He didn’t bring much back with him from Earth. He opened one of the interior closets to find several uniforms still freshly pressed. ~Ensign Matrix. He approached the door and pressed the chime. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>"Enter," Gregory called.<span style='color:windowtext'> </span>"Have a seat Ensign. Welcome to operations. I am Commander Dieter Gregory, head of operations, and this is my right hand, Chief Christina Ywan." Would you like a coffee or tea?" he asked as he stood up, leaning on his cane.<br><br>The female chief jumped up, "Sit down, Sir. Or I will have to tell the doctors." <br><br>Gregory sighed, and sat down. "Tea for me please and thank you Chief Ywan"<br><span style='color:windowtext'><br>Scott was surprised at chief Ywan’s response to the commander. “Nothing for me thank you.” Replied Matrix.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>He turned his attention back to Matrix. "So, Mr. Matrix, I read in your file you were in Engineering. What made you come to Operations?"<span style='color:windowtext'><br><br>“Well sir, it wasn’t by choice really. I had to take a leave of absence and its my understanding that engineering is overstaffed at the moment. That said, I am please to be back aboard the Illuminar and ready to contribute in operations.” <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>Gregory nodded while listening to his story. "So, you understand the role that Operations plays on a Starship?" <br><span style='color:windowtext'><br>“Of course, sir. I have held the position in other posts. I do think my engineering background would be advantageous as an operations officer.” Replied Matrix.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>"Yes, and we do interface with Engineering on a regular basis. We try to prioritize maintenance and repairs based on the operational needs of the ship. Of course our carefully planned schedule usually goes out the door with the Chief Engineer looks at it. As a member of my department, you have to stand firm when others try to weasel things out of you. For now, I'm going to have you stand beta shift with Ensign Morganthall. She's just been promoted to beta shift, and this will be a good opportunity to train you and let her spread her wings," Gregory said.
