedure. "We need to make this as controlled as possible." Jon's attention was momentarily distracted as he felt the Romulan doctor's attention on him, though she only glanced his way. Her aura sparked with resentment. Though it wasn't telepathy Jon got the distinct subjective feeling that Dr Sh'areh was measuring him for a cairn. Jon wasn't worried at all. He began to watch what the other doctors were doing, but kept a close eye on the Romulan. Dr. Trommashere began to work with Captain's Sash's meds using hyprosprays and various tubing. She then checked his pupil reactions and said, "If we're going to do something, we better do it quick." Dr. Sh'areh spoke to Jon after studying the readings. "Now Mr. Nayati, if you truly wish to save your captain's life, you need to reach into his mind and anchor him to this world, otherwise, the damage that may occur could take years to recover from, if ever." ~No pressure here, you pointy eared witch.~ Jon nodded in strong affirmation. "Great Spirit, guide my mind to Devon Sash and give him strength. Help me bring him back." Jon exhaled a quick cleansing breath. He entered Captain Sash's failing mind with a predetermined but no less desperate telepathic message. ::Captain Sash, this is Jon Nayati. Don't surrender to death. Come back to life and wakefulness instead.:: (Reply Devon Sash) ::Your crew and your ship are in dire need of your command experience and tactical knowledge. The Hades has sustained some serious structural damage, there is an unknown saboteur on board, the main ambassador has b and we're now surrounded by six warbirds above Romulus. We've been in negotiations with the Romulans, but it is not going well. Your ship needs you. You need to come back with me now. Please come now, Sir. Please start; I will help you up as best I can Sir, but come back to us now.:: (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 0959) Angeni stood by Sash's left side, arranging her hypos' accordingly. Suddenly the man sat bolt upright on the biobed. She saw people jump and move backwards, and all Angeni could do was pick up a hypo and blast him with a bit of Valium. She slid her fingers up his bare back, feeling the muscle contractures and quivers. "Son of a...." "How's it going?" she heard from Alyss. Angeni had to stop herself from making a comment about the peanut gallery. "His body is trying to metabolize everying in an effort to wake up. I'm trying to make the transition as smooth as possible." She blasted him with another slight dose of Valium, just enough to bring the contractures down. Her fingers weaved a delicate dance with the hypos and other tools. Pieces of medical equipment were either set into their proper recepticles or just tossed aside in a fervent gesture to get to the next item. She felt his arm twitching under her hold, and she applied a bit more pressure; she sure as heck didn't want to get knocked out by an errant left cross by the man she was trying to save. Finally, all the medical tools and equipment were off of him, and she was giving alternating doses of Narcan and Valium until the only thing left in his system was enough pain killers to take the edge off the raging headache and body aches from the contractures. She gently lifted his eye lids, flashing the pen light in his eyes. The quick contstriction of his pupils startled her, and she repeated the test several times. Finally she stepped away from Sash, giving Wendy a long, lingering look before turning to Alyss. "Guess what you did worked...Thank you Dr. Sh'areh" She pulled out Sash's padd from her pocket, jotting down detailed notes. She drifted backwards, leaving Alyss, Wendy, and Jon in the forefront while she documented in the shadows. She had her head down, breathing deep sighs of relief. She was trying to pull away the emotional aspect of what was going on. She wanted to be the upstanding Doctor again. She knew herself that she had invested a lot of emotions in this particular case, and it was everything she could to return to her sterile demeanour that nothing affected her, no matter how emotionally charged everything was. Slipping the padd back in her pocket, she crossed her arms, waiting for Devans' next move. Well; He doubted that it was the same bird as last time, but it was the same type. The birds eyes moved up and down, and it's head moved side to side. It then called out in a low screech that sounded like a cricket, and several small bugs came flying around it. The bird then opened it's mouth and the bugs appeared to fly in, then Kenny realised that the bird was sucking in the air, and the bugs with it. It was very spectacular. Though; He wondered why the bugs appeared when the bird called. The bird flew away. Kenny shrugged; He had entered enough data on the PADD about the bird, so he continued to look around. He nearly jumped when he saw a lizard-like animal next to him on the ground, although is made no aggressive move. It looked a little bit like a snake with legs. It's legs where at the front of it's body. Kenny guessed that it's tail made up for the un-even balance. It slowly walked around Kenny's legs. This made Kenny a little nervous, but he made no move. Though he knew fine well that since he was unarmed, he would have to call for help if the creature attacked. He could always kick it, though. After walking around several times, Kenny wondered what it was doing. It seems like it knew what it was doing. Kenny slowly lower his tri-corder close to the lizard. It seemed un-interested in the thing, and continued to walk around Kenny. He wondered if it was releasing some kind of chemical, the kind that some creatures do to mark territory. But nothing came up. Next the creature stopped, and looked up at Kenny, then slowly walked away into the bushes. Kenny was puzzled by this. The lizard did not seem to have accomplished anything. Never the less; he entered what happed into the tri-corder. Kenny heard the sound of grass and gravel being disturbed. He turned to see Harry Doorman, one of the Science Officers "Need any help Ensign McKenzie?" "Well; Not really, Ensign. But I could use some company. I just had a funny encounter with a lizard. Maybe you could share some light to it's behavour." Kenny said and smiled. (Reply Ensign Harry Doorman.) Kenny showed Harry the 3d picture of the lizard on his tri-corder. "Have you encountered this creature before? It kinda danced around me before leaving. I thought it was marking me as territory, as some animals do, but I could not detect any chemicals on me." (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (Romulus, Survey Site One, SciO- Ens. Harry Doorman- 1059) "Well; Not really, Ensign. But I could use some company. I just had a funny encounter with a lizard. Maybe you could share some light to it's behavior." Kenny said and smiled. "That certainly seems like odd behavior. maybe he was tasting you? I know that terrestrial lizards taste the air with their tongues. It is entirely possible that the lizard in question had never tasted the scent of a human before." Harry offered. "If that isn't the case I don't know what to tell you." He added with a shrug. McKenzie nodded then held up his tricorder. there displayed on the screen was a three-dimensional image of a reptile-ophidian mix. Harry couldn't help but wonder if it was some sort of Amphibian that had a highly adapted body form to ease swimming locomotion. "Have you encountered this creature before? It kinda danced around me before leaving. I thought it was marking me as territory, as some animals do, but I could not detect any chemicals on me." Harry shook his head slowly from side-to-side as he thought about all the various animals he'd seen over the course of his career. he couldn't recall anything even remotely similar to this one. He turned to a couple of the other science officers that were nearby. "Pardon me, could either of you help us see about catching this lizard?" he said to them, holding out the tricorder so that they could see the image clearly. It was just here, and I'd like to get some high density scans for the biologist on the Hades." (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (Romulus, Survey Site One, SciO- Ens. Viskhard- 1100) "Pardon me, could either of you help us see about catching this lizard? It was just here, and I'd like to get some high density scans for the biologist on the Hades." Ensign Viskhard looked up from his own tricorder and examined the 'corder image, frowning, he didn't recall seeing anything like that. "I haven't seen anything like that yet Ensign Doorman. I'll certainly keep my eyes out for one." Visk grinned a bit wider, and put a little teasing into his next comment, "Perhaps that lizard only makes itself known to potential mates?" (reply iyw, Doorman, McKenzie, any) He chuckled and went back to his own tricorder, saving what he had so far and switching to a scan mode directed to bio signs. Looking at Kenneth Viskhard asked, "Could you upload the scan you have of that lizard? I'll set my 'corder to alert me when it catches one and to notify you too if we can link up?" (Reply McKenzie) He held out his tricorder for the other Science Officer and waited while the information was shared. "I'll see if I can't flush out this little fellow. Which way did he go?" (reply McKenzie) Visk nodded, "Shall I go around a bit further and come back towards you?" (reply McKenzie) The eager Denobulan walked around away from McKenzie and started scanning around for signs of the legged snake-lizard. Looking at the image of the lizard displayed on a portion of his screen Viskhard was pleased by the rather esthetically enjoyable look of the creature. ~That would make an interesting pet, perhaps I can petition the Captain on a cultural/scientific note when we return to the ship."~ (posted by Lori) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Tal’Shiar Secure Facility, Temporary Cells – Senator Terrh – 1109) The moment the Betazoid took a step away from him, Terrh visible relaxed and breathed a quick sigh of relief. The security officer had managed to quickly arm himself with a disruptor pistol and held it toward Terrh. “Is this what you want, Ambassador? You want the balance of power restored so that we can discuss things like civilized people?” The red-headed Ambassador gave a solemn nod and said, “It is what we are Baylon, what makes our Federation so unique in this galaxy.” She turned to eye the Senator, daring him to defy her trust. ~She’s very clever~ he thought to himself, appreciating her power with the spoken word. ~Clearly a talented diplomat. I see now why the Federation sent this one~. He gave an appreciative nod. He had no intention of turning the tables on them now, not now they were expecting that very thing. “Very well. I may not like it, but I'll do as I'm told.” Baylon replied to her, the held the disruptor out toward Terrh. “For both our sakes Senator, I hope we can resolve this peacefully. You'll have no more trouble from me.” Slowly, Terrh reached forward to take the disruptor from Baylon Trinin. As soon as his hands touched the barrel, he snatched it away from the security officer before there was a chance for him to change his mind. He held it properly, his finger lying softly on the trigger and keeping the gun against his own waist. “A good decision Mister Trinin,” he said calmly, “and a wise one too” he added, looking over at the Ambassador. It would be so easy to just shoot both of them now. He could easily say they had tried to escape...which was essentially true; the unconscious guards were proof of that. However, Terrh was all too aware that things were rarely as black and white as that. There were far more players in this game of chess than he had first thought, Baylon Trinin had reminded him of that. He would need a way to cover his own back if...when Vaebn would betray him and take Terrh’s power for himself. Terrh moved away from Trinin and Frazier slowly, then turned toward the door at the end of the corridor. A second later, it opened and in marched a number of centurions, half of them with weapons drawn, the other half with repair kits and med-stretchers. As they approached Terrh held up his hand to the guards. “There will be no need for those. Our ambassador has given me her word that she and her people will not resist.” “But Senator, sub-commander tol...” started one of the Centurions, protesting at the Senator’s comments. Terrh looked infuriated and silenced the centurion by roaring, “FOOL! Do not question me and follow my orders. Is that understood?” Terrh approached the now cowering Centurion, who had immediately stepped back into line and bowed his head. “I thought so,” he said in a much calmer tone. “Now, take the Ambassador and her people to the group holding area on the upper level. I am sure they will find it a little more comfortable there.” “Yes Senator,” said one of the Centurions, before moving down the small corridor toward where the two Federation people stood waiting. Terrh gave one final glance back down the corridor, then turned on his heal and marched out of the area. As soon as he was out of earshot, he snapped his fingers and an Uhlan appeared at his side in an instant. He had much to do, and now had very little time in which to do it. He did not expect that the Proconsul and his vice would be unavoidably details for long. He had to move fast. “Summon an emergency meeting of the Continuing Committee and the Senate Eldars.” “Yes Senator,” replied the Uhlan, before running off in front to carry out his orders. Terrh smiled, but behind that smile was still the worry and concern. Until he was sworn in, he would not be able to relax his pace. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (Romulus - Tal'Shair Secure Facility, Temporary Cells - CSEC, Lt. Baylon Trinin - 1110) The Senator snatched the weapon from him as if his very life depended on it. The irony of the situation is that it very well could, if he tried to use it. Baylon took a step back to give the Senator some room. There was no need to stand as close to him as Baylon had been a moment earlier. “A good decision Mister Trinin,” Terrh said calmly, “and a wise one too.” he added, looking over at the Ambassador. He allowed the Senator to pass them without incident and as the Romulan Senator reached a safe distance the door at the end of the hall burst open and a group of perturbed Romulan Centurions flooded into the corridor. They were armed and several of them were brandishing their weapons looking for any sign of resistance on the parts of the federation party. “Thank you Baylon,” she said quietly as she watched the door at the end of the corridor open and men begin to flood in. “I know you have good intentions, but for now I think we have to play this their way.” "A friend at the academy once told me that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, Madame Ambassador. I prefer a much more subtle approach, Terrh won't dare harm us now, he's much to smart for that. He'll realize that he needs to consolidate his powerbase. I am completely in agreement with the notion of playing it their way." he replied then winked at her. I am sure they will find it a little more comfortable there.” Bree shook her head and said, “Although I think we really upset his plans. He seems pretty mad now.” " No it wasn't us, it was the thought that Chairman Vaebn may be moving against him even as we were speaking that has him rattled. He just realized that he's behind the game and it's the last inning." “Yes Senator,” said one of the Centurions, before moving down the small corridor toward where Frazier and Baylon waited. The senator left and Baylon noted the distinct difference in the man's general demeanor. ~At least he's thinking.~ he thought to himself. Moments later, they were accompanied by four centurions. A fifth had moved to a control console and was in the process of deactivating the forcefields of the cells to release Paris and Raizel. The closest of the Centurions regarded Baylon Trinin for a moment. It was clear that he was suspect of the man – having probably watched his display on some kind of security device from outside the corridor. “Madame Ambassador, if you will come with us, we are to take you to a more comfortable holding area.” The Centurion stood still, as his colleagues moved to surround the small group from all sides. Baylon regarded the Centurion speaking. He seemed a bit worried. "Relax Centurion, I've given my work that I would be no more trouble to the senator. I'll keep it. Just remember 1 meter minimum" The Centurion looked at him for a moment. "1- meter minimum?" he inquired. Baylon nodded. "Proper prisoner control, when a weapon is drawn is a minimum of one-meter. Inside of that the prisoner can shift himself fast enough to prevent you from being able to fire a single shot. Both your comrades broke the 1-meter minimum rule." Baylon explained. If the weapon is holstered you need to be closer so that you can lay your hands on the prisoner quickly. Actually it's best even to place a hand, preferably the palm, against the center of the prisoner's back between the shoulder blades. That way any sudden moves are immediately detected as the prisoner shifts his weight in preparation for an attack." The Centurion nodded. Once the two envoys were motive, Frazier looked that Centurion in charge of their detail. "Very well, lead on.” he ordered. They hadn't taken but a few steps behind the guard when Bree Frazier suddenly took Baylon's hand. It was such an unexpected thing that Baylon almost jerked his hand away out of reflex. ::I would feel much more comfortable if we could return to the surface:: he heard in the back of his mind. It was Frazier making contact through the touching of their hands. ::I'm working on it.:: He replied, ::I may have to improvise, so if things get physical again, don't stop me this time. I assure you I don't want to make any Romulan widows today if I can help it.:: (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Tal’Shiar Secure Facility, Temporary Cells –Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 1112) Bree was relieved when Baylon finally decided to stand down and release his hold on the Senator. ~Phew~ she thought to herself, trying not to think of the international incident they had just avoided – as if things weren’t bad enough! “Is this what you want, Ambassador? You want the balance of power restored so that we can discuss things like civilized people?” Baylon looked over at her, but still held the Romulan at the end of a disruptor barrel. Bree gave Baylon a solemn nod and smiled with her eyes, “t is what we are Baylon, what makes our Federation so unique in this galaxy.” She turned to eye the Senator, daring him to defy her trust. Even after everything that had happened, she still trusted things to work out well. Some might say she was foolish in this respect. “Very well. I may not like it, but I'll do as I'm told.” Baylon replied to her, the held the disruptor out toward Terrh. “For both our sakes Senator, I hope we can resolve this peacefully. You'll have no more trouble from me.” As Terrh took the weapon from Baylon, he held it close. “A good decision Mister Trinin,” he said calmly, “and a wise one too” he added, looking over at Bree. Then, he promptly began to move away. “Thank you Baylon,” she said quietly as she watched the door at the end of the corridor open and men begin to flood in. “I know you have good intentions, but for now I think we have to play this their way.” (reply: Trinin) “FOOL! Do not question me and follow my orders. Is that understood?” Bree heard Terrh bark at his officer. Bree shook her head and said, “Although I think we really upset his plans. He seems pretty mad now.” (reply: Trinin) Moments later, they were accompanied by four centurions. A fifth had moved to a control console and was in the process of deactivating the forcefields of the cells to release Paris and Raizel. It was clear that he was suspect of the man – having probably watched his display on some kind of security device from outside the corridor. “Madame Ambassador, if you will come with us, we are to take you to a more comfortable holding area.” The Centurion stood still, as his colleagues moved to surround the small group from all sides. Bree looked over to see the condition of her two Envoys. Both appeared to be relatively unscathed, apart from the odd bruise and scrape. “Very well, lead on.” As she moved to follow the guard, she held Baylon’s hand for a moment. She had heard Trinin tell Terrh about how he was a strong telepath, and that by touch he may be able to use that telepathy despite the dampeners that were still being used in this area. ::I would feel much more comfortable if we could return to the surface:: she thought strongly, hoping that the hand-hold would help Baylon to hear her. She was certain that if there was a way, Baylon Trinin would keep an eye out for it. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1113) As Jonas asked for an update on the people on the surface, he was keen to find out exactly what had caused the harsh reaction from the Romulans. He had been given a friendly warning from Commander Rhian, to be prepared for the rough times ahead, but surely it wasn’t because of something his people had done – he wouldn’t believe it, he couldn’t! “There was a class 5-e explosion at the science institute,” started Lieutenant Maraht, “and then Lt. Carrow's biosigns from her implant went offline. According to Subcommander N'lar, he did confirm that we lost one of our crew but said he was unsure as to which one. I am surmising that it was Ardena Carrow.” The death of Lieutenant Carrow was not fresh news to him. Thanks to a brief from Jason Miller on his way to the bridge, he had already learnt that unfortunate news. Clearly something sinister was going on here, and the sooner they discovered what, the sooner they could return their mission back to the right track. Maraht continued to update Jonas, informing him about the other science teams. Apparently their location was geologically unstable with a high amount of interference in the atmosphere, making communication with them a big problem. ~Another problem to add to the list~ he thought, keeping his expression calm. “...Since they are allowing three security and three medical officers down to the planet I have dispatched them with Lt. Taurus Daban in charge. I gave him orders to do what he could with his team to investigate and confirm the death, ascertain the safety of the science teams and find out the status of the Ambassador's group that was with the Praetor.” ~The Praetor...~ thought Jonas, recalling something that the Romulan Commander had said. He had told Jonas that he was to be arrested for an attempted assassination of the Praetor. Clearly something had gone on their too, and once again they were footing the blame. “The Ambassador groups' implants have also gone offline but we can still pick them up on sensors as beneath the surface of the planet, but little else as to their actual condition. At this point the Romulans say all our people are safe, but I have yet to speak to any of them. They were unwilling to allow me to speak to Ambassador Frazier or any of her group, citing security reasons and that they were with the Praetor who was not to be disturbed. That is all we know Sir,” concluded Maraht. “Ensign T’Sol, coordinate with Lieutenant Tarus on the surface. If what Rhian said is true, him and his team are at risk of arrest. Make sure we keep that transporter lock on them at all times, and get them back here the second they have what they need from the surface.” Jonas settled down into the seat and command interface came alive in seconds. (reply: T’Sol) “Lieutenant Maraht, do we have a fix on the position of the science teams?” ~If we can’t contact them from here, maybe we can go and get them~ he thought to himself. (reply: Maraht) Listening to the responses from the Horta Lieutenant, they still had a small fleet of warbirds to worry about. Luckily for them, they still had speed and manoeuvrability on their side, but how long would that advantage give them? He had no doubt that any action they might take would cause the Romulan’s to act hostilely, and the friendly heads-up offered by Rhian would be wasted in a moment. He was suddenly faced with a number of huge challenges, and each one of them could end in a full-blown galactic war, or at the very least the destruction of the USS Hades. Shaking off the worries, he knew it did no good to fret about it. He just needed to act. With a tap of his comm. badge, “Bridge to astrometrics lab.” A nervous voice answered, =^= Astrometrics here Commander =^= “I want you to get to work with engineering to enhance the sensors and get me as much information about the location of the Ambassador as possible.” Jonas looked over to Ensign T’Sol, “Feed any and all data to Ensign T’Sol.” =^= Aye sir, we are working on it, although Harry Doorman designed these algorithms. We could really use him right now =^= Jonas looked back over to Lieutenant Maraht. “Well, we’re working on that. Do what you can in his absence. Bridge out.” As the comm. channel closed, already a number of things began to formulate in his mind. “Ensign T’Sol, it is my understanding that Lieutenant has been working on an extraction plan for the Ambassador’s team.” (reply: T’Sol) “Well, circumstances might just be dire enough. We should be prepared, just in case there is no other way.” Jonas realised how it sounded like madness, to beam down to the homeworld of an enemy, enter what was possibly their political stronghold, and extract their people. He just didn’t like the idea of leaving people behind. He never did! “I’m sure the marines will come in handy wherever you will require them.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – SO Ensign T'Sol– 1115) T'Sol had been multitasking; watching her security feeds, while collecting the localized data from the site of the detonation and shifting it to the departments that would need it most. Lemar seemed to be contemplating something, but until he addressed her directly, his thoughts were of no consequence to the completion of T'Sol's duties. “Ensign T’Sol, coordinate with Lieutenant Tarus on the surface. If what Rhian said is true, him and his team are at risk of arrest. Make sure we keep that transporter lock on them at all times, and get them back here the second they have what they need from the surface.” "Understood commander," she replied while sorting the latest weather pattern feeds. She shifted the feed to automatically record and then set it to start sorting through the background radiation in an attempt to identify the type of explosives used. While she was doing this she opened a channel to Lieutenant Tarus on the ground. "T'Sol to Tarus." (reply Tarus) "There is a possibility that your security and the medical team could be at risk of incarceration. As soon as you have the data you require, you are to return to the ship. We are closely monitoring the situation from here." She advised. "It is suggested that you minimize your time on the planet as much as possible." (reply Tarus) "I will be maintaining an open communications channel with you at all times. I will be using that data feed to assist in my monitoring." (reply Tarus) T'Sol told the computer to convert the data that it received from the open commchannel into text and then she quickly set up a key word alert program that would notify her if any suspicious words concerning the safety of the federation crew, ship or delegation were uttered within the effective translation range of the commbadge. As she conducted this bit of operational streamlining, She noted the conversation between Lemar and Maraht, and then between Lemar and the astrometrics Lab. She activated a second console screen to handle the raw data that Astrometrics would be sending her, so that she could continue to multitask as efficiently as her Vulcan discipline and mental acumen would allow. She nodded at the first officer when the data started to arrive at her console. She began comparing the original algorithms that Doorman had developed with the displays on the screen. “Ensign T’Sol, it is my understanding that Lieutenant has been working on an extraction plan for the Ambassador’s team.” Lemar stated as a passive inquiry. "That is correct commander. Lieutenant Tarus has three distinct recovery scenarios fully developed and three that are outlined but are incomplete to allow them to be 'flexible'." She replied. “Well, circumstances might just be dire enough. We should be prepared, just in case there is no other way.” he added. "I understand commander. However it is my duty to inform you that there is a ninety-nine point nine-nine percent chance of failure utilizing the level of information we have. That is an optimistic estimate, taking into account the human factor known as 'dumb luck.' However, I will begin the preparations as requested." “I’m sure the marines will come in handy wherever you will require them.” Jonas offered in response. T'Sol raised an eyebrow in reply. Already her mind was working out the odds. "Allow me to amend my previous calculation commander. I now estimate the chance of failure to be only a ninety-nine point nine-three percent chance of failure, due to the tenacious nature of Starfleet Marines to achieve the objectives of their mission while under duress." Without waiting for a reply, she sent the appropriate notifications and set the teams into motion. Within a few minutes the primary teams and a Marine special operations team would be ready to spring into action. Maraht - 1115) "Lieutenant Maraht, do we have a fix on the position of the science teams?" asked Commander Lemar. "Not clear enough to insure a stable transporter lock, Sir," answered Maraht unhappily. "We can detect the general area they are in but their signals are washing in and out with all the interference from the geological instability. It is possible that we might be able to beam them out but if that interference were to kick in during a transport we might get back only a part of a team member." Maraht felt a shudder ripple through his finer phalangi. "I had hoped to avoid that, Sir." (Reply Jonas Lemar) "Sir, would you like to have me go down there to help resolve things? I can get into places that others might have difficulty with my particular abilities, and I can be very persuasive<" suggested Maraht. "I can coordinate with Lt. Taurus Daban, Sir. That might make things move along since he has only two other security crew with him and he has a lot to do." Horrified at both his words and what she knew was her own beet red face, she glared at him, ignoring any chuckles of the rest of the group. "We have only just met today Mr. Stephens. I hardly think anyone could bestow that particular appellation upon us," she said sharply. "I think you might begin keeping your opinions to yourself from now on." (Reply Apollo Stephens IYW) Crossing the deck, Yuri's charming offer to tend bar made Calley feel more at ease. She sighed in an attempt to calm down, and reminded herself that she was on a mission. After Yuri Abelev served some sort of exotic drink to Lo'ren, she stepped up to have Yuri fix her something too. "Could I try what Lo'ren is having?" asked Calley. "It looked pretty good." (Reply Yuri Abelev) "You actually fermented this yourself?" asked Calley, disbelievingly. She was only used to synthehol and eyed the bottle Yuri was holding more dubiously. She took a cautious sip of what the grinning proud bartender handed her and the warmth moved down her throat rich with flavor from the coconut milk. "Mmmmm, I could get used to this," said Calley, flashing Yuri a brilliant smile to thank him. She liked him and found him engaging, though he did not disturb her as Ensign Mac Liam did. Picking up a clean towel from the stack set carefully on the deck out of harm's way, Calley dried herself off and put on her short robe. Moving over to Ensign Mac Liam with her drink, Calley caught up with part of the conversation. "Sounds like a good idea, Eoin," said Lo'ren. "Where was that restaurant you took us to before? I'm famished as always." Calley sat near Lo'ren, hoping to see how they sailed a vessel such as this. It looked complex with all the ropes and rigging and she doubted she could do it herself. "We are to sail to a restaurant?" she inquired. She felt confused. "There are restaurants that are sailing ships too in this program?" It looked pretty good." Yuri smiled at the Yeoman and prepared a jumja schanpps and coconut milk mixer, adding an umbrella to finish off the look. "Here you are, It is good, I have found that Lo'ren is a good judge for the taste of drinks and what goes well together. She would learn well from me my recipes." "You actually fermented this yourself?" Calley sounded a tad worried about the safety of accepting a homemade alcoholic drink. Yuri chuckled and nodded, "Ja, my femily has been making drinks for many years. My father taught me first to make vodka and vhisky, I chose to learn others myself." He poured Mixers for himself and Apollo. He looked over to Eoin and indicated his question by holding up the bottle of schnapps. "Vould you like a drink, Eoin?" (reply Eoin) "Mmmmm, I could get used to this." Yuri smiled back at Calley in thanks. "Thank you, the schnapps recipe is an idea I got from Lo'ren. If you hev a special fruit you like or flavour, let me know. I vill attempt to make you something nice sometime." Yuri secured his bottles away and moved over to join the main conversation, bringing a drink for Apollo with him. "Sounds like a good idea, Eoin, where was that restaurant you took us to before? I'm famished as always." The slight Bajoran was always eating and never seemed to gain any weight. Yuri held onto a solid piece of rigging as he casually joined in. "I too enjoyed that restaurant, vhat vas it called? Au'au Luau or something?" Calley had told him "We have only just met today Mr. Stephens. I hardly think anyone could bestow that particular appellation upon us," she said sharply. "I think you might begin keeping your opinions to yourself from now on." Apollo laughed and saluted her saying "Yes Ma'am" and bowed in her direction. "Well, it's actually on one of the Islands not far from us. On Maui, I think, but we can get the Dulcinea in quite close to shore and Eoin programmed a service to take us in the rest of the way on Hawai'ian pontoon boats. It's rather fun." (reply Calley iyw) She smiled and took a sip of her sweet jumja coconut drink. Lo'ren sat back and relaxed as she watched the stars in the velvet sky, remembering the times when she was small and her mother took her out to see if they could see the home of the Prophets in the sky. Her eyes misted over as she recalled her mother's soft voice, lulling her to sleep in the fields. ~Such a beautiful voice she has. Apollo was sad - he and his friends would be parting ways - who knew when they would be able to reassemble. His stomach growled and he realized he was really hungry. He hope they'd decide on a place to grab some food and he'd then make his goodbyes. "Hey how about something in keeping with our cruise? Maybe a Luau?" Apollo ventured/ (reply: any) They discussed the idea for a few minutes. Eoin finished his drink, and went over to the steering wheel. "Yuri and Apollo, you're on the mainsail and jib. Ladies, sit back and relax." (Reply any present) Eoin took hold of the wheel. "Aweigh anchor." He turned the wheel so the boat was pointing toward the north. Unfortunately, they'd have to tack to Maui. "Alright guys, you know the drill. Ready about." She sipped her drink and watched the boys start playing sailor. ~Eoin is quite the guy, I must admit, he'll make someone very happy one day. Yuri looked at her and raised his eyebrows, "Voud you like to do this job? I vill take your place anytime."
